Daily Morning Lesson: July 13, 2025
Part 1: Baal HaSulam - Shamati 24 - He Will Save Them from the Hand of the Wicked
Reader: Dear friends, in the first part of the lesson we are going to learn from Rav’s lesson from October 17, 2021, from the writings of Baal HaSulam, the article is Shamati 24, “He Will Save Them from the Hand of the Wicked.”
M. Laitman: Yes, we see that all the articles of Shamati and all the writings of Kabbalah in general are intended to direct the person to connection with the Creator. The connection comes through the equivalence of qualities. Man has to change towards the Creator to the extent he’s similar to the Creator, the more he will be considered Adam which means Domeh, similar to the Creator. So the writings of Kabbalah and especially the Shamati articles aim us towards that. What should we observe? We learn that Kabbalists explain to us that the Creator is good that does good. He’s opposite to us, we’re opposite. He created that deliberately, that our nature is a will to receive, to benefit ourselves only, and it works within us on all levels in all the ways. Because outside of us there’s only the Creator. It turns out that man always feels the Creator and if he has a bad feeling then he is called a villain, because he’s opposite in his qualities to the Creator and that’s why he feels bad. That’s why he’s considered evil. To the extent that we come closer to the Creator in our qualities through the equivalence of our qualities with those of the Creator, then we will feel ourselves in a good way. And that’s our path. The more we can each and every moment detect within us the evil forces opposite to the Creator, and the more we try to want opposite forces, good forces, adhesion with the Creator, accordingly we’ll activate a prayer, a request, that the Creator will change our qualities, so that instead of bad qualities we’ll have good qualities. Since we exist within the Creator and we therefore have to feel ourselves only in goodness, this means that if we feel ourselves badly, then we don’t need to ask the Creator to change and make things good for us. Rather we have to ask Him to help us change ourselves and then we’ll feel the Creator in true form, as the Good Who Does Good to all. This is a very big difference in perception of reality, perception of the Creator that the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us. That it’s not the Creator that needs to change, rather it is man. And he has to ask the Creator to change him, only. Because as we learn he has to understand that from the Creator only good comes to him, and if he feels opposite, this means that our qualities are not similar to those of the Creator. Let's read this short article and then we’ll discuss it and ask questions.
Reading: (06:10) Baal HaSulam, Shamati #24. He Will Save Them from the Hand of the Wicked (Twice)
I heard on Av 5, July 25, 1944, at the completion of The Zohar
It is written, “You who love the Lord, hate evil … He will save them from the hand of the wicked.” He asks, “What is the connection between ‘hate evil’ and ‘He will save them from the hand of the wicked?’”
In order to understand this, we must first bring the words of our sages, “The world was created either for complete righteous or for complete evil.” He asks, “Is it worthwhile to create the world for complete evil, but not worthwhile for incomplete righteous?”
He answers that from the perspective of the Creator, there is nothing in the world that has two meanings. It is only from the perspective of the receivers, according to the sensation of the receivers. This means that either the receivers feel a good taste in the world, or they feel a terribly bitter taste in the world, since with every act they do, they calculate it in advance when they do it, since no act is done purposelessly. Either they want to improve their present state or to harm someone. But purposeless things are not worthy of a purposeful operator.
Hence, those who accept the modes of conduct of the Creator in the world determine it as good or bad depending on how they feel: as either good or bad. Because of this, “you who love the Lord,” who understand that the purpose of creation was to do good to His creations, in order for them to come to feel it, they understand that it is received precisely by Dvekut [adhesion] and nearing the Creator.
Thus, if they feel any remoteness from the Creator, they call it “bad.” In that state, one considers oneself evil, since an intermediary state does not exist in reality. In other words, either one feels the existence of the Creator and His guidance, or one imagines that “The earth is given into the hand of the wicked.”
Since one feels about himself that he is a man of truth, meaning that he cannot deceive himself and say that he feels when he does not feel, hence, he immediately begins to cry to the Creator to have mercy on him and deliver him from the authority of the Sitra Achra [other side] and from all the foreign thoughts. Because he is crying earnestly, the Creator hears his prayer. (Perhaps this is the meaning of “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him in truth.”) At that time, “He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.”
As long as one does not feel one’s true self, meaning the measure of one’s evil to a sufficient level to awaken him to cry to the Creator out of the affliction that he feels with his recognition of evil, he is still unworthy of redemption since he has not yet revealed the Kli [vessel] for hearing the prayer, called “from the bottom of the heart.”
This is so because one still thinks that there is some good in him, meaning he does not descend to the bottom of the heart. In the bottom of the heart, he thinks that he still has some good, and he does not notice with what love and fear he relates to the Torah and the Mitzvot [commandments]. This is why he does not see the truth.
