Part 1: Baal HaSulam. 144. There Is a Certain People

Reader: Hello, friends. We are studying from Baal HaSulam, from the articles of Shamati, the article 144, There is a Certain People. Whoever asks a question is asked to ask shortly and to the point. Here in the hall, whoever asks is asked to stand up, hold the microphone close to one's mouth, and speak loud and clear. Of course, the study material will be found on our sites, Sviva Tova and the Arvut System. We are asking that you listen to the ushers as you enter the hall.

Reading: (00:43) 144. There Is a Certain People

I heard on the night of Purim, after reading the Megillah, 1950

“There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples.” Haman said that in his view, we will succeed in destroying the Jews because they are separated from one another; hence, our power against them will certainly prevail, as it causes separation between man and the Creator. And the Creator will not help them anyway since they are separated from Him. This is why Mordecai went to correct that flaw, as it is explained in the verse, “the Jews gathered,” etc., “to gather and to stand up for their lives.” This means that they saved themselves by uniting.

M. Laitman: (02:06) Meaning, there is no other solution, no other remedy but connection between them. The fact that Mordechai went to tell all the Jews and convinced them to unite and, by that, they saved themselves from that terrible, threatening state that was revealed back then. It's simple, really. A problem appeared and that is that all the Jews are dispersed. Through Mordechai, he revealed to them, what was it, that the problem was only the separation between man and his friend. Hence, the holiday that followed, he's showing us what we need to do in order to save ourselves from all the troubles that came upon us, and that will come upon us, and will be revealed.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (04:23) What does it mean as far as we’re concerned? We know that we have work in the Ten to connect, and we know that between us in each of us, there is internal work. What does it mean, as far as we're concerned, that we're separated or that the Jews are separated from one another? What does it mean that they're united?

M. Laitman: We feel we can feel that all said and done, we're not so much worse compared to the whole world. We don't reveal that each one of us has the evil inclination to such an extent that he hates the others and doesn't want to come closer to anyone and he thinks only of himself, we're not so bad. But compared to what was revealed back then in those days in the world, the gap, the distance between one Jew and another, where they can't consider anything except for what can one receive from the other, from his friend. That's the problem in Purim, that the evil force is revealed from the side of nature, it influences the Jews as well. If they maintain themselves and don't let the evil force to work through them, then they can overcome it. Overcome the evil force, the hatred, and save themselves from it and reach connection. Where connection brings them to the revelation of spirituality, salvation, and the revelation of the Creator. That's what Purim is all about.

Student: A person's attitude who wants to enter Lishma, who wants to reach None Else Besides Him. What does it mean as far as he is concerned, that there is separation between the Jews?

M. Laitman: That's the heart of the matter, that it's revealed in nature, among Jews especially, those who have a tendency for connection, for revelation, for nearing the Creator. They do want to reach this revelation, the revelation of the gap, of the evil between them. Because, after all, by coming closer to one another, they can overcome the evil and reach the good connection.

Student: When you started the explanation, you said that we don't quite feel or distinguish, it's like a special state that's for Purim or could we work on this all the time?

M. Laitman: We can work on it all the time, it's spread throughout the entire system of the year, across the entire year. But, nevertheless, during these times of Purim we especially need to remember it and come closer to one another, each and every person. And awaken between us the good force, connection and out of this connection, we want to reach the good upper force. So, it will influence all of us, the entire people, and then we could also rise to the same level as the Jews managed to reach back then.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (09:58) How do you bridge the gap that is revealed in Purim?

M. Laitman: With the help of that light that shines in those days, since the Jews can come closer to one another, they awaken the upper light, influence the whole world, especially them. And then with the help of the connection between them, they can invite this light over all their haters, their enemies; and then we come to Purim.

Student: What is the special light that is awakened in Purim?

M. Laitman: The special light is the light that brings all the parts of creation closer to one another. A light that shines for Jews or anyone who wants to be like the Jews, meaning to be close to his friend. That light comes to the heart of each and every Jew and it brings the hearts closer.

Student: But this light of Purim we see in the same place, in the same way, through connection. There's not some special action.

M. Laitman: No.

Student: You said in a discussion with you this week that we're lacking the environment; we are lacking the environment for spiritual development. What do we need to do?

M. Laitman: We have to try and publicize the connection between us. We have to publicize the necessity for connection between us and publish it between all the Jews and all the nations, in general, because we're already in such a time where we can talk about it and awaken complete strangers to it.

Student: That's an act of dissemination that you're talking about right now.

M. Laitman: It's an act of dissemination, yes.

Student: What should we publish? What should we advertise to them?

M. Laitman: That through the connection between us, we can awaken these higher forces in nature so they will connect us and connect all nations of the world and, the whole world, into one body.

