Part 1: Recorded lesson Continued - Oct 2, 2021 - Baal HaSulam, Shamati 6. What Is Support in the Torah, in the Work?

Dear friends, for the first part of the lesson, we will watch a recorded lesson from October 2, 2021, Baal HaSulam, Shamati article 6, What is Supporting Torah in the Work? We will start with the words, “Still, we must know.” You’ll find the text on kabbalahmedia.info and please.

M. Laitman: Then he continues, still, we must know that while practiced, a Mitzvah is greater than the Torah when not practiced meaning, “when practiced” means that now one receives the light when he practiced. This is called, practiced, when one receives the light in it. Hence, while one has the light that illuminates to him, it is more important than the Torah when one has no light. Thus, the Mitzvah, when his illumination is more important than the Torah, when he has no illumination meaning that he has no liveliness, vitality of the Torah.

Question (Turkey 1): (01:52) As a group of Ten, we read the Shamati articles in turn every evening which gives us happiness. It is good for us to read the whole article because a solution is also provided at the end of the articles and this seems to give warmth to the Ten. Doesn’t this mean the light is working?

M. Laitman: Yes, that is also correct.

Question (Almaty 1): (02:34) It’s not clear, what is Torah in the system, is it light or vessel?

M. Laitman: Torah is the general system that is responsible to bring man to adhesion with the Creator, the general system. It operates on us in its general light called Torah and also the specific lights, individual ones, called Mitzvot. When I make some action in connection, a unique action, by this I awaken upon myself a unique light, that my action is called a Mitzvah, commandment, because I am actually commanded to correct myself in connection with others and then as a result of this, from my efforts that I want to be connected with others, I invite from above a unique light towards this action that is performed. This light is called the light of Mitzvah meaning the Mitzvah, the commandment, includes my effort which is the action from below and the light that reaches it from above called the light of Mitzvah. These lights and my actions, they are small. In sum total, the light that operates on us from my corrected state from above is called Torah meaning Torah includes in it all those lights that need to influence me according to the actions of connection that I make an effort to perform from below. Then it turns out I need to perform a number of specific connections from below with all the vessels of Adam HaRishon that have been broken and separated and on my efforts to be in connection with them, I awaken these lights that have blossomed from within this vessel at the time of the breaking, even before creation. These lights illuminate in me from afar and return to clothe in me that I want to connect with the broken parts of the system of Adam HaRishon. I correct the vessel, the Kli. There is no more what to correct. Rather, only from within my private Kli, my private connection with the entire system of Adam HaRishon. Initially, it's the Ten and that’s the main thing and afterwards when the Ten becomes one, then we already connect with all the rest of the vessels of Adam HaRishon until we cause all of the broken vessels to be connected. In this, each time, they awaken the light that reforms called Torah and there are many actions in our connection and many lights that we invite from above by their actions. Thus, in sum total, our correction is called Torah and Mitzvot, that we perform the commandment to connect back between us and all of humanity and the entire vessel of Adam. By this, we awaken the lights and in detail more and more each time until these lights connect to a whole light called Torah. These are actually our actions.

Question (Moscow 4): (07:58) It is written that one achieves a certain phase along the way?

M. Laitman: He already reached the number of connections with his friends and the source of the light and understands how it works and he has some vessel that he already couldn’t correct it and within this vessel, there is the light that connects the vessels and fills them; that’s called that he has already reached some progress in the work. Is that clear?

Question (Kyiv 3): (08:49) In our daily conversations in the Ten, we often talk about reception of the light. Maybe each understands it differently. Can we check what it means that we receive the light?

M. Laitman: Until you don't understand and feel how it occurs for each one, there is nothing to talk about because it all must be revealed truly, realistically within the desire that is connected above the ego, above its rejection, with the other desires that you passed the barrier that is between you and you truly want to be connected. In connection between you, you begin to feel, you begin to receive the upper light. Beforehand, you don't feel what is happening and you also don't understand what is happening. Rather, you learn in order to awaken yourselves and the light from above.

Student: If I may make a precision, it seems like usually, it means that when we come to joy, to connection,to conversation, what misleads us is that besides the ego we have nothing. I don't know if it's my ego that is happy. Is it regarded as reception of the light?

