Morning Lesson July 30, 2021, Transcription
Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 1. Part 2. Inner Observation. Chapter Six. #67 ("There are ten more Sefirot in the emanated being.")
Item 67 (00:23) “There are ten more Sefirot in the emanated being ….” Twice
1. R. (01:53) The upper light expands from above downwards and then there are ten attributes of the emanate being that expand in the other direction.
Reader continues “Namely the ten Sefirot of the reflected light….”
2. R. (02:40) Meaning, we have direct light and correspondingly from beloved upwards we have reflected light. The direct light comes from the Creator to the created being. The reflected light comes from the created being to the Creator.
Item 68 (3:18) “The coarsest of all, namely phase four, is the most….” Twice
3. R. (04:50) Meaning that wherever there is greater will to receive, and that will receive can make a restriction over itself and reject all of the light that comes to it. Because it doesn't want to receive it as a receiver, but to transform the connection with the upper one into bestowing. In return, that light that it does not want to receive where it wants to connect with the giver, with the source of the light, by that, from the direct light he creates the reflected light. The reflected light is basically the light that he brings back to the connection with the creator. This is how the created being makes the same action of bestowal towards the Creator. To some extent. At least some portion of it. Opposite to what the Creator wants to bestow to him.
Item 69 (06:01) “Phase three, which is less coarse than….”
4. S. (07:28) There are two parts that we read supposedly speaking about two different things. In 68 it says that Malchut of direct light is Keter of reflected light and in 69 he says...
R. Malchut of direct light, I am now highlighting it in red, becomes the Keter of reflected light. When it reaches the Creator, in its bestowing back it builds there the aspect of Malchut of reflected light which exactly clothes the Keter of direct light. That’s it, nothing special here.
S. When we start organizing our work in this way, do we get directed light first and then we build the...?
R. If we don't make a restriction, the first restriction, but we just want to receive directly into the will to receive, the Malchut, the will to receive. In this case we feel darkness. But, if we make a restriction and we begin to receive only on the condition that the upper light enters us to that extent, then we can bestow to the Creator. It turns out that our Malchut becomes, from the Malchut of direct light, the Keter of reflected light. This way we begin to bestow in return to the Creator. Here there has to be restriction, screen and reflected light and bestowing back to the source of light. Just as it wants to bestow to us, we want to bestow to it. Only this way we can be in contact with the Creator. This is called “me to my beloved and my beloved is for me”. The beloved one is the Creator. Only through this reciprocal way when the created being wants to bestow to the Creator, to that extent it discovers the Creator exists and wants to bestow to him.
5. S. (10:52) If the reflected light in Malchut prepares as the Keter, so it already got the intention towards the Creator?
R. Yes.
S. So it is the landlord already?
R. Yes.
Item 61 (11:33) “It follows that there are two discernments of ….” Twice
6. R. (13:28) I don't know what I have to explain here. There is the restricted Malchut that has a screen. To the extent that it has a screen it becomes the Keter of reflected light and from Malchut of circles it becomes the Malchut of straightness. Then she turns back to the Creator like the Creator wants to bestow to her. Then she discovers the connection with Him. The Creator bestows to her and she wants to bestow in return to the Creator. So there has to be a restriction here, screen, reflective light. Then that circular vessel that the Creator created became a vessel of straightness.
Item 62 (14:19) “The reason why the light strikes and wants to enter….”
7. R. (15:52) The emanation, by his desire, draws the upper lights according to his desire. It stops the upper light, called a restriction. According to his intention, he wants to feel the upper light in the opposite way. Meaning that it can bestow in return to the Creator to the extent that it receives the upper light, but above the restriction, after he restricted Himself and disconnected the direct light with the Creator. Then it can receive the light in order to bestow contentment to the Creator. Just like the guest and the host. The guest says, 'I don't want to eat, I don't want to receive, I don't want anything, but I do this in order to bestow to the host, then I am willing to receive for you.’ Then his desire works differently. It becomes bestowing to the Creator, to the host. Like Baal HaSulam writes there. The previous vessels of reception were not erased. They were just disqualified from being vessels of reception. The desire does not disappear. The desire cannot become purified. It just stops functioning as in the previous mode and now it becomes the opposite. To the extent that the created being is capable of rising above its desire, as the greatness of the Creator is higher than the greatness of his ego, to that extent he begins to discover the Creator. The host in order to bestow to him. This is how it happens. This is the state that we need to achieve. Think about how to realize it.
Item 63 (18:06) “At the very moment when the emanated being….”
8. R. (18:39) Meaning, after the created being says, ‘I don't want to receive anything’ and makes a restriction. Then he decides that I am going to receive only for the benefit of connection with the host. Then the upper light is drawn to him.
Reader continues: “By the same manner when the emanated thing….”