M. Laitman: (10:46) I think we need to read again, and bit by bit we’ll hear some questions. The article is very fundamental and to the point. Like I said the before, the article, the issue is that I need to feel that I exist within the Creator and I can’t feel Him, I don’t have similar qualities. If I have an environment, a Ten, then I connect to them, to the extent I connect to them, to the extent that I’m included in them, then I nullify myself towards them, to that extent through the Ten, I begin to sense the Creator. So, it turns out that I’m inside the Ten, to the extent that I connect to the Ten, I feel them, I receive their qualities and our connection together enables me to feel the Creator who’s standing behind the friends, behind the Ten. And this is how we come to adhesion with the Creator. This is what we need to examine and always envision to ourselves and thus advance. Read again.
Re-Reading: Shamati 24
Question (ITA 4): (17:45) Why do we feel negative qualities, that they are different from the qualities of the Creator?
M. Laitman: So that we will exist in an independent way, be facing the Creator but in the same form as the Creator, the form of bestowal, and then we can bestow to Him as He wants to bestow us. That we will take upon ourselves the example of the Creator that will make us human, Adam, similar to the Creator. Adam comes from the word, Domeh [similar]. How to do it? The Creator created a desire opposite to Himself, He’s the will to bestow and He created a will to receive. And we maintain the will to receive, we just clothe it with an intention of how to use the it in order to bestow. Meaning, we take the will to receive, in the form of wanting only to receive, we restrict it, and then we put on some garment on it, an intention; we want to bestow to the Creator just as much as He wants to bestow to us. That’s our whole work until we reveal our entire will to receive, and on top of all those desires that appear, we can clothe them with an intention to bestow. With this clothing, with this intention we will be similar to the Creator, like the Creator. Not in our nature, our nature is opposite, it’s a will to receive. but according to the intention. And that’s how we will exactly realize the law of equivalence of form with the Creator.
Question (Moscow 7): (20:13) In this article Baal HaSulam writes that in order to be able to raise a true prayer to the Creator so the Creator will surely answer, we need to have a vessel called the bottom of the heart. How can we obtain that state, bottom one’s heart? How not to make any mistakes here?
M. Laitman: As I said before we started reading, we have to depict to ourselves that we exist within the Creator, There is None Else Besides Him, and that He’s Good That Does Good. Therefore, whatever we receive, whatever we feel, whatever’s depicted within us in our thoughts and desires, it all comes from the Creator. And the Creator is Good That Does Good, so if I don’t receive Good That Does Good, first of all I feel bad, and then I need to ask the Creator, there’s None Else Besides Him, I have no one else to turn to and I can’t change myself. I didn’t create myself nor can I change myself. I can only turn to the Creator and ask Him to help me change. Not in my will to receive, but that I’ll add to what the Creator created in me, an intention to bestow. That in all of my desires, inclinations, qualities, I want to work with an intention to bestow. This is how we need to advance. So the changes I wish to happen in me, it’s not in the desires, but in the intentions above the desires. And according to the equivalence of my intentions to bestow to the Creator, I’ll discover that He wants to bestow to me. And then through my intentions and His, that’s where we meet and that’s where I discover my adhesion with the Creator.
Student: But if through a certain amount of time where I turn to the Creator in prayer, He still did not reveal in me the correct intention, does that mean that I’m asking not actively enough, or I’m not connecting it to the friends enough, or simply He doesn’t give it to me because He doesn’t see it fit to give it?
M. Laitman: On the Creator’s part there’s no thought, no calculation, it all depends on us. The Creator is absolute Good That Does Good to all. On His part there’s no delay, He’s not waiting to give, or leaving it for later, no such calculations, it all depends on us. If we are ready, we receive, if we’re not ready, we have no place to receive a different attitude from the Creator, because in every moment His attitude to us is only to advance us towards adhesion.
Question (Moscow 4): (24:44) The ego seemingly protects itself and doesn’t let us see the evil, to go to the bottom of the heart. I can’t even ask about it sincerely. What to do?
M. Laitman: The problem is the lack of work in the group. A person as an individual can’t discover these things. He’s in a Ten, as we learn. Maybe I’ll even draw it. (Rav drawing and explaining). So here inside is man. Around man is the group, and around that is the Creator. That’s how it is. Now, man cannot penetrate through the group, he can’t skip over the group, he has to make the contact with the group, and then after that he reaches the Creator. Why? He doesn’t have the vessels, he doesn’t have ten Sefirot in order to connect with the Creator. He is an individual here, and that’s his Malchut. He has to nullify before the group, which is the first nine Sefirot, and then when he has ten complete Sefirot, then he reaches the Creator. Very simple. These are laws of nature, otherwise it doesn’t work. You can see it from the shattering of the Kli of Adam HaRishon, from what we learn from the psychology of perception of reality, whatever you want. Ultimately that’s how it works - if we don’t connect with the group, we don’t reach the revelation of the Creator.
Question (Turkiye 2): (27:57) How do we feel the essence of the lack of the Creator?
