Part 3: Everything is Obtained By the Power of Prayer - Selected Excerpts from the Sources #9

Reader: Hello, we're in a lesson on the topic of Everything is Attained with the Force of Prayer. We'll continue reading select excerpts from the sources. We're in excerpt number nine in our document. You can find the study material in Sviva Tova, the Arvut system, where you can send us live questions for the broadcast. “Everything is Attained By the Force of Prayer.” Excerpt number nine from Baal HaSulam.

M. Laitman Introduction: We learn that what we can raise to the Creator, what we can ask, what we can demand, what we can bestow to Him, is only through prayer. Which is a special attitude that a person comes to, and through it, can pour out what he has in his heart. Let's continue from excerpt number nine.

Reader: Baal HaSulam tells us.

Reading:
(01:20) 9. Baal HaSulam, Letter No. 34

We should learn this trade before we enter the King’s palace, meaning muster power and might to stand as a pillar of iron until we elicit the desire from the Creator, as it is written, "Take no rest." Although the Creator seems silent and unresponsive, let it not cross your minds to be silent, too, "Take no rest." This is not what the Creator intended by His silence, but rather to give you power to stand afterward in the King’s palace when you have no blemish. This is why, "and give Him no rest."

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (02:43) What can we learn from the silence of the Creator? What can we learn from the Creator's silence?

M. Laitman: Silence can influence a person as well. Maybe even more than words. We need to learn what the Creator wants to send us. What does He want from us? What can we learn from the silence of the Creator? Which is what we should understand from His message, so simply study more and more, learn what He is delivering to us. It is certain that He is delivering something to us, the fact that this delivery comes to a person on the condition that he wants to receive it. So, we need to perform all kinds of actions that relate to the receiving of this delivery.

Student: If on behalf of the Creator there is silence, how do I know? Maybe I am not working correctly, or I am working correctly. What do I learn from it? It doesn't give me direction, the silence.

M. Laitman: No, silence is one of the relationships between man and the Creator, and the Creator and man. So we need to learn what to do with this silence.

Student: What does a person need to learn that the Creator is silent?

M. Laitman: Silent, meaning he is not answering.

Student: Yes.

M. Laitman: He doesn't want to answer. Why? Either a person is not in the right state, not in the correct state, and then it turns out that he does want it, he is drawn toward the Creator, and the Creator does not want to reveal the connection to him. Or maybe there is something else that is creating a disruption between them, but according to what we learned, there is no disruption. Everything depends on a person. Meaning, if he wants to connect to the Creator, then specifically during the exile, when he comes out of the revealed connection, he has got only one thing, and that is to press all these means that can bring him to the revelation of the connection. The revelation of the connection. And then he will see that indeed there was never a state where the Creator was concealed. Rather, the person has not yet reached the wave with which he can connect to the Creator and build this connection. Okay?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (07:38) He cautions us here and says, if you see that the Creator is silent and unresponsive, then be cautious. Don't be silent towards him. What is he cautioning us about?

M. Laitman: If you ask people who study Kabbalah, they will tell you that they feel nothing from the Creator. In return for their efforts, their prayers, their cries, from the heart, rather the feeling is that the Creator is seemingly asleep, is falling asleep.

Student: That's the state He is describing. But what is He saying to a person? Don't demand, don't you enter into silence yourself?

M. Laitman: Yes, certainly a person feels that he has no connection with the Creator. The Creator is concealed, is in a state, a place, a world where we can't feel Him. That's why a person feels that he has no one to turn to right now.

Student: So, where does he receive the forces to continue to work towards the Creator if he sees no response?

M. Laitman: A person receives this power from the environment. The environment. Everyone in the group needs to feel this pressure, this general pressure between them so it would make them connect and continue as long as the Creator is not answering.

Student: Meaning, you need to feel that your friends are also turning to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Also the friends are turning to the Creator. It's possible that they also feel like me, that everything is in silence. But ultimately, the prayer of many is what brings the Creator out of the concealment into revelation.

Student: So, that means that we have to somehow transfer to one another the feeling that turning to the Creator constantly is important.

M. Laitman: Yes, that's first and foremost.

Student: But do we do that if we don't talk about it?

M. Laitman: You can talk about it. But do it in a more balanced way, in a certain atmosphere, not get into details.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (11:35) What is the communication channel for a person with the Creator?

M. Laitman: What is what?

Student: What's the channel for communication for a person with the Creator?