9. R. (19:47) Even though the emanated being draws to light after he restricted the light and he doesn't want to receive and he decided that he is going to receive but that is going to be in order to bestow then the upper light is drawn to him and we call this the expansion of the upper light When we say the expansion of the upper light to the emanated being he means the attraction of the emanated being, attracting the light. This is a big difference because I am going to be something I've decided that I'm not going to receive for myself but now that I receive it's against the previous decision, against my desire that I am now receiving it cautiously only to the extent that it can be in order to bestow and that makes it a new kind of extension for expansion.
10. S. (20:57) Malchut stops receiving the light or the pleasure?
R. Malchut stops receiving even though the Creator wants to give because she wants to be in connection and equivalent to form with the Creator and not receiving pleasures, the question is Malchut plans does she want to turn herself into receiving pleasures or bestowing to the Creator, it turns out that she doesn't want the pleasure because it moved her away from the Creator and she specifically wants to bestow to the Creator, this is why she performs the restriction and the previous light departs and now she calculates as much as she can use the upper light in order to bestow.
S. The question is canning the Malchut expel the light as it seems it fulfills everything all the time?
R. It all depends upon the desire, after the first restriction of the light that depends upon the created being and the Creator agrees with the created being's decision and sustains the upper light in such a way that it won't go against the desire, of the created being, you don’t want it so you don’t receive, you do want to receive in order to bestow then you can, according to that you can receive. The Creator agrees with the created being and what the created being decides.
11. S. (23:09) At what point after the created being restricts itself does it understand, it wants to receive anyway?
R. We are speaking about actions that happened one after the other but the decision is to reach bestowing to the Creator, it is before the restriction, the upper light that fills Malchut and gives the Malchut everything that it has in it, it gives Malchut a feeling as much as Creator loves her and wants to fill her. Malchut, when she receives all of the bestowing of the Creator to her, she feels that the Creator's attitude towards her is infinite love. This is what awakens her to restrict herself only to bestow back to the Creator, this is why when she decides to restrict herself so it is clear to her that after the restriction and by the restriction she can use the upper light and the desire of the lower one in a way that she will bestow contentment to the Creator under the condition that she received the upper light by the measure that the Creator will give. Also, that the lower one wants to give back to the Creator, the whole plan is already in the decision of the first restriction, otherwise the first restriction is written that it is the worst of the worst, that it's supposedly that created being disregards, rejects what it gets from the Creator. That is why we reach a state, this is what we learn that the created being, Malchut of Ein Sof restricts herself but under the hope she can bestow to the Creator.
12. S. (25:55) Is there a qualitative difference between direct light and reflected light?
R. We are speaking of direct light and reflected light speaking about the light that appears against the desire to receive of the created being, that the created being makes the light of pleasure for himself, the light of pleasure to the Creator and by this he enjoys himself. He wants to enjoy bestowing just as the Creator enjoys it so he makes a restriction, screen and reflected light and that is what he ascribes to the Creator, otherwise he can't bestow and he would remain a receiver separated from the Creator.
13. S. (27:09) Why does he say the Malchut of circles is restricted if there are no circles there?
R. There is Malchut of circles when she restricts herself, she becomes by her choice the Malchut of straightness, that I am only receiving to the extent that I can bestow.
14. S. (28:02) The first action of bestowing that the created being makes is that the sense of Keter in the Kli?
R. Ask exactly what we are studying about and we will advance quickly.
15. S. (29:09) It says the upper light is that complete rest and he always wants to give pleasure so I want to ask about attracting the light, what am I ultimately attracting when I am disconnected from the 10 and when I am connected to the 10 what does it mean to draw the light?
R. If you are not with the 10 you can't even draw the light, that is it, simple, make it clear, not reflected light or clothing the direct light or bestowing to him, you can't only to the extent that you are connected in the 10 and with the 10 together working towards the upper light that you can reveal otherwise you can't reveal the upper light.
Item 64 (30:17) “The part of the light that should have entered phase….”
16. S. (32:03) How can Malchut enlarge the receiving vessel to receive more upper light?
R. To the extent that she rejects the upper light, by this she increases her vessels of reception.
17. S. (32:36) Can we say that the light comes to the same desire that's already with the intention?
R. Yes.
Item 70 (33:00) “Malchut consists of all ten Sefirot of reflected light.”
Item 71 “The refinement of the screen divides phase four ….”
18. S. (36:10) With regards to the example of the host and the guest the host doesn't just give his relation to the guests but also the food and the guest only gives the relation back. Is it just that or is it the pleasure and the relation?
R. We are scrutinizing the light and the light that fills the desire. This is why restricting the desire and afterwards receiving the desire, the pleasure, is exactly equal to the giving of the pleasure because I can only receive for the sake of the host. Supposedly I am giving him pleasure and he is revealing towards me that all of the pleasure that he is enjoying by filling himself he is enjoying by giving me so that if I take myself and say from now on, I am willing only to fill myself for you. It turns out that just as I am filling myself with his relation, I am filling him by my relation to the extent I receive direct light clothed in reflected light to that extent I can fill him, the Creator, with my relation, with my reflected light. Then, by this, we are completely equal, this has called me from my beloved and my beloved for me.
