Baal HaSulam. Shamati 47. In the Place Where You Find His Greatness

Reader: Hello friends, in the first part of the lesson we will watch a recorded lesson from the 4th of November, 2021 on Shamati 47, “In the Place Where You Find His Greatness.”

Reading: (00:32) Baal HaSulam. Shamati 47. In the Place Where You Find His Greatness

I heard

“In the place where you find His greatness, there you find His humbleness.” It means that one who is always in true Dvekut [adhesion] sees that the Creator lowers Himself, meaning the Creator is present in the low places.

One does not know what to do, and this is why it is written, “Who sits on high, who looks down on heaven and on earth.” A person sees the greatness of the Creator and then “who looks down,” meaning he lowers the heaven to the earth. The advice that is given to this is to think that if this desire is from the Creator, we have nothing greater than that, as it is written, “He raises the poor out of the litter.”

M. Laitman: In other words, we have to relate to all our states. If we accept them, all of them, as coming from the Creator — they all come from the Creator — then we have to relate to all those states as to complete states, meaning that they are all directed toward the goal of the final correction, the end of correction, to bring us to it. We have to work on ourselves to accept every single state as a perfect state. And it doesn't matter what state we are in; even if I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will not fear because You are with me. If a person works on being adhered to the Creator, always, because You are with me then even if the Creator takes him through all kinds of states that are the valley of the shadow of death, something awful, he is not afraid. He accepts these things as the opposite, as good states, special, sublime.

Reading: (02:56) Baal HaSulam. Shamati 47. In the Place Where You Find His Greatness

First, one must see that he has a lack. If he does not, he should pray for it, why does one not have it? The reason he does not have a lack is due to the diminution of awareness.

Hence, in every Mitzva [commandment], one must pray, why does he not have awareness, for he is not keeping the Mitzva in wholeness. In other words, the will to receive covers so he will not see the truth.

If he would see that he is in such a lowly state, he would certainly not want to be in that state. Instead, one should exert in one’s work every time until he comes to repentance, as it is written, “He brings down to the netherworld, and raises up.”

This means that when the Creator wants the wicked one to repent, He makes the netherworld so low for him that the wicked one himself does not want to be so. Hence, one needs to pray pleadingly that the Creator will show him the truth by adding to him the light of the Torah.

Question (PT 18): (04:48) Where the writer has such forces of overcoming and certainty that the Creator will help him and everything will work itself out and it doesn't matter what he's going through, he's got the strength, the goal is strong, he is aimed,  in spite of everything that's happening to him?

M. Laitman: Well, but you understand that they are in a different state from yours.

Student: Yeah, but the aspiration is to reach there. Okay, I'm not the one who wrote this book. The aspiration is to reach it.

M. Laitman: You understand that it's possible only by asking? What do you need in order to ask? What are you lacking?

Student: Yes, you connect them. You want to bestow to them. You want to lift them up but you don't have these heroic forces that he's describing, every day, that the Creator is with you even when He drops you. Where do you get that confidence?

M. Laitman: Make efforts to set an example, so they will understand that they have to do like you do. Give them an example. Set an example.

Student: If they don't respond, you see that they don't respond?

M. Laitman: It's not that they are not responding. It's the Creator arranging it in such a way that you will see them as if they're not responding. You should try to feel yourself standing opposite from the Creator, in front of the Creator.

Student: No, but I'm telling you, I'm putting in the effort.

M. Laitman: So what's the problem?

Student: There's no reaction. There's no connection you're talking about. It's not working out. People are growing weak. It's not working as it's written in the book.

M. Laitman: It means you are demanding of the Creator to do something.

Student: Not as it's written here, that He comes and He heals and it's all good. It lasts too long.

M. Laitman: Well, what can you do? Baal HaSulam made a mistake. That's what you're trying to say. Look, we have no choice. We have to try to depict to ourselves the real picture and how much we can get into this real picture. That's it.

Student: How do we awaken Him to help us, in practice, so it could happen?

M. Laitman: Do what you can from your part and turn to Him to help, because it's certain that when you do what you have to do, you will see in this that there is a part that you cannot do. You just can't.

Student: I want to be as it's written, for Him to build a house, to protect the city, to dwell in the impurity but to do it. What's the problem?

M. Laitman: The problem is that you have to participate in this. You have to participate. It's like when you bring a baby some bricks, cubes; and it sits there and cries. Why did it get these bricks and not a complete house? You start building and then see again, and again, and again, and again - that it's not working out this way or that way. When does it turn to his parent? When he sees that he can't. But when should he turn to Him? When he can understand the Creator's answer. If the Creator shows him, you should have done it this way, and you should have put the brick that way, and then it would work out. He has to work a lot before that to develop his mind, his deficiencies to understand the Creator's answers. Do you understand?

Student: Do you see the ones next to me? I want to take care of them. I want to love them, but it's not working.

M. Laitman: Why is it not working out?

Student: I don't know. There's no answer, no answers coming from Him. He's just weakening us and separating between us for months.

