Part 1: Rabash, Record 380. “Anyone Who Sanctifies the Seventh – 2”

Reader: (00:11) Shalom, we're reading from Shamati, number 380, “Anyone Who Sanctifies the Seventh – 2.” You can find the study materials on Siva Tova and Arvut and ask questions on the websites.

M. Laitman: Yes, Read, please.

Reading: (00:29) “Anyone Who Sanctifies the Seventh - 2”

“Anyone who sanctifies the seventh as he should … his reward is great, according to his work.” We should understand the meaning of “according to his work.” Also, what is the novelty, since in corporeality we also receive reward only according to our work, and one who works overtime receives a higher salary than one who does not work overtime. Hence, what is the novelty in saying “his reward is great,” and then saying that he will be rewarded only according to his work?

Our sages said, “He who walks and does not do, the reward for walking is in his hand.” We should understand the meaning of doing. Our sages said, “Great is the learning that yields action, and it is not the learning that is most important, but the action” (Kidushin 40b).

Baal HaSulam interpreted that “an act” is when a person turns his vessels of reception into vessels of bestowal, as our sages said, “Let all your actions be for the sake of the Creator.” The Midrash says that this doing is the meaning of “I have created the evil inclination; I have created the Torah as a spice,” that this is the doing to which one should come.

Our sages said, “Man’s inclination overcomes him every day. If the Creator did not help him, he would not overcome it.” We should understand why the Creator did not give us the power to defeat the evil inclination. But if this is not within man’s hands, why does the Creator not do everything?

In other words, why must one fight with the evil inclination while the Creator only helps him, but if the person does not begin the war, the Creator does not help him? Also, why does the Creator need man to make the war and then He will come and help him, as our sages said, “One should always vex the good inclination over the evil inclination,” and RASHI interpreted, “make war with it” (Berachot 5a)? This implies that first, one must begin the war and then the Creator helps him.

Baal HaSulam explained what Abraham asked the Creator, “How will I know that I will inherit it?” “And He said unto Abraham, ‘Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and they will be enslaved and tortured four hundred years … and afterward they will come out with great possessions.’”

Baal HaSulam explained that when he saw the promise that the Creator had given him, saying, “to give this land to you to inherit it,” he said, “How will I know?” since there is no light without a Kli [vessel], and he did not see that his sons would have a need for these attainments, but that they would be content with little.

Therefore, He said to him, “Know for certain” that they will be in exile and will want to emerge from the exile. Then, without the help, they will not be able to come out from the exile in Egypt. Therefore, by this they will have to receive His help. Also, each time, they will need more bestowals, and by this they will come to need the light of Torah, for only the Torah is the spice.

This is as was said in The Zohar, “He who comes to purify is aided.” It asks, “With what?” and it answers, “With a holy soul. When one is born, he is given Nefesh [soul] from the side of a pure beast. If he is rewarded more, he is given Ruach [spirit].” It follows that by this they will come to need the Creator’s help and will thereby have the Kelim [vessels] to receive the inheritance of the land.

By this we can interpret what we asked, what does it mean that he walks and does not do? It is one who begins to walk on the path of the Creator to achieve “action.” This is the meaning of “Anyone who sanctifies the Shevi’i [seventh],” and Baal HaSulam interpreted that Shevi’i means Shebi-Hu [He is in me].

Accordingly, it means that when one properly sanctifies the point in the heart within him, he begins to enter the exile in Egypt. At that time, he begins to see each time how far he is from the act of bestowal. Then, Kelim form within him, meaning deficiencies, which the Creator will later be able to fill.

It follows that a person must begin the war so as to have Kelim and a need for salvation and the help of the Creator, as was said, “If the Creator did not help him, he would not overcome it.” It follows that He did not give man the ability to win the war on purpose, since through the war one obtains the Kelim and need for the abundance.

Hence, we need both: to enter the war so as to obtain Kelim, and the help that is required is that specifically the Creator will help him, since through the help he obtains the inheritance of the land that the Creator promised to Abraham.

Accordingly, “according to his work” means the opposite of corporeality. In corporeality, each time we do a good job, we are paid according to the quality of the work. But here it is the complete opposite: The more one sees that he is incapable of anything in Kedusha [holiness], the more help he needs. Hence, each time he must be given more help from above, meaning greater attainment.

It follows that “his reward is great according to his work,” meaning that when he sees his flaw, he can receive a greater filling. This is the meaning of “going and not doing.” He went to war but did not do, meaning that he could not make all his actions be for the sake of the Creator. He is told, “The reward for walking is in his hand,” meaning that specifically one who walks but does not do needs the help of the Creator, and specifically by this he receives the inheritance of the fathers.

