Lesson 1: “Devotion to the Spiritual Goal.”
Reader: Welcome to the World Kabbalah Convention of Kabbalah La'am. The topic is “Growing Stronger in the Ten.” We are now beginning our first lesson whose topic is “Devotion to the Spiritual Goal.” Rav, we are at the peak of a very intensive process, very moving, and also feels very mature and ripe. Focus on the Tens, the basis, the core. Everyone's ready, and moved, and also confused to some extent from this lofty status. How to enter it correctly? Rav, please direct us to start the congress.
M. Laitman: (01:00) We need to listen carefully to all the excerpts that our friends put together from the words of Baal HaSulam and Rabash and to try to carry them out in heart and soul in the connection between us so that it will truly be the basis of our connection and in this connection, we will attain all of reality, the Creator, and ourselves under Him.
I hope that everyone feels the importance and I'm asking those who are still not sitting to take a seat and not run around in whatever direction all the time, so please. In the meantime, we're waiting for the last ones to take their seats. Okay, friends, shall we start?
Reader: So, we are beginning, we have source excerpts on the topic, “Devotion to the Spiritual Goal.” Please make sure that your phones are on silent, no rings at all. Please do that now.
Reading Excerpt 1: (03:25) Baal HaSulam. Letter 8.
It is written in the poem, You surround everything and fill everything. During the attainment, abundance is felt. It appears and sits precisely on all those contradictions. This is the meaning of more terrible than all terrors, prouder than all who are proud and naturally, he fills everything. The poet knew that he fills them abundantly, and none else perceived the pleasantness of unification with him until it seemed to him at the time of his wholeness that the afflictions they had suffered had some merit to value the savor and pleasantness of the abundance of unification with him. His every organ and tendon will say and testify that each and every person in the world would chop his hands and legs seven times a day for a single moment in their entire life of tasting such a savor.
M. Laitman: (04:58) This is how we feel when we begin to know the abundance that spreads and fills the created beings and by this, we begin to connect, as Baal HaSulam writes here, that it seems to us like the suffering we experienced has some value with respect to the pleasantness that we attain. And that all our organs that are now filled with the upper pleasantness, too, can testify to what we experienced in search of the connection between us and the connection with the Creator.
And that we are indeed ready for anything that might be required of us. Because compared to what we feel at the moment when the Creator is revealed to us and fills us with His pleasantness, then it seems to us like there is some value to it compared to the suffering we had before. But in truth, we feel only the sublime flavor, and this is what fills us and elevates us toward the Creator.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (08:05) It is written here, what does it mean to devote myself to spirituality?
M. Laitman: That I am ready to meet all the conditions that spirituality requires of me. I am willing to do, and I will do in relation to the friends, in relation to the connection between us in order to connect with the Creator, and in order to fill Him with our tendency, our leaning toward Him.
Student: Spirituality is against my nature?
M. Laitman: Correct.
Student: So, how to enter it?
M. Laitman: We need to do, to perform actions with the friends in mutual bestowal, in connection between us above all the forces of rejection, and then we will begin to attain more and more how, how much, spirituality is opposite, distant from our nature. And after the efforts that we will nevertheless do against our nature we will try to connect, and in our connection we will begin to reveal the right connection between us which will be revealed as the Creator; the upper force.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (10:27) I have a question about the connection to search for the connection and to feel the connection, and how they work together?
M. Laitman: The minute we see ourselves as being connected, searching how we should be connected, studying the connection, and reach it. And in this connection we discover the Creator. From the smallest measure according to our vessels, according to our sensitivity to it, and up to the real vessels where the Creator is revealed in His entirety within us. Through our efforts, in feelings between us.
Question (Petah Tikva Center) (12:29) Throughout the congress, from now on, what should we do to feel that the Creator surrounds us and fills us all the time, as it says here.
M. Laitman: Now, we are going into, we are entering the congress. The entry is basically in order for us to feel how connected we are, how much we want to connect more, and we are drawn to it. And in this way we will gradually come to that desire that is required of us in which we will begin to discover the correct relation, the correct connection between us. And in that connection we will already begin to discover the Creator. Our friends, ourselves, all of us together and we unite between us and that will be as a vessel.
And afterwards we’ll discover within the connection between us, the Creator, the upper force and then in this way we will discover who we are, what we are, what is our nature, and what we must do in order to attain all of this reality in its true way, its true form. This is our goal, and this is all given to us in this gathering. In the connection we have to attain right now.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (14:41) Is it possible that during the abundance one feels that all of the afflictions before happened was actually a missed opportunity? How to not miss the opportunity that we have here today?
M. Laitman: We need to scrutinize, clarify precisely with every question, every sentence we say, how much we want to connect to the right desire, these desires between us that we will connect between us to precisely the right connection, and that connection, and in that connection, that we will reveal the upper abundance, the Creator. It all depends only on our preparation and on our leaning toward connection and to the Creator, who is meant to be revealed in that connection.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (16:45) What does it truly mean in the wisdom of Kabbalah, to love the friend? Sometimes I think I love, and then the next moment, no. So what does it mean to truly love the friend?
M. Laitman: From the origin of creation, a person loves only himself and therefore, he must pay attention to what extent his relation to himself and to his friends is a similar relation and in this way, he will advance more and more toward an equal relation where both the other outside of him and he himself will seem to him, will be felt in him as one.
Student: If I continue to fall to despair, does that mean that the Creator sends me such thoughts that I feel that I'm not worthy of studying the wisdom of Kabbalah? Does it mean that I have no true, pure intention to reach the Creator, and He just filters me out? Can I do anything so that the intention will be pure and honest? Because without intention, my actions are worthless.
M. Laitman: The Creator doesn't filter anyone, doesn't push away anyone. And in general, He wants only to bring closer to Him regardless of the conditions that are revealed to a person. So, it's not even a topic of discussion. We must always remember that whatever state there is, a person is desirable in the eyes of the Creator. And in whatever situation the Creator wants to bring the person closer to Him, we must not forget about that.
