Baal HaSulam. Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah. #15

Reading item #14: " To save the Created beings…"

1. S. (04:90) He says that the part of the light is rejected is reflected light and as it clothed the upper light it becomes a vessel reception of the upper light instead of phase four. What's the reason that the light was rejected?

R. That we don't want to receive the light in order to receive and that's why you reject it and this rejection qualifies the vessel to receive the light in order to bestow and they give you an example and we learn about it just like when you're sitting as a guest in front of a house and they give you this and this and that and you reject it, you refuse it, you say thank you I'm not hungry and so on and so forth meaning this is called rejection, refusal and then after this rejection when you receive then it's not considered reception because you're doing it according to the desire of the host.

S. So is my job not to reject reception to accept  what the host is offering me, what will that give me?

R. Your role is to be not receiving but like the host also bestowing.

S. What's the condition, when do I receive what the host is giving?

R. After you reject it, you refuse it, you make a calculation how much you can receive nevertheless after the rejection you make a calculation and that's how you come to the solution.

S. Why am I asking? Because he says afterwards Malchut received it to the extent of the reflected light so does this act increase and make the vessel bigger?

R. It qualifies the vessel to receive in order to bestow.

2. S. (06:25) How does the upper light clothe the reflected light?

R. One inside the other as much as one wants to bestow to the other the other one wants to bestow to the first one and that's how they feel one another.

S. When we want to bestow upon the Creator it is one way to relate to Him what does He give us in this relation?

R. Without the connection between us he can't give anything.

S. I mean from within our connection in the ten when we try to give Him something, what does He?

R. He gives us a filling to fill us.

S. What are we rejecting first?

R. We are rejecting the filling that comes without a calculation, just to receive for ourselves, this we reject.

S. So there is the rejection of the filling and also we try to do something for Him.

R. Correct with the intention for Him.

S. So the rejection and our attempt to bestow to Him are different actions?

R. Yes, different actions.

S. And later into our relations He passes something, He gives something?

R. No, no we just rejected the simple reception, afterwards we receive an attitude from Him.

S. What is this relation, the love we feel?

R. Love, yes love. He to us and us to Him.

S. And at these two degrees we can receive his love?

R. Yes.

3. S. (08:55) What is it exactly that the reflected light causes a vessel of bestowal where we can receive the upper light, how can it come that it forms a vessel?

R. Reflected light is when we can return to the Creator what we feel we are receiving from Him. A reaction, a reaction from the created being for the attitude of the Creator.

4. S. (09:58) Can it be said that mutual clothing of the direct light and reflected light is a common vessel?

R. Yes.

S. Are there other qualitative changes on the light after its reflected?

R. Of course, of course there are because the direct light clothes on the reflected light and together both of those lights enter the desire, the desire of the created being and then it's called inner light.

5. S. (11:04) In the beginning of the excerpt he says in order to save the created beings from the great separation the first restriction took place. He writes it like something that is a given it doesn't say what causes that salvation, that saving.

R. Hang on, the restriction takes place because of opposition disparity of form between the giver and the receiver and there's no choice here for the receiver but to restrict themself by not receiving otherwise he will be disconnected from the giver.

S. But what's the reason he wants to save them?

R. Save the souls from separation from the Creator. Otherwise they will stay in separation all the time and they'll have no way of correcting themselves and reaching adhesion.

6. S. (12:23) We learned this allegory about the guest and the host many times. What can we learn about our current situation when we're not in spirituality? Can we somehow begin to exercise this kind of relation or thought towards the Creator?

R. You can do it in any moment whenever you want, whatever you decide in any moment you can and start working in order to bestow. I'm thinking not of myself but of the Creator under what circumstances, which situations I can give Him contentment.

S. How can we bring it into actual practice so everything I receive from the Creator I immediately make some sort of calculation with it?

R. On that it says simply from love of the created beings to love of the Creator you can determine established relationships with the friends that will give pleasure to the Creator.

S. And different things that a person receives in corporeality can he also think somehow how to give to the Creator through them?

R. No it's the relation between himself and others other people and most importantly the relationship between him and the ten.

7. S. (13:54) What's the difference between the restriction and the screen?

R. The difference between the restriction and the screen? Restriction is when he restricts himself from receiving anything and with the screen you can select how much to receive in order to be best to the Giver and the difference is great, because with the restriction he restricts himself and with the screen it's the other way around he opens himself up to bestow.

8. S. (14:52) Does the rejection here give satisfaction to the Creator through our Ohr Hozer?

R. Yes, of course because why is he rejecting it? He rejects the pleasure from his ego from distancing himself from the Creator and by that he wants to approach the Creator come closer and give Him contentment so the rejection is already in action in the direction of connection.

S. If we don't want anything after rejection is it harmful? Does the Creator get angry or blush?

R. Repeat please.

S. If we don't want anything after the rejection is it harmful, does the Creator get angry or blush?

R.The Creator is not angry, He knows we are doing these things on the road to correction.

