147. Everything is built with the letters of the alphabet, as in each degree that emerged there, were the twenty-two letters in the [Hebrew] alphabet. Thirty-two alphabets went until Israel stood on Mount Sinai. When Israel stood on Mount Sinai, the letters were collected, thirty-two alphabets, and were concealed in the inversion of the alphabet, and the Torah emerged comprised of thirty-two paths of the upper Hochma, and all the alphabet was inscribed in twelve boundaries and twelve tribes, except for two letters that departed from the twelve tribes, and they are Het-Tet, which were not seen in them at all.
148. When they first came to the Land of Israel, there was a boycott in them because of the sin of Achan, who broke the boycott, and then these two letters that departed from them returned, and declared and said, “Israel has sinned,” and these letters did not depart from them in each and every generation, although they were in the holy land.
149. Until Solomon came and built the Temple, and the worlds settled above and below in one form, where ZON, the worlds below, rose and clothed AVI, the worlds above, and became one form like them, since when the lower one ascends to the upper one, it becomes like him. At that time, all the letters were straightened and those two letters Het-Tet that were inscribed among them for the worse, for sin, were inverted into good, and returned to Tet-Het, as it is written, “And Judah and Israel dwelt safely.”
There is no degree in which there are no lights and vessels. The vessels of each degree are called “letters,” and everything is built and attained in letters, which are the vessels of all the degrees. From the time when the Vav of Enosh was revealed, the middle line, until the giving of the Torah, thirty-two alphabets were revealed, thirty-two paths of Hochma [wisdom], the Hochma of the left, which is revealed only through the middle line, which is called “Torah.”
Upon the giving of the Torah, that revealing of the thirty-two paths of wisdom was completed, and when Israel stood on Mount Sinai, the letters assembled, meaning that on Mount Sinai, all thirty-two alphabets assembled, the thirty-two paths of wisdom, and were completed.
However, there are two kinds of illumination in the alphabet: straight, and reversed. When the alphabet is straight, as is its way, the light shines in them from above downward, male light. In a reversed alphabet, Tav-Shin-Reish-Kof, the light shines only from below upward, female light.
It was said that they were concealed in the inversion of the alphabet, that the illumination of the thirty-two paths of wisdom was blocked so as to shine only in a reversed alphabet, in which Hochma shines only from below upward, and the illumination from above downward was concealed. This is so because of the correction of the middle line. Thus, the Torah came out comprised of thirty-two paths of the upper Hochma, for then that Hochma was revealed in all the completeness.
There are two points in Malchut: the key, the quality of mercy, and the lock, the quality of judgment. When a person merits, strengthening the right more than the left, it is good. If he does not merit and strengthens the left over the right, it is bad.
From good and bad, the two letters Het Tet shine in Malchut in two combinations, since Het is the illumination of the left, and Tet is the illumination of the right. They are extended to Malchut from the two pipelines right and left in Yesod of ZA, and if one merits and strengthens the right over the left, the point of the key governs and the point of the lock is concealed, and the combination Tet-Het is formed, where the Tet, the illumination of the right, governs, and the Het, the illumination of the left, surrenders to the right and becomes concealed.
Tach [blocked, comprised of Tet-Het] means cover and concealment, as it is written, “Their eyes were Tach [covered] from seeing,” implying the lock, which was covered and concealed. If they do not merit and strengthen the left over the right, the combination Het-Tet is made, where the Het, the left, controls the right. At that time, the point of the lock is revealed and removes all the lights, and it is bad. This is only in Malchut, but ZA is the tree of life, in which there is no grip to the bad, and these two letters Het Tet do not exist in it.
For this reason, there are three states in the two letters Het Tet: 1) When there are no Het Tet, there is no grip to the bad. This is in ZA and in the twelve tribes. 2) When the letters are in a combination of Tet-Het, when the left prevails over the right, it is “if he does not merit, it is bad,” which is in Malchut. 3) When the letters are in a combination of Tet-Het, when the right prevails over the left, it is “if he merits, it is good,” which is in Malchut.
Twelve boundaries are an incorporation of four phases with one another: the three lines of ZA and Malchut who receives them, which are HGTM. There should have been sixteen areas, since four times four is sixteen, but because Malchut is not incorporated in them but only receives, it is considered that there are three lines here and Malchut, which are HGTM, with three lines in each of the HGTM. Even in Malchut herself, only the three lines that she receives merit a name, and not more. For this reason, they are four phases with three in each one, and they are twelve and not sixteen.
When these twelve boundaries all shine in Malchut, they are called in her “twelve tribes.” You find that in the twelve boundaries and in the twelve tribes, there are only the three lines of ZA there, and Malchut is not regarded among them, except from the perspective of reception. Hence, they do not have in them the letters Het-Tet, which are the grip of the shells in the good and bad there are in Malchut, since ZA is the tree of life, in which evil does not grip, as in the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Malchut.
The entire alphabet was inscribed in twelve boundaries, which are HGTM, and in each of them three lines, which are in ZA. When all twelve tribes shine only in Malchut, they are called “twelve tribes,” and all this was completed in the giving of the Torah, except for two letters that departed from the twelve tribes, and these are Het-Tet, which were not seen in them at all.
This is so because in all twelve phases, there are only the three lines of ZA, and Malchut does not merit a name among them, but only in reception from them. In ZA, there is no grip to good and bad, to the two combinations Het-Tet and Tet-Het. Hence, these letters are not found in the twelve tribes. In the completeness of the giving of the Torah, there were no Het and Tet at all, and this is the first phase of the three phases.
Until they first came to the Land of Israel, where the Land of Israel is Malchut, and there was the boycott against them in the sin of Achan, who broke the boycott and strengthened the left over the right. At that time, the lock in Malchut awakened and the combination Het-Tet was made, and they declare and say “Israel has sinned,” that the combination Het-Tet has been revealed in Malchut, which is the meaning of “Israel has sinned,” meaning the state of “if he does not merit, it is bad,” which there is in Malchut. This is the second phase of the three phases.
Finally, Solomon came and these two letters Het-Tet that were inscribed among them for the worse, for sin, the combination Het-Tet, were inverted into good, and the Tet-Het returned, implying the prevailing of the right, Tet, over the left, Het. At that time, if he merits, it is good, and the lock is covered and concealed, namely the quality of judgment, and the quality of mercy rules over Malchut, and all the lights are revealed. Also, the combination Tet-Het implies the concealing of the quality of judgment, from the words “Their eyes were Tach [covered] from seeing,” implying covering and concealing. This is the third phase of the three phases, and in which there is all the wholeness.
150. All the letters had peace between them without any strife, since the middle line made peace between the right line and the left line in the letters, and incorporated them with one another, and all the letters of the alphabet are whole above, in ZA, and below, in Malchut. The upper letters are whole above, in ZA, and the thin letters are whole below, in Malchut, since the letters in Malchut are small.
151. When the Cherubim, ZON, would spread their wings from below upward, which is the correction of the screen of Hirik of the middle line, called “wings,” the letters would fly from below upward. That is, the letters that are left line, which shines only from below upward, while the letters of right and left permeate one another and incorporate in one another with kisses of love.
152. When the letters from the right and from the left connect with one another, all the lower and upper degrees, and all the worlds connect together and kiss one another with kisses of love, until they all become one, whose name is “one,” Malchut, and the Creator is one, who is ZA, without separation whatsoever.
153. All the kisses of love are only so they will be one collective, to be incorporated in one another without separation. For this reason, these kisses are in everything and everywhere, to make everything one collective: letters in letters, worlds in worlds, degrees in degrees, a woman with her husband, so that all will be one.
