Part 2: Live broadcast with Rav:

Preparation for Opening the Heart at the Congress - Selected Excerpts from the Sources. #4

Reader: Hello. We are in the lesson on the topic of opening the heart during the Congress. We'll read from the sources. The reason for this special lesson and these special excerpts is the Congress that is up and coming in three days. The topic of the Congress is “In one Prayer,” three days of Congress ahead of us, let's begin. Rabash writes in Item 4:

Reading: (00:31) 4. RABASH, Letter 24

You must always stand guard, all day and all night, when you feel a state of day or feel a state of night.

We say to the Creator, “Yours is the day, and Yours is also the night.” Thus, the night, too, the darkness of night, comes from the Creator to man’s favor, too, as it is written, “Day to day utters speech, and night to night expresses knowledge” (See the Sulam Commentary, Part 1, Item 103).

It follows that you must awaken the heart of the friends until the flame rises by itself, as our sages said about it, “When you mount the candles.” By that, you will be rewarded with awakening the love of the Creator upon us.

M. Laitman: So, the first goal is to awaken the heart of the friends, and then also will come the relationship to the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:55) To awaken the heart of the friends means that I need to always stand guard and awaken the heart of the friends. He says, all day and all night.

M. Laitman: Well, that's what they say.

Student: Okay, so why stand guard during the day if there's already in a state of the day, a person operates?

M. Laitman: Because we're constantly in a whirlwind, internal, external. And that's why we need to be observant, not to fall.

Student: What kind of guard is there during the day?

M. Laitman: During the day, we need to maintain our state. We are constantly advancing in a certain direction toward the Creator, a certain force. And what does it mean to advance all those things? We need to scrutinize and enter into them more and more.

Student: When a person feels a state of day, what should he be worried about? What's the caution here?

M. Laitman: First of all, there are many days and many nights between them. And we need to make sure we don't fall each time from the place we are to a worse state, always to rise to a better state.

Student: In the opposite state, when a person feels the state of night, let's say even during the Congress, he suddenly feels the disconnect, separation. How does he stand guard and work in love of friends?

M. Laitman: Only through the connection with them.

Student: What's the state of night?

M. Laitman: That's if he feels that he's distracted. He has to act; he'll have more of the light of day.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (04:33) What exactly is considered awakening the heart of the friends?

M. Laitman: To awaken the heart of the friends, means that everyone should listen, and develop, and open up, and come closer to one another, and to have a single ear.

Student: You said the first goal is to awaken the heart of the friends, and then also the relation to the Creator will come. So, it's like the attitude to the Creator is a kind of an outcome of working to awaken the heart of the friends. A person doesn't work towards awakening the Creator?

M. Laitman: That means that we are all responsible, each one is responsible for everyone else. That's why if we think this way, that in my actions I wish to contract our circle until it becomes one, and this could be as one man in one heart. By that, I protect everyone and myself inside everyone, ensuring that we're advancing toward greater connection and adhesion.

Student: But where does the relation to the Creator come here as a result of my action towards the friends?

M. Laitman: It comes when we constantly aim ourselves more precisely toward the Creator, who's the center of our connection, He is the goal.

Student: So, as a result of the action that I do to awaken the heart of the friends, ultimately, who merits their relation to the Creator, me or the friends?

M. Laitman: Everyone.

Student: And what does this attitude give us that we didn't have before?

M. Laitman: It was a starting point, the previous state.

Student: Once we attain this attitude, this relation, what happens?

M. Laitman: We are in a new state. We attain a new state.

Question (MAK 25): (07:45) If you can please clarify, what does it mean that day-to-day utters speech and night-to-night expresses knowledge?

M. Laitman: That means how we accumulate inside ourselves impressions. When days and nights pass, and degrees, and sensations, and what does it all leads us to. But eventually, we all come to a state where we have a vessel and we can feel our true state.

Student: So, maybe it's clear that the matter of the night-to-night expresses knowledge because we rise above the state. But what does it mean day-to-day utters speech? What opens up to us in the day?

M. Laitman: Day and night are our states, states that we receive by coming closer to the Creator, on the way to the Creator. Therefore, we haven't much to worry about beyond the idea that these states will change and will replace one another. And then we'll get through them quickly and easily.

Question (Haifa 3): (09:59) In order to awaken the heart of the friends, what is allowed besides giving them a personal example and praying? What's allowed to not annoy them?

M. Laitman: Pray for them. Simply pray for them. Ask the Creator to shine for them the current state, and from the current state, they'll see the path toward the end of correction.