Student: What kind of intention one needs to hold when one feels rejected?
M. Laitman: To ask to be drawn near.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (20:11) Is the..?
M. Laitman: It's only half a sentence. Yes, we connect ourselves together on the ground that we are standing on.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (21:00) It is written that in the moment of awareness, we see what's beyond all contradictions. How do these contradictions support us to achieve this moment?
M. Laitman: It happens this way. To the extent that a person feels that he's far from spirituality, far from connection with the friends, from connection with the Creator, along with it, he activates a deficiency for connection with the friends and through them with the Creator. And according to this, he goes through all the stages which initially appear as opposite and afterwards are revealed as actually being right for connection.
Student: And why through that we come to this abundance?
M. Laitman: Spirituality. All the spiritual attributes are only over opposites. Meaning, we have to discover how opposite we are from each other, opposite from the Creator. And only after that we begin to attain the real situation, how connected we can be between us and connected with the Creator.
Student: What is required of us as we recognize that we are opposite to the Creator?
M. Laitman: What's required of us is to know it, to recognize it, and to want to invert our relation toward the Creator.
Student: How do we strengthen this deficiency to turn the situation around?
M. Laitman: We have friends, we have the society, to the extent that we want to connect with the friends and ask the Creator to help us be connected. In this way, we come to the connection between us. And from within the connection between us, we come to the right connection with the Creator, and the connection of the Creator with the created beings.
Student: Is it correct that I really feel pain when I feel opposite to the Creator?
M. Laitman: I don't think it's so bad that it pains a person, but the more we advance, we'll discover how this oppositeness truly causes pain, suffering.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (24:50) Where do we attain the abundance exactly? In the vessel of our Ten, or personal vessels, or somewhere else?
M. Laitman: Usually we attain the abundance in the vessel of the Ten.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (25:48) According to the text, it turns out that the abundance is felt during the attainment, and appears above the opposites. How to connect and work with the opposites and differences so as to use this state in the best possible way?
M. Laitman: It will sit in us by itself in the right way. We just have to advance in the connection between us under any conditions, whatever they are.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:51) How is my complete annulment to the Ten affecting me?
M. Laitman: If you annul before the Ten, then you eventually receive all the qualities from the connection of the Ten. And by this, you become similar to the Ten to some extent. In other words, it's good. You should come to it.
Student: Yes. So, how can I work on the shattering that becomes revealed in the Ten?
M. Laitman: You need to connect more and more with the whole Ten and be incorporated in them, annul before them, as much as possible. And this is what will eventually bring you closer to the Creator.
Student: Now I turn to the Creator also because I feel pain. But what I feel is that if I nullify myself, I can't turn to the Creator with all the strength that I had when I felt pain
M. Laitman: Yes. Continue to annul before the Creator more and more and at the same time to connect with all your friends, and you will begin to feel how much it brings you closer to the truth. And then you will have a place, you will have a desire, and you will have a direction of where you need to reach. You have it in your soul.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (30:01) I listened to you, and I heard an answer. It says that he is proud about all who are proud, and fills everything. About that. So, it turns out that even a drop of pride immediately puts me into an ocean of pride. And it turns out it's impossible that…meaning, can I think of the Ten and that will take me out of the state of pride?
M. Laitman: If you are dedicated to your Ten, it will be enough for you to emerge from your egoism.
Student: What does it mean to be devoted in practice?
M. Laitman: What does it mean to be devoted to your Ten? It means that you do anything so it will connect within itself and with the Creator.
Student: The second part, that He fulfills them. What does that mean if you can explain that part of the text?
M. Laitman: No, we can't understand it. No, we still can't feel it. It's something that a person has to feel.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (32:06) According to what I learned and what I know, in order to connect to the Creator and receive the abundance, love thy friend as thyself is not enough, and working in the Tens, but I have to carry out all the Mitzvot or at least try to be awarded with the abundance. So, why do we focus mostly on love thy friend as thyself or studying in the Ten?
M. Laitman: Because this is the greatest, most important, most primary commandment, and most general; encompassing.
Student: And the rest of the Mitzvot?
M. Laitman: The rest of the commandments direct us to reaching love your friend or your neighbor as yourself.
Student: Okay, so it's better to start from love thy friend and…
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (33:15) Annulment towards the Creator happens only through the group or it can be inner spiritual work?
M. Laitman: It will be inner spiritual work, but only to the extent that you practically annul before the friends.
Student: Yes, it's always through the friends in the group then.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (34:03) From the moment I came here through the environment of the World Kli, the evil inclination became revealed in me. The Creator as if brought me back those qualities that I thought I already worked on in the Ten and I thought were in the past. I got to a feeling that it's just impossible to connect as one man with one heart. The Ten has concern, and if oxygen is missing, then it gives you an oxygen mask. You're in the Creator's hand.
But in the environment, I felt the war for the place under the sun, and you just surrender. I want to share, I don't know if it's correct, but I felt that it's possible that connection is only possible from the height of a complete Ten with another Ten, and not in an individual way. Because again, we are like in first grade or kindergarten, and we begin to again work on qualities that were already left in the past. So, that was my feeling.
M. Laitman: I will tell you only this. What you imagine is not the end of the way, it's not even its beginning. You need to take those rules that were given to us and implement them in the connection between you and the friends, and doubt as less as possible, and be as less as possible in all your imaginary thoughts and imaginary feelings, and simply move forward toward connection with the friends.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (36:53) The vessel is the resemblance of my friends to the Creator?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (37:22) We learned that in order to attain the Creator, we have to find the connection between us and reach the true connection. But today you also said something important, that before that you have to discover yourself, to better see this connection, to know how can I add something of myself to this connection. And first I felt some rejection, because it's something quite egoistic to find yourself in the framework of the Ten, and position it at the same level of importance as the connection between us.
