Baal HaSulam - Shamati 54. The Purpose of the Work – 1
1.Rav’s Introduction: This morning I received a question where a person wrote that he is confused and doesn't remember anything, doesn't know anything, truly in a state of despair, of helplessness. More than likely also at night he had such thoughts. I wrote to him that this is actually good that he is confused and altogether every state is good but a state of confusion is good, meaning now he needs to purify what he has in his head and in his heart so that he will have a clean and pure vessel. To rid himself of what he had before and it is a nice sign that now he will have a new state, a new degree. That is how it is. We see this also in our life that I can't write on a piece of paper that is already written on, it needs to be a clean piece of paper. I can't pour a drink into the cup that has some liquid beforehand because it will spoil the flavor that I want to taste now. We need pure clean vessels and the fact that we are confused or come to the morning lesson and our head is not clean or pure is a sign that we need to become accustomed to cleaning our vessel.
Do not wait for it to happen on its own and then in the clean vessel I can examine myself, what I am receiving, what I am feeling it with and to advance. We need to be sensitive in the way we examine and fill the vessel, the results of the vessel, it is written they shall be as new in your eyes wear every day a person needs to feel himself as new. It is like the Creator created us existence from non-existence, from absence. We build ourselves seemingly in an opposite manner, from Holiness, from giving and love and therefore we correct ourselves through this. And by this, we attain the Creator, establish Him as it is written “you made me.” Meaning in this work that we have, the complete work, just like the Creator births us from absence to existence, this is how we in our work, although we don’t recognize this yet, we also come to equality with him in the fact that he ruins the world's and we correct and stabilize the worlds. The fact that we correct ourselves as we want to emerge from the authority of the Klipot is called to purify ourselves, take ourselves out of Klipa. But that is not enough, let's say that we reach zero and from zero we need to reach the height of the Creator to the world of Ein Sof, so this attainment is called Kedusha. The order of the work is to crave for his exaltedness for then the Creator shines for us in these vessels, to desire, crave and reveal the exaltedness of the Creator. What is the exaltedness of the Creator I don't know, but I want the Creator to rule over me, in those feelings of the Klipa which was always controlling me in my mind and my heart and in all of my calculations, in all that there is. Truly in that, in those places I want now for the love of the Creator to reign.
If I desire exaltedness of the Creator then by that I developed my correct will to receive. This is what he writes, the order of the work is to Crave the exaltedness of the Creator and then the Creator shines for him in these vessels to the extent he craves for the exaltedness. At first, we don't feel he's shining to us because it can stop us, it can confuse us and we don’t have the vessels to feel the exaltedness, then it slowly comes to the feeling. But we need to know that to the extent a person has the vessels of purity which is called that he is purifying himself from the will to receive which is called the matter of hate evil, to the extent that we hate our ego, hate our will to receive is how we rise above it. This is called that we come to purify and to that extent he can work in holiness as Holiness is already beyond the purification, the purification is where I'm taking myself out of the will to receive, when I am purifying myself. Then I still acquire the qualities of Holiness in order to bestow. To that measure he can work in the matter of Holiness, as it is written those who love the Lord hate evil. That besides me rising above my ego, above my will to receive, I also need to move to a state where I love the quality of bestowing, I hate the quality of reception is part of my work.

R. We probably don't have enough of a desire for it, we are not yet yearning for the pleasures that don't belong to the Creator, for in order to bestow but rather in order to receive, to purify ourselves from in order to receive from enjoying reception is called the work of purity, of purification that is what you are asking about. R. We are always that way, we are always wanting to advance to a state that we don't yet know, we don't yet recognize or sense, we don't even have the records from it yet. From the descent from above down there are records and all of the Partzufim and degrees happened consistently but in the ascent from below upward, how do we know where to go? That is why we have to become incorporated and connect with the friends and as a result of that we pray that we attract a light that reforms and it does that for us, it's not that we build our degree. We need to know how to nullify to the next degree and then it lands on us.

R. Of course we are more worthy of the articles of Shamati then all the previous generations before us. That is because there is what’s called, the decline of the generation, so the next generation will be even worse and they will need the Shamati articles even more. So today it reaches and comes to everyone as we spread it and disseminate it, as much as we can. Specifically, because the more there is a decline of the generations; the worse the generations become the more they need correction and the more they are worthy of correction. R. That is all over work. That we want to feel our connection with a Creator in our vessel. The vessel is the feeling. The mind is only helping us guide ourselves but the Kli [vessel] itself is a desire, the desire is a feeling, a sensation. So how can we reach that? We have to first build such relations between one another so that we will begin to feel one another, in the way that from that we will get to feel the Creator. Imagine that you are with the friends and you have a good strong group; each one should try to feel the 10. Try it, to that extent you will be ready to feel the Creator. The Creator is revealed in the 10. We spoke about it many times. The center of the 10 is where you will reveal the Creator. 25. S. (01:21:27) About this partnership with the Creator that you explained in the beginning, is still not clear. R. No you cannot come to Him if you’re not connected. You can't connect with Him if you’re not connected, meaning with the friends. You can't identify Him. You can't even make a single step towards Him if you are not first connected, prior to that. With what vessel are you coming? Even with the smallest vessel it has to be built by everyone, from all of the parts. 10 and not 9, 10 and not 11; It means, not the 10 but it means that everyone needs to be connected and no one is left out.
S. So when can we say that the created beings are starting to become partners of the Creator, even in small percentages?
R. When they will be able to give Him something or more so to receive something from Him. In order to do these actions, to give to the Creator or to receive from the Creator we need to be in some kind of form a connection between us, to the Creator. We reach a state that we reveal the Creator, we connect to him to give to Him or receive from Him; to give Him meaning to bestow in order to bestow and to receive from Him is to receive in order to bestow. If we already have such relations with the Creator; that is already that we have a ten, a group and the Creator in front of us and we are all set.
26. S. (01:23:52) Working in purity and in holiness, can we say that purity is bestowing in order to bestow and Holiness is receiving in order to bestow?
R. Yes, that's right.
27. S. (01:24:18) You said that we need to learn that every day we will be as new. From this should I understand that we do not need to do a summary beyond the day that has passed?
R. Every day with its own summary. Every morning, every afternoon and every evening has its own summary: In the morning it is how we start the day, at noon we meet about what we worked on and what we need to work on till the end of the day, and at the end of the day a summary. R. To reveal love towards someone means that I want to fulfill all of their desires. Like a mother towards her child. That is called love, simple as that. A mother towards a baby has a natural love, but we have natural hatred and rejection towards one another. We need to first of all detach from the hatred, from the separation. That is called the work of purity, that I purify myself. I then do the actions of holiness that I am willing to bestow upon the friends.
34. S. (01:33:06) Why is it written that the lower one has a desire to bestow and the matter is their desire to bestow into the lower one, into the will to receive, is included there?
R. So how will the lower one work if not by using his desire? Without the desire there is nothing. Our matter is the desire to receive. If there was no desire to receive then we would not exist. That is why the upper light does many actions in four phases of direct light in order to build the Malchut. That is the desire.
