The Approach to Studying the Wisdom of Kabbalah - Selected Excerpts from the Sources. #33

1.Rav’s Introduction: We try to recover to awaken from the day from the night for each one whatever he had before the lesson and in the preparation for the lesson to reach connection between us. All in all, the upper light influences the connection between us not each of us individually but rather it influences at least two and it's desirable that it would be the ten. Then we receive it, we feel it and we are changed by it. This is how we become incorporated in the general Malchut and we come closer to the Creator therefore the whole preparation for the lesson is in that and how much we can come closer to each other. This is what we learned when we finished yesterday the article of Matan Torah of the giving of the Torah and today we will continue to the our Arvut article so it's explain there it's written Baal HaSulam explains all this to us primarily in all our preparations for the study so let's continue.

Excerpt 33 (02:10) "When learning, one should settle within him.."

2. R. (02:34) This means that most important during the study and before the studying he is to settle himself correctly to aim himself correctly towards the Creator. We can be towards the Creator only in one state when we want to annul our ego and where do we see it because it is separating between us and therefore all of our request or appeal to the Creator and practice in order for him to connect between us to bring us closer to one man that is called Adam. This is what we're expecting that the Creator will connect our heads, our thoughts, our hearts all of us into one and in that one the more we connect to this concept of one we will feel the Creator as dwelling in us in our qualities and will be like his and then we will reach resembling him the degree of Adam, similar to the Creator.

Excerpt 34 (03:50) “The Creator who created and gave that…”

3. R. (05:22) This means that we need to constantly be concerned about the purpose of the study. How much we need the upper force so that it will scrutinize for us the degree of distance in between us and from us to the Creator. As much as we need to reach being as one man in one heart as much as this force of the evil comes from the Creator himself in order for us to detect it and should scrutinize the connection between us and again and again we will come closer to the Creator with our plea that he will rule us and he will connect us into one heart and this is the only thing we need. In quantity and in quality as he's telling us here that we need to be connected into one man so that this one man, we are all incorporated in him, and he is called Adam. We are not Adam or children of Adam, we are just little parts where above us if we do want to connect then we will become parts of Adam.

Therefore what we are asking for is the power of connection that comes from the Creator and it makes us into a single system. This is all of our effort, meaning to connect in one heart, in one mind, and one desire so that everything will be aimed towards the state where we are operating as part of a single body. In that mutual support, we will draw the reforming light. It will take care of us and it will build out of us it will connect out of us a single system called Adam. In that system we’ll discover the Creator and according to our annulment before this one upper force because we will be as one like him Malchut that truly deserves to be connected to the Keter one opposite one, then we will attain him, feel him and exist like him.

4. S. (08:31) From the Torah we’ll come out of Zion it says, meaning it's important not only to hold on to the Creator but it's also good to disconnect and immediately reconnect. It's a frequency not only the time of adhesion right?

R. We need to care only for connection and then to the extent that we care for the connection between us, then we'll feel how much we are in separation. It's not that we need to care for the separation when we scrutinize how far we are from each other, no, we cannot scrutinize these things and in general it's not in the same direction of our correction but only the connection between us. Then along the way we will discover the separation and what separation we have between us we don't yet understand to what extent we are separated and contrast to each other that's only on the condition that we are drawn to connection nowhere does it say that I need to scrutinize the separation it is revealed to the extent that we yearn for unity.

5. S. (09:59) How can I detect which one is missing?

R. I simply yearn to be connected to the friends in different states that we are in. The most is that our direction or inclination will be one to the Creator, to the force that is managing us, managing each one in his measure and in his manner according to the root of the soul of each one. We want to become incorporated and Him for it says ' our heart will rejoice in Him" that we will reach a state where each one of us and all of us are incorporated in a single root because he is a root for all of us. This is how it will happen. We don't need to be concerned about how it will happen that we don't know. This is revealed along the way to the extent that we yearn for the Creator who is the root that unites us to that extent we will feel how much we are more and more incorporated in each other and will rise above the force of our ego that is separating between us.

6. S. (11:48) There's a feeling that the Creator constantly shows us how separated we are broken and distant. We can't feel one another, only separation. He's only showing us this one part.

R. Apparently, He can't show us anything else because we don't have it. We don't yet have between us any true connection in which we become incorporated together and therefore this is what we see. We need to continue but the first point is where we all need to connect together. That's our first rate on spirituality.

7. S. (12:45) To connect in one heart, how can we gather around this common root? We have to attain it first ?

R. No, we cannot attain the root if you're not connected with others because you don't have a vessel to attain the root. You first have to connect with the others and in that the surrounding light works it doesn't reach you directly but rather it influences from afar.

8. S. (13:25) You said we unite in the general Malchut that reveals the Creator. What does it mean that we are united in her?