Student: That's towards the broad public, to all the nations?

M. Laitman: All the nations.

Student: Okay, so I'm asking about this article, how is it relevant to us, to Bnei Baruch?

M. Laitman: We have to do what's written here about Purim, especially for the people of Israel.

Student: We, Bnei Baruch, students who study the wisdom of Kabbalah. Are we in a state of scattered and dispersed? Or are we in a state of uniting?

M. Laitman: No, of course, we are dispersed and separated and we don't know about our purpose, our destiny. Everything we need to do in order to push all of humanity towards connection, and this way to gradually reveal the upper forces in nature. So, we would see in their appearance just how much we must reach connection.

Student: After the Convention we've just been through, the Convention of connecting to the Lishma. I’ve heard from many Tens and friends, they feel stronger in the Ten, more connected between them. “Now our face is altogether towards holding on to None Else Besides Him in the Ten.” And you're saying that we're in a state of separation and dispersement?

M. Laitman: We're still in a state of dispersion, separation, and the fact is that we can't reveal the upper force for the time being, the Creator, in the connection between us.

Student: What's missing, here?

M. Laitman: What's missing is for us to unite until that unity of us will reveal to us the form of the Creator.

Student: When you said that each of us is ready, we are missing an environment.

M. Laitman: We're lacking an environment because if we want to reach what's written in the article, first of all, it's on us. We are obligated to come closer to one another, to awaken one another to connection.

Student: Connection is a general, permanent action that's upon us until the end of creation.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What, specifically, in this am I looking for the nuance that I put emphasis on?

M. Laitman: Inside the connection, we would want to reveal the upper force, whose job is to unite us.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (17:02) I wanted to ask about the action that he writes that through uniting they save themselves. Who, in practice, created this unification? Because he also writes in that same sentence that Mordechai corrected this flaw. Who did this unification?

M. Laitman: The unification took place through the request of people who discover that the absence of the Creator causes all the evil in reality between the nations. What we need is only to awaken the connection between us to be similar to that state where the presence of the Creator dwells among us.

Student: The same prayer for the lack of presence of the Creator, who wrote it? Because it looks like it's written that Mordechai corrected this flaw?

M. Laitman: I don't know exactly what he did to such an extent but I think we have to start this action from what we're feeling. How our reality in this world, where there's no Creator, no people of Israel, there's nothing of spirituality. But we have in us the yearning for; the heart demands that we reveal it, so we have to follow the heart.

Student: That means that we all need to be in prayer for the presence of the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes. The presence of the Creator that's revealed every hour more and more will attract us more and more toward connection. And we'll gradually reveal more and more the structure of the people of Israel and that we’ll reach a complete community, connection.

Student: What does it mean that there is more of the presence of the Creator in reality? What happens to reality when He is present?

M. Laitman: When the Creator is present in reality, it means that all people in the world, each one according to the degree of his soul that's in him. Feels that there is a power in the world and we can use this power to unite and reveal more of this power. And then all of us will begin to move toward our center, toward the central point.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (20:53) To continue what you scrutinized now with the friend. Before wanting to save our soul, we need to stand guard on our soul. What is that state before it where we want to save it? That we have to stand up to protect our soul?

M. Laitman: To stand up for our lives means that we have nothing more important than the revelation of our goal, which is the revelation of the Creator through adhesion between us. All the members of the group in a state called Yashar El Israel, when we unite and we aim ourselves at Him, the Creator. That's the main thing.

Student: How do we take that special period of time where we have an illumination from above, where the Creator is giving us this special opportunity?

M. Laitman: The fact that we can be in this world and understand and feel and learn that we have nothing more to do in our world but, generally speaking, to join together, to embrace. To join together and then reveal in the connection between us, that center point which is the Creator.

Student: That's what I'm asking, how do we extend this force onwards? Not to just stay as it is but, how do we strengthen it even more?

M. Laitman: Only through connection and the connection, every moment, every hour—I can't say precisely–but, all the time, it's growing and growing and moving afar. Then accordingly, we need to bring, here, our work and the purpose of our work. Where we all want to connect together in one point and together to rise to Him, to grow Him, to appear through us, all the nations of the world.

Student: Meaning, by strengthening ourselves together, we will be able to increase the common force between us in order to draw more of the light each time?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (24:19) Look, it's very nice what I'm hearing here. Every year we repeat this but, every year, at least I have the feeling that not only does this flaw exist but it even becomes much worse. From time to time, as I sit here and I hear it, this flaw just is inflated. It's not only that we're not correcting it but it becomes much worse. Let's not forget what we just went through in the last year. It's not a flaw, already, it's not even a flaw; it's a – how should we say– it's a disaster. The thing is that we're always talking like the friend is saying and he's saying and he's saying. “Yes, in theory, yes, we should connect what we're learning in the morning to what's happening in the actual, to what's happening in reality, right now.” Baal HaSulam would always say, “look, we're learning for some time what's happening in this period of time that you're living in,” there's this sentence that he says all the time. So, I'm asking you, how do we, all of a sudden, first of all, prevent the disasters that are happening this year? It's not a flaw that's, again, it's something that's opening up and growing more and more. You're constantly telling us, “yes, you need to connect between us” and we're not succeeding. How do you see us succeeding this time for us not to go through the same disasters we went through this last year? Bottom line: How are we going to do it?

