Part 1: Recorded lesson – Oct 19, 2021- Continued. Baal HaSulam, Shamati #26. One’s Future Depends and Is Tied to Gratitude for the Past, #27. What Is "The Lord Is High and the Low Will See.”

Reader: Dear friends, in the first part of the lesson we will learn from a lesson of Rav Laitman from October 19, 2021, from articles of Shamati, #26, One’s Future Depends and Is Tied to Gratitude for the Past; and also, the following Shamati #27.

Question (PT 31): (00:34) What do we do in the case of making the work become an accustomed thing, a habit?

M. Laitman: That is like we read before, that the habit ruins everything. It dissolves the flavor; we stop feeling flavor. We have to be equipped with a lack; it is not like how, each and every day, we want to eat and we discover flavors in what we eat. That is just nature, if we wouldn't have that we would die. There is a system that is responsible for awakening that sensation of lack in our body. That is why the created beings are attracted to food, by which they sustain themselves, and that is how they also somewhat correct the will to receive in doing so. But in spirituality, we have to take care of that lack. Meaning, that we will have high spirits and the ability to influence others, and to absorb the lack from others, from the general vessel of all of Adam HaRishon. That is what we should think about: How to equip ourselves, each and every time, with the right lack. When we wake up in the morning, we have to see to what extent I want something or I don't want anything, thus, we will navigate ourselves to the right lack. There is no other work for us besides having the right lack – if we have the right lack, we will certainly do what is needed. The correct lack is what we need and that’s what we should pray for.

Question (Kiev 1): (03:25) On one hand, we are talking about needing to be lowly towards the Creator and on the other hand, we need to thank for the past. How does my gratitude for the past have to do with me feeling low?

M. Laitman: First of all, when I look backwards I see that I went through some path. That I have connected with the godly wisdom that explains to me how the world goes round, not in a corporeal fashion. Meaning, how the planets and the cosmos move around and not the human psychology in this world. We are talking about the hidden forces of nature that operate through all of the universe – still, vegetative, animate and speaking – in order to bring them through all their desires, regardless of their external manifestations that we discover through our eyes or other devices that are built for it. Rather, we are observing the desire that exists in each entity, and these desires are what we need to attract, all of them, into a single desire. This is called, Adam, that includes both the still, vegetative, animate, and human. Corporeal, spiritual, all the four levels of the will to receive so they’re all connected and directed towards the form of bestowal. Even though, to begin with, they are all in a complete shattering, meaning in an intention to receive. So, we are in these scrutinies and we have to see where our role is. We should see ourselves as being at the peak of all of these desires of the still, vegetative, animate and speaking. Even at the peak of the speaking degree where, there above everyone else, if we make the connection between us and the Creator. Then through us, as in a pyramid, we connect all of the other levels of reality to the Creator and that brings the world to a complete correction. Feeling that, understanding that, and somewhat doing that is our job. We should be proud that we have this role and even a little bit that we are trying to do this every day; in that, we fulfill the will of the Creator.

Student: Those parts are connected automatically in our work or does it need to be a special effort?

M. Laitman: We have to try to connect to all of humanity, at least somewhat, so they know about the purpose. And that they attain the purpose through us, and that together, we have to rise to the level of the upper force. That’s on one hand, and on the other hand, we will, anyway, discover and attain it and they will too, but that can happen through a path of suffering. The more we open this explanation to them about the purpose and the path to it, we attract them to the path of light, to the path of correction, the upper light. Otherwise, we will advance by a path of suffering as we already are, and as we know, only the suffering pushes humanity to make changes.

Question (Kyiv 1): (08:27) In other articles, we learned that spiritual advancement, as if every day we add – if we don't add every day, we don't move forward. So here, he talks about the fact that you have to rejoice for every opportunity to work, even for ourselves, even if it's only for oneself and somehow doing a Mitzvah [commandment]?

M. Laitman: This is completely, totally, one thing that supports the other. We have to try to do everything we can to move toward the goal, even on a corporeal level, in whatever states we are enabled to do. That’s it, there is no clash here.

Student: Is it a kind of break or something?

M. Laitman: No, no, no, it totally does not cancel each other out, no. We need to be drawn towards the final correction. I need to attract all of those that are behind me all the way to the very last levels of humanity and the levels of the still, vegetative, and animate, will also join through the collective influence that we humans will awaken in the system. There is no problem with that, no. Think about it some more and you will see that’s how it works.

Question (Europe): (10:08) About having the confidence where you can say that you are destined to do with me. Is this connected to having our foundation to be able to go in faith above reason?

