Part 1: Baal HaSulam. The Nation - the UMA paper
Reader: Hello, we shall be reading from the writings of Baal HaSulam, The Nation, the UMA paper, The Nation, by Baal HaSulam. You can find all the texts on kabbalahmedia.info, as well as through the Arvut system. Anyone asking a question here in the study hall is requested to stand up, hold the microphone close to his mouth, and speak loudly and clearly. Again, the writings of Baal HaSulam, The Nation.
Reading: (00:44) The Nation, Jerusalem, Dalet Sivan, Tav-Shin (June 5, 1940) Our Intention
This paper, The Nation, is a new entity on the Jewish street. It is an “inter-partisan” paper. And you may ask, “What does an ‘inter-partisan’ paper mean? How can there be a paper that can serve all parties together, despite all the opposition and contrasts among them?"
Indeed, it is a “being” that was born in dire straits, through hard and dreadful labor pains, from amidst the venom of hatred that had struck the nations of the world to obliterate us from the face of the Earth, the destruction of millions of our brothers, and they are prepared to do more. Their sadistic inclination is insatiable, and the calamity is twofold, for we cannot delude ourselves that all this is but a passing, transitory phenomenon, as with our past experiences in history, that if a nation erupts on us, we find a substitute in another.
However, now things are very different. Not only are we simultaneously attacked from all directions, but even the most developed nations have locked their doors before us without any sentiment of mercy or compassion, and in such a ruthless manner that is unprecedented in the whole of human history, even in the most barbaric times.
It is clear, save for relying on miracles, that our existence as individuals or as a nation is hanging between life and death. And the salvation is if we find the required ploy, that great scheme whose way is only to be found near danger, and which can tilt the scale to our favor—to give us a safe haven here for all our brothers in the Diaspora, as everyone says it is, at present, the only place of salvation.
Then the road of life will be open to us, to somehow continue our existence despite the difficulties. And if we miss the opportunity and do not rise as one, with the great efforts required at a time of danger, to guarantee our staying in the land, then the facts before us pose a great threat to us, since matters are developing favorably for our enemies, who seek to destroy us from the face of the Earth.
It is also clear that the enormous effort that the rugged road ahead requires of us mandates unity that is as solid and as hard as steel, from all parts of the nation, without exception. If we do not come out with united ranks toward the mighty forces that are standing on our way to harm us, we will find that our hope is doomed in advance.
And after all that, each person and party sits and meticulously guards its own possessions without any concessions. And under no circumstances can they, or more correctly want to reach national unity, as this perilous time for all of us requires. Thus, we are immersed in indifference as though nothing had happened.
Try to imagine that if some nation “showed us the door,” as is so common these days, it is certain that then none of us would think about our factional belonging, for the trouble would mold all of us into a single mush, to defend ourselves or to pack up and flee by sea or by land. Had we felt the danger as real, we would undoubtedly be properly united, too, without any difficulty.
Under these circumstances, we have met here—a small group of us, from all sects, people who sense the dreadful whip on their backs as though it had already materialized. They had taken upon themselves to publish this paper, which they believe will be a faithful channel through which to convey their sensations to the whole nation, with all its sects and factions, none excluded. By doing so, the contrasts and the narrow-minded factionalism would be canceled. More correctly, they would be silenced and make way to what precedes them, and we will all be able to unite into a single, solid body, qualified to protect itself at this crucial time.
And although this danger is known to all, as it is known to us, perhaps it has not yet sufficiently evolved in all the public, as it truly is. If they had felt it, they would have long ago shaken off the dust of factionalism to the extent that it obstructs the unity of our ranks. If this is not so, it is only because this sentiment is still not shared by many.
Hence, we have taken upon ourselves the publication of this paper, to stand guard, warn of the trouble, and explain it to the public, until all the segregating elements are silenced and we are able to meet our enemy with united ranks, and give it its duly response in time.
Moreover, we are confident that among us there are still those who search the hearts, who can provide a successful scheme that will unite all the factions in the nation. From experience, we have learned that specifically those people go unnoticed and have no listeners. In this paper, we are willing to make room for anyone who carries a guaranteed solution for uniting the nation, to publicize it and to sound it in the public.
In addition to all the above, by publishing this paper, we aim to defend our ancient culture of two thousand years, since before the ruin of our country. We aim to reveal it and clean it from the piles that have accumulated over it during the years of our exile among the nations, so that their pure Jewish nature will be recognized, as they were at that time. This will bring us the greatest benefit, for we will be able to find a way to connect our Diaspora mode of thinking with that glorious time and redeem ourselves from borrowing from others.
The Editors
M. Laitman: If there are questions, go ahead.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (12:02) In this nation, where is the roots for how in very difficult times, from its inception really. There's this, despite the suffering, despite the problems in the desert and other difficult states, they were always in difficult states but they cannot seem to stick together?
M. Laitman: This is as a preparation for correction, the correction this nation has to arrange and apply and do, go through; and set an example to all the nations.
Student: Baal HaSulam writes that we are like nuts in a bag. Even in that state, we cannot be.
M. Laitman: For the time being, yes, that is correct. But in between, throughout our history, we see that, although reluctantly, we come closer to one another. And we understand more, and somehow agree, that this could one time be relevant and practical. That this nation that used to live in separation for thousands of years – both corporeal and spiritual – and to this day, everything remains so. But that nation will ultimately rise and want to correct itself and pull all of humanity behind it.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (14:43) He writes that we are very experienced having witnessed history. And if some nation kicks us out, we find a different nation to be in. And you keep telling us, what the mind doesn’t do, time will. Today, it's been a year since what happened here on the 7th of October. What else needs to happen to these people so they understand that we need to unite here, to be one bundle?
