Baal HaSulam - What Is the Exaltedness of the Creator?

2.Rav’s Introduction: Ultimately what we have to do is replace the force that is working on us right now, which is the will to receive, our ego, which is operating us, with another force, the force of the Creator, the force of love and bestowal instead of the force of reception. When we do it, to the extent that we do it, we are considered corrected and spiritual, and accordingly we begin to feel reality, the spiritual reality, new upper reality, and so on and so forth. What we have before us is to replace the control of the ego with the control of the Creator; they are both ready and are working on us. Except the force of our ego is working on us from the beginning and the Creator, only according to how much we need it, we want it to control us. We have to understand that from the very beginning one of the two is working. It's not that we are free somehow, it's either one or the other. By the evil inclination goes against the purpose of creation or the good inclination that is for the purpose of creation. From the very beginning the will to receive is working on us and then us the evil inclination, is opposite to the purpose of creation, we are accustomed to it and we think that this is who we are, ourselves. To such an extent that we were born with it and we were accustomed to it and we can't imagine how you can get rid of it. Rather, the will to bestow grows in us, gradually the point in the heart that is beginning to show its actions, we begin to see and feel that it's not good that there's something else that our lives are not good, we want to reach something new, something different. The Creator arranges for us such states from which we will truly yearn for his desire, desire to bestow on the one hand and on the other hand why did he do it this way. All of our reality is made up of these two opposite qualities so we can learn one against the other. Just as we discussed yesterday nothing is attained in our perception except from its opposite. Black over white, white over black that's how it is with all our feelings and thoughts and understandings. You can't do anything unless there is something that goes against it. We measure things relative to that we feel it relative to that and whatever we create and grasp and understand it's always made of two. Except at the end of our development we have to reach awareness the exaltedness of the Creator, so it's clear to us that in parallel to that we have to feel it's opposite qualities as well. Anyone who is greater than his friend as great as he is in recognizing the Creator, his inclination is greater, his evil inclination that is opposite the Creator is also great accordingly and they exist in parallel to one another and they rise together, they grow together from man's first degree. The beginning of his spiritual path all the way to the end, where all of reality is revealed as simply a thing and its opposite and at the end of the path when a person gives this correctly all of his evil inclination that is opposite the Creator. Then the evil inclination also becomes a helper to the good inclination and both of them come and connect together and bring to the person this mutual discernment between them. We'll talk about it one day but the main thing for us is to know that everything is founded on a thing and it's opposite, left and right one cannot exist without the other, one it exists on top of the other. Otherwise, we would not be able to discern even one thing if there was not a thing and its opposite. There are states when we can't feel that there is something that opposes the state wherein but it exists, otherwise we would not be able to identify the current state and it is in all degrees on all levels of our development. 

As it's written, as the advantage of light out of darkness. We have another short article that Baal HaSulam spoke and Rabash wrote from Shamati. What is the exaltedness of the Creator? Where if we reach the recognition and the understanding of the Creator, we come to it on top of the opposite qualities. Understanding and recognition of our will to receive. What we refer to as the evil inclination, because it seemingly interferes with our efforts to attain the Creator to know Him. By doing it seemingly in this opposite way that doesn't let us approach the Creator we call it the evil inclination, the hater, the one who rejects and confuses and doesn't let us approach the concept of the Creator neither in feeling or in intellect. Later, as we go up the degrees, we understand more and more that it has this job to do, our ego and it's not doing it but it is actually an instrument in the hands of the upper force. From where the good force comes also the evil force comes as the Creator says, I have created the evil inclination why, because without it you will not be able to recognize the good inclination and you cannot recognize bestowal without reception. 

Article 14 (09:46)   What Is the Exaltedness of the Creator? Twice

2. R. (14:10) Let's try to understand it a bit more. 

3. S. (14:17) From where does the upper intellect come, what does it mean the upper intellect comes from above?

R. In truth also the lower intellect comes from above everything comes from above but it is all about our appreciation it comes from the upper one or from nature, also nature is the Creator it comes from above but we just refer to it this way. We expect the upper intellect, the upper feeling to come and we speak in these terms. But that which comes from the Creator according to our labor, our request, our preparation, we say that this comes from above. Because that's how we feel it, that's how we understand it and that which comes without our preparation rather by itself we say this is from nature. It's seemingly in us not like we have to toil, in advance and that's why we don't ascribe it to the upper force but in truth it all comes from Him. Except either it comes according to Nature as we say, or it is preceded by our labor and our work. 