M. Laitman: We have the basis to go in faith above reason according to this ability of going with faith above reason we became connected to our system of Bnei Baruch. If we didn't have this foundation, meaning that point that is connected to the general point in the heart, to the heart of the system, then we would not be here. The fact that there is in each and every one, here, a part of the central system of Adam HaRishon. Meaning that we need to be those who are drawn to and realize the connection of the system. After us, others will join, others who feel that yes it is worthwhile but they can't make that investment of time and strength and that is how it works. Those who are here are not here because they made the decision for themselves. But rather a desire awakens in these people and then they are drawn to the revelation of godliness, and that is us.

Student: With regards to ourselves, because what he describes in this last paragraph is a kind of ascent, like we feel the gratitude and elation. Should this be helpful for us to magnify this confidence when we are in the ascent?

M. Laitman: Of course, we need to be thankful for having this lack of wanting to get to know the essence of the world, the essence of life, the goal of reality. Where is it going and what it needs to achieve? We should be grateful for gradually recognizing more and more, what is the true reality and how we come to this reality, how we discover it, this reality? I can't really find the right words for this now – that we will not just see reality the way everyone else looks at reality in terms of this planet and the other planets, and so on. No, we will see reality in the true form, meaning that this screen will be removed from us and we will see the system in the true form. A system of forces where we are all connected around that central point, and we are that central point because we are on the speaking level. And that still vegetative and animate of the whole reality exists around us in order to join us and complete the whole picture. We will discover this.

Question (ITA 4): (14:53) Why is our spiritual development, as written in the article, dependent on the importance we receive from the past?

M. Laitman: The more we understand what we are going through and the more we are aware of what we went through, the more we – not in our mind but emotionally – we understand where the Creator took us from. Then, as a result of that, through the right attitude to Him, being grateful for the past. We begin to prepare the Kli to receive the future. It gives us a more and more correct attitude to the Creator.

Student: Is this called, the awakening from above?

M. Laitman: No, we have to try to do it ourselves. I don't relate the awakening from above to myself at all, only to the awakening from below. When can I turn to the Creator, awaken Him? What exactly do I awaken in Him and what do I ask of Him? This is what I should be asking of myself and the group, and work together with them.

Question (MAK 10): (17:08) What is it to be the servant of the Creator, practically?

M. Laitman: To be the servant of the Creator means that to some extent, as I am in the will to receive. And it is all according to the desire – I want from the Creator and I do all kinds of actions in order to perform in my will to receive what the Creator wants me - actions of bestowal and love – as much as I possibly can. This is called, being the servant of the Creator.

Question (W Moscow 18): (18:15) Can we say that gratitude is the cause for joy in the spiritual path and this is the main criteria on our path?

M. Laitman: Yes, how beautifully they say it. Only according to the extent of joyfulness that we have as we come in contact with the upper system. Only according to that, we can we come closer to adhesion with the Creator. We should understand that it is impossible to approach the Creator if not from a good, positive, high spirit. He bestows all the goodness to us and we have to approach Him in the same way. So, either a person erupts and cries, and there is a reason for it which is typically his lack of the force of bestow. That he discovers that he cannot bestow and the Creator hears that; and if a person erupts about what is happening to him in life, not that he wants to achieve bestowal. But besides deficiencies that he can't and doesn't want to reach bestowal, all the rest of his life the Creator orchestrates that. He does that deliberately in order to bring the person to the shattering of his heart and to make him turn to the Creator again. We are crying about how the Creator addresses us, it indicates we don't understand what He wants from us at all. We don't feel what it is the Creator wants to tell us? We don't understand Him, and we don't properly decipher His dialogue with us, and so, we have no choice here. But through the group that we are in, there, we can certainly approach the relationship with the Creator correctly and answer Him, and achieve success. Without incorporating with the group, we won’t be able to understand, to hear, to properly decipher what is happening to us with the Creator, it is impossible. Only by incorporating between us, by that we can begin to feel what He wants from us, what He is doing with us. And how we need to organize ourselves to be on the same wavelength so that we begin to answer Him and respond to Him so He will also listen. There is no other chance, so the connection in the group is necessary, that’s it.

Question (W Internet): (22:26) Is gratitude the effort we make, or the result of the effort we make?

M. Laitman: The sensation of gratitude is the result of my effort that I want to recognize the actions of the Creator towards me in order to delight, in order to connect, in order to appreciate Him all the way to love. It is therefore an effort on my behalf. We need to talk about this.

Question (Latin 13): (23:00) If there is no time and space in spirituality, what is the meaning of past and future?

M. Laitman: It is relative to what happens to a person; so far, what happened to me, and from now onwards what I want to take place for me.

Question (MAK 25): (23:21) Why does the Creator give this sense of deep gratitude to everything, and then comes the state of indifference? How to be grateful in every moment of life?

M. Laitman: We need to be adhered to the Good That Does Good and None Else Besides Him in every one of our states in life – in all our states in life, no matter what. This is how we can grow and increase the extremes of our work, even all these things that will come upon us, so things that will come to us will come to us for good.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (24:23) Can a person have a true concern for humanity in a person before he achieves spiritual attainment?