M. Laitman: (11:30) Well, I think that the article is okay, short and to the point.

Question (Women MAK): (11:56) What is the measure of everything that is possible to do from our heart without any boundary, and then the Creator will answer our effort?

M. Laitman: How to do it?

Student: What does this full measure depend on, to do everything that is possible without any boundary?

M. Laitman: Well, it's when you are in complete despair, and you have no way out. And many times, already you have asked, and each time you received a little bit, but clearly it wasn't enough, again and again, and so on. And in the end, you reach a state where you seemingly ask for the very last time because you must ask. Otherwise, you have no other option, no other chance to attain the Creator. To somehow get close to Him in some way, to force Him to answer you, and then receive a response.

Student: In my measure, do I have to be confident that I've done everything I could? Or do I have to have sorrow that I didn't do everything I could?

M. Laitman: That is needed, even this kind of sorrow.

Student: What can help us get synchronized in the Ten, to imagine the next state we want to come to, and then come to action?

M. Laitman: We simply need, maximally as much as possible, to see the present state, to depict the next future state. And in which way all of you together, in the Ten, are giving everything from yourselves in order to rise together to the Creator.

Student: What will help us in active unity to hold on to this dedication to each other and the Creator?

M. Laitman: Nothing should remain, give everything.

Student: How to grow this Hissaron to achieve a single request altogether because everyone has a different Hissaron. How do we grow this?

M. Laitman: We can't determine, we can't weigh the deficiency of each and every one, or even the common one, the integral deficiency. The only thing that we can do is to ask of the Creator to connect us in such a way that all of our vessels will become one whole vessel.

Question (Women Brazil): (15:51) How can we use our egoistic nature in order to sanctify the point in the heart?

M. Laitman: Get close to each other as much as possible, help each other. And see what else we can do in order to build between us a single, common desire, an integral desire.

Question (Asia): (16:30) He who walks and doesn't do and works and doesn't feel that he's doing. Is this one who works and doesn't feel, he does what he shouldn't do?

M. Laitman: He doesn't calculate, do I deserve it or not, there are several variations. It could be that a person does a lot and feels himself being in an ascent in his work. There are those cases where a person feels how, although he's doing he feels with that, as if he didn't do anything, not enough. Then he doesn't have this inner stimulation that he's doing something because he doesn't have what to receive for, and a few other discernments like this.

Question (Latin 12): (18:03) How do we fulfill this dynamics of the work inside and outside of the Ten to always be in equivalence of form?

M. Laitman: I didn't understand, again.

Student: How to perform the dynamic of the work?

M. Laitman: Once again.

Student: How to fulfill this dynamic of the work each time as in the Ten and outside of the Ten to be in similarity of form?

M. Laitman: Be connected, I have no other answer.

Question (Women Almaty): (18:55) If the voice of reason, should we not listen to the voice of reason when we get this Hissaron?

M. Laitman: By no means, no.

Student: What does it mean, 400 years?

M. Laitman: 400 years are the four phases of Malchut.

Question (Women Spain): (19:49) I don't understand why after many years of being in Kabbalah, I can't understand that unity is the cure for all the evil in the Ten.

M. Laitman: It's one thing to understand but to start using it in order to heal all the errors, mistakes, in order for us to have one big Kli. One whole Kli within which we demand filling.

Student: Why does it take so long, why are we so late in this?

M. Laitman: Look, this is a path that needs to take a long time. We need to be constantly in an appeal to the Creator with all sorts of requests. For Him to connect between us, bring us closer, both as friends and as friends with Him, with the Creator Himself. And more and more and more, and then, only after we finish all our requests, then probably we can see ourselves in a complete manner.

Student: Why do I have a feeling that every time we're in a worse state?

M. Laitman: Yes, it might look to us like it is getting worse but even though we're advancing, that's how the Creator helps us demand.

Question (Women MAK 113): (22:27)  A request for others, when I ask for others from my state, from my inner desire, how to cancel my inner state and ask for the friends in their state?

M. Laitman: It's a correct question, and in truth, we need to go out of ourselves and make ourselves neutral to incorporate in the friend's desire. To be impressed by the desire to turn to the Creator, as if you're asking for her. Without activating your internal desires, just simply turn to hers.

Student: It doesn't matter what kind of desire she has, just to ask for her?