M. Laitman: That is still not reception of light because you have still not passed the barriers between you, the ego is still separating between you but we are on the way. Sometimes, we feel that we are, as if getting closer between us and when we are closer between us, then we feel more that we are near the Creator, that the Creator is precisely in the separation between us and that we annul the barriers. Then, we attain the Creator as NRNHY.

Question (Unity 2): (11:22) If I heard correctly, you said that the Torah is our connection in the Ten or the general light. My question is we learned the Torah sometimes becomes a potion of death. What does it mean that it's the potion of death?

M. Laitman: We will learn that in the future. Try to listen to what we're learning now and not something you heard there somewhere.

Question (Woman INFO): (12:12) What is the light of the Torah that shines regardless our efforts to keep Torah and commandments?

M. Laitman: Yes, there is a light that illuminates to us from the source of creation and it is a constant illumination. In this it maintains all of creation in some state, some closeness, some balance between us. Otherwise all of humanity would fall apart, all the atoms, molecules, the stars, the entire system would fall apart entirely. Thus, there is a unique illumination and it changes each time like breathing—closer, farther—there are changes in creation that we see. It’s all by the light that illuminates as always in constant change like the waves in the sea; that’s one. There is, in this, also degrees of this illumination but there are high degrees in illumination, like we say root, 1, 2, 3, 4. From the 4th degree of illumination, there is the thought of creation, truly, with respect to us, with respect to the souls and then, from there we are activated. There are the degrees of creation that activate the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking, and in the speaking, there are also many stages. We are now in a very high stage because that same upper system wants to advance us towards the awareness of the general system, recognition of the general system.

Question (MAK 6): (14:48) In the article, Baal HaSulam talks about the quality of Torah, with light and without light, and a commandment is mentioned with respect to the light. Can there be a commandment without light and what does this mean in our work?

M. Laitman: The Mitzvah is that we make an effort to get closer between us and the Creator until we reach complete adhesion. Thus, these states that we reach adhesion between us from our entire system that we are joined to this also, the still, vegetative, and animate and we are all together, adhered to the Creator; these actions need to exist by the light that illuminates and brings us the sensation of who we are, how distant we are from one another, just how much we don't want to be connected meaning this light already explains to us how much we are egoistic and then begins to progress us, to coming closer, and, once again, distancing. The light gets more distant and we get distant from each other. The light gets closer and we get more willing to get closer to one another. Then, by all sorts of such actions like waves in the sea, we begin to understand what these actions of the upper force are explaining our life to us, how we are built and where we need to reach and what form of connection between us; that’s our life. This is all by the upper light that begins to change. It is not in absolute rest of itself. With respect to us, it is always in such actions: closer, farther. If closer, we get closer to one other, we feel good. If it gets closer, then we feel ourselves, we feel bad. We enter all sorts of troubles between us, that’s how it works. That’s from the side of the upper but from our part we can, accordingly, be partners to that same upper light. As much as it operates on us according to its program, we can be above its influence. That’s called Israel, those who yearn to be Yashar El, direct to the Creator. To Him, Israel are called to be above the luck and the stars. That means we can be above all these changes, that we can go towards connection between us and accordingly in connection with the upper light, according to our effort and it will all be dependent on us and, specifically, the Creator very much wants it to be so. That’s called my sons have won me over and thus, we need to make an effort as much as possible day-by-day. At the end of the day, that we will be able to truly say, to summarize the day, that, at the end of the day, we can write the summary that today we have attained such—come closer between us and soon we’ll have such degrees that we will be able to write, we got closer in such and such degrees of coarseness, we got closer over such and such forces that are against connection and we have attained the level of connection and have attained the light that reforms and attained the light that fills us in our new connection and that’s how we need to progress. In this, we are performing both Mitzvot as we just learned what Mitzvot, the commandments are, the actions of correction and, also, Torah, the light that illuminates from above, that helps us come closer, to what’s called a Mitzvah and fills us, each and every Mitzvah, each coming closer in the upper light called Torah.

Question (Turkiye 3): (19:59) Does Mitzvot (commandments) serve to expand our vessels? Do we draw Torah through Mitzvot (commandments)?