4. S. (16:05) I'm assuming the article is only for those with points in the heart so I don't understand what it means that you have to go above reason?

R. What is it that you have to go above reason. We have one form of nature, we are in one form of nature and the Creator who created us with the will to receive. How do we get to it, we learn in the wisdom of Kabbalah all the lights and the vessels cascaded from the upper world the world of Ein Sof through all the Partzufim until they came to Nekudot of SAG that we learned in the Preface the day before yesterday. And from Nekudot of SAG there was the place of the shattering and then the worlds of Atzilut, Beria, Yetzirah and Assiya are emanated and in them the soul exists, meaning a desire exists in them and it exists there in a broken way meaning in order to receive and it has to be corrected to be in order to bestow. Where we have to participate in that correction and as much as we correct ourselves, we raise ourselves from the degree of the worlds of Assiya, Yetzira, Beria, to the world of Atzilut and that's how we come to correction. Meaning identify with the Creator, the same degree as He is. That's our work so it turns out that we are born in the will to receive a broken desire meaning in order to receive. And we have to correct ourselves so that the desire to receive in order to receive we need to correct it in the will to receive in order to bestow. We cannot come out of this desire, we exist in it, this is our nature unchanging. We don't need to fight directly with the will to receive to want less to and to have a strict spiritual diet, we don't have to worry about that enough to diminish myself in any physical actions unless it somehow to the detriment of others. 

Rather than general I need to change my calculation, the direction of my thinking. Or more correctly in tuning my intention or the direction of my intention, why do I do each and everything in the world, all the way to why am I even alive. That is the correction, that's what we need. If I am activated by my nature, my first nature where I was born this way and I developed in this way this means that I am inside the evil inclination, the egoistic desire, which exists in me from the day I was born and is constantly developing in me and I know it. This nature is me, my “I” and I am not running away from it because there is nowhere for me to run away. 

The average person doesn't even understand what we are talking about but there are such people with such a feeling in the desire the desire is called the heart. There are people who refer to the point in the heart and they begin to feel that there is something additional, a different form of existence in this different form of existence it's attractive to them. Then they want to attain what it means to exist in a different dimension. Of course, I don't do anything by themselves but the upper force brings them as it's written, the Creator puts a person's hand on the good fortune and says take it, brings him to a choice and says choose what is the good fortune in order to obtain the quality of bestowal, to attain it and that's how we advance. 

We are all born in the will to receive for ourselves in order to receive and it's called man's inclination is evil from his youth. Then we advance towards in order to bestow and the desire to receive in order to bestow. Meaning we don't replace the desire, we replace the intention. What does it mean, the intention? Who do we honor, the will to receive or the will to bestow. Who is important in our eyes? All of our work is to extol the matter of bestowal and raise it and that's how we advance. 

5. S. (23:21) The fear that the will to receive might control me, might defeat me and I will lose my way on the path, can this be called fear of the Creator?

R. We will learn about fear of the Creator. Trepidation, it's not so clear there are many deferments there, the fear of the Creator can come from a physical later level where you can't even see that you're working but rather you carry out Nature’s command out of fear for your existence. Where you're supposed to have survival until you rise higher when you went to beyond the fear of the Creator and not inside your egoistic fear and there is a fear of the Creator you also have degrees why, what for how much and all of it is measured according to the will to receive that works through you.

6. S. (24:56) We make many efforts that are against the desire. So how do I know that now I'm actually going above reason?

R. A person who acquires a feeling of above reason, he feels accordingly that he is under the dominion of the upper force and the degree of the control of the upper force in him depends on how devoted a person is to this upper force. He has a feeling of adhesion and the upper force, the upper force wishes to be in him, wishes to enter him and be in him like an embryo inside its mother and these are the first degrees of annulment of a person toward the Creator. Accordingly, we measure the degree of faith he has above reason. Because he himself exists in his will to receive and the will to receive is not yet refined only its control begins to be covered with the control of the will to bestow where Bina begins to dominate the Malchut and that's it, that's how a person grows. As much as Bina, the quality of bestowal grows in us on top of the quality of reception, we can say that the Creator and is greater than our beast on the degree of Adam, of man, is greater than and on top of the animate degree and that's how we advance, that's how we grow. 

