Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot. #40

Reader: Rav Yisrael, welcome to my lecture. Hello we're reading from Baal HaSulam, Introduction to the Study of the Ten Sefirot, and we are in item 40.

Reading: (00:17) Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot. #40

40) First, we must understand the words of our sages (Megillah 6b), who said, “I labored and found—believe; I did not labor and found—do not believe.”

We must ask about “I labored and found.” They seem to contradict one another since labor refers to work and exertion that one gives in return for any desired possession. For an important possession, one makes great efforts, and for a lesser possession, one makes fewer efforts.

Its opposite is finding. Its conduct is to come to a person completely absentmindedly and without any preparation in labor, toil, and price. Hence, how can you say, “I labored and found”? And if there is effort here, it should have said, “I labored and purchased” or “I labored and was awarded,” etc., and not “I labored and found.”

M. Laitman: Yes, so that means, the question is, why is it written, I have labored and found? Because these two things are completely contradicting. If I labor, I exert, so why did I found, if I find something that has nothing to do with it, to exertion? So what is he continuing in 41?

Reader: 41,

Reading: (02:25) Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot. #41

41) The Zohar writes about the text “Those who seek Me shall find Me,” and asks, “Where does one find the Creator?” They said that the Creator is found only in the Torah. Also, regarding the verse, “Indeed, You are a God who hides,” that the Creator hides Himself in the holy Torah.

We must understand their words properly. It seems as though the Creator is hidden only in corporeal things and conducts, and in all the futilities of this world, which are outside the Torah. Thus, how can you say the opposite, that He hides Himself only in the Torah?

There is also the general meaning, that the Creator hides Himself in a way that He must be sought; why does He need this concealment? And also, “All who seek Him shall find Him,” which we understand from the verse, “Those who seek Me shall find Me.” We must thoroughly understand this seeking and this finding, what are they and why are they.

M. Laitman: Yes, so for now, let's hear some questions. We have no questions. No questions, but, Dudi, there's a first question from Tel Raviv, or we can keep going. Well, let's hear them.

Question (Tel Aviv 1): (04:20) is the concealment uniform for all created beings, or only the sensations, the feelings are individual?

M. Laitman: That's something that we, it should be more inside. So, the question will stand before us.

Question (PT 31): (05:03) What is the reason that a person needs to want to find the Creator?

M. Laitman: Again.

Student: Why does a person need to want to find the Creator? What's the reason he wants to find Him?

M. Laitman: Because that's how he feels, that he's standing on the path, that his connection with the Creator is something that needs to be solved. Then a person reaches the answers to all the questions.

Question (Turkiye 1): (06:00) What does it mean, those who seek me shall find me? What does it mean to seek the Creator and to find Him? How does it AHAP?

M. Laitman: That's what he says. The Creator is concealed, and we, in order to find Him, need to search. Where could He be? And through what can we reveal Him?

Question (W Heb 1): (06:47) The matter of the contradiction and the finding, is it because finding is not directly connected to the labor, it's in the hands of the Creator, and not necessarily according to the work, or there is a direct connection?

M. Laitman: No, it's really everything's connected to one another. In order for us to go directly and correctly from the question to the solution, to the answer. So we see that. This is how we are asked.

Question (Kyiv 1): (07:45) Throughout this formula, I labored and I found, when we're in the ten What is the dependence on labor to find the Creator? Is it direct or not?

M. Laitman: We'll scrutinize that now.

Question (W PT 6): (08:18) What does it mean to find the Creator in the Torah, and how does it relate to finding the Creator in the connection between us?

M. Laitman: To find the Creator in the Torah means to find Him as belonging and filling all of reality.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (09:01) what is our understanding that we want to reveal the Creator in the Ten? Does it not need to be in the feeling? What is this understanding?

M. Laitman: This understanding has to be in your feeling.

Student: So, how do we come each time in the Ten to feel that the Creator hides and we wish to reveal Him?

M. Laitman: Because it all happens in the feeling. The Creator is hiding. We need to discover the concealment.

Student: So, how do we come to the feeling, the understanding that He's hiding in the connection between us? We always make exercises and workshops. We meet in the Zoom meetings during the day. How do we really come to the feeling that the Creator is hiding? That we're truly coming to this deficiency that we want to reveal Him in our connection? We can sometimes revolve around our own tales. And, you know, another day goes by and another one we need to find the Creator.

