Part 1: Rabash. Record 690. This World and the Future.

Hello, we're studying from the writings of Rabash, Article 690, “This World and the Future.” Study materials can be found online in Sviva Tova and the Arvut systems.

Reading Article: (00:43) This World and the Future.

In this world, a man builds a building and then ruins it.

In other words, anything that one does, any construction, and a construction means it is something sustainable, such as when a person does some corporeal lust, the lust is not regarded as a construction because it is only temporary. When the lust passes away, nothing is left of it, such as eating and drinking, and so forth. But when one learns or prays, this exists after the action, too.

This is called a “construction.” However, that construction is not for one’s own sake, but rather another dwells in it. In other words, he builds the building for another. Like a contractor builds houses for other people, one who engages in Torah and Mitzvot [commandments] for others, it is called Lo Lishma [not for Her sake]. It follows that it is not for himself.

But in the future, he will not build so that another will dwell. That is, when a person engages in Torah and Mitzvot Lishma [for Her sake]—meaning that now he engages in Torah and Mitzvot in order to achieve Lishma, and he will be rewarded with the quality of Lishma afterward, which is called “in the future”—there the building, meaning the Torah and Mitzvot, will not be built so that another will dwell in it. Rather, he himself will dwell in it because the engagement in Torah and Mitzvot is for his own purpose.

We should also say that when one works for the purpose of this world, meaning in order to receive, he cannot enjoy it because there is a Tzimtzum [restriction] on reception. It follows that “another will dwell in it.” That is, through the exertion he is making, it is so that, as it is written, “If he is rewarded, he takes his part and the part of his friend in the Garden of Eden.” That is, one who is rewarded with entering the Garden of Eden takes the labor that others labored in Torah and Mitzvot.

This is considered that they are raising the Torah and Mitzvot of the general public, as in “A thousand enter a room, and one comes out to the light.” But in the future, one who exerts to achieve Lishma, meaning the aim to bestow, will be rewarded with receiving the reward for the labor he had made. It follows that he himself will dwell in it.

M. Laitman: (04:38) What is your impression?

Reader: I don't understand anything.

M. Laitman: So, let's read it in the way that Rabash speaks, that even if he reads a thousand times and he doesn't understand, let him read a thousand a first time, and then he'll attain. At least you'll have a reward for the effort.

Re-Reading: (05:22) This World and the Future.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (10:32) If I understand, he makes this division here between a person studying Lishma versus a state beforehand which is still Lo Lishma. He writes, if you are in Lo Lishma, then all of the efforts you are putting into Torah and Mitzvot, it goes to others. Whereas if you are in Lishma already, then all your exertion in Torah and Mitzvot is as if you own that spiritual property. How do you arrange it so that all that you do, that it doesn't fill up the ego, that it just disappears?

M. Laitman: It doesn’t completely disappear, but we really need to check that the intention is correct.

Question (Kyiv): (11:52) It’s written that yearning disappears and remains after the act.

M. Laitman: That we influenced, affected the system of our relationships, that we were in a prayer in order to ascend, connect, turn to the Creator. All these are influences on the system.

Student: Here it says that we need the right intention. During that study in the prayer, how do we form that right intention so that the system will truly change, and it will correct something in our prayer and our study?

M. Laitman: This is what he writes, he means that thanks to his actions and prayers, he wants to ascend, then gradually this influences the system, and it brings him up.

Question (Turkiye 2): (13:49) After some time, throughout the day, I forget what I learned. I repeat the lesson, I write things down, but I'm in this constant battle to hold on to this. How do we ultimately come to this whole reality?

M. Laitman: Only to come back several times throughout the day to the same article and mark some points in it that seem important to you and then look at what you paid attention to or you noticed in such a way, from this angle or the other, how you are looking at it.

Question (Moscow 1): (15:05) It turns out that I'm making efforts in concern for the friends, the group, the World Kli, until I understand in the heart and the mind that it's all my closeness to adhesion with the Creator. Can there be such calculations?

M. Laitman: It's good, at least you feel it. It's nice to feel that you are doing everything for yourself.

Student: Meaning, with joy, I'm sitting down at the work table, and I start to be concerned and knowing that I changed my attitude to the Creator through this concern?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (KabU 10): (16:05) I wanted to ask, really, to build a prayer for the friends. I don't know the future, present or past. I just know that all I've got is now. If I ask and hold the friends in my heart for as long as possible during the day, and the World Kli, and just yearn, just put it out there that you really, really, really want to do this. Is that right?

M. Laitman: I can't tell you if it's right or wrong, because there is more depth in this. Just to say that it's right is not correct. We have to come to a state when I'll see how my correct intention, correct action enters the system of sanctity and builds it in such a way that through it I'll receive the light that reforms.