M. Laitman: We have to learn, we have to learn our history, how much we constantly encounter same problems during our development. And we're unable to overcome them properly until they grow again, and once again, we are dealing with them. And this is how it goes from one year to the next.
Student: You truly give us a feeling that we're approaching a special era, a special time between us. Now, this small group he talks about here that decided to take upon itself – the Bnei Baruch, us. Can we truly take upon ourselves, carry this whole people, showing them the right way?
M. Laitman: I think that this group will be capable of taking upon itself the transition from what used to be during the times of Baal HaSulam and Rabash. And also, us, when we transition from these stages to the stage of the unity in the nation, and then around this unity, all of humanity will be able to see its future.
Student: Amen, may it be so. May we truly achieve our aims not just for our sakes but for the whole people.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (17:46) Now you say that the Israeli nation will ultimately be established and will want to correct itself and draw humanity after it. That whole manner of being established, rising, when will it rise?
M. Laitman: During our time, during our days.
Student: What will make it rise because for 2,000 years it's been dormant.
M. Laitman: Yes but from year to year, from day to day, the pressures are mounting. They're coming closer to the people of Israel. And all the nations of the world, seemingly, come together with these pressures and they claim that people of Israel are not doing what we're supposed to be doing. Everybody has all kinds of demands from us, so we have no other choice but to understand what is the reason behind this? What is the reason for this attitude which has been around for thousands of years, this kind of pressure. But lately, it's becoming practically impossible to traverse because never before in this reality was there such a thing where nations come and blame the people of Israel and disparage them so much. And want to make the people into nothing, a zero, and the fact that they give us, somehow, the possibility to exist. This is the kind of attitude for which we need to pay dearly.
Student: The more the nations pressure us, the nations pressure us more from day to day but we don't see any advancement towards a different direction, there's no change. So, I need to see a kind of balance, right, when there's more pressure, you need to see more unity of purpose? I don't see that happening.
M. Laitman: No, no, this means that we are stiff-necked people, extremely stubborn, we don't want to change anything about ourselves. Although all of us are under a lot of pressure, and people come to us with blows. We prefer to run away than to change.
Student: Right, so that's the question: When will this nation rise if it's so stubborn, the people are so stubborn?
M. Laitman: I think it has to be in our time because we have nowhere, everything the prophets have written about, the Kabbalists have written about, everything is done. Everything has already happened to us.
Student: So why don't we rise, why don't we see a broad awakening?
M. Laitman: I guess there needs to be a group who will discover the necessary connection, and it will bring the entire Israeli nation, and all the nations, afterwards to correction.
Student: He writes that there's the matter of the dust of factionalism which obstructs the forming of Franks, he wrote that a hundred years ago. Is it still our central problem in Israel?
M. Laitman: We have many problems inside the nation. We haven't arranged the Israeli nation, like all the nations or at least the way it needs to be. And that is why there's a problem to learn how we need to be.
Student: What is the central problem?
M. Laitman: We don't understand what is our role, what is our purpose? What are our duties toward the whole world, all of humanity? We need to learn about that and accept it, take it upon ourselves because this is the law of nature.
Student: And when you speak about a group that would rise and reveal the required connection?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Which group are you talking about?
M. Laitman: About us!
Student: Bnei Baruch?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: So, what are we lacking? What do we need to do in order to bring this people closer to the revelation of the Creator?
M. Laitman: To understand which role was assigned to us and what we need to do to fulfill it. Otherwise, there will be no way for us neither to run away nor to continue living the way we are.
Student: What else can we add? This importance, I think, is already imprinted on this group.
M. Laitman: Yes, but it's not bringing us to a solution, it doesn’t bring us to a connection between us, so we can be as one man in one heart. There’s room for work.
Student: So, to summarize, the problem is in us
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: In all of reality, the problem is the connection of Bnei Baruch.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: So, what to do?
M. Laitman: That will become clearer over time.
Student: What are we, Bnei Baruch, lacking now? How do we take another step so as to illuminate for the whole of humanity?
M. Laitman: As he is saying, only connection, connection between us so all the Bnei Baruch, or the entire nation, will feel that it must be closed, weaved, in such a way that it feels as one man in one heart. There is no other solution here.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (25:46) He says here that if we find the proper ploy, meaning the ploy which can be found only near danger. And then he also says that there needs to be strong, firm unity, as strong as steel. What is that ploy?
M. Laitman: The ploy, I think it's connection, through the right connection, we come to a state where we raise ourselves above everyone. We can set an example to all the nations on what should be the only form for everyone.
Student: When we say connection, it sounds simple, it doesn't sound like a ploy. A ploy is something devious, cunning, something unexpected.
M. Laitman: It's included in that, it's included. Connection is also something people cannot hear, it's something people run away from. It's obligating that's why it's all on us to bring it to everyone, and to convince, and to do.
Student: There are two phenomena which are irrational, which we find in Israeli, or rather human society. The first is antisemitism, hatred of Jews. Nobody understands why it exists, even people who've studied. The other thing is the unity between us, or rather the separation between us, which is always so strong. People are saying that after the 7th of October, since then we've already regressed back into absolute separation as it was before. Two phenomena which have no rational explanation. We need to find a solution to break forth.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: How can the connection between us as a group, how can it bring a solution to such issues which have no rational explanation?