But now I see that without it, I won't be able to give what I have to the Ten in what I can give to our society. Please say, what is the order of actions? How do we attain ourselves and then the connection with the Ten? What's the cause and effect here? What's first and after?
M. Laitman: We attain the connections between us, and from these connections we gradually attain ourselves.
Student: So, the connections remain as a first priority, then we come to the friends and we reveal ourselves?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (39:02) How to hold the intention throughout the congress that it's for the Creator? What does it mean?
M. Laitman: Keeping the intention toward the Creator means yearning for the connection with Him through the connection with the friends. Such yearning has to be constant, perpetual. It's possible between us. We see that we can maintain that connection, create such connections. In the end, I think we will begin to know the kind of system that we are in. And from here on, well, everything will go ever upward.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:19) It says in the text we read, it's very moving, but it says there at the end, they would chop off their hands and legs seven times a day for a single moment in their entire life of tasting such a savor. What does that mean?
M. Laitman: We have to come to such a state and then realize what it's about.
Student: Can we get to that state today?
M. Laitman: I don't know. I can't promise anything. I'm only explaining to you what state we are in and to what state we need to yearn to come.
Student: So, we'll get there together.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (41:14) What is a worthy goal for everything that happens in the world that's called the drop of unification?
M. Laitman: A drop of unification is a drop of the common desire between the Creator and the created being, why they connect.
Student: In Egypt, our forefathers didn't see the miracles of the Creator. The gift of the Creator is precious because of His greatness. How can we now receive the Torah as the light of correction?
M. Laitman: We need to do what is written. It's not that much. We're in a good situation, and the connections between us are ready. We only need to add our yearning to this connection, to reveal the Creator in the connection between us. And basically, that's it.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (42:45) Before us there is a vast field of love and bestowal, and I can discern various qualities. There's a segment called my Ten, there's a segment of my group, and also the greater group that we're in. So, what should we focus on and how not to scatter and lose myself but really be effective?
M. Laitman: We must all feel as one Ten, as one group. In that state to connect with the Creator, it's not that difficult. We have internal preparation for this within each of us. So, let's work together. Each one must feel himself very well in this demand to connection with the others. And in that one internal point to be in it all the time.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (44:24) What is the revealing of the prayer and the vessel that is built correctly, the prayer in a person?
M. Laitman: The person feels what he lacks in order to be completely connected with the friends and the Creator.
Student: How does the Creator answer in this vessel?
M. Laitman: Treat the Creator the way I said and you'll feel.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (45:16) Many years ago, when I got into the group, and I would come to congresses not only in Israel, but also to mirror congresses in Moscow. At first, I heard this expression from you regarding the friend's question about the connections, that when you grow, the group will change for you. So, every year I checked that situation. And indeed, the friends are different, the feelings are different, we go through all kinds of states, etc.. This time is just amazing. People come to me, I don't know you, tell me I don't know you but I want to hug you, etc.. In other words, what is happening to us right now? What is happening within us qualitative-wise?
M. Laitman: What appears is a more corrected desire, more suitable desire for using it between us. I think that lately you really went through some good states, and I think you're ready, ready for the revelation of the Creator between you. But this isn't something you should wait for, it's something you should act for.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:06) I just heard you say that we have to be in this inner point of connection all the time. Where is this point? How do we find it?
M. Laitman: In the heart, inside your heart you have to find that point of contact with the friends and with the Creator.
Student: Meaning, within me I try to feel everyone. The Creator and you as well?
M. Laitman: Yes, yes, me too.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:50) You said that the abundance is received in the Ten. The question is, from the point of view of someone that is part of the Ten, where exactly is it felt and how does it work on me?
M. Laitman: From the point of view..?
Student: How does it work on me, how is it felt in me, the abundance that is received in the vessel of the Ten?
M. Laitman: To the extent that I'm connected to it, that I awaken it, then accordingly I'm filled by it.
Student: What does it mean to awaken it?
M. Laitman: To the extent that I awaken the connection between us, and I put that at the center of the Ten. To that extent, I feel my connection with them, and that then continues.
Student: So it's the result of my investment in the friends.
M. Laitman: Yes. Yes, you understood.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (49:44) The Creator told us that any state that pushes us away from Him is intended to awaken in us another, more desire, more deficiency. When we feel negative forces, envy, anger, jealousy. Between us, we're in the friends within the Ten. How can we turn these feelings into constructive forces in the Ten? How to correct it?
Student: The question is: How to correct it, and how to turn negative feelings into something constructive. Something that is constructive within the Ten.
M. Laitman: That depends on how much we wish to rise above from the relationship between us to the connection with the Creator, and that's how it will become revealed in a more correct way. That's all.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (51:21) You answered a friend before, told her not to wait, but act. What is the action? What do you mean by to act?
M. Laitman: To act, meaning to make connections between us in such a way that is suitable for our connection with the Creator. That's all. That's what we need.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (52:12) I came here to the congress, and I see in this a sign that I came out of love, and this is indeed how I feel, connected and loving. So, what more should I do?
M. Laitman: Only to become incorporated with everyone as much as possible.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (53:15) The question is: The more our desire grows, the more we feel the separation and the distance between us. How, or when we break the barrier, when does it happen that we will feel closer to the Creator?
M. Laitman: When you ask of Him that He will connect you. Then to that extent that He does it, you will feel how close you are. And thus, it will move forward.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (54:40) The lesson is called “Devoting Ourselves to the Spiritual Goal.” The goal is huge, to be similar to the Creator. And to achieve that goal, I have a question. How important is it to scrutinize transient points that the Ten has, not to return to those points but to go forward so we can do it in a more qualitative way.
M. Laitman: If the Ten understands its goal, so it's always in motion towards greater and greater connection between everyone, all the friends in the Ten, then what else? What else do you need?
