Love - Selected Excerpts from Zohar for All

1. Rav’s Introduction. (00:30) Yes, to be honest the topic is not simple. Everybody knows what love is but none of us know what spiritual love is. To the extent that we will try to come close to it and try to talk about it to be familiar with it we will understand more and more how much we don't understand it and have no taste in true spiritual love because we are all in the opposite love, in corporeal love which means the will to receive that love something that's good for it. That if he feels that is good for him that it fills him that he loves. You can see it clearly on babies and generally on all people to the extent that the person is growing. Then he is more and more trying to cover this attitude of love towards something, someone, to coat it with certain shapes and relationships, however when we talk about love which is spiritual love, there we don't have much more to add to say. It is love that we will try to know it as much as we can.

Reading Excerpt 11: (02:18) “Jealousy is as harsh as the nether world..”

2. R. (03:24) Firstly we see that the Zohar Is speaking in a very direct manner. It says that there is no complete love if the person is not jealous. That love and jealousy need to be at the same time, simultaneously and whoever hasn't got jealousy than his love is not correct. Therefore we must be concerned in order to have jealousy as well in order to advance in love. Why are you looking at me like that?

3. S. (04:10) What is jealousy?

R. Jealousy, I don't know, jealousy. In different languages, in Russian…

S. In Russian I understand. But what is jealousy in essence? Once it is in spirituality what is it?

R. Jealous, there's many shapes and forms in it. When I love a person, the person who I love, I am afraid that he will move away from me, fall apart from me, that he will start noticing someone else. Like in this world, where else can we study and learn all of these qualities? Yes, let's hear it for my friends and for my men and women friends.

4. S. (05:18) What does it mean to be jealous to be envious of his wife in a spiritual way?

R. The Zohar explains to you that like a person loves his wife and also he is envious that someone is for example looking at her or maybe wants to draw her towards him. This is how we need to be concerned in such emotions, relationships that we have the same attitude towards the Creator?

S. To the Creator that means that he will pay attention to you?

R. Yes yes that the Creator will not let go of me and won't be distant from me and  will not turn me around. I will relate to him in the same love, the same feeling that relates to me and not that I love him because he is bestowing abundance to me. However I love him for everything, in the good and in the bad. I am envious or jealous of His relations towards others. I want it that He will relate to me in all His abilities and I want to relate toHim in all my abilities that we will come to such a relationship and attitude towards each other, to such an embrace that I will be filled with the Creator and I would want Him to be filled with my attitude towards Him. Try, try and warm yourself. It's such an emotion, in such a feeling, in such a desire, in this such a deficiency.

S. How to warm yourself in the correct way?

R. no translation.

5. S. (07:49) The Creator is envious and suffers if not all of our attention and all about intention is towards Him?

R. Yes

S. Does he suffer?

R. Yes.

S. If for example a friend is not envious towards a different friend towards the Creator?

R. No no you don't need to be envious of a different friend towards the Creator because the Creator has a lot of force, a lot of forces, to relate with each and every one of us and to love us from that nobody suffers, nobody suffers. The Creator can love at the same time and no one would feel that he is paying more attention to one person then to another person less.

S. It turns out that the Creator is very happy if we increase the importance of spirituality?

R.Yes

6. S. (09:29) You said to another friend, "In the thoughts to warm the desire of the Creator towards me, in what thoughts?

R. How can I explain such a thing to you? You are a woman in what thoughts can you warm the intention of the Creator towards you or your thoughts towards HIn. You need to act in all of your strength in all of your might with all of your feelings and kindness.

S. It turns out that it is an example if a woman would say to her husband, look, there are such wonderful women around you? Why aren't we doing this? We don't have the strength to do so.

R. Because our love is egotistical and we learned that we only move apart from the Creator. We will advance and we will see.

S. Nevertheless even in spirituality we should do...

R. In a spiritual way we should pull or draw everyone towards the Creator so in such a manner we are also connected to the Creator through my friends. In other words I am only strengthening the connection to the Creator.

7. S. (11:18) I was always taught that you shouldn't give a reason for someone to be envious of you. How Can we do it so that we can cause the Creator to be envious of us. That we can be relaxed and that we haven't done anything bad?

