Part 2:

Baal HaSulam. The Love of God and the Love of Man (Why Was the Torah Not Given to the Patriarchs?)

Reading (00:20)

1. R. (02:05) So we see that no one has the forces to do anything. It is all by holding each other. Only in the forces of Arvut and connection.

Reader continues (03:02) “This answers why the Torah was not given…” Twice

2. S. Missing translation.

R. (05:18) From 20 years onward, it means when a person comes into a state where he has ten Sefirot of direct light and ten Sefirot of reflected light and then he can work in order to bestow. Don’t pay attention to numbers.

3. S. (06:00) The state of six thousand years of the soul leads me to think about something that is kind of utopian versus the reality that I live in. How to overcome how it seems so impossible in my eyes to reach that?

R. That does not matter, possible or not possible. What you are doing is giving the Creator and opportunity to help you, not that you yourself have to do anything but give the Creator an opportunity to make the right vessel out of you. Not that you are doing or making the right vessel on your own. So that is why just to perform actions that are demanded of you and the rest, about that it is written that the Creator will finish the work for me. That is it.

4. S. (07:23) If we do not need to pay attention to numbers he says here 600,000 at first there were few and then they became 600,000 what are these numbers? What do they mean, coarseness?

R. We will learn what the numbers mean. Kabbalists in this way established the degrees of lights, the vessels, reflected light, direct light, records. It is in order to name it in such a way but not that it is worth it for us to start comparing between all of these names. 600, 600,000, 6000, 24, 10, 5 and 2 there are a lot of numbers and I do not think it is worth touching it because what is important is not what you are calling a number but what the number itself symbolizes and because we do not know that yet, it is not worth getting confused about it. It will gradually be revealed and from that revelation you will see as much as it is essential.

5. S. (09:08) If all the numbers here are spiritual matters then what are the Patriarchs in the ten? What does it mean that they didn't receive the Torah? How can we understand it in our language?

R. The Patriarchs are called Keter, Hochma and Bina. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Above them is the upper force, Creator. Keter is divided into a few parts and the Patriarchs, the fathers, are Keter, Hochma and Bina and then the sons Hesed, Gevura, Tifferet and so on.

S. So what does it mean that they became a nation? What does that mean? That it has to be a big group like he says. How does the process work here if it is not numbers from our world, what is it then that brings the Torah to the person?

R. Torah comes to the person by connecting with his friends together and together with them wants to connect to the upper force of bestowal and then they start receiving corrections from that and fulfillments.

7. S. (10:45) This expression “we shall do, and we shall hear” what is it about? To hold on to the intention correctly.

R. It is that first we have to do what the Torah demands of us and then we need to hope that we get a payment for it and this payment will be expressed by the force of bestowal that we will feel that is growing in us.

8. S. (11:32) I am still new to the wisdom of Kabbalah. So the Creator created a desire called Israel and there is the desire of Israel and the land of Israel. How do we understand this correctly?

R. Israel is called Yashar El meaning aimed straight to the Creator. Isra-el, Yashar El, straight to the Creator if a person goes in that direction that he wants to reach an understanding and awareness and attainment of the Creator he is called Israel, each and every one. Whoever has that direction. That is it, simple. Don't confuse yourself with all kinds of other philosophies.

9. S. (13:00) Why do we need a complete nation to carry out the Arvut?

R. For the law of Arvut to take place you need a complete vessel that each one will hold each one and if you will be lacking something it won’t be a complete vessel and it will not have the force of Arvut. The Arvut comes from the Creator, this force it’s the upper light that is revealed between everybody. If a number of people 600,000 let's say, connect between them it is not according to the number of humans, it is a force. That is what it is called. So if they connect between them they have a force that is called Arvut that we all hold everybody else.

10. S. (14:00) He asks if in 50 years there will be a person that will be able to decipher the Torah in Kabbalistic terms if someone will be able to do it?

R. Of course every generation and its interpreters. Meaning every generation people come who are more developed in spirituality than the environment and they can explain to the environment what their role is, the people in this world and what they need to do and that is how it is in each and every generation. We are in the end of the generations as Baal HaSulam writes in the generation of the end of correction. Meaning that we are already able to be in a vessel that is advancing towards the general correction. That we and with us all of humanity will be rewarded with the upper light correcting us, connecting between us, and filling us that we will all be in adhesion with a Creator.

11. S. (15:37) What does it really mean to take care of the friend with all of his soul and might?

R. Like for himself. Simple. We do not have any other example.

12. S. (16:14) In the article I heard that the Torah cannot be carried out in a small number of people, on the other hand we work in Arvut in the ten. How does it coincide?

R. We have to start connecting in the ten and according to our attempts the Creator will already give us a bigger vessel.

Reading (16:44) “All of Israel are responsible for one another”

13. R. (17:01) Israel meaning whoever is aimed to reach the Creator so all those people who are yearning to reach the Creator, revealing Him they are called Israel and if they are really aimed in that direction then they are in Arvut, they are in responsibility for one another.

Reader Continues (17:24) “Furthermore, Rabbi Elazar, son of Rabbi…”

14. R. (23:11) Okay there are a lot of things here we won’t be able to interpret at all. We only have ten minutes left so let us see what the women are asking and the rest we will continue tomorrow.

15. S. (23:25) Why did they say, “we shall do, and we shall hear”?

R. Because we need to do what we need to do in order to open the force of bestowal called Bina which is also called listening. hearing.

16. S. (23:48) Are we Bnei Baruch in a state of “we shall do, and we shall hear”? What do we lack to be responsible for each other?

R. We are still not in that in general but there are already a few that are a bit in it.

17. S. (24:09) 600,000 men 20 years and on who were asked if they each agree to accept this work and sublime goal. When a person agrees to this work and goal he is already in a state where he feels that he is not alone but with the friends? How do you come to such a readiness?

R. That is what we are trying to do. We want the force of the Arvut in order to reach that state where we each hold each other and come close to one another and incorporate into one another and from our incorporation each one that is incorporated with the forces of the other then each one of us will be corrected in something and then all of us together become a complete Partzuf, a big spiritual Partzuf. That is already the Partzuf of Gmar Ha Tikkun.

18. S. (25:15) If there will be six hundred thousand who will care for me then I can bestow but until I have that I cannot? So should I ask the Creator to have 600,000 others who will care for me?

R. The system is organized in a way that you do have the 600,000. You do not need to worry about that. You should worry about how much you are incorporated with them and help them. To that extent you automatically get support from them.

19. S. (25:53) Still it is unclear why the Torah was not given to the Patriarchs; both the question and the answer are not clear.

R. They did not have sufficient forces for it because they had a small number and in that small number of participants you cannot keep the Arvut. That is why they had no vessel ready according to the

quantity of people they had in connection to discover the upper force, the Creator. He had to have as we say 600,000 that is a complete whole vessel. That is why the Torah was not given to the Patriarchs.

S. (26:45) Who are those who are the sinners and what is my Arvut and how is it expressed towards the friends in all the world.

R. Those are the ones to begin with that are willing to keep the Arvut and they are brought to the group for it, but they do not want to add their own forces in there. That is why they disturb the others from reaching Arvut.

R. (27:32) So what we were speaking about now, there are questions from the men but if not now so we will talk about them later. I am aware that the lesson today is a bit stuck as happens every so often. There are reasons for it, but we will try and revive it tomorrow and keep scrutinizing more details.