Student: Just another precision. There's a task. To love your friend as yourself. This is a global task. That's our main task. How do we scrutinize if we love or don't love, if we're heading toward it or not, if we're falling off or not? We have to do it on a day-to-day basis before our meetings.
M. Laitman: The scrutiny of the relationship between us needs to happen in every given moment. And to demand the Creator to correct us, to bring us closer, to connect us. And in such a case, we advance in the relation to Him.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (57:31) Is our vessel constantly renewed and strengthened through the commandments we do and the efforts we do?
M. Laitman: Repeat, please.
Student: Is our vessel constantly getting stronger and renewed through the commandments we do and the efforts we make?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (58:14) I would like to ask if a person succeeds in loving his friends as himself without expecting anything in return, is he not in fact taking on the quality of the Creator because the Creator loves us unconditionally?
M. Laitman: Yes, yes a hundred percent.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (58:59) In response to one of the friends concerning how to keep the intention throughout the congress for the Creator, you said we have to hold on to the connections between us. My question is: It often happens that my mind is distracted with respect to the intention after the criteria of maintaining the connection regardless of the inner and outer feelings. Is it that I am keeping the intention for the Creator, for the sake of the Creator?
M. Laitman: Well, let's assume that for now, this is fine.
Student: But then it turns out that it happens in the intellect. And the other part of the question is what will be the criteria of keeping the intention in the heart?
M. Laitman: When you want that in your heart.
Student: How do I check if I want it in my heart or don't?
M. Laitman: Ask your heart.
Student: I ask, but it's closed. It's closed for me.
M. Laitman: Yes. Incorporate in the Ten with your heart and allow the Ten to govern your heart, and then everything will fall into place.
Student: How, now, let's say, now I'm in the congress, or at a break time, I connect with my Ten. I'm the only one here from my Ten. How do I become incorporated and try to open my heart and become incorporated in them?
M. Laitman: I don't know. You should try.
Student: Can I ask of them?
M. Laitman: You should always do that.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:01:40) Our friend from Romania, he just recently finished a global course, he's like the first from the course in Romania, he wants to know how in this congress we can come to bestow in order to bestow.
M. Laitman: It's that we work against our will to receive and we wish to take control over it and bring it to bestowing in order to bestow. Yes, that's the first degree of spirituality.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:02:40) The Creator in this congress made it so that I started alone from my Ten because it's workdays. But I really want to convey to my Ten, to the women who are in the Arvut system with me right now, everything that is happening here because our congress is called Getting Stronger in the Ten for the Sake of the Collective. So my question is: How can I do this alone? Because right now I don't have any way to check myself. I don't have anyone else from the connection. How do I check if I'm in the right direction?
M. Laitman: Connect with another Ten that's closest to you.
Student: Okay, and from there I'll be able to convey to my friends?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:03:58) How do we begin to feel His greatness, truly? Sometimes there's a feeling that the intellect stops us, interferes with feeling His greatness. Our intellect is a lie. It was given to us through man. It's our knowledge. We need something that was given by the Creator.
M. Laitman: Connect to the Creator and receive from Him. I can't offer you anything else.
Student: How can I convey my deficiency to my Ten in the best way?
M. Laitman: To be connected along with them and then they'll feel beyond your words also your sensations.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:05:26) You answered a friend that we have to doubt my feelings, my perception, and just get into the Ten. Does that mean that I have to put my perception under the criticism of the society?
M. Laitman: I think it's necessary.
Student: At such moments there's a desire to run away from this intolerable state, and there's a feeling that the group doesn't help. What do I hold onto in order to not run away?
M. Laitman: To the friends.
Student: Is this process the recognition of evil?
M. Laitman: There will be a gradual recognition of evil.
Student: What do we need to do in order to turn it into a correction?
M. Laitman: To want.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:06:46) What is this law that we must receive the abundance, receive the abundance for the friends?
M. Laitman: We have to pass the upper abundance through us to our friends.
Student: And if we don't follow this law, obey this law?
M. Laitman: Then you have no connection to the correction.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:07:34) I understand that love of friends comes only after a real prayer to the Creator. But in order to come to this prayer, I myself have to work so that afterwards I'll be able to ask. So, my practical question is: I have a friend. Let's say a friend, for example. I think about love toward him. And in order to strengthen that relationship that I have for him today, I'm not allowed to strengthen it, it's impossible to strengthen it. Is it correct to act in this way? As if I have no relation to him and I have to build a love for him from scratch, from zero?
M. Laitman: It's possible, it's possible that this is the case.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:08:46) My Ten is my spiritual laboratory, and all my attainments happen in the Ten. This is what I understand. And the friends in my eyes are really good or bad. And every time a friend annoys me, I have to analyze and understand that it's an incorrect situation or incorrect feeling toward her. I have to understand that. For example, we love our children unconditionally, and to feel the same love for the friend. Meaning, I ask the Creator to change my feeling toward the friend. When the feeling changes, it's already a progress or a small ascent. There are many friends, and it happens all the time. Is this our work, to every moment change our feelings, every moment? Is this the work we have to do each day?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:10:07) I feel, I don't know, the more we learn, the more we study, and rise in degrees the ego increases. I'd like to know, are we supposed to have control over it? Are we supposed to be more aware?
M. Laitman: No, we don't have control over the ego. Awareness, that can be. Awareness can happen. Now, what to do. Just to push forward. Always go forward. Ask the Creator for progress. Ask the Creator for connection with the friends, and thus, in connection between us, we will find much better our collective ego and ask the Creator correctly to correct it.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:11:50) The question is: I feel that we're asking the Creator to bring us to connection, but it's not enough. What do we need to do to make this prayer heard, and that He will really unite us in one desire?