Student: Thank you. I'll just persevere and keep going, but I thank you, and I remain ever alert, and astute, and cautious, and careful with this work. Thank you very much.

Question (Woman MAK 12): (18:10) This building that we're building in the future, is this the temple of our soul? By correcting ourselves, maybe we still don't see what we're doing, but it helps us in our prayer for unity?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Student: Out of making this singular organism and this singular system?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Woman Rus 10): (18:49) Did we understand correctly in the article that when we in our unity build a vessel for the Creator and for His contentment, then we merit living in His house, but with the condition of being as one man in one heart?

M. Laitman: Yes. Yes, absolutely right.

Question (Woman MAK): (19:19) For one person to reach the goal, he needs the help of a thousand in Lo Lishma. So, each of the 613 or 620 desires of a person need to be realized towards bestowal, and then to be in adhesion and bestowal, and then there is an exit into Lishma, or these desires work together and bring to one common desire, Lishma.

M. Laitman: One general desire. You shouldn't run after 613 desires and check all of them. There is no need. One general desire.

Question (Woman Spain) (20:16) The future world is in faith above reason, and if we are in the temporary world?

M. Laitman: Yes. Yes.

Question (Woman MAK 104): (20:43) Working in our groups, we build a building for the other, not for ourselves, in Lo Lishma. What conditions do there need to be in order to reach Lishma, so that we too will be able to live in our constant building of our own?

M. Laitman: Just try to do what you do. Continue. Connect your serious friends and build in this way. Turn to the Creator, ask Him, and everything turns out well.

Question (Woman MAK 25): (21:34) Is it correct to understand this article literally that the friends depend on my efforts in the Ten?

M. Laitman: Yes, it is so.

Student: How do we relate from the right perception that when the Creator shows that someone exerts, puts in a lot of effort, and someone puts in a lot less?

M. Laitman: We can't really tell how much effort a person makes. We have to respect everyone that's in this action.

Question (Woman Moscow 6): (22:19) Who are these others who receive?

M. Laitman: Others are any people that are in the same movement. And what we didn't get for whatever reason, this goes to them.

Student: But isn't that the goal for the friends to receive the light of the Creator? Why is that Lo Lishma?

M. Laitman: It's not necessarily so. We can act in a very serious way, and depending on the outcome, the output will be very small. It depends on to what extent we are connected between us.

Question (Woman MAK 19): (23:35) How can we receive a reward in the bestowing vessels? We receive this pleasure from this minimum connection, and we feel it as a reward. Can we receive it in the giving vessels?

M. Laitman: Yes, but we want to get a reward for each action. If this is an action of bestowal, if through this we ascend and we can influence others even more and influence the Creator, this is the reward.

Student: The recognition that we are in Lo Lishma, and we feel as if we are in Lishma, that, too, needs to be felt as a type of reward?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Regarding a former question about the 613 desires. You said that we can unite in one desire, and we seemingly feel that when we are in one desire. Don't we need more than one desire?

M. Laitman: You understand that 613 desires are not 613 desires in a man, actually. We can list them as much as we want, but this is not so. We have to try with all the forces of our soul to be in a yearning for bestowal and unity.

Question (Woman Turkiye 7): (25:35) It is written through the efforts he is making that if he is rewarded, he takes his part and the part of his friend in the garden of Eden. The question is, if I receive my friend's part, what remains with my friend?

M. Laitman: In the spiritual, it can never be that we cut something off, something else can receive from one spoon for a thousand people. This is the spiritual quality. The upper light doesn't have size, volume, space, but it is all according to the desire of the receiver. That's why from the side of the Creator to give to a thousand or to one person, it is also an effort.

Question (MAK 39): (27:08) When the greatness of the goal disappears in the group, it means that I am not doing enough of the work and I am still in Lo Lishma? It feels like the greatness disappears.

M. Laitman: Yes, we have to fight against it, that the greatness disappears and everything else follows.

Question (Woman PT 5): (27:42) In the article it's written about building a building which is not for one’s self, but another will dwell in it. Also in the morning lesson, someone asked you that we’re learning so that the new souls, afterwards, will come after us. So, with which intention do we need to live for the future generations. What do we need to ask for them?

M. Laitman: We want to ask for our generation. We want to complete all the corrections and bring the upper light or revelation of the Creator to all the creations in our days.

Student: Meaning not to wait for the future generations but really to ask for these days.

