Passover - Selected Excerpts from the Sources, #13
1. Rav’s Introduction: Today, we are entering the materials which we call “the exile of Egypt.” There is something very special, actually our whole corporeality exists under the rule of the will to receive and not considered under the rule of the Pharaoh. The difference between feeling we in this world and feeling ourselves in exile, is that in exile it is an exile from spirituality and then only a person who yearns for spiritually discovers that he is not in it, it’s not in him. Bit by bit he discovers that there are egoistic forces in him that are holding him, not allowing him to enter the spiritual qualities. This is how the person discovers himself. That he is truly under the rule of the Pharaoh, King of Egypt. It takes a long time for a person to begin to discern that his life is an egoistic desire and this is what is hindering him from being in bestowal, being close to the friends, close to the Creator, and being in bestowal towards everybody. in love and connection and in an embrace with everybody.
This takes a long time until the person starts to detect this ordinary life in this corporeal world and maybe he doesn't like it and he is not satisfied with his life. But there are many states in that. Until a person discovers that he is truly under the control of his ego and the ego is not allowed to perform acts of bestowal, to reach an embrace, and love others, to return to the state as it was before the breakage of the vessel of Adam HaRishon prior to the shattering. Accordingly, we measure the exile, and also the intensity of the exile, it is relative to each and every one. There are those who hardly feel that they are in exile from spirituality. Rather, they just feel bad through all kinds of things in this world, but it is entirely not considered as a feeling of exile, yet. Disconnect from spirituality. Spirituality means acts of bestowal, acts of connection, even love possibly. That is, it depends on the spiritual degrees we are talking about and if the person is not yearning for this, it is considered he is still outside of this, that he is in the exile of Egypt.
Therefore, we will now learn, what is called the exile of Egypt is precisely studying how to discover whether we are in Egypt or not. Whether we are even in exile yet or not. That is, exile from sanctity, exile from bestowal, exile from connection, and embrace, and love. You can ask questions. It is desirable that you feel what we are studying and check what state each one of us is in and awaken oneself towards all kinds of discernment we are studying, that we are going through because this greatly develops the soul. Even those who earlier did not feel what kinds of relevance or belonging they have for the will to receive, the will to bestow, connection, hatred, love, the Creator, the friends, it doesn’t matter. Now they can awaken themselves and start to see what state they are in, bit by bit and start to feel what world they live in and from that they can start to see there is another reality, a higher world, a higher state. How do we reach from this world to the higher upper world? This is actually our work, our goal. Let us go according to the excerpt we have, here, before us on the topic of exile in Egypt.

2. R. In order to bestow, what does Rabash write, here? What is exile? It is when he is under the rule of self-love. How does he know he is under the rule of self-love? He can not work for the sake of the Creator. Meaning he cannot perform acts of bestowal. As the Creator is doing for him, so he will do it for the Creator and of course, it has to be from this world through the created beings, through the friends. When is self-love considered exile? I am in self-love in this world, let’s say and I am aware of it, I admit it, that I am in self-love, that I only love myself, I don't care about anything else, what’s happening to others around me. I am only concerned about myself. This is actually my nature and I do not feel, besides this, any other inclination towards anything else and I don't call this exile. When is self-love considered exile since everybody is born in self-love the still, vegetative, animate, and people? He (Rabash) says it is only when he wants to emerge from this control -- from self-love -- that one feels how much it is locking him in, that it is truly conquering him. When does that happen?