M. Laitman: We have to ask for it. We have to ask the Creator to connect us in a single desire. That is all.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:12:41) Through what actions do I convey the abundance to my friends?
M. Laitman: By showing them an example, how to connect to each other so that we become ready to receive upper forces from the Creator.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:13:32) In Russian, in the Russian language, that's to unite and to connect. To connect is when we put into the same pot things that are opposite, different in their qualities. They seem to be together, but they're actually only placed side by side. They're not really connected. They're only placed together. How do we really become united? So we become unified as one whole, because we have so many different qualities, properties, and different world-views. How do we overcome it and truly become unique, one?
M. Laitman: We have to understand that all the qualities, thoughts, opposite sensations we have are given to us only so that in the connection between us we'll receive such a shared state that can include in it all of the spiritual system. Therefore, we don't need to somehow stop there but rather just move forward. In no other way will it be possible to connect between us. The one who goes on the path is the one who will succeed.
Reading Excerpt 2: (01:16:10) RABASH, Article No. 12 (1985), "Jacob Dwelled in the Land Where His Father Had Lived"
With love of the Creator, we say that a person should work only for the Creator, meaning without any reward. This means that he is ready for complete devotion without any reward, without any return being born out of his devotion. Rather, this is the core—his purpose, that he wants to annul his self before the Creator, meaning (cancel) his will to receive, which is the existence of the creature. This is what he wants to annul before the Creator. It follows that this is his goal, meaning his goal is to give his soul to the Creator.
M. Laitman: Maybe again.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:18:47) We receive the feeling of the Creator in our feelings, and we can depict the Creator as an order of degrees where some are closer to the root and some are closer to us, which is our next degree. Is it important for us to define precisely before which degree we want to annul before the Creator?
M. Laitman: We don't have any special choice about that. We are in front of the next degree, and if we nullify, we nullify to that only.
Student: And if we imagine that I can annul before the highest degree, will that interfere?
M. Laitman: To you, yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:20:05) To annul before the Creator, can I annul straight to the Creator, or do I annul before the friends through the Creator?
M. Laitman: Only through the friends. Otherwise, you won't be able to reach the connection with the Creator at all, all the more so annulment. That's it.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:21:06) When we gather with our Ten, and we workshop, or we talk, or we pray, we feel great love, and it seems to us like we feel light. We build an intention toward the Creator. And the question is: How can we convey this light to the world, to people, to the world? What practical actions do we need to take? I know we have to do this, the restriction, the screen, the reflected light. How do we do or say it accurately? That we don't want to receive the light for ourselves, but we want to convey it to the general, to the world in general, to the country, to the people? How do we do it?
M. Laitman: That's only through our intention. Nothing else is needed.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:22:43) When we criticize our feelings, our desires, what questions should we be asking ourselves?
M. Laitman: For that, we have to start reading the articles of Baal HaSulam and Rabash, and there they all discuss that.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:23:31) True bestowal is when we don't expect any reward, but we see that we have to come to both seeing and hearing. How do we distinguish bestowing in order to bestow from some expectation for the upper reward? How do we deceive our intellect, because otherwise my bestowal will not be genuine?
M. Laitman: You said very correctly how to operate only with the friends, and then you'll see exactly why we were created that way in the group. When you bestow through the group, by that you receive.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:24:40) You said we don't control our ego, but there's awareness of Him, recognition of Him. How do we not become afraid of opening this Pandora box? Since I can't control what he does, but when my friends are revealing this, how not to be afraid that I will lose this connection? Understanding my own, the language of my egoism, how do I serve the Creator this way?
M. Laitman: You have to converse about everything with the Creator, and then you will receive answers from Him and according to those answers, you will gradually change yourself, and everything will normalize.
Student: So, in other words, to just hold onto the Creator and try to separate myself from my egoism?
M. Laitman: Yes, you can try to detach yourself, but it won't bring any results. Creator also does that. The main thing is to nullify yourself before the Creator. And in order to nullify yourself before the Creator, you have to nullify yourself before the friends, and then you will succeed.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:26:31) It seems like that the friends are standing in my way, so I would nullify myself in front of the Creator, but really it's myself that's standing as an obstacle in front of the Creator to influence the friends. We learned about influence yesterday, that everybody influences each other, so my question is how to cancel myself, because I nullify myself in front of the friends and the Creator, so the Creator would influence them freely without being an obstacle.
M. Laitman: You act, and then you will see the way it works.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:27:30) How at this congress can we nullify ourselves so we can build a common soul of Bnei Baruch and pass it on to the Creator?
M. Laitman: We are already in this process, and soon we will reach such states that it will become clear to us that we are interconnected as one man in one heart, and we're all in one action, and the Creator is with us. It will be so.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:28:11) My question is: Does the correction happen only when we are completely annulled?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:28:45) We are representatives from Ukraine. We bless this special congress and are passing this on from all of our Ukrainian friends, a very warm hello. And we have a question. The question from a friend is that I am confident that this question worries all the friends. We want to, as it's written in the excerpt, we want to connect into one common soul and pass it on, give it to the Creator.
M. Laitman: We are very happy that you came to us and we hope to see you each time. I am very happy.
Student: And I have another question from a friend of mine. How to feel in my heart the entire Ten? How to understand, how to pass this feeling that I brought the entire Ten to the congress?
M. Laitman: It is inside of you for sure, we can feel it. Come to us always.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:31:15) Each friend in my Ten has a very strong spiritual desire to reveal the Creator through our connection. So, how to gather each individual desire of my friends into one strong desire to bring contentment to the Creator?
M. Laitman: Ask the Creator for this. He will reveal for you such an embrace that you all will enter, and that's it. Good luck.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:32:03) I'm very worried that I feel that the Creator gave me a chance to meet my soul in the face of everyone that's present here. And I'm afraid that I'm very worried, terrified, and very excited. And sometimes I think that in this prayer there is some reward. Can you tell us something about this?
