Part 3: The Ruin as an Opportunity for Correction - Selected Excerpts from the Sources, #12.

Reader: Hello, this lesson is on the subject of the correction of the breaking. Item 12, let's begin. From Shem Mishmuel.

Reading: (00:20) 12. Shem MiShmuel, Portion Haazinu

The intention of creation was for all to be one bundle, to do His will, as was said in The Zohar, that Adam HaRishon would tell all the created beings, “Let us bow and kneel, and bless the Lord our Maker.” But the matter was spoiled because of the sin, until even the best in those generations could not unite together in order to serve the Creator. Rather, they were individuals, alone, for one foreign Item in a bundle spoils the entire bundle. The correction of this began in the generation of Babylon, when separation occurred in the human race, meaning the beginning of the correction of gathering and assembling people to serve the Creator, which started with Abraham the Patriarch and his descendants, to have a community gathered to serve the Creator. Abraham would walk and call out the name of the Creator until a great community gathered unto him, who were called “the people of the house of Abraham.” Thus, the matter grew until it became the assembly of the congregation of Israel. And the end of correction will be in the future, when all become one bundle to do Your will wholeheartedly.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:58) What is that point in creation where you begin to correct the shattering? It's like a point of inversion in the whole of creation, where suddenly you begin to correct the shattering. Up to now, everything builds and advances towards the shattering, and then there's some inversion, where correction begins. What is that point?

M. Laitman: That point is that the creative being that develops, that are, begins to feel there is an obligation over it to bring himself to identify with the Creator. This is called adhesion, and therefore this point is very significant. This is called the beginning of creation.

Student: And is this some historical moment with Abraham, or is it in our times?

M. Laitman: He writes about it nicely.

M. Laitman reading: Let us work towards our God. But due to the sin this matter was broken, that they can't make this correction together, where even the good ones in that generation were not able to come together in order to serve the Creator. Rather, they were individuals alone, or even one foreign item in a bundle spoils the entire bundle, meaning the correction has to be complete. The correction of this began in the generation of Babylon, when the separation occurred in the human race, meaning the beginning of the correction, of gathering and assembling people to serve the Creator, which started with Abraham the patriarch and his descendants to have a community gathered to serve the Creator. Abraham would walk and call out the name of the Creator until a great community gathered unto him who were called the people of the house of Abraham. Thus the matter grew until it became the assembly of the congregation of Israel. And the end of the correction will be in the future, when all become one bundle to do Your will wholeheartedly.

M. Laitman: Yes. What's to add here?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (07:07) It says here that even the best could not unite, and in the times of Abraham people who had the opportunity to unite assembled.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So why is it that the best of them could not connect, while in the times of Abraham there was such an option?

M. Laitman: Probably they were lacking the feeling of the sin, the disparity, the distance, the conflict between them. Then they couldn't unite. Only when they came to a certain form of development, then they could begin to unite.

Question (Turkiye 1): (08:28) Now, in the excerpt we read, it says that one foreign item in a bundle spoils the entire bundle.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So the question is, what does it mean, if you can explain?

M. Laitman: For the purpose of correction there has to be longing for wholeness on part of the created beings, where they feel themselves broken. And they need correction, but they themselves still can't move themselves to it and demand the correction. And therefore, this is, after many of searching and scrutinizing, how can they be together until they understand what it means, “to do Your will wholeheartedly,” then starts the phase of correction.

Question (Salt Lake City): (09:54) It says, Abraham would walk and call out the name of the Creator until a great community gathered unto him.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What does it mean, call out the name of the Creator?

M. Laitman: That he would awaken everyone to come to connection, where they will be closer to the Creator and can reveal the Creator, and connect to Him, so that their desire becomes one thing, just to connect and incorporate with each other. That is the correction.

Question (Hadera 10): (11:16) The generation of the separation. What does that indicate?

