Connecting Days and Nights - Selected Excerpts from the Sources

1. Rav’s Introduction: This is a very important topic, well actually all the topics we’re studying recently in the lesson it’s really a compilation from all kinds of writings by Baal HaSulam and Rabash but connecting the days and the nights is important especially since this is our work and it’s daily work not that sometimes we have it and sometimes we don’t but rather each and every day we have the same problem to wake up to recover not from our ordinary physiological sleep but from our internal state that we are asleep we cannot think we cannot intend aim ourselves gather and bring ourselves closer to our work and in that way to turn the night which always comes out of our Reshimot our records out of the shattering more and more and more and this is how we actually need to turn it into a day. So all of our work is as written here to connect the days and the nights so that will always need to accept the present state as night and from it onward to take part with this state and bring it to the day even higher even more clear even more such that we are in control of it that we use it we implement it in order to connect with the Creator with all of our mind and heart and this is how it is from night to days from night to days and this way each time, when we will get used to it, that we have a night and we have to turn it into a day and the day comes only if we connect the night to our process to the Creator and this is how we advance so let's read what is written in these excerpts and let's scrutinize it more deeply.

Reading Excerpt #1 (03:21) “Connecting Days and Nights, we can understand what are day and night in the work…”

2. R. (04:38) Night day night day and all of our work should be in turning the state of night of lack of scrutiny lack of understanding lack of feeling lack of connection between us lack of connection with the Creator lack of strength and lack of Interest and all of these things that seemingly get hold of us and don’t allow us to advance quickly towards the purpose of life all of these things we need to overcome them as much as possible together as quickly as possible and this is how we should press the connection between us and the connection with the Creator and draw the reforming light such that the night will as quickly as possible turn into day and this is actually our work until the end of correction in all kinds of different manners of course upon of all kinds of different difficulties but this is the work and the darkness night means emotionally in a way that we don’t feel between us any connection lack of connection between us lack of connection from between us and to the Creator lack of understanding why what for or in general without any explanation and any clear questions simply what we call the burdening of the heart that it is so difficult that the person cannot move and he just agrees to die that well the worst is that I will just die it’s not too bad in that state of darkness death also seems like light that at least I'm going to be done with that state that I'm in, so all kinds of such states and we should realize that all of that it’s all just exercises that the Creator is doing with us and we have nothing that we can do here but only to learn how we overcome all of these states and there will be more and more difficult states in all kinds of different manners until we will know how to get used to them in a way that we begin to see them truly as good states as a blessing that we begin to see the night as a blessing, the night in the wisdom of Kabbalah is considered the state of the construction of the vessel it’s not the night where we see darkness outside of the house but rather it is the time of building the deficiency this is why every fortnight begins with the night and later on there is the day it starts on the evening and there was evening and there was morning one day, day one, this is how it is written in the Torah why because everything starts from the deficiency which has to be revealed and we have to build towards it a correct attitude correct vessel and later on out of that we come to the day when everything becomes clearer we have adhesion.

3. S. (09:11) What’s not clear I’ll tell you, day when I'm in the ten the Creator in my thoughts night time is when I dwell on them it's like symmetry.

R. No night and day are two legs and specifically with them we go to the goal just like in our own life we walk and come closer using on our legs to someone or something and besides the two are equal the two of them are actually equal it’s just that we begin from the left but later on yes we go with the right and again the left and again the right every step forward we use both legs we take two steps left and right together.

4. S. (10:17) Is the deficiency something we build by ourselves or is it something that comes from above?

R. The deficiency comes from above, we just need to be drawn to wholeness to connection, to the goal.

5. S. (10:46) If we were to leave our lives and our teacher, all the rest.

R. You can say that our whole life is also the sum total of nights and days but nevertheless this is about the fact that we need to gradually go through all day nights and nights and days and only through this process of darkness and light we can advance towards to the goal.

6. S. (11:41) A person wakes up for the lesson there is no connection to the Creator he doesn’t feel the friends, what is the state of day when these changes into what? How is it felt, that state?

R. A state of connection adhesion understanding a greater feeling coming closer to the Creator we can feel that this is called a day but the night we need to understand that it is the opposite state I don’t feel the friends so much the Creator not at all, the goal also does not shine to me and I don't care about even disconnecting from them I can just fall and sleep and I don’t care what about what will happen all of these states of lack of any desire any interest in spiritual work there's no disposition no attraction towards the purpose of life that’s called night.