R. If we take our desires and wish to connect them and add them to the Creator to attain the Keter.

9. S. (13:57) What's the difference between yearning, exertion and effort ? Sometimes you use this word, sometimes another.

R. Your questions are not so clear. The question between yearning and exertion yearning is yearning but exertion is when you already add to the yearning your efforts your unique efforts that are directed than the yearning becomes also exertion labor work actions and by that you already invite the Creator's response the response of the upper Force according to your coarseness according to your power you invite a response from Him.

10. S. (15:00) The system of Adam to which we should connect, how to depend on the Creator. I don't understand something here?

R. There is an appeal from the created being to the Creator and there is also the Creator turns into the created being. First there has to be our request that we want to get better. to be corrected, to come closer to the Creator that's what it's about and then to that request even the smallest one, the creator will answer.

S. The ten needs to turn to the Creator through the system or do they overlap once you arrange the two functions together?

R. Which functions?

S. The system of Adam HaRishon that we connect or the Creator?

R. I don't understand your confusion, Adam HaRishon, the system, I don't understand. We need to, don't speak in high words that we don't have a group on. We, if even two two people connect between us and we are willing to give up the ego between them and they turn out of the connection between them then those people already by that become as one, to some extent. Something that connects between them upon the ego that is separating between them so if they turn out of the connection between them above the ego between them, to the Creator. The Creator already answers them. It could be that he answers them with something small on a small measure but already he is drawing them towards Him and this is how as they advance. They come closer to the Creator more and more and more.

11. S. (17:13) At the end of item 34, Baal HaSulam describes the state where the students' minds have gone astray and they forget the correct intention of the light shall yield faith. The question is how can we support each other during the lesson to protect each friend from leaving the correct intention?

R. We cannot not leave each other, we cannot be without distancing from each other because each and every time, every moment, new desires appear in us. Even if a moment ago, I performed a certain successful action of connection and I'm successful with a friend, a moment later a new desire within me, it awakens and then to that extent I feel myself disconnected from the friends. In the beginning of the disconnection, I don't even feel that I'm disconnected because I live inside of my desire, inside this new desire. I don't yet compare the new desire with the earlier desire and how much I was connected and how much now I'm not disconnected . I am not yet aware of it but this is how it happens.

Each and every moment we need to be concerned about the connection and aim it to the Creator, Every moment because the upper light operates in a constant manner, what we call an absolute rest, and each time it changes the desires within us. Therefore, each time according to that we have to be with the intention to connect between us more and more. Under all kinds of new conditions,even if we don't feel the change in the conditions because we are not yet sensitive enough, subtle enough, towards the changing states. We have to try nevertheless to always be in the direction of connection upon all of the states. the old ones. the new ones. It doesn't matter which ones.

That is thinking about the connection that has to be constant sensitivity to the connection is something that we have to raise all the time more and more,and then according to that we will reach a state where we will begin to feel we will make it we will begin to feel our attitude or our relations in relation to the Creator Since we have here we as a group and to the extent that we can be as a group being connected to some extent at least as one, then to this discernment of one that comes out of the group ,we can connect and feel that it is connected with one Creator. This state is what we have to constantly yearn for that we are as one to some subtle enough extent and we are connected with the Creator, who is one, and that point of connection we have to constantly make it bigger and bigger and bigger we have to feel it all the time ,and be concerned about it all the time because this is our spiritual baby. This is the beginning of the spiritual Partzuf that we are building.

Each one should try to establish this concept. the ten as one and that it yearns to discover the Creator, Then when we reach contact with Him then already from that moment on we enter the ladder of degrees, as more and more we are able to be connected to Him and to discover that He is connected with us.  In our world the baby that grows naturally discovers that there is an upper one ,the mother, and she's taking care of it and it yearns for her and its will to receive a small egoistic desire, and she's constantly willing to answer his desire and and her whole life is for him. This is how it develops in corporeality, because they have between them a common will to receive, whereas in spirituality we have to develop our connection with the Creator from a will to bestow, from his side this something that is natural. From our side there has to be a will to bestow that we establish, that we generate, we aim from us to Him so to the extent that we already are already to connect between us above our ego by that we establish a will to bestow towards the Creator this is called from 'the love of people from the love of friends to the love of the Creator'.

This is how we then begin to reach out to Him to approach Him and there is no other way. All in all, the conditions are very simple, they're not complex and they are revealed relatively. We can understand them and we can implement them. However, now the question is only that there has to be agreement in the group, in the ten, that we are doing it and that we will truly try to remind each other to remind each other that this is our work.

12. S. (24:54) How can we stop thinking of ourselves and think of the ten with everything we do, even our private personal lives?

R. We have no choice. If I want to aim myself to the Creator then I have to enter connection with someone, either one or five or ten it doesn't matter how many, the most important is that by that I wish to rise above my will to receive for myself and aim myself towards others, and with those others to aim to the Creator. Because the Creator is the others eventually, In order for us to know how to aim ourselves to Him, He divided the one desire that was called the soul of Adam HaRishon into many parts and therefore if we try to connect between us, above the force that is pushing us away from each other then in that way we aim ourselves to the Creator.