M. Laitman: These two forces are always at our disposal, either to get closer to each other or move away from each other. And therefore, we will hear about this whole process many more times, but this is what has to be. All in all, to reveal the shattering and the forces that can connect them as before the shattering.

Question (New York 2): (12:10) It says here, but the matter was spoiled because of the sin. What is the purpose of the sin in our work? What is the use of it? How do we make use of this stage?

M. Laitman: The purpose of the corruption is to show the created beings what is truly broken in them. And to hint at in what way they can correct themselves.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (13:17) The recognition of evil, must it come to all parts of humanity, all parts of creation?

M. Laitman: No, the main thing is with respect to us.

Student: With respect to us?

M. Laitman: The people of Israel. This special group has to reveal its relation to the Creator. All the people of Israel, it has to reveal what direction, what goal, this group receives the urge to move towards, to become corrected, and that is how we too need to look for the opportunity to get closer and act.

Student: So the correction in the people of Israel will cause a correction of the...

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (14:41) What should we do in order to be the house of Abraham?

M. Laitman: It's written about it, that we have to unite, to all be as one bundle, and by this, each one will cause the other's conditions, and these conditions will be able to explain to us why we exist, for what purpose of the correction. This is what we need to do.

Student: He writes that the house of Abraham grows and grows.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: We see a phenomenon that we really grew, and we're not growing anymore, no matter what the dissemination, people leave, people come, and we want the house of Abraham. All the good will grow to the whole world. What should we do so the house of Abraham will grow?

M. Laitman: We, first of all, need to make the correction happen in us, that we will all unite and grow as much as possible, meaning there's no end to it, but we'll see how much. And then, let's hope, we will see where the goal should be of the whole connection.

Student: So the growth has to start in the connection between us, then it will be expressed externally too?

M. Laitman: Yes. Israel are the first who have to perform the correction.

Question (Woman Turkiye 7): (17:00) I heard you say that before Abraham, they were lacking the feeling of the sin of the separation, so then they couldn't unite. My question is, what is our state today? Do we have that feeling of the sin?

M. Laitman: In us, there's a certain feeling of separation, but not enough to push us with all our might toward connection between us. It's actually revealed, the shattering, but it's still very light. And we will need to perform certain operations, a number of operations until the evil inclination moves within us, until we reveal how much it is within us and how much it determines our spiritual degree.

Question (Woman Spain 1): (18:34) What is the spiritual nature of that inversion point in creation that marks the beginning of the correction?

M. Laitman: The inversion point in creation is when we begin to discover ourselves as, on the one hand, as a group, a big group on the one hand, and on the other hand, that we are unable to correct ourselves by ourselves. And then, we unite and turn to the Creator, and from that form of connection, we reach the end of correction, which is complete connection, complete connection among all the children of Israel.

Question (Croatia): (19:57) How can we hold each other in the will, against the will to receive as a support in the Ten, so that everyone will feel the care of each other towards the goal?

M. Laitman: That's our work. We need, each day, to see, to check, to what extent we are connected, to what extent we have the right inclination, tendency toward the center of our connection, in each Ten, in the whole group, in all the countries, so that, all in all, we are in motion toward connection.

Student: So, how can we give this feeling of like being a guarantor for each other, like reaching that Arvut between each other, that we can lift each other up, and give each other that confidence that we are on the right goal, even if it's concealed.

M. Laitman: I think it will become more and more revealed, to the extent that we want to reveal it. And then, on the one hand, we want to come closer of our own volition, and, on the other hand, according to the forces of nature, we will feel how it operates on us. We are really small groups all over the world, and out of these groups, we need to do one big thing, where there will be no separation, but on the contrary, on top of all the sensation of separation, a tendency for adhesion will cover it. This is what we need. And then, in this way, if we do this, then the Creator will perform the correction, He Himself will perform it.

Question (Beer Sheva): (23:08) In the second sentence, it says that we will bow down to Your words. What are those actions that the first man did before the shattering?

