Reader: Hello. In the first part of the lesson, we will learn from a lesson of Rav Laitman from November 12, 2021. The study material is article Shamati 61, “Round About Him It Storms Mightily.” Now we will read the article together, and afterward we will go to the lesson.

Reading: (00:43) Baal HaSulam. Shamati 61. Round About Him It Storms Mightily

I heard on Nisan 9, April 18, 1948

Our sages say about the verse, “And round about Him it storms mightily,” that the Creator is meticulous with the righteous as a hairsbreadth. He asked: If they are generally righteous, why do they deserve a harsh punishment?

The thing is that all the borders we speak of in the worlds are from the perspective of the receivers, meaning the lower ones limit and restrict themselves to some degree, and thus remain below, since above, they agree to everything that the lower ones do. Hence, to that extent the abundance extends below. Therefore, by their thoughts, words, and actions, the lower ones cause the abundance to come down from above in this manner.

It turns out that if the lower one regards a minor act or word as if it is an important act, such as considering a momentary pause in Dvekut [adhesion] with the Creator as breaking the gravest prohibition in the Torah, then there is consent above to the opinion of the lower one, and it is considered above as though he really broke a serious prohibition. Thus, the righteous says that the Creator is meticulous with him as a hairsbreadth, and as the lower one says, so it is agreed above.

When the lower one does not feel a slight prohibition as a serious one, from above they also do not regard the trifle things he breaks as great prohibitions. Hence, such a person is treated as though he is a small person, meaning his Mitzvot [commandments] are considered small, and his transgressions are considered small, too. They are regarded as having the same weight, and he is generally considered a small person.

However, one who regards the trifle things and says that the Creator is meticulous about them as a hairsbreadth is considered a great person, and both his transgressions and his Mitzvot are great.

One can suffer when committing a transgression to the extent that he feels pleasure when performing a Mitzva [commandment]. There is an allegory about this: A man did a terrible crime against the kingship and was sentenced to twenty years in prison with hard labor. The prison was outside the country in some desolate place in the world. The sentence was carried out right away and he was sent to the desolate place at the end of the world.

There, he found other people who were sentenced by the kingdom to be there like him, but he became sick with amnesia and forgot that he had a wife and children, friends and acquaintances. He thought that the whole world is nothing more than the desolate place with the people who are there, that he was born there, and he did not know of more than that. Thus, his truth is according to his present feeling and he has no regard for the actual reality, only according to his knowledge and sensations.

There he was taught rules and regulations so that he would not break the rules once more, and keep himself from the transgression written there, and know how to correct his actions so as to be brought out from there. In the books of the king, he learned that one who breaks this rule, for example, is sent to a punitive land far from any settlement. He is impressed by this harsh punishment and has grievances at why such harsh punishments are given.

Yet, he would never think that he himself is one of those who broke the rules of the state, that he has been sentenced harshly, and the verdict has been carried out. And since he became sick with amnesia, he will never feel his actual state.

This is the meaning of “and round about him it storms mightily”: One must consider his every move, that he himself had already broken the king’s commandment, and has already been banished from the world. Now, through many good deeds, his memory begins to work and he begins to feel how far he has become from the settled place of the world.

He begins to engage in repentance until he is taken out from there and brought back to the settled place, and this feeling comes specifically through one’s work. He begins to feel that he has grown far from his origin and root until he is rewarded with Dvekut with the Creator.

Reader: And now we'll go to the lesson.

Question (Zafon 2): (07:45) How to correctly act in order to advance in the spiritual work?

M. Laitman: Only what we learn according to these articles, that's the main thing in our work, in the environment, meaning in the Ten, and in prayer to the Creator, that's it. That's called, Israel, the Light, and the Creator are One – I, in my Ten, and with my Ten together to the Creator, that's the actual direction. There's no more than that, all the rest connects to that.

Question (Tel Aviv 1): (08:42) You said, they are me, and I am they. Can you clarify it?

M. Laitman: What is this talking about? About the connection in the group, maybe, I don't know?

Student: You said a few minutes ago, I think, about the connection in the group – I am them, they are me.

M. Laitman: Well, yes, well, was that not clear? Read it again, read the articles, The Social Articles of Rabash, again.

Student: In our group –

M. Laitman: We're not getting into the details of your Ten right now, we're not scrutinizing the details in your group. We're talking about the rules according to the article that we read. I'm sorry.

Question (PT 18): (09:38) He writes in the third paragraph that, thus if the lower one, to the extent that his words, actions, the lower one – if he transgresses below, he agrees that he transgressed below, then they agree with him above. How can it be that above they agree with what the lower one says?

M. Laitman: Yes, because the person wants to adapt himself to the Creator, and to the extent in which he adapts himself, let's say, 5% to the Creator, then from above, it's agreed with him. And that connection, the correct connection is performed, and then a person is cared for with what he has reached. There's an adaptation, a certain adaptation between the upper and the lower one, let's say in this 5%.

