Part 3: Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 1. Part 1. Inner Observation. Chapter 5. #22

Reader: Hello, we're reading in “The Study of the Ten Sefirot,” we are in Volume 1, Part 1. We are in the Inner Observation section, chapter 5, Item 22.

Reading: (00:21) Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 1. Part 1. Inner Observation. Chapter 5,  #22.

22) Now that we have been rewarded with all the above, we will have some understanding of His uniqueness, that His thoughts are not our thoughts, and all the abundance of matters and forms we perceive in this reality before us is united in Him in a single thought, namely the thought of creation to delight His creations. This singular thought encompasses all of reality in perfect unity through the end of correction, for this is the whole purpose of creation, and it is the operator, like the force that operates in the operated. This is because what is merely a thought in Him, is a binding law in the created beings. Because He contemplated delighting us, it necessarily occurred in us that we receive His good abundance.

It is the operation, meaning that after this law of the will to receive pleasure has been imprinted in us, we define ourselves by the name “operation.” This is so because through this disparity of form, we stop being Creator and become a created being, and from being the Operator we become the operation.

This is the labor and the work. Due to the force that operates in the operated, the will to receive increases in us as the worlds cascade until we become a separated body in this world, opposite in form from The Life of Lives, who does not bestow outside of itself at all, which brings death to the bodies and every kind of torment and labor to the soul.

This is the meaning of the work of the Creator in Torah and Mitzvot. Through the illumination of the line in the restricted place, the holy names—Torah and Mitzvot—are extended. By laboring in Torah and Mitzvot in order to bestow contentment upon the Maker, our vessels of reception gradually turn into vessels of bestowal, and this is the whole sought-after reward.

The more uncorrected our vessels of reception, the more we cannot open our mouths to receive His abundance, for fear of disparity of form, as in “One who eats that which is not one’s own, is afraid to look at one’s face,” as this was the reason for the first restriction. However, when we correct our vessels of reception to work in order to bestow, we thereby equalize our vessels with their Maker and become fit to receive His abundance unboundedly.

Thus, you see that all these opposite forms in all of creation before us, namely the form of operator and operated, the form of the corruptions and corrections, and the form of the labor and its reward are all included in His singular thought. In simple words, it is “to delight His created beings,” precisely that, no less and no more.

The whole variety of concepts is also included in that thought, both the concepts in our holy Torah, and those of external teachings. All the many creations and worlds and various conducts in each and every one stem from this singular thought, as I will explain below in their proper place.

Question (W PT 23): (06:14) One question, what's the meaning that by the illumination of the line in the restricted place, the holy names are extended, the Torah and the commandments, the Torah and the Mitzvot?

M. Laitman: The upper light reaches everywhere to a certain extent, restricted in a specific way, and builds in that place, engenders in that place the created being, which is a result of this operation. This is number one. The other thing is that specifically the operation of the light is multifaceted, and we receive it and everything that emerges from it.

Student: Is it possible for another question? Baal HaSulam writes that the thought to delight His created beings includes also the many knowledge that are in our holy Torah.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: It's not clear why it was important to mention that the part of the delighting His created beings is also in the topic of the knowledge, and how to understand that?

M. Laitman: We learn in this light that comes to us from the Creator through all the worlds, all the Partzufim in the Sefirot, we learn from it who we are, our nature, what we can do, what we must do. The whole Torah is basically present in this light, and that's how it is revealed to us, in us.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (08:47) Baal HaSulam writes that the thought of creation is to delight His created beings in all its meticulous details. Why do we forget or think that there's something that wants to give us pleasure? Why is it so difficult, and he mentions it all the time?

M. Laitman: This, I don't know. You're going ahead of the writer. The writer didn't mention it here. I cannot tell you what it really was, because he sees from the end of the world to its end, and I cannot now begin to check him and criticize him, but this is what he writes.

Student: I was not asking about the author, I'm asking about us, about me. Why we don't feel this thought that says to delight His created beings or to do good to His created beings, and he emphasizes this. He awakens us to this thing.