M. Laitman: A person feels in what he is feeling. A person feels the Creator is not in contact with him at all. His contact sometimes exists, sometimes it doesn't exist. And that is why it doesn't awaken a person to reply to the Creator, to be connected to Him, to be in contact with Him, without continuous contact. This should put a person in such a state where he is connected to the world of Ein Sof, the spiritual world. In the direction of his connection with the Creator. And from there, as we learn, he expects the connection with the Creator to come to him. And then, he will see. But truly, the Creator never left the connection with him. Rather, through the contact with him, with the person, he provides such a loose contact.

Student: When the Creator is revealed to a person, is He revealed…in what is He revealed in a person? In a desire that awakens in a person? Does he hear a voice? Does he see? How is the Creator revealed? What does it mean that the Creator is revealed to a person?

M. Laitman: I can't say, because it could be that there are much more different things that I didn't hear or don't know. A person needs to prepare a place for the revelation of the Creator. That if the Creator wants to add a connection to a person, the person needs to feel this connection in the state he's in.

Student: What does it mean that a person has to feel that connection where he is? Is it in the feeling, in the desire? How is it revealed?

M. Laitman: In the feeling.

Student: So, if a person works, and works, and works, and one day he will feel the Creator I don't know what it is, but let's just assume for a minute.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, in that place, did the Creator, was the Creator revealed for him? So he can say that, in this place the Creator was revealed to me?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How does he know that he's not hallucinating? There are many people in reality who say that they are connected to the Creator, I feel this, I feel that.

M. Laitman: Yes, there are many. But what can you do? We also need to advance in this way. There's a field that the Creator has created, that field of connection between us and him, and we need to awaken the actions of that field upon us.

Student: Do I, or we, have a way to verify that we are in the right connection with the Creator, that we are speaking on the right channel and not hallucinating?

M. Laitman: From all of our studies and the books that we go through, eventually, each one can express maybe something that he depicts, that this is the way the Creator should turn to him. I can’t continue here. This is something a person has to ask the Creator, and in some kind of way, and as much as he is able until the Creator will answer him.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (18:03) Many people in the world speak with the upper force, the Creator, Allah, you name it, all day. Many Jews, too, pray five times a day, and they're certain that He listens, and He gives. And on our path, the requests make me like you, is against the will to receive, because I certainly don't want to bestow. So, it's against everything that the Creator created right now. The advancement is against what He created right now. So, if in this article he says that the person has to constantly speak to the Creator as if He hears him, I see many examples of people who don't study Kabbalah and are certain that the Creator listens to them all day long. Are they advancing better than we do?

M. Laitman: I can't say. I can't say anything. You don't have to believe people who are speaking in such a way. There could be thousands of people mistaking. And there's no justification for it. That's why we just need to simply continue. And each one should scrutinize for himself as much as he is on the path correctly. And in what he could help himself to be in a more precise direction. And continue in this way.

Student: Many Kabbalists throughout history were observing Torah and commandments, meaning, reading the holy books, praying several times a day. It was part of their day. And when I open the prayer book in the morning and I read, I also come to this kind of che, give me this, give me, give me, give me, give me. That's the connection. I praise Him for giving me. And I don't read any other direction there besides this. And these are holy books for years that Kabbalists do engage in. So, what's with this shopping list that I read every morning?

M. Laitman: You turn to the Creator, and you want to be connected with these words that are written, are written in the prayer book or wherever you are. That's how it works. From day to day, from day to day.

Student: And out of this, a person suddenly gets a thought or something? I don't want the shopping list. I want to be like you. Is this what happens?

M. Laitman: It's whichever way a person prepared himself to some questions, requests. Then, and according to that, he's already directed.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (21:52) In the beginning, Rav said that in order to be able to work with prayer, Adam needs to come to a special attitude. What is this special attitude Adam needs to come to be able to pray?

M. Laitman: Truthfully, each and every person in our world and our state, whatever we can just depict, every person is in contact with the Creator. We're speaking about states that, in them, we can bestow upon Him and recognize how He is bestowing back upon us. That's why this is how we learn, according to lessons that connect more and more, sometimes in this way, sometimes a different way, to awaken the Creator, as if we need to awaken Him to connect with us. And in this way we advance, still.

Student: And Baal HaSulam writes in this excerpt that Adam needs to be like an iron pillar. What is this attitude of the iron pillar?

M. Laitman: I think that… where is it that Baal HaSulam writes that a person who needs to be tough like iron, it means that a person already reached his scrutinies on the path, and he's already very close to contact with the Creator, and he's grasping it. And now you simply need to bring him, to organize through him, that contact between the Creator to the created being. That's it.

Student: So, we want to stand in front of the Creator like an iron pillar, because it's our Ratzon? What is this iron pillar?

