Part 2: Rabash. 936. The Time of Redemption

Reading: (00:41) 936. The Time of Redemption

“On the tenth day, a leader of the sons of Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.”

The time of redemption is approaching and we must prepare ourselves for the light of redemption, which is the exodus from slavery to freedom. It is known that it is impossible to emerge from exile before one is in exile. It is also known that the holy Torah is eternal and applies to each and every generation. Also, we say in the Haggadah [Passover story], “Every generation, one must see oneself as though he came out of Egypt.”

For this reason, we must know the meaning of the exile we are in, and what it means that each generation we must emerge from this bitter exile.

The ARI says that the exile in Egypt was that the Daat [reason/knowledge] was in exile, meaning the knowledge of Kedusha [holiness]. Also, we must explain the meaning of Daat of Kedusha in exile. The Zohar says that sourdough and leaven are the same degree, which we call “the evil inclination,” “another authority,” “foreign God,” “other gods.”

Baal HaSulam interprets that the Sitra Achra [other side] and the Klipa [shell/peel] and the evil inclination are all but the will to receive, and this applies in both mind and heart. That is, the rule of Pharaoh king of Egypt and of Pharaoh’s servants is the rule of the will to receive over the organs, meaning that all 248 organs—when serving the will to receive—are called “slaves of Pharaoh.”

It is known that the first element in the work is the Lo Lishma [not for Her sake]. That is, by education, called “by rote,” one begins specifically relying on the will to receive, as one is made to understand that corporeal pleasures are worthless, since what are man’s years in this world?

Thus, through Torah and Mitzvot [commandments], he will be rewarded with a spiritual pleasure in the next world, which is an eternal world. Also, winning success in corporeal pleasures in this world comes by observing Torah and Mitzvot, by which we will have health and salvation, abundant income and success, and we will live long.

Naturally, because of the will to receive, man has the nature of idleness. That is, some people settle for bread and water, and some need meat and fish, too. Some also need accessories and fine clothes, and some even need luxurious houses. It is all according to one’s vigor, meaning they do not want to work more than is necessary for them.

Each one has his own measure of necessity, but working in order to bestow is not within man’s nature, since man was created with a will to receive for himself. Because obtaining the real pleasures requires being rewarded with Dvekut [adhesion] first, called “equivalence of form,” meaning that his aim will be for the sake of the Creator, called “in order to bestow,” which is the quality of the Creator, who is called “the Giver,” this is against nature.

It follows that he is placed in exile under the rule of the king of Egypt. And since the body is called will to receive, there is no point in serving the Creator against one’s will, since there is no pleasure in something that is compulsory, only a sorrowful life.

But only such is the way of Torah, the way until we achieve Torah Lishma [for Her sake]. Until then, life is a sorrowful life, meaning compulsory.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (07:38) What can every Ten do… The question is how do we advance in exile but not in the bad way? How do we advance in a good way to bring ourselves to the right deficiency?

M. Laitman: Exile and redemption relate to the feeling of the upper force in a person, that if we feel ourselves that we are drawn to the upper force, it is considered that we are drawn to the Creator, are getting closer to Him. So it turns out that we are getting closer to the redemption. This is why He says the time of redemption is approaching. How do we come closer to the redemption, through our behavior, through our connection between us? We determine more and more those states that we read about regarding redemption, and in this way we come closer.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (11:04) What redemption? We have not reached Gmar Tikkun, the end of correction. I understand that this is redemption. So, what is redemption on the path?

M. Laitman: Complete redemption, yes.

Student: So, what is redemption on the path? What kind of redemption does the person have on the path?

M. Laitman: The will to receive is revealed in the person more and more, and the person can rise above it, and this way understand that he is coming out of exile.

Student: In every moment more evil is revealed on the path. So, where is redemption?

M. Laitman: Precisely in this, in that he feels that he wants to come out of exile, but he can’t, and basically this is what tells him about his state, to what extent he is in exile and how much he needs redemption.

Student: So, I constantly discover that I am in exile, in a bitter exile, more and more completely opposite to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And then what? I reach recognition of evil and need for the Creator to redeem me from that state, that’s redemption?

M. Laitman: It’s a demand for redemption.

Student: What will be redemption?