7. S. (27:27) What is the difference between the force of Bina and the Romemut?

R. According to the force of Bina we attain and practice the exaltedness of the Creator because the force of the Bina is the force of the Creator.

8. S. (28:02) Can it be said that the exaltedness of the Creator is a person discovering that the upper force is opposite from the will to receive and his efforts to rise in this?

R. That too, both opposite and higher, more preferred, more whole. Spirituality is something that we build by ourselves as the Creator says you have made me, now what does that mean? That above all the physical states, the physical discernments we build the Creator specifically by raising the force of bestowal above the force of reception, there are many discernments in the force of reception. Many forms and in the form of bestowing, we only use it to cover the force of reception and then from that we learn the Creator. Therefore, the Creator is called Boreh, come and see, why? How do you attain him? By covering everything so crimes will be covered by love so this form of connection and love that you learned that it covers according to how capable you are of doing it, covers all those forms of reception in you from that you attain the Creator. It will be clear to us that from here there's no Creator without a created being that the Creator is only what exists relative to us. We build what we attain is what exists and not above it and what we build through our 6000 years of corrections as we call it the path of corrections, we are ultimately building the Creator who covers our ego our will to receive. Later there are additional degrees, we are not talking about them right now, we cannot understand them. It will come, we are not parting ways, our path together is longer than you think. Not only in this life. 

9. S. (31:06) What does it mean that he wants the Creator to answer his questions?

R. I want the Creator to answer my questions, who am I, what am I, why do I exist, what is the benefit of all of this, what is this life all about, what is my origin, what is my destination, all those things, I need them. The main thing is I want to recognize the upper force, to get to know him in order to use him to bring the corrections from him, to clothe within those corrections my ego so it will appear like a wolf and a sheepskin and that's the main thing here for the evil inclination to turn it into the good inclination. That's how we need to see our corrections. 

10. S. (32:23) We gathered in the 10 and we're trying to connect, what does it mean in this connection the Creator answers our questions?

R. We have to first of all believe that the Kabbalists who wrote this way that the Creator is connected to the connection between us and that he exists in the center of the group. On the other hand, we have to believe that what is happening to us, between us in the center of the group, that is what is accepted on a higher level. Called the Creator, it's a matter of degrees, the ladder of degrees, so above us there is a higher degree that we have to climb to, then another one and another one and we will always be faced with commands, lights, various signs, awakenings from a higher degree. So, we need to try and establish a connection with the higher degree and be incorporated in it. 

In the connection with the higher degree, we attain that through the exaltedness of the higher degree. On the higher degree relative to the lower degree is always called the Creator relative to the created beings because we came down from Infinity in degrees Galgata AB SAG down to this world 5 worlds, five Partzufim in each world and five Sefirot inside of each part of 5 * 5 * 5 125 degrees in total. That's how we also climb back on these degrees. So, a higher degree relative to a lower degree is called the Creator first of all because it begat the lower degree and cascades from above down. Also, because we can climb it back up to it and each time Boreh, come and see, we climb to a higher degree we attain it, we see it, we become like it and then you can climb to an even higher degree. That's how we advance.

S. There is our 10 during the lesson, what's different in each degree of the 125° compared to how I feel now?

R. For each ten there is a thread that comes down from Ein Sof to it, and in this thread, we need to climb all the way to Ein Sof, to the end of correction and there is a thread for each 10 there is a thread that comes down from Infinity to it and this thread, to climb all the way to Infinity and all the way to the end of correction. So, if we keep what Kabbalists are telling us, we will rise each time from degree to degree and this ascent is from Malchut to Bina to Malchut to Bina, every lower degree is called Malchut relative to the upper degree called Bina and that's how we rise. Therefore, the force of ascent is called faith and the force of bestowal Bina above reason, above Malchut above the force to receive, meaning practically speaking as much as we prefer, the will to bestow, connection among the friends so we'll we can climb from Malchut to Bina, from a lower degree to a higher degree and there's the connection between the degrees.