S. We essentially experience many such states, maybe even over several minutes you can experience both or is this some sort of contrast as to exist in one moment.

R. No, no, all of these things this is what they are called night and day and night and day yes it’s the Creator awakens in us the will receive that is greater and greater and greater it’s from the shattering he raises the will to receive in us from the shattering this is called night that He awakens the night and we need to try on our own to compose on such states between us so that we will be able to recover as quickly as possible and ask for the state of day clarity adhesion connection the importance of the goal and so on.

7. S. (14:10) Typically we say that the vessel is built correctly in the connection between us then we have to rise above the shattering and correctly start the connection between us. This form of night and day, the transition between them, is a group work or individual work? How does this transition happen?

R. Usually it is personal individual work and not group work. Sometimes we have to work on it as a whole group, this can happen as well but each and every day each and every moment we need to be aware of what state we are in and try from that state to always rise higher to connection and to the importance of the goal.

S. It turns out that the vessel and the darkness are built together with the whole group but rising above the darkness is my individual work?

R. Yes.

8. S. (15:29) It’s better to die and you said what does the Creator want from you when you feel this way, how to overcome that, how to tolerate it, what should you do?

R. To do that we will learn as we read these excerpts, usually a person should accept it and realize that it’s to his benefit that’s first and foremost this is the most important and then think about how he can invert the night into the day.

S. How to practically do it when you are in this state?

R. We will learn it and you will listen, that’s it.

9. S. (16:30) Following what I heard you say we have to overcome together; question is how to do it together. Each one sees the night differently.

R. Of course it’s not at once it comes intermittently to these friends and then those friends but nevertheless we have to hold on to the general state between us constantly, as much as possible, it should be higher and higher so that when each one falls he is inside some surrounding force from which he can also get support.

S. He has to tell something to the ten to hint at or no. That one, the one who fell, does he have to tell the ten about it somehow?

R. No, no, of course not, we will continue, and you will see all these things.

10. S. (17:45) What is the correct attitude towards the night?

R. You will listen and understand.

Reading Excerpt #2 (17:59) “there is no light except for that which comes out of the darkness..” twice

11. R. (20:00) So he actually repeats what was there before what he talked about also that the darkness comes the first degree and the next degree it always starts from the darkness a person should accept this darkness he feels in this darkness he feels bad, a state which is not clear it’s not felt clearly he has not forces no awakening no joy, lack of awakening in all kinds of different manners and then he has to work he has to work so that truly this whole darkness comes to him in order for him to add to it his own awakening and in this way bit by bit through all kinds of different means connection with the friends working with himself this is how he raises himself from the darkness from his apathy indifference from the rejection to each and every thing and this is how he advances. I saw Rabash truly with his face like a wall meaning without any emotion that he was in such states and he started dancing without any feeling and any desire just like this la, la, la, la, la, la, and he would jump as much as he could and a few minutes later he already started being a little bit different and he will do other things he would do all kinds of exercises sports exercises mostly singing and not letting himself have the possibility to just flow along with this whole state under any circumstances but actually to rise and go to a higher degree meaning in the direction of awakening upliftment importance in all possible means singing crying out dancing each and every thing that could help him but it is preferable to do it not through means that are alien to the wisdom of Kabbalah but rather those same things that we are in however that the day help our mood our spirit because the spirit here is something that truly helps us to rise from the feeling of darkness of the feeling of light so try to do that.

12. S. (23:51) In one of the lessons you said that night is the moment that we will reveal our soul. What is the spiritual meaning of night?

R. We will learn this together and also later in TES that the night is divided into several parts and we use all of these parts in order to build it is called “night shifts” that we build from them vessels and later on when we conclude the building of the vessel then in these vessels begin to receive the light, we already have the power in order to bestow this is considered that we moved to the day, this is considered night and day in our spiritual states without any connection to night and day in astronomical or earthly states.

13. S. (25:12) [no translation]

R. Of course that they will but he could be even a few years later.

14. S. (25:35) Sometimes there are states that ego likes to be in the night. I also know for myself sometimes I just open a sad music and smoke a cigarette and just look around and think about how everything is not meaningful and somehow ego likes it. So how to relate to the state?

