Part 1: Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot. #132.

Reader: Hello, we are reading from the writings of Baal HaSulam. We are in the Introduction to the Study of the Ten Sefirot, we are in Item 132. You can find the study materials in the study material tab in the Arvut system. You can also send questions live here in the hall. If you want to ask a question, stand up, hold the microphone close to your mouth, and ask loud and clearly.

Reading: (00:47) Item 132

We must know that the above attribute of medium applies even when one is under Providence of concealment of the face. By great exertion in faith in reward and punishment, a light of great confidence in the Creator appears to them. For a time, they are granted a degree of disclosure of His face in the attribute of medium. But the drawback is that they cannot remain in their degrees permanently, since standing permanently in a degree is possible only through repentance from fear.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (01:58) He writes that by the effort in reward and punishment, they discover the great light of confidence. What is this effort in the reward and punishment?

M. Laitman: When a person is more adhered to the results from his efforts, that helps him hold on to the degree of adhesion that he attained.

Student: What are the results of the actions?

M. Laitman: That he feels how connected he is to the Creator, how much he belongs to the Creator. That it helps him summon forces to be close to the Creator.

Student: So if you get whatever state, as much as you hold on to the Ten through adhesion, that is the exertion in reward and punishment?

M. Laitman: And more, yes,

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (03:15) So the ability to, meaning the difference between concealment of the face and repentance from fear, is just the ability to hold on to that state, permanently?

M. Laitman: You can't hold on to it permanently but it helps to continue to constantly be in efforts.

Student: Is that the whole difference?

M. Laitman: There are many differences between one state and another, but here, he feels that it's up to him. He feels just how much it's up to him. Can he truly maintain himself with this tendency toward the Creator through the concealment?

Student: In a state of repentance from fear, he receives this constant ability to make efforts?

M. Laitman: After that, yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (04:38) This state is called on the verge of Lishma? Is that state on the verge of Lishma?

M. Laitman: Yes, that state is, yes.

Student: Lishma is already repentance from fear?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And this state that as we make efforts, we get there and then we fall? That's on the verge of Lishma? Can you depict it more?

M. Laitman: No, that's enough. That's what's given. That is why he has to put in great efforts and not to fall from it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (05:33) Making great exertion in faith and reward and punishment, what is the effort? What does it mean faith in reward and punishment?

M. Laitman: The effort is that he has this tendency, inclination, to adhere to the Creator with every means at his disposal. And he sees only the revelation of the face of the Creator will be the answer to all his efforts.

Student: What does it mean to have faith in reward and punishment?

M. Laitman: The result of his efforts will be a reward. And of course, if he neglects it, he will fall and receive punishment; he will become more distant from the Creator. Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (07:08) He connects faith and confidence: He writes, by great exertion in faith in reward and punishment, a light of great confidence in the Creator appears to them. I want to ask about the Ten, what we can give to each other is a kind of confidence. Can we give each other, also, a kind of faith, so that the light of confidence will come?

M. Laitman: No, we cannot share the light of faith between us.

Student: But we do need to work on confidence between the friends?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Now, one of the things is prayer. So, there's a request that maybe some of the Lessons will engage in prayer because the feeling of prayer is very, very powerful. The need for it, as well as its precision, so it's one of the requests. How do we, in the meantime, raise each other's confidence?

M. Laitman: By being together in these efforts, even when we are in concealment, and we imagine to ourselves that we are in one degree below the revelation of the face. And we can receive an illumination from the revelation of the face. And to reach the illumination of the face is possible through mutual effort between us.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (09:26) About the state of medium that he describes. There's one option as far as I understand to make an effort to get closer to the friends. And there's also states where we adopt or embrace habits that don't serve us in advancing to the goal. Like we say, read in some articles, where a person is nourished from something, he already determined is not for him. The question is, also now, before the Congress, it's a very dense period of time. Ultimately, a person doesn't have a choice but to detach from all kinds of things. Cut off things, things that he saw that didn't help him advance to the goal.

M. Laitman: This is something a person has to constantly scrutinize and sort out. What can help him and what cannot help him; and even detract him from his path.

Student: And each time, disturbing things appear. So, once a person detected something, does he already have the ability to detach from that behavior?

M. Laitman: To the extent that he sees damage from the state, it helps him.

Student: From the Creator's point of view, does he already have the ability to completely detach, or is it a process?