M. Laitman: Correct.

Question (Women MAK 56): (23:27) The Creator didn't give the person help to overcome his evil inclination. In the article it says, the Creator gives man the strength to fight and overcome the evil inclination. Also in the article, it says that the man would always make the good inclination angry at the bad inclination.

M. Laitman: The person asking for help in order to belong to the good inclination, to the quality of bestowal and love.

Student: When I read this, it seemed to me that this talks about action in faith to the Creator. Even though, despite what he feels in the evil inclination, the faith that the Creator will help him.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Man fights with his evil inclination until he realizes his whole essence, the greatness of the Creator until he loves the Creator with his whole essence.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: When this love helps, does man annul himself forever and serve the Creator forever?

M. Laitman: Well, I wouldn't say forever, for eternity. There's no such thing but there are degrees. Degrees of wholeness here with the Creator.

Question (Women Moscow 6): (25:31) A person needs to start the war and then the Creator comes and helps. How do we start the war and help correctly to do what the Creator expects from us?

M. Laitman: We simply need to be connected together, connected as much as possible, as one man in one heart, that's the main thing, that's what's most important.

Question (Women Kavkaz 1): (26:12) It is written, he who comes to purify is aided. Can we say that the more he purifies his desire, the more elevated pleasure he gets? If fulfillment comes, then he means that he managed to purify himself.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: I feel this huge gratitude towards the Creator, but I feel some darkness from the friends. How to light this darkness and ignite love towards the Creator in them?

M. Laitman: Ask the Creator. We have to ask for everything.

Question (Women MAK 25): (27:08) At the end of the article, it says, it turns out that his reward is great according to his work so he sees his flaw and can receive a greater filling. What does it mean, this correct reward, is this the Hissaron, the flaw? The fulfillment, or the connection with the Upper One?

M. Laitman: Both, the filling of the deficiency. When the light that connected all our lack is felt, and the light itself that fills the lack.

Student: In our work, we probably shouldn't chase after this, shouldn't concentrate on this, then the reception won't be correct.

M. Laitman: Why?

Student: Because then it seems like it's just for ourselves, then we have some taste, and we have to want to repeat it, deepen it. Seems dangerous, egotistical.

M. Laitman: No, no, no.

Question (Women Moscow 5): (28:26) We just heard from you now that it's not easy to receive the light, how to learn to use this light in the Ten. We unite and the light comes to us. How do we use it onwards to not just get pleasure from it? What do we do with it?

M. Laitman: Later, we connect with Him, we connect under the light, all the friends. And then, together, in common, from our common effort, we ask the Creator for Him to bring us closer to Him.

Question (Women Turkiye 8): (29:28) How to stop caring for oneself and start caring for the spirituality of the friends? How do I feel this dependence on the friends and the need to care for them?

M. Laitman: Be included and incorporated in one another as much as possible. Integrated with one another as much as possible.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): (30:01) When I feel sorrow, I think that this can make the Creator sad. I don't want this to happen, I want to make Him happy. How what do I do with my sorrow to not bring sorrow to the Creator?

M. Laitman: How can you? Just like you're saying, you have now a possibility before you to receive a place from which you can bring the Creator something good. So, how do you run away from that? You need to come closer to Him as much as possible.

Question (Women MAK 113): (31:06) From this article I heard the following that our whole life is for and only by correcting our desires towards the good for unity then we can receive peace, we can receive the world on this land.

M. Laitman: Yes, you expressed it nicely.

Question (Turkiye 8): It says in the article that any action will be for the heavens. In order to attain such an intention to achieve this, my intention in everything has to be to love others and then with this love, I can come to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes

Question (Women English 1): (32:32) We shall do, and we shall hear. How do we hear Him more clearly? Is it the purification, degrees, or a gift?

M. Laitman: From us improving, by us improving.

Question (Turkiye 2): (33:39) How do we clothe our study in a yearning?

M. Laitman: It's something we need to try, we need to attempt in all kinds of ways, all options, discernments. Such that it will be clear to the person, and to the Creator, what it is that they want to attain.

Student: What are these exercises that we want to do?

M. Laitman: What exercises?

Reader: What exercises do we have to do? He's asking how we clothe our study in a yearning. We have to try and do from different sides, from different positions, so that it's clear to a person what the Creator wants from him. What kind of exercises can we do to clothe our study in a yearning?

M. Laitman: What exercises do I need to answer?

Reader: What exercises should a friend do to awaken this yearning for the study?