R. It is just your state that you like to be sad, why do you put on sad music why do you sit in the dark what is that some kind of a, you have this inner state, are you engaging in meditations or what, we are talking about these states that they come to a person it’s not that he invites them, we must not invite such states we need to constantly be drawn to connection and joy and towards the Creator and this entirely does not come through sadness and darkness but it will come it's just the way you are now but later on you will see that if you allow states, that you will give states that are far away from the Creator a different characteristics than you do now, it will come.

S. How to be loyal to Creator? I know that if I had an upliftment if I had a motivation I would lose that upliftment and motivation tomorrow. I will feel day and night day and night endless cycle……….friends again and again but in the spirit how to be a loyal to the Creator how to be in Arvut with friends how to stay stable in the path in the direction.

R. Only through efforts habits and the friends you have nothing else then if you invest in that the Creator on His side also gives you support already He gives you support.

15. S. (28:28) When the ego justifies the darkness what advice can you give a friend to come closer to the friends above this resistance?

R. When a person doesn’t have any strength and feels rejection it’s really hard to do anything we also as a group need to detect such states in the friends and try to bring them closer to include them incorporate them somehow shake them help them get up to the lesson et cetera but actually this is the work of the group whereas on the side on the person what’s good for him to do is that he takes let’s say some kind of a commitment for himself that he obligates that he let’s say needs to wake up and call everyone to wake them up for the lesson that he's responsible for some kind of work in the group and all kinds of such things these things are very beneficial to the spiritual advancement.

16. S. (29:51) You mentioned that Rabash used to dance and sing to get out of a low state, but it seems a bit counterproductive as you're not trying to connect to your friends when you are at a low state you’re thinking of but yourself even focusing more into yourself by dancing and singing, how does that work?

R. I give an example of Rabash who didn’t have friends like we do many friends around each one of us in groups et cetera seemingly on his degree was alone and this is what he did I'm just giving you such an example so that you too will understand that people on the highest degrees that we can imagine also have spiritual work and also in such forms.

S. The only reason I'm asking is because I’m trying to think how I can use that example when I'm in a low state and it seems like I'm using a physical corporeal action to stay inside spirituality and it kind of contradicts in my head.

R. So don't do that do something different you do not have to do that.

S. Is there any prevention from using a corporeal action to stay in spirituality or I can use it, or it doesn't matter?

R. Yes but nevertheless it's preferable to use something that has to do more with society with the study dissemination all kinds of such things this is why we recommend that a person will have some permanent place permanent engagement in dissemination so that he will be connected with other people so this will obligate him to come closer to people to mix with them, that helps a lot.

17. S. (32:27) Why do we need to turn night to day as quickly as possible are there any necessary things that we need to accumulate at night in order to come to day and I have to accelerate the process?

R. No state as high as it may be, it should not remain but rather we want it to be replaced but as quickly as possible to get the next the highest the next state if we want to advance.

18. S. (33:07) I will continue with your example about Rabash singing, it is a state where a person is in such a deep hole and he sings the song about the future, what does it mean that he wants to receive the faces of Divinity, a person needs to yearn for that state?

R. His intention is that he wants us to rise above that state, which begins the next state, which starts from the darkness, and he wants from this darkness to rise to adhesion, to the importance of the goal to the Creator, that is why he performs all kinds of exercises in order to awaken and not to be as dead.

S. But how can a person be in a dead state where he is truly dead, and he can sing as it is written and Moses?

R. You should try, not going to be wise, to try and you will see that if we are in such states nevertheless we have to make an effort and to elevate ourselves.

19. S. (32:24) When there's faith everything's pretty, it's considered day, but during the night I need to feel the faith, so how to work with faith specifically during the night time?

R. How do we awaken and how to bring light into the night.

20. S. (35:01) Should there be an equalizer attitude to nights and then the day?

R. We do not yet know how to measure this. We need to climb as quickly as possible and as high as possible out of the darkness, don’t stay in the dark, don’t agree with the dark, although it is not simple. Although it is not so simple.

21. S. (39:06) We see that nevertheless he gives preference to the day, the state of wholeness.

R. Of course the state of wholeness is the day, we need to reach the final stage of end of corrections called the day so that there will not be no nights.