When some illumination from above already shines on him, an upper light then one begins to get this feeling he exists only in self-concern, only for himself and this is the opposite of anything spiritual, from how he needs to be. Where does this come from? It comes specifically because the reforming light shines a little bit when he already has some relation to spirituality. When light already shines from above and seemingly draws him, pulls him and according to this attraction that he feels, upwards, the state he’s in down in this world, constantly thinking about himself. Then one starts to feel that he is under the control of his will to receive only for himself and this he already calls exile. Exile from spirituality, from bestowal, from connection. That is, only when he wants to emerge from this control because he suffers from not being able to be in connection with the others, in love of others, in adhesion with the Creator, from not being able to do anything to the sake of the Creator. That is, to bestow to the Creator, somehow. To reach bestowal according to that, the exile is measured. That is, the exile is measured only according to one’s inclination. If he wants to rise above his nature then he feels that he is in his nature, which is this exile, and according to how much he wants it, accordingly he can measure the depth and length of the exile.

3. R. A person comprises a will to receive for himself, and possibly not only for himself but also for others. This develops in the person gradually. Accordingly, to the extent that these two inclinations exist in him and they are fighting within him, accordingly he starts to feel how much he wants to rise above his will to receive and to reach the will to bestow. So, he (Rabash) says (Rav reads) “he should know that the exile he feels, that he is in exile.” How is that? It is measured not by the exile itself, but by the sensation of bad and suffering that he suffers because he is in exile.” That is, I cannot say that I am in exile. According to what are you saying this? Well, I think this or that. No, it’s not about thinking. It is according to the sensation. The feeling of suffering. That I am in the will to receive and I only think about myself and not about the friends, and not about the Creator. So then according to this feeling that I only think about myself, this is considered that I feel the exile. That I very much want to rise above thinking and being concerned only about myself, also to care about others, and also to get out of myself. But I’m not capable of this. This is for me the feeling of exile. (Rav reading) “Then when he’s tormented because he's under the rule of the oppressors, that is, these forces that compel him to only think about himself. He must do all that they demand of him, and he has no right to do what he wants but he must serve and carry out all that the nations of the world in his body, that is, his egoistic desires that exist in his body, demand of him. He is a powerless to betray them, to resist them, not to think of himself but rather to think of others. To the extent of the pain, he feels how much he is suffering, that he feels in his desire to escape them because they compel him to think about himself -- to that extent he can enjoy the redemption.” That is, as much as one suffers in the exile, he then enjoys redemption, the exodus from the exile.
4. S. (15:19) This feeling of suffering is felt inside the will to receive or relative to the greatness of bestowal?
R. Well, in the meantime the person cannot yet determine this. But he feels that he cannot reach love of others, love of the Creator, to bestow, to connect with others. That is, that the person cannot reach the values of spirituality, the spiritual values and the fact that he is not in them, but he wants to reach them, this gives the feeling of exile.
S. How to come to the feeling that we are truly tormented like you were tormented before in your will to receive but now inside that place where there is no love?
R. This is only through actions in the group actions that we try to perform and through this we draw the reforming light. All the actions that are a little bit in the group they already awaken the reforming light even though our actions are not yet spiritual, they're in order to receive for our own benefit because we want it for ourselves, etc., etc. They are nevertheless not actions like in this world but rather towards connection, towards mutual bestowal, then they awaken the upper light but for the time being, from afar, it is called the reforming light. It works on us and starts to change us.
5. S. (17:41) How to wake up the feeling of exile in the 10?
R. The feeling of the exile in the 10 we can each, we want it but on the condition that I don't want the exile I want to come out of it, I want to rise to connection to love to bestowal and then according to that we can feel that I am in the opposite quality and this gives me the feeling of being in exile. I am not chasing after discovering the exile, my inclination different, my inclination is to connect so much so that I am willing to discover within us the force of bestowal, love which we call the Creator and then feel myself that I exist in the upper world which is all good entirely it in bestowal. According to how I try but I cannot feel the exile from that act of bestowal I wish to implement, it’s not the feeling that I begin to get just like that. It is a feeling that comes from the inclination to act in connection and according to that I can feel that I am not in it and brings me sorrow and this feeling is called the feeling of exile from spirituality from bestowal from love from connection.

