Part 1:
Rabash. Article No. 5, 1990. What It Means that the Land Did Not Bear Fruit Before
Man Was Created, in the Work
Reading: (00:55) “It is written in The Zohar…”
1. S. (38:04) He writes here he doesn't have that perfection of one line, therefore now a person needs to give great efforts to be able to listen and receive vitality from the right. What was the big difference between the still and vegetative that it’s feeling it this way?
R. The vegetative already has to scrutinize to examine what is for the better and what is for the worse in order to grow towards the Creator. To the benefit of the Creator. This scrutiny is very critical because it’s the first scrutiny of the created beings, spiritually speaking.
2. S. (39:21) He writes sometimes he is in the worst state, meaning that he doesn't even want without prayer for the Creator to take him out of self-love. On the contrary, he has a desire for the Creator to help him fulfill his desire to receive in every possible filling and that is called the left side. Because in spirituality the correction necessary is called left. During the day we do a lot of great work in receiving the filling, receiving what's lacking through the Ten and all kinds of ways, we overcome and do another one, and another one. There's this stage that we come to that I actually feel towards the evening, that you're not capable of overcoming anymore. It's like this level that you can't cross anymore and you feel that you're despaired, you feel you can't. You want to receive it because it’s our nature also. The question is what is your advice?
R. I can't recommend anything because none is as wise as the experience. You yourself have to search and find the solution.
S. Now there's this feeling that the moment you meticulously exert at not receiving directly and then some small thing that you are willing to receive consciously, you see some small thing, it's like an opening that opens more for other things. The question is how does it work? Why does it work in this way?
R. Why it works that way is not a question. The question is whether what's after this opening are you moving forward or not, are you advancing or not?
S. The advancement is in understanding of how nature operates on me, and how weak I am because I feel that I really don't have much forces.
R. Yes, keep going, continue, can't recommend anything just keep going.
S. How to relate to this feeling that you're really making efforts exerting throughout the day and with the Ten and all kinds of situations and you fall in some small thing. How to relate to this correctly and not fall to some feeling of frustration.
R. Be closer to the friends.
S. That's what I'm doing. I'm trying to do it all day long.
R. What other advice can there be?
S. That feeling of despair, is that a good feeling?
R. Helplessness is good on the one hand, but on the other, you have to go towards the next degree and already begin to acquire it. Helplessness is a negative feeling from the previous state but is what will pull you towards the next state.
S. No matter what, what was and at that point try anew to overcome, strengthen, and connect to the friends without looking at not being sorry. There is nothing to be sorry about?
R. Yes.
3. S. (43:32) I want to relate to the title if that's okay? What does it mean the land did not fruit prior to the man being born in the work? The question is, I'm reading this for the first time, is before man was created the world wasn't created?
R. The world was created still, vegetative, even animate, and then speaking.
S. According to what's written here the Creator created man. Did the Creator create man, or do we create ourselves? You say that there's a Creator between us only when we do the work we will build man, so who does that?
R. It's not according to your choice, it's nature. According to Nature, there's still, vegetative, animate, and speaking.
S. Did the Creator create man or are we creating ourselves? You once said that there was no Creator, remember? You said we had to reveal the Creator between us, you’re building yourself. Are we really building ourselves?
R. I don't know what to answer.
S. It's perplexing, it's you know when we're sitting in the Ten, so there's no man and I didn't create myself yet, I was yet to be created, and there in my actions in my relations towards the friends and the friends toward me we're building ourselves, building the man in us. It's like we're a bunch of beasts sitting and studying and until you build yourself it’s like you're not, you haven't been created, you don't even exist. So, what I'm asking is did the Creator create that or did we create that ourselves?
R. The Creator prepared everything. You have to connect between you in the Ten so that you will collect yourself to the point that the Adam will emerge.
S. The heading is amazing, “The Land Did Not Bear Fruit Before Man Was Created in the Work,” and what are those fruits? Man is the fruits? Is it us, we are building these ourselves, the fruits kind of?