S. So in what way are they equal?

R. Equal in importance for the attainment of the goal both are important, and I treat with the states in the neutral they wait seemingly, somewhere in the middle, it is not important where I were to be as long as I move towards that correction.

S. But all of these efforts are in order to run away from the night?

R. I do not run away from the night. I collect them like the days because those are deficiencies, their Revelation of the negative forces without which I will not be able to attain the days. So each and every day I establish over the darkness that is revealed, the night, the difference between the days is in the difference between the night that appears before it.

S. [No translation].

R. I work with all the deficiency, all the darkness, the manners, and morals of disconnection that I received during the night, this is called night for me. I want to turn all of the states into connections, which is called day.

S. So what does the night come to teach me in the work?

R. How many deficiencies we still have, uncorrected vessels, distance from the Creator, lack of faith.

S. Then the state of wholeness that will be achieved after I overcome the night, in what is it more complete than just the state of wholeness that I had earlier?

R. There cannot be wholeness without the deficiency, day cannot be without night as it was written, it was evening, was morning, one night.

S. We sometimes have such states of a certain inspiration, uplifting, seemingly the night disappears there, where's the night there?

R. We are still in the states where we cannot control them, we are not sitting in the will to receive steering its wheel, right, left, forward, it is a little bit difficult, but we need to understand the advancement is it like we read it here. They always bring down states of darkness upon us, lack of desire, lack of importance, lack of importance to the group, of Creator and we have to overcome it together. Here you can’t really do it without the right environment and that is how we advance.

S. So for Kabbalists there's no such state where the day does not ride over the night, the days are always together with the night upon the night?

R. There was night before.

S. Yes, but when the day comes it is always upon the night?

R. Yes, of course.

S. What happens to the night when he is in the day?

R. For little kids their states change on their own, for grownups you have reasons to be happy or sad.. It's good to be a child to be happy about entering society and advancing with everybody towards to goal, where I am at least in this process and I'm not like everyone who is looking like animals.

22. S. (44:21) Can you say some words on how far kabbalistic student, over the years of the study, his perception, changing of the darkness?

R. That depends on the states and the degrees that he is on the higher you climb is the deeper you fall. And during the fall he discovers a deeper full darkness where we are. For us the mood is not so great so I come to the group, I eat something, I drink something, I hear something for friends, but a Kabbalist who is on the higher degrees it will not help him, he truly needs to obtain great vessels, great forces in order to recuperate and wake up. He has a great process of how to come out of the state that he fell into.

S. Perhaps I should reform the question, over the time of spiritual development is the darkness expressed in other ways to a person?

R. In each and every person, in each and every state we cannot discern exactly all the different manners and styles in the dark and how many lights, we have many lights, but these lights appear at the top of the darkness. That is before them so of course the way of the degrees, you have the steps of these degrees until the end of correction, each time is different, it is different darkness, differently light, one compared to the other.

S. In the first part of my study I experienced this darkness in a very real way where you could not do anything, where it knocked you. over the last years it developed into different kinds of darkness into a pain of separation of shame. Are these also kinds of darkness or are these what does it further develop?

R. Yes, this darkness is already closer to the truth because you just don't feel the darkness, you feel the different styles of modes and modes of separation, distance, lack of faith or light of Hassadim even the light of Hassadim, light of Hochma that is missing. This is already the way we advance, that is beautiful.

23. S. (48:08) What does it mean that to the extent of the difference between the night and the day, there is separation and in that separation the external ones can connect?

R. He speaks of the disturbances, as much as there are great differences between the night and day all kinds of differences can appear. We will scrutinize it; it is ahead of us.

24. S. (49:16) How can we identify the state of night?

R. I guess where you lack the power to advance to the goal, I lack the power to connect with the friends, Iack the power to open the book, to study in the lesson, I lack the powers for the corrections of the soul, this for me is considered the darkness.

25. S. (49:53) Do we need to hold on to the day as much as we can, as much as it is in their power?

R. Yes, we need to grow the day and light the day as much as possible.

26. S. (50:22) King David was creative during the night time but he was also worked in the dawn also, so is that a good example for combining the left and the right?

R. No, the dawn is the morning, it is not darkness. I'm not sure what the translation was for you. I awaken the dawn and the dawn doesn't awaken me. He awakens the dawn, he accelerates the night to become the day, another day comes and then he wakes up, that is what King David said.

