Part 2: “Rising Above Reason” - Preparation for The World Kabbalah Convention.
Reader: We are reading. We are in a lesson on the topic of Rising Above Reason, Preparation for the World Kabbalah Congress, Excerpt No. 7 by Rabash. You can find the study materials on our websites and the Arvut system.
Reading Excerpt No. 7: (00:32) RABASH, Article No. 12 (1991), “These Candles Are Sacred” - Twice
The most important is the prayer. That is, one must pray to the Creator to help him go above reason, meaning that the work should be with gladness, as though he has already been rewarded with the reason of Kedusha, and what joy he would feel then. Likewise, he should ask the Creator to give him this power, so he can go above the reason of the body.
In other words, although the body does not agree to this work in order to bestow, he asks the Creator to be able to work with gladness, as is suitable for one who serves a great King. He does not ask the Creator to show the greatness of the Creator, and then he will work gladly. Rather, he wants the Creator to give him joy in the work of above reason, that it will be as important to a person as if he already has reason.
M. Laitman: Questions?
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (03:25) It's written, he should ask the Creator to give him the force to go above reason, above the body. Even though the body doesn't agree to the work in order to bestow, he asks to be able to work in gladness. It turns out that the reason of the body is not to work, and he's asking for forces to work. That's how it works?
M. Laitman: He asks to have the strength to work above his reason, yes.
Student: Here it's written, the reason of the body, what does that mean?
M. Laitman: The reason of the body.
Student: Not to do anything?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Reading Excerpt No. 8: (04:30) RABASH, Article No. 24 (1991), “What Does It Mean that One Should Bear a Son and a Daughter, in the Work?” - Twice
The work above reason should be unconditional surrender. That is, one should take upon himself the burden of the kingdom of heaven above reason. A person should say, “I want to be a servant of the Creator even though I have no idea about the work, and I feel no flavor in the work. Nevertheless, I am willing to work with all my might as though I have attainment and feeling and flavor in the work, and I am willing to work unconditionally.” At that time, a person can go forward, and then there is no place for him to fall from his state, since he takes upon himself to work even when he is placed right in the earth.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (07:05) Who surrenders to whom, here? He says the work should be unconditional surrender?
M. Laitman: Yes, that he agrees to all the conditions that the Creator places before him.
Student: Why does he agree, why is he willing to walk this path without conditions?
M. Laitman: Because, first of all, it comes from the Creator and it brings him into adhesion with the Creator, so he sees that it is necessary.
Student: The fact that he wants adhesion, that's not a condition?
M. Laitman: No, that's already, conditions, in the work.
Student: The whole matter is to reach adhesion with the Creator and then it doesn't actually matter what will happen as long as he?
M. Laitman: Yes, yes.
Reading Excerpt No. 9: (08:14) RABASH, Article 6 (1989), “What Is Above Reason in the Work?"
In the work, “faith above reason” means we must believe although the mind does not see that this is so, and it has several proofs that it is not as he wants to believe. This is called “faith above reason,” meaning he says that he believes as though he sees it within reason. This is called “faith above reason” in the work.
In other words, it is a lot of work for a person to take this upon himself; it is against reason. This means that the body does not agree to this, yet he accepts it nonetheless as though it were within reason. Such faith requires help from the Creator.
M. Laitman: Questions?
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (09:29) I wanted to ask specifically in above reason. In all the excerpts we read now, he says, as if, you're in it?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: What is above reason if it's always, as if, how do you attain it if it's always, as if?
M. Laitman: No, you are in some situation, and you depict yourself, as if ,you are now rising to a degree above reason.
Student: Eventually, do you attain that next state? Or are you always, as if, towards that state?
M. Laitman: In the end, you attain.
Student: Once you attain it, it's not above reason, anymore?
M. Laitman: It is really above reason. And now what he is explaining to us is what exercises we can do in order to obtain faith above reason.
Student: When a person works with, as if, those are the exercises?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: When he really attains above reason, what then? There's more above reason than that?
M. Laitman: No, there are degrees, but that's already regular things, usual things.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (11:05) What he attains is faith, he doesn't attain reason. He attains some force called faith when he works above reason.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: The reason that clothes in faith, that's the reason of the upper one, that's okay to have that reason? Or should I annul that, too?
M. Laitman: No, he attains faith that is above his present reason, present knowledge, or view. And this is how he can rise each time.
Student: Faith is what raises a person every time.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: By acquiring faith, also, reason goes in there?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: That's the reason of the upper one.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: That reason, he doesn't need to annul it or do anything with it. That's reason that's considered his own, but that's okay, that's allowed?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (12:16) We are two days before a Convention, and as always, there's like a confusion entering the new degree. How do we enter this new degree correctly through this state?
M. Laitman: First of all, connection, no one should think of any oneself but of every one together. And that we really want to reveal such a state of connection, that's it.
Student: Now, we're starting to feel the convention coming up, you feel something big is about to happen between us. What are we aiming towards, how do we want to come out of this?
M. Laitman: We want to come out of our states, each one wherever he was. To a state where we are above reason, where we are connected. Where each one is dependent on everyone, and everyone is dependent on each one. And in this way, we come, we attain ourselves in our true form.
Student: What's the connection between the world connection between us and faith above reason?
M. Laitman: How else can we attain it, it's impossible to attain faith above reason, otherwise. We have to have this force that elevates us above our reason, above our intellect, above even our feelings, if you can put it this way. So, we will feel this state, it is all in the feeling.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (14:48) Now, I understand that there are a lot of conditions to receive that above reason. Should there be, like, a checklist that I should check? If I have this, I have this, I have this. I need happiness, I need so on?
M. Laitman: Yes.
Question (Petah Tikva Center): (15:15) The whole lesson we are talking about faith above reason, the greatness of the Creator. What's the matter of the importance of recognition of evil?
M. Laitman: We talked about it many times, the recognition of evil.
Student: Yes, it was also the name of the article, the importance of recognition of evil.
M. Laitman: Yes.
Student: The whole lesson we were talking about faith above reason.
M. Laitman: So?
Student: What's the importance of the recognition of evil until you reach above reason?
M. Laitman: To recognize our state, that we are within our reason. And we want to rise from this degree above, that's it.
Student: In the end, it always leads you to a place where the reason wants pleasure?
M. Laitman: So?
Student: How do you reach a state that you really don't want anything, you don't have any importance towards that pleasure?
M. Laitman: We don't want to come to such a state where we have no importance for delight and pleasure. We only want that, through the connection between us, we will come to a state where our reason will pull us forward.
Student: Forward, what does it mean, forward to where?
M. Laitman: To degrees of faith.
Student: Still stuck in wanting to receive pleasure?
M. Laitman: Okay, so we will organize our tendency, our purpose, our prayer in such a way that we will receive help.
M. Laitman: Okay, we can conclude with this.
Reader: (22:24) We’ll end with a song.
Song: (22:27)