M. Laitman: Redemption means that I want to come out of the control, governance of the will to receive.

Student: So, it is desire to come out; it is not coming out yet.

M. Laitman: No. I do not determine the exit itself. It’s determined from above.

Student: What will be the redemption? What is the state of redemption?

M. Laitman: That we feel that we are controlling the will to receive.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (14:02) It says that the ARI said that the exile was the reason for holiness in exile. What is that reason of holiness?

M. Laitman: It is that the Creator manages everything. He is in all our actions, and all our actions, completely and only by His will, can we rise above the will to receive and be in the desire to bestow.

Student: So, a person has to see if there is a reason for holiness, and that is the exile?

M. Laitman: To understand it.

Student: Meaning, to recognise that there is such a thing, and the state he is now is an exile?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How can the Ten help us, or for the friends to see this thing?

M. Laitman: He understands that if he uses the power of the Ten, they are surrounding, pulling. Then he can come out of exile.

Student: So, a person has to see that there’s the control of the Creator, that he is not in right now, or he doesn’t want to be in it, and only with the friends is it possible to come out and reach it.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (16:26) I heard that we need to bring our states closer to redemption. How in the Ten can we depict that state that we are coming closer to redemption? What should we do in our actions that we will feel that we are closer to redemption?

M. Laitman: We need to learn what the conditions are to be in the redemption and then see to what extent we are in it or not, approaching it or not, and in this way to feel ourselves more and more that we are moving away from the exile and toward redemption.

Student: What are those conditions? Every time that we meet together what conditions should we have to put before us?

M. Laitman: The main thing is the will to receive. As much as we are in a thought or desire in the will to receive then we are in exile. To the extent that we want to get out of it and we make more efforts to come out of it, we approach redemption.

Student: He wrote at the end article about happiness and sorrow. How can we measure the states of sorrow, because we have to go through it? How can we measure the work between sorrow and happiness that we are coming closer and closer to the goal?

M. Laitman: According to how we feel everything in life. Do I really want but still can’t get it, can’t have it? In this way we try to muster our strengths and approach redemption.

Student: Can I define sorrow as a deficiency? Is it the same thing? Is it a deficiency?

M. Laitman: Yes. Sorrow is sensation of a lack.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (19:07) He writes at the end of the article that you can forcefully work for the Creator. But we are made of the will to receive. So, will there ever be a state where a person will want to work? The will to receive is always there.

M. Laitman: Yes. But when we want to rise above that desire, to come out of it, these are already the states of redemption.

Student: That a person want to bestow from his own desire? Could there be such a state?

M. Laitman: We learn that it all depends on the elimination from above, and we begin to try to come closer and closer to it.

Question (Women Petah Tikva 6): (20:14) What is the light of redemption? How do we awaken it effectively?

M. Laitman: The light of redemption is the force we receive from above, and with the help of this force we rise above our will to receive, and in this way we come out of exile.

Student: What does it mean to determine between us in the Ten the state called redemption?

M. Laitman: It is that we learn what are the forces, what are the manners of behavior that we have at the time of redemption and we try to live accordingly.

Question (Women Petah Tikva 38): (21:30) How do we connect in order to come out of the control of the will to receive on us?

M. Laitman: This we feel especially in the state of exile as the state that governs us, and we want to come out of it and unite above it, we discover what is the force of exile and what is the force of redemption.

Student: What is exile and how is it expressed in the Ten?

M. Laitman: In the Ten we feel the exile, and we want to come out of it. Then within these two forces—the force of redemption and the force of exile–we discover who controls us and this is how we try to be.

Question (Women Latin 26): (23:13) Adhesion to the Creator obligates equivalence of form, meaning working in bestowal. What can we implement in our relationships with friends in the Ten in order to develop equivalence of form and strengthen the spiritual connection between us?

M. Laitman: We will try in the relationship between us to determine the same relationships that are suitable for redemption, and in this way move away from exile.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (24:27) The moment we receive redemption, it brings desire for new order, and the idea of the exile is to acquire vessels. That’s why the sons of Israel were in exile. Can we start organizing a new order even though we are still in exile, because part of the exile is that we cannot receive all of the light?

