162. The two apples of the face of ZA, as two perfume offerings that give off a good scent, the illumination of Hochma from below upward, as it is written, “Man’s wisdom illuminates his face,” are a testimony to AVI. This is because all the testimony to recognize a face depends on the face, but the testimony depends on whole form of the face, on the forehead and on the nose, since one does not testify to a face unless it has a nose. However, these two perfume offerings, white and red, are a testimony to AVI in which the Mochin of HB in AVI shine, shining in the face of ZA, who are called Edut [testimony], from the word Eden, Hochma.
They are a testimony to the inheritance he had inherited from AVI, and he grips them. The two Mochin HB are called “inheritance of AVI.” There are several distances between white and red, yet they are incorporated in ZA as one, on the white side, under the control of the white, Hesed.
It is written, “In the light of the King’s face is life,” and also, “The Lord will shine His face to you.” This indicates the illumination of HB that ZA receives from AVI, which shines for Israel. It is a testimony to Israel that the Creator is close to them, or vice versa. If the illumination of HB is under the control of the white, Hesed, then He is close to them. If the red is in control, the left, then He hides His face from them.
163. When the face of ZA shines in white, Hesed, from Atik, the white in it, Hesed, covers the red in it, Hochma of the left, and everything is in illumination. At that time, it is written, “The Lord will shine His face to you.” When the wicked are many and judgments hang in the world, there is closing in everything; all the lights close and do not shine, the red spreads in the Panim [face], judgment, and covers the white, Rachamim [mercy], and then everything is in judgment. At that time, it is written, “The face of the Lord in harm-doers.” Everything depends on this, and this is why the face are the testimony of everything.
164. Many protecting angels wait for those colors of the face, white and red, and await these colors. When the colors shine, all the worlds are in gladness. When the white shines, everything is seen in the color of Hesed. When it is seen in red, everything is seen in the color of judgment.
