Rosh Hashanah, Excerpt 28:

Reading: (00:45) We ask of the Creator and make a sign on Rosh Hashanah saying, may we be the head and not the tail, meaning that the Israel in us will be the head and the wicked be the tail.

And then we will be rewarded with long lives and the goodness in the intention of creation, which is to do good to His creations.

Re-Reading Excerpt 28: (01:30) Rosh Hashanah

M. Laitman: That is what we need to understand and include within us and to constantly demand. This is the most important point in receiving in the next year, the new year.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (03:02) Why do we need to want the wicked to be the tail? Why do we even want there to be the wicked?

M. Laitman: We can't give up a part of creation.

Student: And how do we make him the tail?

M. Laitman: That's the question. That's already different. We have a choice what to do with those desires, thoughts, intentions, actions that we're compelled to do, and that we can give a good sign, a high sign, a good successful sign, or vice versa. But we cannot touch it, as if it doesn't belong to us. We must examine all the desires, thoughts, expectations of ours to the extent in which each and every one of them follows that path, the trail in which the Creator is higher than us, above us, governing us, and that we will be under His hands, and this is how we should continue.

Student: How do we make it so that the Creator is always above us?

M. Laitman: That's already our work between us, as to the extent that we succeed in raising the upper force above us, to the extent in which we unite together between us in order to sustain him above us. This is how it will happen.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (05:40) You said once, I don't remember if this is something you heard from Rabash, or that Rabash said, which you remembered from Baal HaSulam. It's a story about one of the students sighing, as though he's tired, and Baal HaSulam told him that this is expressly forbidden. Why? By doing that, does he incriminate the Creator?

M. Laitman: As if he's tired from the Creator's work, as if he agrees with it being that there's no choice here. He doesn't accept it willingly, but against his will.

Student: So, this is a kind of expression that must not happen in the society, is it forbidden?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, what does it mean, externally, to place Israel always ahead? Not internally, but in the outward attitude towards the friends?

M. Laitman: It's a longing for connection, to see a direct relation between us to the Creator, and the Creator to us, and this is how we hold ourselves, always above, with our head up.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (07:13) Is the work of placing the Creator above one's head the individual work of the person, or can I help my friends in the Ten to hold on to that? Is that a better way of thinking about it to help others succeed?

M. Laitman: No. Each and every one of us needs to see his goal in the work, that he raises the Creator above everything.

Student: So, where is the work in the Ten? Then what happens in them, in us?

M. Laitman: That's how each and every one needs to depict it to himself.

Student: And then, where is the point of connection that's formed between us, or should we not look for that?

M. Laitman: Of course, the point of connection between us needs to be, but it's built from that state that we want to be connected to one another, and that the Creator shall be above us. This needs to be daily work, and we cannot let go of it.

(Women Petah Tikva Center): (08:42) So, accordingly, the condition for me to reach the point of connection with the Ten is for me to place the Creator above my head?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, I don't enter the Ten without it, in order to gain that, but rather this is what I bring with me to the Ten? It's a new degree, compared to everything we've done so far.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (09:18) How is it possible to subdue the wicked, for once and all? We see it's very difficult.

M. Laitman: We cannot, because for every step along the way, you must decide where you are, and where He is, and what's the relations between you.

Student: How is it possible for the Israel in us to be more in charge?

M. Laitman: Through the multitude of your actions, specifically in that direction.

Student: And how does it work in the Ten? How do we do it together, in the Ten, or in general here?

M. Laitman: We all know in the Ten that this is the purpose of our correction, for the Creator to be above everyone, and all of us supporting Him from below.

Student: Does the Rav think that we can place Israel above us, and for it to be like that permanently?

M. Laitman: We must. We must have it happen that way.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (10:55) What is that symbol that we make, the mark we make on Rosh Hashanah?

M. Laitman: What's a good sign?

Student: There was a sign with the head of the fish to be a head and not a tail.

M. Laitman: Oh, yes. Okay.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (11:31) If I place the Creator above my head, then automatically I decrease, diminish the wicked one, my ego?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Excerpt 29:

Reading: (11:57) It is written: Be a tail to the lions, and do not be a head to the foxes. When the body comes with the who and what questions, do not answer it with the head, meaning with the intellect and within reason. Rather, “Be a tail to the lions.” A lion is the quality of Hesed, mercy, since in the upper Merkava there are a lion and an ox, which are Hesed and Gevura, and a vulture, which is the quality of Tifferet. He says, ‘…to the foxes,’ because the questions they ask aren't the intellect, and a fox is considered clever. This is why they are called foxes. And a person should reply, I do not reply to you with the intellect, meaning with the mind. Rather, I am following the lions as a tail follows the head. As for me, I have no head, but I am following the quality of Hesed, which is covered Hassidim. Meaning, even though he does not see that they are Hassadim, meaning that it is concealed from him, he still believes above reason that they are Hassadim.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (13:58) In the previous excerpt, he talked about how you need to be Israel, the head. But here he says, no, not the head and tail, rather he talks about Hassidim. There is a bit of confusion.