S. Then he was writing during the night?

R. No, he did not write during the night, during the night he prays and sings.

27. S. (51:43) The more dark states for me is when I'm far away from the environment, how can I agree with such states? How can I accept with joy if I cannot rise above the anger? It does not cause me any joy when I'm disconnected from the environment?

R. Try but anger is a very bad thing, it is very, very bad. it will disturb you a great deal I'm telling you personally.

28. S. (52:43) Does the restriction we make to connect with the friends occur at night or during the day?

R. Restriction on what?

S. To connect with friends.

R. In restriction in order to connect with the friends, I don't understand the state that he is describing.

29. S. (53:46) Can we say that the darkness and the light are stages in the realization of the records?

R. Yes.

30. S. (54:08) I do not understand what holds me during the night, should it be faith that holds me when they lose the flavor at night?

R. From during the night we get help from above, they hold us, even if you want to reach separation and come out and distance ourselves from it, of all this spiritual state we are in contact with the spiritual force, so even though we are like babies that wish to run away, they do not let us run away.

31. S. (55:10) Where does the night go away when day rises?

R. The night connects to the day.

32. S. (55:22) Is it correct to look at every friend that he is going through the changes between them of night, turning to day, can we take an example from him?

R. You can do it to some extent.

33. S. (55:39) Can we say that the morning lesson is the unique opportunity to shift from the state of night to the state of day even though I don't quite feel it or don't understand it?

R. It is certain that this is how it is happening.

34. S. (55:56) What does it mean if a person doesn't see how these two states advance him together and he feels it is only the day that promotes him?

R. Just keep growing and gradually he will be incorporated with the day and the night, and you should read all those verses we are studying several times and he will see how they will help him.

35. R. (58:00) But as quickly as possible come out of it, we only need to take the deficiency from it, with that being incorporated in it more, feel more in it, we feel from this connection as quickly as possible to come out of it and to reach connection and the connection is clear to you what was the disconnect, how you came out and what can you obtain.

36. S. (58:50) What about the general states of darkness like the war that we have between Russia and Ukraine?

R. Are we learning about this or not?

S. In principle it is a state of darkness.

R. You are in darkness, that's it. We are not speaking about this darkness but about the disconnection between us and from us to the Creator.

37. S. (59:23) Do we build the Masach at night or at day?

R. We build the screen during the day and during the night, it depends on what we are talking about, the screen is a general element that separates and connects the deficiency and the attainment. So we build it through all kinds of states, we cannot say about the screen when exactly is it built, there are no set times for it. Rather different times that come both in the descent and the ascent and during the darkness, during the day that night, we will talk about it. The screen is that which separates and connects, there are many types of screens, we will talk about that.

38. S. (01:00:35) What is the difference between the work of day and night that we are studying now, the two lines left and right?

R. I cannot explain it right now and don't think about it. Tell yourself now that there's no connection there.

39. S. (01:01:07) How do we keep concentration and focus within all the things we do and also the things that we perceive and to see behind the friends the Creator always, to see any opportunities, to not be allowed into the routine of everyday schedule?

R. Try to be incorporated with your friends, it doesn't matter the states that they are in as long as you wish to be together with them and together with them specifically to rise and even if they are not they don't merit an ascent but if you think that you are ready to ascend, you will receive the forces of the ascent from above.

40. S. (01:02:14) How do we have a quick disconnection and come out of it, how do we get a quick disconnection and immediately come out of it without becoming immersed in it?

R. Of course this is the ideal state, how to do it? On the condition that there is great, strong support for the person from the environment, then every state that he receives from above through the environment can quickly recover and continue to climb. This is what the environment is all about, we have to organize it.

S. How is the support manifested?

R. This, the support is exactly in that, that you don't let us fall. That everyone feels how everyone is looking at you, cares for you, grabs hold of you, has an active interest in you.