M. Laitman: Correct. Both.

Question (Latin 7): (20:40) What is the barrier that we need to break between us? Does this barrier also exist with the Creator?

M. Laitman: It's mainly so that we feel the barrier as existing between us. It is in order that we, practically, will be able to do something. If, let's say, I didn't have friends and I only had a connection with the Creator. I am the only one in the world. There is no humanity, nobody, just me and the Creator and the Creator is concealed. Then, I am like in a desert. I have not with what to connect, what to make any motion, right, left, back, forward. I don't know what to do. What happens is that I must have some practical field of work to do something. The Creator that created the will to receive and later broke it, shattered it—it’s not from the beginning of creation, it’s after he built the entire system—then, at the end He built Adam. Then, in this system of Adam that He broke into pieces, in this gives Adam the opportunity, through connection with His vessels, between His vessels, to recognize what is the Creator, the force of connection between the vessels, the force of love, in participation that is found outside of the egoistic, broken part. Then, it seems to us that we are connecting the broken parts between them. From the broken parts, connecting between them we won't get any benefit. The benefit comes from the connecting the forces that are between the broken parts which is seemingly the Creator that broke, and we connect Him; that’s what’s called, “You made me.’’ Then, we have a connection with the Creator meaning, by our work, we bring Him to life from the dust, that’s called, from the breaking. Meaning, it's not actually us who are broken, not the will to receive that is broken. Rather, the Creator is broken in our eyes.

Student: Everything we see and read in the Preface, will it also appear in the relationships among the friends in the group?

M. Laitman: Yes, and that's in the Ten. We can see where the Creator is or not, near or not, that He is between us, as much as we can locate the force of connection between us, as much as we will give Him importance and room, space, as much as we’ll want to bring Him to life, to form Him, as it’s written, “You have made me,’’ in this extent, we are getting ourselves ready to reveal the Creator and all of creation in its corrected manner of the end of correction.

Question (Latin 4): (25:46) According to the text, can we attribute a commandment to ascents in Torah—that’s not related to the descents, are they related?

M. Laitman: No. There's no such thing that we're outside of Torah and Mitzvot (commandments). We’re always in it. It just depends on what degrees. We are always in some actions either on our part or from the side of the Upoer force, that we are always in scrutinies. Even scrutinies in our world are also continued and incorporated in the general scrutinies of correction, although that they are very slow, nonetheless they advance humanity to correction. You see how, somehow, we have gotten closer over thousands of years of human development to the state that we are in today, that we all, we already think what's going to be with us, what's going to be with the future of the world, where are going to, why all these ascents and descents between us, between all the relations between us in our connected world, and so on. There is a—people have come near and soon we’ll reach a state of the process, the direction and the human corporeal development will approach that of the spiritual development. It’s already beginning now. That’s why it’s called the last generation, that these directions are becoming closer, they’re connecting, joining to one another. Then, we will continue with them onwards, meaning all of humanity will begin to understand that its development can only be specifically by a minimum of physical work in this world, in what we are engaging in, and that a maximum in spiritual work, in making the correct, nice connection between us. That will be the main action of ours, our main production, the future one that will be close to us. In this, that we will work on building the connections between us and, specifically, by building the connections in the correct manner. Humanity will engage in this. I hope, surely, by more revelation of evil but it will reach a state that it has no choice and we have to help with this. That will be the only work for human beings. The level of Adam is created beings like us that need to engage only in the building of connection between them in order to reveal the Creator.

Question (ITA 1): (29:33) Here, in the articles of ‘’Shamati’’, there is an invitation to work in the matter of a potion. Meaning, we have to look for joy and love, and only look for adhesion with the Creator in every situation. But if we do this, are we not increasing our will to receive by doing this?

M. Laitman: We want to do this. To look for support in the Torah, that support in connection between us, and that’s the main thing. Now, surely by this, it could be that we’re limiting our will to receive. The will to receive will always grow until the end of correction, where there it will be revealed in its largest manner possible. The main thing is that the will to receive, in any case, will be in the correct connection between all its parts. Thus, we need to make an effort to connect between all the parts of the will to receive, the egoistic parts, antagonistic parts, and their connection will be corrected by Torah. Meaning that we are covering our egoistic forms with a screen. That’s called,’’ love covers all crimes.’’ We don't erase the will to receive. No, we just cover it with the force of connection. Then, it turns out that we have the force of connection and the force of separation, and the gap between them, as much as there is a contrast or difference between them, there we reveal the force of our reality, the wisdom of mind and sensation. That with both we reveal the essence of creation, the essence of the Creator.