M. Laitman: The connection between us can provide an example to all the nations, all the groups, all the individuals, on how much the solution to separation is connection. And when the number of groups that wish to do like us, grow, they will want to find a connection between them and this will come from above. And when we connect all of us together, those who understand humanity need to take a step forward here, toward its general connection. Accordingly, we can also present ourselves, show ourselves, and advance toward the general correction of creation.
Student: The connection between us is based on a personal search that each one of us has of the Creator, the upper force, whatever we want to call it. How can we convey that need for connection to humanity because connection, you know, you can connect around many things?
M. Laitman: No, no, we need to show humanity that we must accept connection the way Kabbalists explain to us, which means to be as one man in one heart, when each one is friends or connected with the others, friends with the others. There can be no other direction in life except toward being as one people, one nation.
Student: That's clear, we connect, not for the sake of connection, itself, as a value. We connect to attain something greater within the connection.
M. Laitman: That is us.
Student: Yes.
M. Laitman: So, those people who have a tendency in the heart for connection with the upper force. They reach a more internal connection and the less of an inclination they have toward connecting with the upper force, accordingly they become circles around that core.
Student: So, a person who has no inclination to connect with the upper force. Why would he want to connect at all? The forces of separation are more strong, apparently.
M. Laitman: So, the forces of separation are not stronger rather, they are the ones that will obligate humanity to nevertheless come to a single solution. The connection above everything is what saves us from death.
Student: So, connection as a goal, not as a means, by which to attain something.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (32:25) Baal HaSulam seems to suggest a solution here. He says that by this, all the factionalism, the narrow-minded factionalism will be revoked, or more correctly, it will be silenced and make room for what preceded them. So, I wanted to ask, what does that mean on the level of the nation that the conflicts will make room for what preceded them?
M. Laitman: The nation will see itself obligated by creation, by nature, to reach unity and connection and that there is no other problem before it. No other problem as poignant as this, as acute as this.
Student: This is something that awakens, and the people begin to feel that this is their root?
M. Laitman: I didn't understand?
Student: The part I got stuck on is where it says, they will make room for what preceded them. He says preceded, so something came before. I can't understand that exactly.
M. Laitman: Who can explain to him?
Reader: (33:55) Friend, maybe you should read the whole excerpt so it's clear.
Student: He writes, “they think it will be a good conduit to convey their feelings to the whole people, to all factions without exception, and by that, narrow-minded factionalism and contrast will be revoked, so more correctly, they will be silenced and make way to what preceded them, and then we will be able to unite into a single solid body”. So, I want to ask what does it mean that they will make way to what proceeded them?
M. Laitman: They will make room in this way for the revelation of the law, the primary law – the singular law in nature. And we'll all see how we are connected to it, how we are connected to it and act according to that law.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (35:25) He writes about the ancient Jewish culture in the article. Now, as it appears in this article, also, we have two challenges: The first is to explain about Judaism, about what this people need. And the other challenge is when you speak to people, you see how the connection, you talk about Jewish culture, saying that we need to be united and work together. And we see how opposite that is to the kind of religion that exists here in Israel that we grew up on. So, it took us many years to understand what this connection is and what we need to achieve and to detach from. I don't know if detach is the right word, but to understand that religion only comes to complement that, it's not the main thing. So, the question is how do you manage to explain that to make people see it that way? Because it's difficult if you talk to people about these things, they immediately tie it to religion?
M. Laitman: You're already talking about what to do in the field, so to speak. To disconnect the wisdom of Kabbalah from religion, and not even the wisdom of Kabbalah but how these tendencies that we wish to revive in the nation. To do it in such a way that they will not appear to everyone as religious processes. We'll have to think about it.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (37:39) It sounds like the solution is on the level of inner connection between us, between the Tens in Bnei Baruch, that's one facet of the solution. And there's another facet to it which Baal HaSulam mentions here and which you talked about several times. He says that there are those who study the hearts between us, who can create for us, invent for us a proper plan, and then he says that we are willing to give room to anyone who has some kind of solution to unite the nation to write in this paper, get published. So, Baal HaSulam, does he mean to say that solutions can come from other sources, not from the wisdom of Kabbalah?
M. Laitman: No.
Student: Why does he write that?
M. Laitman: Because he wants to attract people, to create a circle, where they can discuss and scrutinize all these things and what's facing everyone.
Student: Can it be that gradually, the more those circles start to understand that connection is the solution – exactly as you said, just to expand on it a little bit – the inner connection is for the sake of the upper force, for the purpose of creation, the purpose of life, we want to connect. And then the more we expand those circles, can the wisdom of Kabbalah offer a solution which focuses on connection rather than the upper force, you know, so as to be able to adapt it to more people?
M. Laitman: Certainly, because we're speaking of the laws of nature. So, we have to talk about the Creator all the time, no, the laws of nature. That's what's important, we will behave according to how the laws of nature arranges.
Student: Then a kind of division into circles is created; not division but different types of explanations, messaging, and work with the public. Do you see Bnei Baruch as being able to contain all these different circles?
M. Laitman: I can't see any other organization that has the power, the knowledge, the ability to do this work, at least to start it. So, I think that's how it will be.
Student: You said that from above, the more this process advances, from above all sorts of groups will be awakened and we will come to discover them.
M. Laitman: Yes, more and more groups will come, with all kinds of ideologies, it doesn't matter. But ultimately, everyone will understand that the connection between everyone is the solution.