R. What is the bad thing? Why do you think it's a bad thing? We need to come to a state where each one will be envious of others and each one will try to be connected to the Creator and to each other and then this competition between us will increase the love. This is the difference between altruistic love and egoistic love.

8. S. (12:25) Envy is egoism in corporeality and in spirituality it is not egoism?

R. No, in spirituality it is not ego. In spirituality envy is when I'm jealous of the other that he can give more than I can and I want to be like him. We will study this.

9. S. (13:14) Yesterday we read that jealousy is as harsh as it is with love. The names love and jealousy come from the left side. How do love and jealousy which we proceed as opposing come from the same left side?

R. You are correct. The only question is which side does love come from and jealousy? There is a jealousy where I want to kill the other and there is a jealousy that I'm jealous of him and I thank you that he is giving me a good example. It is the same thing with almost everything. It all depends on how we receive or receive these qualities of love and jealousy. Think about that.

10. S. (14:33) At the essence of this matter it is as if jealousy awakens shame in the person.

R. This jealousy is a very great force that pushes us forwards.

S. If I heard correctly then envy, then if I have the correct jealousy towards the friend inside there should be shame in me?

R. Yes.

11. S. (15:24) He writes in the first article that jealousy is as hard as the Netherland, any person who loves. His jealousy is not tied to it is love is not love since jealousy completes the love. My question is, does it mean that jealousy must be in order to complete the love so does that have to also be for the friends in the ten?

R. Of course it does when the students of Rabbi Shimon wanted to kill each other, how did they come to such a state where they wanted to kill each other?

S. Out of love.

R. Love, jealousy, hate, complaints towards each other, until it all connects and is aimed towards connection in everyone and the Creator.

S. But in the Ten it is a bit more complicated so how would a friend understand that I'm envious of him and not resisting. I know in the ten, there is a lot of hardening and burdening. How do you understand that it is jealousy towards love, how do you show it?

R. Think, you are an old man, you have a lot of experience, think.

12. S. (17:07) Is there a common line between jealousy and trepidation or fear?

R. No, there is no direct line between the two.

13. S. (17:32) The question of a friend, jealousy is the suffering from moving away and from the desire to be in adhesion?

R. It is not necessarily moving away physically but yes you can mention it as going apart. Jealousy is when a person feels that he's not connected enough with the others and some sort of forces or strength of relationship or another person is in between them.

14. S. (18:45) Should we make our friends feel that we have all the love of the Creator above the love of the friends or is that not important?

R. It's a good question. It could be that the love of friends brings us to the love and the Creator. It could be that this is the way it is that you cannot have stronger love to the Creator then to the friend, that is for sure. This is how we should build it from the love of the created beings to the love of the Creator. The Creator would be as the result of our relations and attitude towards the creative beings or to humans The Creator is standing behind them. If I am coming to a good attitude then by that I'm coming to the same attitude to the Creator.

15. S. (20:06) Is the Creator jealous of us because he wants us all together but how can we be jealous of him if he does love everyone?

R. Yes, but I think that it is not enough drawing me towards Him. That is how it is. For example with a mother she has a few children and each one of them is jealous, envious of the others.

16. S. (21:03) Can it be spiritual jealousy without the intention to bring contentment to the Creator?

R. Yes, it could be this way it could be the other, what you need to start.

17. S. (21:22) When the friends in the Ten don't feel envious about the recognition of it but the shame, apologetic, How to raise the friends into a spiritual jealousy?

R. You need to check if they are not playing or acting in good relations, in a good attitude and nevertheless to come closer to each other.

18. S. (22:04) Yesterday you said that spiritual love is the love that I feel in my friend's heart. Is this love in my friend's heart the love that she has for our friends, for the Creator and in spirituality, What is it that? The jealousy and the hate that the friend has in her heart?

R. No no I must not feel that. I want to fill in all my strength with only love and connection.

19. S. (22:50) Direct jealousy to the Creator, I don't know I don't feel it yet. I have jealousy towards you. I want to give pleasure to you more than I want to all my friends but I have jealousy to the Creator but I am jealous of you through the Ten. I am Jealous of you.

R. What can you say? Continue, eventually you will come to it and that you will see in what way you need to relate to me, to the Creator, to the Ten, but it is good, continue.