M. Laitman: It's probably that you're demanding something of them.

Student: Correct.

M. Laitman: Why?

Student: So, not to ask?

M. Laitman: What should you ask? You should only awaken their hearts as much as you can, and that's it. Why are you coming with demands to anyone? No, no, no, no, no.  Only awaken them. Awaken them. Elevate them, kind of. Lift them up so they'll be more inspired, feel more but without pressure, without pressuring them, without force. Words of the wise are heard in peace, in quiet. It will be okay. In the end, it'll be okay. When? That's a question, but it will work out.

Question (ITA 3): (10:58) What are the states that we need to gather in order to annul before our friends? What are the states, the opportunities that we have to hold on in order to annul before the friends, that I won't run away from them or lose them, because, in this way, I can come close to the state of one, of being with the Creator?

M. Laitman: I should try in my heart, even not physically but, rather, in my heart. Are you hearing this? That's it. In my heart, I want to connect with my friends and to support them so that we will all be as one, in one heart. That's how it's called: as one man in one heart without any external, physical pressure, only by my heart's effort. If I want to perform a spiritual action, I have no other vessels; I can't with my hands, with my feet, or any commands that I will write for them, or any pressure. The pressure has to be from my heart on them - in a negative way, in a positive way, but nothing changed. And by that, I want to activate them in the connection between us and the Creator. Meaning, all in all, I act in the force of love because I want to bring all of us to connection. In the connection, we discover the result in which we can discover the Creator.

Question (ITA 3): (14:26) When the friend is in a descent how can we help a friend to always be present?

M. Laitman: First of all, we should all pray. Ask the Creator that will shine a little bit of upper light to this friend because we pray that we have a deficiency. We become a pipeline through which the upper light comes from the Creator to that friend. That's called, he who prays for his friend merits first, is rewarded first. That's how we should do, first of all. That's it.

Question (UK 2): (15:31) There seems to be, to me, a discrepancy or a contradiction in the article. We start with one who is in adhesion with the Creator, sees that He is present in low places but, later, he says that one first must see that he has a lack. How can one be in Dvekut with the Creator but also finds himself in a place where he has a lack? It seems like, almost, the Creator has given something in advance for free.

M. Laitman: The Creator doesn't have to give anything in advance because to be in adhesion with the Creator is possible for you to the extent that you need nothing. That Dvekut, adhesion, starts when you're like an embryo in the Creator. Meaning, you have nothing to demand, you have no place to demand because your mouth is closed, and you are receiving everything you need in order to exist from the Creator. If you settle for that, only in order to be in connection with the Creator, you're in Ibur. You're in conception in the upper one. Try that.

Student: Yes, but a person has to—you have to work to get to that degree first, before you can even begin to talk about an addition or having a lack that you will pray for. We're already talking about, if you're in a degree. Before you can become aware that the Creator is with you at all times, He's playing this game of showing you all the states, you have to come to adhesion, at least to the form of some small form initially. Is that not correct?

M. Laitman: No. First, you should only know that adhesion, constant adhesion is your goal. At least, for the beginning of the adhesion you want to reach now, and that's only by annulment. Just like being a drop of semen in the womb when you annul yourself and this is why you're there.

Student: What is this lack then that he should pray for? First, one must see he has a lack. If he does not, he should pray for it. Why does not one have it? What is the lack?

M. Laitman: He should have the strength, to have the strength to go into the womb. You've seen these movies where the sperm goes into the womb. What does it come with? It's fighting just to be attached to the upper one, that's all it wants. That's it. All the rest, everything that stands in its way and all the others that are in competition, there are millions of sperms, that's his other desires that are corrupt. He wants to reach in order to bestow and to annul himself with all his force. That's why he can make it. He annuls and attaches to the womb. What is this Dvekut in the womb? The womb is in order to bestow and he—specifically because he fights them all and he comes to that—he gets rid, gets rid on the way, from all his egoistic desires that could be and he is the only one that makes it. All the rest, his egoistic desires, don't make it; and that's how he adheres and starts developing. That's what we need.

Question (Florida): (20:20) This is about the suffering; you talked a lot about it in the introduction and what does this suffering of the Creator do for me? I know you said that you equated it to our parents in this world, how they suffer. I know that because of my dad used to say, “This hurts me more than it hurts you,” but I didn't feel that. I didn't feel that it hurt my dad more than it hurt me. I didn't feel his suffering. How can the Creator suffer when He created us and He knows the outcome. He knows that everything's going to be okay.

M. Laitman: The Creator's suffering and the fact that He's above time—you can say that, maybe, that's one excuse or reason, but the other reason is that the Creator is the degree of Bina and that's in wholeness even though it's completely in deficiency. We can't understand this but one day we will find out. We'll discover that the spiritual degree, even though it's completely in deficiency, it's nonetheless in wholeness. How can these two things coexist? We will understand this. We'll discover it, that, specifically, the greatest deficiencies appear towards the final correction and you can only complement them by rising above them to faith above reason, to adhesion with the Creator. In our world, we have to solve the problems in the same place where the deficiency is. In the spiritual world, we solve problems above the place the deficiency appears, meaning in the degree of bestowal above it.

