Baal HaSulam. Shamati 154. There Cannot Be an Empty Space in the World

1. Rav’s Introduction:This means that in spirituality we need to scrutinize what is it that we need to do to try to begin to do it to see that we are not capable of it then to turn to the Creator and ask whereas in corporeality actually we see immediately that when we do something when we want to do something that we have before us some deed and we are ready and capable and in which form to arrange it to do it and therefore it is all arranged in such a way that corporeality is organized according to the end of correction where everything is revealed and it is possible to do whatever there is and if there are no forces to do it then we don’t do it meaning that we see these things clearly where as in spirituality there it is not according to the end of correction it’s not according to the complete form but rather we need to find we need to put together this complete form we need to demand that it will exist and we will be incorporated in it and therefore the order is different so that we need to do everything by the power of prayer, that is all, where are the questions, we don't have any, please read it again. 2. S. (04:34) You said that we do everything through the power of prayer. The power of prayer, it comes before our actions?

R. Yes, before the work before some action some deed some state where it is clear to us that we are not capable of doing it in corporeality we wouldn't do it in spirituality when we are in the best case if we scrutinize everything we feel that we have something before us that we are not capable of it isn't clear how it can be done it isn't clear how we can do it from where we will have the understanding and the power and we do approach this matter because there still as he writes it is not organized according to the end of correction but according to the order of scrutinies and so when we scrutinize these things we ask in spirituality therefore everything is done not according to our actions but prayers requests connections between us that we want to perform we are not capable of by ourselves but we want to do it such that our entire appeal to the Creator is actually our work.

That is why it is called the work of the Lord that we turn to the Creator and He does the work it is called the Creator will complete it for me therefore he says we must begin the work before the attainment of the power the strength we don’t have the power of the intellect we don’t have the power of our might we do not have an understanding we do not even have a feeling we just know that we have to reach that therefore all of our work is to awaken the upper force which is called the work of the Creator His work and we just have to awaken Him like a little one a little child that awakens the grown ups in order for them to do something for him and they do it precisely the attitude that we need to have the relation we need to have between us and the Creator.

S. The power of prayer, the power of that request, what is it?

R. As much as we scrutinize precisely our situation towards the Creator towards the state that we want to achieve to reach as much as we are connected between us that’s the most important and from the connection between us how do we turn to Him if we are connected and we have already a request from us meaning what we called a prayer of many the prayer in public then certainly the Creator answers it and he performs the action and then we get already a summary a bottom line out of the complete work that He did.

R. No but in corporeality you see what you are about to do you can count the forces the money the scrutinies that you have and you do it you study at school and the university in order to know how to perform it whereas in the wisdom of Kabbalah you need to learn how to ask of the Creator to do it how to………or raise the problem to Him your MAN what is it that you would like to happen meaning that you learn how to ask and how to ask first of all it’s in a connection between us otherwise otherwise our prayers will not reach Him and that we will try as much as possible to understand what is it that we want Him to do according to that we raise MAN as we call it the correct deficiency and the Creator does it.

4. S. (09:48) I didn't understand if the final goal is the prayer or are all the corporeal actions we do, the question is toward spirituality or does something we need to do in order to change our nature, meaning to do certain actions?

R. We need to perform all the actions that are required in order for us to put together the prayer it could be that we need to check what are the states we have between us so that we will connect and so that some strong complete single request will come from us maybe we also need to speak about the greatness of the Creator to whom we are raising the prayer He is the one who does it that we need to check whether we understand that He is capable and He can and He is waiting and expecting for us to ask of Him meaning that we have to do everything so that there will be a strong deficiency from us which is directed directly to Him this is our work.

5. S. (11:19) If in corporeality the force precedes the act then where is man’s free choice? Is it all under His choice the Creator’s choice?

R. The freedom is in that you are able to do it and you're able to not do it and that each and every degree you will have to scrutinize where it is that’s all.

6. S. (12:03) In corporeality it says before they call I will answer. Is this, there is no prayer necessary in corporeality basically is that what this is saying?

R. In corporeality we can pray that the Creator will help us to succeed in our deed in spirituality we pray that the Creator will perform the deed.

7. S. (12:58) It seems to be clear what is written but still, in corporeality and in spirituality, and we're not in spirituality right now, we are talking about corporeality so what does Baal HaSulam mean here, are these two different approaches?