M. Laitman: I think the solution is in carrying out corrections that have a place, a room to appear, to be carried out. And for us to rise to higher degrees, the degree of the Creator.

Student: We see that we're not really succeeding, not only are we not succeeding, there's a feeling we're going backwards; we're truly moving backwards.

M. Laitman: We need to see the Creator as our goal: Return, O children of Israel, unto the Lord your God. That's how we need to see before us the path of development.

Student: What do you see, what do you feel?

M. Laitman: I see that there are thousands in our world, today, who according to their yearning, can be called Israel, Yashar-El. They're aimed toward the revelation of the Creator, the connection with the Creator. We should explain to everyone more and more accurately, clearly, what is the goal, how do we reveal it? How do we approach it, acquire it, and adhere to it.

Student: I'm getting reminded about what you told us just a couple of years ago, “wait, it'll be even worse!” It's scary each time, I'm always reminded by your words. And it's really becoming worse and worse.

M. Laitman: I don't think it's becoming worse but we are feeling the state is worse; not that the state itself is worse. It's a personal feeling, individual feeling that this is truly so.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (28:18) This action of incorporation, also a flock of, even a herd of sheep. When they see a wolf, they kind of tightly go together with, they get together.

M. Laitman: That's different, that's different, a flock of sheep, they incorporate amongst themselves with a force of fear. And each and every one holds himself, but the main thing is for him to be together with everyone and that protects him from any harm, from the upper force that's revealed and that threatens them. Whereas, among the people of Israel, when they reveal the flaw, they also reveal the way they're able to rise above that flaw. That's what we see in a few examples, it's worthwhile to learn about them and to realize them, apply them. Meaning that the important thing, the main thing, is connection between them, among the nation of Israel. Together with their connection, they have to reveal the point of connection, the center of their connection, where they will be as one. And that's possible, it has to be revealed today, already, through our prayer and for us to actually realize it.

Student: Sheep huddle up because of the fear but, also, the people of Israel that repeat that there's an external threat. So, what happens after this natural huddling up?

M. Laitman: Through this external threat, we have to awaken the people of Israel for the internal action of unity.

Student: If you could ask: It's written in the article for Purim that we read a couple of days ago that the miracle took through the fasts and their outcry. And here it's talking about them gathering, what's the connection between these two actions?

M. Laitman: The connection is that through the evil that's revealed, we begin to reveal the source of connection between us, the evil—where does it come from? It comes when, with us when the evil is revealed, it also points to the fact that we're not connecting to one another in order to bring to the other the thread, the rope from above, so he can correct himself and connect with other desires. But, rather, we, I think, are only showing each other how to escape the trouble and not how to connect between us. Even when we stay a bit longer, closer to the source of the trouble. But, eventually, the closer we get to the evil, that evil can also awaken us toward the good.

Student: We also see that there's this fast, also there's the Esther fast before the, what is this action that we have to do before Purim, the fast?

M. Laitman: That's the state.

Student: I'm asking about the fast, the fast of Esther.

M. Laitman: The fast. Through these actions, we combine all the incorporations that exist in each and every heart into one feeling, relative to which we cannot stand and we run away.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (34:34) Why is the chosen people, specifically, where the great hatred is revealed?

M. Laitman: We learn about this from many sources. That because this people need to carry out this special action of correction, that's why it's revealed as a single nation, separate from all other nations, with a special goal, one goal for everyone. And in order to realize that he needs to connect within itself and through that reach the goal.

Student: Why did I ask that question? Because it seems like it has no choice. It has to move through the revelation of hatred, and that is nothing dependent on them. He has no choice according to what you're saying.

M. Laitman: That's true.

Student: When you look at things like that? What can you do with it? When you see this kind of form, you say, what can we do?

M. Laitman: To hear what's written about it.

Student: Only those who engage in the wisdom of Kabbalah can start to understand that there's an opportunity here for a great degree.

M. Laitman: We didn't get to the end of the history, yet – we didn't get there so some things are yet to be revealed. But, based on what's written, we can see, at least, the first part.

Student: There's more great revelations before us on the path?

