Part 1:
Rabash. Article No. 25, 1991. What Does It Mean that One Who Repents Should Be in Happiness?
1. S. (42:17) It is written, therefore even when a person sees that he's far from the Creator and he thinks his heart that even though he was born a Jew nevertheless he does not use it to perform actions suitable for a Jew and to have faith in the Creator as befitting a Jew. Rather all of his concerns are about satisfying the needs that his body demands. What does it mean he was born Jew?
R. What does it mean that he who was born Jewish, a Jew? It means he has contact with the Creator. Of course he must awaken it and grow it but that's already a form of connection.
2. S. (43:42) He writes to us that one has to reach the necessity or a request and a prayer from the bottom of the heart and receive, to receive that desire to bestow, what is the state of reaching such a necessity from the bottom of the heart? To reach the desire to bestow?
R. That he has doesn't have a desire greater than to receive vessels of bestowal, to acquire vessels of bestowal and he feels that the Creator can provide it.
3. S. (44:28) I have a very similar question. I marked a few things here, he writes even when a person sees how far he is from the Creator and his heart, it pains his heart, even when a person sees how far he is from the Creator it pains him and also when the person feels that he's far from the work of the Creator and by this he reaches the breaking of the heart. He describes all kinds of states where a person feels that it pains him, and he doesn't have spirituality. I can understand a state when a person is happy when he suddenly feels that his heart is breaking of the heart. A state where a person is happening understands that it hurts him and he can't bestow, how do we reach such a lack? How does a person research the state where he lacks bestowing? All the time forever ceaselessly.
R. What kind of deficiency does a person have?
S. All kinds to satisfy himself.
R. To receive, to satisfy himself how can he feel that he lacks a desire to bestow?
S. From what I see in the work, that the only place that a person can feel that he lacks a desire to bestow and be happy with it. He's here in the morning lesson, when we meet with Rabash and the friends, we read and we become incorporated and suddenly it becomes possible to reach a state, to feel a little bit of the state, that we need to live in this state all the time?
R. What's us?
S. How to create such a deficiency?
R. When I have contact with the friends and I hear their words that they reveal the inner workings of their hearts. I also want it. I see how higher they are compared to me, and I wish to approach them, come close to them so what else am I lacking?
S. What you said now that's exactly what's missing that state.
R. So what to do that I will lack this?
S. Yes, that's my question.
R. If I'm in a society where everyone wants to come closer to one another and I am among them and I feel myself nevertheless outside of them how will I come closer to them? How will I enter that field where they're all aimed, where they all worry about the connection between them and from them to the Creator?
S. It is so beautiful what you're saying now it really clothes on the heart and some deficiency that is born as a result of what happened here with the article but that throughout life I mean the daily life the will to receive it's much stronger than the desire that you now described. I want to get closer to the friends like that. I mean seemingly where does the power to make this desire a crown over our head. Where do we take this necessity, I'm not even sure how to say this?
R. Meaning my entire life I should walk around with one concern in my mind. That I have to be close to the friends and my desire to bestow.
S. Yes.
R. If I will have that thought, that permanent thought, what might prevent me from keeping it?
S. How do I place this high thought, this high desire above all the others?
R. We need to agree with the friends that we will all be thinking this way, we will ask this way, we will pray this way that this thought will be strong and all inclusive. There is no problem only working on that.
4. S. (49:53) What does it mean to see the Creator from afar?
R. If you see the Creator from afar is when a person feels that although he can identify the Creator and receive something from Him, nevertheless still from afar he doesn't feel the closeness of the Creator the closeness by understanding Him feeling Him when the Creator is approaching Him he wants to care for Him.
S. How do we detect from afar?
R. He can detect if there is a Creator in the world, but it does not belong to a person so much.
S. What does it mean to see the Creator from near?
R. It's that the Creator is in the world, He's clothed in it, and it overtakes a person or follows a person that He connects to a person, that a person connects to the Creator. still there's no direct contact yet but in that state where a person turns to the Creator, he can feel that the Creator is ready for that.