M. Laitman: Yes. During the exile we receive only small portions of the upper light which influences us and helps us feel what is exile and what is redemption. In this way, by strengthening ourselves in the state of redemption more and more, we can see our nature and our state as we gradually approach redemption.

Student: Building a new order in advance. Is there anything in that?

M. Laitman: We don't know.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:02) In the exile the Creator is in control of us, and in redemption He is also in control of us. So what's our work here?

M. Laitman: In our work it is to try to come closer to the state of redemption. At the time of redemption, the force of redemption, the will to bestow, begins to control the will to receive more and more.

Student: Who's in control of the will to receive?

M. Laitman: The will to bestow.

Student: What is a person to do here? I don’t understand. The Creator is in control in all states. He changes from reception to bestowal. So, the created being is just a puppet of the Creator, that He just takes him from exile to redemption. If He wants to, He'll give him, iif He doesn't want to, He won't give him?

M. Laitman: Yes, it's all according to a person's request

Student: What does a person ask for to get redemption?

M. Laitman: To get closer to it, to enter it. We're talking about a person, so to determine for himself what state he wants to be in and what he wants to do for this.

Student: But redemption seems like a bigger fulfillment for the will to receive, meaning take me out of the suffering I have in the exile, and give me a bigger fulfillment than redemption.

M. Laitman: This already depends on how a person depicts to himself what is exile what is redemption

Student: What's the right depiction? What should a person come close to?

M. Laitman: Exile from what and redemption to what? This, a person has to determine for himself clearly, If he's in the will receive or the will to bestow. Is he drawn towards the will to receive or to the will to bestow. And how to come out of the will to receive or receive the will to bestow, and in this way, come to redemption. The difference between exile and redemption, Baal HaSulam writes, is in the letter Aleph, the Aluf of the world, the champion of the world, which tells us that we need to discover the Creator, that He controls with His power over our will to receive.

Student: To begin with, I'm programmed to the will to receive, meaning my definitions are how to get more fulfillment. That's what I can depict, and not being an exile from the Creator or redemption is close to the Creator. How can we depict the will to receive? It's already thinking in bestowal, it's something that isn't in the will to receive.

M. Laitman: We are in a state in which we can determine for ourselves that we are in gradual disconnection from the exile, and we are approaching redemption.

Student: How can a person depict redemption as more and more bestowing to the Creator? How can the will to receive fantasize on bestowing unto the Creator?

M. Laitman: This needs to be done through learning, studying, and working in the society.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (30:44) The path of redemption. Before the degree of redemption, is there a degree of faith? Should we acquire a degree of faith?

M. Laitman: Before the degree of redemption there should be revelations of many states, many degrees, all of which influence a person and take him out from the state of exile into the state of redemption.

Student: And the preceding state, one of the necessary preceding states, is that the degree of faith?

M. Laitman: No, this is the degree of exile, that he is in the will to receive for himself, and how much that state is not good, how much he disagrees to be in it. All of that is the state of the exile.

Student: The state of exile is a given state that we are in. The state you're talking about is recognition of that state.

M. Laitman: Being in that state means recognizing it.

Student: Recognizing that I'm an exile?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, from the state that we’re in the exile, and there are forces that are supposed to pull me out of the state of exile, I need faith in that force. I have to acquire some understanding, knowledge that there’s something above that state of exile.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So that's still faith?

M. Laitman: That's called the power of faith.

Student: How do we attain the power of faith, from where?

M. Laitman: Through the group, through learning, connection between friends, what we've learned a lot.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (33:16) I heard we have to depict ourselves the state of redemption.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: From the perspective of the will to receive, why should it want to have the Creator’s complete control and for itself to be a subject of it? Why should the will to receive depict this?

M. Laitman: We are in a society where each one can depict to himself what the power of redemption means, and although each one is very weak at this, by connecting among us we amplify the power of faith, the will to bestow, so it acts in us more and, accordingly, we will get closer to it.

Student: But the will to receive, that is depicting the state of redemption. So we tell it, what is redemption? Complete control of the Creator. Why would the will to receive want that?

M. Laitman: Why should it want it to be under the control of the Creator? It's because the will to bestow that there is in the control of the Creator is preferable for a person to the will to receive.