Question (Bulgaria 1): (23:05) What commandments is the article speaking about?

M. Laitman: Only the commandments of connection, of love, nothing more than that. That we have only one Mitzva, one commandment. We have only one commandment just as Baal HaSulam writes in the article “One Commandment,” one Mitzva.

Student: How can we reach recognition of the right deficiency if my ego conceals the truth?

M. Laitman: The ego doesn't conceal the truth. There are no things in the world that are disturbing. Everything is an aid. We have to overcome them to discover the truth and that's, simply, something they have to do to disturb me, so that I will discover, so that I will understand the truth.

Question (Moscow 6): (24:25) How can we see that the Creator is lowering Himself if we're building the Creator?

M. Laitman: We, first of all, are talking about the upper light being in complete rest and, from the final state of filling the entire reality, He bestows upon us—that's with respect to the upper light. With respect to the Creator—that You build Him, you make Him out of you building or making of the upper light, the force called Creator, so, you build it within yourself—that's something else. Meaning, Creator means, Bo u-Reh [come and see], when you build the force of bestowal, connection, love. That's what you discover according to the extent that you can build Him in your vessels. But above them, that we have the upper light and that created the entire reality; it's sustaining the entire reality. That's not the same. That's not the Creator, Boreh. The Creator is with respect to you, but the upper light, as it's in complete rest, that's above the Creator. It depends what you're talking about. Don't be confused between the two.

Question (USA SF): (26:18) In the article, it said that someone has to see he has a deficiency, and if he doesn't, he has to pray for it. Why doesn't he have one? He didn't have a deficiency because he didn't have awareness about it. What is the reason there's a diminution of awareness?

M. Laitman: It's when a person cannot discover all the conditions to reveal the Creator on his own, to relate to the Creator even in the right way, in the whole way. Rather, he has to be in this tendency towards connection in his group. You have to discover what he has in favor or against the connection between them. They can make a list even; this is what we're lacking in the connection between us and this is what we're attaining, bit by bit. That's how they can examine themselves in a practical way and then, bit by bit, it will become clear to them where they are.

Question (KabU 7): (27:34) I want to know why is it so hard for us to remember or to feel that He's the good that only does good? Why is that so hard? Is this what the will to receive is?

M. Laitman: Our problem is that we confuse the mind and the emotion. We're willing, in our minds, to accept that the Creator is the good that does good; but when the emotion comes and it's not exactly the good that does good, so, that erases everything for us. That's why all these spiritual concepts, we can truly accept them, feel them, locate them, establish them, only in the connection between us, because when everyone adds something to the sum-total of the group, by that, we build a concept in the group that doesn't disappear anymore. We hold it like when you hold a ball in the air. When ten people stand, ten friends stand and they play with the ball and each one is trying to pass on the ball in a nice way, in a good way, and then you can be sure the ball will never fall. This is the way we have to care and be concerned about holding ourselves all the time, and by that we're holding the group.

Question (MAK 6): (29:34) In the end, Baal HaSulam writes that He brings into such a low state that the wicked one doesn't want to remain in such a way. The Creator is forcing a person to run away from the low state but, before that, we said that we have to take every state as if it's the best state. What is the right effort in the low state? To ask for it to change or to ask to agree with it?

M. Laitman: We should, in each and every state, to try to be connected to each other. To the extent that we scrutinize the connection between us, how much, how good it is, to that extent, we can already understand how purposeful this connection is. That's how we'll advance.

Question (Zafon 2): (30:45) In what vessels inside of us can we count on the Creator?

M. Laitman: In what vessels inside of us we can count on the Creator? The connection between us we can count on the Creator, because only this way we discover Him.

Question (Zafon 2): (31:14) What is there in the connection between us that can bring Him to us, that we can see Him?

M. Laitman: Building the vessel in between us, common Kli, common vessel, so, in the connection between all our opposite qualities, however, they're all in the connection which is above the contradiction in them, we establish the Creator. The Creator is, as we say, come and see. We build Him. How do we build Him? By wanting to connect between us even though we're all opposite. We all hate each other. We're all pushing each other away but, above that, we want to connect. Then, this way, we have coarseness—when we hate, when we push away; and purity when we, nonetheless, want to be connected in order to give Him contentment, above our nature. Then, we build this state, we call come and see. “Come” is the coarseness and “see” is seeing—that's Zakut, that's purity or cleansing. That's how we discover Him.

Question (Karmiel): (32:51) The Creator brings us to a low state. Recognition, awareness of the state—that it's such—that also comes from the Creator or is that a result of our work?

M. Laitman: Everything comes from the Creator. Everything is only revealed of Him. That's all I can say.

Reader: In the next part of the lesson, we're going to learn Pticha, the “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah,” item 92, which is from the date the 13th of August 2006.