M. Laitman: Right. I guess our demand still isn't whole.

Student: So, how do we come to this whole demand, complete demand?

M. Laitman: That's exactly what we're learning about right now.

Question (W Rus): (10:40) We have two questions. You said that we can only find the Creator in the Ten. And we are already in the Ten, meaning we have to build our prayer correctly and include fear in it. So, we have the right conduit, meaning we raise a prayer to the Creator. We thank the Creator for this opportunity. And then we ask Him to connect me with the Ten. But we're already in the Ten. And then we ask that He will be revealed, that He will make contact with us. Really hitting that point, crying, I don't know what needs to do to bring you conTenment. Is that the right direction?

M. Laitman: Let's start from this, and then we'll keep going.

Question (W Rus): (11:43) What's the connection between the longing for revelation and concealment?

M. Laitman: The extent of the concealment awakens the pressure, the desire to reveal.

Student: If we can say that the force of longing is actually the axis on which we close the revelation.

M. Laitman: Yes,.

Question (Unity 2): (12:35) when there's a feeling of infinite good from the Creator who exerts for us and gives us such sources, not just sources, but a great Rav who explains to us everything, and transforms us, admits to us everything, gives himself to this, and great joy comes from that, for the friends, for the world clean. That brings joy to the Creator, that's...

M. Laitman: That will be clarified. It will all be clarified to us.

Question (W Moscow): (13:20) What does it mean that the Creator hides himself in the Torah?

M. Laitman: It means that when we study the Torah, we start seeing through which vessels, through which questions we can come closer to him and connect to him.

Question (W Haifa 5): (14:10) In our attempt to connect to the Ten, how to feel in your reason that you really found and that you're not just given to your ego?

M. Laitman: You have to keep searching, and then you'll see if you truly found, or if you're just confused.

Question (W Turkiye 7): (14:41) how to find and see the Creator behind everything, behind everything in reality?

M. Laitman: If you'll be directed to that, towards the Creator, so gradually you'll see how he is revealed, behind all concealments that he builds between him and us.

Question (W Turkiye 7): (15:28) what inner quality MAN needs to develop so as to reveal or move the Creator from concealment to revelation? What inner quality does a person need to develop to reveal the Creator and not so the Creator won't be hidden?

M. Laitman: Actually, what we need is to release ourselves from the wall to receive. And then the connection between us and the Creator will be in the wall to bestow, and then we can discover him.

Question (Lithuania 1): (16:45) How to connect how we look at the friends, look at creation, in relation to creation? We see this simultaneously as one thing or one thing after another thing?

M. Laitman: Your observation towards a friend becomes more direct than each one of us, it becomes more clear, closer. In a way that through the connection with the friends, I gradually come closer to the connection with the Creator.

Question (W Almaty 1): (17:43) What about, Leibert, and I have found, if the finding is opposite to what we expect, what is the difference? Does it mean that the Creator appears in the most unexpected things, unexpected places, as a result of working in the Ten, and we don't expect a reward? And how to reach that in the Ten?

M. Laitman: We need to try and reach such a connection in the Ten that our connection will be calibrated towards revelation of the Creator, the feeling of the Creator, in a way that we can really feel precisely what's hiding there in the connection between us. That's how He's revealed.

Question (Unity 3): (18:43) In item 40, it says, I labored and found belief. I didn't labor and find, don't believe. And to understand the words of these SAGes, that's first, and then we have to understand how to make sure the Torah doesn't become the potion of death. So I would like to ask whether I labored and I found...

M. Laitman: We have to try and reveal that condition that I've labored and found, yes, believe or don't believe, to such an extent that we'll see that the labor, the exertion, the effort that we can invest in order to reach the feeling of revelation it's proportional to our desire. And that's why this question is revealed here, I've labored and found. How can that be? Meaning, how can it be that I'm investing all my forces in order to reveal the Creator? And I still have an expectation that He will be revealed. That's what he wrote in item 40.

M. Laitman (Source Text/Commentary): (21:00) And in 41, he says that

it's writTenin the Zohar, that when my created beings will want to discover me, they surely will. That it can only be revealed in the Torah,

and not in any other place or any other effort. That only

in the Torah, the Creator is hiding,

meaning He created the Torah in a way

that is where He was concealed,

that is where those conditions for His concealment are. Afterwards, in 41, he explains

that the Creator is concealing Himself,

for what? For us to feel a disconnection from the Creator, and start demanding him, demanding from him how he could be revealed to us, how he can help us. And this is where this question comes from, that

the ones who are searching for me will find me. We have to understand thoroughly what that question is, what that plea is.