11. S. (37:40) It's mentioned here that the will to receive understands that it's worthwhile to keep Torah and Mitzvot. What is the difference between seeing the exaltedness of the Creator within the will to receive and seeing it above reason?

R. To feel, well you could say to see but it's not material vision. To feel the greatness of the Creator within the will to receive directly is psychology and if we discover it in this way, it is regarded as revealing him within reason and this is called being religious. People who believe, you have billions of such people in the world, there is no attainment here. There is some inner conviction that we are in this type of connection with the Creator with the upper Force. If we are talking about the attainment of Kabbalists then we are already saying that we change, people change, that they achieve the power of Bina within them. Then they feel within them how the force, this power of Bina is revealed, this new nature, the power of bestowal, love, connection which becomes higher greater more preferable more value than the force of reception. This is called being in faith above reason. In our articles especially, we learn how we can prefer the power of bestowal above reception. Faith above reason. So, look at what he writes. 

12. S. (40:35) In this article Baal HaSulam speaks of the need a person has for the Creator when he feels empty with the help of what can we empty ourselves to such an extent that we truly need the Creator?

R. If I am operated through my yearning for the Creator or the foundation, the basis of our yearning for the Creator is called the point in the heart. When I feel that it attracts me, it is calling me, where to I don't know and who does it, I don't know. But I want to know the essence of life, the purpose of life, where I am from and where I am going. What happens with a person in general in this life, questions that awaken in many people, except afterwards they disappear. Actually, in childhood and adolescence they concern people a lot, children. Then hormones come and all kinds of things, all the nonsense of the world, it distracts people's attention from the right questions. What am I for, why am I here? This is how it works, but those people who cannot drop their points in the hearts which pull them to contact with the Creator, they don't know that this is the way it is, that it is towards contact with the Creator and they come to the wisdom of Kabbalah, nevertheless. 

Then they come to a state where they work according to their own intellect, according to what they see in this world, what is called the rational approach, it is a joke that it is called this way as if we are rational beings. We see how we operate all over the world, where is there any rationality here? Ratio is the intellect, it is thinking. But we can't decide anything rationally if we don't know the future and connect ourselves to the future and then by seeing the present and the future, we can take some steps forward towards the future, when we see it and understand it and have some kind of a grip on it then it's regarded as working rationally. But if we don't have any grip on this future and what rational rationality can there be in what we do and how we live in and how we work but that's how we call it. That if we rely only on our ego's which don't see what will happen a moment later, sometimes we see we're going into bad things but still can't stop ourselves. We see this today in everything we do, that we are working incorrectly, we are destroying our planet Earth, destroying our lives, we're moving towards wars, problems and whatnot, are we stopping ourselves, no we are worse than animals. 

Because animals are not working this way, they stop immediately according to what they see as dangerous and they don't move forward. But we do, because our evil inclination is higher than ourselves, it comes from above and it dictates to us what we should do and we follow its orders instead of the orders of the animal within us. This is why we are destroying the planet, destroying the world even though it jeopardizes our future. This is called working out of this false rationality, from within reason as if there is any reason within it. Above reason means that we accept the will of the Creator, the approach of the Creator and begin to act accordingly. Acting according to the will of the Creator means that we appreciate acts of bestowing more than acts of reception. That Bina governs Malchut and not that we with the Malchut with the will to receive suppress the qualities of Bina, the inclination to bestow. If we learn in our society which we built especially to raise the quality of bestowal, to value the quality of bestowing more than reception this is regarded as one thing to exist in faith in the power of Bina, the power of bestowing which is above reason above the egoistic will to receive, that's it. This is called faith above reason and to the extent that we elevate the level of Bina above the level of the Malchut, the will to bestow being above or respected in our eyes, in our will to receive, this is regarded as building the exaltedness of the Creator. As much as the Creator, the degree of Bina is higher and greater than our eyes than the degree of Malchut.

S. In the beginning when you started to explain it you told us how Kabbalists make decisions and he sees the present state, the future state and he connects the two together and ties it with the Creator with what's happening in the world. Kabbalists each and every given moment he ties every step.