M. Laitman: Yes, if we, ourselves, reveal, inside of us, the connection, the revelation, the tendency, and adhesion to the Creator, we'll reveal the rest of the path.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (36:59) I know there's the final Correction from the individual work that we complete. But we feel the special light during Purim, this general light that exists only on behalf of the Creator, from the thought of creation?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (37:36) The revelation of evil, is it a sign of advancement? Or is it a sign that we are not investing enough in connection?

M. Laitman: The revelation of evil is when we don't invest enough in the correction.

Student: To continue your answer: You said that we're learning from one another how to run away from the bad and not how to come close and if we were coming close to the evil, then it would lead us to the good. That's what I heard from you, that sentence.

M. Laitman: No.

Student: Is there such a thing as coming closer to the evil, or to the bad?

M. Laitman: It's possible, of course, but it doesn't save us from blows.

Student: In a short way, the evil is revealed—we're really not capable, you described it very nicely in the beginning of the lesson. The evil connection is revealed, I hate everyone, they all repulse me.

M. Laitman: With the help of Torah, we need to learn where does this evil come from? What does that entail, what do we have to do? How, through the small revelation of evil, we come to correction between us, connection; and this way we overcome it.

Student: This very scrutiny is already good?

M. Laitman: Not only the scrutiny, the correction.

Student: Correction, of course, depends on our common prayer?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (39:24) What's the tip of the rope from above that I need to bring to a friend so he can get corrected?

M. Laitman: The revelation that you own, which you also received.

Student: What revelation do I have?

M. Laitman: I don’t know, you will see.

Student: What? Everything I feel, understand, in my intellect here?

M. Laitman: Let's say,

Student: That is something I have to pass along to the friend?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What is this action of passing along to him?

M. Laitman: You connect to him and both of you approach the tip of the rope that belongs to both of you. And you explain to one another what you need to do.

Student: What I have, actually to give him, we have to connect to this upper string.

M. Laitman: No, nevertheless, when you reveal that this is what you have to do, and because you are connected to him and you reveal to him, you explain to him what needs to happen, what needs to be done. And then the two of you do it.

Student: Also, the friend receives, attains, hears?

M. Laitman: Through you.

Student: Through me, not through?

M. Laitman: Because you are the first to have made it, that connection.

Student: I didn't quite understand, every Ten receives, hears from the sources, from what we share between us. What do I have to give him that he doesn't have?

M. Laitman: According to your depiction, there isn't anything, according to my depiction, there is. Because you worked on him, he received the reforming light through you. Now, you must take him and, together with him, share the connection to the upper one.

Student: As I sit in the lesson right now, with what intentions should I sit in relation to the friends?

M. Laitman: When you are together with them, now, when you now define the connection with the Creator.

Student: What do I want to pass to them, to the friends?

M. Laitman: Whatever you attain, you want to pass everything to them.

Student: What do I want to receive from the friends?

M. Laitman: Also, the same thing because you are working together in this.

Student: Where is our point towards him?

M. Laitman: Relative to the Creator?

Student: Yes.

M. Laitman: You are connected and in this connection you want to hold on to the Creator.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (42:56) The evil that is revealed only corresponds to the source of connection between us, then it's called evil?

M. Laitman: No, the evil that is revealed, it belongs to the next degree that needs to come to the Ten.

Student: That depends on how much we reveal Him, a certain measure of that?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes, it depends on your internal force.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (43:43) I heard that whatever you attain, you want the friends to have as well.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: We have to ask for it?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Because everything you attain is also not from you, it comes, and it doesn't matter if you see it or not. The important thing is to ask for it.

M. Laitman: Yes, but there are many questions involved, here.

Student: What kind of questions?

M. Laitman: What questions? How do you solve what's before you, which is that you need to reveal it alone or together in the connection with others? What will it bring you and everyone?

Student: Thank you.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women MAK): (45:01) What is the center of the connection between us?

M. Laitman: The center of connection between us in the end of the day is the Creator actually. But for the time being, now, it depends on what level we can find ourselves connected between us.

Question (Women Heb 2): (45:28) What should we add to increase the connection, the unity between us in the Tens?

M. Laitman: We want to be connected between us each time in the highest possible point. And from that point, we will be able to be connected with all our situations, as one.

Question (Women Ukraine 2): (46:13) What is the shortest principle message from the connection between us that we have to pass to the world? And in what way should we attain such a message?

M. Laitman: That the world has a Creator and He demands correction through connection from us. That's all.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (46:55) I wanted to ask about the evil: It talked about perception of reality. Is it possible that I perceive it as bad, as evil, and elsewhere they perceive it, differently? How to relate to it?

M. Laitman: We are in one field, one area, and each of us from this field that we're in now, holds on to what way the upper force is revealed to him. And therefore, He turns to Him and demands; and from there he is nourished. Well.

Song: (47:57)