M. Laitman: That iron pillar is that our desire will be straight, and not in all kinds of directions, that you can conceal it. And we need that we will be concerned for its strength, and where it's directed to, and we'll keep going with all our forces, and bring that pillar, that it will be as a result, a result of all of our qualities, and we will be directed, eventually directed towards that same goal, that point of meeting with the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:49) At the end of the excerpt, he writes, the Creator is in silence, to give you the power to stand afterwards in the King's palace, when you have no blemish. What does it mean to stand in the King's palace without a blemish?

M. Laitman: Usually, we are coming closer to the upper force through knowing, you can say faith, that we do want to enter contact with Him, that He is drawing us with all our flaws, and we, in this way, we enter into connection with Him.

Student: Can it be said that the flaws remain, but we seek to work on new qualities with Him, or is it not what we say?

M. Laitman: No, we still can't answer that.

Student: So, what does it mean to stand without a blemish, without a flaw?

M. Laitman: Without a flaw means that we don't feel what we have, who we are. The Creator is organizing some ascent towards Him, and we feel that we're rising towards Him and reaching a stronger connection.

Student: And then he says, at the beginning of the excerpt, that we need to learn this craft before we enter the King's Hall, meaning to muster strength to stand as an iron pillar until we elicit the desire. What does it mean to elicit a desire from the Creator?

M. Laitman: That the Creator will want to be in contact with us and will help us understand how we attain that point of connection with Him. And how we implement it.

Student: And this prayer, this request, even if it seems to us that He's not answering, we have to constantly repeat it, try to be in contact with Him in this request?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (30:06) Why didn't Kabbalists write clearly signs that the Creator is speaking to a person?

M. Laitman: Where will you search for these signs?

Student: At least in the sources. Why is it not written? It's written how a person should turn to the Creator, but how the Creator answers a person is not written. Isn't it good for a person to know and not be confused that that's the sign?

M. Laitman: We're turning to the Creator, we're asking, we're praying, connecting between us more, meaning we're doing everything in order to be in a clear connection, that in this connection we will be able to receive from the Creator a guidance. And this way we'll advance.

Student: But what is this guidance? What is the sign of the guidance? How do I know that this is the guidance from Him? What are the signs? What, love of friends, or what?

M. Laitman: That is towards the point of connection with the Creator Himself.

Student: Love of friends, when I begin to love them more, is it not a sign that the Creator is revealed?

M. Laitman: It will be a sign.

Student: Right, so it's all a maybe, but what exactly? Or maybe a person should know what exactly are the signs?

M. Laitman: A person scrutinizes all this on the way to the direction of his work.

Student: Is there such a reality when a person knows for certain that this is the Creator speaking to him now?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And what's the sign that the Creator speaks to him, and he's not just delusional?

M. Laitman: That he feels that now he's in a direct connection with the Creator.

Student: But those people who are delusional, also 100%, as I understand it, they also think.

M. Laitman: We will advance and see.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (32:43) In the excerpt, and the questions too, bring up the question, what is the desired outcome from a prayer?

M. Laitman: The desired outcome from a prayer are in the requests of the prayer itself. If we say it in a different way, that's when a person asks for a connection with the Creator. That is a prayer on man's behalf towards the Creator.

Student: So, the desired outcome from a prayer is for a person to come into contact with the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And until he makes contact with the Creator, he has to continue to pray.

M. Laitman: And also afterwards.

Student: And afterwards, when he comes into contact with the Creator, it's a different kind of prayer?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Can a person measure his prayer? Is there even such a thing?

M. Laitman: There is. And sometimes he can change his state to come closer to the Creator and feel how much he's coming closer. And sometimes he can't.

Student: What is he measuring? What is his gauge? That his prayer is correct or incorrect? Or does it even matter? Is measuring important?

M. Laitman: Yes. Of course it is.

Student: So, what's his standard? His yardstick? How does he know that he did something correct or incorrect? How does he…?

M. Laitman: Because a person is in contact with the Creator, he can say what type of connection, the extent of connection with the Creator he has, as much as he attains.

Student: In other words, when a person has the connection with the Creator, he can identify the kinds of connection, the quality?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (35:22) He says here that it seems to us like the Creator is silent. It seems like the Creator's silence is from the perspective of the created being and not from the perspective of the Creator. How is silence expressed in the Ten, in the work between us? How should silence be expressed from us?

M. Laitman: When we decide that, to which part, where we exist and advance on, that we can be in some kind of demand towards the Creator, and from that demand we're expecting a response from Him, that we want to feel it, that response, in our vessels. That's it.

Student: Previously you said that we have to be in an open connection with the Creator. What does it mean to be in open connection with the Creator?