M. Laitman: No, no, it is not confusion, because to be a tail to the lions and a head to the foxes is precisely what gives us that approach, that quality, by which we come to the goal.

Student: So, this means this is the quality of Hesed?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (15:16) Previously we said to be a head and not a tail, but it is better to be a tail to Israel, even if I am the very last one, but for Israel, rather than feeling like a head to everything that is bad about me? Is that the intention?

M. Laitman: Let's say that, yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (54:47) Should Hassidim always be covered?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And discovering them within reason?

M. Laitman: Together with Hochma.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (16:14) I understand rejecting the intellect, the foxes, but if one doesn't find Hassidim because they are concealed, how does he know what to follow?

M. Laitman: He asks. There are many states, incidents in which we don't know what's correct and it's done that way on purpose, so that we will ask the Creator to arrange the direction for us.

Student: So, one understands that he's rejecting the foxes, the intellect, but he doesn't understand which direction to go, and then he asks the Creator to show it to him, and he adheres to that.

M. Laitman: At least that, yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (17:15) Is it true in every state, even if I don't know how to relate to things exactly, to simply say that the Creator is the head, He is love, and in any given situation I need to try to relate to Him with love? For love to always be my compass.

M. Laitman: Yes, but nevertheless, what is wanted of us is not just for us to completely be zero, but rather for us to flow with the Creator, and to ask Him to flow with us, for Him to guide us.

Student: But how can I flow along with the Creator if I'm not, to some extent, aiming to be like Him?

M. Laitman: By canceling out that which you're not capable of doing with yourself. It's something we'll learn.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (18:30) Does working in Hassadim mean to stick less to my own lacks, and rather adhere to my friends' lacks?

M. Laitman: It can be.

Student: Can we scrutinize that a bit more, because in the morning you said we need to respect the lacks of the friends, and we talked about that, and also you guided us to annul ourselves. The feeling is, maybe you've always said this, and we always do it, but have done it, but this is a new field of work. Something in the effort of feeling the friends' lacks, for me still feels very on the corporeal plane. So, how can I go in and feel her inner lack? Give us some guidance.

M. Laitman: We will receive those discernments along the way.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (19:41) There was a question on how to make the wicked one the tail, and you said that we have a choice on what to do with those desires and thoughts and actions that we are compelled to take, that we can give them a mark, a sign, and so on. How do we use the powers of the wicked one, these negative forces, for them to serve the group and the Ten?

M. Laitman: Only through the effort, and behind the effort, in acquiring the new acquaintance with those qualities that we're in, and we need to arrange them such that we will ask from the Creator for Him to cause us to be in a certain deficiency.

Student: So, in effect, it's a force. It doesn't matter what we think about, what we want. It's a force which sometimes ignites within the person. So, where can he direct it so that it is in anyone's benefit, rather than just exploding in every which way? We have desires aimed towards the goal and connection, and we use those, right? And we have forces which we feel to be foreign, external. How do we use those as well? How can those be used to serve the group? How do we use the force of those desires and thoughts, their force, not them themselves?

M. Laitman: That's a question whether we attribute this force to a certain quality, a certain action, so that by it we will attain the desirable state.

Student: So, that's how we need to do it? How to do it?

M. Laitman: How? Through the action where we take those forces, desires, thoughts, and we connect it to the action, and then the action is carried out in a certain way.

Student: How can a person prepare himself ahead of time so as to be able to use these forces correctly, as you just explained?

M. Laitman: How can a person prepare himself in advance such that everything will happen the way he wants it? That's, as it's written, make your will like his will, meaning that a person discovers his desires, forces, and guides them in a certain direction.

Student: So, to begin with, he asks the Creator to help guide him? And he asks the Creator to help him as well?

M. Laitman: Yes, that's with certainty. That's according to the rule to make your desire like his. So, he makes his desire your desire.

Excerpt 30

Reading: (24:58) Be a tail to the lions means that he says, I am following the quality of Hesed, which is only to bestow. A person should say, that since he believes above reason that the Creator watches over the world with the quality of the good that does good, he therefore believes that although he sees concealment on providence, since according to a person's eyes it should have been otherwise, he still believes that the Creator wants that this way it will be better for man if he can accept everything with faith above reason. For by this, he will be able to emerge from self-love and work for the sake of the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:29) A person always tries to attribute everything to the Creator. So, what happens if it's above reason or below reason? I can attribute everything to the Creator. It all comes from the Creator. Many people say that.