Student: We need to scrutinize that.

RABASH (Source Text/Commentary): (23:31) Yes, but wait a second, I wanted to add, in 42, I can read, right?

Indeed, you should know that the reason for our great distance from the Creator, and that we are so prone to transgress His will, is for but one reason, which became the source of all the torment and suffering we suffer. And for all the sins and the mistakes that we fail in.

Here's the reason why we're so far from the Creator, why we don't feel Him. That question must be in us. And then he continues, in 42, in the middle.

Clearly, by removing that reason, we will instantly be rid of any sorrow or pain. We will immediately be granted adhesion with Him.

Meaning, if we're asking precisely according to this question, then the Creator is revealed. We will feel Him in our desire to discover Him.

So he says, that

know that the reason,

the original reason,

is in the lack of our understanding of His guidance over His creations, that we do not understand Him properly.

We don't understand that He is in us, aiming us, controlling us. Well, we'll see.

Reader: Should we continue?

M. Laitman: Yes, we're in 43, right?

Reader: Yes, item 43.

Reading: (26:43) Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot. #43

43) If, for example, the Creator were to establish open Providence with His creations in that, for instance, anyone who eats something forbidden would choke on the spot, and anyone who performs a Mitzva would discover such wonderful pleasures in it, like the finest pleasures in this corporeal world, then 1) what fool would even contemplate tasting something forbidden, knowing that he would immediately lose his life as a result, just as one does not contemplate jumping into a fire? 2) Also, what fool would leave any Mitzva without performing it as quickly as possible, just as one cannot retire from or linger with a great corporeal pleasure that comes into his hand, without receiving it as quickly as he can? Thus, if Providence were open to us, all the people in the world would be complete righteous.

M. Laitman: Meaning, it's clear to us that if providence were revealed, then no one would do anything against the Creator. That's obvious to anyone.

Question (Japan): (29:04) can I achieve corrections if I have no interest in reading books such as the Ten  of Ra and the Zohar, but I participate in morning lessons and connecting with friends? What is the function of my intellect when studying this test?

M. Laitman: You, in your connection with the friends, you have to read, understand the preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah. And the study of the Ten Sefirot. A little bit. But mostly, most important is the preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah. And then you'll feel how much you're connected to that. And all your study will be aimed at solving, deciphering the connection of the Creator and all of reality. This means that you will want to connect to your friends in the group only in order to understand what the Creator wants to tell you. In this excerpt we just went through. And this is how you'll come to the understanding of the text. All right? Okay.

Question (W Unity): (31:55) In this state, a person should yearn to feel who he's bringing joy to with the Creator's relation to him, or should he try and Cleanse  his yearning?

M. Laitman: MAn needs to ask questions and try to look for their answer in those sources that we read. Okay, next.

Question (W Turkiye 4): (32:45) When you look at the tens of the World Kli. Do you think we are able to overcome the concealment? And in which way do you see the tens?

M. Laitman: I see our tens as getting closer to revelation of concealment, in that we will come to the revelation of the Creator. That exists in me as a fact. Okay.

Question (W Moscow 6): (33:41) You said that to the extent that there is concealment, so the yearning to reveal comes up too. So can we use that concealment in the tense somehow?

M. Laitman: No, this is still early for us. We don't completely control the forms of concealment and revelation. No. But soon we'll start using that. Women Rehovot 1.

Question (W Rehovot 1): (34:17) what does it mean, connection with the Creator? How to Cleanse  this connection with the Creator between us? Where is that expressed, the true connection with the Creator?

M. Laitman: True connection with the Creator comes to a person through feeling that when he's reading our sources and feels there the actions of the Creator, as a result, he directs himself to connect to the Creator. And thus he advances.

Question (W KabU 2): (35:11) How through our connection the Creator is revealed? Why connection has such a magical power? What secret is hidden in connection? How does the Creator reveal Himself through connection? What is the special thing in connection that causes the Creator to reveal Himself?

M. Laitman: Connection is the main thing. The action of the Creator. Connection is the main thing. It's our main action. If we overcome the distance between us, and we want to reach unity between us, then we come to the knowing and feeling of the Creator within us.

Question (Latin 1): (36:25) The Creator is in the occult. The Creator is in the occult. The Creator is in concealment. How from the concealment I can believe that He's good and  that He does good, but not feel it? So how can you move from feeling faith to feeling it? Because I can say a thousand times that He's good, that He does good, but I won't feel it.