S. That means that this is normal through you to the Creator because I don't have the direct connection with Him.

R. You think that you don't have it but you can turn directly to Him.

20. S. (24:06) Spiritual jealousy is something that is good. Is it from the good that does good and is also hard?

R. Yes. It is always good. It shakes a person and brings him from state to state. You are better off being envious of everyone. Envy and jealousy is something that moves and develops love.

S. She is saying is it something permanent or hard something hard, stiff?

R. It always changes.

21. S. (25:16) If the friend would like to move from this Ten to a different Ten for personal reasons should we feel jealousy would it be corporeal jealousy?

R. Experience, experience it will be good check yourself.

S. Do we need to do some sort of discernment or is it the will of the Creator and we need to accept his?

R. Check, decide, discuss it and then you will do it.

22. S. (26:03) If I am jealous of the friend for some qualities that because of them she is closer to the Creator if I received these qualities for myself at least I will try to be a little bit more like her or the Creator be happy?

R. If you try to be closer to the Creator, He will be happy with that, if you try to be closer to the friendly He will be happy about that.

23. S. (26:39) I understood from the text that you can be envious, after all the friends are part of my desire and I am loving them and I am envious of them and only because of the effort that I am putting into them in the corporeal world but in spirituality maybe I need to somehow, not just to make them look pretty with some sort of corporal that I put in but to also relate to them more spiritual attention that I will be decorating the divinity.

R. Let's settle this this way. You act with all your might or your strength to strengthen the connection between all of you and the Creator and you will see results.

24. S. (28:00) Envy is the same meaning that awakens in us from time to time in order for us to come close to each other or is it something that should escort us on a permanent basis?

R. Preferably on a permanent basis

S. But each time on different qualities something new each time

R. Yes.

25. S. (28:34) You said to check whether we are not acting in good relationships but if I am a note in front of the 10 and we don't insult each other we just relate nicer to each other that's annulment

R. Yes.

S. You said to check this good relationship, are they correct when they come out of annulment?

Y. Yes.

26. S. (29:39) If a person is very envious in the corporeal world does this mean he is envious towards the Creator as well

R. That doesn't say anything.

27. S. (30:00) How should we treat someone who is jealous of us?

R. Show him love. Yes.

28. S. (30:32) At the end of the day I am afraid of not being jealous of my friends. How can I overcome this concern?

R. To overcome the jealousy you can only do that through love, to balance the jealousy and the envy with love.

29. S. (36:17) What is the difference between […]

R. These are two words that describe the same thing. They are all the same jealousy in Hebrew jealousy includes or the relationship in Hebrew it is the same word. It is envy for both and it is something that is time-dependent and it doesn't matter which is a different discernment of jealousy or something more corporeal physically.

30. S. (32:30) Do we increase our jealousy towards our friends at the same time that we can get close to them?

R. Yes.

31. S. (33:21) Today we are discerning or asking what is jealousy and jealousy in the Ten, does jealousy in the Ten appear as spiritual qualities because we are trying to come closer to the Creator as a spiritual unit so the creator for the Ten is necessarily spiritual?

R. Yes

3. S. When the friend is truly demanding to fulfill something and she says that the creator is envious, is it spiritual as?

R. I can't say your question is too obscure for me to answer?

32. S. (34:34) Can we make a common jealousy in a Ten in order to come closer to the Creator?

R. Of course, talk about it and develop this quality.

33. S. (34:55) Spiritual envy is that revealed before or after you start to feel the Creator?

R. Before.

34. S. (35:11) In the excerpt it says that love and jealousy are qualities of the left side. The question is how to study in a correct manner because you said so beforehand that you need to check yourself and jealousy is this feeling that devours everything that just swallows everything that is as harsh as the Netherland as it says in the Zohar. We are trying to run away from it in all sorts of forms to feel the love not in order to fill this netherworld. I would like to learn how to check myself in order to end this in order to grow in a spiritual way. This quality will advance me.

R.To do so that eventually jealousy will advance me and I will judge myself and according to that I will advance myself towards the Creator.

S. How like that?

R. In the left line.

S.What does it mean to work in the left line?