M. Laitman: You need to give an example to the friends in the Ten. That's the main thing that each of us has to give.

Reader: What will they get from this?

M. Laitman: He'll get advancement in spirituality, and he will truly be advanced, the Creator will advance him. He needs to show everyone the extent in which he thinks that we need to succeed, to connect. To prepare for questions from wanting to come closer to one another.

Question (Holland): (36:22) The Creator promised the inheritance of the land of Israel under conditions, under the condition of deficiency. What gives us this power and pleasure to constantly live in a constant condition of deficiency?

M. Laitman: That we want to pass this deficiency to all the people in the world. That will keep us so that our Kli will be open to receive help from above.

Student: That is what gives us the power to continue in a deficiency?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Question (Women ITA): (37:43) What's the role of pain and suffering that we feel in this state of despair when we are addressed to the Creator?

M. Laitman: We want to come out of that despair, that's why suffering helps us.

Student: Do we really give Him our contentment when we see what we see? When we see our evil inclination?

M. Laitman: It would be better if we go above the evil inclination and come to the good inclination, that’s how we bring Him contentment.

Question (Women MAK 26): (39:04) What does it mean to sanctify the seventh day in spirituality?

M. Laitman: To sanctify the seventh day in spirituality means to rise to a higher degree.

Question (PT 13): (39:40) Where is this, what is this promise to inherit the land? Is there anything we can use here?

M. Laitman: In the end, what the Creator brings us to is the inheritance of the land, for us to receive this big Kli and the light that corrects it. And this way we will rise to eternality, to the Heavens.

Student: Is there anything we should learn from what we are promised or is this a state that should be revealed on the way?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Kyiv): (40:31) You said that in order to turn to the Creator we have to come to full despair. How is this calculated?

M. Laitman: The complete measure of despair, I don't know what the complete despair is, or the whole despair. But it's when a person is despaired from his own forces and raises up an outcry to the Creator to help him, to hear him.

Question (KabU 10): (41:17) Regarding man's heart, there is a place where I can access it. It's a very quiet place, I have to have read something, be in a contemplating mood, and be still. It seems to be an area where I have this yearning. It seems to be that place. Does that sound like the heart? That pure, inner, private desire that we all have inside?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Question (Women PT 33): (42:36) My question is, in the second verse, our sages said, he who walks and does not do, the reward for walking is in his hand. We should understand the meaning of doing. Our sages said, great is the learning. What does it mean that he walks and does not do?

M. Laitman: Again, the question?

Student: Here it says, he walks and does not do. The reward for, what does it mean to walk and not do? The reward for walking is in his hand. What does it mean he walks and does not do?

M. Laitman: He doesn't reach the place where he can perform a mitzvah, or corrections in the Kli. Nevertheless, did some preparations or almost all of them. So, at least the reward for walking is in his hands.

Student: Our reward is the reward for unity with the Ten, or is this an active process?

M. Laitman: All that we do in the Ten, in order to advance to the correction of the Kli, the general Kli, or to the friends here and there, is a Ten. That is all called that we are on the path, we are correcting, and we should not disregard this.

Student: This is felt like an action.

M. Laitman: Yes, yes, it's an action, of course.

Student: It feels like an active action.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Hadera 1): (44:46) In the corporeal needs, the man always finds the strength to fulfill them. In the spiritual, the Creator needs to make up for the deficiency he has. Does this principle go on throughout the whole path?

M. Laitman: Yes, that principle is always valid.

Student: What are easy commandments that a person travels with his feet?

M. Laitman: This is how a person advances at this point.

Student: The explanation of, he who walks and does not do. A person should always make efforts but if the Creator doesn't help, he won't succeed because he sees that's the way it happens.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: This is the way he can turn to Him and succeed.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (English 1): (46:07) Could you say that our ask is for the friend's desire for adhesion with the Creator to be fulfilled through our correction because we view our uncorrectedness from adhesion with the Creator?

Translator: Sorry, ask again.

Student: Could you say that our prayer is for the friend's desire for adhesion with the Creator to be fulfilled through our correction because we view our uncorrectedness as being the only thing standing between the Ten and adhesion with the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes, the bottom line is that's how I correct myself. You're correct.

Question (Women MAK 97): (47:49) Does the Creator put us into the exile in Egypt so that we need him? Does he do it on purpose so that we form a maximum Hissaron?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes, yes.

Question (Turkiye 7): (48:10) The feeling of despair before reception of help from above. Should this be, should this have a place?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: If this needs to happen, it needs to be this way. All the effort that we make is that in order to reach this feeling of despair?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (PT 22): (48:45) According to this sentence, he who walks and does not do the reward for walking is in his hand. Is there a state when he does but he doesn't realize that he does it?

