Zion, Tzion in Hebrew comes from the word Yitziah [exit]. In other words, we acquire the Torah, we acquire the land of Tzion, of Zion, from the exits, Yitziot, not from the entries. The Hizdakchut [thinning/purification] of the Masach [screen], which occurs in the Partzuf, causes the departure of the light, too. And the reason is that after the Tzimtzum [restriction], the light is captured only in the Kli [vessel] of the Masach, which is the rejecting force. And this is the essence of the Kli.When that Kli departs, the light departs, too. This means that a Kli is considered faith above reason. And then the light appears. When the light appears, its nature is to thin out the Kli, to cancel the Kli of faith. Because this is so, meaning that it comes into a form of knowing in him, the light immediately departs from him. Thus, he should see to increasing the Kli of faith, meaning the Masach over the knowing, and then the abundance will not stop from him. This is the meaning of each Kli being deficient of light, that it is not filled by the light that it lacks. It follows that every place of lack becomes a place for faith. If it were filled, there would be no possibility for a Kli, a place for faith.

M. Laitman: Here we can see that precisely the exit of light from the Kli forms the Kli and Hissaron. It forms the place for the light to come back and clothe in the Kli in a correct way, in adhesion. This is how connection between the Creator and creation is established. That is why it is said, “From Tzion (from Yitziot) will Torah emerge.” Meaning, the light will come, the Torah will come, which will be revealed in the Kli in a permanent way: the knowing and feeling in all degrees of attainment.

Laitman: In other words, we need to connect the deficiencies from the empty places that don't understand, that are lacking, that we cannot rise above from this state, that we are in a state that is lacking, but nothing beyond that. And from all this searching, what exactly are we missing? In these searches of ours, we find ourselves in a Kli, in a vessel of faith, that we only want to fulfill ourselves with a feeling of faith. That the Kli, with its fulfillment, that it naturally wants to fulfill itself, but it doesn't, it doesn't want to be fulfilled; it wants to remain in the very same state. And even though it's empty, according to his desire, according to his deficiency, in spite of that, he wants to be in bestowal to the Creator. And accordingly, he wants to reach the correct fulfillment.

M. Laitman: Right, because the abundance stops if the created being wants to be fulfilled with the knowledge. If he cares for faith, then he reaches the fulfillment of knowledge. But faith should be more than knowledge.

Student: How can faith be more than knowledge?

M. Laitman: Overcoming and bestowing in order to bestow is faith, and receiving in order to bestow is Yediya [knowledge]. That's Aviut Gimel over Dalet.

Student: How can you get ready for something like this?

M. Laitman: Everything is as usual, as we say. Exerting in the connection among the friends that I try to be above my own reason, like that. Go and overcome more and more, try to be in bestowal instead of reception. That is how I get myself used to not to search for what I have in vessels of reception, that I can treat the environment, the world, the Creator with the force of bestowal, in working on them. Regular exercises for now, but later on they will be different, with qualities that we will always be able to measure. In what way do they exist and how? Until we'll be able to discover the spiritual states, the degrees. Like that.

Question (PT 4): (09:29) When you go from one degree to the next, the Kli that's revealed is bigger, or the discernment, I recognize it as bigger?

M. Laitman: Of course, everything is measured according to the deficiencies in the Kli, just like we speak of the upper light. Now, too, we're in spirituality, in the upper light, in the highest possible state. What do we grasp from it? It's all according to the preparation of the Kli.

Student: So the need to increase the Masach is because there's a Masach on a certain Aviut, and in order to give more contentment to the Creator, we have to increase the Masach, not because there's a bigger Kli being revealed?

M. Laitman: Yes, of course, that's what we need to do, or maybe I didn't understand the question.

Student: I'm asking, does the Kli grow?

M. Laitman: The Kli is a Masach.

Student: So why do we need to add a Masach with an overcoming? What the friend asked, what leads to it?

M. Laitman: Masach and overcoming is the same. Kli, Masach is the root, overcoming is the same. To the extent I overcome above my ego, above my will to receive, above any self-calculation, by that I build the spiritual vessel.

Student: The calculation to myself, on a certain degree with a Masach? So, let's say, I overcome it. Now something new is being revealed. Like you said, it purifies. The question is, what happens there that I have to add overcoming? A new Aviut is revealed that is bigger?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes, of course, it's all the feeling of Aviut, which grows.

