Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 1. Part 2. Inner light. #7 ("This is the root of the expansion that was innovated, ..")

Item 2 “Expansion of the light of Ein Sof ….”

Item 7 Inner Light “This is the root of the expansion that was ….”

Item 8 Inner Light “When the light of the line dresses….”

34. S. ( 2:58) What is the Sefira of Keter?

R. It is the beginning or the source, the light of Ein Sof, unlimited.

.

Item 3 ARI “The circle was not adhesive with the light of ….”

Item 9 Inner Light “That means that the entire life that is found ….”

35. R. (06:43) Please try to ask about these things but not from the geometry of it, but in essence how these circles work with the line, with the linear aspect of it. What does it mean that they touch or don't touch one another?

36. S. (07:03) Where do we find everything he described here in this process of creation?

R. This is after the emergence of Ein Sof expanding from Ein Sof. There are four phases and the line and this is how reality is created that is still including all of the worlds and in general he is explaining all of creation and how it appears as circles. Inside the circles the line that emerges that governs it is called the straight line.

S. He outlines some constant laws of creation?

R. Yes.

37. S. (08:15) The qualities of the line fill these circles so what is different inside the circle than how it was outside the circle in the 4 phases?

R. What is different is that these circles behave like prior to the first restriction and the line behaves after, like the way it would after the first restriction. Only according to the law of the first restriction can you fill the circles.

S. The circle came out after the first expansion so how do we have those qualities in the circle that are from after the first restriction?

R. The circles precede the line because first there were circles which were then restricted and then from the light of Ein Sof, a line extended with builds and fills the circles but it is not that the line precedes the circles, the circles precede the line. The circles are vessels without limitation in which the light that expands and spreads from the four phases of direct light is there defining them in such a way.

S. Is there a connection between, towards the Kav, line and Kavanah, intention?

R. No, the line is the governance from above down according to the degrees of coarseness of the direct light and the governance is from below upwards which also moves according to the degrees of coarseness but from below upwards, from the creature to the Creator. Of course, the two of them are in the law of the line because they have one beside and one that executes and for who he does it is all arranged according to the line.

38. S. (11:06) What is the essential difference between the light of Ein Sof and the line in the circle?
R. You can say Ein Sof is somewhat in the form of a circle, as the circle of Ein Sof, meaning they limitations of any means not for the desire to receive or the desire to bestow, there are no limiting forces, the forces of bestowal and reception are the only two forces that operate in creation. The line is already according to a certain measuring scale and the circles, also specific circles that exist after the line designed the circles. We have the circle of Ein Sof where there are no limitations whatsoever and then there are the circles with the names Keter, Hochma, Bina and so on, although they are circles they are created by the limitation of the line.

S. Is the state of the circle and line deficient towards Ein Sof?

R. Of course it is not whole as a circle and lines are the states of imperfection, even the circle because it is also limited. Ein Sof is unlimited. There is no above or down toward any direction or quality in any way, no limitations. The desire as we are speaking only about a desire which is unlimited in anything that you want to say is called Ein Sof.

39. S. (13:11) Is it correct to call the expansion of the light into the line, into the depth of the desire?

R. Yes, for the time being you can say it that way, it will change.

S. As I heard according to the explanation, the line is a direct attitude towards the Creator?

R. No, not to the Creator, it is to the created being from above down. We are now talking about the expansion of forces from above down. It is not to the Creator but to the created being.

S. Can you explain the direct attitude towards creation?

R. Let's say yes, you need to read and talk about it, so it works out. You can't stand on a word here and start expanding on it into directions as you think are right.

Item 10 Inner Light “if it's illumination had been in all four ….” (14:56)

40. R. (15:29) Here we see the limitations are what give us the ability to identify circles and lines and all of the actions of the Creator towards us.