R. It means to criticize myself.

35. S. (36:54) What is this jealousy that we have between us?

R. Yes also that, we need to understand that love and jealousy or hate, lust and honor are all general feelings that are aiming us in order to reach adhesion with the Creator.

36. S. (37:46) After the end of correction we will all come back to the Creator as one and then we won't have any more reason to be jealous?

R. That's how I think it will be.

37. S. (38:00) How can we awaken in the will to receive jealousy so the will to receive would accept it?

R. Of course it is possible. I am looking at him and I see that he can give and I'm not able then I have jealousy for the giving for the bestowal.

38. S. (38:51) It sounds from the excerpt that I need to want that the Creator will love only me if I am jealous towards Him. I thought that I am meant to bring my friends closer to the Creator more than myself, so what is the correct jealousy.

R. Use jealousy in every option every way use it and you will see for yourself how much it is good or bad and in which way you can use it. Is it clear?

39. S. (39:30) In English there are two words for jealousy. Is it the same thing for the spiritual manner: is it jealousy or envy?

R. Jealousy.

40. S. (39:42) In the excerpt it says that you should be envious of your wife. Do we need to connect our desires with the intention to bring contentment to the Creator?

R. In essence yes.

S.So this is spiritual jealousy, the desire to connect all the desires in the intention?

R. Spiritual desire is to connect all the desires. Spiritual jealousy is to connect all the desires with the Creator.

41. S. (40:35) When you are praising someone from the world Kli do you want to make us jealous of him, spiritual jealousy?

Yes, especially women.

Reading Item 12, twice. (40:57) “The righteous in that world have several sections..”

42. R. (44:05) That means we need to try and see how much from the Creator this force comes out and it comes to us through all the degrees and awakens in us the relation of love that we will raise that same force back to the Creator as MAN and MAD that is it it and then we will complete the whole of creation.

Reading Item 13. (44:65) “See how the Creator leads all the people..”

43. S. (46:26) Face-to-face is that love?

R. Yes. Face-to-face is true love.

S. This state of poor and judgment comes to a person at the same time all that?

R. No, that comes to a person when the person needs it. The Creator chooses the timing.

S. From here we can only understand that the grace is coming only if you have ascended in love above reason.

R. Yes, well done.

S. And that's a sign that the Creator will keep you and save you.

R. Yes.

44. S. (47:28) We try to move forward as a whole and to be one heart, however the feeling of jealousy seems to cause us to feel more individual like individualists and a new separation. How to use jealousy without falling into a trap of individuality?

R. If you continue like that you will get nothing. You need to sit together and think truly with a lot of effort, how do we overcome the jealousy? That the jealousy itself is showing us how much we are not corrected yet. So let us correct ourselves and we will say thank you to the Creator who sends us jealousy; otherwise, we wouldn't have known what we are lacking in order to come closer to correction.

45. S. (48:46) Does jealousy have a place in for her sake and if it does how does that come to the ten?

R. Yes, there is the measure of jealousy for her sake. If I come to for her sake then the jealousy itself brings me closer to for her sake.

46. S. (49:28) Envy is a state of fear of not being able to be part of love. How can we take advantage of it for maximum progress?

R. In balancing between jealousy and love, you cannot have one without the other.

47. S. (50:24) It is written that if the person loves the Creator, sorry if the Creator loves the person and he sent him a gift the poor. Is the gift the poor?

R. Yes.

48. S. (50:45) It is written you have loved the Lord your God. Do we have to love him as only when he is hidden?

R. No. In all the incidents in every incident in every case.

49. S. (51:20) Envy and jealousy are two words that describe jealousy in Hebrew. How to interpret it correctly. Should we use this term or the other that they are both jealousy in Hebrew?

R. You should see according to the text and not according to one word.

50. S. (52:04) How can we be in gratitude for the gift of the poor?

R. When we have the chance, you can give me a gift, like a bottle of whisky.

S. We can create some sort of a deficiency in the ten in order to receive such a gift.

R. I don't need anything from you besides your success.

S.Thank you we will try very hard.

51. S. (52:49) When I see a good example from the friends that they participate together that they are together in the lesson that is some sort of form of jealousy right?