R. I do not understand what you are asking can you read it as it is written so I don’t understand what is the problem then you have a corporeal thing in which it is clear to you what you have before you and that you need to do it and people still do turn to the Creator and ask for success but it is clear to them how to do it more or less and it is clear to them what is it that they need to get as a result of their effort and this is how they do it that is corporeality whereas in spirituality you do not know how to do it and how it will be done in you but also even the result you don’t know it you don’t understand it you have only one thing that you understand that this is what I had before me and I have to do it and by doing should be only in organizing the prayer not more than that, that organizing the prayer this means connecting the friends awakening their hearts and turning out of this common heart to the Creator so that He will perform the action that’s it that when we connect we are called created being before that no and then this created being that we build he turns to his Creator and he asks that the Creator will perform some action on him this is the correct spiritual operation.

S. But sometimes it happens that the prayer comes virtually from trying to connect and from not succeeding and that is what motivates the prayer. Is there a reflection from corporeality here? I don’t know how to express it, the prayer grows stronger precisely when we try to do something and don’t succeed.

R. Yes yes ok so who said that you have to succeed maybe the Creator enjoys it when you asked him.

This is an operation that needs to be in spirituality now an operation in corporeality is that we have something we need to do before us and we have the powers to do it we are capable of it we can learn how to do it we finish schools universities all kinds of studies we are capable of doing it or not but we have within us the powers and we have before us a problem and that we see that it’s there and we are able to arrange it all in all that is what we have.

S. Let us say that the disciples of Rabbi Shimon gather together and try to connect but fail and came to a state of hate as we learn, so they did some act, they came to some result and from that result there is a new prayer, correct us connect us is this already called corporeal?

R. No no I don’t understand you, corporeality means that we are capable of doing it with our own forces, spirituality means that with our own forces we are not capable of doing it.

8. S. (18:46) A similar question, you already started explaining but there is still some confusion, why in corporeality as I understand it to be for myself the chain of actions and results and actions is according to the final result.

R. In spirituality we have no forces no mind no emotion no understanding nothing with which we can perform the action nothing let’s say that you want to connect between you why doesn't it work it does not work for any group because the Creator demands that you will make a connection over whatever you have because connection is actually the correction itself because He shattered the vessel in the beginning of creation so that we will have what to correct so we need to detect the shattering and ask for the connection that’s it and the connection the Creator does it so we need as much as possible to scrutinize the relations between us and as much as we will want to do it when we will awaken it on our own we will feel how far away we are and we won’t be afraid of this distancing until we will reach a state like the students of Rabbi Shimon that wanted to kill each other before the study and later on during the study bit by bit they connect between them they realize that it is only possible with a single desire and this single desire has to be aimed towards the Creator so that the Creator will arrange the connection between them that is it.

S. Maybe another precision, to have the strength means what?

R. Strength of desire.

9. S. (21:09) So we switch states, we remove parts from the ego and then we….

R. I don’t understand what you mean, say it in normal words.

S. We can switch states, remove something from the ego then find a new state?

R. Yes.

10. S. (21:46) In the ten we try to follow the rules of Rabash we come to some prayer and concerning the answer to the prayer we don’t even demand to get some clear response in our feelings I don’t feel that as a result of the end of the process I love the friends more, the greatness of the Creator ……….so there is no conclusion here, should we demand something or should we remain?

R. S. What does it mean to compliment for all the faults that love compliments for all the faults, how do you compliment love?

R. Love is the final thing but first of all we ask that there will be some kind of connection some mutual feeling that I am working for the others for the friends and the friends each one of them is working for all of the friends and this is how we reach a common vessel and then we feel that in this vessel something begins to be revealed this is called a mutual force mutual relation mutual responsibility mutual Arvut and then out of that we already had a common feeling which is called love and inside of this love we discover the Creator this is why it is written from the love of people from the love of the ten that we make to the love of the Creator.

S. But how do we come to it? I see with my corporeal eyes certain ways of behavior of the friends and I want to complement these faults but what does it mean to complement the faults?

R. That we do not have enough forces and scrutinies that are suitable for the degree that we need to reach so we need more and more to put pressure on that also in cases where we don’t know where is the mistake where is the state that we can correct and how to make ourselves stronger so only by increasing the connection only by supporting each other.

S. What does it mean to support each other, it is so confusing?

R. Why is it confusing?

S. Because we say love will cover all crimes and we want to relate with greatness to the friends, on the other hand with our corporeal eyes we see all kinds of states that are opposite from it and it’s not clear how to relate to it.

R. It is deliberately deliberately they’re giving you such corporeal states so that you will be able to rise above them and you are not alone you have other people who can give you examples.

S. Yes but that is a question, what does it mean to rise above them. Should I ignore what I see?

R. Continue in towards the connection between us and turning to the Creator we have a very simple line it is called from the love of people to the love of the Creator.

