A Kabbalist’s Reflection on Ben-Gurion Day

8. Nov. 2021
Ben-Gurion Day is an Israeli national holiday celebrated annually on the sixth of the Hebrew month of Kislev (usually in November) to pay homage to the first Prime Minister of the State of Israel and one of its founding fathers. David Ben-Gurion was a visionary and uncompromising in his drive to create and sustain the Jewish state. He also felt that the sustenance of the Jewish state depended on the Jewish people’s unity: “Only on the basis of love your neighbour as yourself, can the State of Israel be established faithful to the great human destiny of Judaism." Likewise, Jewish disunity would lead to their—and the State of Israel’s—downfall. Jews have an obligation to live in mutual guarantee by helping one another, and by uniting above their differences. There is a need for education of unifying principles and tactics in order to allow for Jewish unity. The Jewish people can only reach their purpose by exercising the fundamental principles of love, which are the essence of the Torah.