M. Laitman: We discover it. That thought specifically afterwards becomes clarified to us, it becomes revealed, and we discover it in all the operations that the Creator performs on us.

Student: But how can you add the matter of delight and pleasure now in our work?

M. Laitman: Now we can't. Now we can't, because we haven't reached the same form, the form that the Creator expects us to reveal, and then he will be able to shine for us with all His power.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (10:59) From that perception that we perceive reality now today, how are we supposed to relate to life and death, physical life and death?

M. Laitman: I don't know what to say about this. We will develop and see, how much opening of the senses we will receive for it, and the mind. And then it will be clear to us who we are, where we are, why it's like this and not another way.

Student: He says that from the side of the thought of creation, it's all in one thought, to do good to His created beings. In our world, we see life is rejoicing, death is sad. How can we correct our relations to these things and see it closer to the way he sees it?

M. Laitman: We want to be closer to the Creator. And be in adhesion with Him in that same eternal place where He is, and from which, from that place, all kinds of scares come to us, all kinds of discernments and stages come to us on the path. Then we begin to understand the answers to the questions, to our questions. And we will have many more questions, and we will receive many answers.

Question (W Turkiye 8): (13:09) In item 22, it speaks of the operator and the force that operates in the operated. And the question is, how is that transition from the operator to the operated, how does that have to do with the free choice of the created beings or their free will? Where is the free choice in this transition between operator or operation?

M. Laitman: From the moment we touch the wisdom of Kabbalah, we are already connected to the upper light, which reforms us. And to which connection with the Creator, exactly which connection we need to reach with the Creator, it's already present, it is already present.

Question (W MAK): (14:30) What does it mean that in the multiple forms one needs to find the force of unification of the Creator and to receive His good abundance? And what is the right impression of the revelation of that force of unity?

M. Laitman: We reveal the Creator in all of His actions and start revealing that all of His acts are only in order to direct us, to show us that there is nothing in His thought other than to reveal to us the creation, that He just thinks about revealing His good to us. And that will be our nature to progress and to ascend.

Question (W Unity): (15:53) In the thought of creation is included the entire plan with all of its details, so there's a question here. The true filling for us, is that to be incorporated in that thought?

M. Laitman: Yes, that's exactly it.

Student: And if I may ask regarding freedom of choice. You say that the second restriction happened for that purpose, that we are at the final point of creation, it's all for that. But the person feels freedom of choice only when he crosses the Machsom, the barrier?

M. Laitman: A free created being is what a person learns upon himself, that despite him appearing to be not free, nevertheless, he reveals all that freedom that he has. That's what we reveal on ourselves.

Question (W Laitin 24): (17:13) How is it possible to turn the understanding of this text into a prayer in the Ten?

M. Laitman: When I learn the text and compare it to what I feel, when we read it and come closer to it, I see how much I am still not in a full reception of what is written here. And that attracts me onward to reach a state where everything we learn will become revealed in each and every one of us, and all in all, what we will reveal, each and every one of us, all of us together, men, women, is that all in all, what the Creator does, and what we read here, just in a more complete way, that will become revealed in us, and we will want to receive that, both men and women, we will all receive that with an open heart.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (19:19) God is love.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How is God's love expressed in the creation of the souls and creation of man?

M. Laitman: We open the worlds from above downward, one from one and one from another, and we reveal the quality of love and the kind of love that the Creator directs to us.

Student: Every day we say, and you love your Lord God with all your heart and all your might, so what do we learn by learning to love God?

M. Laitman: Love is connection, adhesion, that in which we agree with that and want that, come closer to that. By doing so, we unite also with the Creator and with the whole of creation. Therefore, that is as a command from above until we carry it out from below of love your God.

Question (W Turkiye 7): (21:15) What is the difference between the ability to receive in the vessel of the end of correction and the ability to receive in the present vessel now during the study?

M. Laitman: We feel only what reveals in our vessel, so we thus care about developing more and opening ourselves more and more. That is the difference between what we reveal in all the states or in all the degrees that we open. It is tough for me to open something here. It is all before us.