R. Yes.
4. S. (46:28) What is the fear of heaven?
R. The fear of heaven is a fear that a person has and it grows and develops within the person a fear towards the Creator which is about whether the person will be able to bring contentment to the Creator.
5. S. (47:01) Why is the whole right line not able to build the spiritual line in the left line? Why is the right line of perfection of wholeness not able to build spirituality in the left line?
R. It won't actually be wholeness if it's the right without the left. They have to complement each other to become incorporated, it is called the right in the left and the left in the right.
6. S. (47:46) He reads in the article at the end the Creator wants to end in speaking of the Creator or whoever wants to believe in the Creator doesn’t matter the level of faith but how much faith he has is capable of beginning to observe Torah and Mitzvot. He asked, what's the difference between the measure of faith and how much faith a person has?
R. Faith is the force of bestowal, it's the light of Hassadim, the light of Mercy that a person is able to cover or fulfill himself before he approaches carrying out the Mitzvah which is already the light of Hochma. Therefore, it's very important that he'll be ready for it, be prepared for it.
7. S. (48:47) What actions bring a person to attain the greatness of the Creator? What deeds bring a person to attain the greatness of the Creator?
R. Mostly through society, through the friends by which he comes to a gradual revelation of the Creator and then he has, then he has a feeling, an attainment at least partial of the greatness of the Creator.
8. S. (49:42) A friend described a situation where a person touches the will to receive and experiences a certain descent into it. When he emerges out of it what exactly do we bring to the Ten? How do we bring this to the Ten as a gift that descent? How do I contribute to the connection from the descent that I just went through?
R. When you begin to attain that it's a descent, you will have to rise above it and connect with the friends from the descent that you will overcome. But if you don't overcome it then what is the benefit of the Ten? It's only in giving them an opportunity to overcome, but that now has to be a special case.
9. S. (50:43) What does it mean that the Torah is the speech of the Creator, the voice of the Creator?
R. Torah is the revelation, the expression of the Creator, revelation to the created beings.
S. How do we hear the voice of the Creator?
R. How to hear the voice of the Creator, by wanting to nullify to feel that we're in a field that's been blessed by the Creator, that everyone connects, everyone wishes to be together as a single body, and then the voice of the Creator lies in the connection between them.
S. What do we start hearing?
R. We start hearing, that depends on what state you're in. Each one hears what belongs to him.
S. Is there no common hearing of the Ten?
R. Sometimes yes, but typically no. Typically one has to hear something based on his state.
10. S. (52:26) He writes about the still, the state of still, which is only and the vegetative was left line. The critique from the last time I asked I understood that I have to stop my left line, my criticism, and just be still, but He kind of wants us to develop for us not to stay still, so I'm stopping my development according to what he writes.
R. You also have to open up the left line but maintain the connection to the right line and that will be the middle line that will grow.
S. I have criticism that I want to pour before you and cry.
R. I don't know what you mean by pouring out and what all that is.
S. Left line, of criticism that’s going to advance us and all these things are for advancement, not God forbid negative criticism with the hope that really it will rise and rise.
R. (no comment)
11. S. (53:33) He describes how the will to receive claims with intellect and reason and a person needs to answer the body that he's going above reason. How do you depict, and how do you answer each time? Do you have advice to answer the desire that comes and tells you this is important, leave that, come, receive pleasure now, corporeal pleasure, this is more important? How do you answer in such a point to the will to receive? What do we talk to it? How to understand this?
R. Yes, you are as if you speak to your desires, your intentions, your thoughts. You review them, examine them, and inspect them.
S. I'm like truly answering from within. It's like I have this inner conversation with them.
R. Yes, an inner dialog.
S. Then there he describes this thing where faith stands even more important than reason in him and that's why he hears to the faith voice and not the voice of reason. Can we depict that listening to the voice of faith, at least in the beginning of our state, is to listen to the voice of the Ten?
R. It’s both, it’s the voice of the Ten and also the voice of bestowal.
S. How do you listen, how do you listen to the Ten?
R. Try to be connected in such a way that makes it clear to everyone what is the collective voice of the Ten, how can one become included in them inside his Ten.
