546. “And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, ‘This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.’” Abraham, who was walking in wholeness before the holy king, how did he not believe the words of the Creator who said that he would have sons, for it is written, “To your descendants I will give this land,” and afterwards He said, “and a member of my household will be my heir”? How did he not believe the Creator?
547. However, in the beginning of the verse, it is written, “seeing I go childless,” and afterwards, it is written, “You have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” However, in the beginning, Abraham believed in the Creator, but then he looked in the stars and the signs, and saw that he would not have a son. This is why he said “I go childless,’ since until then, he was still not adhered in adhesion with his master.
548. When it is written, “and he took him out,” taking him outside that road, and drew him near to His work, to know other ways of the wisdom, and took him out of those guesses of fortunes, and said to him, “Abram does not beget; Abraham begets.” This is the meaning of the words, “And your name shall no more be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father [Av] of many nations.”
549. Abraham begets because in all the letters, there is not a letter that is established for bearing except for the letter Hey. This letter is established so as to bear fruits and offspring more than all the other letters, and this is why she is open on all sides.
550. But was it needed to add this letter to Abraham? After all, she is not his, since Hey everywhere is a female, and it would be appropriate for this letter to be inscribed to Sarah, within her, since she is a female, and not to Abraham.
551. However, there are two letters in the name HaVaYaH—one higher and one lower, the male world, Bina, and the bottom world, the female, Malchut. When the Hey was added in Abraham, the first light, Hesed, as that Hey was wrapped in him, he went out and bore fruits. Abraham was inscribed in that high degree of his through the power of the first Hey, Bina, since the first light has no power, except for the first Hey, Bina, the male, the root of Hesed. Because of it, the first light took with it the letter Hey and settled in its degree, in its name, and the first light went up to make offspring.
552. Two letters are inscribed here, which rise to the upper world: the Hey-Mem of Abraham. The letter Mem is from the upper world, Bina, and the Hey is also from the upper world. What is the difference between the letter Mem and the letter Hey, since they are both from the upper world?
553. When everything is concealed in the upper thought, Bina, and she is a dot that does not expand and is concealed within, all those upper trails and hidden letters were all concealed in the letter [final] Mem. All the upper trails and letters were concealed and incorporated in this letter since when it came up in the desire to be revealed and bring out offspring, that letter Mem opened and became a Hey.
That Bina is YESHSUT. In the beginning, two lines right and left came out in YESHSUT. At that time, all her lights were concealed due to the dispute that there was between the right and the left. Then she was regarded as a blocked Mem [ם], which is blocked on all sides and cannot shine. When ZA rose for MAN, he decided and made peace between the two lines, and they united with each other. At that time, her lights were opened, and then it is considered that the blocked Mem opened and became a Hey [ה], open on every side.
554. The letter Hey did not change from the letter Mem except in that Bina was opened in order to bring out offspring and be revealed in secret, since this letter is not revealed and is not mentioned because of the illumination of Hochma that was revealed in her. She is revealed in her place only after she bestows it to ZA and Malchut. Although she is in hiding, she is the root of the revelation, for without her, there would not be any revealing in the worlds. For this reason, when she was revealed and became open through the middle line, she became ready to give birth.
555. As long as she was not in the opening of the Hey, everything was concealed within her in the letter Mem. After she was opened, she bore offspring in the letter Hey.
556. These offspring do not come out to be revealed, except in one organ, a holy organ that was established in it, Yesod. It enters the bottom Hey of HaVaYaH, draws the abundance from Bina, and brings it to Malchut. It exits from the first Hey and enters in the bottom Hey, in that organ that was established in the bottom Hey.
557. When Bina opened and the first Hey was added, Bina was established in passion, and that organ, the righteous of the world, Yesod, was established on her. For this reason, when that organ was established in passion from Bina, the Hey was added in Abraham. When that organ was not in passion because Bina was only Mem, it is to show that he is not about to beget.
558. Abram has the letters Aleph-Bet-Reish Mem. He does not beget because the phase of Mem is blocked, and is not poised to give birth. When a Hey was added, that blocked Mem was opened, a Hey was added, and stands in that organ to make offspring. This is Abraham, Aleph-Bet-Reish Hey-Mem; this one gives birth and bears fruit.
559. For this reason, Abram does not beget, Abraham begets. Because that organ from Abram was not corrected until the Hey came, and in every place, the Hey is poised for offspring and for fruits, hence, the name caused.
560. How do we know that that organ was established only through the letter Hey? When his name was Abram, that organ was not circumcised and was not corrected. Afterwards, when the Hey came into the name Abram, that organ was corrected and circumcised, to make offspring in that bottom Hey, Malchut. As long as the upper world, Bina, was blocked in the letter Mem, that organ was not corrected and the foreskin stood without circumcision.