M. Laitman: These are already operations of connection that we have to repeat and determine that this is how the connection between us should be, among all those who want to approach the Creator. And by this, we will feel our connection. How much that connection becomes deep and strong, and that it is pulling all of us to our center. So we can each feel each other - each group, its group, and the other groups. In this way, we will gradually come to unity among all the participants, among all our friends, we will come to a unity. We will come to the state of correction.

Student: What changed in the soul of Adam HaRishon that Kabbalists needed to write all these things? As if something was taken from it. What was taken from his soul that was there?

M. Laitman: The point of connection. They suddenly began to feel that they were growing further, farther from each other in groups, in people, and that there was no longer a unity like there was before. That's why, on the one hand, they hear the commandment of the Creator, and can understand that they have some understanding of the connection, and more than that, they have an inclination to separation. So out of these two states, they begin to feel what has been prepared for them, and what awaits the whole world, all of humanity.

Reader: We have an excerpt about that exactly. Number 13, we'll read it, and then we'll keep asking questions.

Reader: In 13, Baal HaSulam writes in the article 600,000 souls,

Reading: (26:38) 13. Baal HaSulam, "600,000 Souls"

There is indeed only one soul in the world, as it is written (Genesis 2:7), “and breathed into his nostrils the soul [also “breath” in Hebrew] of life.” That same soul exists in all the children of Israel, complete in each and every one, as in Adam HaRishon, since the spiritual is indivisible and cannot be cut—which is rather a trait of corporeal things.

Rather, saying that there are 600,000 souls and sparks of souls appears as though it is divided by the force of the body of each person. In other words, first, the body divides and completely denies him of the radiance of the soul, and by the force of the Torah and the Mitzva [commandment], the body is cleansed, and to the extent of its cleansing, the common soul shines on him.

Question (Latin 1): (28:07) When I want to come closer to a friend, so he moves away. And when a friend wants to come closer to me, I move away. So how can there be a common yearning to come closer to one another?

M. Laitman: If we don't perform any actions, then of course we will not get closer to each other. If we try to perform the acts as they appear in the Torah, then we will begin to discover how opposite we are from these operations, acts of connection. And then we will ask, demand, the force of connection to help us reach a state where we are connected as it was in the beginning of creation, before the breaking, before the revelation of the separated force that is, separating force that is in each one, and that way we'll discover each one, that he is ready to rise and move toward our center, meaning the whole of our world group that has some sort of a central point. How do we come to this? Through the desire, there's nothing but the desire, but we have to constantly scrutinize this desire as a strong, special desire, central, united, and this way we will pray that we will have it.

Question (Woman Latin 24): (30:59) In what was Abraham so special that it is what started the connection with the Creator?

M. Laitman: It was special because it could, as it was written about it, we read it, that he was awakening to the force that operated on everyone, and he felt that uniting among them is the call of the hour, that this is what needed to be done. And this is why he is called Abraham, the father of the nation. That's it. And the rest of the operations happened as a result of the first act of connection.

Question (Woman Heb 1): (32:14) The article talks about the generation of the separation, the tower of Babylon, and then the people of the house of Abraham, and then the end of correction, it's three stages. In today's reality, you see the imagination between the states. Can you explain the connection between that generation of separation to our reality?

M. Laitman: No. This is what happened to us on our spiritual roots. We were in this, we went through it, and we remained in some forces. There are now within us, in all of us, and they design the picture of our world. For all of us are slightly dependent on each other and connected to each other, but in truth, each one, according to his egoistic qualities, doesn't want to be connected with others, because he doesn't see that he gains by this, and that it's worth his while. And this is why we are still under the forces of the shattering.

Question (Woman Spa): (34:07) How should I see the results of the sin correctly in order to use it to advance? Or, is the sin showing me some kind of result? Or, in that place, what discernment should I look for? What hints?