M. Laitman: Concern for humanity in a person?

Student: Can a person truly care about humanity before spiritual attainment?

M. Laitman: I think so, because we are living, already, in a system that has been disclosed to us to the extent in which we are dependent on another. No one can say that I built for myself a home and I have some food storage place, and I have a few cows and a few horses, and I can kind of disconnect myself from the whole world – there is no such thing, there is not. More and more we discover, day after day, the extent that our ego doesn't want to reveal this to us. But we also discover our dependency, such a great dependency that is going to be revealed more and more. That we will see that we have no choice: If I don't think about the well-being of others, I can't assure anything for myself, either. My future is dependent on me being between everyone, and that everyone needs to think about everyone. That is being revealed more and more in the integral world of today. It is a very harsh revelation for humanity but this specific revelation will change the face of humanity. Meaning, this specific revelation, of the general system which closes us in more and more into a closed place.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:52) What is the past and future in the Ten? Is there any engagements with the past in the Ten?

M. Laitman: Yes, just like it is written, that we live, and we need to also talk about the past and what we have done, so that we will have the forces and the direction to advance to the future that we want to build.

Reading: (27:43) Baal HaSulam, Shamati #27. What Is “The Lord Is High and the Low Will See”? - 1 Twice

I heard on Shabbat Terumah, March 5, 1949, Tel-Aviv

“The Lord is high and the low will see.” How can there be equivalence with the Creator when man is the receiver and the Creator is the Giver? The verse says about this, “The Lord is high and the low…”

If one annuls oneself, then one has no authority that separates him from the Creator. In that state, one “will see,” meaning he is imparted Mochin de Hochma, “and the high will know from afar.” However, someone with pride, meaning one who has his own authority, is distanced, since he lacks the equivalence.

Lowliness is not considered one’s lowering oneself before others. This is humbleness, and one feels wholeness in this work. Rather, lowliness means that the world despises him. Precisely when people despise, it is considered lowliness, for then he does not feel any wholeness, for it is a law that what people think influences a person.

Therefore, if people respect him, he feels whole; and those whom people despise think of themselves as low.

M. Laitman: A very short article, really short quotes, but in every sentence, in every half of a sentence there is a lot of content, here. Well, let’s see what it is.

Question (Toronto 1): (32:01) What is the difference, if there is one, between the state of a servant of the Creator and the worker of the Creator?

M. Laitman: Those are two degrees: The servant of the Creator is when he nullifies himself completely, certainly willingly he nullifies himself, and he is willing to do all of the actions of the Creator. Whereas the servant of the Creator as or one who works for the Creator is one who does not feel that the Creator compels him to nullify. But he annuls himself by his own volition; it is a matter of choice. What and how much, what level he is annulled to the Creator and does His will? The difference between the servant and the worker of the Creator – the servant is one hand a degree that is smaller than the Creator's worker, but on the other hand it is also greater than the worker. It depends on what levels we are talking about; the servant of the Creator is annulment on behalf of the person’s ego. Where he is annulling himself, his nature, completely and then becomes the Creator’s servant, which is of his own will.

The one who works for the Creator works with a mixture of his own feelings and intellect. And then he has three lines in the work, meaning there is already an involvement from the side of a person’s self. A servant just works in adhesion with his Host, his Lord, with everything that the Lord wants to do, and he is capable, and does, and wants, and executes. Whereas the one who works for the Creator is constantly having to come to agreement with the Lord, the Host, and to see where it is worthwhile and how he can work above reason. But he, nevertheless, always has a certain critique about the Host – there are many levels here. Here it is even more special that we can reveal the Creator only to the extent in which we lower ourselves relative to Him, otherwise we do not see.

Look, we are now within the Creator, in the upper force, but we see this world: the friends, everything that we have in this world - good things, bad things in still, vegetative, animate, and speaking, where is the Creator? The Creator is concealed behind all of those. How can we come to a state where we can reveal Him, what do we need to do in order to revolve our senses? Like an iris or like a lens that you turn, and then we see instead of world that we see, we turn the lens and we can see the force that is operating behind all of the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking. It shows us now, now we discover and reveal Him because it is clear that the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking that we reveal in our corporeal senses, and even later in our spiritual senses. The still, vegetative, animate, and speaking in the spiritual that we reveal, will be so that we can reveal None Else Besides Him and the Good That Does Good as the one upper force that operates behind all of this. Therefore, this world is altogether a false concealment and then we have the worlds. The world, Olam, comes from the word Haalama, from concealing the Creator. As much as we are capable of rising above this Haalama, above this concealment, we begin to reveal the Creator behind all of that. All of these worlds become vessels and we ascribe these vessels to ourselves. And we annex them to us, and we discover the Creator in them until we fully reveal Him in His totality because all of our vessels become as one vessel and then through that we come to be as one man as one heart and the Creator fills us.