561. Due to the foreskin, the bottom degree, Malchut, is in the letter Dalet, which implies Dalut [meagerness] and poverty. This is so because when the upper world, Bina, is blocked in the letter Mem, the bottom world, Malchut, is in poverty, in the letter Dalet, since she has no one from whom to receive.
562. When the upper world was opened from the blocked letter Mem and the Hey was made, the circumcision was established and the foreskin was removed. When that covenant was established, these two letters exit, and two other letters enter. The two letters Dalet-Mem exit, Dalet of Malchut and Mem of Bina, and instead of them, two other letters Hey enter, one for Malchut and one for Bina.
563. Every circumcision in which Dalet-Mem [Dam (blood)] does not come out is not a circumcision. This is so because the blood of the circumcision implies the two letters Dalet Mem which exit due to the circumcision, as these two letters Dalet-Mem pass, and two other letters enter instead of them: The first Hey enters instead of the letter Mem, and the bottom Hey enters instead of the letter Dalet, and then everything is poised for giving birth.
564. It is written, “For the increase of government and for endless peace, on the throne of David and on his kingdom, to prepare it and support it.” The Mem is final in the letters “For the increase.” When the letter Mem has much governance, which increased in upper Gadlut [greatness/adulthood], since the blocked Mem has been opened and become Hey, then there is no end to peace.
“For peace” is the foundation of the world from which the foreskin has been removed, the shell that is called “the end of all flesh.” Hence, indeed there is no end to peace, since the shell called “end” has passed away, and peace, Yesod, sits on the throne of David, Malchut, and on his kingdom, to prepare it and support it with sentence and with justice.
565. All this is when the closed Mem has been opened and become a Hey. At that time, the foreskin is removed and the Dalet is removed from Malchut, as it is written, “This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made,” meaning that we must extract from him the blood of the circumcision [also “covenant”], which are these two letters.
566. It is implied about this that Abraham has the letters Aleph-Bet-Reish Hey-Mem, since the letter Mem has been opened so he would use that organ in the world below, in Malchut. This is why Isaac did not emerge from him until the foreskin had been removed from that holy, upper organ. And because of it, everything that the Creator did on earth is all in service such as the upper one, such as the root of that thing that is below, to show that He elicited all the names with sublime wisdom, such as below, all as it should be.
567. “And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: ‘This man shall not be your heir.’” Eliezer was worthy of inheriting him because he was an educated slave. “And Abram said, ‘Behold, You have given me no offspring, and a member of my household is inheriting me,’” since he looked in the wisdom of the stars and saw that he would not beget. When Abraham was circumcised, he was completely completed in the letter Hey, which was opened from the letter Mem, and the letter Dalet, too, became Hey, and then Abraham went into the path of the upper Hochma and moved from that other way of stars and signs.
568. When there was a foreskin in him, when he was uncircumcised, the Creator did not appear to him, but only in a vision, since the upper world was hidden in the letter Mem, and the lower world, Malchut, was in poverty in the letter Dalet. When the upper world opened in the letter Hey and the foreskin was removed from Abraham, and the letter Dalet was removed from the lower world, it is written, “And the Lord appeared to him.” At that time, everything was revealed to him and opened before him, which was not so before.
569. Just so, as long as righteous ones and pious ones proliferate in the world, everything is revealed and open. When King Solomon was building the Temple and all of Israel were righteous and pious, as still as wine on its yeast, everything opened and this singing was revealed above and below.
570. At that time, it is written, “To my mare among the chariots of Pharaoh, I likened you, my wife.” As the horses in Pharaoh’s chariots were armed with every weapon, you, too, were clothed in several weapons, to make war. As Pharaoh’s horses were loaded with several tools of war, with rocks, arrows, slingshots, and Kisurin, which is a kind of tool of war, all loaded so as to make war. You, too, are so; I burdened you with all sorts of tools of war, to make war against Egypt, to be sanctified through you before the eyes of everyone, and to make war against them.
571. Now I see you in a different way, in several appropriate and beautiful corrections. Your cheeks have been embellished with turtledoves, with the two letters Hey, with the first Hey and the bottom Hey, since everything has been opened and revealed to you. The first Hey, Bina, is delighted with you, and she is comely with respect to you and opens. And you, Malchut, the bottom Hey, moved from the letter Dalet and entered the letter bottom Hey, and these two have been made comely and were established for you, the two letters Hey, which are turtledoves, the written Torah and the oral Torah. It is written about them, “Your cheeks have been embellished with turtledoves.” “Your neck with strings of jewels,” with high corrections of all the sources that have been established for you.
572. This is what He reminds her with fondness and much love, since His passion is for her, and to comfort her and appease her, and to show her much love. This is why He said to her, “We will make for you turtledoves of gold with dots of silver.” Henceforth, you should add beauty upon beauty, corrections upon corrections.