M. Laitman: But the question is, how does he relate to you? How does he want to guide you?

Student: I'll tell you why. Recently I talked to a very religious person, and he attributes everything to the Creator. Everything. Everything we read here, all the intellectual things, he just rejects all of it. He has his commandments from the Torah and so on. So again, I have this question. What happens if it's above reason or below reason? If a person knows that he's rising above reason, that's what brings him to the goal and not him rejecting all intellectualism and everything he knows and understands and just... I don't know if it's real or not real.

M. Laitman: We can't examine one another altogether, and it's also not important to us to an extent. Each one cares how he can express the plan of creation in relation to himself. That's it.

Student: What does it mean to attribute the plan of creation to Him?

M. Laitman: That the main thing for me is that I am liked by the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (28:55) Within reason, I can identify that I feel it and I work the same way I worked all my life. What is above reason? Where does it clothe? How can I know that I'm walking in that direction?

M. Laitman: I don't know. It depends on how you define your desire. Within reason, above reason, below reason.

Student: Is there a way to measure?

M. Laitman: A person measures.

Student: According to what, though?

M. Laitman: According to the way he relates to his intentions, his attitude.

Student: Can I for example, go opposite to what's within reason. I can say that to myself.

But is that considered above reason?

M. Laitman: No.

Student: So, is there any definition? Anything I can check according to, scrutinize it by myself? Maybe I need to do this with the friends. How can I tell that I'm working in that direction, even?

M. Laitman: How can you check whether you're operating above reason or within reason, or even below reason? So, we need to try and discern. Let's say you perform a certain action, and you want that action to be above your reason. So, what do you do?

Student: That brings me back to the lesson from yesterday. We need the exaltedness of the Creator, the greatness of the Creator, first of all. That needs to be the engine. But this, too, I ask how can I measure? How can I tell that the greatness of the Creator isn't also within reason? Where is that area? If it's all enclosed within me and I draw that greatness, it's all also within reason. So, how do I make it so that it's not within reason? What are the conditions for that?

M. Laitman: What are the conditions to be above reason? Who can say?

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (32:38) Now, when the other student spoke, I thought about how the condition for checking myself is seeing that the greatness of the Creator goes through my friends, because feeling the greatness of the Creator within reason is easy, but feeling the greatness of the Creator through the friends, it's certainly above reason.

M. Laitman: Why?

Student: Because within reason, it's difficult to justify, but if I see the greatness of the Creator through what the Creator does with me through the friends, then certainly it's above my reason.

M. Laitman: Is there anyone who agrees with her?

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (33:30) I think that above reason is for the benefit of others and the Creator, and if my thoughts are in that direction, then I'm above myself, above my reason.

M. Laitman: Meaning, if I think positively about the group, the Ten, the friends, the Creator, then what we have in that is all above reason.

Student: Yes, I activate myself in the direction of bestowal.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (34:24) There needs to be some resistance, an inner effort, so as to know that I am above reason.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (34:45) Despite feeling this rejection always in our bodies, feeling that we could have planned everything differently, above all that, we feel joy because He gave us this state in which we can be connected to Him above our resistance. We can ask it of Him and be connected with Him and that brings joy.

M. Laitman: It's complicated.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (35:27) Maybe it's a state where we need the Creator greatly. When we need to go above reason, we really need the Creator's power. So, prayer is very important here.

M. Laitman: Yes, that's it.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (35:57) Is the quality of bestowing in order to bestow the quality of Israel? Can it be said that anyone can achieve this by the way of Torah? If Israel keeps the Torah fully as a means for His sake?

M. Laitman: Well, yes, in that direction. Yes, ma'am.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (36:32) This sentiment within me, the feelings I have for my Friend which are the same as the feelings I have for my children, is that the force of the Creator?

M. Laitman: I can't say. We're in the middle of the forces of the Creator.

Student: If I feel so.

M. Laitman: It doesn't mean anything that you feel, or you don't feel. Feeling is the falsest matter of all.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (37:09) I start my day, I'm all within reason, and I want to start it as a blank page. Then there's the lesson, there are discussions for the dissemination. Does this tell me that I will have opportunities to rise above reason? In the continuation of the conversation you had with another student, how do I identify that this is above my reason, that the reason of the Tan is above my reason? The words of the Rav in the lesson, above my reason? And then between this and that there are breaks, hours. And there I fall into my reason very powerfully. How in those pauses, those breaks between the Ten, the lessons, and the breaks between those pillars of my day, how do I hold on to above reason there? What is that?