Item 20 Inner Light “The light that expands from Infinity to the emanated being ….” ()

41. R. (17:22) He is trying to say that we are talking about the creation of the vessel which is the desire and this desire can sustain and reveal the light, by what? The light fills all of reality but we can't identify it, rather only to the extent that there is a Kli that is in contact with the light revealing the light within it. This is the principle of everything that, special text on the quality of the light, is in contact with the light revealing the light within it. This is the principle of everything that we have in this world. In technology, in connections between us, it doesn't matter what we are talking about there is always some certain quality that takes upon itself on limitations or expansions. Another quality and from that there is another connection and limitation. Therefore, what we see here is that the Kli takes on the quality of light and therefore to such an extent that can take on actions like the light and therefore the same action we identify as existing because without that we can't even identify it, because they upper light is around us without any limitations, we don't reveal it. Rather the Kli takes on the qualities according to the upper light, they can fill it and reveal it.

42. S. (19:14) The oil in the wick is the reflected light?

R. The tallow is the coarseness and the wick is the reflected light. yes, but it is the reflected light that stems from the fact that there is oil here, the wick without the oil does not work and the oil without the wick does not work. It is the connection between the two which gives us the ability to illuminate in return. We have to be in the desire to receive on one hand and from this we need to be in the intention in order to bestow additionally and this is what we need the upper light to ignite the wick with the oil inside of it.

S. I did not get it.

R. The oil cannot light and the wick cannot light. We need something to ignite, meaning the upper light needs to appear. Specifically, here we have the 3 components together, wick, oil and upper light, and then the wick with the oil can ignite.

S. What he says here is about connection or attachment. What does this mean?

R. It means already connecting the wick to the oil and the upper light, not alone, there is a specific connection between them so the three components are together and then we can see the light. That we reveal the Creator. This cannot be revealed any other way if these three components won't be as one. We don't see in our world these components working spiritually but in spirituality for them to incorporate the oil and the wick, the wick wants to absorb the oil and the wick with the oil needs to be similar to the light and then the upper light they are alike and adhere to them and ignite them. We will learn these things but this example is the correct example for all of creation as there is no more than that. The oil changes according to its example and wick changes according to the extent of coarseness and degrees of connection between the oil and the wick which change from degree to degree, meaning from world to world and these degrees still, vegetative, and animal is on every level as well not just the examples from a piece wick and oil or wax as their need for the oil can the enter into the wick, the body and there needs to be an ignition from above so that it lives.

43. S. (23:41) Can we explain it a little bit through the 10?

R. Let's hope that soon, let's read a little bit more.

Item 30 “The reason for it is that there is no screen ….” (24:11)

44. S. (25:43) To what extent the upper light comes down descending in a line is influenced in any degree of creation until I get to the fourth degree where the connection from below is called a pipeline, a restriction on the desire. So what extent is the restriction and what extent they're opposite the desire?

R. The pipeline is a limited desire and accordingly we have the diameter of that pipe and that is it, also the pipe is one that has a certain law that only in such a way can you expand and not in any other way whereas a circle can expand in all directions. A sphere is beyond all of the discernments.

45. S. (27:30) Is the relationship between a line and circle the same as Bina and Malchut?

R. The line is measuring the line that gives with limitation all the bestowal from above and down and a circle is already not bestowing but rather just receiving in a passive manner in which the line fills it. So as far as the quality that is closer to the Creator. The circle is closer to the Creator, to Ein Sof, the side of bestowal, the circle cannot bestow in any way but only the line can be so to the extent it fills a circle.

46. S. (28:41) He writes that the vessels of circles were created after the first restriction before the appearance of the line and I thought they were before the restriction?

R. The circles are before the restriction and they remain after the restriction, only so that they can be filled after the restriction only by the line.

S. He writes here that all of the lights in them they must receive through the line what are they?

R. The circles.

47. S. (29:44) He says there is no screen in the circle to raise the reflected light so there's no connection between the emanated being and the upper light so how did the circles connect?