M. Laitman: We need to discover the sin that it controls all of us, in general, on all the people. And, to the extent that there should be connection between us, the sin is not revealed. It's to the contrary, to the extent that we don't want connection with each other. And, let's hope that we will understand, feel, and discover that the relation between us, the connection between us, is necessary in order for us to be rewarded with the correction of the world.

Question (Woman Turkiye): (35:55) If every person is a spark of that same soul, so how is each one of us in a different state, a different spiritual degree?

M. Laitman: It doesn't matter. We are in one tendency. And, even though each one has operations that are seemingly opposite from the correction that Baal HaSulam tells us here, it doesn't change us. We are in corrections, long corrections. And, we belong to one soul, to one upper force. Although, we, in our breaking, don't feel the connection between us. And, we must perform some actions to get closer to each other. But, at the same time, when we continue, we will see how much we are nevertheless in a, we are in the correction of the shattering beginning, in the general connection, and that we have no escape other than to reach unity.

Question (Woman KabU 13): (37:41) We're learning that we're working with two forces, unity and separation. And, we also speak about the group, and also an assembly, and a society, and the state of one man and one heart. So, how do I understand the states internally in our daily work with each other?

M. Laitman: We are always in two forces, connection and separation, love and hate. It's in our nature. And, we need to explain to ourselves that with these two forces that always operate in us, we come closer, move further, we are in states of war with one another, connection with one another, nearing one another. And from this, we always need to learn from these two forces that are opposite, which are in us. We need to learn who we are, what we are, what we are with respect to the Creator, and the nature of the Creator. This is what we need to study, Him we need to study. Let's hope that now we are already in that direction and on our way to it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:06) It's written that the soul of Adam HaRishon are in all the people of Israel, in each one and whole. What does that mean?

M. Laitman: That in each of us there is that same soul that is in everyone else.

Student: It's written that by the force of Torah and commandments, the body was purified, and to that extent, the general soul shines on Him. So that's each one's work separately?

M. Laitman: It is the work of all of us together, to the extent that we want to achieve connection between us.

Student: In the previous excerpt, it said that we need to perform the Creator's will wholeheartedly. What does that mean?

M. Laitman: With one heart. With one heart.

Question (Kyiv 1): (41:22) You said that from the changes of the states, we can understand the Creator's nature.

M. Laitman: I don't know. We'll advance towards it. And eventually, from the qualities that are separating between us, we'll gradually learn how to connect. In that way, we can understand what the Creator is, and what was pre-prepared for us.

Question (Woman Rehovot 1): (42:19) When does the inversion happen? When the ego doesn't control him, but the Creator controls him?

M. Laitman: When does it happen? When a person starts searching for it, asking about it, and coming closer to it.

Student: How does this process happen, when the ego doesn't control, but a person feels that the Creator controls his ego?

M. Laitman: It's all on the way. It's all coming on the way. We're learning about it. We're establishing it. Our approach should be from corruption to correction.

Student: How does a person know that a correction happened in him? He feels corruption. What are the signs that a correction happened in him?

M. Laitman: The signs are his relation towards the group. According to that, a person can check oneself, and organize his plea to the Creator, and turn to the Creator.

Question (Woman Europe): (44:01) Question about item number 13. Baal HaSulam writes that the body takes the illumination of Nefesh. Thanks to the Ten Commandments, the body is cleansed. I wanted to ask, what is the light of the common soul?

M. Laitman: We’ll attain it, then we will feel it and reveal it.

Question (ITA 3): (44:48) On our path, should we check at what point we are? To create some work plan and determine our goals or live our path from day to day?

M. Laitman: Kabbalists wrote us what our orders of action should be. We constantly have to discover what state of separation we are in, one from the other. And in this general state, as much as we're opposite of the Creator, we need to try and reach some kind of connection between us. To that extent, reach unity with the Creator, when each one yearns to be connected to the others. And we're trying to implement it in our Tens.