Student: They'll agree to unite around this, even though each one of them comes with a different ideology, they'll agree to unite into one body?
M. Laitman: Yes, they won't think that they are that different, no. There will be an understanding, a feeling that we're all speaking about the same thing.
Student: They'll be able to, again, from above, they'll be given the ability to understand that the wisdom of Kabbalah is the thing that unites all these different ideologies?
M. Laitman: Yes, undoubtedly, all the other methods will wither.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (41:57) Connection between us, the people who have this lack, this inclination, that's one thing. Connection between two people who simply want a better life. They understand that the situation is bad and they want something better. What is connection for them?
M. Laitman: Connection for them is a source for additional livelihood and liveliness, what they want.
Student: I understand but when we talk about connection in the Ten, we talk about something very specific: To draw the light according to the writings of the Kabbalists. When you come to a person who doesn't know the writings of the Kabbalists, there's no drawing of the light. But he understands that he needs to improve the relationships between himself and others in his environment to have a better life. What is that improvement? What does it mean as far as he's concerned, what must he do, what is the first step?
M. Laitman: The first step is to understand that the correction, all of it comes from the connection.
Student: How does he connect to his neighbor?
M. Laitman: I don't know, you want me to lie? I think that it will appear as people who are organizing in groups, in circles, who study, together, how the upper force that exists as one in nature, how that appears in them. And how it gives each and every one the power to be impressed, inspired, that's it.
Student: Is it possible, perhaps, to start by learning not how to connect in order to generate some kind of force. But first of all, how to neutralize hatred?
M. Laitman: That's the most important thing, it's true, it's the thing that stands out the most. But it's easier not to enter this discussion of for or against hate but for or against connection.
Student: And that'll be easier.
M. Laitman: Yes because the hate is already flaming.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (45:16) Still, the connection between us is an outcome, after a person feels that there's some flavor to that connection between us. So, he writes that those who've studied the heart can find ploys, what does that mean? Plans, a person needs to have some understanding of his own will and desire in order to see something in a desire which is outside of him relating to connection.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: What does it mean that we are students of the heart? And the outcome of connection is not offered to them but rather we bring them closer?
M. Laitman: We wish to disseminate that the connection between created beings brings them to the apex of their development.
Student: A person who never felt any flavor, taste, in connection, it's meaningless to him. He immediately attributes it to some group, it can't awaken him.
M. Laitman: I agree with you but together with that, he has no choice. He sees that the world does not become better. And we need to nevertheless look for some means for improving the world and that's not simple.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:09) What about the feeling of danger awakens a person towards love of others and connection?
M. Laitman: Again?
Student: What about the sensation of danger, existential danger, how does it awaken a person towards agreeing with connection and love of others?
M. Laitman: He thinks that he can acquire some forces from there, forces to work with others, forces to get for himself support and that's why he agrees.
Student: He agrees to be loved and taken care of but him taking care of others, working for the sake of connection…
M. Laitman: It depends on how he understands it. He needs to pay for it, he needs to compensate, somehow.
Student: So, alongside the feeling of danger, there needs to come some kind of explanation on how the mechanism operates, what's the payment? And the person will agree to pay.
M. Laitman: If he wants to live.
Student: This explanation has to include an explanation on why a different kind of operation, why a different mode of contact, won't allow him to continue living?
M. Laitman: A different form means that there's separation between everyone and in that, it's certainly clear to everyone, to all those who study nature. To all people from their own lives, from all of reality, whatever you want. It's clear that there's no right to exist in it. Separation equals death.
Student: As the friend said if a person doesn't feel it, it's very difficult to convince. But something about the intellectual explanation has to be such that he'll understand that he's squandering his only opportunity, as we understand it, to live a life which is not a life of fear. So, what can make a person look at it that way?
M. Laitman: Only by bringing him to a group that lives out of the connection.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (50:09) I'm asking about these very days not about some connection at some point. Reality is such that we are in a very bizarre state, the nation of Israel is a tiny, tiny nation. And it's performing actions which can lead to, I don't know what will happen ultimately, but they can make the whole world unstable. Now, stories we’re told about Israel, people told all sorts of stories, and now it's actually happening, and it's a matter of days. It's not something that may happen in some distant future. So, I want to ask you for some guidance with respect to this time right now, not future plans. What can we do now because it seems that we are, I don't want to sound dramatic, but we are at the precipice, the edge of a cliff. It can go this way or that way, and it's not clear where it's heading?
M. Laitman: We are indeed in a state where the state that you are describing, quite right, quite correctly. We must see that in our development – our egoistic development, we have reached, in our rational development, seemingly. We have reached a state where we see that we're unable to bring ourselves to a life of comfort, a balanced life, life of law, and comfort, and peace. And everything stems from our nature, from our evil inclination, and if not for that, we would certainly get along in simple ways. But we're unable to, whether it's clear to us that our mistake is in nature itself. And we won't be able to correct it except on the condition that it will be in accordance, or according, to the upper force, and that's a problem. If we come to a solution that takes the upper force into consideration and that we have to be together, only in the form of each will help his friend, then we come to the good life. If we're unable to accept it, we will reincarnate again and again until the forces of nature will close around us, close in around us. And we'll eventually get there but through thousands of years and all kinds of threats and pains and so on and so forth.
