Part 3:
The 15th of Av: the Day of Love - Selected Excerpts from the Sources. #16
1. R. (00:26) What can I say, we have a special day every year called ‘the day of love’, the fifteenthh of the month of Av, that we really see how many stages we have to go through before that in order to reach this day, at least on behalf of our learning. So let us hope we understand the essence of this day, the essence of spiritual love, how we reach it, how we keep it and as much as we can, make more efforts to come closer to it, so, The Day of Love.
Reading 16 (00:17 - 09:52) Twice
2. S. (10:03) Why is he saying that unconditional love depends on my recognizing the relation of a person that I am checking with others because it is unconditional?
R. So how can you determine?
S. I don't understand?
R. How can you determine which measure of love is in man?
S. If I want to know how much I love a person, should I check his relationship with other people, with the rest of the people?
R. Yes, correct?
S. But why then it is it unconditional, it is as if I'm calculating or checking?
R. You check, you calculate, okay so, how without doing a calculation?
S. Well, like a mother and a baby, she doesn't calculate she loves, naturally it is like that.
R. And what does that give us that that's what we see on the mother, the complete unconditional love.
S. The question is what is the benefit?
R. Before and after calculation?
S. And why does he call it, ‘unconditional’?
R. That, I guess, is like the mother.
S. (11:53) He writes that he knows his dealings and conducts with every person, none missing and checks that not only is there no flaw in them, but his goodness is endless. So my love for that person depends on all of that person's relationship with the rest of the people and to all of that, he calls it unconditional, it is unclear, it is the opposite, it is conditional. I have to see that he does good to the whole world and he also talks about the Creator and in the end he says that it is unconditional.
R. Yes.
S. So how can you…?
R. Because there's nothing else to check, it is clear that his attitude towards everyone is complete love.
S. And if it weren't like that I wouldn't love him?
R. Of course.
S. So why is it considered unconditional?
R. Because there is no condition to put it on, what he shows everyone is complete love.
3. S. (13:17) Maybe to continue, how can we see all of the actions of the friend or the actions of the Creator to the whole world?
R. That is impossible.
S. So what Baal HaSulam writes here is impossible?
R. I don't know, the Creator opens things up to whoever needs it and whoever doesn't, he doesn't open it for him.
S. Okay let's assume he opened it and let's see and his actions in my senses so I need to fit within reason or what?
R. If the Creator opens things up for you so you see the Creators attitude towards man or the relationships between people.
S. But, do I have to see with my senses that the Creator is good to everyone?
R. But your senses are in the hands of the Creator so what is the question.
S. Is there an element of work above reason here? To see one thing and Rise Above It?
R. The moment the Creator starts taking care of you it is all above reason, it's in the reason of the Creator.
4. S. (14:39) Is faith above reason the same as unconditional love or does it supersede above unconditional love?
R. Unconditional love is greater, that is we reach it through faith. It is the highest degree is love.
5. S. (15:34) In the last paragraph it says that these measures of love that apply between the friends also apply to the Creator. My question is, the two loves that are described here, are they about the basic level, natural level, in the final degree that is attributed to the Creator? That's a degree of Keter with the biggest coarseness, Keter and Hochma?
R. I don't want to determine that now, what do we need that for? Why should we connect elements of reception to feelings, no.
6. S. (16:50) What does it mean that I check, exam and observe?
R. You want to know what state you are when compared to the Creator?
S. Yes, but if I make all these calculations how can it be unconditional love, because I'm testing it I'm checking it I do everything, and I see what I see?
R. No, you test along with the Creator. He becomes, he comes together and becomes your partner, a real partner.
S. In other words I see through the Creator's eyes and not my eyes?
R. Let us say so, there is a connection here.
7. S. (17:50) I want to relate to the first measure he writes here he says before he knew and began to love one another they did harm to each other, but they do not want to remember it because love will cover all crimes. Can you explain what is happening here?
R. You want to erase the past and build a present and future according to a new type of calculation.
S. So is this real love? If in the ten, we do all the work that he writes here, that is what we have to do, meaning if I want to connect to the friend in the ten, I need all kinds of problems to be caused so I can cover them with love? What does he mean?
R. You must, if you want to have a new calculation towards a friend, you have to forget everything that was there in the past and start working a new.
S. So the love you are talking about is real love here?
R. Yes,yes because obviously in the path we are all complete wicked and in the future we are to be complete righteous.
8. S. (19:14) First of all the words are beautiful for turning this day into a day of love. In the ten we make a lot of efforts to come to love one another. My question is, how to fall in love with the friends in the ten?