Student: So the meaning is that the will to receive will be completely for something else, bigger than him, greater than him? What kind of existence will it have there?

M. Laitman: When the will to bestow controls us, it is greater than the will to receive. We can realize its control.

Student: Simple question, it's like what's this work for you? But still, what will the will to receive gain from this?

M. Laitman: The will to receive wants to control the will to bestow, and therefore, it searches how it can achieve control over the will to bestow. When a person makes efforts to get out of the control of the will to receive and approach the desire to bestow, it happens,  and a person enters the will to bestow that controls him and this is how he cleans himself completely from the will to receive.

Student: I'm only asking about depicting that state of complete control of the will to bestow. So, in order to depict something you have to see a profit, you have to see a pleasure, otherwise why should I depict this?

M. Laitman: He depicts to himself the control of the will to bestow in him as a great gain, great profit.

Student: What is a profit? What is in that state that isn’t in the will to receive, that it can even receive anything from it?

M. Laitman: The profit is that a person is under the control of the will to bestow, and that he comes out of the will to receive. The profit or the gain is in that a person enters the power of bestowal and begins to determine that this force is what controls the world, and that force is called the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (39:28) Can we say that after we have the restriction and the reflected light only then do we enter the exile?

M. Laitman: There's the matter of recognition, meaning that a person is in the will to receive that is controlling him, and according to the control of the will to receive, he can determine that he is an exile.

Student: So the fact that you want to begin to rise to the will to receive, even at the beginning of the process under a certain exile? There are stages?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:33) Should we depict some corporeal game in the beginning? Like the story about Haman when he needed to grow, and that he would have a very big will to receive, specifically, to push Mordecai there?

M. Laitman: You can say, that maybe.

Student: Like say, for example, from Lo Lishma to Lishma, from not for Her sake to Her sake, like to say I have a great game here and push the will to receive here?

M. Laitman: We need to see recommendations from our writings.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (41:32) In all of the depictions we heard now in the end there should be some requests from that upper force to do it for us, because we can't do it. So, what phrase would you recommend for us? How should we ask so that the request would be answered? How should we phrase the request to the Creator?

M. Laitman: That the Creator will control all of our forces with His force, and then in that light, we will see the light of redemption.

Student: So, the Creator controls our strength. We know the Creator controls, we also feel in every action, He is there, He does it. Now, I want Him to continue the action and lead us to being like Him. Is that a legitimate request? Should we ask like this?

M. Laitman: Whichever way you want, whichever way you can organize your thought, that's how you should organize it and turn to the Creator.

Student: And what recommendation do you have on how we should do it?

M. Laitman: I don't have a recommendation. I take everything from the writings.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (43:22) The article ends with: When we are in exile it's a sorrowful life, and along the way it’s a sorrowful life and coercion until we reach “for Her sake.” So, in our preparation toward Passover what should we force ourselves into, what should we pressure ourselves, in order to come out of this sorrowful life?

M. Laitman: We learn from our books that the main thing is the connection between us, and from the connection between us we can reach the feeling of the force that will take us out of exile.

Student: So, the coercion he's talking about, should we translate it into coercion in connection?

M. Laitman: Coercion in connection? Let's say, yes.

Student: Can we advance without coercing ourselves into this?

M. Laitman: No, we should want to come out of exile and that this force will control us.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (44:55) Are there steps that are necessary to take before we come to redemption? Say, like through feeling the desires of the friends, to see the truth, maybe we need to concentrate on the preliminary stages before that?

M. Laitman: We learn it, we read about it, we try to implement them.

Student: So maybe we should focus on what we need to go through beforehand, or what do you advise?

M. Laitman: My advice is simple. Read all the articles that talk about coming out of exile, coming out of Egypt.Try and be in all of these stages directed exactly to the connection between us, and from the correct connection between us to the Creator, and that is the path.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (46:12) Can we give a personal example in this yearning to come out to redemption?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How is this example expressed? How does it manifest?

M. Laitman: We are divided into groups. We're developing the will to bestow in the groups, in every group, in every person towards the friends, and in this way we gradually rise above the will to receive towards the will to bestow.