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Question (Hadera 1): (28:43) When a person, let's say there's an action of giving, spiritual degrees don't change at all, they already exist. What is the result of his action that he opens up channels for the light to reach down below to us, to those that are already…

M. Laitman: Yes, yes. That’s correct. He simply allows for a greater influence of the light.

Question (Women Kavkaz 1): (29:37) We understand that the first period that it's written about here, about when people don't study Kabbalah, they don't receive and won't receive, there is no light in the receiving vessels. The last point is also theoretically correct, that a person reveals the Creator and receives a connection, attainment, but where are we in all these periods when we're just aspiring for it? M. Laitman: You don't understand. You can't depict to yourself that you are speaking, and your words reach the Creator, the upper force, and what you said with these words, that you want to do this or that way, but He receives it, and afterwards responds.

Student: Is this through prayer?

M. Laitman: Of course, through the prayer, through speech, yes.

Question (Women MAK): (32:16) What's the realization of the general desire of Lishma with regards to the Ten?

M. Laitman: You think about them, you're connected with them, and you try to grow them along with yourself and yourself with them. This is your influence on them.

Student: What's the realization of the general desire of Lishma of the Ten in relation to the Creator?

M. Laitman: That's really a question such that it's impossible to calculate, but it's there, it exists, and the Creator will answer.

Question (Women MAK): (33:21) Do I understand correctly from this article that in general I try to fill my friends, and then we develop spiritual qualities that build our Kli? When we don't expect a response, we don't expect any reaction, but we are just giving for bestowal. This is how this building is built?

M. Laitman: That's correct.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): (34:23) When we lose this feeling of greatness of what we're working for, how to bring it back? I'm constantly working to reach more greatness, and then we lose it. How to bring it back?

M. Laitman: Prayer. There's nothing more than that. Prayer. Especially when you lose something, meaning you already have a vessel, which had some light, and it came out.

So, then you can, in that same vessel, again and again want to fill it with light.

Question (Moscow 4): (35:22) This succulent article… there really was a need for this kind of article. When we feel that the pleasures of yesterday and today are not tasty, there's no taste. Please tell us, how do we add more flavor to life nowadays?

M. Laitman: The simplest method is when you enjoy life, think of the Creator. Whatever it is that you're enjoying, light, music, children, women, whatever it is, food, smells, whatever it is that you enjoy, you need to relate it to the Creator, and to thank Him that He's acting that way with you.

Student: I really feel this, because this takes away the fuss, and we're living through this with the Creator.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women KabU 13): (37:03) According to the last paragraph, it seems like I'm still aiming for reward as if an action of Lo Lishma. So, is there a true possibility to really achieve Lishma?

M. Laitman: No. No. There's just one thing for Lishma. To pray. To ask the Creator to give you the quality of Lishma.

Question (Women German): (38:10) When we are constructing this building of working not for reception, not for reward, we make an intention to... so it's a full action. It's the same with building. When we start the construction, the question is how do we receive the taste of Lishma? And secondly, when we receive this taste, how can we pass it on?

M. Laitman: Receiving flavor and Lishma comes to us from the Creator's action towards us. And how can I pass it onward? Like now, that I teach others to also be able to reach Lishma, and that way we pass it, and we recommend doing such actions, such thoughts that bring a person to Lishma.

Question (Women Moscow 6): (39:32) This says, one thousand enter a room, and one comes out to teach or to the light. A thousand people go into the room, and we feel as one. What is this action of teaching or passing on the light? What does this mean?

M. Laitman: Those that receive some light from the Creator, they desire to spread it among all the people of the world. So, it's worthwhile in that dissemination to disseminate.

Question (Women Hebrew 2): (40:26) How can a person organize his intention correctly, and how can he be sure that this intention is correct? How to arrange this and to check himself?

M. Laitman: He checks his intention, and if he's sure that it's correct, then he allows it to burst out outside of him, to bestow to others.

Student: When a person invests, he naturally has complaints towards others, and he checks others according to their ability. In what way, what can he do for others, because we're constantly measuring against ourselves, so, what do we do with our criticism?

M. Laitman: Maybe it's still early. It's still early. Afterwards, we'll measure it. There is a measurement here of myself towards another one, and out of these data points, I need to measure the Creator, which is not yet possible for us.

Question (Turkiye 2): (42:07) How can I achieve such a spiritual level, so that it's like breathing in the corporeal, in the breathing?

M. Laitman: How to reach it? You'll start to feel that in Lishma, that the Creator gives you a bit of illumination, and you'll be able to do an action of Lishma, and then you'll feel in that action, that if this is taken away from you, then you descend even to the point of death.

Question (Women MAK 19): (43:08) I have a feeling, when we're with you in the lesson, we realize the Creator's greatness more, and then there's gratitude. We're full of gratitude, especially for having the Torah that was given to the nation of Israel, and how can we express this gratitude apart from the general prayer? What else do we need to do?

