Part 2: Rabash, 570. General Attainment and Personal Attainment

Reader: We are reading The Writings of Rabash, Article 570, “General Attainment and Personal Attainment”.

Reading: (00:15) Rabash, 570. General Attainment and Personal Attainment

General Attainment and Personal Attainment

There is a difference in seeing between general attainment and personal attainment.

“General attainment” means that one attains the matter in general. For example, when one sees a big city from afar and sees from afar that people are walking about in the city, and sees signs of houses, this is called “general seeing,” meaning that all the details are included in the city.

This means that even though afterward he approaches the city and enters it, and sees each detail separately, such as the beauty of the city, the shape of the houses, the gardens, the towers, and the wealth of the city, that there are many factories and stores filled with abundance and all kinds of merchandise that exist in the world, many banks, and the mentality of the people, good people and bad people, educated and ignorant, the beauty of people, if they are great or small and so forth, but nevertheless, this does not add anything to the general, meaning that from afar he saw a city, and so he does now.

When he is asked, “Where were you?” he replies, “I was in the city,” meaning both from afar and from nearby; it is all the same city.

The benefit of the details is that now he has impressions from what he saw inside the city, which he did not have before. Although when he was outside the city, he knew that there were many details, he still did not have impressions. When he was in the city, he could enjoy all the details that he could not enjoy from the city in general.

It follows that personal attainment is the main pleasure and delight, as it brings him vitality when he comes to know the details. This is not so with the general.

This applies in every single state, whether good or bad, since when he sees a situation that is bad in person, he is impressed by the bad feeling and can correct it, for the bad feeling brings him to reveal hidden forces, which he uses and finds profound tactics to be saved from the bad.

It is the same with a good situation. That is, in general, he knows that he has abundance, yet he does not have the feeling of impression of how much he can enjoy, since he lacks the details about all those things. For this reason, he cannot give praise and gratitude to the Creator as much as he should.

Since man’s greatness depends primarily on one’s attainments, and one does not attain except when he gives praise and gratitude to the extent of the attainment that he has been given, therefore, he must try each time to delve into the details so he can be impressed by the details and be able to give the proper praise and gratitude, and then he will go ever upward.

M. Laitman: That’s it. Questions?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (05:44) What does it mean to enter the details?

M. Laitman: Probably, into the details that can be revealed to a person – what there is in the city, in the place where he is interested; and they cannot be revealed.

Student: I'm asking on behalf of a person, what does it mean that he enters and recognizes some details?

M. Laitman: It depends on his vessels, to the extent that he has a deficiency in his vessels. And according to the deficiency, he wants to fill them.

Student: When a person wants to ascribe himself to one point, to the point of adhesion. What does it mean that he recognizes the details? He wants to adhere, so everything that comes to him deviates him. So, what does it mean that he recognizes or identifies all those details? How can you aim yourself?

M. Laitman: First, he needs to see, in general, what it means to attain. Attain things in general, and attain things in particular, in detail, and then he directs himself more correctly.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (07:40) It seems that the central point, here, is that he is searching for reasons to constantly be in praise and gratitude. He says to try and go into the details in order to get inspiration by them and then he will be able to give gratitude and praise. So, how can that be the main reason, the main thing, to be in gratitude and praise, and all the other details are just the means to reach it?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, how to hold that, that every moment in life a person will want to be in praise and gratitude?

M. Laitman: It depends on the society, on the extent to which the whole society around a person yearns to reach it, to achieve it. And then he, too, will yearn after them.

Student: Yes, so the atmosphere, the spirits, and society around that?

M. Laitman: Yes, the control of the society over a person.

Student: And then the details can be revealed.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, how not to fall? That the details themselves, they also give joy and pleasure?

M. Laitman: He needs to go with the details, connect with them and see his future in this.

Student: How, through the details, how are they connected to the future?

M. Laitman: That his future will be connected to the details in the society, to the individuals in the society.

Student: But there's also pleasure in revealing the details?

M. Laitman: But he needs to work on it. What will really be his revelation, his greatness, his goal, so he doesn't remain as a little child, adhered like a child, small; but on the contrary.

Student: We should prefer the praise and gratitude, that the details will just be means for that.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, as I hear you, that only comes from the society.

M. Laitman: Yes, a person cannot resist it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (10:17) In his work in love of others, in going deeper in the connections between us, will bring us closer to more and more stronger gratitude?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: In which way, how is one connected to the other?