Student: When we talk about personal example that we give to each other in this yearning, is it only external actions how we appear to each other, or is there also a layer of a person's inner relation which is also a kind of sorts of personal example?

M. Laitman: Each one has to give a personal example to the other. In society, in the group, in the Ten, each one must give an example to the others.

Student: How do we absorb the examples of the friends? How can we become impressed with it?

M. Laitman: That's already a person's inner work, as much as he understands that from such examples he can also advance, and his success depends on it.

Student: Can we say the way to redemption is to be more and more impressed by the examples of the friends?

M. Laitman: Yes, that's why we learn how to be connected in the Ten, and through the Tens the bigger groups, how to be connected correctly.

Student: So, this afternoon in the afternoon lesson we want to begin this topic. That's our weekly topic–-personal example. Do you have any advice how to approach this topic correctly?

M. Laitman: Approach the connection between us and the groups in order to bring ourselves closer to redemption. For that we have to see how much we're still  in exile and what else we're lacking in order to suffer the exile, and on what it depends on to reach redemption, what forces we need to discover, and by that we'll bring ourselves closer to redemption.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (50:29) He's giving us a solution how to adapt our intention to every state. How do we do that?

M. Laitman: We want as much as possible to feel in ourselves that we're coming out of exile from the connection of the desires to receive, and as much as possible, going towards the will to bestow.

Student: What should I aim for all the time to strengthen connections between us? What should we aim for in the Ten?  You said that out of our objections, our resistance, we can connect and without resistance there's no connection. So, how do we strengthen our intention to make it more real, more correct so our prayer will be more correct, true, or more aimed so we get what we want? How do we bring this real intention?

M. Laitman: We learn that by each time feeling the force of the will to receive that controls us and wanting to run from it in all kinds of forms. Then it comes to us more and more, and we either run more and more until we can't suffer its control on us anymore, and that's how we come out.

Student: In the prayer we do each day, I come to this real point. How important is it to be true to ourselves, without feeling and to truly ask the Creator for what we need, because we often feel like the prayer is not enough. Even though it's just words, we don't really want it to come from our real state. How do we come to this deep prayer so that we really come out of it?

M. Laitman: We cannot measure the truth. But, every time, as much as we're drawn to the will to bestow, and we try to come out of the will to receive, that's our true state.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (54:06) He's speaking of Passover as a holiday that we come out of slavery to freedom. How do we depict freedom to ourselves?

M. Laitman: Freedom from the angel of death, as they tell us, that we can rise above our will to receive and, gradually, we will be incorporated with the will to bestow.

Student: Why is the will to bestow freedom? In what sense?

M. Laitman: The will to receive that we were born in and grew in, is actually what holds us in oppositeness to the Creator, in the distance from the Creator, and in this way we try to be in the force of bestowal.

Student: Why is being in adhesion with the Creator freedom?

M. Laitman: Because the force of freedom is the force of the Creator, that in it we are incorporated and we exist, and in this way, we can rise above our egoistic nature.

Student: Does the Creator’s control in a way of redemption cause the Creator to determine everything in a manner of  good and doing good? That's also not freedom, or is it?

M. Laitman: According to your definition every force that's in control is in control, and all the other forces aren't in freedom. So, we define it according to what the kabbalists discovered and determined, that the force of the will to bestow is the force of redemption, and the force of the will to receive is the force of exile, and in this way we need to accept it and try and determine that in each and everyone.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (56:52) The ARI says that the exile in Egypt is the reason or knowledge for holiness in exile. We get all kinds of influences from the Creator but when I check, I see that I don't know them enough, I don't know the Creator enough. How do I extract more knowledge and more reason from the influence of the Creator on me?

M. Laitman: That's through the efforts that we want to determine between us the stages of connection and control that resemble the Creator.

Student: The Creator sends us strength, so we can rise and connect. We see these fluctuations between separation and connections, and I check at the end of the day, to what extent do I know the Creator? And it's always lacking. What do I do so that in the next activity I'll have more strength. I need to know the Creator for the next action.

M. Laitman: Just as we learn, only prayer.

Student: In other words, to know the Creator a person has to ask to know Who he's going to know?

M. Laitman: Yes.