Student: Is it right to say that this us you talked about now, it's not just Bnei Baruch but a slightly wider us, maybe the whole nation of Israel? Because that's what I feel, at least, I feel that right now. Because at the national level, there are all sorts of decisions by all kinds of people in rule, decisions they can make which will take the whole world on a kind of detour which is absolutely uncertain. Nobody knows what's going to happen as a result so what to do at this state? We studied, we studied, we talked about connection. I see that we went over this article every year, more or less. But we've come to a point where something needs to happen now. Now, does it depend on us, something that we do over these very days? Or will reality continue moving along as it does, and maybe now it'll be something, a process which will take thousands of years, or maybe not?
M. Laitman: I think that we don't have an option. That we can live another thousand or two thousand years the way we feel like it, and then we'll circle back to the solution, no. The solution is already inside of creation and it comes to such levels where it either lets us live or it will bring us to death.
Student: I feel what you're saying, I truly do, but the question is a group of people like us, there are people who have been engaging in this for thirty years and more. Is there anything we can do right now? Not at some point next year, a couple of years from now, right now, which will help this world move towards a better place, beyond what we're already doing. And everyone here is doing much, we meet, we get together, we study, there's just a feeling that something is happening right now, not at some point in the future.
M. Laitman: This has to be only with a clear knowledge for each and every one, each and every living person. That his attitude towards others, the way he relates to others, has to be similar to how the Creator relates to everyone, that's it. After all, there's nothing, nothing else here beyond the connection.
Question (Belarus): (57:37) Why do the nations of the world hate Israel so much?
M. Laitman: Because Israel, according to the way they see it, they are not doing what they need to do. They pass all their suffering to Israel.
Question (Women PT 6): (58:06) The advice given by Baal HaSulam in The Nation paper, it seemed very valid, very appropriate for our times. Did the people not change over this time?
M. Laitman: No.
Question (PT 32): (58:25) Baal HaSulam calls for unity around the Jewish identity. But there is a group in the nation who reject the Jewish identity. How can we turn to these people, nonetheless?
M. Laitman: I don't know, there are many groups who won't agree, who want something of their own. Let's start with those with whom we can work.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (59:01) There are several questions about solutions through working in the Tens, what kind of prayer to pray and what we need to do in terms of dissemination?
M. Laitman: According to what we see, dissemination is the most important thing. Therefore, to study the principles of the last generation and to disseminate all these ideas about it. This is our work, extremely important.
Student: And more inwardly working in the prayers, working in the Tens and prayer.
M. Laitman: Yes, of course it's all related to that.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:00:08) On the 7th of October last year, the greatest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust took place. As a German, this is especially painful for me. Is there anything that we learned from the Holocaust that can help us, now, in terms of the attacks against Israel?
M. Laitman: We need only to disseminate the method of correction and how together we approach it and we succeed.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:01:19) It's clear and I feel that our success depends on how the principle of connection takes root in reality. How can we describe this good outcome in the external reality? Can we paint some kind of corporeal image of it so we can connect our message in dissemination to some kind of external form we want people to reach?
M. Laitman: I don't know, I don't even understand exactly what you're talking about. How can we imagine the future society?
Student: Yes, in a sense, the closest step, the step closest to us, what's the difference between what exists today? And what will happen on the next degree that the world is supposed to reach, or at least our nation?
M. Laitman: To speak in such a practical way, I can't do it yet. We need to sit down together and have a thought exercise. How do we think people can advance toward the true implementation?
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:03:20) He writes, “although the danger is known to all, this knowledge is seemingly not developed enough in the public, as developed as it should be. Because if they felt it, they should have shaken off the dust of factionalism a long time ago to the extent that it obstructs forming ranks. And if so, it's because this feeling is not in many people yet. They don't feel the danger. And that's why we took upon ourselves to publish this paper, to stand watch and warn about the problem, and help the people understand it”. So, I want to ask, is the danger already clear to everyone? Have we developed since then?
M. Laitman: No, where do you see that this danger is truly prevailing and dominating the people?
Student: Why not?
M. Laitman: Why not? How many, how many religious parties do you have, factions?
Student: So, the expression of factionalism is that the danger isn't clear to everyone?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Despite all the horrors we've seen?
M. Laitman: In spite of everything, until it will be clear to each and every one, you won't be able to go out and arrange for anything.
Student: After such aggressive acts, how?
M. Laitman: You have people that are even more, even harder, more resistant as a result of your actions.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:05:42) I really feel that there is a connection between the inability to feel the danger and the inability to feel how we are responsible for the state of the world, and all the terrible things that are happening. And I know that it's not our method to reveal the left – the left line, the left side – but how can we advance if we don't feel that we are responsible for all the horrible things happening in the world? How can we even advance towards the proper prayer and towards a greater connection between the hearts? How can we advance if we don't feel that we are the most terrible people in the world? It kills me, this feeling that we justify ourselves, constantly, we're in denial. We don't want to see that side of us. We're fine, I just fulfilled those conditions, I do whatever I can. But in effect, I killed those people – I did that.
M. Laitman: Correct, that's correct but what can you do?
Student: That's the question.
M. Laitman: Speak, broadcast such programs over the TV, what else can you do?
Student: We always repeat to, I also heard our friend from Germany saying that, saying that he's taking something upon himself. And I want to tell him, no, it's not you, it's not you at all. It's us, our nation that caused this.