7. S. (20:01) Do we need to pray to a certain state?
R. We want to connect with the act of bestowal where we can give to the Creator and reach an identification with the Creator's state. I do not know what is waiting for me in the middle, my goal is to reach connection with the friends and from that I want to reach connection with the Creator. Actually, the connection is the goal with the Creator, and this is what I have to think about this is what I need to crave for and later on the way scrutinize more and more the details of what I have to do to reach that.
8. S. (21:55) When do we feel there is exiled to come back to the center of the 10?
R. Specifically from this feeling of exile is what pushes us to feel the center of the ten where we have to be connected all together and we can discover our connection with the, the feeling of exile pushes us to be together like a ship which feels that there are wolves around and then they all come together.

R. Why is the question from the intellect that I feel in the emotions so correctly combing the intellect and the emotion gives us the right vessel for us to discover what we go through, to establish it correctly and then we can come out of this exactly and to establish this vessel, immediately feel the upper spiritual world, we start to feel reality, the forces operating behind this world. The Creator is arranging everything so we are starting to come close to Him but before that whatever we might say there is 400 years which is the 4 degrees of the amplification of the desire to receive and we have to know how to arrange it correctly.
Without perceiving it, absorbing it, we cannot come out of it, we have to receive it to arrange it, to detect it correctly and what is it that we gain through it. It is a lot of work and the work is in toiling and hard work with the desire to receive as it is unpleasant work. We want to come out, but they don't let us and we constantly discover how weak we are, how much we really don't want it, what do we need it for. Many people in such states want to run away, actually everyone wants to run away, the question is how much the group is holding the person in the right environment and how much the person can realize that there is no other choice that he constantly persuades himself that this is the right order, the right framework which is holding him even though he is jumping up and down, he tries to run in all directions.
10. S. (28:29) Is there a state when we feel under the control of the ego and we do not want to come out if? What to do in such a state?
R. Yes, there is such a state where I feel the ego rules over me, but I do not feel this rule as evil so that I would want to escape. I would start to perform certain sharp actions to run away from it, there are all kinds of states, it could be that I have no power, I am weak, it could be that I do not feel the rule of the ego as terrible so I can remain in it. I am suffering, ok so we suffer in this physical life anyway, but we carry on, what can we do that’s life. I look at others and as it says, “The trouble of many is half of the consolation.” It is very important to show each other that it is possible to rise, it is possible to escape the ego and in such a way that we can wake up each other as they say, “Each helps his friends.”
11. S. (30;18) How can we increase the deficiency towards bestowal, we need the help of the Creator?
R. As much as you connect between each other, you will be able to bestow to each other and give the Creator an opportunity to give through the whole group, each and every one, and you will see how much this promotes you. Nothing promotes you more towards going through the exile and coming out of, in order to receive, the exile from Egypt, and intensity of connection between you.
12. S. (31:15) How to find the strength to come out of Egypt together?
R. This happens not in that we find strength; we perform the actions that the Sages recommend and we by this we wake up the upper force called the reforming light and this light connects between us and brings us out of the separation called Egypt to connection. Which will be already outside of Egypt spirituality, the connection in the physical life is disconnection, this is done by the reforming light. We need to awaken this light on us by one thing, to connect, even if we don't really want it, but as if we want to connect. We perform this game and by this way draw the light on us. We have to try like children who are always trying, wanting, always doing something in order to achieve what is desired and by this we awaken the light.
13. S. (33:33) We discussed in the 10 about the exile, if there is a personal feeling of this exile and what is the difference between the personal feeling and the collective feeling of the 10?
R. In truth there should be a group feeling. You will not be able to reach the correct intensity in our times, in the last generation. You will not be able to reach the right intensity by yourself, only by each helping his friend when we push each other to connection, and you see you are not capable and we cry out together to the Creator and then the Creator connects you and the connection between you is called the exodus from Egypt.