S. Is the attitude itself already pleasurable?
R. No more than attitude, relation, nothing else changes. We learned from the Creator the extent of the measure of bestowing and according to that we work, that is all the wisdom of Kabbalah, this is all of the created beings in this world need to do to reach the degree of the Creator.
19. S. (39:03) Can we say that Keter of the Malchut is the screen where the light comes back to the Malchut?
R. Keter of Malchut, that Malchut of direct light becomes Keter of reflected light. She receives because she changes her attitude to as much as she receives, to as much as she bestows, meaning she restricts her desire towards the direct light and says I am now only relating to the Creator's relation towards me. This is why I have no connection to the pleasure in the direct light but my relation towards that direct light is how I can bestow to the Creator with it. She changes her attitude completely from the attitude towards the pleasure to the attitude towards the Creator as the Creator becomes more important than the pleasure. When you come into a restaurant you care about what you're eating, if you go to a friend's you want to connect to the friend and there's a completely different flavor than what you are taking from him. That by being with him you want to bestow to him and in the restaurant, you don't want to bestow to anybody, you just want to receive all the money that you paid.
S. When can we start talking about the birth of the created being?
R. Wait, we still don't have impregnation or anything.
20. S. (41:59) The ten Sefirot of Malchut are spread out outside of her in the reflected light?
R. You can say Malchut is in all the 10 Sefirot.
S. Let's say there is a screen over the coarseness level of phase two. The direct light comes in first and then there's the screen or first the direct light is clothed in the reflected light and then the inner light comes in?
R. After the restriction, the direct light before it enters Malchut has to be clothed with the reflected light of Malchut.
S. In all of coarseness?
R. Yes, otherwise, how do I know to receive in order to bestow, this is called that first we clothe the reflected light with all of the direct light and then the direct light and the reflected light in it, or better to say the reflected light with the direct light in it, they both invert and enter Malchut.
21. S. (43:44) What is my reflected light?
R. Your reflected light?
S. Yes.
R. You do not want to receive direct pleasures from the Creator and you want to perform actions that for certain will bring you in connection with the Creator, meaning that you don't enjoy the Creator more than you can give him pleasure. That all of his pleasure will be that you give him joy.
22. S. (44:35) Can you explain the purifying of something of the screen?
R. We didn't learn that yet, the refinement of this screen is when the Creator keeps pressing on the created being. It turns out that the Creator that keeps pressing on the created being, he forces him to stop receiving in order to bestow because the created being can't receive any more in order to bestow, it would be in order to receive, this is why he stops. He is receiving in order to bestow and goes out from the restriction; this is called that he finished that Partzuf.
23. S. (45:58) You say the screen is the intention, what is the refinement, is this the accuracy of the intention?
R. Yes, correct.
S. If I don't have a screen, I always try to fill the deficiencies so the process of purifying the screen means I'm looking for the deficiencies the Creator to fill?
R. No, the refinement of the screen comes to Atzilut, the next Partzuf. we will learn about it, we didn't talk about it, there's a lot of things here.
24. S. (47:05) Malchut becomes Keter?
R. That is your question from 2 hours ago?
S. The question was posted when we started studying TES.
R. Okay.
S. Malchut to become Keter, does this necessitate connecting the 10 different desires into one because we realize we're just a desire to receive and this way we become bestowing to the Creator in the process of conception?
R. We are not speaking about the connection between these actions in Ibur yet. They asked a few times and I refused to answer. If you want to help, ask questions that help everyone.
S. So the question is when Malchut becomes ….?
R. When she discovers she must turn to the Creator and she has to force to restrict herself and after this she's willing to not receive anything, no connection to spirituality, not anything. She decides on what calculation she has to go through. She decides beyond that I don't want anything not in this world and not in the next world, that she gives up on anything, just one thing that you want to bestow back to the Creator. Like he is bestowing to me and I want to do this because in the restriction, because of the shame that I am different from you, she feels that specifically by the way that she is giving to him filling myself by this I am filling him. Very special work on behalf of the lower one. Like the baby next to the mother's breast with such an intention that he starts receiving a feeding from her, the milk only under the condition that by this he is giving her joy, that pleasure the mother will have by feeling the baby in such a way is related to the breastfeeding.
S. With your permission, our studying method, I think I asked you in the past about integration of different materials that we study, is there a point in trying to combine what we learned in the first part of what we learn now, do you make it easier to understand the material?
R. That is correct but we have to see if it can connect or not or if it will confuse people or not as there are a lot of things that we have to take into consideration. This is why I don't like people that right away start jumping into Ibur because half an hour ago they heard about it. It is not serious, we have to study, they're deeper and hear deeper and then we can combine one with the other.