R. Try and feel how we are in one desire, in one of vessel, in one thought, in one body, and one Creator. That will all together and all these divisions between us, and the shatterings that we fee,l it all just seems that way to us in our shattered vessels. To the extent that we correct ourselves we can discover ourselves closer and closer to one another and there is no difference between us, there is no distance between us, and all of the feelings, and calculations and qualities, and whatever happens it'll all connect as one man with one heart.
S. Is this called falling in Love?
R. That is called falling in Love. Falling in love truly is that there is no difference between the two, but they are working as one man with one heart.
S. So it means that we clean up all the stigmas that we have about what it means to fall in love that a person has it's emotion. It sounds like something very methodical?
R. Let it be that way, the main thing is to come closer.
S. What is the eternal love?
R. Eternal love I cannot tell you, because it's limit, that we call it eternal. I have never felt it and we have to reach it we have to reach it.
9. S. (21:39) This is my favorite subject, the subject of love. For us to really walk in the ten, is this the real goal, to give each other unconditional love? How do we practicalize it so that we understand that all the flaws that we have to over come, it's really the gift to reach unconditional love
R. I think it has something very unique and worthy to disseminate broadly, that in the end we all need to acquire the quality of love. In a way that it will open us and bring us closer together in a whole way and specifically the day that is a day love, we need to understand and also make a calculation, so what really is the day of love, the light of love, the feeling of love. As much as we need to be dependent and connected towards one another and that there is no distance between us, but a very deep understanding from the heart, from heart to heart, that all of the barriers between us can be annulled and the Creator will help us in that according to our demands and we will reach a state that will truly be as one man with one heart It is difficult to imagine it, we are completely opposite of it, but along with that we are close to it, we are close to it.
10. S. (24:25) How can we truly determine that there is no difference between our desires anymore?
R. I don't think we have to reach a state where between our desires there will not be any differences because there will still be each one has a different root and just as no one is similar to the other, also one love is not like the others love, it just completes and in this way we need to incorporate, but in this incorporation we will exactly reach that connection that wonderful connection that we attain and each one right away will feel that this is the connection that has to be between everybody to everybody. That we do not feel the externality according to color or all kinds of other conditions, but that we only feel how good it is for us, for each and every one of us, to relate to the other one with unconditional love. It is not that I feel the other, I feel myself that I'm opening my heart with no limitations towards the others. That is actually the correct attitude.
11. S. (26:23) Can it be that love it's like Arvut, mutual responsibility? If there are two friends for example in the ten who do not love each other, so I too will not be able to love someone else in the ten, so we are all dependent on each other in the ten, where everyone must make efforts in love?
R. That is correct. if one person brings in his lack of agreement his poison, his dirt into the general vessel so everyone starts feeling it and it disturbs everyone. Love has to be without any calculation, above all the calculations. I think that we feel it and that we are on the way towards it.
12. S. (27:30) You said I checked myself through this love, in what state I am in toward the Creator. What is the right way to check it?
R. We can't measure ourselves or check ourselves compared to the Creator, but we do it through the others from the love of the created beings to the love of the Creator. That is what is written and only in that way, by me knowing and feeling all of his creation, by this I come closer to him and love him. First it has to be the love of the others, the love of the creative beings, and as much as I thank him for them, for bringing them closer to me, and teaching me how to love them, the created beings in this way I come closer to the Creator that there can't be love of the Creator without the love of the created beings, but only after them, as a result of them.
13. S. (29:07) In the excerpt the idea that the conditions are ideal they do good to each other or he sees it that he's only giving to the whole world so it is easy to love, but what should we hang the reason to love for with respect to the friends?
R. I don't understand in what can we hang…?
S. I mean we are regular people we do not have these conditions for love, so when we come to love the friends, why do I love them? For what reason, I do not have these ideal conditions?
R. And what would you want to have?
S. I'd like it to be easier for me to love, so that my heart would open more quickly, so that if I see someone so good who does only good to me and to the whole world, it would be easy for me to love them.
R. So what would be so heavy the weight of love, if it would be so easy?
S. Well I don't know, that is what I understand from the excerpt, that he sees that he is good to him and good to all the people and even if you do something bad, that you don't want to remember it, but the work in the ten we do not have these conditions, so or what am I supposed to love the friends, real love, not just pray to connect for connection, but to really love them?
R. To truly love them you can under the condition that you see that without them you will not reach the degree of love of the Creator.