9. S. (16:45) It says that Malchut expands with the reflected light from above, from above downwards. What does it mean expands? What kind of change happens in Malchut?

R. Malchut connects with all the Sefirot all the lights and dresses in them and expands from above downward until she comes to all of the Sefirot to the Malchut of the degree.

S. He writes that the reflective light becomes a vessel for the upper light. How can light become a vessel?

R. No, I can't explain, I'm just saying it's the condition. There has to be rejection, restriction, and a calculation how one can close the other and then accordingly he can already receive. To the extent that I reject what I am receiving from the host and basically I am rejecting his intention, I explain to him my intention and then our intentions to delight each other connect, and in this way we come to connection. And we can delight each other, adhere to each other, that's basically the operation.

10. S. (18:30) What does it mean that Malchut expanded?

R. To the extent that Malchut can reject the pleasure to that extent she can receive it in order to bestow.

11. S. (18:50) Is it correct that in every pleasure there is attitude of what's being received and attitude to the Creator? It doesn't matter if he receives or not, he is seemingly the connecting link between the Creator and the created beings.

R. Yes.

12. S. (19:34) When the friends thank me for something I tried to do to them, something good. What should be the correct action on my behalf? The response.

R. Whatever you feel in your heart this is how you should respond.

S. Meaning is it possible to put a restriction over it and for the sake of the Creator?

R. I don't know. This is too general of a question.

13. S. (20:10) Is restriction conceding my control? Can that be considered restriction?

R. Restriction is conceding my control, my ego, yes.

S. And giving up my free time for the ten and dissemination, is that also restriction?

R. Yes.

S. And something else. What about conceding anger towards the friends for their lack of participation? Is this also my restriction or here it's my work to turn to the Creator in the method of …

R. No, here of course, you are conceding your ego.

14. S. (20:59) Is the restriction what gives birth, gives form, to the screen?

R. Correct. correct.

15. S. (21:25) The guest and the host, can you say that Pharaoh is the host and Moses is the guest?

R. You can say it of course.

16. S. (21:52) Yesterday we read the same lines and you said, you need to read those lines again and again until it will become clearer what's happening here even between the lines. So indeed in the ten we read the excerpts a few times but how do you scrutinize the excerpts between the friends?

R. What each one is asking is already a scrutiny.

S. What does it mean?

R. You don't need to scrutinize more than the questions we all have in the ten, and then we ask everyone, each one who has a question asks everyone else and then by this we scrutinize, connect, and draw on ourselves the common reforming light, that is common to all of us and this is very important.

S. So today many tens are gathering and when we're sitting together to bring up the questions for each member of the ten should answer the questions that the friends are bringing up?

R. Yes.

S. And if we don't have anything there we bring it to the lesson?

R. Try to answer.

S. Okay, try to answer.

17. S. (23:12) He writes here, that the coupling from striking with the upper light and the screen, brings reflected light from below up and clothe the ten Sefirot of upper light as ten Sefirot of Rosh which is roots of the vessel because it cannot have actual clothing there. Is there clothing or not?

R. There's still no clothing, it's in potential.

S. What does it mean potential?

R. It means I am telling the host that I still cannot receive from Him, I still can't. I do want to do it for Him but I am still unable to do it in practice only in potential.

S. A person has to yearn for a screen or for a restriction?

R. A person should yearn to receive in order to bestow everything that comes to him from the creator.

18. S. (24:16) What is the screen made of?

R. The screen is made out of Kashiut, hardness. Meaning it's the same substance as the desire but, it is a will to receive only on condition that it can bestow.

S. What kind of action creates the screen?

R. rejection. rejection. When the lower one does not want to receive, it makes a restriction, and then scrutinizes what it can do In order to use this rejection; utilize it for connection with the Upper One.

19. S. (25:33) Right now I don't have a Creator I have no one to work with. I know it's a beautiful thing but I have no Creator so tell me in the ten practically what can I do. how can I raise reflected light with the friends practically in the ten?

R. What do you mean? When you have all kinds of relationships between you and the friends, between you and the creator, you try to build these relationships only by rejecting your ego; moving it as low as possible and you do everything towards the friends and through them to the Creator as much as possible in order to bestow. In other words you want to delight the friends and through them to delight the Creator.

S. With the attitude between the friends and the ten I can raise reflected light?

R. Yes.

S. Can you explain how?

R. you want to relate to them with the same relation that you feel from them.

S. Can you give an example? What do I need to do it in the ten practically? The friends are speaking between them, they're hearing the lesson, they are studying, how do I need to behave in the lesson? What do I need to do, how to raise the reflected light?

R. You think constantly during the lesson how you along with the lesson come closer to the friends. You become close to them.