M. Laitman: What can I tell you? I love you.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:33:06) What is this true sacrifice, self-sacrifice for the Creator, that is the goal.
M. Laitman: True self-sacrifice is when we truly want to squeeze out all the ego from us. All the intentions for our own sake, even the slightest ones, and to stay only in the direction towards the friends and through them to the Creator. That's what we want. When we will reach this state, we will truly see that in front of us spiritual gates burst open.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:34:52) What does it mean that we give away our soul, as it's written in the excerpt, that when egoism is becoming greater and greater and it simply does not give us, it's battling with us and all these efforts that we make. How can we succeed in this?
M. Laitman: It's possible only if we all together will want, will ask, and the Creator will be with us together. Then we'll be able to overcome our innate egoism, primal egoism, and easily, easily we'll pass all the degrees. This is it, that's it.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:36:30) Does devotion of the soul, what does it mean? What does the Creator want from me? What does the Creator want me to give him?
M. Laitman: What you have, that you want to give him all.
Student: But what do I leave? What's left for me to be His partner?
M. Laitman: You have something that can be left?
Student: I want to be active, I want to do something to be a partner of the Creator. So what should I do? Yes, you must, you ask yourself what you want to do to become active part of the Creator. To be a good friend to the friends?
M. Laitman: Are you sure about this? Let's leave it for now.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:37:45) Devotion, I suspect, is a very high spiritual quality. Do we, as a Ten, all have to achieve devotion in order to break into spirituality?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Does it matter if a few of us achieve it or do all Ten members have to? All ten?
M. Laitman: Everyone, everyone.
Student: If a few of us have this desire to achieve this, what is the prayer that we have to give to the Creator? Because we were born broken. I have noticed the difference between the children of Israel and the children that were born outside Israel, the nation of the world. We cannot even form communities or groups like you do in Israel. So, what is that prayer to get to this point? Because it's very painful. You do have lots of communities here. We cannot even form groups in our countries. How can we reach devotion as a Ten to break into spirituality? What is the prayer?
M. Laitman: We really hope that from this unity that we are creating here in this organization, that at the end, eventually, it will spread across the world. And also among the children and grown-ups, adults will learn how to unite to support each other and we all will make the Creator to inhabit us, to dwell among us and connect us. And we will be with Him.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:42:12) The desire to receive is a natural part of our nature and it's felt, and it's very hard to nullify it. If it's so, then how can I direct myself to the right prayer for the Creator? What else can we do in addition to this, so we can truly nullify this egoism, this ego that is within us, that's so rooted deeply in us?
M. Laitman: We don't need anything more. Only our ego that pushes away all the friends, repels all the friends, and we need to unite, and then the Creator, He will dwell among us, and we will feel how much we are as one man in one heart, we exist in one Creator, in one Ten, and all of us, we're all in the spiritual perfect unity.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:44:25) From the excerpt, can I serve only the Creator knowing that the evil inclination has been given to me only for this and not for self-reception or pleasure?
M. Laitman: Certainly, absolutely.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:45:31) Yesterday we had this prayer with the Ukrainian sisters, and also a lot of love between us. I saw this feeling, will this help us give up our soul to the Creator, this feeling? We don't know how to do this, but it happens naturally. Does this help with time?
M. Laitman: Everything helps. You're walking down the right path, and you feel the right feelings, so everything will organize itself.
Student: Okay, so just give it away, right?
M. Laitman: Let us ask our musicians to play something.
Song: (01:46:27)
Reading Excerpt 3: (01:51:12) Baal HaSulam, "The Writings of the Last Generation"
There is nothing more natural than coming into contact with one’s Maker, for He has made nature. In fact, every creature has contact with his Maker, as it is written, “The whole earth is full of His glory,” except we do not know or feel it.
Actually, one who is awarded contact with Him attains only the awareness. It is as though one has a treasure in his pocket, and he does not know it. Along comes another and lets him know what is in his pocket. Now he really has become rich.
Reading again: (01:52:15)
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:53:36) What does it mean to reach the contact with the Creator?
M. Laitman: It means to feel that there is only one force in the world that unites everyone and it exists above everyone, and when a person wants to attain it, he attains the entire world.
Student: And from the whole world, how can we bring it to the Ten and work in the way so we reveal to each other the treasure that exists between us?
M. Laitman: We need to be aimed to one another and together we turn to the Creator; and we'll reveal this connection between us and with the Creator, and we will find answers for all the questions.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:55:02) So this influence is the Kli, the vessel of bestowal. It's not simply annulment before the friend. It's also a calculation as to how much I can influence a friend for the sake of bestowal?
M. Laitman: No, I didn't hear anything.
Student: I am scrutinizing this influence. Is it the Kli of bestowal?
M. Laitman: No, no, no.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:56:03) What does it mean that I am a spark of this whole treasure and I can see it, discover it and feel it only if my friends point me to it?
M. Laitman: We feel this because the Creator opens up our entire spiritual system; the system of connections.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:57:05) You, prior to that, you said previously to converse with the, we have to talk to the Creator. How do we do that?
M. Laitman: From the heart, without, not through the mouth, from the heart.
Student: Is it a prayer?
M. Laitman: Yes, prayer. And also a prayer.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:57:36) Baal HaSulam says here in this article that nothing is more natural for a person. And he speaks as if it is so, then there's nothing more natural than coming into contact with one's Maker. Why is it so heavy to attain then? It's so hard.
M. Laitman: Well, because we exist in this unnatural state.
Student: Yes, but our nature is to receive. Why isn't it natural?
M. Laitman: It's not natural because nature, all of creation is to bestow.
Student: At the end of the article he says it's as if somebody will come to a person and will tell them that you have this treasure. So who's coming and who's saying?
M. Laitman: The Kabbalist.
Student: How do we then understand that in one moment that we have all this? So what is happening? There has to be some work.