11. S. (27:51) How come you understand that the labor I am doing is spirituality?

R. Spirituality means above the will to receive. Let us put it simply that if I ask for connection between us and from the connection between us we want to reach a connection with the Creator so that all of these connections are all outside of my will to receive, outside of me that is considered spirituality. If in the connection that I want to achieve I do not want anything for myself but rather only for friends or for the world and ultimately for the Creator then it is considered spirituality. Of course I am not directed to that and I do not want that but I can ask but I will want it. That's such a desire will awaken in me.

12. S. (29:32) If I do not know what to decide on some topic for example, I do not know what to eat for lunch for example, and I feel I need the friends help and the Creator's help in this decision is this considered spiritual?

R. Spiritual means what we achieve inside of the connection between us, that is it.  In order to decide what you want for lunch you do not need to connect with their friends or to ask the Creator.

S. So with more critical things I needed the help of the Creator and help with the friends. Is it not considered spiritual?

R. That too, is not. Spiritual means that you cannot achieve this force because it does not exist in you to begin with. It is not that you lack a little bit, anyone has more meaning you do not have it at all. Spiritual usually means simply that it is the force of love, the force of connection that the more we study the more we discover how much we are not connected, how much we are distanced from each other and we need to receive this force from above. If we will not receive it from above we will not be able to achieve it on our own. It does not exist on us, we are just the will to receive.

S. It is not clear what is the difference between corporeality and spirituality.

R. In spirituality I asked for the force of the bestowal and connection and in corporeality I ask for the force of control.

13. S. (31:57) What is the right prayer? Can we pray without a desire?

R. Of course, we do not have a desire but rather we pray that we will have a desire. This is why it is written, 'may there be a desire before you or a prayer before prayer'. We have no desires for spirituality, for connection, for love but rather to the contrary and we therefore need to ask that we will have them.

14. S. ( 32:41) What should we ask the Creator as a the ten?

R. Again

S. What should we ask the Creator as a the ten?

R. Only one thing, connection. Through connection we begin to understand to scrutinize what it is that we are lacking and how to turn to the Creator.

15. S. (33:13) What does it mean that in corporeality the order coincides with the end of correction already?

R. We have everything. We know the beginning and the end more or less and we are capable of performing the action. Whereas in spirituality we don't even know the beginning or the more so the end or how to do it.

16.S. ( 33:4 ) Each friend asks and exerts through the friends and for the friends but still it is not clear what it means to turn to the Creator together.

R. Try.

17. S. (33:57) What does it mean the effort in the ten or the efforts of the ten?

R. The efforts in the ten in spirituality that is a request that we will be able to connect even more to attach ourselves even more and then to this attachment that we achieve we discover a new spiritual state. That the whole of spirituality is revealed and how tight we are together. Okay?

18. S. (34:55) Asking for the connection together raising a prayer together is this connected to some specific moment in time where we ask together? Or should each one come to a state where he asked and then it is called together?

R. We need to reach in our efforts a state we're more or less we feel ourselves that we have a deficiency for one thing, this is called that our desire to see our King.

19. S. (35:44 ) In the article in the second part, when Baal HaSulam describes the spiritual component he writes that everything is still not corrected but it happens not according to the order of the scrutiny. It seems like the relation of certain orders determine the order of development.

R. We will see that out of our experience, spirituality becomes clear according to the pace, according to the style of the steps that we go through, according to many things. Also when we are in a group each one of us plays a certain special role and then just like the keys on a piano. It's like each and everyone is playing something else but all together what comes out of us is the right melody, the right appeal this is actually the prayer.

S. Is there a perfect order?

R. No, no never, not until the end of correction we will not have that.

20. S. (37.39) We see that in spirituality we actually have a common goal, is our advancement in the group in relation to the importance of the goal, to connection?

R. Yes.

S. This means that mostly by us  scrutinizing more, what is it that we have to do next for connection? This is also where we raised the importance of the goal?

R. Yes.

21. S. (38:14) Where do you get the strength and spirituality to awaken the upper?

R. The initial force comes from the Creator who awakens us this is called having a point in the heart which is operated by the Creator and then we need as much as we can to connect these points together and accordingly we will have a greater common for us and to turn to the Creator who is the common upper force, in this way we advance.

S. So connecting these dots is something that you do in corporeality and from that you can advance and spirituality?

R. Yes.

22. S. (39:19) How or when is the prayer transformed into raising MAN?

R. Raising man is already usually a clear form of what I need to do but every plea to the Creator for help is called raising MAN.
