Zohar. Introduction to The Book of Zohar, Second Commandment, §§198–203

Lesson 28|Jul 18, 2010
The commandments are degrees of spiritual advancement, by which we ascend to the level of complete correction, where we all unite into a single creation and adhere to the Upper Force, to the Creator. The Creator is the quality of bestowal, a nameless and bodiless quality of nature, having no form, and it reveals itself within us to the extent that we become similar to it. When we coincide with this unknown force even to some degree, we begin to feel it. Complete love is contact with the Creator, which we reach not driven by fear, but by the force of the selfless quality of bestowal, which makes no calculation of any reward. We must rise above our egoism to such a degree that we no longer think about balancing it with the Upper Force, but only about bestowal to the Creator. At this point a new kind of disturbance arises: egoism begins to work in the opposite direction, showing us as if there is no one from whom to receive, no one to bestow to, and therefore that we are at complete loss. Against this background, the only concern must be that despite the feeling of absence of connection with the Creator, we continue radiating the force of love. Complete Love is an unconditional, devoted attitude to the quality of bestowal, in which egoism is no longer an obstacle. Therefore, if the first spiritual degree is the degree of fear, where the quality of Bina is attained – the quality of absolute bestowal, then the second degree is complete love. A person who stands on the second degree reveals the secrets of existence, comprehends the entire universe, and becomes completely similar to the Creator.
