173. The friends, dwellers of the south, explained in their secrets the four compartments of the Tefillin in the following manner: “Sanctify to Me every firstborn,” plainly a firstborn, corresponds to the upper Keter. “And it shall come to pass when the Lord brings you” corresponds to Hochma. “Hear O Israel,” “And you shall love,” correspond to Bina, “And it shall come to pass that if you earnestly listen,” corresponds to Hesed.
Afterwards, they are all incorporated in the Tefillin, in the left arm called “strength,” as it is written, “and the arm of His strength.” There is no strength but the Torah, and there is no strength but the Tefillin.
174. The matters are not settled because the upper Keter contains everything, and it is not counted among the four portions. Also, “And it shall come to pass when the Lord brings you” depends on the exodus from Egypt, which is that place where there is freedom for slaves, Bina. For this reason, the way of our friends, dwellers of the south, is not established. Rather, we begin with Hochma, for the verse, “Sanctify to Me every firstborn,” is Hochma and not Keter.
The Creator, ZA, wears those Tefillin. They are four portions above, and four below. Four are in the place of the Moach [brain], which are the four Mochin of ZA. Four are in the place where the heart is, Malchut, since one is tied to the other, ZA is tied to Malchut.
175. One must be crowned in them since they are the high, holy name, HaVaYaH, as it is written, “And all the peoples of the land shall see that the name of the Lord is called upon you,” and anyone who is crowned with this high, holy crown is called “king” in the land.
The Creator is the king in the firmament, as it is written, “A king is held captive by your tresses.” As the Creator is King above, He is also King below. It is written, “And you shall write them on the doorposts of your home,” so that a person is complete in all, and is complete with the commandments of his master, inscribed above, inscribed below. Happy are Israel.
176. There are two writings. Although everything is hanging from one degree, they are nevertheless not from one degree. It is written, “Thus said the Lord of hoses,” and it is written, “Thus said the Lord God.” When it is written, “Thus said the Lord of hosts,” the matter comes in mercy. When it is written, “Lord God,” the matter comes in judgment.
177. “Thus said the Lord of hosts,” since this Koh, Malchut, is blessed from a righteous, Yesod, and from NH, who are called “the Lord of hosts.” At that time, the matter comes in sweetening, since it comes from Yesod. And the verse, “Thus said the Lord God,” then Koh, Malchut, suckles from the side of judgment, the upper Gevura, Gevura of ZA, and the judgment in mercy since it is written, “Lord God,” where HaVaYaH is mercy and God is judgment.
178. God is Gevura everywhere. ADNI is the bottom Gevura everywhere. For this reason, the matters are evident from the words of the prophet by the name that he mentioned—from which degree he prophesied, that he intends to say a word in its place. At that time, the faithful ones would know from which place the word is hanging.