M. Laitman: That too depends on the Ten. From the study and from connecting to friends, by envy, lust and honor I increase my will to receive, and even if I don’t have a great will to receive required for the Creator, my ego is very heavy. I prefer to quietly remain in my ego and not to go into states where I suffer. And yet, I have to work on this. When I am in the Ten, the Ten influences me through envy, lust and honor and by that I do wish to make all kinds of actions, even to incorporate with them, and all of that is in order to reach the Creator. It really turns out that bestowing to the group, incorporating with the group, it’s all stages that I have to do in order to get the vessels to be included in the Creator, otherwise I won’t have the vessels.
Question (Kyiv 1): (30:00) As I understand from your words, the way to check each state is only through the adhesion to the group and the Creator. About the test itself, what does it mean that I am in adhesion with the group and the Creator? I’m connecting certain qualities of mine. How I do it?
M. Laitman: You do it from starting from annulment. That you annul yourself first towards the group, and then already it turns out that you move from your individuality to the group, you become included in the group. And with the group you already face the Creator, otherwise, you have no connection with the Creator. That’s why from the love of the created beings to the love of the Creator, and all these other sayings of the Kabbalists.
Student: It’s clear the annulment is the basic action but how to go to adhesion with the Creator?
M. Laitman: Within the group, when you’re included in the group, in that vessel you begin to reveal the Creator. It’s not just some condition and then you can hop to the Creator, you can jump to the Creator. You have nowhere to jump and no one to feel. You have to make the vessel where you can feel an outer external influence which is the Creator, and you can do that only by becoming included in desires external to you. They’re egoistic desires too, it doesn’t matter. You become included in them, you nullify yourself, and so to the extent that you nullify yourself towards the group, to that extent you can feel how the Creator is also nullified towards all of creation. Inside the group you start to discover everything that’s happening. It works in an accurate system, it’s a natural system, you can’t change it. If we realize it, we will receive the revelation of the Creator, and otherwise we won’t. The group is the vessel to reveal the Creator. Because you are just one point, one pixel, you can’t do anything. You need to have at least a few, and preferably ten.
Question (ITA 3): (33:16) What’s the meaning exactly to accept the ways of the providence of the Creator?
M. Laitman: The paths of providence of the Creator appear in the person to the extent that he nullifies, that he annuls himself and he wants to rise above his ego, but how does he practically do it? To the extent that he nullifies himself and becomes included in the group. Even though you can say that the group is more egoistic than me, but I still nullify myself. Then it turns out that when I become included in them, I become like the Malchut that’s included in the first 9 Sefirot. I accept their egoistic desires, thoughts, whatever they’ve got, through my annulment as the Malchut towards the first 9 Sefirot. It turns out that I have a Kli, a vessel where I am not with my ego, but on the contrary, I’m above my ego through my annulment, and in that vessel I can reveal the Creator. The rest of the friends, what about them? Each one according to the effort that he does, the same thing. It’s possible that I’ve made an effort and I feel the revelation of the Creator on level 8, someone nullifies himself more and feels the Creator on level 15 and so on, all the way to 125.
Student: When we receive foreign thoughts do we need to ask to annul them, to cancel them?
M. Laitman: Not to nullify ever, no. We don’t cancel the foreign thoughts, we ask to be above them, connected between us and the Creator. All of these alien thoughts are called, I created the evil inclination. It’s what the Creator created, and He created it in order for us to rise above it. We don’t delete them, we don’t cancel them, we rise above them higher and higher.
Question (ITA 1): (36:13) You say that we need to annul, but if I see that if the Creator is Good Who Does Good, why do I need to think that me, a created being created from Him there will be anything evil? Why can’t I search for the solution within me and I have to look for it in the group?
M. Laitman: You will peek into your ego. You’re just a piece of ego, what can you find there? Nothing. We have to discover something above our ego. So when I’m included in the group that gives me a springboard for jumping above my ego. To the extent that I appreciate the friends and I want to be bonded with them, even though they are egoistic, like the students of Rabbi Yossi ben Kisma from our allegory, our story, it doesn’t matter. If I nullify myself towards them, they become for me this vessel that I build, so in that vessel I discover my annulment towards an external desire - their’s, towards the Creator. Then specifically in that vessel I discover the Creator. So where is the Creator revealed? In the vessel of the friends. But they’re broken. True, they are broken too, but I nullify myself. To the extent I nullify myself, I discover the Creator. I don’t discover the qualities of them, I discover the Creator to the extent of my annulment towards them. Otherwise, I have no foothold in the upper force, that’s the only way. The group, as I drew here, it’s not just a device that I use and then I go on forward to the Creator's level, no. That’s my inclination, but in truth, my meeting with the Creator is when I discover the Creator inside the group, to the extent that I am included in it. Not only the Creator but the whole general desire that exists in reality on all levels - still, vegetative, animal and human, all the Creator created. It becomes the matter, the substance where I discover the Creator, He can’t appear any other way. Understood? So, it’s worthwhile for us to nullify ourselves towards the group as much as possible with the intention that we’re working towards the Creator. And inside the group each and every one builds his observation of the group in such a way that the Creator can appear there.