Question (Philippines): (22:26) It is said that the thought of creation only gives delight and abundance to the created beings. But the Creator also gives pain and suffering. My question is, what is really the true meaning of the phrase, “to delight the created beings”?

M. Laitman: Suffering does not come to us from the Creator, but it comes from us concealing the light from ourselves, and therefore, that's all we feel. But the moment we come to a true contact with the Creator, all those negative phenomena disappear.

Question (W Rehovot 1): (23:46) I heard you say before that the upper light reaches every place and is restricted in a special way, and in a special way begets something as a result of that action. So, what does it mean that the light reaches everywhere in a specific way?

M. Laitman: On one hand, the upper light includes all the changes within it, and therefore, it illuminates to every place. Meaning every desire, in a way where the vessel that is in that same state, in that same place, receives it and becomes filled with it, and that is how we learn.

Student: You also said that the operation of the light is multifaceted, and we receive it and everything that emerges from it. What does it mean that the light is multifaceted?

M. Laitman: We will still learn that. We still haven't learned about the light.

Question (W Heb 1): (25:18) In the text, it says that everything is included in that thought, all the knowledge in our Torah, and also external knowledge and teachings, and all creation. So, I wanted to ask, in the time of that inversion towards the end of correction, will it reach everywhere? The external wisdoms and teachings also, will that understanding pop up in every person regardless of what he engages in? Will everyone know the right path, or do we have to carry them ourselves, carry them up?

M. Laitman: No. We will learn the actions of the upper light, the extent to which they act on us, His actions, and how we receive them, become impressed by them, and connect all of our impressions to one picture.

Student: The question is, do they need to do it as we do, or will they engage in whatever they engage in, and it will reach them and pick them up?

M. Laitman: Who are you talking about?

Student: The whole of humanity.

M. Laitman: The whole of humanity is like him. More and more people will come, they will get more and more of an illumination from above, and that will push them to a higher and more internal study.

Question (W Almaty): (27:21) Regarding everything being a cause and consequence, the light of infinity is our final degree, but the next degree for us that we need to rise to, is that adhering to Rav, seeing how much we can do that? So the only thing we need to pray for is to be awarded with that kind of relationship with you as you had with Rabash? Is that the main condition for our advancement?

M. Laitman: In principle, yes, but I don't think that that is the first request, it's not the first request. You'll see. That prayer will awaken in you.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (28:14) I heard that we study, and the more we study, we see that we're not receiving from the Creator fully. And my question, in the middle of item 22 here, it says that the more we exert ourselves to study Torah and perform commandments to bestow contentment upon the Maker, then our vessels of reception gradually invert into vessels of bestowal. But with that, he says that we receive because of fear of disparity of form, we have some fear of disparity of form. So, how do we deal with that fear of disparity of form in our daily life?

M. Laitman: Through the connection between us. Through the connection between us, we come to a state where we are already in the influence of the upper light, and it changes us.

Student: So, that's the question. How do we help each other in the connection between us so that fear… You see that a friend has difficulty progressing, he stops, how can we help each other truly in that daily struggle?

M. Laitman: I think that what's most important is that if we learn together as one Kli, as one vessel, and raise our prayer to one Creator, and we expect from Him changes at every moment toward the correction. That is what we need.

Student: So, each friend who we see that seemingly has some issues, struggling daily…

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: We need to see that as part of our correction? And what do we need to ask for the correction? What do we need to ask the Creator for?

M. Laitman: It's all corrections.

Student: Okay, but we pray every day. We want to focus our prayer to the Creator. How do we focus our prayer such that it's more directed towards correction?

M. Laitman: Through the connection between us and our aim in the direction of the Creator, to adhere to Him.

Question (Petah Tikva): (31:08) Reading the beginning of the last paragraph. “Thus, you see that all these opposite forms in all creations before us, namely the form of operator and operated, the form of corruptions and corrections, and the form of the labor and its reward, are all included in His singular thought. In simple words, it is to delight His created beings, precisely that, no less and no more.” It's a bit difficult to ask about such lofty things, but what does it mean, no more and no less, especially no less or no more? Can we think about something that is more than what is included in the thought of creation?