M. Laitman: Yes. I don't have an answer, I don't have an answer.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:08:23) I see, I see life within Bnei Baruch and outside of Bnei Baruch. You say that you do nothing but you can't imagine, so many people across the world don't show themselves. But they read what you write and they hear what you say, many people of different nations, different demographics. And they understand very well everything we talk about, they suffer with the same questions. And each one of them in his place is trying to do something. We're talking about how terrible the current situation is but who knows if every morning, every day, thousands of people across the world would have sat here, maybe nothing wrong would have happened. So, other than each one of us feeling his or her own personal responsibility, this pain, if we share it, we need to know that it's not for naught. Because in spirituality there's no time, and so there's no point in calculating twenty years, thirty years, how long each person has been studying. It'll happen when it needs to happen so long as we and you sit together in the morning lessons, make an effort, try and try.
M. Laitman: Thank you.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:10:35) You said many times that a drop of unity coming from us can change the whole situation. So, my question is how close do you think we are to that drop of unity? And if we're not close to it, what else must we do?
M. Laitman: We are close but you can't say when it will come and be revealed to us. I think that the final stages are starting to be revealed in our world. We are coming to a state where that generation has to prepare and attain true Godliness. It's now unfolding and coming down to this world, that last generation.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:12:40) We see that the people of Israel divided into two very powerful factions, the right and the left and it's never been so prominent. And also, there's great hatred between these two sides. Now the question is the Torah, the wisdom of Kabbalah, does it need to be the middle line that connects between the right and the left in the people of Israel?
M. Laitman: In someone it has to be that way but to such an extent, I don't know. Because each and every one gives a different interpretation to right and left and the way to connect them, and their goal, their purpose. That's why it's difficult to bring the purpose of creation to correction.
Student: And there's, let's say, the left, they say that the people of Israel, the nation of Israel rather, needs to be a nation of all its citizens, pluralistic. And the right says that Israel should belong to the Jews, they speak about the large nation of Israel, the whole Israel. Now, the explanation that the wisdom of Kabbalah gives is good for both sides: We know that if there's education towards love of others, then the Nation of Israel can include all people. And the whole Israel means that one conquers his inner Israel inclination. Then I feel that we're not giving people proper answers to make the ground ready for a connection because we see branches. The left branch that comes from the connection, the one force, and there's the right branch that comes from the same source, and they cannot find common ground.
M. Laitman: I think that the solution will come from the nations of the world. They will understand and feel that it can't keep going this way. And they will obligate us to open our eyes on the method of connection, the new type, the wisdom of Kabbalah. Otherwise, we won't be able to; maybe there'll be more, all kinds of methods or states. As it's written, Israel is not left alone but we'll talk about it at some point.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:16:45) There are organizations that grew as a result of the separation that was happening in the people of Israel, lately. And there are organizations that are trying to bridge these things, like you said, with different ideologies. And not from an inner connection, but from a connection of not being in a state of hatred. From that kind of egoistic place, not from a place of, you know, the revelation of the Creator. What should our attitude be towards such organizations?
M. Laitman: The world's nature, all of creation, and everybody agrees on this, is an egoistic nature. That's why the main thing is that man, the biggest egoist, he, supposedly, had to correct that ego and failed. The wisdom of Kabbalah explains to us how we are connected to one another; how we affect those connections on one another; and how we can bring ourselves gradually to some kind of connection above our ego. Because each one wants to devour himself and even more the other, that's why we need to see where we can bring this line. Where everybody will be satisfied from the results that we want to bring to society.
Student: Earlier you talked about the need to bring the people from a state of hatred to a state of not hating one another.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: And that's the basis to it.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: Do we need to focus on the most internal connection, like this elite unit? Or do we need to try and connect to those organizations that are trying to bring the people to a state of non-hatred?
M. Laitman: No, we don't need to depend on this or that. We want to be under a general law in nature and this law says that we can’t use all kinds of tendencies we have. But only one thing – to bring us to connection between us without any conditions.
Student: Our focus should continue to be to connect in the Ten and strengthen the connection between us, yes?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:21:07) The war sharpens the state, the situation. It's kind of very clear and refined, defined. Soldiers are connected, it doesn't matter if they're religious, secular, Sephardic, Ashkenazi, they're even, they're completely unified before the enemy. How can we, in us, be like that here, to be in such a war? Kind of like to get tighter between us and discover the enemy and receive the force to triumph in this battle?
M. Laitman: We need to understand that all the solution is by wanting to extend from above downward, from the Creator, the upper light. That will correct all of our desires that will all be in order to bestow. But then there won't be any need for Him to reveal all the other forces.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:22:53) I heard you in the lesson. I was saying that if we come to a solution that we take into account the upper force and one will help his friend, that's the only thing that will help. And if not, then we will cascade until the forces of nature will make us do so. And really, if I look at our dissemination, even when I was still in the New York group, and I believe that it's all over the World Kli. It was clear that whenever you go to a dissemination, you think about the thoughts of the group and then you share reflections and feedback of what happened, pictures and everything. And remember what power it created in the group, how we're all on the same thought, same action, those who participated and those that didn't. And so, actually, what is that mechanism in which we in such a way connect the group and the friends to the same action? What does that give us – why specifically in that we have success? And if not, then nature can close up before us.
M. Laitman: It's written, and it shall be new in your eyes, that all the forces, desires, thoughts that are revealed in you, you will accept them, receive them as new. Then you'll see as much as you're advancing with them to a new place, to a new force, to a new action, that's very important. That's what we have to pay attention on.
Student: Is sharing what's happening in actions of dissemination, making sure that the group knows what we're doing and collaborating that way. Does that create a protection for us and assurance that we would succeed in such actions?