M. Laitman: To the extent that we yearn to come to thank the Creator, to that extent, we nevertheless want to be connected among ourselves. And from the desire to connect among us, we also, we reach the goal. It's in the same direction, it's not contradictory.

Student: The question is in a bit of a different direction: We just finished a very successful Convention; we all felt a great ascent. And before the Convention, you said that afterwards, we will go into some kind of work in entering Lishma, that we have great work in it. Can you give us some direction if we are already stable on advancing ahead to Lishma to open deeper vessels?

M. Laitman: I would put it this way: After the Congress, we need to feel where we have a grip. Is our gripping point on our way, is it a point that constantly is getting closer to the center of the society? And that the center of creation, the center of the society will be connected with the Creator. So, it's as if we have here two conditions that have to be connected into one point at the real center of nature. That's it.

Student: Is the work between us, does it get some kind of different direction, or is it the same direction but just to go deeper in that connection?

M. Laitman: Only to go deeper; for now, we don't need to turn ourselves to anywhere.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (14:02) The details, that he said through that you attain the whole. So, the whole is the force of None Else Besides Him, He will be filled with all His glory, love, and bestowal. So, how can I find that in the details? What are the details that He fills everything. I don't understand all the way.

M. Laitman: The details are all the general things that build the collective.

Student: What does that mean?

M. Laitman: That the collective, or the whole, is made of them.

Student: How does an individual, or a detail point to the collective, to the general? To love, bestowal, connection? What is that, what details are they? Is it the friends, what is it?

M. Laitman: They are desires to receive that exist in each one, in everyone.

Student: Isn’t that desire to receive the opposite? The opposite of the force of bestowal?

M. Laitman: Well, so, it’s whether it's with or without correction but they exist in every detail, in everyone, every individual.

Student: It also came up in the previous article that I want to connect to the friends, I want to want for them. Not to deal with myself, to run away from the will to receive. I don’t know how to search for it in the friends, to just want them to feel good, in general?

M. Laitman: In the central desire, in each and every one, he has a connection with the central desire of all of reality with the Creator. And I want to see them connected together, these points, right? And also come to be connected in them.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (16:42) A person who connects to his friends in the Ten in love and bestowal, is that personal attainment?

M. Laitman: It’s a personal attainment because he is connected to it, he doesn’t attain it. So, this is called “personal attainment.”

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (17:34) And there is a higher state of general attainment that the connection in the Ten have more connective details?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (17:36) He writes about the feeling of bad, so he writes that he is inspired by the bad feeling. And from the details he sees, he gets impressions. What is the purpose of impressions in the Ten?

M. Laitman: This is what activates him. Activates him.

Student: So, maybe he attains, he sees, but he is lacking the impressions?

M. Laitman: Could be.

Student: So, what’s that degree of reaching impressions?

M. Laitman: To the extent that it’s close to his heart.

Student: He says that from the bad feeling, he can correct it. That the feeling of bad will help him reveal concealed forces. What concealed forces does a person discover from feeling bad?

M. Laitman: That in feeling bad, there are hidden forces, which aren’t really hidden – which is why he is not in the struggle with evil. And in another case, he discovers his relation to, he reveals his relation to the evil. That he wants to destroy it and diminish it and not take it into consideration; and this is how he advances.

Student: What does it depend on that a person will reach the revelation of evil?

M. Laitman: It depends on the environment and on the point in the heart.

Student: And this way he can open these concealed forces and correct the evil?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (19:40) I still don't understand how you enter into the details, or the individuals. We in the Ten connect and attain the greatness of the Creator, in general. What can we do to enter a certain detail, or individual, like he's saying here?

M. Laitman: That you want each and every individual in your whole society, which is usually a Ten, that you will come to some result.

Student: Let's say now, in general, we came to a feeling of the greatness of the Creator.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: It's something that you can't see any detail, everything seems whole.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: So, what should we add to enter a certain individual? To open a certain problem with a friend, to add it to the general collection? What is that individual once we attain the general force?

M. Laitman: I don't understand how you can attain the general force, if you don't attain the individual, in particular.

Student: We attain annulment in the Ten.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: We annulled all the details, we reach a feeling of one, one general whole. So, that's general attainment, it's not private attainment?

M. Laitman: No, it's not; it seems incorrect to me.

Student: I thought he's saying in this allegory, like about the wheat, that he has wheat, but he doesn't know that he can make cake, or all kinds of delicacies. That he just keeps the general form and doesn't advance beyond that. What can we do to not remain in general gratitude but to add?