M. Laitman: Apparently, above reason means that we want to rise to a degree where only the Creator determines. That's it, because with my own reason I'll always determine things according to my will.

Student: Exactly, that's why I have this desire to understand and to do according to His will. But how do I catch His desire? I don't understand Him.

M. Laitman: To pray. There's nothing else you can do here. We can't hold on, grab on more than that.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (40:43) You said that we have to flow with the Creator and to want Him to guide us. Could we say that the work above reason is the effort to constantly hold myself in this knowledge that the Creator governs everything?

M. Laitman: Yes, that's one of the conditions.

Student: So, as long as I'm in this internal work I'm above reason?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (41:24) In the past we learned the article about Moses who had difficulty in the birth of the moon, and God points to it and says to him: Here, like this, see it like that and sanctify it, this matter of being in complete concealment of Hassidim. And He says to him, see that and sanctify it, meaning you need to believe above reason that those lights are there and for you, and they were developed for you, and eventually these Hassidim will also be revealed. Is that possible?

M. Laitman: I don't know, but we will work and check together.

Student: But it's a state in the work that we should aspire towards, even to be in the intention towards it, to grasp and grip onto that state?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes. We will ask for it.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (42:33) I have a friend that feels the sensation of hatred and anger from everyone towards her. What would you recommend for her to do?

M. Laitman: What do I recommend for her to do? Does she have the power to hate them too?

Student: We need to ask the friend.

M. Laitman: So ask her. How does she have the power to receive such a measure of hatred from each and every one so as to be completely annulled? It needs to be something out of this world.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (43:46) Usually, the desire to receive wants it to be good for us. Can I ask myself, in place of what's good for me, what's correct for me in spirituality? Not to listen to my desire to receive, but rather through my being doubtful towards the goodness of the desire, to say, I am restricting. I don't want to hear you, I want to hear the Creator. Can you talk that way?

M. Laitman: Talk? Why not? Who forbids it?

Student: The question is if it's correct to do so.

M. Laitman: That you will see in the reply.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (44:45) In that feeling of above reason, is there pleasure?

M. Laitman: Why not?

Student: I'm certain it's a different pleasure than that which I know.

M. Laitman: Each and every pleasure feels different.

Student: The question that follows here is if we're above reason, do we still have desire to receive at that point?

M. Laitman: Above reason?

Student: Let's say when we scrutinize, how do we know that we're above reason? There too, there is the will to receive, or isn't there a will to receive?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: There is desire, because I want to know if I'm above reason. This connects to the part of the pleasure, meaning where is the difference here that I can feel to grasp it? Because there too I want, also there I'm in the reason that wants above reason.

M. Laitman: I'm listening.

Student: So that's it, I don't know what to do. I understand from Rav that we're opening something for scrutiny for a new degree that we don't know. So, maybe also I jumped straight to the pleasure, because the fear of the desire to receive is that we're going to lose it and jumped up. So, that's why I'm asking whether there is some point that in order to receive the rise to the degree that opens up now, thanks to Rav, to give up as that initial indication, to give up the need for the desire to receive, to constantly work on the desire to receive, and the pleasure in order to acquire some other pleasure. Even the pleasure of working before Rav. Rav is kind of like working with us now. That's the feeling I have right now in the lesson, that you're working with us, that you're giving us, letting us participate in this holy work. So that's a pleasure in and of itself, right?

M. Laitman: So, thank you very much.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (47:23) Is the feeling that I love the whole Ten without any differentiation between one and the other, is that one of the conditions of rising above reason?

M. Laitman: It could be, but just that feeling, that's insufficient.

Student: Then what else is needed?

M. Laitman: I don't know, but that doesn't determine if you rise above reason or not.

Student: How does love to the friends in the Ten connected to the faith above reason?

M. Laitman: I cannot say. I'm not certain about what you want to say.

Student: If I love my friends in a way which appears to me as above reason, then I'm truly above reason.

M. Laitman: No. That doesn't mean anything.

Student: And if I have resistance to something in the Ten and I rise above it, is that the way?

M. Laitman: It may be on the right path, but it's still not the end.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (49:16) You just said that the feeling is the falsest kind of thing. So how do we act? We're operating according to our feeling. We love, hate, we're angry. What is the correct scale or ruler to measure if it's not the feeling? What do we use as a measurement? How do we advance?

M. Laitman: That is something all of you need to solve, that question.

Student: Maybe a direction, guidance, some kind of direction? Because I know I go according to my heart. There's mind, there's heart, and I follow my heart. But from what I understood from you, the heart can lie. So according to which will I go?