M. Laitman: Because we are shown this and it becomes easier.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:59:05) Question from friends: The opposites in us, they are a part of another opposite. Minus, plus, light, night, bitter, sweet.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: So how do you, when you see bitterness, how do you also can see sweetness? How do I see it as one? Because Creator is one.
M. Laitman: And?
Student: Do we learn how to attain this in the Ten?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: So when a person is awarded with the ability to justify a friend and sees how much a friend is trying, making efforts and how hard it is to overcome ego, what's the right way to support, to help? Or it's a process that is individual for every person. So it's between a person and the Creator?
M. Laitman: This is an individual process, but you can take very accurate actions within it.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:00:51) Can I help my friend to find the true place, his true place in the Ten?
M. Laitman: Yes. Yes. Good job.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:01:14) You were answering some time ago that our spiritual effort is being accumulated and
M. Laitman: On which level?
Student: Yes, yes, some level, some account of ours. A lot of friends in their time, they used to be burning and excited and they were putting a lot of effort into it. And they gradually…
M. Laitman: But these efforts, they don't disappear.
Student: Yes. So I wanted to ask, can we use this again?
M. Laitman: Of course.
Student: And how do we do it?
M. Laitman: Well, you read the books and you watch some, some documents, the excerpts. And then there is a result. You have, you have this influence from other people.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:02:23) The same force that is hidden from us, just for us, that hides from us the fact that we see how lucky we are. Can we call it evil inclination? Is it the evil inclination?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:03:03) It says here that each creature already has contact with its Maker. We do not feel it, we don't know it, but it seems that he's far from us and it would help us to feel Him closer. How do we reach this? What would help us feel Him closer now, the whole Kli?
M. Laitman: To demand from Him, simply to demand with any words.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:04:06) I'm very happy to be here, particularly from West Africa. I'm really happy to be here and to listen to my great friend who speaks about Africa. And truly, there are issues in Africa. When I was at a congress in Moldova in Kishinev five years ago. We spoke with you a lot. And in the third excerpt of Baal HaSulam that we just read. When we read it, it calmed me. Because African Kli does not know that it has treasure in their pocket. We want the whole World Kli and Israeli Kli, European, Latin American, African. So that everyone would help the African group, our friends. For them to reveal the treasure that they have in their pockets. We need everyone in Europe also.
We need you and I asked our great friend here and the other friend, so they could help us. What can be done to help our friends? We simply need it for you guys to awaken us. And it's not that we don't have desire. But it's not easy. It's complicated to arrive here. But I still arrived because I felt such intense importance of the goal. And I really want for this opportunity that was given to us. I want to use it to awaken our friends in Africa. And so I want to ask all the friends from the whole World Kli. Please think about us, about the friends in Africa. So, that we could also know that there is treasure in our pockets.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:07:02) How do we, how can we feel our connection with the Creator from the Ten? How can we attain it?
M. Laitman: We, we talk about this all the time, and we hope that as a result of this congress today we have a second half, and tomorrow you will feel how it works. We will be in connection, and we'll continue together.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:08:05) How are we advancing in spirituality without thinking about the reward, if we look at it as a reply from the Creator?
M. Laitman: We progress towards the spiritual reward, and we see this opportunity to give to the Creator, to be close to Him, and in this we see a reward.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:09:33) Can I ask a question from the 8th excerpt?
M. Laitman: No, we didn't get to that one yet.
Student: There's this excerpt, if he will love the Creator, even when his soul is taken from him. It is called the full love.
M. Laitman:Yes.
Student: Can I ask a question in Ukrainian? This question is from a friend, MAK 51, she works in tech support of Ukraine Kli.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: What does it mean the Creator takes the soul?
M. Laitman: It means the Creator is elevating the person, one step higher.
Student: What does it mean to be without a soul?
M. Laitman: It's as if the Creator is taking away a soul; it means that the Creator is raising him one degree higher.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:12:11) We came to the congress to reveal the upper light, this light reveals, that opens our eyes and it opens the eyes of everyone of us to see the greatness of one's friend. And the Creator is in this house, the Creator will be revealed to us in this house. I want to bless this house: Dear Creator, bless this house please, dear Creator, bless this house as you have blessed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. So my question is how can I set free from my ego, for the desire to receive that is always chasing me, constantly chasing me?
M. Laitman: This question is in everyone's heart, how do we get rid of egoism? Only when we unite and together turn to the Creator, we turn towards Him; we demand that He will correct us. Only this way.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:14:49) A year ago I asked a question, and you recommended me to open my heart to my question, neither my heart understood it, nor could my mind imagine it. Now, even though my mind still doesn't comprehend, I want to open my heart to everyone. So the question is: In these unknown lands, what will guide us?
M. Laitman: What Kabbalists write for us, we must understand these texts and realize them. It will be good. The good future is ahead of us.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:15:58) The Ten is asking: In the middle of the excerpt we just read, it says, actually, one who is awarded contact with Him attains only the awareness. The question is: What does it mean that one attains only the awareness? Isn't there anything more to attain and if so, what would that be?
M. Laitman: Knowing that the Creator prepared everything and controls and manages everything; He is the one that's revealed to everyone. Because, There's None Else Besides Him, only the Creator manages everything and brings everything to the general correction.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:17:48) We come from the Czech Republic, I would love to ask you if you can bless our group?
M. Laitman: With gladness, I bless your group and your country and we hope that I will see more and more friends here from there.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:18:16) I have a question. You said before that we should speak with the Creator with the heart. The heart speaks silently in the hidden, but we speak more with the mind, so how to pay attention to what the heart says, in order to have the right connection with the Creator?
M. Laitman: We must try to unite with the friends in such a way, so the Creator will help us. And if I relate to this unification with the Creator as much as I can with my heart, then the Creator, along with me, completes these actions and then I succeed.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:20:18) How do we organize our heart in order to organize our knowledge and our feelings?