Student: Only prayer?

M. Laitman: Prayer, certainly. What else can we do? Nothing.

Question (Kyiv 1): (10:58) You said to strengthen our circle. What does it mean in the Ten?

M. Laitman: So that we become closer. Not that the Creator will always be ahead of us, but that the common vessel will be ahead of us. The Creator is the light, is what fills us. But with the help of what can we obtain nearness to Him? With a more complete vessel.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (11:53) In the excerpt, he mentions first the states of day and night, which is work during the day and during the night, in darkness. And at the end, he says that it turns out, from the states that a person goes through, that you must awaken the heart of the friends. So, what's the connection between the work in day and night and awakening the heart of the friends that he writes about here?

M. Laitman: That's the work. That is the work. When we wish to awaken the heart of the friends so all of us would connect, and inside this connection of ours, we would reach what is required of us.

Student: He also writes here that we tell the Creator, “For you is the night and for you is also the day,” that the night too, meaning the darkness of night, it comes from the Creator to man's favor too. It's unclear how the darkness of night, which are states where a person can fall, and in its darkness, he can fall there. How is that for man's favor as well?

M. Laitman: It awakens a person more than the day, because man, with his vessels of reception, he cannot stand the darkness, the night, the absence of knowledge, disorientation. He wants to come out of it. And then it works on him in such a way that it extracts him forcefully from the state.

Student: I also noticed that in the darkness, if I look at myself, the friends, there's a limit to which a person can go in the dark without falling and without holding on to something. How should a person work correctly with the darkness? How does he work correctly with the darkness?

M. Laitman: There are such discernments in the darkness, many discernments. There's a general darkness over the group, over the Ten. There's more in personal darkness over the person. Accordingly, we need to try and be as close as possible to the light. And by that, we pull ourselves from darkness to light.

Student: And the darkness is something a person should also see as an opportunity?

M. Laitman: Certainly.

Student: A person makes an effort in the darkness, in faith above reason, to hold on to the friends, but there's a point where he breaks. And it's like a limit that he reaches, and then he needs to hold on to something.

M. Laitman: His friends.

Student: There's a state where the person despairs, and then he can hold on to external things because he feels that it's hard. What's the most correct action a person should do when he feels that he reached the edge and he's about to fall?

M. Laitman: After all the efforts, he needs to feel that he has nothing left but to be in the hands of the friends.

Student: This congress in three days, it starts, and it feels like there's strong preparation from the friends. It's also a special time, Sukkot. It's this feeling of Tishrei holidays, it's a very powerful, the high holidays is a very powerful time. What should we focus on or what's the right opportunity, what's the actual opportunity in this Congress?

M. Laitman: We need to try and, let's say, from now until the end of the Congress to constantly feel ourselves more contracted, more assembled, more embraced, more one, because accordingly, we'll feel our place in the Creator.

Student: Concern for the friends, that is, yes?

M. Laitman: Yes. Yes, yes.

Question (Turkiye 1): (17:38) How can the Ten turn to the Creator all the time whether it's states of day or night?

M. Laitman: That is our craft. How much we can feel ourselves constantly connected to the Creator, both during states of day, and during states of night, and never apart from it. That is our craft. There are efforts here, our efforts, and a prayer to the Creator to hold us, hold us up.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (18:39) It feels like the world Kli is ready for this now. There are a few elements here. First to remember the friends all day and all night, and then there's also a matter of asking for the friends, and then being one, and there are also the states of day and night. Do they also change accordingly?

M. Laitman: I don't know what you're thinking. Day, means that the light of the Creator shines to us, shines on us, the upper light, and we feel the force, the direction of development. And night is the opposite, the darkness of the night.

Student: This is the state of Adam, of a person, an individual, but if he feels the Ten, will day and night feel differently?

M. Laitman: No, generally speaking, it's felt like this. Day, during the day we feel the forces that can connect and we embrace, and we are drawn toward the goal, and the night is the opposite. At the beginning of the feeling, we don't have a specific state we can discern in advance from.

Student: Rav says, “we feel,” is that the person feels or the Ten feels?

M. Laitman: Both, the Ten, less than the Ten, more than the Ten, we have to start feeling what's happening with the other, to try as forcefully as possible not to get away from the connection between us, because our future depends only on that, when we reach our exalted goal, and that's how it must be.

Student: So, when a person feels that he has day, and he thinks that the friend is at night, or the other way around it, so, is that day or night?