M. Laitman: There's nothing to go according to other than the heart.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (50:27) What does it mean to only want for the heart to act?

M. Laitman: I want to be connected to the Creator and for Him to scrutinize and sort my questions, responses, actions.

Student: Is it the same as flowing with the Creator like you said before?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How do we differentiate whether the conditions that the Creator arranges or the backdrop of what's happening around us? Does the Creator like this more, or one should subjugate or do battle in this case? Let's say we want to perform a certain act of connection or study, and disturbances come right away when we start. Sometimes I feel that if I fight, I battle, I'm harming, and sometimes if I don't battle, then I feel as if I failed. So, how do I know if it will be more to the liking of the Creator if I battle or kind of surrender a little, wait, be quiet a little bit more, talk to Him a little bit before I battle here?

M. Laitman: To the extent that a person is willing to annul himself, he begins to feel his direction towards the Creator more—where the Creator is, in what place, in what direction.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (52:55) How do I work with hatred and anger not of this world that's being revealed in me.

M. Laitman: Not of this world? Interesting. How to work with hatred and anger which are not of this world that's being revealed in me. I don't know. I have nothing to say on this. I don't know if such a thing even exists, hatred and anger out of this world. Where does it come from then? Maybe it exists in her from corporeality, from outside of what the students are studying. I don't know what she means. Maybe at work? Let's let it go.

Student: Is above reason a state where we're already in mutual bestowal and love of friends? Or is it before that?

M. Laitman: No, it's before.

Student: So what tools, what vessels are we working with when we're in above reason?

M. Laitman: With the vessels which are above our reason.

Student: Are those vessels of bestowal already?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: With what intention?

M. Laitman: In order to bestow.

Student: So, what happens after above reason?

M. Laitman: What should happen?

Student: Do we move to work with vessels of reception in order to bestow, and then what's there above reason? Two times as much? What happens there?

M. Laitman: When we want to be in faith above reason and receive the power for that and correct our attitudes such that we are above our own reason, above anything we could imagine to ourselves, by ourselves. And now, we come to a desire which is entirely in order to bestow.

Student: So, do we achieve the reason of the Upper?

M. Laiman: Yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (55:53) What does it really mean to go according to the heart?

M. Laitman: What does it mean to go according to the heart, follow the heart? If you can answer all of your questions that come from the heart and scrutinize them, then ultimately you'll come to understand your heart.

Thank you. What should we do? A friend's question,yes.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (56:39) A friend feels that she wants to be included, incorporated in the Ten to such an extent that it distances her from the rest of the friends in the group. There's this feeling like alienation towards them, and she only wants to be in the Ten. What to do in such a state?

M. Laitman: She feels foreign in the Ten?

Student: No, on the contrary. She feels like she only wants to be in the Ten and not with other friends from other Tens.

M. Laitman: So what? There is such a period. It'll pass. It's not a sin and not a bad state.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (57:30) Is there a possibility of knowing when the heart is talking truth and when it's lying?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What are the signs?

M. Laitman: Go above reason.

Student: And if there's an action where it seems like I'm doing it above reason and then I see the reward or the Creator is strengthening, so it immediately enters into a certain feeling of joy and pride, and then there's nothing above reason?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, what do you do?

M. Laitman: I'll tell you this. What we lack, what we're missing is that we are very, very intellectual and it's better to cry, to scrutinize our attitudes, our leanings, our desires through crying. It really cleanses the heart. Try it. It's very, very beneficial.

Question (Women Petah Tikva Center): (59:24) What should we cry about?

M. Laitman: I don't know. For whatever it is that one of you thinks she wants very much and isn't receiving.

Student: Should we cry for ourselves?

M. Laitman: For ourselves, for the friends, it doesn't matter. Crying is very effective.

Student: What is crying?

M. Laitman: What is crying? I can't explain that to you. It's inclinations from the heart which aren't realized.

Student: That doesn't take place and doesn't get realized?

M. Laitman: Yes, they aren't realized.

Student: Is it something we need to ask for us to have?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: If we work as it was written, to raise the Creator to the head and all the bad to the tail. Is that will bring us closer to this crying, this need to be above reason?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And we need to actually try with every desire that comes to us to do that? To try?

M. Laitman: Yes. I'm not saying that you have to actually cry, but something of that has to take place,

Student: No, I'm asking if we try for every desire that comes to us to scrutinize what we're putting on the table and how we raise from this desire, the Creator to the head and operate from that point, that will advance us and grow or create a vessel of bestowal?

M. Laitman: Yes. All right, I'm sorry but an hour has gone by.