M. Laitman: That's a false promise and a false innovation, that's what we get from this. But truly, we need to see to reveal a completely new state, a completely new state. That a force comes to us that raises us above all possibilities that we can tell ourselves about. And that force, I don't know how to say it, it will toss us from one end to the other of reality. And by that, we will feel as much as we are surrendering to Him and want to be like Him. And receive knowledge and mind from Him on how to work for the general correction.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:27:12) What preparation do we need to do towards that state that's arriving? Like you said, it throws us from one state to another. I feel like there needs to be a certain preparation towards that state on our behalf.
M. Laitman: I didn't really understand the question, I’m in a certain state.
Student: I'm talking about the state that you just described where a certain new reality is approaching us.
M. Laitman: Yes?
Student: Which we don't know yet, we don't know how to operate in it. It can also throw us from our state to another completely different state.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: I feel like there needs to be a special preparation towards that state, just like in the Ten Days of Repentance where a person prepares himself towards something new. What preparation do we need to have towards this new thing that should arrive?
M. Laitman: That we are searching for some kind of foundation in order to not fall from the previous state, that's what usually happens to us. And if we will know how to get an additional force, so we won't fall from the previous state and even we’ll be able to turn towards our new state.
Student: That was the question, thank you Rav, but just to refine the question, how do we strengthen ourselves in the existing state and not lose it? Which is like you said, that's like the basis to the new state. What do we need to do, how do we strengthen it and how do we do it?
M. Laitman: That's by the connection between us.
Student: The ability to receive the new state coming to us depends on the extent of connection that we define within us?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:29:42) We say that the efforts for connection between us and the result of them, we basically bestow our words eventually. And also vice versa, meaning the state of the whole world also influences the general state of correction. And it seems like the external state is just getting worse and worse, the hatred and separation is just growing. The question is how if that's the state, then what should it bring us to, to despair or helplessness?
M. Laitman: It needs to bring us to a very, very sensitive state, sensitive. How we take decisions, how we take a step ahead because the fact that we want to discover our relation towards the Creator and to feel His relation towards us. This needs to be closed in our intentions of man will help his friend. Soon we'll learn about that.
Student: That point is what we need to breach out with, what needs to be breaking out here with, prayer?
M. Laitman: Prayer.
Student: That's what remains?
M. Laitman: Of course, prayer.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:31:58) We heard that this force throws us from one side to the other until it leads us to a state in which we surrender before it. Is the goal, like the friends spoke of here, of all these blows of all kinds that we see, external and internal. Are they to lead us to a certain kind of state of surrender where we're subjugated before the upper force and we say, do with us what is needed? We say that the Torah wears down the forces of a person.
M. Laitman: Yes, eventually, there are such states that we are ready for it. But along with that, there are also states that we are calculating and we see how much forces we're lacking from the right – from the left – that we can only advance on the middle line. And here, we are ready to settle.
Student: Meaning we always think that our actions need to bring us to a better state, seemingly. That's how it seems to us in our egoistic mind.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: But the Creator is bringing us to a state that we want to come closer to us.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: And we need to come closer to it. Maybe the main thing we need to raise is to raise our sensitivity towards these delicate states in order to eventually come to some surrender before the upper force, to come to Him naked?
M. Laitman: Correct. Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:34:22) Before the holiday, you talked, also about this matter that we are influencing with the inner force of Bnei Baruch. And even more, you talked about dissemination, that it needs to include children, women. I want to ask, he finishes this excerpt that we read, he doesn't write Baal HaSulam, he writes The System. And there's this feeling that we are impacting the world in our inner prayer that we establish between us every day anew. And no one needs to know about this, no one can resist it, we have this inner force in our prayer that makes it through. My question is I want to touch on the matter of dissemination. Because in dissemination we do say, we put the logo, Bnei Baruch, we, it's from us – as if there's this need to attract people towards us. And there's this dissemination like a virus that doesn't attract to us but it goes outwards and expands and spreads. I wanted to ask if there's some point of building a system where we don't sign in the end our name. But rather more taking it out of ourselves, these things that will begin to build in the world a certain new conversation. Today, for example, you can build something where you say to it, there are certain things that don't enter into that thing. For example, things that talk about hatred, you cannot put into this system, only things that talk about connection, about love. And then it's not like we, because when people hear that somebody is appealing to them, they have a certain obtuseness to it.
M. Laitman: I understand it all. Okay, do it, do!
Student: We simply thought also in the Ten, maybe to go out as friends who go out and are turning to groups as people who want to raise the value of connection in the people of Israel, not due to anyone. Simply as a Ten that wants to perform a common action and disseminate this inner force in a simple way.
M. Laitman: I don't know if that idea is good but I'm not resisting it. I'm not resisting anything, please?
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:37:15) Baal HaSulam actually says that he has a solution. He knows precisely that egoists can't connect, also political parties cannot connect. But what he's actually saying is that you create a platform in which each person who has a solution and thinks about the unification of the nation should come, and these people will talk. And through the conversation maybe you can influence them or bestow to them. I don't know, I'm asking you. And then simply create a discussion, it's not a connection but a dialogue about how to unite the nation. And then through that conversation, that dialogue, plant the true solution and reach bestowal and to dissemination. Is that correct, can you understand it that way?
M. Laitman: Try, try.
Student: Actually, this idea didn't succeed, we knew it was closed down immediately. It didn't let him do it. But we can do it maybe from something external, not from some inner force. Why do you think he tried to do this attempt?