Question (Heb 10): (11:33) To continue this question, when you build the Kli, theoretically I get it. As it's written everywhere, being deficient becomes a place for faith. But in practice, in the Ten, once we make an effort to advance, so it just scatters us all into a new reason, different, that moves us away from one another. Now the stage in the Ten, in the maturity of the Ten, it can be like a rubber band that always pulls it back to the goal. What is that rubber band? What's that state? I hope it was clear.

M. Laitman: Do you understand something?

Student: How can you keep faith above reason in the Ten?

M. Laitman: That's what you're asking?

Student: Yes, in other words, yes. What brings us back to not be thrown out? Because we're advancing, so we're scattering too.

M. Laitman: Yes, what, ah, okay, that we fall, that we exit the path. What brings us back to the path?

Student: Yes.

M. Laitman: Surrounding light that makes sure all the vessels accumulate and eventually reach the inner light.

Student: What in the Ten, exactly in the work in the Ten, draws that inner light?

M. Laitman: Connection, only connection. Because the inner light depends on connection between them all.

Student: Connections or efforts to connect?

M. Laitman: Who says you should be in lack, with lack of flavors? Who says that? Remain in flavors, but remain on the same path, in the same direction, in the same evaluation, in the same, why not? We need to receive everything we have along the path in order to bestow. That's how it is.

Question (PT 20): (14:23) What's the force of rejection, and what should we reject?

M. Laitman: We need to push out desires to receive that are pushing us away from the path.

Question (PT 14): (14:43) We're saying that the first Kli is the Kli of faith that we're building from a deficiency, and then we reveal another Kli of reason, and we said we have to make sure we watch out for it. Can you elaborate on this?"

M. Laitman: There's nothing to elaborate. That we should all be in order to bestow, and then we go from Aviut of root, A and B, even to Aviut of C and D. So the Kli of faith with a small will to receive, that it will be not only knowledge but faith in order to bestow.

Question (Chelyabinsk-Omsk): (15:38) How quick can we understand that we're not yearning to faith but we've reached reason?

M. Laitman: Right now we are in the feelings of the degrees, and every time we enter a new degree, a new state, then you can say it's a new degree.

Question (PT 19): (16:21) As long as we're not above reason, there’s no Kli?

M. Laitman: We don't have a Kli.

Student: So what are we lacking?

M. Laitman: To be above reason.

Student: What's a real Kli?

M. Laitman: Above reason.

Student: It's not built of two halves?

M. Laitman: No, no, no, mister.

Question (Kyiv): (16:48) In our case, the Masach is holding the Dvekut between us?

M. Laitman: Yes, the Masach we build from the connection between us. And then, through overcoming between us, we relate it to the Creator. We prefer a connection with the Creator to be above - we prefer that from being immersed within our ego.

Student: He writes that the Masach is the force that sustains, that stops. And you say the Masach is what I bestow with?

M. Laitman: There are many degrees in the Masach, many degrees in the Masach.

Student: He writes that the nature of the light bestows on the Masach by weakening the Masach, meaning the light comes and…

M. Laitman: Yes, exactly, that's how it is. The light, it ruins us in order to help us build a greater and greater and greater Kli, until the Kli will be in such a way that he can hold the light.

Question (Haver): (18:23) Is there a difference between prayer in reason and prayer above reason?

M. Laitman: Of course. Prayer within reason is egoistic prayer. Prayer above reason is a prayer in order to build a Kli of bestowal.

Question (Karmiel): (18:44) How can someone in a descent relate to the Ten with the force of the Ten?

M. Laitman: He adheres like a small one towards a grown-up, like a baby to his mother. And then like that he comes out. He has no other way.

Student: That means that that's the way he expresses his bestowal?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes, of course.

M. Laitman: Only faith, faith and that is all. That on the other hand, the more you advance in faith, you'll begin to feel that you have an additional reason as well, of knowledge, but only on the condition that you go from faith to greater faith, like that. So, whoever goes from faith above reason becomes wiser, and whoever goes regularly becomes more stupid, fanatical, etc.

Question (French ): (21:45) I understand that we're studying spirituality, that it's a matter of creation. How can we define the Masach as a matter, according to its functioning?

M. Laitman: A Masach has Aviut and Kashiut, upon our will to receive. To the extent it works with a will to receive that doesn't help, that gives us some kind of protection not to use the will to receive - that's the force of Kashiut, of hardness. And then to the extent we work with this will to receive, with the Masach in order to bestow, this is the form of Aviut, of coarseness. That's the Aviut of the Masach. We’ll reach it.