S. The feeling of darkness that truly be felt?

R. I don't know, it's possible that you receive a disconnection from the spiritual state but don't feel yourself in a bad state. It might be like that; you don't feel the bad. So, it doesn't have to be this way but the great Kabbalists, they are extreme in those things, sometimes in regular states they wouldn't even consider, otherwise they will see it as a descent and awakens immediately to crystallize it, to try to rise even higher in the adhesion between them. That's how it is, either doing, sometimes you feel more than the ascent, the other way around they don't feel day and night but rather they feel like killing one another like the students of Rabbi Shimon, there are all kinds of states. All in all, everything revolves around the connection between us and then with the Creator, there's nothing besides that, through this different modes of connection between us and from between us to the Creator we look at all of reality, all Godliness and through that you understand everything. It is like a map, a visual aid through which you can see everything.

S. What kind of controller do we have through those states because right now we are like children, what kind of controller do we have right now?

R. You have control through your awakening and through that connection with the friends.

41. S. (01:06:08) Together how do you come out of such disconnection together?

R. Everyone together is disconnecting between them and to the Creator that's already, that's already a state that is a hand of God, there's nothing much you can do, it is a state of shattering. That's on purpose so you, with that, you will advance that way so that's why you gave everyone ascents or descents but rather those who are going up or down, that's why we have Arvut, mutual guarantee, so you can save yourself.

42. S. (01:07:30) Why during the descent I feel like I did not achieve anything?

R. During the descent you don't have to feel like you are attaining something, later you will climb and then you will understand how the descent will give you a bigger vessel and then you are working in it you are sanctifying it, you'll feel it and then you attain the next degree in it.

43. S. (01:08:16) What is the first feeling that the person experiences, is it darkness or light in order to have this basis for comparison?

R. Disconnection, disconnection is a very special and very important feeling so on top of it we build or construct our ascent.

44. S. (01:08:51) What does it mean that we in the ten need to awaken the dawn or maybe that's not the work we should use now?

R. If you wish to raise yourself in order to raise the ten and you work only in order to raise them up towards the importance, towards the Creator, towards the connection between themselves and the connection of all of you, then this is the correct work. In that, you do what Rabash writes as a friend, the lowest of everyone but in this way specifically you raise them, when you connect them, and you offer them to the Creator so he will fill them and then bring them up.

45. S. (01:10:15) We feel that we didn't have the vessels to hold it and now we have to go through a rough process of working at night, is this a correct feeling?

R. Always whenever you lose the day because of the lack of vessels.

S. But now the feeling is that I have to go through a long process during the night?

R. No, no, no, no, you don't have to wait for the night, you always need to look at the state you are in and see the harm in it, the corruption in it and it immediately he will begin to make corrections above it, to rise to the right place to look for other places where I can be connected to the friends.

S. Why accumulating the vessels anew is not a grueling long process?

R. Because the Creator is inside the group and if you run to them, that you want to connect In order to serve them, to cause an ascent with your own strength, there's no problem, you will find that everything is arranged before you.

46. S. (01:11:46) The darkness, is it a result of us being unable to reach the love of friends?

R. Correct, correct.

47. S. (01:12:04) Reading the sources does that help bring a person out of the night?

R. Also yes. That's one of the means, yes. The sources, Psalms as you say that even Rabash will dance alone in his apartment and sing and he had no desire for dancing, singing, but through that he will awaken himself.

48. S. (01:12:53) We learned that a person can receive the importance of the goal and the greatness of the Creator only from the friends because a prisoner cannot save himself from imprisonment from his own forces so what does it mean by rising of the darkness is my individual work?

R. To try. The more you annul yourself, the more you absorb the forces from the outside, from the Creator, through the group and that is how you rise.

49. S. (01:13:38) How do we get out of darkness when the darkness is not felt but rather brings some pleasures inside the will to receive in order to receive?

R. Meaning we need to define the pleasures in the will to receive in order to receive as darkness and how we can rise above these pleasures, above this darkness to the true light of bestowal and connection and mutual support this is kind of work that you have to scrutinize. For the scrutiny you need light ,therefore there are several shifts at night and a great deal of work during the light and the spiritual night is not that we go to sleep, or we disconnect from reality. The spiritual night, it's when we connect between us even stronger in order to scrutinize the coming state that still looks like night. We don't understand it, we don't feel it but in order to open it up to truly feel it we need to be connected even more.

50. S. (01:15:29) Do these states come in cycles, can we monitor them to wait for them and to know how long it will take?

R. We do not need to wait for these states to come, we ourselves should invite these states to change as fast as possible, as it is written we have the day, and we have the night.