S. Where do we see the Creator?
R. Where do we see the Creator? In that inclination from a person toward the Creator.
S. How from the state where a person feels far from the Creator he reaches the feeling of joy?
R. That he thinks that all his life he was making efforts he was searching and now he has an opportunity to come closer to the Creator, to touch Him, to shake the connection between him and the Creator he receives joy from it.
S. The joy comes from the nearing or from the feeling of being far?
R. No, from actually approaching the Creator.
5. S. (52:49) With respect to what discernment does it say that we should settle for little with respect to corporeality, or with respect to a spiritual discernment with connection with the Creator?
R. He settles for little refers not to corporeality or spirituality with respect to both of them together when a person needs them both to exist he doesn't need anything. Nothing only what he needs to exist and from that to approach the Creator.
S. If a person has no deficiency then there's no discernment of settling for little because he otherwise he's content with what is given right?
R. Yes.
S. If there's no deficiency then he can't say.
R. There's no such thing as a person without a deficiency. Rather he must bring himself to a state where all of his deficiencies are aimed at the connection with the Creator.
S. If I understand correctly meaning a great yearning for the Creator but he still settles for what it's given. This is what it means to settle for what is little because as I understand it, if there is no lack, he settles for what is little right?
R. Okay, yes.
6. S. (54:35) I also want to continue what the friend was asking, if a person feels that he's broken, he doesn't have bestowal he doesn't have anything but it shines to him that this thing does exist and he does appreciate this quality of the Creator of bestowal and he can praise the Creator even though by himself he cannot bestow, so what kind of state is that?
R. It's a state you just described.
S. But in the article it says that if a person is broken but he sees the Creator from afar and he appreciates the quality of bestowal he can be in joy?
R. If a person values his connection with the Creator.
S. This is the correction of two lines or not just yet?
R. No we're not speaking of two lines.
S. He's talking, in the article, about it, that's why I'm asking about it.
R. I'm not talking about that. I'm not explaining it.
S. To settle for little is that it or?
R. To settle for little means that when a person has something he wants nothing more than that he settles for little.
S. Unrelated to the Creator or?
R. Of course the Creator gives him the fulfillment. Afterall a desire for fulfillment.
S. He needs to fill the Creator that the Creator is giving it to him?
R. And feel the Creator.
S. Above reasons he settles for little?
R. Even before that.
7. S. (56:28) At the end of the article there's a very essential point, Rabbash teaches us that there are two types, a time when a person can feel that he has a lack and a prayer in order to receive the filling for the prayer he needs to shift to another time when he feels wholeness. Only in that way can he adhere, or the Creator can adhere to him. We in our will to receive are used to demanding something and remaining in the deficiency but if we could feel the feeling. I ask for something, and I don't go away from my request. Here it seems like it's supposed to ask for something, leave the deficiency on the side, and return to wholeness without receiving what I asked for in the same place where I asked for it. What kind of relation does a person have to the deficiency that exists in him, the prayer that exists in him because it should be something that he really wants but on the other hand he seemingly needs to demand it, not in a way that he wants it in the same place on the spot. He's asking a different way and he understand that what's the relation that I should have, the demand and the request and the prayer that I have to be part of the prayer itself, so I don't have to receive it in the same place but rather to be able to shift to wholeness without receiving the feeling?
R. First of all I pray for the vessels to have the appropriate vessels, the suitable vessels to receive fulfillment and then for receiving fulfillment itself.
S. That is not the demand, not for the feeling but for the being capable of receiving the feeling?
R. Yes.
R. He's willing to do any action that can bring him closer to the Creator.
S. How can you perform an action if he feels very far from the Creator?
R. Again?
S. How can he perform an action if he feels far? He writes here, if he feels that the feeling is so far from him, he does not see that thing at all. How can he ask to get closer if he's so far away?
R. Nevertheless, he is asking the Creator to show him the state, to show him the place from which he can continue working.