Question (Moscow 3): (22:51) If I understand correctly, I have to restrict my desire and connect the friend's will to receive. And the will to bestow is just the intention towards the Creator?

M. Laitman: No, incorrect. The same way I treat the friend, I treat the Creator. No difference at all. No difference. Just like the friends, similarly to the Creator.

Question (Haifa 2): (23:22) The new Aviut that's revealed, is it measured in size or in quantity or quality? Is it, I want something bigger, or something in quality?

M. Laitman: Aviut is revealed according to the pleasures that are revealed by it. That is Aviut. The coarse will to receive that is diverting, that is Aviut.

Question (PT Young): (24:03) Why when we rise from reason to above reason we need the light to purify?

M. Laitman: I don't understand.

Student: He's asking, why is there a need for the light to purify when we go above reason?

M. Laitman: What is this purification? What does it mean?

Student: The light.

M. Laitman: The light? The light will be pure? I don't understand that sentence. No, you're saying words, there are such words, but how you arrange them to a sentence, the sentence is unclear.

The work that is the preparation to enter true spirituality. That is, when he takes upon himself to believe in the importance of the Creator above reason, he must take upon himself that he wants to go specifically with faith above reason. M. Laitman: What’s revelation of evil? It's that I feel my will to receive that disturbs me from bestowing, from connecting to the friends, from connecting to think of the Creator, and so on.

Student: How do you overcome it? Because it keeps getting worse and worse.

M. Laitman: The evil, the will to receive, was created by the upper light, but only the upper light can cope with the will to receive, can deal with it. We can only draw the upper light upon our will to receive. It will care for it, nurture it, correct it. That's the only thing we can do. That is why the fact that evil is revealed, that's according to a plan from above, that all the evil needs to be revealed from zero until Ein Sof, until its complete portion, and we only need to draw the light that reforms, that will invert this evil to goodness. That's our work.

Student: But with time it becomes worse and worse. Where do you get the forces?

M. Laitman: True, true, with the time it becomes more and more difficult because the will to receive becomes more cruel, crude. Because you're not like a small child, you now receive a greater revelation of the will to receive, and that's how it will be, more and more. Don't think it will become easier, but if you go according to what Kabbalists write to us in connection with the friends and consistency with a study and everything else, then you'll cope with everything.

Student: How should I purify the will to receive?

M. Laitman: Only with the same light that knows how to do it. We don't know how to do it, we only want the light that reforms. That's why we need to learn what is upon us, what actions do I need to do in order to draw the light that reforms upon my will to receive, that's all our work. So first of all it's through connection to the Ten, through study and through dissemination.

Student: But I feel resistance in everything you're saying, connection and dissemination.

M. Laitman: Of course, of course you feel resistance, it's a good sign that you are going along the path.

Student: But how do I overcome this resistance?

M. Laitman: It doesn't resist it, it helps you, so you will ask for help, without it you would not ask for help.

Student: So prayer?

M. Laitman: Prayer with the friends, with everyone together, preferably throughout the study, in the gatherings, yes. It'll happen, don't worry, you'll succeed.

Question (PT 25): (31:49) Why is the greatness of the Creator in reason something bad? He says here that that's what we want to reach, we want to attain Him.

M. Laitman: We want not to attain the Creator, we want to attain the state of giving contentment to the Creator.

Student: Contentment?

M. Laitman: Yes. I don't want to reveal the Creator, I put a screen upon that. I only want to bestow upon Him and to bestow upon Him beyond the screen, that I won't see Him. Otherwise, I'll do it in order to receive.

Student: We know that we build the upper reason every time. That's what I'm trying to scrutinize because it's in reason, still. The upper reason, we build it stage after stage.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So why does he write that the greatness of the Creator isn't in reason, but above it?

M. Laitman: Above our reason, above our will to receive, above our understanding, that is how we need to refer to the Creator.

Question (Moscow 5): (33:27) What's the connection between the Aviut and the Masach and the desire?

M. Laitman: Aviut and desire are the same.

Question (Moscow 4): (33:43) If there's greatness of the friends and appreciation for their efforts, but there's no appreciation towards the Creator, can you advance in such a way?

M. Laitman: Ask for a connection with the friends, that you'll begin to discover the greatness of the Creator, that the Creator needs to be revealed in connection among the friends.

Question (Hadera 1): (34:14) The difference between a corporeal reason and a spiritual reason, it's only the intention that's the difference?