M. Laitman: If I feel myself in the day, and I feel the friends are in a state of night, then certainly I need to see the group according to how I feel the friends, that they are in a state of night. And then I need to do everything within my power to bring them closer to the state of day.

Student: What if it's the other way around, that a person thinks he's at night and the friends are at day?

M. Laitman: And also there, he has to bring himself to adhesion in the friends.

Student: And all of that, basically for each such action, we have to ask the Creator for help, right?

M. Laitman: That's clear, there's no action without asking for help. Every action is ultimately a prayer, a request.

Student: There's day and night for the person, and what he thinks he sees in the friends. What does it mean to be one in every one?

M. Laitman: To be one in everyone means that we feel as one man in one heart. There's nothing in the world except for our connection, there's nothing. Everything else is imaginary.

Student: When Rav says, it's not necessarily that we do it and we feel that we do it now, we can also be in distance and feel as one.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (H 10): (23:40) In the process you've explained of building the Kli in the Ten, how to identify the point of prayer, specifically how to find it, what to pay attention to?

M. Laitman: To detect the center of the Ten. It's possible when all of us wish to be assembled and close together, tightly together in the Ten, as one, meaning, all in all, we need to check ourselves and work as one man in one heart, as we call it. That's what we need. It's not that difficult to understand and to start carrying this out. Later, of course, we'll have other problems, but for now, it's just to make such an effort.

Student: Can we say it is the most egoistic state? What I can identify, is that the point of prayer, actually?

M. Laitman: No, it's a state you have in you, yes. It's a state that exists in you.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (25:29) I have fear that I cannot awaken the friends. What is the role of the fear on the way to the Congress and the prayer?

M. Laitman: To be incorporated in one heart, to help everyone by embracing them, by making efforts to come closer to them, and they to come close to you, and to be together with the Creator in a single point. That's what we need to try and do. That's the correct form of the vessel.

Question (Almaty): (26:25) You say that we have to be as one whole, be united. Where exactly should we be united in our address to the Creator? Where exactly to be united? It's not here in the physical world.

M. Laitman: The center of our desire.

Student: What is the center of our desire?

M. Laitman: The desire that exists in each one's heart. It's a unification of the hearts that gives us the feeling of the center, where we need to feel ourselves in.

Question (PT 35): (27:26) What does it mean in the work between us, the friends, that we are closer to the light?

M. Laitman: It means that the fact that you're in a single Ten, and you are studying together, and you're reading excerpts together, typically by Rabash, and you're capable of being more than every one, of being able to reach one desire, one thought, to feel one goal. And in this way, you advance together.

Student: What is the action that brings us closer to the light in the reading itself?

M. Laitman: You wish to build such a desire of yours, such a common desire in which you feel just how much you are growing, pulling in the Creator to it.

Question (W Turkiye 7): (29:11) If each friend is in a different state of day or night, how do we practically stand guard?

M. Laitman: Only through these exercises. Through these exercises. Let's imagine ourselves that we are together in a single desire. And in this way, we are drawn to that place, all of us together. We all embrace one another to be in it. And how much will we embrace? Until nothing remains in our corporeal state. We connect, when we hug one another, and all of us like that, ten, twenty people together, to such an extent that we don't feel people one by one, rather all of us together feel that we share a single body, a single desire, a single feeling, we're all incorporated in that. Let's try.

Question (W Moscow 8): (31:25) What stands at the basis of standing guard, this action?

M. Laitman: I don't let myself fall from this level of the connection, which is the center, the averaged out center between us in the Ten, and that's how we advance.

Student: Please explain, can the fear stand at the basis of the action?

M. Laitman: Of course, of course, fear can be there.

Question (W Latin 26): (32:15) What is the best prayer to awaken our friends in the state of day, and what's the prayer for the state of night?

M. Laitman: In prayer, the most important for us is the goal, that we wish to be as one man in one heart, as it's written, and that we would want to remain in it forever. That's it, just to be in it. And by that, we'll begin to scrutinize more and more specific individual states of our connection.

Question (W Heb 1): (33:18) I wanted to ask about states of darkness. How do I not fall to them and hold on to the states of day, because sometimes it feels like it grabs hold of you, and you can't lift, and the feeling is you don't advance, you really want to, but you kind of fall. So, how do we pull ourselves out of there to not get stuck and go forward?

M. Laitman: I only have one counsel, one advice: to think about the point of connection of all of us, and that everyone is there except for you, and you also wish to reach it, to reach that state. Try it.