Reader: Rav, why don't we read another excerpt? Excerpt number 14. Baal HaSulam writes,

Reading: (46:03) 14. Baal HaSlam, "600,000 Souls"

Two discernments were made in the corporeal body: In the first discernment, one feels one’s soul as a unique organ and does not understand that this is the whole of Israel. […]

In the second discernment, the true light of the soul of Israel does not shine on him in all its power of illumination, but only partially, by the measure he has purified himself by returning to the collective.

The sign for the body’s complete correction is when one feels that one’s soul exists in the whole of Israel, in each and every one of them, for which he does not feel himself as an individual, for one depends on the other. At that time, he is complete, flawless, and the soul truly shines on him in its fullest power, as it appeared in Adam HaRishon.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:33) I heard you say before that we have to move toward the center of our world group.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What is this operation that makes us move toward that center point?

M. Laitman: That I want to be in that state, I want to feel it, to be in it. And to see myself in each and every day, as much as I'm coming closer to it.

Student: But what is the center point?

M. Laitman: The center point is that all of us will feel ourselves connected between us. And we have to be in that way with all created beings.

Student: Is the center point of a Ten or the center point, a general center point, common to everyone?

M. Laitman: Common to everyone.

Student: And does each one move toward that point?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: He's breaking up.

M. Laitman: By each one of us bestowing a bit more or a bit less, pro or con, but by this, we are shaking up each one the others.

Student: So, if I can perform an action, how can I make everyone advance toward that center?

M. Laitman: You need to see, to finish, to help the connection between the friends, to cause the connection between the friends. When you're close to them, you know them in the group, maybe a bit more than the group. Let's say in the Ten, and you're concerned that you're Ten, that the Ten will feel that they are connected with everyone, with the whole Kli of Bnei Baruch, and also will feel that they're outside of the Kli of Bnei Baruch, and what yes and what no. In this way, we will pray, we'll want to do actions that will really bring each one closer to the other.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (50:52) We are now in the nine days, the month of Av began, and these nine days symbolize the time of the ruin of the first temple, the second temple, the time of mourning for the people of Israel and for humanity. Do we have some special work in these days according to the root and branch?

M. Laitman: Of course, we'll read about it, we'll do all kinds of actions between us.

Student: What do these days symbolize?

M. Laitman: In these days, we are usually… We should be in a state, and according to the separation, that we are separated from one another, all in all, our whole world Kli, that are thousands of people. We want everybody to know about it, that everybody will come close to it, that all of us together will feel as much as we need to be together, but along with that, we're not able, sometimes yes, sometimes no, but actually we're in the same state. And as much as we will cut, as much as we will feel that our state, even though we have a bit of connection, but the separation is controlling us, and that's called the exile. That we don't feel the Creator, because there's no connection between us. That's why we need to do all the corrections, that eventually, we'll come to correction, to unity.

Student: So what do we do in that intermediary state, when we are broken, we are under the exile, but we're not correcting ourselves, we're kind of given to the breaking?

M. Laitman: We have to discover the shattering, that it is controlling us, and that we don't agree to that control. And in this way, to... we reach a state that we're above the shattering, and we can, in somewhat, start the corrections.

Student: From what does the correction begin? The need for correction? Where does it begin?

M. Laitman: The need starts that we feel ourselves disconnected from one another. We don't really have the forces to connect and understand and touch the other. And all in all, when we feel it, so we'll be able to feel as much as we aren't able to agree with this, and we want to come out of it, and when we uplift above it, then we already start feeling as much as we have a connection, and as much as the Creator can be together with us. And to the extent that we awaken the connection between us, to that extent, we need, we need to reach the connection between us, and in that connection, we'll already feel our existence in a connection that is called the next world.

Student: How to come to that sharp feeling of disconnection between us? We're disconnected between us, and there's no connection, so it engenders something from within us.

M. Laitman: It's clear that we're disconnected. Nobody relates to the other like he does to himself.

Student: I understand this intellectually, but emotionally, I want to feel the real sensation of disconnect, so it will create a prayer in me.