M. Laitman: It's a process, a process, and not a simple one. And quite long, a long one.

Student: From the example you once gave with cigarettes, you had a bad habit of being addicted to smoking, maybe a box of cigarettes a day, and then you stopped in a day. So, it's an opposite example, you didn't go to ten cigarettes and then two and then, you just cut it.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How do you relate to that example?

M. Laitman: Through the influence of the environment, a person can take upon himself such behaviors. Such that he hasn't reached yet, according to his inner maturity, but only according to the external pressure.

Student: Let's say that cigarettes is one of the things you said, that on the way I discover to separate from things that don't help me advance. Did you want to stop smoking cigarettes before?

M. Laitman: No, no, no. Also, Rabash didn't push in that direction.

Student: Let's say an issue like that, like cigarettes, let's say, something unhealthy. So, you have the urge for it but no urge to stop it.

M. Laitman: It doesn't bother me, perhaps, if you can point to a problem. If you can call it a problem. There's no revelation of evil, I don't cough, I don't get choked up. I keep going.

Student: So, there could be actions that on the outside they don't serve, but to me, they don't stop me from the goal. So, there's nothing to engage with them. Unless, you discover that they disturb you.

M. Laitman: I don't deal with it that much until today. And until today, I could smoke a few cigarettes a day and I have no problem – I don't see any flaw in that.

Student: Let's go back to what we talked. So, if we want to reach Lishma now; we have the Congress that is coming, we have a strong power here working on it. So, on a personal level, let's say I identified behaviors that don't help me, all kinds of things. Do I gradually need to think of putting pressure on that? But you say, no, not at once, but in a process until I cut it off completely?

M. Laitman: We need to work on the connection between us, and then we will discover things that go against the connection. And then we will try to remove ourselves from

Student: But in the end, it's not enough just to increase in connection. We also have to make efforts to move away from such things.

M. Laitman: Of course.

Student: So, we have to labor, and we can't do it at once. It's a process?

M. Laitman: That's to the extent, you see how harmful it can be.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (15:00) In order to hold on to bestowing to the Creator, a person needs yearning, even love. What is fear, why is that the stage after medium?

M. Laitman: Describe to me, what is the fear that he's talking about, here?

Student: I feel that fear is that he's afraid not to bestow to the Creator. And that it's kind of a conclusion of reward and punishment. So, it sounds like the medium degree, why is that above medium? To come out of the medium degree, you already need to love the Creator. How can you then bestow to the Creator? Keep bestowing to the Creator, regularly?

M. Laitman: A person wants to approach the Creator and he feels the matter of reward and punishment in that. When he approaches, reward – when he moves back, punishment. And he has to go through these states several times so he can acquire an impression from these states—closer or farther. This is reward, this is punishment. According to his states, according to his relationships in the group; that's what he needs to absorb, to see how one depends on the other.

Student: Yes, I'm asking, when you want to hold on to bestow more, more time?

M. Laitman: Yes, I understand, next?

Student: What does a person need to work on? He says that after the state of medium comes fear. It sounds like it's not a new discernment.

M. Laitman: No, it's a new discernment because he wants to reach adhesion, in fact. And here he sees that there's a certain degree of disrespect, of disparaging, that it can be a bit more, a bit less, it's not that bad. There'll be other times. And generally speaking, he's not under pressure, he's not in a race to reach adhesion.

Student: What does a person feel towards the Creator in fear, which, say, is different from medium?

M. Laitman: He feels that he's entirely dependent on the Creator, more and more, and that's an ever-growing matter. And that he must go through with it. And he must acquire this degree. So, he would have fear, trepidation, spiritual fear. He would have the right attitude toward his situation, his state. There are states that are revealed from above, and there are states that we reveal from below, according to where we are; and we need to make a discernment, here.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (20:03) It says here, by great effort in great exertion in faith, in reward and punishment, a light of great confidence in the Creator appears to them. What's the difference between the light that appears and the light of the first spiritual degree, is there a difference?

M. Laitman: In the first degree, he only had some illumination from the degree of medium. But now, he has great light as a result of being close to the degree of the righteous.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (20:53) What is confidence in the Creator?

M. Laitman: Confidence in the Creator is a force that helps me face my evil inclination. That I can stand up, grow stronger and push away all the arguments of the evil inclination.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (21:37) How do we get to this collective effort that he writes about here, not my personal effort?