R. Yes.

S. Somehow it doesn't appear as jealousy because of the example I want to be the same. I want to be in the meeting, in the lesson to be present and it is some sort of fear not to be like them?

R. Yes.

52. S. (53:39) It says here that the time the Creator loves the person He sends him the gift. What is the gift? Poor, in order for him to be rewarded by it. How can we explain that the gift is the poor?

R. I don't know how to explain it to you.

53. S. (54:05) What is the ideal ten that we should be envious or jealous of?

R. The ideal ten that we should be jealous of? That is Rabbi Shimon’s ten. I don't know what to say. We also have relatively good tens, relatively speaking to our state, to our heart. There are very good tens that I myself am jealous that I am not in.

S. What is there in these ten?

R. Connection, connection.

54. S. (54:59) It says that if the Creator loves a person he sent him a gift. Why not the Creator loves everyone? What is the special love of the Creator?

R. If he wants to bring to him a person in a special way, then he sends him a gift. How is it called? Something against him that the person would find it very hard to advance with it, but if he finds in a correct manner that everything that he gets is in order to be advancing towards the Creator and that everything is for his own good, then he will be using it to advance towards the Creator and he will truly see behind it the help of the Creator, the love of the Creator.

55. S. (56:50) Does BB have one ten that the Creator is revealed in them, that they are so connected that the Creator is in them?

R. There are a few tens but I won't tell you which ones, I will not tell you. Be envious of all of them, be jealous of all of them.

56. S. (56:53) What does it mean that the Creator wants? Does he select someone?

R. Selects of course, chooses of course, chooses envious or jealous he arranges us this way or the other, of course.

S. That means that is not a system that works on each one in an equal or equivalent way?

R. It's a system, yes but it doesn't work in an equivalent way on each one of us. It turns towards special tens and special people.

57. S. (57:41) In our group we have very important friends that receive such gifts from left and right and we claim that they are gifts from the Creator and we come to it that we are jealous of Him. Why do they receive and I am not? On the other hand, we have feelings like why is he being lazy, why is he not putting enough effort. You say that we need to balance each jealousy. What does it mean to balance each jealousy through love?

R. That if in a person, if a person has a really big jealousy he needs to develop love. Meaning there is from a person to a person if somebody reveals jealousy, discovers jealousy and according to the extent that he shows jealousy, you need to show him love.

58. S. (68:46) Do I have to be jealous of a friend in whom I see my uncorrected qualities?

R. Yes, yes.

59. S. (59:34) Does the Creator differentiate in his love towards the created beings in such a way that he loves one more than the other and this is how jealousy is created?

R. Could be. Could be of course. He does not love each and everyone in the same measure. It is according to the first and the last point that the person has to go through, the path that the person has to go through. It depends on all sorts of sections the person needs to go through and it is according to some very, very complicated equation; therefore, the Creator does not and cannot relate to each one in the same way.

S. How can we be more worthy to the Creator?

R. Come close to him. That's what the entire wisdom is talking about. How can we come closer to the Creator and show him our love?

60. S. (01:00:59) What is the importance of summarizing the lesson and how important is it to summarize the lesson in a short manner?

R. That you are going over the lesson to see what you have attained through the lesson and what questions do you have and it is all very important.

61. S. (01:01:50) The question is about acting in good relationships in the ten. Can we say that acting this is basically saying that people do not want to come close to each other and change? Or that they don't look for something to change for?

R. Try to change the relationship all the time to see how it improves and even if they don't get improved you still understand them more deeply.

S. That means we are going for a connection even if it threatens us to really drop us to our knees?

R. If it rattles the ten then maybe not. Try to do it in a way that you can still hold each other.

62. S. (01:02:52) I would like to know. Is it possible or is it reasonable for a student to be jealous of her teacher of his patience of his giving of his bestowing? It is constantly disturbing me. Is it reasonable and how do I acquire such a quality?

R. There isn't a person between you with less than me in patience. As a person I'm a very impatient person. I am a very bad person but if I know that by that I am correcting the world bringing you closer to the Creator then I have patience, then I have a desire to help and again to go over the questions and in such a manner advance together. Is that clear? All the best to you. I am hugging you until tomorrow with God's help until tomorrow, goodbye.