Question (W Spa): (34:49) What does it mean that the Ten has a mutual ear? What do we need to pay attention to in order to reach the Congress with that mutual ear?

M. Laitman: We constantly, on our path to the Congress, and also the beginning of the Congress, we constantly learn more and more how to be connected more and more, bonded. This is our goal. And in this connection, we will then discover what else is included for us in that point of connection.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (35:43) Every sentence you say in this lesson touches the heart deeply. Another sentence and another sentence is really focusing us on connection. How to not run away from the connection?

M. Laitman: How not to run away from it? It's only through these exercises. Only through these exercises. We read articles, we speak about them. Each one hears something from the friend, is incorporated in him. And that's how we advance.

Reader: We will read excerpt number 5. Rav Rabash writes,

Reading: (36:32) 5. RABASH, Letter No. 8

At the end of the day, this is a group of people who have gathered in a certain place, under a certain leader, to be together. With superhuman courage they face up to all those who rise against them. Indeed, they are brave men with a strong spirit, and they are determined not to retreat one inch. They are first-class fighters, fighting the war against the inclination to their last drop of blood, and their only wish is to win the battle for the glory of His name.

M. Laitman: Yes, that's what we need to feel in our work.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (37:49) The yearning to be together with you, to sit with you in the Sukkah together in this holiday. We want to focus. There are many scrutinies about day and night. It's clear that in the work of day and night, the darkness of night creates new vessels, which we acquire something new if we aim our hearts correctly towards the friends. There are cases in which you feel the darkness, but you don't succeed, or you don't come to even the memory of being able to return to the friends. What's the benefit in these cases then altogether? Is there a benefit?

M. Laitman: There is a benefit, in every case there's a benefit. And also, now I might not feel them, but they are in me. And it will rise from lack of feeling to a feeling, and I'll start working in them again. But I don't criticize these states. These states. But I only look ahead. I only look ahead more and more to be aware, to be aware that I feel what the Creator sent me.

Student: I wanted to ask whether a person has the possibility to work so that these states will always be in this memory; that there is a Creator, that there is somewhere to return to, to not get lost at nights?

M. Laitman: Right. There is a benefit by being in contact every day. And every day we want to see ourselves connected. And I'm sure that we'll see results from this.

Student: At night, we acquire new vessels, new coarseness. What do we acquire in the days?

M. Laitman: In the days, we feel the lights that surround us. And we get a bit of something from them, even though our vessel is still very, very small. That's how it works.

Question (Kyiv 3): (41:40) About day and night. What is the stand guard all day and all night?

M. Laitman: Even though different states change inside me more or less, the relation between us, between the friends to go deeper, or maybe we move away from one another, and so on. Still, I constantly look for being as close as I can to them, in one covenant, in one group.

Student: If you already feel that closeness, is that already considered day? If I feel that everything is illuminated and good?

M. Laitman: If everything's clear, and I know what I need to ask for from the Creator, usually to connect with Him, so, yes, that means that I'm in the state of the day.

Student: And on that day, in that state, what should we be cautious with?

M. Laitman: What to watch out for? Nothing. You just have to hold on to the point of connection between us. And to think of how my efforts will help everyone, all the friends, to connect even more in that point.

Student: Well, it's written here that the night, too, we attribute to the Creator. So, I feel the night. And I say to myself, what do all my scrutinies begin from? I say that that, too, comes from the Creator. And then what needs to happen with me?

M. Laitman: Then you start the connection from that state with your friends. Then that night becomes day.

Student: It's written here that specifically from that, it turns out that you need to, you must awaken the heart of the friends until the flame rises, etc. Is that my commitment, am I obliged, or is it the Creator that's obliging me?

M. Laitman: It doesn't matter if it's the Creator or you yourself. You must awaken the hearts of the friends. Meaning, the most important thing for you is to be connected with the friends, all the friends, and awaken their hearts.

Question (MAK): (45:20) We're truly in the preface of the Convention, and there's this feeling that everyone who's going to be present will have to add more labor to get to our common prayer. Can you tell us, what is that exertion, this excessive exertion that each of us must put forth?

M. Laitman: Connection, for the sake of, in the center of the connection, you'll be able to feel the Creator.

Question (W Moscow 6): (46:18) What warriors do we need to be in the convention?

M. Laitman: During the convention, we need to fight each one with his inner disturbances. And, in this way, connect between us, that we'll feel and understand one another, in one desire. From that desire, we can ask for revelation of the Creator.