Question (PT 31): (10:48) He's writing, and by all the good actions, the memory begins to work, and he begins to feel. The question is, how can we do good deeds when a person is in a state of forgetfulness?

M. Laitman: No, if he's truly in a state of disconnection from the Creator, there are no good deeds. But if, nevertheless, even though he's in disconnection and doesn't feel what he's doing in the group, in dissemination, in all kinds of such things that are not connected to spirituality in a direct manner. Where there is no thought in order to bestow in those actions truly, but in an indirect manner, because of that, then he, nevertheless, is coming closer.

Student: How to portray it, that from above they treat a person as small or as great. What's the difference in the attitude?

M. Laitman: Just like in our world. What can be demanded of a baby and what can be demanded of an adult – a big adult, smart person. And what don't you understand such questions? I think it's an example that you're being given in accordance with our world.

Question (Unity 3): (12:26) The punishment against the righteous is distanced from the Creator. In what way or thought should I relate to this punishment?

M. Laitman: How can I now, by receiving the punishment as fast as possible, be led to correction?

Question (PT 19): (12:53) What are we lacking in order to feel together the greatness and importance of the Creator at all times?

M. Laitman: Mutual support, we're not missing anything other than mutual support. Each should feel that the friends want to help him, and they're also in the same state like him, for the good or for the bad. And then accordingly, more and more, they will lower these dressings, these garments that they're clothed in, and this is how it will happen.

Question (W MAK 36): (13:54) What is the difference between a small person and a great person in spirituality?

M. Laitman: According to the measure of importance that he feels that he is responsible for the Ten, and all together for the whole world.

Question (W Moscow 5): (14:12) What is the disease of amnesia?

M. Laitman: Amnesia is where we truly have no knowledge of the Creator or of the spiritual world and we are in disconnection from Him, that's the amnesia, that's the forgetfulness. It's similar to a person that loses his memory. Let's say a person has an accident, got a blow, and he lost his memory and has amnesia. And therefore, he doesn't know how to drink or to eat. There are states in which it's to such an extent that we have memory, we have a memory that's in our cells, that's in our organs, a memory that's in our muscles – muscle memory – and in our marrow. There's all forms of memory, and all of that comes from this memory, meaning these are records, Reshimo. So, we have also a recollection, Reshimo, from the spiritual world, but where are they? We don't have them, we have yet to manage to awaken them and to revive them. And this is what we're trying to do in our efforts in the Ten. As much as we try to connect between us, just like children that play a certain game. But by doing so we awaken our memory, awaken our records, our Reshimo, and this is what actually happens to us. It's written about this, and you have eaten something that was already known before. That there's nothing new under the sun. But rather it's all a matter of these records, these Reshimot that we manage to evoke, and thus we can be considered that we are revealing the upper world. There's nothing new in it, also now I'm in it, I just don't reveal it because I'm under a state of amnesia. I'm senile, I am disconnected like someone who's an elder with amnesia, with dementia. How can I evoke our feelings to the true reality? This is what we're doing. What is Bnei Baruch? Bnei Baruch is a certain hospital for people with dementia. That feel themselves that they lost their memory and any connection, and others don't even feel that way – it's even worse.

Question (W Moscow 5): (17:35) What kind of limitation or restriction the lower one places, and why exactly should he place it?

M. Laitman: The lower one needs to perform limitations and to tell the upper one, I want to be in connection with You, I want to be in connection with You, a mutual connection. Where we understand one another, feel one another, communicate with one another. In short, in all the forms of connection, but that's how I want to be with You. That's it, I want to come closer to You to understand, to feel – to be with You in a mutual way.

Question (W Florida): (18:40) How can we stop projecting our limitations on the upper degree?

M. Laitman: We need to stop limiting the Creator; we need to be in a connection between us and in an attempt to do all that the spiritual connection demands of us. That's it, to be ready for it.

Question (W PT 38): (19:31) How and for what should we make an introspection on each step? How not to miss that introspection, that calculation?

M. Laitman: I need to observe each moment of my life in a manner that: I what way can we increase the connection between us so that the force of mutual bestowal will be revealed in it more and in it the Creator will be revealed? In such a way – it's actually simple. We need to stabilize this vessel below, and the Creator shall be revealed in it from above.

Question (W Moscow 8): (20:24) How can a person extract himself from corporeal thoughts and not enter the thought that my spirituality is in the hands of the friends and wait for them to decide everything for me? How to make the action, the calculation correctly, to work equally, fully in both worlds?

M. Laitman: How to work in a complete manner between the worlds. Bind your entire corporeal life towards spiritual progress, and dedicate yourself towards spiritual advancement as much as possible. But without disregarding the corporeal world that was given to you so that you will advance also in spirituality. And this will happen to us, this is what we learned: A person must get married, meaning be married, with children, with work, a person must work. Must participate in the group, in dissemination, in all that there is, and advance that way.