M. Laitman: That's, in effect, a primary problem; we need to be connected and from our connection, we need to draw strength from that.

Student: How to move from personal effort, where I feel like I'm trying to connect every incident to None Else Besides Him, to a collective effort, that we're all making a single effort?

M. Laitman: The mutual feeling is very different than the individual effort, the personal effort because I can truly draw forces from it. That's the only thing I can belong to, I can have confidence in. This is a degree, a state, where I receive power from the center of the Ten.

Student: What transitions the person from a personal effort to a collective effort?

M. Laitman: He discovers in the attainment of each and every state, you have personal attainment, partial, individual attainment. And here, he discovers that he has an opportunity to hold under the general name of the Good Who Does Good. And he will be able to hold himself, to maintain himself. Sustain himself in the connection with his friends and with the Creator.

Student: The individual urge for attainment, that I understand, that I feel. But the group urge, where does it come from? What pushes the person for it?

M. Laitman: That stems from your sensitivity to it. Maybe this force appears and exists in reality but you were not rewarded with feeling it and now, you are coming to it.

Student: How do you develop more sensitivity to this common feeling between us?

M. Laitman: From wanting very much to be under the influence of this force. And you understand that alone you cannot do it. And in searching for ways to, nevertheless, be close to it, you arrive at the center of the Ten.

Student: What's at the center of the Ten?

M. Laitman: A collection of all the forces that when they connect, they construct the center of the Ten.

Student: He describes the light of great confidence that shines on him. That it's only for a time and not permanently. Why is it only for a time or for a short time?

M. Laitman: It's the beginning of the attainment with this force. A person doesn't require more, he doesn't feel the urge to chase these forces.

Student: He doesn't need to look for how to increase that state, where he feels the light of confidence?

M. Laitman: He would want it but not in the way that it needs to be revealed – not in the same manner in which it has to be revealed.

Student: In times where the great light of confidence shines, what is the work in such a time?

M. Laitman: Just to be more connected to the friends and from the friends to the Creator, and that's it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (27:39) To continue, this state of revelation of the light, these are already spiritual degrees? This is after the first degree onwards?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (27:58) You mentioned several times that we need to get closer to the friends. Now, we know that one who prays for his friend is answered first. About what we said before, that if I see that I have behaviors that don't help me advance on the path, and I need to get rid of them. If I see in a friend a behavior that in my eyes prevents him from advancing, that means I should pray for that?

M. Laitman: It doesn't prevent him from advancing?

Student: In my eyes, I see that it does. That it makes him come less to lessons. It's things you can actually see. So, when we say one who prays for his friend is answered first, do I need to look at what disturbs, hinders him before me and ask for that?

M. Laitman: There are all kinds of responses, there's no single answer.

Student: In the Ten, if we wish to pray. If a friend speaks of what prevents him from advancing, is that correct to do or we shouldn't talk about that?

M. Laitman: Oh, we have to take it seriously.

Student: It's important for a friend to come and say, one, two and three bothers me?

M. Laitman: No, no, I didn't reply to that. I replied to the fact that if he discovers what's necessary for him, what he needs; we have to take it seriously.

Student: What is required for him to advance?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, he doesn't need to say what hinders him? He doesn't need to say what he needs to advance?

M. Laitman: It's not that important. Hinders or, it's really the same disturbance.

Student: So, if you can just direct us about the focus of the work in the Ten: I need to aim towards the others and think of them, to help them? Not look at what prevents me or bothers me? Because we say one who prays for his friend is answered first. Is that what it means?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (30:33) How does a person identify what he needs? I could think of a few things. Maybe I'll do this, maybe I'll do that?

M. Laitman: If it's necessary, he will feel it.

Student: But he's not certain, how can he be certain?

M. Laitman: There's no such thing as certain.

Student: He has to do everything?

M. Laitman: I don't understand you. If a person, if something disturbs him then time after time, he discovers that this is the disturbance and he works against it, that's it.

Student: I'm asking, seriously, because sometimes it could extend for a long time.

M. Laitman: This may be but again I'm saying, if over time it remains on the same level of disturbance, then it's likely the person agrees with it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (31:43) In our efforts to connect a collective effort, we certainly recognize the evil. How do we add to that, getting closer to the Creator? How do we find the balance, the connection, between the revelation of evil between us and getting closer to the Creator?