Question (W Spain 1): (47:38) What can we do so that our ego surrenders? Because the ego is constantly growing and resisting the connection in the Ten.

M. Laitman: So, from this, we need to understand that all of that resistance of the ego is also help from above. The advantage of light from the darkness. And we need, even though there's darkness, we need to come closer to the state that's called day, and to attain it by the connection between us.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (48:45) That's the question. How, from the state of darkness, when there's resistance, and the ego is kicking this connection, how do you progress? How do you advance?

M. Laitman: I think that what we need to do in this case is to understand that in the darkness, when the darkness is controlling, specifically there we can connect. Try. Try and be in the darkness, that you feel that you have no beam of light. Along with that, you really want to be connected, because only by that, you'll bring this picture that seems like darkness, then it can start shining, illuminating. That's what needs to happen.

Student: What precisely brings that ray of light into the darkness? What changes reality? What causes that?

M. Laitman: My desire. My desire.

Student: What is this force of my desire? What desire is it?

M. Laitman: My desire works on the Creator, that it brings into the form of darkness a bit of a scrutiny.

Student: What is my desire? What can I do with my desire? How do I activate my desire? What is the desire that's activating my desire?

M. Laitman: I want to see the darkness, this current darkness, how it brings me the form of my state. And then, through the form of the darkness, I start seeing the dawn rising.

Question (Karmiel): (52:04) Here, in the excerpt, it's beautifully described about the warriors who go without fear. You speak here very nicely about these warriors who are advancing undoubtedly. But that's the problem. How do we get rid of these doubts?

M. Laitman: There's no way to get rid of them. Only together. When we hold on to each other, when we work together on a certain excerpt by Rabash, then we'll be able to come out from the darkness to the light. And not to get lost on the path, but only to acquire.

Question (Karmiel): (53:01) What's the importance of being together in one Ten in the Congress? What's the importance of being together in the Congress in one Ten?

M. Laitman: You try to be connected every time in a certain way, and if you still didn't feel what it means, what it's called connection, then you have to try it, especially in the Convention. And then you'll see as much as it's beneficial. Because the Convention is the place to congregate.

Question (Spain 1): (53:57) It's written that with great bravery, they stand above human possibility, rise against all those who stand against them. How to defeat all those who rise against us? How to feel them, and for them not to defeat us?

M. Laitman: How do we stand against all those who come against us?

Student: Yes, the way it's written.

M. Laitman: Only the connection between us. That's how each and every one has the forces. By us connecting together, we connect through our forces to the purpose of creation, and then we succeed. By that feeling the force of the group, we can raise ourselves to a higher feeling, to a higher connection.

Question (W Rehovot 1): (55:29) He writes in number four, to awaken the hearts of the friends until the flame increases in that way, they will receive the love of the Creator upon us. What does that mean?

M. Laitman: It means that we need to speak and share our inspiration from going from one state to the next, as much as it's all in us, and only to be drawn ahead. Only to be drawn ahead.

Student: Does a person have to demand to be always in labor? Will that be realistic?

M. Laitman: Yes. In somewhat, yes. Not a hundred percent in exertion. That's crazy, no. But we have to be constantly in that tendency.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (57:14) If during the Convention, because of work, a friend cannot arrive physically or know how to participate in the Convention, how can those friends who are there in attending the Congress, how can they connect those friends that can't be there?

M. Laitman: Connect whichever way you can. Through some kind of instruments, devices, whatever devices you have, phones, or do everything you can.

Question (German 3): (58:03) I see that many of the friends are not ready for the congress, internally. Maybe it hurts to hear this, but the truth is that that's how it is. Because each feels only himself, and we are in this state together where we don't even manage to understand where we are. We're somewhere there, and it's really not clear where.

M. Laitman: I understand, that's your problem. Now you have to aim yourself to the connection between all of you, whatever will be. And this way you will be ready for the Convention. I can promise that. But you have to do it right now. And try to correct all this, to connect between you to one big group. And succeed.

Reader: We will conclude this lesson with a very special excerpt from Maor VaShemesh, number six.

Reading: (59:49) 6. Maor VaShemesh, The Meaning of Rosh Hashanah

The main path of repentance is to unite our hearts in love of friends, to unite with each one with love and with one heart, to serve the Creator and work shoulder to shoulder, connect with one another and be locked in each other’s heart, to be one bundle, to serve the Creator wholeheartedly.