14. S. (34:45) Are we in exile already when we think about it or is this before the exile?
R. Prior to the exile the only thing we think about is ourselves, but we think that we can get out of Egypt not through the connection between us and not towards the connection between us, but each and everybody can rise above his own state to a better state. A better state imagines to oneself that the more advanced spiritual state is a step towards connecting the broken vessels to some extent into a single desire, because we all come from the shattering of the soul of Adam HaRishon and the person cannot imagine this, rather he thinks it is personal, individual. Now I feel this in a different way, this will be spirituality and will be the connection. Indeed, it is a big problem.
15. S. (36:14) What does it mean that general suffering is half the comfort?
R. If I feel the suffering of the many of the public that I already connected to them to a certain extent and I feel that they are suffering, even though I do not come out of the exile, but I feel already that there is a broken vessel, this is already on the way to exit from Egypt to come out of the exile.

16. S. (39:29) We always say that you don't have to search for evil, but it is necessary for the assent. So how do we settle this clash?
R. We need to yearn for the good and if you are yearning for the correct good, you will discover the bad, what you need to connect more and more is to reach the good, and the good is what you are searching for.
S. So I use the bad as fuel?
R. You do not use the evil, you are yearning for the good, for connection, for love, this is what you are craving for, and the fact that instead of that you'll discover all kinds of failures and problems, that you don't feel good, this is called exile from the good.
S. Then I use the torment as fuel, the suffering as fuel?
R. The suffering that I cause means that I cannot be in bestowal.
S. I use that for the good.
R. The suffering cannot be used as fuel ever. The suffering can push me towards all kinds of suffering, we should always yearn for the good. Listen and remember it. From the evil you can never advance, we can never use suffering as fuel!
17. S. (41:16) It is not clear that we just borrow the vessels because we are building in Egypt this huge vessel. I have to receive an intensification in the connection helps it so what does it mean that we just borrow and later on we return these vessels of the Egyptians?
R. We all need a great desire to receive but we do not use the desire to receive itself but we just wants to pull on top of it the reforming light and the use it as a foundation to work above it in order to give this is why it is considered that we take the vessels from the Egyptians by borrowing those vessels this is how we call it the desire to receive itself if we do not use but it exist as the foundation of all the spiritual actions as the foundation.
S. What does it mean that we returned them, do we need them concerned constantly?
R. After we get the intention in order to bestow, which is called faith above reason, in that we live and in that we operate in spirituality and the will to receive itself. We don't need to use it. There is always a need for it. The shells all of the desires everything that we receive itself we do not need to use but it remains. Nothing that the Creator created disappears, nothing is redundant, there is always a need for everything, the shells, the evil, Kedusha, the desires in it all of them, all the desires, all the vessels, everything the Creator created is purposeful.
18. S. (43:33) If I correctly understood the entrance into exile when I have some level of suffering that I am disconnected from the others and it is not clear what inside this exactly when we are in the 7 years of satiation, where is this 7 year of satiation?
R. When you connect to the friends and it feels good for the desire to receive, like you can have meals meetings with them you speak, you enjoy the brotherhood you enjoy the connection it is not so purposeful yet but it is popular, ordinary kind like in this world, without this it is impossible to progress, but later on we truly start to work in the group, to arrange in a way that it should be the vessel for the attainment of the Creator, for the attainment to give to the Creator. Then starts the 7 years of hunger when we are unable to do this, we're not able because we are not in the force of bestowal, you do not have that force, we are still in Egypt and only if we rise above the force of the reception to the force of bestowal. Then we will be able to come out of the connection between us to give to the Creator, to discover Him and this is considered that we are coming closer to the Exodus from Egypt in the 7 years of hunger. It is not the hunger, famine that we do not have physical things, it is hunger because we do not have the attainment of the spiritual things. The physical things exist but not the spiritual things, this is what we miss, this is what is called hunger, there was hunger in the land of Egypt, and later on when they complain, when they cry out in the desert, where is that fulfilment what we had in Egypt when they're thinking about the egoistic fulfillment they had, before we left for Egypt, crying before the Exodus how come we don't have spiritual fulfilment. Later on, they cry out because they don't have physical fulfilment, we have to constantly be thinking about it, process it more and more and by this we wake up the reforming light, which is truly very big, important and powerful and very greatly need that light.