M. Laitman: That comes gradually.

Student: Can I be drawn to correction without that sharp feeling of disconnection?

M. Laitman: No, you can't.

Student: So, what do I do in order to feel this, so it moves me from within, so there's a movement of prayer in me?

M. Laitman: For that, you need a group.

Student: I'm in a group.

M. Laitman: What do you mean, you're in a group? You fill in a chair here?

Student: Well, that's my question, how to move myself from within until I feel that sharp feeling of the disconnect between us?

M. Laitman: You need to see everyone, your whole group. You see Petah Tikva? There's a big part there from all the world group. All of us don't agree to keep being in the state we're in, but we need to reach the connection between us.

Student: Is it permitted to talk about the separation between us in the Ten?

M. Laitman: In the Ten?

Student: Yes.

M. Laitman: Not desired.

Student: So, what should we give up in order to at least begin to correct the shattering?

M. Laitman: We need to give up on our calmness. That we are disconnected between us, and we agree with this, that it's happening. So, all in all, in order to bring each and everyone to a state that he will hate himself, hate his nature, hate his attitude towards the Creator and the creation and the friends - that hatred, on the one hand, gives forces, to connect, on the other hand.

Student: This is very powerful, what you just said, but I'm trying to see how the will to receive can even come to such a state, to agree to relinquish its comfort in order to feel the depth of the shattering, the disconnect, the hatred for itself. How emotionally - intellectually, I can depict it - but how do we come to it emotionally?

M. Laitman: Talk to the Creator inside you only about that topic, and you'll see how it becomes more clear emotionally.

Question (Woman Petah Tikva 8): (01:00:01) It's written, the sign for a correction of the body is when he feels that his soul is in each and every one in Israel. How can we begin to approach that feeling in our Ten?

M. Laitman: Ask yourselves, ask yourselves about the state you're in according to what's written, and discuss it, and you'll understand from this where else you have to advance towards.

Student: When we talk about connection, we always talk about connection. What do we need to connect? What do we connect there in the Ten?

M. Laitman: The desire to be one in the point of connection with the Creator.

Student: It's something that's not in our perception, right?

M. Laitman: No.

Student: It doesn't exist in our perception. It's completely hidden.

M. Laitman: But it depends what prayer you're in.

Student: In what prayer should I be there? Countless prayers. We don't know what to focus on.

M. Laitman: Us wanting to be in the same point of connection between us to the Creator, and that's the only thing we're asking for.

Student: Again, it's a desire that's still hidden, right? What is the point of connection with the Creator? I have no idea.

Student: What I wanted to say, I said. That's it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:02:08) Can a person be rewarded with hating himself, his body, his will to receive? Only to the extent that he loves the group more?

M. Laitman: Not necessarily.

Student: With respect to what can a person hate himself?

M. Laitman: I don't know from what reasons.

Student: And shouldn't we know the reasons?

M. Laitman: He should know the reasons. Please, yearn for connection. And as much as that connection is desired from within, according to that, he'll see himself close to the Creator. And in which connection or separation he is to Him.

Student: The connection is with the group.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: That's why I'm asking. The more he yearns for connection with the vessel, with the group, and that is what is good for him. Opposite that, he can feel himself as bad.

M. Laitman: Okay.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:03:41) It's written that Abraham was calling out the name of the Lord.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And we also learned that the third state exists, and everything is going towards correction, and it's all towards corrections. So how do we give room to the Creator to draw us and to understand that it's all corrections and constantly call out the name of the Lord to really be in the place where He is the upright and that way advance much more quickly?

M. Laitman: What can I say? We need in the connection with the others to discuss it until your relation, your knowledge will already start being clear between you and in this way you'll reach that point that in that point we'll be equal and I'll be clear and maybe feeling in somewhat your connection between you and the Creator. That's something we have to reach.

Reader: That's it, Rav, we've finished the lesson, so friends now we will move to summarizing the lesson in the Ten  and then we'll continue.