M. Laitman: You need to add in personal labor and then you will come to a state where you can also be thankful in a personal manner.

Student: What deficiency do you have to open in the personal exertion?

M. Laitman: A deficiency to be more adhered, personally, to the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (22:40) He says that personal attainment is attaining the details. That a person is dealing with his will to receive, with his evil.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: When he deals with this – so a person is outside of holiness – and he runs from the bad back to the holiness. But there's something in the work that isn't complete every time he runs away. What's wrong in this type of work?

M. Laitman: I don't know.

Student: It's like the relation to the Creator is the means. We use Him as a means that He will take me from one state to the other.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And we don't find the details when we work with the will to receive. I feel a bad state; I use the Creator to take me to the good. Here, he's describing something different: That the work with the evil is where the details are. What should we get from the work with the will to receive?

M. Laitman: We need to read it, again. I don't know.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (24:23) You said to the friend that the details, or the will to receive, that exist in each one.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And he writes in the article that you need to be impressed by the details, by the individuals. What brings a person to be inspired by the individuals?

M. Laitman: I guess he sees them in each and every one. From that he gets an inspiration of the whole work.

Student: And how is it that each one is impressed by different things? Shouldn't we come to a state where we're impressed by the same thing, that we're going the same direction?

M. Laitman: No. For now, of course not.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (25:33) I'll go from the end to the beginning: It's written that in order to rise above, he has to be able to give the proper praise and gratitude, and for this, he needs to be impressed by the details. The details, we said are the will to receive that there is in our group. The will to receive that wants the Creator, wants to achieve adhesion. I have to identify it in the group, in the society.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: What do I do in order to identify it more strongly, more evidently? Does the evil incarnation put out this, seeing this in others prevents me from seeing this?

M. Laitman: No, you just connect more and more, restrict yourself more and more.

Student: If I restrict myself, will I feel more of the great will to receive that there is in others?

M. Laitman: Not yourself, your friends, together.

Student: So, if we are restricted, we will still feel the general evil according to the general will to receive that there is in us?

M. Laitman: You'll feel it according to the general desire as opposed to your personal desire.

Student: But if our desires are still small even if we connect them?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: My whole ability to give thanks and gratitude to the Creator depends on this, and this is what raises me.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, how can I identify, increase, our general will to receive?

M. Laitman: That depends on as much as you want to increase your friends in your circle, as opposed to the general will to receive.

Student: Let's say I understand it and detect it. If I want to increase, to augment, the friends, to exalt them. It's because of an egoistic desire that I want to rise because I suddenly feel incorrect. So, is it correct to work this way? If I want to rise, I understand, I have to exalt the friends. But then the prayer for the friends is egoistic.

M. Laitman: Correct. But you don't have any other possibility to incorporate in them but only to subdue yourself before them. To subdue yourself towards them.

Student: But it still doesn’t make the will to receive grow, so you can give praise and gratitude and rise. A person can diminish himself to an existing level, but then there is no augmentation of the will to receive, you only delete it. Now you want to give thanks and gratitude and rise, but it's impossible because it depends on our vessels, and they are small. So, a person is absolutely dependent on his generation. What there is is what he has to work with. So, how do we advance? By simply, slowly, waiting another 20 years for the will to receive to grow more? Is this the only way we can give thanks and gratitude?

M. Laitman: Supposedly, yes, but I don't think that that's a solution.

Student: So, what can be? What do we do?

M. Laitman: To depict to ourselves that we are in the whole correction. And on behalf of that whole, complete correction, from that to raise a deficiency. That we need to be in adhesion to the center of creation; and in this way ascend.

Student: And that gives an ascent to the individual and to the whole group?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (31:16) How can we now, as a Ten, go deeper into the matter of bestowal?

M. Laitman: According to my valuing the state, you are in a state right now that the gaps between you will show themselves a lot more than before. And then you'll have an ability to jump onto another degree. That's it.

Student: What does that mean?

M. Laitman: That means that you'll see the gaps between you a lot bigger. That each one is distant from the other. And that will give you an ability to rise even more.

Student: Thanks to what?

M. Laitman: Thanks to you asking to be closer.

Student: From the Creator.

M. Laitman: Of course, from the Creator. Closeness from the Creator and the force of the Creator will bring you closer, and in this way, you will rise even more.