M. Laitman: you have to keep going. You have to continue and think about how you accept the relation of the Creator to you until you actually feel that He's good, that He does good to you, and He wants you to feel Him like that.

Student: And is it more important that my friends get that feeling before I do? Is it more important that my friends will reach that feeling before me? Is it more important that my friends will reach that feeling before me?

M. Laitman: no, no, that for now is just words.

Question (W Petah Tikva Center): (37:42) What does it build within the person that even though there's a concealment, he wants to reveal the Creator? Again, what is built in the person where, even though there's concealment, he wants to reveal the Creator? We learned in item 42 that there's the lack of understanding of the Creator's providence over the created beings.

M. Laitman: Right, so what's the question?

Student: So what does it build in the person if he does MANage to overcome the lack of understanding of the Creator through the friends? What does it build in him? What does it build in us?

M. Laitman: That we truly want to reveal the Creator in an open manner.

Student: Once we overcame the concealment, we build a key within us, we build some connection with the Creator.

M. Laitman: What? Is it clear what she's asking? No?

Student: No. MAybe my husband can clarify. Okay, give the microphone to someone.

Student: when a person feels concealment and he wants to reveal the Creator, how, despite the concealment, he tries to reveal the Creator? That state, that labor he makes, what does it build in him?

M. Laitman: What does it build?

Student: Yes, in a person.

M. Laitman: From the deficiencies that he organizes into a single vessel, then he begins to be aimed, calibrated towards the place where he understands the Creator is becoming revealed.

Question (Latin 2): (40:09) How to find the answers if our nature prevents us from asking?

M. Laitman: No, nature doesn't prevent us from asking. That's not true. Incorrect.

Question (French ): (41:23) What is the condition to reveal the Creator without adhering to him in an egoistic way? According to what he explains here, it seems impossible.

M. Laitman: Yes. We have to adhere to the Creator only according to the force of bestowal, the desire to bestow.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (42:09) Does the Creator want us to reach revelation or go above reason?

Reader: Okay, Rav, let's continue to read. We do have a technical problem. Let's continue for now. 44.

Reading: (42:26) Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot. #44

44) Thus, you see that all we need in our world is open Providence. If we had open Providence, all the people in the world would be complete righteous and would also adhere to Him with absolute love, for it would certainly be a great honor for any one of us to befriend and love Him with our heart and soul, and always adhere to Him without losing even a minute.

However, since it is not so, and a Mitzva is not rewarded in this world, and those who defy His will are not punished before our eyes, but the Creator is patient with them, and moreover, sometimes the opposite seems to be the case, as it is written (Psalms 73), “Behold, those wicked and the tranquil in the world gained riches.” Hence, not all who want to take the Lord may come and take. Instead, we stumble every step of the way, until, as our sages said (VaYikra Rabba 2) about the verse, “I have found one man out of a thousand, where a thousand enter a room, and one comes out to the light.”

Thus, understanding His Providence is the reason for every good, and the lack of understanding is the reason for every bad. It turns out that this is the axis upon which all the people in the world circle, for better or for worse.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (44:48) What does it mean to befriend and fall in love in the Creator in heart and soul?

M. Laitman: To connect. Simple. Okay?

Reader: There are more questions.

M. Laitman: friends there, many of them want to ask, okay? Okay, let's go to Almata.

Question (Almaty): (45:24) I understand that the Creator, that we're lacking to know His providence, and He's concealed so we can develop. But I have a question, because it turns out that we are on the path, and our desire to reveal the Creator disturbs us in the work. So, how should I advance to the Creator on one hand? On the other hand, to not want revelation.

M. Laitman: Why not want? Who told you we shouldn't want to reveal Him?

Student: So, then there's reveal providence, and I'm using my ego. If I know I'm going to reveal the Creator, so it's an egoistic format.

M. Laitman: Very good. So, want to reveal the Creator. Want it. You don't need anything more. Only think of that.

Student: How to use it? Even though there's an ego, I believe I'm going to discover the Creator, so I can already internalize my future state.

M. Laitman: How can you realize that? You don't have the quality of faith. You just think that in the future, at some point, you'll get it. And whether you attain it right now, or next time, or who knows when, that's unknown. So, direct yourself to being with the friends, with the group that's sitting there with you, that along with them, you are now going to a stronger connection towards the revelation of the Creator. All of that depends on the power and intensity of connection between you. That's it. Okay, very good. I'm happy that you understood me. Let's move forward. Now...