R. This is today we always have to add today in our time. When we are in the last generation and therefore, we have to direct our actions towards the end of correction. When we connect among ourselves in order to set an example to the rest of humanity, it will join us and advance along with us in the direction that we determine. Because they have no direction, they don't know they don't have the same inner vessels, the inner tools but the power, the thrust that we will receive from them because they are suffering. Those who are suffering will pressure us. They won't pressure us in a sense that they come to us but we through our will to bestow that we are developing will want to help to save them to give contentment to the Creator in order and to save the created beings and we are in between them. They will pressure us and we will want to deliver them and by this bring contentment to the Creator. This whole chain will work properly and by this the world will advance towards correction.

13. S. (49:52) What does it mean that we press the form of Bina with the Malchut?

R. We prefer the quality of the will to bestow to the quality of the will to receive, we have two options within us and we always wanted to use the will to bestow. The desire to connect on top of the desire to receive, the desire to move apart. 

14. R. (50:41) Rav reads: What is the exaltedness of the Creator, the exaltedness of the Creator that one should ask the Creator to give him the strength to go above reason. In other words, the person turns to the Creator and asks him to give me the possibility to go above my intellect, my will to receive, to the desire to bestow. To be constantly connected to you through the friends, this is called engaging in the exaltedness of the Creator because the Creator is above the whole world, the 10 and there is a connection between all of us and the Creator and he, the Creator pulls us up. This means that there are two interpretations to the exaltedness of the Creator. One is not to be filled with knowledge, meaning I don't want to know, to receive, why, which is intellect with which one can answer one’s questions. Why? Because if I answer within reason, I limit it through what I am, through my intellect. Rather he wants the Creator to answer his questions. Rather this person wants the Creator to answer his questions. How? However, the Creator decides, that's it. You find that this is called exaltedness when a person cancels himself and wants the Creator to control his mind and heart. Because all the wisdom comes from above and not from a man. This is why it's called exaltedness. Because by this he elevates the Creator above himself. Meaning that one can answer one question. But he isn't doing it, he wants the Creator to answer all his questions so that our questions come from the Creator, we think we imagine that they are our own but we ourselves turn to the Creator and say you will answer our questions. Not that I will search according to my intellect. 

It turns out that this is called exaltedness because all the intellect comes from above and not from the person, meaning that one can answer one’s own questions. Anything that one can answer is regarded as answering everything from the external mind. This means that the will to receive understands that it is worthwhile to observe Mitzvot, Commandments. Commandments means this whole process where we want to develop. However, if the above reason compels one to work, what work. It is called against the opinion of the will to receive, in other words I don't want to answer anything with my mind and heart. Rather I am willing to follow the recommendation of Kabbalists who are telling me the thoughts and desires of the Creator and in this way, I prepare myself for the Creator himself to satisfy all of my doubts and questions. Okay, this is the exaltedness of the Creator, when I want the Creator to answer my questions instead of me doing it with my intellect. Number two, the greatness of the Creator means that becomes needy of the Creator to grant his wishes, meaning I develop in me, a deficiency each time. It's not like I live in whatever happens, no. I constantly turn to the Creator, it's called raising MAN when I constantly turn to the Creator and ask him. To answer all the questions, all the doubts, all the problems, everything that I feel. In my mind and heart that I have any questions, even the slightest I want the Creator to answer it, to satisfy it, what does that mean? 

It means that I want the Creator to control me and govern me, to satisfy all my deficiencies, all the problems, all the questions. All of my vessels. I have such deficiencies in me in all kinds of states and all kinds of ways, manners, meanings and I want the Creator to fill them all up with him. That's it and then I'll know exactly from where my questions come, why, for what purpose and as a result I will advance, how will I advance, the questions come to me from the will to receive which comes from the Creator, the left line and I ask the Creator to answer them to fill them. So, he answers them from the right side and then I have the vessel and the light. I have everything and by this I become. I am established correctly in the middle line on the way. This is why it says that the exaltedness of the Creator means that one becomes needy of the Creator to grant his wishes. Therefore, we have to be alert and aware and sensitive to what we feel. What is missing between us and towards the Creator, towards the study, towards anything in life. We want the Creator to answer these questions. Whatever they are, I want to feel in them the presence of the Creator both on the one hand that it comes from him and this, I have to connect to the upper force by myself. 