M. Laitman: Baal HaSulam was willing to do everything just to expand those borders of the publication of connection.
Student: So, do you think that today we need to also try this approach and create a certain broad platform where people will talk? Today it's much easier, you don't need a physical newspaper or anything. There's the internet, there's all kinds of means that you can simply create a platform where anyone who supports the idea of unity in the nation should come and support and say whatever he says.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (KabU 9 and Petah Tikva): (01:39:25) From the World Kli which is an example of connection and how the World Kli can help with this? Because the World Kli is not really the state of part of the Israeli nation physically but, also, from the external. Also, this clip from The Exhibition Gardens from overseas, they didn't come like the nation to the world with hatred towards Israel but rather in a positive way, you, the people of Israel need to connect, this is the role, etc. So, you're asking the friends, how the World Kli can help this problem of the unification of the Israel.
M. Laitman: I think scrutinize, I'm sure you can find it in our writings.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:40:22) The circles need to be arranged according to the attitude towards the upper force and the people of Israel. But now I also heard that the change is conditioned on people need to understand that there is an upper force and how we need to relate to it. So, how is the correction of the people of Israel connected to his attitude towards the upper force?
M. Laitman: According to what we see from Baal HaSulam, there's a law that you cannot pass. Everyone has to surrender to the upper force, and from there on, can expand broadly.
Question (Women Turkiye 7): (01:41:20) How will love cover all the crimes?
M. Laitman: Love is the greatest force we have, that's what the Creator established in creation. That's why you can build everything on love, that's it, that's why.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:41:52) I heard you say in the beginning of the lesson that a new generation was born that will be ready for the life of the last generation.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: What is that generation, what will characterize it?
M. Laitman: This generation is those children that are growing in a field of Kabbalists and – I don't know how to say it – but those who are growing today from the people, amongst the people who are searching and know and are learning, like let's say, in our organization.
Student: What's the difference in them, why are they born in such an environment?
M. Laitman: Because they don't have an environment that can draw them to all kinds of organizations or other goals. They are not confused with what was throughout human history with people. But what they have is that they’re thinking of the world as one, therefore they have less and less tendencies to division. And in short, they have more matter to scrutinize, more force to scrutinize.
Student: Scrutinize towards connection?
M. Laitman: Also, to connection, yes.
Student: Do you see it as a generation that was born or a generation that already grew up here?
M. Laitman: The generation that's already grown, that's growing, they're asking more what they're living for. What are we living for, very simply. And the previous generation can't give them an answer already, so they're kind of with their hands upwards.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:45:37) How in an active way can we include the nation when we work on connection in the Tens, between the Tens? What's our inner work?
M. Laitman: Try to include the people in all the actions you do between you, between the Tens, in the Tens.
Student: What does it mean to include the deficiencies, the separation between them, the desires? How can we add that into our inner spiritual work?
M. Laitman: To add to the inner spiritual work? You can do only when you scrutinize more and more what in each and every nation is awakening; what awakens the evil inclination?
Student: What prayer can we do for them, what's the right request that will aim them towards connection, that will awaken them?
M. Laitman: I think we need to awaken the nearing of the hearts between us. And after that, to give into our hearts, or make a place in our hearts for all of humanity – for all of humanity without any exceptions. That the Creator should be the one who discerns these things. And if we continue this way, then after a while, in a very specific way, we will feel the answer.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:48:12) Something doesn't work out here, I wanted to ask you: We're here in a war between the will to receive and how do we reach a state of love of friends? As our friend said, when we suffer, we want to come close. Also in history, we see that every state where there is fighting then we want to connect. So, the question is, is the state of suffering, is it a must? Do we have to go through suffering, do we need suffering to reach connection?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: But is that help, is that the help from the Creator? That He wants us to suffer and connect?
M. Laitman: But for us to have discernments without those discernments of minus, plus, suffering, joy, there's no life. Life is specifically through the two contradicted states.
Student: Why aren't we succeeding to connect, or if I connect is it a new type of connection every time we reveal suffering?
M. Laitman: Of course, it's connection each time and each time in something new.
Question (Women PT 6): (01:50:47) I heard that in Bnei Baruch we have to be an example for connection according to the laws of nature. And it's clear that in the Tens we need to connect as one man with one heart and this way, all of Bnei Baruch. And I heard that our next generation will be the ones who implement this. So, I wanted to ask how much the example of the connection in our Tens, and as much as the connection in our families, are the foundation for our children to grow on the purity of connection?
M. Laitman: Yes, that's the example, that is the example.
Student: We need to pay attention, not only to the Tens but, also to strengthen the family cell so, our children will be ambassadors of connection?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:52:15) First, I want to say that because they, with all the huge pain that it has, we have to leave this lesson with a prayer, a very strong prayer. And we'll gather it all together. I also wanted to ask how we as a nation, as a community of Bnei Baruch, how do we help the children growing up to deal with tragedies, with trauma, with pain?
M. Laitman: To the extent in which we will be closer to one another, we will be able to divide all the heaviness, the great burden of the disasters upon all of us and disperse it between us all. And be able to go through it in an easier way, that's one thing. The second thing is that we should simply try – try to think to what extent you are the refined ones, the greatest ones of all of humanity. And to pay for it with attainment of the goal and in dissemination towards all, that's it, all together.
Reader: (01:54:41) Now we have social time. We're done with the lesson. We'll continue, between us, to take your words and discuss them between us.
M. Laitman: Okay, I've succeeded.
Reader: So, friends, we will go to our social time.