M. Laitman: Also in the form that it's used.

Student: And what except for that?

M. Laitman: Other than that, there isn't. What for? That you don't have it in parallel. It's not that you can do either like this or like that. There is no same form for the receiving and bestowing.

Student: So where is the freedom of choice?

M. Laitman: Before that.

Question (PT 6): (34:58) He writes in 39 that when you put a Masach on the reason, the abundance won't stop. So what does it mean to put a Masach on knowing, on reason? How can…what does it mean?

M. Laitman: That you put a Masach on the reason, that he can just go with his eyes shut. But in those eyes shut, he has all of the will to receive. And there he gets the knowing above reason.

Student: I didn't understand.

M. Laitman: Well, try and keep going with your efforts and you'll understand.

Student: If I don't know it? If I know, I know. So if I get reason, how can I put a Masach on it?

M. Laitman: You don't want to know, to begin with. You want to attain. You want to work only from faith and not from knowledge. When you get an envelope, you don't open it. You want to receive it and to be according to what the friend told you. What he gives you back.

Student: If I don't open it, so it's below reason. If I work above reason and got some knowledge, so now I have it. What do I do with it?

M. Laitman: This is already a story around this. But you can get the envelope and you have to know that what the friend says, that is the truth and that's what's in that envelope. And that is also above reason. But you can't determine what above is, as much as “they have eyes and they shall not see,” because you don't have those discernments. If he says that these are $1,000 and you find $1, but you take this as if it was $1,000, so by this, you have a clear measurement in how much above reason you are. Well, it's things, let's let go of this. This example I see that it's still very problematic, and who knows. For now, we are working according to “the judge only has what his eyes can see.”

Student: So other than overcoming and perseverance. And other than that…

M. Laitman: Not other, not other. Everything we want is just a result that the light bestowed in that way upon us, and then we supposedly want it. Supposedly we, and supposedly want the light, the Creator does everything. That's it. But we need to help it, to aid it in everything we can. And here I, supposedly, open an area for the Creator to bestow upon me - to implement His bestowal, that He will organize all this. I have to want it beforehand as much as possible, and not to wait until He awakens a desire in me. That's called “I awaken the dawn,” and so on.

Student: There's still some kind of feeling that nothing depends on me at all.

M. Laitman: It depends on me to awaken the Creator through the group, and bestow on us, and also on me, and in such a way to advance. That's it. And if you're so wise, so you can sit and do nothing. That's your business. Kabbalists tell you what depends on you, and you don't start with all your wisdoms.

Question (PT 4): (42:37) Why do we need to see the greatness of the Creator above reason, but the greatness of the friends within reason?

M. Laitman: You can’t see the greatness of the Creator within reason, you always want to go towards Him in the light of faith, after the Masach. But with the friends, you want to connect with them, and see them together as one man in one heart. That's why it is desired to see them in the force of knowledge, in a feeling. A corporeal feeling is closest to reality.

Question (PT 31): (43:29) When you answer the friend, with what ears should we listen so that it won't be from within reason? How to do that?

M. Laitman: If you integrate with the friends, it'll work out. It'll work out. If you want to integrate in them, so from above you will be aimed in above reason.

One must say, “Now I see that the real way is actually to go above reason. And the evidence of that is the fact that now I have been rewarded with some illumination from above, only because I have taken it upon myself to go above reason. This is why I was rewarded with the Creator bringing me a little closer to Him and giving me some awakening from above.”

And this illumination that he has now received gives him an answer to all the questions. It turns out that this testifies to the above reason. Thus, what should I do now so I will continue with above reason? There is only to reinforce and to start looking for ways to dress his work in above reason.

It turns out that by that, he did not blemish his faith at all, since he was walking in it before he was rewarded with any illumination from above, since even now he is not receiving the illumination as a foundation on which to build the structure of his work. Rather, he is taking the illumination as a testimony that he is on the right track, that he is in faith above reason. Only in this form of work does the Creator bring a person closer to Him and gives him room to draw nearer to Him, since this nearing will not let him fall into the vessels of reception, which are called “within reason,” since the Creator sees that he is trying to go only above reason.

Question (PT 18): (48:45) I wanted to ask if every exertion, every effort, every calculation that all the friends do towards the path, towards the Creator, is it all registered? Does it all remain? Does nothing get canceled?

M. Laitman: Yes, for sure. There’s no lack in spirituality.

Student: So, what are we working for all the time?

