How to Stay Healthy and Happy in Retirement

Israel is one of the countries where people tend to live long lives, beyond the age of 80. The Social Security commissioner suggested raising the age of retirement to 70, and people started protesting. He said that Social Security is running out of money; Plus many researchers show that if a person stops working, many fall into a depression, feeling lonely and work helps them feel meaningful. Even watching people around me who have retired, many started going through a process of wilting away. At first, there is a kind of confusion as if the world has gone crazy. Afterwards, you have a few years at the doctors...Does a person have to work and participate in community life until his last day rather than wither away? True. Take me for example, I am 75. I wake up at 1:30 AM. From 3:00 AM till 6:00 AM, I give a lesson every day. And afterwards I shoot shows, have meetings. To rest is a part of death. Everyone has to work at least for half a day. I am not afraid to stop working because I can't. And thank God for that. Why is that so? Do you think that someone who stops working is making a mistake? Of course they are. When will I get up in the morning? And what will I do afterwards? It's not life. It's being dead while you're still alive. This conversation just reminded me of someone who I really love and who has already passed away. And when he retired, he said that, ""My luck is that I have a grandchild. And now I'm with him and he really saves me."" What if my place of work doesn't need me anymore? How would you recommend them to build their schedule in order to keep the best possible lifestyle till the very end? They should clean their building, their yard. They should nurture their garden, clean the street. It feels good because they would see results from the work, and there are dozens and dozens of others like me that go out and do the same. But there's something inside a person that tells them, ""Sit down, rest."" Nah, it immediately kills you. Because a person is made to work. So it doesn't matter what you do, the main thing is that you contribute to the community. And you'll be 100% healthy, I'm telling you. Because if a person knows that he has to work, he holds himself together. He becomes younger and stronger. Commitment enlivens the person!