M. Laitman: No, that wouldn't be considered.

Student: Everything depends on the intentions?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Ukraine 2): (49:15) My friend is asking about the unity of the Tens.

M. Laitman: I don't have time for that.

Question (Women Lithuania): (49:32) When you come to the realization that There Is None Else Besides Him, and that everything is controlled by the Creator. This puts so much pressure on you that you cannot ask and there is as if nothing to ask for. How to get out of this press to feel that we have something to ask for?

M. Laitman: Connect with the friends.

Question (Women Kavkaz 1): (50:14) It says he gets this Nefesh from the side of a pure beast and if he is rewarded more he is given Ruach. Can we say that Nefesh is working his Kli and working with the Hissaron of the friends is Ruach?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Spain): (51:03) In order to give pleasure to the Creator, should the connection between in the Ten be only spiritual?

M. Laitman: Not only, spiritual, corporeal, whatever kind of connection there is.

Question (Women MAK 30): (51:31) It says, he who walks and does not do needs the help of the Creator. How do we attain this level of the need for His help?

M. Laitman: Continue doing and you'll feel the difference between this and that.

Question (MAK 33): (52:01) Should every friend in the Ten show an example in unity and dissemination so that the Ten advances together towards the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes, it's preferable.

Student: In each Ten, right?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women French): (52:28) In the Ten, we have a different understanding of the word Hissaron. Could you explain to us what's the difference between Hissaron and desires and yearning?

M. Laitman: The deficiency is desire, it's where I feel that I'm lacking something. That's called, that I have a desire for it. Close your nose and close your mouth, and after a minute or 30 seconds, you'll feel how much you are missing air, how much you're lacking air. That's what we need to come to. If I don't feel the Creator, if I don't feel the society, then it's like I'm without air.

Question (Women PT 33): (54:00) Have I heard you give advice to a friend to make ourselves neutral. To connect to the desire of a friend, to get inspired by it, and to turn to the Creator without turning on my inner desire, just ask for her. Also, I heard you added, in a different question, that we should want to pass on this Hissaron to everyone that's alive in the world and this will protect this Kli to receive help from above. My question is this: Should we come to a state where we combine these inner actions so that this is a complete address to the Creator?

M. Laitman: It could be that, yes, it could be this. Try and then tell us.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): (55:13) When a person can reveal and open up his heart to the Creator, he feels different things. He feels elevated or he feels heaviness. How to understand the feelings that he gets?

M. Laitman: What's the meaning of all these feelings? You need to know what they are.

Student: How to understand all these feelings? What is the correct explanation?

M. Laitman: Give me an example of some word that you don't understand, or a state, or action.

Student: I want to change myself, but I can't change myself. Nevertheless, when I turn to the Creator in order for him to change me, I get very happy, but nothing changes. I don't get purified, or I don't get changed, but I just get happy.

M. Laitman: Okay, we will try to help you.

Question (Women Kyiv 7): (57:18) Our unity is common, and the fight with the evil is also common?

M. Laitman: The help in the war against the evil incarnation needs to be common.

Question (Women MAK 26): (57:37) When a man goes into the exile in Egypt, can he realize that he entered there?

M. Laitman: Yes, he recognizes it. He understands it.

Question (Women MAK 56): (58:02) Is there anything we can give the other except mercy?

M. Laitman: Are you asking for something else?

Student: I was thinking today about the lights, that we receive the light, and we only receive the light, I got confused. Apart from the light of mercy, Hassidim, there is nothing we can give? We just have to fully cancel ourselves, our feelings, and our thoughts, and enter another person's heart, embrace him, and ask the Creator for him.

M. Laitman: Yes, that's a good action.

Student: Is it true that we need nothing apart from this action?

M. Laitman: Correct. You're right.

Question (Women Heb 2): (59:07) You said earlier that we have to become an integral Kli that turns together to receive fulfillment. How do I understand how what I feel in the Ten reflects the correction I have to perform?

M. Laitman: Eventually, you need to help the whole integral Kli.

Student: This is, in essence, the actions that I lack in my work. That I feel what's lacking in the Ten, in the group?

M. Laitman: You must be maybe closer to the friends. I don't even know how to answer such questions.

Reader: (01:00:18) Thank you Rav, thank you, to all of the friends. Announcements and then we'll finish up with a song.

Song: (01:00:28)