R. These circles connect between themselves by the line. The line is the connection which is something that we can define that we can connect one to the other and in the circles, we cannot do anything as they are limiting our qualities, our original qualities. But in order to use them I need the lines between them. A line is a limitation, a restriction according to all kinds of qualities and discernment. Therefore, through this we can be connected and bestow and influence each other.

S. There is no reflected light in this work?

R. The line exists through the reflected light.

S. Is there connection with the tens where we connect what is written here?

R. Let's say that the 10 is the circle and the connection between the friends in the circle is the line.

48. S. (31:21) I am the line and the friends are the circle and I am responsible for bringing it all together?

R. For the time being you can think that way.

49. S. (31:50) Bina and Hochma represent wick and oil?

R. I don't want to jump to those things, let's wait, why do you need to get confused now and work with discernments that are still incorrect.

Item 4 “The light of Ein Sof surrounds ….” (32:49)

Item 40 Inner Light “We distinguish two kinds of light and each ….”

50. S. (36:03) What defines the circles prior to the restriction and how are they divided?

R. There are no limits, very simple, the circles are unlimited vessels.

S. Prior to the restrictions there are several circles so how are they divided?

R. By qualities, not according to the desires but according to the qualities, blue, white, black it doesn't matter about qualities that is also a kind of restriction, also qualities of restriction but they are not felt as restricted or limited. If they are in the study of water or the sea of light and none of them is limited or restricted that is how it feels itself then it is infinity.

S. I'm asking because they said the light of Ein Sof is like one light prior to the restriction so this is also divided by circles, by qualities?

R. It's not divided because there is no one to divide it.

51. S. (37:38) About the inner light and the general light can we all be influenced by the surrounding light and the general?

R. You don't understand where you are, what surrounding light are you talking about?

S. The light we are trying to draw when we work?

R. So this is not the same surrounding light we are talking about, we are where we are today at the bottom of all the degrees below everything and what comes to us is this tiny restriction of Illumination that is called the light of Ein Sof or the unlimited upper light, but this is something completely different as it is a light that went through all of the degrees in all of the restrictions and limitations, but relative to us this is how it shines.

S. Just wanted to clarify if we can influence that which is connected to our system of correction?

R. Of course, you said it correctly.

52. S. (38:56) What efforts and actions do we need to do for the answers to come from within and not from without?

R. We need to work with actions of bestowal and connection and by this we will be as close as possible to the surrounding light and it raises us higher on the ladder. The degrees of a ladder between each degree we have surrounding light. In the degrees themselves we have Inner Light.

53. S. (39:52) Why are the higher vessels, circles that cannot draw the light and they're dependent on the lower vessels, the lines?

R. How can they draw the light? Because they have the ability to draw, they have the desire that is revealed in them on the one hand makes them lower than the circles and on the other hand it makes them more active than the circles.

S. What is that similar to in our world as an example?

R. Who can influence you more, a stranger or your mother, or your child? A mother can influence you much, you feel love, she can't truly punish or influence you all that much, but if someone will come from the police and wag his finger at you and say no, no, then you are as a child and you will take it very seriously so the circles are weak. They have no limit, no restriction they are not able to pressure and demand. Their will to receive is not truly revealed whereas the line with weight and certain measurements you go from degree to degree with great pressure. This is why all of our corrections are through the lines and our work is in the lines and what we are doing by that is we are filling the circles. Those circles that are emptied as a result of the first restriction in the world of Ein Sof are the ones we are filling and this is the circle.

54. S. (42:38) In what way is the line lower than the circle?

R. The line is lower than the circle because the line can be filled by the light of Ein Sof and the line cannot. The line does not have the degrees that the screen restricts and reflects the light that it can fill itself with and fill the restricted circles. We are still in those actions that happened from above down before the lower one is established and begins to influence and bestow from below up.

S. It's written that the line fills the circle. How is the circle filled by something lower?

R. It is filled partially from below up because the line restricts the circle not giving them everything to return to the state of Ein Sof in terms of filling.