M. Laitman: Open connection with the Creator means for that certain time or that certain state. How can I say it? That I am in such a connection that I can recognize all my movements towards the Creator, advancement, or distancing. I don't want… I do want, as much as I want, to what measures, to be in contact with Him.

Student: Last question, the opposite of what I just asked. If we feel that the connection between us is closed, we are closing the connection between us and the Creator. As if the Creator isn't answering us. By wanting to bring out something new from the Creator, a new force. How do we awaken ourselves if we feel that we are closed and are not open enough with each other? What should we do at that moment that will awaken us to the Creator?

M. Laitman: To reconnect between us and to pray in our connection to the Creator to be in contact with Him.

Student: Meaning, the Creator is showing us that we have to make more efforts between us and open ourselves to each other.

M. Laitman: Yes, that's where the work starts from.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (39:07) I heard advice from Rav that it's good sometimes for a person to go to like a quiet place, be alone, think, talk to the Creator. Why do we need to do that? Because everything's in the contact with the friends.

M. Laitman: In our work, there are indeed such periods, not long ones, but still, ones where I have to be disconnected from the society, from the friends, that I can decide on it, and receive from above, from the Creator such conditions that I'm not connected to my friends and to no one else, and I feel myself that I'm cast away completely. It's not a good feeling. It doesn't lead to many states, but it's good that a person feels that he has been rewarded even with such a state. With the Creator.

Student: What's a person's work in such a state?

M. Laitman: Of course, it is to muster all the strength and from within them pray to the Creator and ask for connection.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (41:21) Why does the Creator hide the connection with the friends to a person?

M. Laitman: It's not like He does it on purpose. He hides from a person his connection with the friends and sometimes relative with those who are near or far. As much as a person nevertheless… to the extent that a person nevertheless advances, the Creator, according to a person's labor, is revealed to him more. It might be in very different ways that are not clear to a person for the time being.

Student: What do you mean? What are those forms? Where should I search for it, or what should I expect?

M. Laitman: You should only expect that for the Creator to be seen to you in a clearer way.

Student: I heard you say earlier that the prayer of the many is what takes the Creator out of concealment into revelation.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, I come to the lesson or during the day, I feel that I'm praying, that I'm in some kind of request. Me, me, me. Where's this transition from my own prayer to the prayer of the many, to the prayer of the Ten? Where's that point that suddenly there's something common between us?

M. Laitman: You still cannot do this. You still cannot be rewarded with feeling vessels that are connected, and within the connection they yearn for the Creator.

Student: So what is the vessel? What is the prayer of the many? What am I expected to do?

M. Laitman: It's the prayer of many, but you still haven't discovered it.

Student: And then what? I have to continue my own prayer.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: So, when we say that we have to reach a connection between us, a mutual prayer…?

M. Laitman: Okay. Yes.

Student: So, just to say that?

M. Laitman: No, only saying will not help. You need to come to a state where we do realize it, implement it.

Student: I don't understand. What am I doing now with these people sitting with me here around the table? I have to build a connection with them? I have an ability to do it or…?

M. Laitman: To begin with, you chose to be in connection with them. And this is why, let's say, before and afterwards, you have to be in connection.

Student: What connection? Right now, it's a formal connection. Where's that common point between us?

M. Laitman: The common connection between you is that you are building a form, a board. Such that each one is concerned with bestowing to what you are drawn to together. That each one bestows upon it his own form. What he thinks should be in his environment.

Student: What do you mean I'm built or building? I know what I think I'm doing. I know what I'm building, that's what I know. What does it mean, we are building?

M. Laitman: That each one in the group does something in order to advance the friends together, to the point of connection among everyone to the Creator. That's it.

Student: Each one is working. Where's that point of connection between us? What connects us?

M. Laitman: It's the center.

Student: What is in that center?

M. Laitman: The connection among everyone.

Student: What is it made of?

M. Laitman: From the tendencies, the inclinations of each and every one.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (46:44) Is revelation equal to offerings of the Ten? They get that same picture of the Creator?

M. Laitman: I cannot say. Also, how can we check the direction, the intensity of power with which one connects to the other into the center of the connection between you? You cannot measure such things.

Student: We have to reach some feeling of love and bestowal. I don't know what that is, but that's the purpose, right? So everybody will feel that same feeling? When we reach that love and bestow, it's the same feeling?

M. Laitman: Everyone… could be everyone.

Student: It's not that everyone will feel it in a different way?