Question (W PT 23): (48:03) I understand that the Creator conceals Himself so we can discover Him in our desire.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Why isn't it better to build a connection with the Creator from a direct connection, like a mother and a baby, or a father with a child?

M. Laitman: We basically do that. Except we begin from an even smaller connection to that, even less than that.

Question (W PT 23): (48:50) Does true love have to also have concealment, to not be burned in shame? Does true love have to include concealment so we don't burn in shame?

M. Laitman: No, a person doesn't need to be included with a concealment. Yes, he doesn't need to be incorporated with Ten friends. Rather, to become incorporated with them, yes, that's desired. But it's not that it is a condition where that can't be condemned.

Student: Do we need concealment in order to reveal love?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Student: Can I add something?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How can we adhere to the Creator only in the force of bestowal, and not that we're just doing it through another egoistic desire?

M. Laitman: We want to adhere to cleang to the Creator with our force of bestowal, and in order to adhere to Him, we want to receive from Him and also the force of bestowal that we will have. That we will adhere to Him, and He will adhere to us.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (50:47) he writes in 44, a thousand enter the room and one comes out to the light. There are a lot of similar verses. Why? Why does the Creator only want one out of a thousand to reach the light?

M. Laitman: If we direct ourselves to that one that will be out of one thousand, and will be standing there for those thousands, then we will aim ourselves at the Creator.

Student: Who are those thousands? Who do they represent? Who is that one?

M. Laitman: It doesn't matter. There's no difference.

Student: Why not everyone becomes a direct representative towards everybody else? One works before the collective. Why is it one out of a thousand?

M. Laitman: You're basically saying this. Why? The person who wants to reach the Creator, why will he long to one?

Student: Yes, so each one has to yearn for the Creator.

M. Laitman: So fine then.

Student: So why not all of those thousands need to yearn for the Creator?

M. Laitman: ABout that, it says, I found one out of a thousand.

Student: Why? What is this principle?

M. Laitman: The principle is that the Creator tests each and every one.

Student: Why is it only a few? It's nothing. It's less than a percent. One out of a thousand. Why is it built in this way, this principle? Why don't everybody reach it? Why one out of a thousand?

M. Laitman: No, ultimately everyone arrives, but how we should look at it, when we are looking at a thousand, and they all should be as one.

Student: Why is the Creator limiting the quantity? That's the question.

M. Laitman: I think that limiting the quantity, I think, because... What was the question again?

Student: Why does the Creator limit the quantity? He writes one out of a thousand. Why is He limiting the quantity?

M. Laitman: Why does He limit the amount, so it wouldn't be a thousand?

Student: But there's one out of a thousand. Why is it limited? Why is He selecting? There's a thousand, and He chooses one.

M. Laitman: You're right. Let's ask them. Okay. Next.

Question (W Laitin 15): (54:56) he question is in the same topic. Why does He use the word, I found, or I labored and found? What does it mean to find?

M. Laitman: Because before He didn't see, and now when He connects to everyone, so He finds in them one direction, one tendency.

Question (Moldova): (55:40) If we discover His quality, so we'll also feel our distance from Him. The more we discover Him, the more we see that we're distant, and that gives us the forces to yearn for Him.

M. Laitman: That's not at all the case. No. You don't need to confuse or convolute the conditions that were writTenin this introduction.

Question (PT 8): (56:31) Finding the Creator that we're yearning for. It's something temporary, or is it constant? Or does it appear certain moments and then disappear?

M. Laitman: I'm sorry, again?

Student: The revelations of the Creator we're yearning for. Do we yearn for a constant state of revelation, or is it momentary? And then He disappears.

M. Laitman: We need to reach the Creator who includes all of reality in Him. And so to that reality we adhere.

Student: Is it a perMANent state, a person that's to live that the Creator's always revealed?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Student: Can you remain free in such a state, or is He completely addicted to the Creator?

M. Laitman: When we are adhered to Him, then how He changes, we adapt and change accordingly to stay bonded.

Student: A person's identity, there's this freedom. To be a partner, or is there a distance he's always trying to bridge?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Reader: Rav, so we're done with the lesson. We're done with the lesson. So we're done with the lesson, and we will continue tomorrow. And let's go to a lesson summary in the workshop, please.