M. Laitman: No, certainly we understand that the upper light that comes to us needs to be exactly suited to our vessels, and our vessels then will reach the upper light. They will respond to the upper light in a correct manner, when they connect correctly to each other, and that we will all be able to be as one vessel.

Question (W PT 33): (32:51) How to receive the change the Creator makes in us with an open heart and with the understanding that every such change is with the intention to do good to His created beings, especially when that change is felt to be punishment and pain.

M. Laitman: I don't think that we can require changes in such a way in our development so that they will be felt in us as pain and punishment. It's not worthwhile to seek how we can feel the Creator in such a way. The Creator cannot, that's the whole matter of concealment. What are we doing? The matter is simple, from above downward comes to us light, it needs to open us to the extent that we agree with the light, then it need only reveal its light in vessels, and that is what we need, that's what we reveal.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (34:28) It's written in the heading that the thought of creation compels every item in reality to emerge one from the other until the end of correction, and later he writes that gradually, the vessels of reception in us invert into vessels of bestowal. So, my question is, why does it happen gradually? Why is the path of correction gradual, from the light to the heavy?

M. Laitman: How could it be any other way? When you went to school or wherever you learned, there's always order in the study.

Student: But the Creator can do it all at once. Why is there a need for the created being to go through all these stages one after the other? Why is it all ordered by degrees?

M. Laitman: Look, I cannot tell you. The best is if you yourself ask the Creator. You have such a connection with Him, that we can ascend to him with all of our complaints, questions, requests, and we receive, really, pretty much immediately, we start receiving responses from him. So, let's do that.

Student: Proper response, you could say it's a force, but above reason, above what I see. Is the power to go above what I see, the response, the reaction?

M. Laitman: Yes, try that, and you'll see.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): You invite us to ask the Creator ourselves?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And if I don't receive a reply from the Creator?

M. Laitman: So that He will bring us his response. Why can’t I receive, what's the reason for that? Maybe we can discuss that and answer together, to the Creator, this problem.

Student: (37:03) So, if I ask the Creator a question, and I don't receive a response, I don't feel he's answering my question. I ask repeatedly, and I don't get an answer.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: What should I take from that?

M. Laitman: That the Creator doesn't answer you, so you should turn to Him, like you turned to your flesh and blood teacher.

Student: Pressure Him, demand, answer me, or maybe that's the answer, and I should shut up.

M. Laitman: No, don't be silent. Ask what you need to change in yourself in order for the Creator to hear.

Question (MAK 11): (38:09) It is written that the purpose of creation is to do good to the created beings. But do we need to feel the Creator's love, that joy He wants to give us?

M. Laitman: We need to feel everything, the whole of creation, all the worlds, but gradually.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (38:38) It's written that the Creator has a single thought, but I have infinite thoughts, which aren't really under control, and most of them are just idle thoughts. So I wanted to ask, how can I think in a spiritual way?

M. Laitman: I didn't understand. How is it possible to think?

Student: In a spiritual manner, not with the external mind, which Baal HaSulam writes about, but to think properly, to think correctly.

M. Laitman: It will come.

Student: Will it come by itself, with the reforming light, or can I try something?

M. Laitman: By that in which you will seek.

Student: Seek?

M. Laitman: Seek good thoughts, directed correctly, through the friends to the Creator.

Student: I don't understand what it means to think through the friends, through the Creator, something.

M. Laitman: You want to scrutinize through your group, your Ten. You want to scrutinize such and such questions that you have about the Creator's behavior with you. That's what pains you, that you have many questions, and you cannot receive answers to them that satisfy you.

Student: What does it mean to... Maybe I can understand what it means to address the Creator, somehow, but what does it mean to address the Creator through the friends?