M. Laitman: The main thing is that my heart is connected with the friends of mine, and then it will be directed to the Creator and to the rest of creation.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:21:23) I have the feeling that it is our task to study our ego in relation to the friends and somehow to control our collective ego. What does it mean, this common ego that wants to die?
M. Laitman: The ego that wants to die, there is no such thing. It is us who wants to kill it. It is our common ego, our common desire that wants to fulfill itself from all sources, from everything.
Student: This variety of the parts that are gathering here, is this what is teaching me that this ego that stands in the way, how can we achieve this point of self-annulment before the Ten?
M. Laitman: Only when we work together and everyone helps each other.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:23:32) You said that when we ask together we turn to the Creator and we demand. I want to understand, clarify, what does it mean we turn to the Creator with our demand?
M. Laitman: We turn to the Creator. The Creator is a degree above us and we ask it?
Student: And the second part is turning towards Him.
M. Laitman: It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. We didn't study all the actions yet.
Student: So we're not ready for this?
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:25:02) I present my Ten, Italy 3, which gave me forces during this difficult period. It's hard to buy tickets and travel here. I don't want to disappoint my friends, and I want to ask you how I can take this force of the entire World Kli and bring it back to my Ten?
M. Laitman: In the meantime you're among us so just absorb whatever is here. And once you're back home and you will want to tell about it, tell them what you had here, we'll also be with you together back there. That's it. It's going to be okay.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:26:26) I represent the Romanian Kli. How can I speak to the Creator even though I’m..
M. Laitman: If we are in the Creator, there is no problem; He translates us to the true language.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:27:44) The servant of the Creator gets more and more knowledge, so to come to the contact with the Creator, we need more and more feelings. So how do we distinguish between knowledge and feelings, so the knowledge will complement feelings, and feelings will complement knowledge?
M. Laitman: It's done by the Creator Himself.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:28:37) The will to receive is the matter we are working with. So, sometimes we say we cover it, sometimes killing it, sometimes overcoming it. Is it the same action, or it's different actions, which we do on different occasions?
M. Laitman: All different.
Student: So when do we do each? When do we kill it, for example?
M. Laitman: We don't slaughter it; the Creator does that.
Student: Our Creator kills the ego. So, when do we overcome it?
M. Laitman: In order for Him to kill it. In order for Him to kill it.
Student: And to overcome it, is it the same, to cover and overcome?
M. Laitman: No, it's the same thing.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:30:53) Today, in the first lesson, there were many good questions that were asked, but I felt that I started to fall asleep towards the end of the lesson, and I wanted to return back to the topic that the first lesson was dedicated to. We're dedicating ourselves to the spiritual goal and maybe we will go a little deeper into this. And why do we come here, why do we gather here? What do we want to achieve in this first lesson?
M. Laitman: This lesson, in this part of the lesson, we want to achieve the feeling or revelation of the need of mutual unity. Everyone with the others, and in this state we will later be able to address the Creator and ask Him, and like this, continue uniting like this.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:33:26) Please give us advice and guidance, how can we women of Bnei Baruch carry ourselves during the congress in such a way that we inspire and cover the men of Bnei Baruch to accelerate and strengthen their development, and also to push forward the women during this congress?
M. Laitman: Well, you have to unite within yourselves, in one singular desire towards one single goal so that between you there would be no distances, as one man in one heart.
Student: In other words, the women will add this force. We understand that women have a hard time to connect, but if they put more efforts to connect, it will influence the men?
M. Laitman: Yes. It will make men unite. It will make men unite.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:34:57) The Creator created creation and laws of nature, and so why can't a person carry out these laws but instead just destroys nature?
M. Laitman: It's his nature; it's the opposite nature.
Student: So his nature is the opposite of the nature of the Creator?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Why is it so?
M. Laitman: The solution is to change his nature towards the nature of the Creator.
Student: When will this happen?
M. Laitman: When you will want it.
Student: So I must connect everyone's desires?
M. Laitman: Yes, yes something like that.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:35:51) Is there a connection or relation between what's happening here between us and what's happening in our country?
M. Laitman: I don't think so.
Student: There's no relation at all? Should I have some influence between these?
M. Laitman: No.
Student: I only need to focus on what's here right now?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:36:23) I hear the questions of all the friends and I am in such inspiration and excitement, I don't recall when I felt like this before the congress and I feel so small and I feel so embarrassed about all my small scrutiny. But on the other hand, I feel like a mother, that's loving my child, how great he is, how smart he is, even though he doesn't believe this or feel this, but this is what I'm feeling. And when I hear the questions of the friends, how can the mother that's standing in front of her child and sees such great things about him and he doesn't understand this, what can I do with this? If I feel like this, so small, how can I help them with anything?
M. Laitman: Ego does not allow them to see it. Ego, does not let them see it. We need a general force, united, so that everyone would influence each other and then we will succeed.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:38:06) My question is: Is the evil inclination in us recognized or unrecognized, can devotion be the best remedy to overcome and correct this inclination within us?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Or there is something other than devotion?
M. Laitman: Except for self-sacrifice, there is nothing.
Student: Could I say devotion is a way to salvation?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:39:17) Now, today we have a new record in the Center, more than two thousand people, two thousand two hundred and some people, two thousand four hundred, let's see. And we have, in addition to this, many, many mirror congresses - forty, more than three thousand friends on all these congresses that are connected with us virtually and internally.
M. Laitman: I don't have anything to add.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:40:13) If we could just ask you to sing your favorite song for us, for all of us, as for one Ten, if it's possible at all, please? We beg you.
M. Laitman: What song does she want?
Student: Whichever is your favorite. The one that you love the most.
M. Laitman: I don't know.
Student: Shema Yisrael?
M. Laitman: Shema Yisrael? You want this? Okay.