M. Laitman: In order to gather, that every little bit accumulates to a big sum, and then it opens up. We add and add and add, until there's the force of a Masach, that is equal to the first spiritual degree, and then it can be revealed. Then we work on the Masach of the second spiritual degree, then that will be revealed, and that's how it is, all the ladder.

Question (PT 4): (50:18) What does he mean in the excerpt that the illumination gives proof to a person regarding the form of work? That he uses this illumination as an excuse to work above reason?

M. Laitman: The illumination that a person gets from above gives him the force to continue in faith above reason.

Student: The strength, because he says it's some kind of testimony, what does that mean?

M. Laitman: Let's say, that it's support.

Student: That it's the support from within reason to work above reason, or is that also from working above reason?

M. Laitman: I can't explain, because if there's no reason, how can I explain what support is? Support that you get from the group, from the surrounding light, we get support.

Student: He's trying to find out how he can get some kind of support like you said, that's not within reason, but that enables us to keep going above reason, and not falling to reason.

M. Laitman: You get an illumination that you want to continue with the group, with what you are, and you're willing to support them and be connected to them, even if you have supposedly no proof. But some kind of illumination you get, and it sustains you. You have no mind of it, no feeling of it, nothing. But still, there is some illumination, because it comes from the surrounding light. The surrounding light shines from afar, shows you your future, supposedly gives you some confidence, that's how it works. Until we don't reach a clear first degree, at least a spiritual degree, then it's hard for us to even speak about it. Clear?

Question (Karmiel): (52:31) Is it correct that until we reach the first degree, we work with the Masachim, with screens?

M. Laitman: We don't - what screens do you have? What Masachim before this first degree?

Student: So, how is a Tzimtzum expressed, or?

M. Laitman: We don't have a Tzimtzum. What Tzimtzum are you speaking about? What restriction? I'm sorry. What, you didn't go through the introductions, the Preface, and so on? No. You need to go to a study. Study correctly in a series. When you say Tzimtzum, Masach, degrees, you have to find out when it happens, we have to scrutinize it. M. Laitman: If it's revealed to you, so you do, if it isn't revealed, you don't do. You speak as if you can do this, or that, whatever you want. To the extent that the light shines on a person, to that extent it can determine the state of the person, and that's it. Now, the question is, how do we draw more light upon us to help us advance more? That's the question.

Student: How do I make the light shine, or do I not make it, it just happens itself?

M. Laitman: Did you hear about work in the group?

Student: Yes.

M. Laitman: Yes, so I have nothing else to say. So, understand what you're asking about is childish, stupid. You have what to do and do it. There's nothing else. I can't reveal more means. Now you're all asking for the whole hour. You're asking, how can we do this, and this, and this? Is it clear to you what to do? Connection in the group? And prayer to the Creator, and nothing but that. Please.

Student: I don't want to sound rude, but I do everything I hear every day. I exert in the Ten.

M. Laitman: If you think you did everything, so go home. So let go. Leave.

Student: On the contrary, I'm trying to understand to you where to better direct myself, to focus the efforts towards.

M. Laitman: Only towards connection with the friends to the Creator. That is it. And prayer too, to connection between you and to the Creator. And that is it. There is nothing else. Is there anything to ask?

Student: I'm not able to crack what an action towards connection is.

M. Laitman: Then I have nothing to say.

Student: I'm like a little kid that's doing actions with my hands and feet, but what's this true action called connection?

Question (New York 4): (56:58) Is the ideal state to hate the friends 100% and love the friends 100%, or to do the exits, entry and exit between the hate and love?

M. Laitman: The ideal state is that I love them every time in a new 100%. That's the answer. That's it. And in that vessel I build towards them, then I can reveal every time the force of the Creator, the revelation of the Creator, which is greater and greater.

Student: We're not supposed to erase anything, so there's something that has to remain there which is not love, which helps me feel what love is.

M. Laitman: I always only yearn for love. I don't care about anything but that. I want connection. I ask for the force of connection with the Ten and in it, with the Creator. That is it. I don't pay attention to all the Klipot and disturbances and all these things, let them be. I don't want to even take them into account. I only want to think of one thing. Me and the Ten and the Creator as the goal have to be together. Period. This formula will not change, you hear me friend? This formula will not change. Simply only go to that. And do all kinds of calculations around? It will only confuse you and the friends also. Look how many excerpts we read today and spoke about it, and it's all the same thing. There is nothing special about this. I have nothing new about this. Still, we're speaking about connection in the group and with the Creator.