S. How do I come closer to them? That's the question.

R. Don't you have this inner feeling when you're close to someone?

S. It's my ten, I treat them like my ten.

R. Don't answer me about some ten theoretically I'm asking you when you're close to a person do you feel it or not?

S. Of course I care about him, I'm concerned, I care about him and I feel for him. That is called care?

R. Right. so try to feel this way towards all the friends in the ten.

S. Meaning with concern for the friend?

R. Yes.

S. This raises reflected light if I care?

R. That too.

S. So I have to put some resistance against anywhere he tells to me and usually I feel insulted and I have to rise above it? He doesn't only care for me he also sticks a line in some places so what do I have to do keep quiet?

R. I'm waiting for you to finish.

S. I'm asking you, what do I have to do? Care is one thing but how do I raise reflected light in the study?

R. If you during the study think about respecting your ego and studying together with all the friends in one desire, in one mind, in one intention to the one creator, in this way you all connect.

S. A lot of annulment before the friends?

R. Probably.

20. S. (29:10) If there's no coercion in spirituality why the host employs the guest in the example?

R. We need to learn what it means that there is no coercion in spirituality. It's just words that we heard. Then let's drop it. We need to learn it.

21. S. (29:51) Reflected light does that create new vessels or it allows us to use the same vessels that were already created in the world of Ein Sof after the restriction that became empty?

R. Yes exactly so.

22. S. (30:21) When we go through the stage of bestowing in order to bestow we grow this reflected light and we expand the vessel. And at which moment the person understands that he has enough of that vessel or that reflected light in order to receive in order to bestow, or how does he understand it or does it happen somehow from above?

R. A person feels that his quality of bestowal, is synchronized, is congruent with the quality of bestowal of the Creator it's like two people sitting in front of each other and they want to hug each other when their desire correspond to each other and are congruent they feel it and then they can enjoy together what they have.

23. S. (31:38) Asking for help from the Creator for the friends, for every action that will help the friends is that reflected light?

R. It's not quite reflected light, it is the act but reflected light is that desire to bestow that comes from one to the other. We still need to, after a few lessons we'll understand exactly what is reflected light.

S. If I felt that if I'm receiving help from the Creator and not for myself it's already reflected light, I returned to the Creator to bestow to him and not to me.

R. There are special conditions and actions in order to formulate and establish the reflected light.

24. S. (32:43) Yesterday we heard that the adhesion of the ten and the Creator that is our goal. The result is that we give the Creator the vessel of the ten to the Creator.

R. Can you repeat?

S. Yesterday in the lesson we heard that our goal is the adhesion of the ten with the Creator. And we attain it by giving our vessel of the ten to the Creator to fill it, we pass the vessel of the ten to the Creator to fill it is that reflected light?

R. Yes, yes.

25. S. (33:41) If a friend is in pain and feeling sleepy or still restrict this desire to sleep and to attain to their own pain because they want to connect to the ten is that a screen?

R. It's not an active restriction with a screen as it should be with desires and our operations but it's something similar. In corporeality it is something similar, yes.

Reading item #15 (35:23)

26. R. (39:35) So it's possible that this hunger and appetite are much more than what he's rejecting and doesn't agree to receive for nothing, for free. But he does it only according to his rejection, in other words there's a new vessel of reception here only according to it he receives. Clear?

27. S. (40:30) It's not clear at all because if I come now hungry to the meal at a friend's place I say okay I'm not going to eat it and then I eat it later, then after the eating you fall into cessation, how to receive correctly the food?

R. You accept the food in order to bestow upon the host and not because you're hungry. Because you see in this food how the host wants to give you and through acceptance of the food you want to give the pleasure back to the host so it turns out that my eating you perform mutual rejection and mutual agreement then you are delighting one another. The host is giving you pleasure by serving you food, and you please the host bye accepting the food from him and presenting him with your relation and other words everything is shifted from the food to the intention.

S. So it means that right now I feel the satiation, the filling of the desire I put this aside for a second I talk about the attitude I am grateful for the attitude that I received from the host? All that good from him?

R. Yes, the relation is what counts.

28. S. (42:19) He writes that the forces of pleading are imploring when they accumulate they add up to a sufficient amount. When is the imploring and rejection come to a decision where I cannot receive in order to bestow?

R. He feels that the shame disappears.

S. It's a calculation when the shame disappears?

R. Yes, that's the test. If I have no more shame it's a sign that I can receive because it will be in order to bestow.

29. S. (43:05) Is the reason we don't want to take anything or receive from the friend is that our ego or because we are unable to receive from the Creator?

R. We're talking about a person towards whom? Towards the friend or towards the Creator? She's connecting the two together. This is why I don't understand her question.

30. S. (44:03) What does it mean to feed one another in the ten?

R. Feeding one another in the ten means that in the ten we all want to bestow upon the others both the appetite and satiation and the feeling of connection and for all of it to be closed in one another together.

31. S. (44:40) As a Young Group and the example he gave how different vessel was gives when we look from within hungry and not hungry, now we understand that the intention comes. When we are in the lesson how do we open up to this part, how do we incorporate in this other intention that we can't see?

R. I don't know, I connect to this topic every time a new, every time anew. I studied maybe 150 times if not more. That's the way it is.

S. So little by little like little children?

R. Of course.