M. Laitman: So, not through the friends. Turn to Him alone. Do it alone.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:54) I heard you say that the light, the upper light, needs to match our vessels exactly, and if the light doesn't match our vessels?

M. Laitman: It couldn't be that it's not adapted to your vessels, otherwise you wouldn't feel it.

Student: And if I feel it's in a way that I cannot justify?

M. Laitman: So, you have a problem, you need to check, criticize.

Student: I'm criticizing all day long.

M. Laitman: What?

Student: I'm criticizing all day.

M. Laitman: And what turns out to you from that?

Student: That other than prayer, there's nothing to give. It's a question, I guess I don't…

Question (Bulgaria 1): (42:06) What does the wisdom of Kabbalah call processes which are opposite to entropy?

M. Laitman: There are no such processes that oppose entropy. There are no such processes.

Question (Turkiye 1): (42:46) We've read in item 22 that we are actually being operated by the Creator, that it appears that the Creator does everything. If so, where is our true work? What exactly is our part in the process?

M. Laitman: We still haven't reached true work. We still haven't reached that. We still need to talk about that. But we still want to detect the place we are in and how we need to be connected among each other, and to whom, meaning to the Creator, in order to incorporate in true work.

Question (Barcelona): (44:03) Today, much was spoken of regarding how the Creator answers our prayers.

M. Laitman: Someone is playing with your microphone. Organize your microphone and speak.

Student: Today, we talked about the Creator's response, the Creator's replies. What we read in TES, is that revealed to us as an answer?

M. Laitman: I don't hear anything. I need you to turn off all your microphones other than the microphone you are speaking through.

Question (Barcelona): (44:54) The system we learn about in TES, what Baal HaSulam tells us, is that revealed to us also as part of the Creator's response to us?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: How to construct a question in such a way where we can discover what Baal HaSulam writes to us in TES?

M. Laitman: Read what you are studying and try to put together from what you are studying a question or a few questions, and see whether the Creator answers your questions. Okay?

Question (Florida): (45:50) The Torah and Mitzvot that are extended to the line, how do we, how do we identify them? How do we use them?

M. Laitman: Torah and Mitzvot is the upper light that expands inside our vessels. We reveal them, and through those vessels we reveal them. The vessels and the lights and the lights inside the vessels is how we reveal.

Student: How do we reveal them?

M. Laitman: We will learn that during the study, gradually, whether we want it or not, we come closer to that same connection through our vessels to the light.

Question (Unity 2): (47:40) The Creator is the force of bestowal and love. If we had the proper vessel, He would bestow upon us. We've been trying for so long to build that vessel, and we fail. So, we can't bring out of ourselves that desire to connect, and if so, is that the recognition of evil?

M. Laitman: Yes, that is recognition of evil.

Student: And from that point, we need to pray to the Creator, specifically?

M. Laitman: In general, we need to take that into consideration.

Question (Latin 1): (48:38) What does Baal HaSulam want to tell us when he says that the thought of creation determines everything?

M. Laitman: That's a thought through which the Creator relates to us, and we, who wish to relate to him, we need to take that same thought and turn to the Creator.

Question (CzechSlovak): (49:23) What is the spiritual root and the essence of the process of question and answer?

M. Laitman: The question from the student to the Creator through the study, through the connection with the group, in such a way we come to connection with the Creator.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (50:02) What is the labor in Torah and commandments which brings us to receive or accept the thought of creation?

M. Laitman: That we rise above our nature to receive and wish to be as close as possible to the thought of creation, to bestowal, to connection, and from there, we start receiving lights, forces that correct us, connect us, that we become impressed by, and that is it.

Student: And this inversion, how does it happen? Because he writes here that the separate body in this world, that is death, receiving is actual death.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, how does this inversion occur, which brings us to bestowal?

M. Laitman: Through that in which we learn, we draw the lights into our vessels. Those lights come from far, from an opposite state, and then, how they influence our vessels, so they change those vessels. And that is how we come closer to the lights, and to the understanding of the act of the lights in our vessels.