M. Laitman: Nothing else. Come closer to the Creator and bring others closer to the Creator.

Question (Women Heb2): (43:58) In the state of joy, I reveal that there's always a fear, that maybe I'm in the wrong kind of joy. What do I do with this thought?

M. Laitman: No, it's not a sin to be in joy. It's the opposite. It's a great commandment to be in joy.

Question (Women Rus 10): (44:30) What will protect us from losing the greatness of the goal?

M. Laitman: Nothing will be able to guard you if you don't guard yourself.

Question (Azerbaijan): (44:51) If I understand the article correctly, that through a correct kind of inclusion in what's called a holy society, we'll receive the quality of anti-egoism. We're all, as a group, receiving an impression from the team of some of the Israeli men. I don't know how else I can feel this anti-egotistical force, but this importance that they give. M. Laitman: Work together with them. You have great knowledge and experience, and the meaning of it, so work with them.

Question (Women Moscow 8): (46:18) What's hidden in the action when any thought we ascribe to the Creator? Why should we perform such an action?

M. Laitman: To draw the light, the Creator's influence on us. That's what we're lacking. It heals us, spiritually and physically. It raises us to the next level of closeness to the Creator and helps us in the soul and in the head to correctly depict to ourselves our world.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:07) In the second paragraph it says, when lust is not regarded as construction because it's only temporary; when the lust passes away, nothing is left of it, such as eating and drinking and so forth. What is the difference between the pleasure from a passion like eating and drinking that will pass away and between that and what's eternal?

M. Laitman: The Torah is eternal, and its actions are constant; they don't disappear. If we once awaken the light of the Torah and then it acts as the reforming light and it acts, we simply don't have any possibility to stop it, to limit it, to diminish it. We can work with it, but what we want to do with it, that's what will remain.

This is why the reforming light has a lot of possibilities to work, but it's not written. It's almost not written in any place. Rather, a person out of his experience learns how to work with that light. This is a result from the Torah which truly reaches us and raises us that it remains in us and doesn't disappear. This is the greatest present that the Creator passes to the created beings.

Student: If I look at my life, I can split it into two: There is my usual life, different things are happening to me, some things better, some things worse, this is one world. There is a second part when I connect to the Torah. For example, I'm listening to a lesson with Rav or I read Rabash and Baal HaSulam and I connect with you, with the teachers, I feel that I disappear from my corporeal earthly world and I elevate, I ascend. What is the mechanism of connection with the Torah that creates something in us?

M. Laitman: This connection with the Torah forms for us an ascent, an upliftment, a renewal in the light of the Torah. The Torah is light, and that's what we want to live out.

Student: In this light there is something that brings truth. Why is this felt in this way?

M. Laitman: Because it truly exists above the matter. The light of the Torah exists above the matter which is why when bestowal, it influences us, it's felt on us as something that comes above the material, meaning that it's the truth.

Student: How did we get rewarded with this connection to the Torah? There are billions of people that are being born, living, suffering, dying, and then suddenly a person gets a connection with the Torah. How does this happen?

M. Laitman: These are very, very deep sentences that the Creator judges us in His light with all of our data points that the beginning of creation until the end of creation. I don't know how to explain it, and I myself do not know what is happening. But if we receive a certain illumination from above then we need to relate to it like to treasure, a great, big, holy, upper one that we received, and to buy it and not to sell it.

Question (English 1): (54:26) What happens to the ego when it's been corrected? Because I find it impossible for me to go back in time to even relate to some of the things that I would have done wrong in the past, and it's as though… You said the ego doesn't disappear, but yet, it doesn't seem like I'm able to even relate to the past any more, and I'm wondering what happened to our ego? Does it dissolve or does it just get corrected and it's not there anymore? What happened?

M. Laitman: Nothing happens. Don't relate that way. You need to take care of just what you have today in front of you.

Student: You talked about what action do we take to dissolve in Lishma? It's dissemination, because sometimes in the dissemination I get responses that I just don't know what to do with them, and I just know it's not me even though people think it's me and I keep saying, no it's not me, this is the Creator.

M. Laitman: The main thing is the appeal to the Creator and in order to bestow to Him more, then we need to connect with each other, everyone together, and then to turn to Him in a way that we cry out from the bottom of the heart that we want to bestow to Him.

Student: The more we pray and ask for correction in this world, for correction between us, then the Creator comes through us and performs these actions?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva 22): (57:02) It is written that this building is not for oneself, but others will live there, so a person builds a building for others. How do I do it for others? And what do I need to do?

M. Laitman: The intention that you want through that is that all of your friends will also connect and enter into that circle. That's it. I wish you all the best and I wish you health and success, a good mood and until tomorrow. Goodbye to you.