S. When does the line begin to fill them?

R. The line does not disappear, of course we are filled by the line but after the restriction, screen and reflected light. The vessel of the line gets used to various acts of filling and can determine what it fills and how much, organizing many circles next to it around each and every one of its Sefirot of Igulim and Yosher, the line, but the lines fill the circles. After the first restriction the circle stopped being higher and the desire to receive stopped being the determining factor but only the screen and reflected light became the determining factor. This way the circles get filled. Although they are larger you can fill them through the line, the restriction, screen and reflected light.

55. S. (45:23) Can you call the circles the first vessel?

R. Yes, the circles are the first vessel, but according to what do we call them a vessel, they don't draw the lights, they don't build themselves, they don't fill themselves with the upper light, the circles simply exist because the Creator created the desire after the line emerges and the restriction and the screen and the reflected light, the line determines everything.

S. When we talked about the line it seems we have more discernments and when we talked about circles it seems there's no perception in them?

R. True, as we lack the reception in the circles because we are a product of the line according to the limitations of the restrictions, screen, and reflected light. We are all of the lines not attaining the circles very much except that we get to work with them sometimes but in truth our work is in the line. It is all about the restriction, screen and reflected light which belongs to the line.

56. S. (47:16) It's written there are two kinds of surrounding light, a general and a particular. What is the connection between them?

R. Inner-light and surrounding light, you have two lights. One is the light that is without limitation is surrounding lights and the light that is received through limitation is that the lower one decides upon as inner light with different modes and styles in both.

57. S. (48:07) In the 10 we build a line from the circles?

R. I don't understand what you're saying, need to close your speaker.

S. Can you hear me now?

R. Yes.

S. Can we say that through our efforts we build a line from the circles and if so, are we doing this in a conscious manner?

R. We are building the line according to our desires in the connection between us, this is what we do oh, how do we do this this is something we will learn about. Sit down and listen.

Item 50 Inner Light “He tells us that the surrounding light ….” (49:59)

59. S. (52:13) The three lines that appear in Atzilut are reflected light, surrounding light, and direct light?

R. No, we do not learn it, you are asking questions that are far away from us, where are you taking these questions from? Don't read what we're not learning about and put them together because then you start to ask things that are not interesting to the other friends as they don't understand or learn this, so please ask exactly what we read about and only in the form that we read about it. I have a problem with this because you're starting to spread in all directions, you read an excerpt and that exit we need to study and not more than that and not the 3 lines and what is happening there even if he writes about it. If we didn't learn it, we're not asking about it because it will come later. That is how the study of TES, it is written in general, that anyone who learns it starts to learn about it in a more constrained manner, in a single line, be more connected to what we are learning that we will be connected in the line. It is impossible to explain what you are asking, maybe a year from now.

Item 70 Inner Light “The restriction and the screen that were placed ….” (54:47)

60. R. (55:28) The light that expands in the circles where we are expands without any restrictions that is why it is called without any restriction oh, it is not rushing but later we will learn all of our actions are through the pipeline and then we'll talk about the restriction, the screen and the reflected light. All of these limitations that our actions construct until we feel that space of the general desire with all of the connections, with all of the pipelines until we fill it with a light of Ein Sof once again. So, our work is not to work with the light of Ein Sof and not even with the surrounding light or with the circles. Our work is with the lines, restriction, screen and the reflected light receiving the light in order to bestow and only in this way. What we are learning now we are learning a little bit in order that we will leave it until the end of correction.

61. S. (56:44) Can we call the line that forms a circle?

R. The line is what connects the circles, the line is what fills the circles, it is what makes the vessels out of the circles come on the 10 Sefirot. The line generally speaking is the corrupted vessel, the important vessel we learned only about that in order to work with it ourselves, not only to learn about it but to work with it all depending on the line as much as we can expand and fill it with the light of Ein Sof. It is the attitude of the guests to the host and the host to the guests, there is a circle, Ein Sof and the guests to the host there is a line and how much the guest is capable of receiving from the host, receiving it in order to bestow.