S. 8. (58:40) He writes, but if the thing is so far from him that he does not see that thing at all, how can he say whether it is far or near? Likewise, here in the work, when one feels that he is far from the work of the Creator, and thereby comes to the breaking of the heart because he is far from the Creator, and he wants the Creator to bring him closer, this is considered that he wants to make an offering to come closer to the Creator, and it is certain that the Creator has come near him. What does it mean that he wants to bring an offering, a sacrifice?
R. He is willing to do any action that can bring him closer to the Creator.
S. How can he perform an action if he feels very far from the Creator?
R. Again.
S. How can he perform an action if he feels very far from the Creator? He writes here,
if the thing is so far from him that he does not see that thing at all, how can he ask to come closer if he is so far away?
R. Nevertheless, he is asking the Creator to show him the state, the place from which he can continue working?
S. He writes, certainly the Creator comes closer to Him so how do you reach a state where you are in such lowliness but at the same time you are certain that the Creator will bring you closer to him?
R. A prayer, if he sees that he has done everything that he cannot come closer to the Creator. He can certainly not take the final step and he has nothing left, only prayer and expect that the Creator will finish it for me.
S. The article he gives many examples about the distance, the difference from the Creator and what comes out from all the examples is that what we see doesn't really matter far near it does the Creator at all, the Creator's always there and we should always be in an effort to remember that.
R. Yes. We are truly getting closer to this then it should be more and more clear to each one, whatever state that he's in and we are actually on the crossroads.
9. S. (01:01:57) I'm afraid of the idea of the end of the correction?
R. Then don't think about it.
S. If we're finally at the end of correction what do we have to ask the Creator?
R. You're afraid of the end of correction you won't have anything to give to the Creator?
S. Yes.
R. So you won't have anything to give Him, ok, because He already corrected all of your vessels and you have nothing to give to the Creator. Usually we correct and then we serve it to Him and then we ask Him to correct it. This is actually our work, this is what He enjoys but if you have already corrected it, then there is nothing to do.
S. He will have more contentment if we're in a state of wholeness?
R. I don't think about that state, it's when we reach it then we will see it and we will solve this problem.
10. S. (01:03:42) Friends touched here on the distance from the Creator. We know that the place where a person can measure and evaluate his state on the path is in the morning lesson, but sometimes a person forgets that the place of work or the best possible conditions for checking, for measuring, is during the morning lesson. If you can remind us why in the morning lesson, why, what are these optimal conditions in the morning lesson that we can use in order to work in the most precise way in reality?
R. First of all, people who wake up during such time, well there are few, and we gather and we want to attain the purpose of creation, therefore this time is a good time, it's intended for that and Kabbalists also did that and they did corrections by that and so we get assistance during the morning lesson.
S. These conditions are such that as far as the time is concerned it’s a very special time and there are additional elements that help one focus on the work and make it more accurate. What should I be looking for, how to use these helping conditions in order to make the work more precise?
R. You have to renew your connection with the friends. You need to try to raise it to a higher degree than yesterday, you need to discover, disclose your deficiency towards the friends in order to help them in that and also to try to absorb the deficiencies of the friends in yourself. That's it, the most important is coming together, solidifying.
S. Lastly, how to absorb the deficiencies of the friends? What is the advice? What do I have to do so the friends’ deficiencies will be felt in me, I will identify with it, I will want to be with it or with him.
R. Well these are the friends, you know them you see them, you understand how much they come to the lessons and how much they want to participate in the spiritual work in order to bring together their spiritual tendencies, so this is why you come to the lesson, and therefore you are happy when you see them here and they're also ready for it. Accordingly, you carry out the work, what is the morning lesson. The morning lesson is the main lesson we have during the day in which we want to be connected with a common deficiency so that the Creator, through this common deficiency, will be revealed in us and a little bit to the whole of humanity.
S. What about the Rav’s deficiencies, the author's, the Rabash's? What about that?
R. They are there.
S. I should also make an effort toward that?
R. No.
S. The main thing is to feel this friend's deficiencies?
R. Through the friends to the Creator.
R. Yes.
11. S. (01:08:20) What's the difference between a deficiency that a person, when a person discovers that he first and foremost cleaved onto there is None Else Besides Him, the good who does good, and they have eyes, and they cannot see. First of all he does this and then the deficiency is revealed versus the deficiency that is revealed without doing this work? He sees wars, he sees many friends uncorrected, what's the difference between these two deficiencies?