19. S. (46:37) From one year to the next we go through the materials about entry and exit to Egypt and the Exodus and there is a feeling that it is a very special time, a very unique time and the question is what should be the focus on in the work in the 10 in this specific time to use it the best way?
R. We are talking about it all the time, we have to come to such a connection that we feel that we really want to connect but there is some force which prevents us, which is our ego in us, and then it is possible to care for it by some external force, which we call the Creator or the reforming light, which we cry out to and then from those cries that we crave to receive this chance to connect between us, we come to a state, when we come to the initial connection and when it happens for the first time, it is called the exit from Egypt when we rise above the ego.
20. S. (48:11) How many times does this will or number of returns, entering and exiting Egypt in a y ear? Is there a fixed number in this action?
R. There is no such a thing as a permanent cycle, 400 years is considered a complete measure we have to go through, we have to recognize our ego in every way, but we know it only to the extent that we want to rise above this ego otherwise we do not know, people are inside the desire to receive and they don't even define it as the desire to receive or something selfish, and if they do define it then they say that it is nature, what do you want from me? This is what they say, however we need as much as possible to connect between us first of all, this is not just to rise above the ego it is to connect despite the natural rejection from each other. Then we can come to the cry as we are unable to do this, to such a need that he has to cry out for help, that we must be connected otherwise we can't bestow to the Creator, we won't be able to come close to the Creator, we won’t be able to feel Him we remain disconnected from the Creator and then we cry out and this cry is what rises us above the ego, and then we begin the spiritual degrees. 21. S. (51:01) What is the holy soul on which the exile depends on?
R. The holy soul is a special light from above coming from the degree of a Bina, Neshama is Bina and it operates on us and gives us the first connection between us, the first spiritual connection between us, in which we can sustain this connection between us and hold this illumination between us in a way that we can advance beyond Egypt, beyond our ego. We are trying more and more, it is all, don't connect it to geography history of all kinds of similar things, only the egoistic desire to receive is what we have to rise above, we have to make efforts and ask the Creator as it is written, “And the people of Israel sighed from work and their cry rose up to heaven.” Only from this cry we receive the reforming light and then come to a connection between us to the extent that we feel this first spiritual degree.
22. S. (52:40) What is the ego ruling over our effort for connection, because we feel suffering in many things.
R. We are not talking about corporeal suffering, we are only talking about suffering that we want to connect and feel that the spiritual state That we are in. we cannot connect you are still inside the intensity or the connection between that's what we're trying for. That's what we're asking for. is the connection that we feel between us and we rise above Egypt.
S. The ego rules the request as well to the extent we cannot connect?
R. The ego does not control the request, but it bothers the ego, it is the disturbance, the ego is help against one, meaning the way it bothers us, we have to see how by this it actually helps us, and through this ego, the disturbance of the ego aims us correctly, where it is ok and where it is not yet. As much as we operate with the selfish ego in a correct partnership, we can start to see that it is help against us, it moves in such a way that we can exit Egypt. It is considered Pharaoh himself opens the door to the Exodus from Egypt. The ego operates in a very good and correct way, it shows us where we are not ok, what we need to do, here we ask, where to run and so on. There is mutual work with our ego, and the ego is the force of the Creator, from these two things the left and right, operates us, controls us. Therefore, if we do not just hate the ego and relate to it perfectly, then we do not relate to it as evil but know how to work with it, then it becomes help again.
S. What does it require to understand the difference between hating the ego or working with it?
R. We need the will to receive only to build upon the desire to bestow and act of bestowal understanding of how this certain craft, acquiring the craftsmanship, in how to achieve this work with the ego properly.