Student: So what is our exertion?

M. Laitman: Our exertion is to read what Baal HaSulam wrote us, and to try to be in that. Like we say in item 23, Malchut of Ein-Sof means that Malchut does not place any Sof, any end there. So what is Malchut of Ein-Sof? It comes completely into connection with the created beings on one hand, and on the other hand, there is no Sof, there is no end there. It does not place any Sof or end there. So how can I depict that?

Reader: Should we continue reading?

M. Laitman: Where are we?

Reader: Item 23.

M. Laitman: 23?

Reader: Subheading, Malchut of En-Sof means that Malchut does not place any sof, any ending there.

Reading: (53:19) Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 1. Part 1. Inner Observation. Chapter 5, #23.

Malchut of Ein Sof means that Malchut does not place any Sof [end] there.

23) According to the above, we can understand what is presented in Tikkunei Zohar [Corrections of The Zohar, part of The Zohar] regarding Malchut of Ein Sof, for which the doors trembled from the cries of the doubtful that it was possible to recognize a Malchut in Ein Sof? For if we can, it means that there are the first nine Sefirot there, too! From our words, it becomes very clear that the will to receive that is necessarily included in the light of Ein Sof is called Malchut of Ein Sof. However, Malchut did not place a boundary and an end on the light of Ein Sof there because the disparity of form due to the will to receive had not yet become apparent in her. This is why it is called Ein Sof, meaning that Malchut does not put a stop there. Conversely, from the restriction downward, an end was made in each Sefira and Partzuf by the force of Malchut.

M. Laitman: Yes, meaning Malchut makes a Sof, makes an end in development, because it controls already, and we need to perform special corrections in order for Malchut not to disturb us.

Question (Unity 3): (55:40) Why does the vessel of bestowal come as a reward or payment for our efforts in prayer and not by itself?

M. Laitman: Why does it come?

Student: In connecting with the friends and all the work we do spiritually, inwardly, externally.

M. Laitman: So, try to connect with the friends and see whether you will have forces, attainment from that. Try that. And afterwards, tell us.

Question (Revadim): (56:29) My question is, what does it mean to build a connection with the Creator? Everything we do, it's all us trying to form a connection with the Creator. So does everyone who studies Kabbalah have a connection with the Creator, some special vessel?

M. Laitman: He has an ability to enter into a connection with the Creator, it could be that he has. And if he wants that, so then he receives.

Student:  But is there a vessel? Is there something, what? Is it study? Is it prayer? Is it being with the friends? What creates that connection with the Creator?

M. Laitman: That he has connection with the Creator, yes. That is what he has.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (57:33) The Creator acts in reality through the thought. And how does the created being act in response?

M. Laitman: Through prayer, through request.

Student: Our prayers are also thoughts, so we act through thought. We reply through thought. So, what does our thought add? What do our thoughts add to the Creator's thoughts? And how do our thoughts bring contentment to the Creator?

M. Laitman: Our thought directs us to connect with the Creator. That is all.

Student: When we clothe on the Creator's thoughts, how can we magnify them?

M. Laitman: Only through effort and thought. Okay, we have not much more, how I feel the questions.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (59:01) We heard that our exertion is to read what Baal HaSulam wrote for us and to try to be in it. What does it mean to be in it?

M. Laitman: To be in our questions, in our requests for unity, and for connection between us, and connection with the Creator.

Student: So right now we read in item 23 what Baal HaSulam wrote. He talks about this Malchut of Ein Sof, which means that Malchut doesn't create an end, a Sof. Where are we in this? Where should we be? In what exactly?

M. Laitman: That you, within, want to connect, each one in his heart. And you want to be connected together. And from your connection to turn to the Creator, with a request for the Creator to take your general connection and elevate them higher. And that is how we request from Him to perform an action.

Reader: The lesson is over. Thank you very much. I am sorry that Rav's mic got stopped. We will continue our lesson tomorrow. And before we read the Zohar together, let’s summarize the special lesson we received.