R. I don't understand. Again, more briefly and clearly.
S. What's the difference in the deficiency between when a person discovers that A) he closes his eyes and he tries to adhere to the Creator, or B), he opens his eyes, and the deficiency is revealed without work on his part?
R. These are two degrees of the deficiency. The first deficiency he shuts his eyes, and he wants to see the connections between the friends, these are the connections that are not corporeal they are seemingly spiritual, and the second deficiency that he discovers is that they have ordinary earthly connections between them.
S. I didn't get it.
R. I didn't understand what you were asking either. Again.
S. I wish to reveal an upper deficiency, a higher deficiency for bestowal, what's the difference between, I'll think about it.
R. Ok think about it, I see it's not yet ripe.
12. S. (01:10:56) It says even though a person understands that it's worthwhile to work in order to bestow, but for a person to feel the necessity of it he does not have this, this is why a person must work so the Creator will illuminate for him the necessity of a matter. It seems like an excellent state, a person understands that he needs it, he’s cleansed himself from everything else, but he still doesn’t have the deficiency, he wants to feel the lack, he wants to live it.
R. Yes.
S. It's good. The answer to work in the Ten, to work with the friends and so on and so forth, but the question is how to bring that state to our lives as much as possible?
R. By persisting in the thought.
S. We control our thoughts?
R. Yes.
S. In what?
R. By trying all the time to bring myself back to it.
S. When it disappears it disappears and when it comes it comes.
R. No, a person can nevertheless somehow strengthen the thought.
S. How?
R. By being in it, living in it, poking in it.
S. He has to relieve himself from other things to engage in it?
R. Apparently so just like in this world.
S. It says a person must work, is it actual work?
R. Yes of course it's an inner effort.
13. S. (01:12:58) The way I understood it, there are states that are revealed, deficiencies, after a person worked and tried to create a connection to the Creator and there are states where the Creator reveals bad states for you, it comes to you from above not that you work ahead of it, but life forbids you, so what's the difference between doing it without work, you didn’t work, and the Creator is revealed versus working and then it is revealed?
R. Well. It's that a person that a person already has some vessels, he already has discernments.
S. What's the difference from the point of view of the person in the kind of deficiency that he had between this state and the other state?
R. Clearly there is a difference. The entire deficiency upon which a person discovers his own deficiency it's already a connection with the person's deficiency and the Creator's deficiency, and therefore we need to see what result comes out of it. If a person yearns for the Creator or not, if the person answers the Creator’s invitation or not, if he by himself raises MAN and he asks, he yearns for the Creator or not, there are many combinations here but it's always a combination between how the Creator turns to him and how he answers the Creator.
S. I'll continue the question. In these two kinds of deficiencies that are revealed, what is the work of man? How should a person respond when the Creator beats him, and how should a person respond when he did some work and then the deficiency is revealed?
R. In every state a person wants to come to such a state in which he yearns to come closer to the Creator, and even though he feels the Creator even though he feels the Creator doesn't turn to him he nevertheless asks, yearns, and begs to be connected with the Creator. When that state is clarified he begins to work on warming him up, meaning to move him to vessels of bestowal.
14. S. (01:17:05) He said in the beginning of the article, I didn't know how to ask this, it's written very clearly that the reward for exertion is adhesion with the Creator or in order to bestow and a person if he doesn't have a deficiency for it he needs to ask for it. So in my mind and in my feeling it's clear that that's a desired state, I want to be in that state all the time, but our life is built in a way that this thing moves away because something else comes from our regular life and suddenly it grabs that place, you suddenly discover where is adhesion, where is everything, you’re immersed in something else, whether it's dissemination, world Kli, things that are supposedly important. So my question is, how not to lose that point of reward for adhesion with the Creator even though we have to do all kinds of things in our life. How did you do it? You built this whole system, the whole world Kli, you traveled all over the world so many times. What have you not done? I'm sure you also held on to adhesion with the Creator at that time. How to do that in parallel, not to lose that thread, that rope, to adhesion with the Creator?