S. So this is not connecting to love, it's like I want to get something through them?
R. It it It doesn't matter, it is love.
S. What would open the door for me?
R. We always work from each one's will to receive, madam what are you living in the clouds?
S. Okay so fine, I’ll be nice, I’ll do things, I'll pray, I'll have my own interest, I'll do what I'm told I have to do to hope to get it, but where is my heart? Say with my child I will give him the whole world in a second, but how do you even get close to something like that?
R. That is also called love of the Creator, that you keep perform the love of the Creator, that he lets you love the child.
S. So what should I put into my heart or mind in order to start getting closer to such things toward people who are strangers to me?
R. That you are all parts of one vessel, and everyone belongs to one Creator and one destiny and that you do not have any way to run away from this role that you've got and only to implement it, only to implement it.
14. S. (32:51) How can we come to absolute love toward the ten?
R. Only by understanding that without the love of the created beings I will not be able to reach the love of the Creator and that is why I have no choice. I must reach the love of the Creator beings. That is the work. That is the work to pray to do all kinds of actions until we understand that we can't and then we outburst, and demand from the Creator to give it to us, to give it to us otherwise I'd rather be dead than alive. Let's hope that one of the two can work out either death or love.
S. So it turns out that over time the feeling takes the first place and the intellect takes the second place, so what does it mean you have to feel with the heart and move the intellect aside?
R. That is how we work mind and feeling every time they interchange.
15. S. (34:58) I'd like to share it is not exactly a question. I'd like to share with the group. Yesterday evening we had a workshop concerning love a friends we learned, we read letter number 40 by Rabash and we felt such unbelievable feelings. The topic made us think to the wee hours of the night we were discussing it. How to give a friend not what I want to give him but what she wants, the ego doesn't understand it, but the reception of the present it is understood that not to give the gift itself, but the very fact that the friend wants to give them the gift. So we came to the conclsion that only opening our hearts can help us come closer to each other understand each other and from the love of friends to come to the love of the Creator. Thank you very much.
R. Meaning we connect and love towards the Creator and there we find one another and our mutual connection between us.
16. S. (36:35) Throughout the way it seems like what we are thinking is incorrect and inaccurate. Is there something that we that can prove that we even exist, that we are not a program? Everything is upside down.
R. A program, a software does not exist.
S. While the software is something practical, but it is like I have no control, on the contrary everything I am is opposite.
R. And that is the truth, that is the truth, yes.
S. Does it exist? Does it exist in the physical world or is it all imaginary?
R. No, the imaginary is the physical world.
17. S. (27:29) I wanted to ask about the work that is conditiona. He says that love will cover all crimes. I didn't understand what to do with the bad qualities that he says they don't want to remember them, what does it mean that love will cover all crimes? What do you do with what he describes here that they do not want to remember them?
R. They don't want to remember all of the relationships that were between them when they didn't understand each other correctly, that is why they were in opposite in this one towards the other, but now that they are in an understanding that there is nothing between them except for love and a tight connection between them, so they do not want to remember, they can't even invite those states that used to be between them in the past.
S. In other words love will cover all crimes. It is not like I make an effort to forget the crimes, but an additional force should come that will change my feeling?
R. Yes even if you want to go back to some crimes, you couldn’t, you could not keep them in anything.
S. I didn't understand what he describes in the first and second measures and the conditional love they sound the same to me can you explain the difference?
R. Read it and what do you see?
S. It says that the first measure is that before they met each other they did harm to each other, but they do not want to remember them because love will cover all crimes. That is the first measure, and the second measure is that they have always done good and helped one another and there is no trace of harm between them, so what exactly is the difference between the first and second measures? In both cases there was something bad between them and in both cases they cannot remember them? That is how I understand the text.
R. Read it again Moshe.
Reading 16. (39:50) Again.
R. Let’s say you have two people. One thinks that he was always in love towards the other and the other one says, no I sometimes used to argue with them and we had all these arguments, so what are you asking?
S. But they don't remember them, in the first measure because love covers the crime in the end, so if there was nothing then. What does it mean that it is conditional?
R. That's the whole thing, this coverage that sometimes there is a cover and sometimes you do not need the cover, that is the beauty about it.
S. But here it is the first and second measures within conditional love?
R. Yes. If now they would reveal the evil that was between them, would that love be harmed?
S. Yes.
R. And if it wasn't harmed?
S. If it weren't, that it wouldn't be conditional, but here he clarifies the measures within conditional love because in the end he says that there are four measures. Because it is two with two within each one. Here we are inside the conditional love, one it is that something needs covering.
R. There was evil revealed and they covered it. If the evil will be revealed but not covered, does the evil remain?
S. I guess.
R. So this means that there is not two, but four possibilities. We will read it at home and tomorrow we will continue with the day of love. You agree?