We simply need to be consistent in that and there is no other way just to realize that this is a very simple thing actually, according to the idea it's a simple thing: You want to reach a state of bestowing, of the bestower, so this is the way by which you can be similar to Him. When you rise above your ego this is called ‘the restriction’, and then above your ego you connect with others. By wanting to connect with others but you cannot, by that you activate your request, your prayer; and from above you get a force that will connect between you and by that you achieve the will to bestow. You realize that you don't want it, that you cannot connect with the others but you nevertheless ask the Creator that He will do it for you, by that you receive from above forces. These are forces that do not exist in our world; they only come from the Creator. Why? Because all in all what happens is it is a force of bestowal, it is a force from the other nature that exists above our whole world; the force of bestowal. In our world there is no force of bestowal even if we give to each other it is all in the will to receive. So, we get from above the force of bestowal and then we start to work with it.

13. S. (28:46) How do we know if we are exerting enough as a ten?

R. There is no such thing as enough. If we succeed in reaching the revelation of the Creator within us, in the connection between us, it's enough. If we cannot then it's not enough. That’s all. We, for the time being, there are those who succeed more and others who succeed less, there are those who almost succeed and there are many who do not yet succeed because they forget. They forget during the study what we are studying for, that we are studying mainly to draw the reforming light, that's it. Therefore I have nothing else to think about while I'm studying and it doesn't matter what is it that I'm studying from the Wisdom of Kabbalah: They all talk about the Force of the Creator which bestow to the created beings and I want to be that created being or among those created beings that He is bestowing to. So for that I have to connect to the others and according to the degree of my connection, in that place of connection between me and the others, this is where the Upper Force is bestowing to. If I establish such a place, if I want Him to bestow, if I serve to Him that; this is me and this is the friend and I and the friend want to be together, then that seam line between us; this is where the Creator is bestowing and He's connecting to us, and to the extent that we have connected we begin to feel Him; the form of mutual bestowal and whatever exist above us.

14. S. (34:12) Do we even need to know that I or we are giving contentment to the Creator or is it always above reason?

R. Yes. We do cause pleasure to the Creator to the extent that we connect between us and out of the connection, that we are drawn to connection with Him, certainly. Giving contentment to the Creator should actually be our primary intention: Just as He established everything and He created everything in order to benefit His creations, that this was his thought in creation to create the created beings in order to bring them to His degree from their opposite form, truly; that the created being is in its beginning and then elevate it to the degree of the Creator, from minus infinity to plus infinity. This is how we should aim ourselves: That all of our work is in order to reach a state where we bestow to the Creator just as He wants to bestow to us.

S. In the past it seemed that there was some authority above me that I needed to work towards in order to please Him in my work, but here it seems that bestowing contentment is about strengthening our connection that we want to be connected and help one another, is this correct?

R. There are two things. The goal is to reach identification with the Creator, to reach His degree. I can do it only if I become like Him and in order to be like Him I need to be the bestower, the giver, with all my forces so I need to discover all of my forces and when I discover them I feel them as opposite to the Creator, this is called ‘the forces of the ego’. Then I have to change them from in order to receive for myself, to in order to bestow to others; this is why the Creator created not one man but seemingly he broke him into many people so that in the connection between us we can correct ourselves, we can invert ourselves from in order to receive each one for himself to in order to bestow each one for the others, and by that we reach a state where we all make ourselves similar to the Creator.

Now there is an issue, how can we work with the Creator, where we don't understand, we don't feel, we're not aware of who He is, what He is? Therefore we have work in the vessel; as much as we reject and distance from each other or come closer up to a connection between us. In that inclination to move away or to come closer we can check ourselves where we are, in which direction, and according to that we can locate ourselves to which direction we are with respect to the Creator. We call that “from the love of people to the love of the Creator” and this is how we need to arrange ourselves, okay?

S. There are additional questions here, I’ll try to do it briefly. Here in the excerpt it says also: That when one changes his heart then the vessel will be worthy of being filled with the upper light. And we learned from Matan Torah, the giving of the Torah, that what resembles the root in my desire awakens in me rejection at a certain point. Meaning we begin with one point of light on a black background that wants to bestow, so in that state whatever the root awakens rejection in us but when that small point grows and becomes the one who is ruling, then whatever is in the root awakens feelings of pleasantness in me…?

R. I can't tell you what to do. For the time being look at it the way you're looking at it and don't wait but do all the actions as they become available to you and then you'll see what's happening. I can't answer for the time being what you're describing, those are all things along the way and each one describes, depicts them differently.

15. S. (40:07) What is the difference between the heart and desire?

R. Heart and desire are one and the same. It's the same.