R. I don't think that I was so high as you can depict myself right now, I just tried to implement what my teacher expected of me, that's it, and that gave me forces, gave me strength.
15. S. (01:19:18) It is written that the answer that a person must know that the Creator brought himself closer to man for that man feels that he's farther from the Creator. How could it be that a person feels far from the Creator when the Creator came closer?
R. He feels his place as more real, yes, where he really feels himself more distant.
16. S. (01:19:49) I don't feel a need for spirituality even though I make spiritual efforts. What should I do in order to feel a need for spirituality?
R. You are probably not building your future towards the connection with the friends in the group, and therefore how will you feel a need for spirituality?
17. S. (01:20:22) How to feel the deficiency in the Ten in the friends?
R. How to feel the deficiency in the friends? According to what I see, feel, hear, in all my senses and even above them, I'm connected to friends, I want to help them, they probably want to help me, and this is how we connect.
18. S. (01:21:29) What does it mean to answer the Creator's invitation?
R. Where is that written, I don’t know.
S. I heard you say that a person has to check whether he yearns to the Creator or not, if he's answering the Creator's invitation or not?
R. The Creator's invitation is Him inviting us to Him, meaning to come to visit in His hall, to His palace.
S. What does it mean to answer that invitation?
R. To connect and come closer to the Creator.
19. S. (01:22:17) You answered the friend that what gave you forces is that you tried to implement what your teacher told you.
R. Yes.
S. Now, how do you work when there is a state that you feel that what your teacher’s are talking about there's no chance any way that you can implement?
R. There's no such thing, there isn't, it’s the wrong perception. The teacher gives you all the steps for the smallest degrees of beginners.
S. Now if we take what we're speaking about in this lesson, lines, faith, above reason, we're speaking about all kinds of states. Day-to-day what you're left with is a struggle to be in some kind of contact with the Ten as much as possible, that I'll be missing them, that I'll feel pain that I'm not with them, that I have something in my thoughts when we don't have the virtual physical meeting, that, day-to-day, that's what we can do, nothing beyond that, and here you hear what the friends are saying it seems really like you're not anywhere near this as if you jump to some place of high education when you don't even know how to read, and it's not good because you need a demand you need that hunger to implement. It seems that it's hurting because it seems so exalted.
R. Always when you enter a new place that's how it feels, like you don't know what they're talking about, seems like they're far and exalted and too wise and I'm not in my place.
S. What do I do with that?
R. From adhesion you will receive their degree and continue.
S. This adhesion is what?
R. To want to be with them together, to connect to them like the big ones like the adults.
20. S. (01:25:00) What I understood is that we're lacking in intensity of the deficiency. It doesn't matter what it's clothed in, we must reach an intensity?
R. Okay yes.
21. S. (01:25:27) It's written here for a deficiency when a person comes to a time of lowliness he has to ask the Creator to give him the necessity the need for the will to bestow and that the prayer will be from the bottom of the heart.
R. Yes.
S. Is that prayer a prayer before a prayer?
R. Let it be so.
S. That prayer, is that connected to the right left somehow? When can we raise such a prayer?
R. Why should I be confused if I don't know the first step? You can put in here all that you ever heard and what?
22. S. (01:26:27) He writes that the answering of the prayer is when a person is in happiness that he's happy with his share.
R. Yes.
S. He writes that there's a time to receive the fulfillment because when a person is in a deficiency it can be filled because the sinner can be adhered to the blessed, so the happiness, we have to awaken it in order to have a prayer answered for deficiency?
R. Yes.
S. If I don't awaken happiness so I won't get an answer to my prayer.
R. No.
S. But it's like it's disconnected from one another. I have some kind of deficiency or us, so I don't just run and become happy suddenly so how do I work with that?
R. That you received it from the Creator and that's why you respect it.
S. Respect what?
R. Respect the joy.
S. I don't have to wake it up for myself?
R. Awaken it too, yes.