That there's none else besides him and on the other hand for the Creator to satisfy the deficiencies that he created and to fill them with his presence and in this way, I will gradually receive both the vessel and the light from him. Therefore, we are continuing with the article therefore: One; One should go above reason, in other words, not go egotistically to solve his problems in life. At least the spiritual ones, to go above reason in a matter of bestowing and then one sees that he is empty. Because he doesn't have the force of bestowing and then he becomes needy of the Creator, for the Creator to answer all of his questions which he may be unable to do anything with them, because he doesn't have the powers to cope with them, to deal with them. Two: Only the Creator can give the strength the power of bestowing above reception to go above reason, above the egoistic mind and heart meaning the fact that the Creator gives this power to go above a person's ego and build a new world. As we feel this world. with our egoistic force likewise when we will want and build the spiritual world with the power we will receive from the Creator. This is why it's written meaning what the Creator gives this is called the exaltedness of the Creator because then I see and discover that the Creator is the one who arranges the image of this world and the image of the spiritual world, he controls both worlds and what should I do? I should only through my efforts choose to want, choose the Creator to be the king over all of reality. 

15. S. (01:00:42:) Often times we say that a person asks for something and we have the example of a baby. The baby points to something and then the Creator does it but here speaks of a force the Creator gives you the forces to do something what is that force?

R. The fact that the Creator gives us the strength according to our demand, to go above Malchut in the degree of Bina so we begin to understand and feel that we have the power to decide not toward our will to receive but towards the will to bestow. Not for the sake of our ego but for the sake of our soul and our soul is what we build in the group in the connection between us. Because only in this way can we understand, what is this spiritual concept, the opposite of what we imagine. What we depict to ourselves.

S. What is this force?

R. It is the force of Bina, the force of bestowal which is opposite the force of reception. You also can't really say that it's opposite, we don't understand what it means in the opposite, that it's opposite but the fact that we receive it from above through the reforming light, when will you receive it, would begin to understand what the force of Bina is, it's the force of the Creator. The power that created all of reality, the power that establishes all of reality, that power that operates us to the extent that we sympathize with it we can discover it. Because then we understand how it operates and how it works and you can understand it or feel it without sympathy without being like it. Just say you're a little boy and you're in the family, your mother and father and you and they demand something from you, they want something from you and you don't understand them. You don't want to agree with them, you have your own life and own desires, how can you receive their intellect. So, the wisdom of Kabbalah explains to us how we can make such efforts where we clothe in the upper one, we surrender to the upper one so that we begin to receive the mind and heart of the upper one and we can gradually sympathize with the upper one and rise to his level. If in our world we grow and then we remain egoistic but we grow from a small degree to a great greater degree. On the spiritual ladder we have to constantly become inverted, inverted from degree to degree. What was the Keter in the upper one becomes Malchut in the lower one and we come from Malchut on the same degree to Keter and that Keter becomes the Malchut of an even higher level. 

S. So let's say do something in the 10, what's the difference between doing it with my own strength, or with the strength of Bina, what changes in the action of the intention?

R. The fact that you're working with your own strength, with your own desire and it seems good to you. By this you might be organizing the group correctly but you're not doing something spiritual. In terms of their preparation, yes, but the act itself is not really so, but if you annul yourself before the view of the group, and you feel that you are not together with them you disagree with them yet you accept their opinion even though it seems of course to you that what they think and feel is totally incorrect, in your opinion. But if you accept it and annul before them then instead of your degree which might be high, you might understand better and feel better then they, and of course you're right in the present state and not they but if you annul before them and accept what they are saying then you are receiving their spiritual level instead of your physical level. That's the difference.

S. That means to acquire the upper’s mind?

R. This is called receiving the mind of the upper one. It is called the wise learning specifically in this way. 

16. S. (01:06:53) How exactly do we know that the Creator is answering all of our questions and desires and etcetera and it is not the ego tricking us like it normally does?

R. The Creator answers to all the questions, everything we need and everything he sends us on condition that we position ourselves correctly in order to receive the answers from him, we have to prepare the vessels. The vessels are the correct connections between us and if we do this, we feel in the relationships between us, in the connection between us, we feel his answer. This is called beginning to speak with the Creator.