M. Laitman: Yes, in a different way.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (48:02) I'll ask like this, when a person disconnects from anything that happens to him, whatever comes, and tries to concentrate and get an impression whether the friend feels good or bad. What does he do by trying to do that effort, when he tries to disconnect with everything that's happening to me, my advancement? Only concentrate on the friend's corporeality, if he feels good or bad? Try and get an impression that it's the upper force doing all those actions in him?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What? By that, he builds a prayer? By that, he builds connection?

M. Laitman: A person, out of his state, he begins to feel the Creator. Yes? He wants to feel the Creator that is within him.

Student: Yes, to begin with.

M. Laitman: So?

Student: Then he understands there won't be a direct connection with the Creator. Everything he feels, everything he asks, there won't be. So, there's friends. They brought him a Ten, a group, more people that want the same thing.

M. Laitman: So?

Student: So, he disconnects, according to what Baal HaSulam writes, he understands he has to disconnect from his own desire to attain the Creator himself, and he wants to attain the Creator's connection with us, and pray for them.

M. Laitman: This, I don't understand.

Student: What?

M. Laitman: See, I'm a person, I want to attain the connection of the Creator, say, with you.

Student: Yes. Because that's where He's revealed. It's everything they're writing. In love of others, in love your friend as yourself. How can I even demand the connection with the Creator to me? What, am I more important than the others who want it?

M. Laitman: You want to reveal the connection, or the bestowal of the Creator upon you.

Student: Of me?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, where are they?

M. Laitman: Where are they? In that same connection.

Student: I need to think of it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (51:00) He writes, this is not what the Creator meant in his silence, but to help you find the forces to stand in the King's palace afterwards. What force do I need to stand in the King's palace?

M. Laitman: So you will not be tempted or lured into all kinds of directions. So you will stand like iron on your situation. It will determine your situation. Because what we build in tiny grains, we come and collect them together. And by this, we build the soul, our soul, of each one.

Student: So, what could tempt him when he's in the King's palace already?

M. Laitman: I didn't understand.

Student: The answer was that he won't be tempted. That he needs that force so he won't be tempted. So, what could he be tempted when he's in the King's palace?

M. Laitman: Only to give him more and more contradictions, diversions. And by this, he will grow stronger and come to a higher degree. Degree of connection and revelation.

Student: Another question, if I may? He said, don't you be silent, God forbid. So, what is?

M. Laitman: To work, to invent more and more kinds of connection that you want to reach.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (53:16) That a person will be as an iron pillar, does that depend on him or his friends?

M. Laitman: It depends more on the friends.

Student: What's the most efficient thing we can do to make sure every friend is like the iron pillar or support him?

M. Laitman: Support him and expect our common force to raise us together with it to a higher degree.

Student: So, I have to connect with a friend in that moment and with prayer support him? What does it mean to support him? In what do I help the friend ascend to a higher degree?

M. Laitman: By you two wanting to be there.

Student: Do I have to ask for myself that moment, or to focus on the friend?

M. Laitman: Focus on the friend.

Student: So, the request that the friend won't make a mistake?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: On everything the Creator sent him?

M. Laitman: I understand that this is kind of a grey territory. We need to simply continue a little more until it is clear to us.

Student: When a Ten meets, what watches over every friend? Because everyone enters in a different way, a different situation. What connects everybody to that Iron Pillar? What makes us that Iron Pillar?

M. Laitman: The Creator, the common goal. The love of friends. We have no other image in life. Only if we study together, pray together, each one searches for his point of gripping onto the Creator. But that point emerges from his connection with everyone, with all the friends. And the more he scrutinizes it, that point, the closer he is in his connection to the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (56:43) Also about that silence that we find, He renews our force. How can we, in the Ten, pass that force between us in silence? Is it possible?

M. Laitman: When you come to a spiritual act, you see that you have nothing to say. So there are no desires, thoughts, intentions that you can describe about the world. They don't require words. Just think about them, and you'll see how they come. Because in the end, we have to give the Creator an open territory where only He works, and we are willing to be in His hands. That's it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (58:30) I'm going to jump to a personal question. Could there be a state that a person feels contact with a Creator, like a messenger that knocks on the door and gets a gift that he didn't really expect? What should a person do in such a state that he has to ask, who sent this messenger, what do I do with that gift? What does a person do in such a situation?

M. Laitman: I didn't understand.

Student: Again, there could be that connection with the Creator, feels like a messenger knocking on my door, giving a big gift that a person didn't expect and doesn't understand where it came from. Why? What does he do in such a state? Should he ask exactly at that point and try and make more efforts to try and scrutinize that connection he feels now?

M. Laitman: Let's say yes.

Student: You can't say more than that?

We will advance to a lesson summary between us.