23. S. (56:17) Can you help us scrutinize what it says in the text that we have to acquire the vessels of the Egyptians, borrowing them and returning them?
R. We need the desire to receive only to build on top of it the act of bestowal, the intention of giving, to resemble the Creator. Therefore, the desire to receive itself we do not use but only to build above it the act of bestowal, it is, considered to build the act to bestow and the desire to receive, we seemingly give back to the Egyptians.
24. S. (57:09) How will we be able to understand we are in the exile and intensify the need to come out?
R. In our inclination to connection the more we understand we need to reach the revelation of the Creator and we see this is only possible only in the connection between us, we start to see that we are not capable to come to this connection and then the connection appears as a good and desired thing because we can discover the Creator in it. Outside of the connection we see it as evil which is exile from spirituality from the feeling of the Creator and then we cry out, feeling that we need to exit the ego and we have to come to connection. This is all, this is how we need to operate accordingly we define all the states we go through, outside of the connection, as this world, the tendency of connection which we cannot get yet but what we want to reach. It is called the exile from connection, exile from spirituality, and when we are capable of connecting this is called the exit from Egypt towards the connection. Then according to the degrees of connection between us we attain the internal force, the upper force, the Creator which is revealed in the connection between us until we reach a complete connection between all the parts of Adam and the upper light fills all reality, all together. This is not a problem, not so complicated, the problem is in the details which we haven't yet been able to understand, because they are not yet in us, but we will grasp this, we will receive this, you are actually advancing very well.
25. S. () How should we reach a common request, we go through so many different states so different where one might feel they are in exile and one might feel nothing, how do we synchronize all of these feelings?
R. We need to understand that the Creator made us each and every role, therefore none of us is in a will to receive by chance or by one’s attributes and so forth, it's only what is the final need, for its goal, it is destiny. That's why we need to understand these friends that I have are not by chance and something I can replace them with someone else when I have, I need to receive and accept the moment I received them the Creator arranges between us all sorts of relations, qualities and final clearly vision and arrange is all kinds of states so we'll come closer in those states. Therefore I never critique any people who are next to me you won't help there is an upper force here that arranges these things and also my desires to do this and that and changes seemingly in the group I will need to do this and the Creator will give me such a feeling of understanding and maybe I'll do it but actually he does not come to that usually he changes are qualities in a 10 and that's how we come to correction.
26. S. What is the difference between the Jews being 20 years, 40 years in the desert, what years did ...?
R. I don't know yet 400 is the number according to the 40° Aleph, Bet, Gimel, and Dalet nothing NRNHY ....

R.

R. Only when you're able to explain a nice easy way that you're in exile an opportunity to exit this exile is to feel the internal, whole spiritual endless world and be able to explain it in the nice and easy way but we need still ourselves to understand to feel what we're talking about the ability to compose and easy and approachable explanation it will be soon will work on this together.
31. S. (1:09:21) How to correctly combine the mind and the emotion in order to promote us towards the exit from the self?
R. You have to sharpen the mind and the feelings and use them in the connection with a 10, such that it'll be the group feeling an intellect, try to build that.
S. There is a huge incorporation in the Kli... about the lights of Passover, Pesach and that these lights should promote us and develop a feeling of happiness that should be given to us during the time in order to make it more tangible for us during this exile?
R. Yes, of course, so we should feel this in the exile, the period of Passover is not a festive, nice, happy holiday kind of period, If we go through it spiritually, it's a very difficult time, there are blows, there's plagues we can't exit there, which are running away from Egypt, unless we feel the blows and this is how we feel in this great despair and we have to remain and not leave there's that a fear and pressure and this is towards the exit from Egypt it all accumulates together until we exit, but we'll go through it together slowly, slowly or get closer and closer to it and you will see how it's not too bad it's all ahead of us.
32. S. (01:11:53) Seems like we're going back to Egypt?
R.