M. Laitman: By coming closer between us, from that, we come closer to the Creator.

Student: We get closer between us? and then, we immediately discover the personal evil?

M. Laitman: Maybe, what about it?

Student: How do I use it, correctly?

M. Laitman: I don't see that it has to be this way. If we come closer to one another, we reveal the evil between us.

Student: But how do we find the connection between us? The connection with the Upper One? Where we feel that this is the only way to connect to Him?

M. Laitman: We feel that one depends on the other.

Student: And we need balance between these things, getting closer to the friends and the Creator?

M. Laitman: There is a certain influence, but not that it has to be completely in balance.

Question(Petah Tikva Center): (33:31) A bit more about faith in reward and punishment: Can we say that a person each time brings these values closer to his will to receive? That, basically, he tells himself even though the bestowal is felt as punishment, I understand it as reward? Or the other way around, even though the will to receive is felt as a reward, I feel it as punishment?

M. Laitman: It's possible, it depends on his state, on his degree.

Student: Until he sees it as, I don't know how to ask it. My question is, really, how can I measure faith in reward and punishment in vessels of the will to receive? Because ultimately you do your measurements in the will to receive. That, and faith being the reward towards the will to receive, and reception towards the will to receive, being punishment. And so how, well let's say in the end, before a person concludes this degree. Then what he feels in his reason – that bestowal is reward and reception is punishment?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Unity): It says, by great exertion in faith in reward and punishment. What is this addition of great exertion?

M. Laitman: Before he had what he had before, now that he feels changes in the connection with the Creator in the attitude of the Creator, he also wants to come closer to Him and hold on to Him more in order to arrange. To establish those states he's in right now, so that he'll be able to reach this new degree.

Question (Women PT 6): (36:18) How is it possible to get closer and tighter between us? What additional efforts are needed for us to get closer?

M. Laitman: To close the distances between us, to get tighter and embrace, and maintain the connection together as one body.

Question (Women PT 38): (36:44) When a person starts feeling that everything is his correction, and he knows that everything is already in the final state, what necessitates him to care for others?

M. Laitman: Specifically, that state he's in, what's revealed to him is a result of that state. That, we all belong to a single body. We're a single upper force.

Question (Asia): (37:11) Is the direction in the work to check how good the Creator does and not to check how bad I am?

M. Laitman: No, we don't rush to reveal the evil in us. On the contrary, first it's the inclination for good, that's what helps us correct ourselves and approach the purpose of creation.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (37:44) Is there a difference between the light of confidence and faith?

M. Laitman: Yes, the light of faith is more general and when it expands in a vessel that yearns for connection, it becomes the light. Not merely the light of faith but also the light of confidence.

Question (Women Heb 2): (38:33) I just heard, there is a collection of all the forces that in their connection build the center of the Ten. What does it mean, the center of the Ten?

M. Laitman: Where all of us wish to be, when we are connected. One to one another and all of us together. The sum total of all the inclinations, all the exertions.

Question (MAK 16): (39:06) Where do we get all that we need for correction and getting closer to the Creator, getting closer to that center of the Ten?

M. Laitman: From the Creator, it comes from Him – everything is in Him.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (39:20) Can fear also be in joy?

M. Laitman: Yes, why not, fear is not negative. feeling spiritual fear. It's not a negative feeling. It can be through a positive feeling, it can help us and bring us joy.

Reader: (39:56) About getting close to the Creator? What does it mean getting closer to the Creator?

M. Laitman: I have no words, “taste and see the Lord is good”. First, taste flavors.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:30) Why, what you attain, we attain that a lot of confidence, like it says here, why is it afterwards erased? He says here that it's not enough to attain it, permanently. Why some light that you've attained is erased? Let's say we got to some inspiration in the Ten and tomorrow it's deleted? Or after the lesson or anything I'll get to, it will be erased, why? Why do we not have an example that is otherwise? It's never become clarified in years.

M. Laitman: No, we haven't reached it yet, it's not like we've missed it along the way, or that we're not at all. We simply haven't reached it.

Student: He writes here, for a time, meaning they attain some faith, some light, for a time, temporarily. And then it's not enough. You still are in full concealment of the faith, and it's erased. Maybe we didn't get there? It doesn't matter but just the logic of this item is unclear.