Question (Woman INFO): (32:08) Is a commandment done only in the intention to give? Is a Mitzvah (commandment) carried only out of an intention to give, to bestow?

M. Laitman: Surely, because it’s only in the intention to bestow, we say. Each and every commandment exists on the intention to bestow, which is the opposite of the intention to receive of our ego. If it’s the intention to receive, it’s called a sin. If it’s the intention to bestow, it’s called a Mitzvah, commandment.  So,  to give is a commandment. Correct, you're asking correctly.

Student: Is it correct to say that the light of a commandant is created by us from below?

M. Laitman: Surely, we invite the light of Mitzvah. Each and every action of ours in effort to connect invites from above light that illuminates already, a vessel that we want to connect between the two opposing parts. If we want to connect between them, to operate as one, then the light illuminates from above and connects these parts as if together. There are many inner detailed parts here, many actions. Then, we see, we feel it on ourselves how the desires begin to be connected. That’s called, ‘’one man as one heart.’’ From two, let's say, that connect as one, and accordingly the light illuminates in them. That each and every light that illuminates in each one, only in a small illumination in order to hold them, maintain them in existence. Afterwards, we begin to feel that these lights that begin to connect from each and every one, they begin to connect together upon their ego that lets go of itself, that it begins to feel the light that connects from these two foreign, alien parts. Then, this light that results from it is felt in us as the Creator, because the Creator is always the upper degree than us, that created us in the ladder of degrees, in all this order of expansion from above to below. Then, it turns out that we feel the higher degree, which is the Creator. Each time, we adjust it, as much as we come together, more and more. Then, we attain the level of the Creator that is higher and higher. Each time, the Creator is revealed to us in a manner that is more and more complex and understood.

Question (Kyiv 1): (36:00) You said that the daily summary we have to write down, as much as we come closer to reveal the Creator. How to summarize the day together in the ten if every friend feels something else?

M. Laitman: It's very good that you talk about what each one feels. Beyond that, I can't tell you. Let's start.

Student: About the excerpt, it is said that the quality of the Torah is that a person is in happiness thanks to the light shining on him. Afterwards, it says that the state of happiness comes from that the friend feels good and not me. What is the difference between those two states?

M. Laitman: The fact that the light shines to me is to awaken me to continue. It’s like a child that we awaken by all kinds of candy or good words. But if I'm walking already and attaining the right connection, I don't settle for that. I want to reach the light that shines on the vessels in the connection between them, that is established in them. Then the connection, with the intensity of the connection in different vessels, brings greater lights. Like we see with computers and all kinds of machines and systems that we are building. The more components you have, which are different from each other but can communicate, the system is more enriched it is more powerful. That is how we are, that’s how we should see the connection between us.

Question (MAK 25): (38:45) Our meetings in the group take place in happiness and connection, they give us fulfillment. But is a Mitzvah (commandment) in action? We have a friend that doesn't feel this happiness, we see that he feels so bad that he wants to toss everything away. So, what should we do?

M. Laitman: Accept him with whatever he is and let time do its work. You understand that this is how he behaves, there is no choice, that’s the Creator who awakens the evil inclination in a way that he can't hear what you are doing, what you are hearing, or what you are learning. That’s on one hand. On the other hand, the Creator doesn't let him come out of that, He doesn’t throw him from the group. This is why you shouldn't do it, as well. Don't throw him away, keep him there and let the light that reforms affect him. Only under the condition that he doesn't harm you. So, examine that, is he doing harm? Usually, it’s best if you tolerate him, and you keep him in the group.

Student: We want to leave him in the group, but he is rejecting us. He writes that he is willing to give up and we, on one hand, don't want to pressure him.

M. Laitman: If he wants to leave, let him leave. If he wishes to leave, he should leave. But it's not that you are pushing him out if he's not doing harm. That is something we should scrutinize.