Question (W Moscow 6): (21:51) How can a person judge himself as a hairsbreadth, what is he talking about? Is it a more clarified prayer?

M. Laitman: The hairsbreadth is called the degree of precision, which is the highest degree of precision that a person can consist of at the moment, can notice at the moment.

Question (W Moscow 18): (22:18) If we can come out of exile with the help of the friends, the person's sentence is in the hands of the friends?

M. Laitman: The sentence is in the hands of the friends, yes; in order to judge a person, the friends are asked and what they say about him is the way his verdict comes through.

Question (W Moscow 8): (23:00) There are states where they throw a person out of sensitivity for spirituality, for the Ten, for the source, as if everything is erased. Is he talking about such states as well in the article? Or a general state of being exiled from spirituality?

M. Laitman: The more a person is connected to the friends and to the Creator, the more the power of his disconnections from friends and the Creator. And then he really feels what the Klipa is, what darkness is, what death is. Hence, don't be scared, don't be perplexed. But the more we advance, we will have greater descents. According to the rule, anyone who is greater than his friend in spirituality, his inclination, his evil inclination is greater than him. And that's how it will be; we simply need to continue, it's written about that, as an ox to the burden and a donkey to the load. Continue and continue and continue.

Question (W PT 38): (24:31) Is the person in the story an individual person or an entire Ten?

M. Laitman: We usually talk about an individual person that is in a Ten. If he's not inside the Ten, he can't be connected with the Creator. So, he must be in the Ten, and from the Ten, we're already talking about his personal state.

Student: If a person in the Ten discovers himself in the punishment land, what will bring him back to the settled world? What is the settled world?

M. Laitman: I don't exactly understand the question; the world settlement talks about the general world, about humanity. About the connection of a person with the Creator. It's talked about from within the Ten. To the extent in which the Ten will be connected to all of humanity. Still, in practice, we are not there, but I hope that soon this will take place, it will happen. It seems like it will be pretty fast – another Corona blow or something else, and we are already going to discover these things.

Question (W Heb 1): (26:07) Is the speed of coming out of exile dependent on the person alone, or the measure of Arvut between us and the advancement of the whole world Kli?

M. Laitman: This mostly depends on the Ten, just like Baal HaSulam explains to us in the Arvut article. That there are two in a ship, etc. What does it mean two in the ship? Me and the group because it's always me against the group., and this is how we progress.

Question (W Kyiv 3): (26:46) It is said, thanks to the more good deeds, his mind begins to work. The question is, where does a person absorb the force to do good deeds if he doesn't even know what he lost and he doesn't feel pleasure in the work? What motivates him?

M. Laitman: The records, the Reshimo; the Reshimo is called, the point of the heart, the Godly part from above – what remains from the shattering of the vessel. And the records of this evokes us, and doesn't give us rest, and we must advance. Either by more comfortable environmental conditions, or harsher environmental conditions, but this is how we advance.

Question (W Moscow 8): (27:53) Does it follow from the article that a person himself determines how he is judged? And if so, where do the decisions come to the person from by which he obligates the upper force to behave with him the way he asks?

M. Laitman: According to the way that a person responds to that which the Creator does with him, he defines his sentence and what the Creator will do with him. Meaning, it depends on the response of a person; if a person understands less or more what the Creator is doing with him, does he respond more correctly or less correctly? By this, he defines how the Creator will relate to him. In this, it is clear, our relations with the Creator are very simple, according to the way the person is adapted to the Creator. Accordingly, we will take into account all the conditions, all the details of a person, to the extent in which he is close or far to the Creator. And even one’s involvement and engagement with the friends, in dissemination, in the world. With all of his familial calculations, and all the details he has in his life that he doesn't yet know for the time being, even though that he's a person. But that is all taken into account and is related to accordingly.

Question (W Russia 3): (29:59) Explain the sentence: The lower one with his speech, thought, and action causes, from above, the abundance to be drawn below.

M. Laitman: Yes, the lower one, in the way in which it places itself as the lower before the Creator and the group, defines how, from above, he will be related to.

Question (W Moscow 6): (30:35) How is our attitude expressed in this sentence: However, one who thinks about these things lightly and says that the Creator is meticulous about them, is considered a great person, whose transgressions are great, and commandments are great.

M. Laitman: Well, that's clear. To the extent in which a person understands the greatness of the importance and the connection that is defined by, with his Ten, as a result of this and raises the degree of this connection more and more. Accordingly, he's being related to as well. Where a person like this can be opened more spirituality towards, to bring him back to that place that he was in prior to the shattering. Meaning, before, if we could say, before the creation of the world because the creation of the world, the Beria, is called Bar, like outside of spirituality. And this is how we need to return to the degree which is prior to the creation of the world. Meaning, prior to the shattering and prior to all those things. Where there is a unification between the Creator and all of the creation that He later brought down to this world.