M. Laitman: No, for a time, means that we also have to change our states and our degrees. And then we come to what each and every one has to be.

Student: Why at the end of every degree, you start working like you've never been in that degree towards the next degree?

M. Laitman: Because each degree begins from zero, its own zero, and you've never been to that zero.

Student: The next degree starts from zero but if you've already advanced for one degree or several, why doesn't it give you some tools with respect to the next degree so you know how to work with it?

M. Laitman: In these vessels, you discover the zero.

Student: What does it mean, that zero, what does it mean?

M. Laitman: When you go from the fourth grade to the fifth grade. Everything you learned before in the previous four grades, it helps you take in the study in the fifth grade.

Student: This is how it's really in the fourth grade and fifth grade and also in university and so forth. But it seems like in the spiritual work, it's not that way. The light of confidence you achieved or some inspiration. Anything I can remember that I've achieved, here, on the path. Or you come to even just a meal or something and nothing was clear. And then suddenly, you get an impression but then it's erased; and once again, it's not like you now go from the fourth grade to this fifth grade and so forth. It's like it's deleted in a way that you don't even know how to work. You come and anything but leave.

M. Laitman: That's where to start each degree from – from the start.

Student: It's still not clear to me how to ask, but?

M. Laitman:  Okay, it will become clarified, okay?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (44:19) Sometimes there's a sense that the goal is very, very great, there's a big difference between me and the goal. And yet, friends are getting closer and greater. And I also keep hearing to pray for and then it turns out that it's easy to put myself in a position where you ask for the friends. You ask for them to achieve. And now I'm like some supporter, that I don't need to attain, I want them to attain in advance. But we also hear that a person needs a big desire of his own to get to the goal. But seemingly there's a justification because you need to pray for the friends. The question is how to hold on to these two things, is that correct?

M. Laitman: It's correct but you pray for them and you put yourself as part of them.

Student: If I'm not there, there's some sort of a flaw? Can I settle for just being for them a supporter?

M. Laitman: No, no, you won't feel just how much you are taking yourself out of a connection, and it stops being important for you.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (45:52) What you just told the friend, is that the right annulment? Not that I don't exist. But when I turn to the Creator, I always care for the friends, and then that's the annulment.

M. Laitman: Yes?

Student: But the trust to the Creator, the plea to the Creator needs to strengthen all the time. Why is that Lo Lishma, is that Lo Lishma?

M. Laitman: Who told you?

Student: If in such a state you don't feel the Creator,  that it's the revelation of the face, then it's still Lo Lishma?

M. Laitman: No, if you think only of the good of the friends and through them, the good of the Creator, this is already Lishma?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (47:04) I'm asking because we put a big goal of getting to Lishma. And I'm asking with regards to also newer students, who hear about this goal and they feel a gap between them and that. And then they say, okay, so there's a more veteran group, here, they will advance, I think of them. I don't know how practical it is for me to reach Lishma. We heard this from students who are with us less time, and can they relate themselves to this goal, as well?

M. Laitman: Anyone.

Student: It doesn't matter how long you study, here, what you're connected?

M. Laitman: Completely not.

Student: How does it make sense?

M. Laitman: That's how it works according to the logic because everything works according to the desire.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (48:06) It turns out that Rav put a goal that the world group of Bnei Baruch will come in two months to Lishma, am I hearing correctly? It's like all of us are in a big boat, we're sailing towards Lishma. And if everyone really holds on to the boat, doesn't matter what, we all together come to Lishma in two months?

M. Laitman: I don't make decisions about it, I'm just saying that according to the external movements we can reach it.

Student: If I'll refine the sentence: Rav is showing us an opportunity that in two months all of us can reach Lishma? All of us?

M. Laitman: An opportunity.

Student: An opportunity, amazing! So, first of all, it makes us tremble! And he gives a few conditions. He says that even when a person is under the concealment of the faith, by great exertion in faith and reward and punishment, a light of great confidence in the Creator appears to them. And then he calls this revelation of the faith in the attribute of knowledge.

So, coming to the disclosure of the face and the attribute of medium, what I feel he writes here is that there are two conditions. One is to reach the concealment of the face, that providence, and then to exert in faith and reward and punishment. Is that correct, these two conditions?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What is the providence of the concealment of the face? Who is the supervisor, here?

M. Laitman: The Creator.

Student: And a person feels that the Creator supervises, that the Creator is in the concealment of the face?

M. Laitman: That's something else, you're asking about two different things.

Student: I'm trying to understand what is the condition that a person exerts, if he exerts in the faith and reward and punishment, then he comes to the matter?

M. Laitman: Yes, the revelation of the face.

Student: What is the concealment of the face?

M. Laitman: The Creator conceals Himself.

Student: And I'm the person who is now trying to get into the center of the Ten, as you said. And I feel that the Creator hides His face from me?

M. Laitman: If you scrutinize the conditions, then yes.

Student: And if, say, the concealment of the Creator is felt, this is one condition, we can put a check on that. Then he says, great exertion in faith and reward and punishment. So, then what, the person needs to convince himself that specifically if now, during the concealment, he makes an action to get even deeper to the center of the group, he will get a reward; and if he misses the opportunity, he'll get a punishment?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, if I make the right move towards the friends, towards connection, specifically when I don't feel like it, then I get a reward?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (52:03) You said before to the friend that a person comes to this inner ripening on the way. And I wanted to ask, what is that and does it depend on us what to expect?

M. Laitman: We are advancing toward the revelation of the true state, and that we will have the vessels to attain it, to understand it, to live in it.

Student: In this inner change, what inner actions take the Creator out of concealment?

M. Laitman: We will also have to discover that.

Student: Oh, and another thing from the previous item, not from what we read today, but. He wrote that we are rewarded with feeling attainment from the Creator. Is that a difference between feeling and attaining?

M. Laitman: Attaining and feeling – there's attainment and there's feeling. And attainment the can be more in the mind through all kinds of means; and feeling is what appears inside a person.

Question (Ashkelon 2): (53:59) Is it correct to examine good and bad in reward and punishment? For example, there is this saying: one comes out with a loss, and maybe he got smarter in the lesson, but he starts the work of the day and feels distant from the friends, and that's already a punishment. Or he sees the deficiency of the friends and he begins to give up? Appreciate that, and that brings him closer to the friends, and that becomes a reward. Is the awareness to such measurements can help us be more subtle and sensitive in our connection?

M. Laitman: Typically, it can push you forward.

Question (Turkiye 2): (55:07) To what extent does the Creator give the person the quality of fear?

M. Laitman: As long as it's beneficial toward advancing to the purpose of creation. The Creator is not interested in burdening a person with such feelings that will stop him and not allow him to advance.

Question (USA West): (56:03) We have a question from Item 132. I'm going to read the last sentence. But the drawback is that they cannot remain in their degrees permanently, since standing permanently in a degree is possible only through repentance from fear. The question is why is that, why is it permanent only in repentance from fear? What about like repentance from love, why is it only repentance from fear?

M. Laitman: Repentance out of love is repentance in a much higher degree, and that's why he's not talking about it for the time being.

Student: What the friend meant to ask was why do we get to permanence from repentance from fear and not repentance from love? He thought that only if a person attains repentance from love, then he comes to permanency. So, why repentance from fear?

M. Laitman: Because repentance out of fear has a direct influence on the will to receive.

Student: How does it take him to eternality?

M. Laitman: He works with his will to receive.

Student: If he achieves repentance from fear, he'll already have permanency and he won't go backwards?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And he doesn't need repentance from love for that?

M. Laitman: No, he needs it but for something else – for higher things.

Student: But when he attains permanence, repentance from fear is sufficient?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (58:20) How can we increase the yearning to get closer to the Creator, to sacrifice?

M. Laitman: By checking our actions and the Creator's actions, and we see how much they depend on one another and what form of advancement we are in.

Student: Just because the goal always becomes blurry and we have to renew it. And it's not so clear because whenever we renew it, the goal kind of varies, changes.

M. Laitman: Let's keep going.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (59:23) What is repentance from fear? Feeling fear and making repentance from fear, what's the difference?

M. Laitman: Repentance out of fear is when I feel the result of the state I'm in. And this result influences my will to receive and it awakens in me some concern.

Student: What gives permanence, here? He writes that before you attain the degree, you can also feel such things but there's no permanence. What is it in such a vessel that gives permanence and repentance from fear?

M. Laitman: It's a sign that he attained the degree in a static way. He's standing on it.

Student: So, if he doesn't lose it, then he can say he achieved it.

M. Laitman: Yes. Okay, we’re done.