S. I have friends who give good examples and I find myself many times that these examples kind of like pass by me, I don't take from them really, this is an example and I need to receive forces from it.
R. That depends on your preparation. It depends on the preparation.
S. Clear, thank you.
R. Work on it.
12. S. (56:20) I want to continue what you and a friend scrutinized. It is written here, by knowing that he has wholeness, and he has nothing to add only quantity. We heard from you several times that when we feel a state that we should say, we call it an ascent, upliftment, and it's really good to open up and read from the sources, to engage in things that add in the work.
R. Things that can add interest for you.
S. Yes. This means that it inside this, automatically we’ll call it, rises is the criticism towards the attitude towards I continue to read and like you said, and then there’s some seismograph inside of me that it's kind of like saying to me and examining me and saying, oh, but what quality are you in.
R. Quality.
S. This quality of the work, how much are you really there, where are your friends, how much are you really there. So, the middle, as far we're concerned is where there's sufficient quantity in the matter, in the feeling, and the quality of the request is it’s no more mine but rather from my incorporation in relation to the friends.
R. Again.
S. This action happened and now I'm adding in quantity of how much I can advance. The critique arises about the quality of the advancement whether as if this third line is, that I joined this feeling that there is from the quantity of the attitude to the quality but it's no longer dependent on me, it's beyond me, it is clearly that it's in the friends now.
R. Well, perhaps it's not in the feeling of the friends but you've already passed it on to that.
S. No, here there's something personal I want to ask. How important, or permitted, desirable is for a student to come to his Ten and say listen I am feeling a little strong now therefore I did certain actions of bestowal, let's say on WhatsApp or a workplace, but I didn't feel. I don't know if it's my flaws that anything came back in some form of quality from you. Am I permitted to come and ask to scrutinize together?
R. I don't know about your relationship on WhatsApp, I’m not familiar with WhatsApp.
S. It’s as if we’re sitting here at the table in a workshop because we’re not physically here, we’re using some virtual tool.
R. Yes.
S. So it's a field of work.
R. Okay so you're asking what?
S. I see many times in the Ten there are still states in which friends can be insulted, to feel that something is too much for them, and they find difficulty embracing their deficiencies.
R. I don't know. First of all, the connection, the communication, well especially virtual, yes. Virtual communication was designed, was meant for us to extend, to continue our physical communication and I think for most friends it's beneficial, they benefit from it.
S. We'll call it this way, at least upon some of the friends that I see that they’re strong and they're working better than me for sure, I see that they would really want to add in the quantity of the work and the quality, and they're really worried about putting it to the test between the friends. That we're willing to take, are we ready to take such an obligation or not?
R. I don't know exactly what you're referring to because I'm not using all these tools. I know that if I'm with the Ten then in a few minutes together we scrutinize what's between us ultimately and then we continue through the study, most important is the studying together which fills us up, connects us, and by it, we become fulfilled and included in a shared understanding, that specifically the connecting over the text of Rabash or Baal HaSulam that kind of connection gives us or brings us closer to a common vessel.
S. Also because of deficiency and potential possibility for work together between friends in order to also raise the quantity and quality as a result of availability but let's say importance, some of the friends have the deficiency for us to truly put forth the work. Is it okay for them to do it and this will already draw, one way or another, everyone?
R. Make it a part of the lesson or maybe after the lesson I see there are still some groups that stay here and discuss between them. So, after the lesson, if you wish, if you want to finish the lesson ten minutes earlier, and then determine for the rest of the day until the next lesson what you're going to do in terms of your connection and influence in the Creator together.
S. We thought to take as an example an article, maybe the article that day, to study together, how to divide it in three and take a certain excerpt from the lighter to the heavier and to see what principle of the work and connection of the work we can with certainty identify there and what tools for the work can we use in order to implement and use in order to pass to everyone and to establish and discover between us. Is it okay if we do this kind of work?
R. Try, try. Any attempt this very good and a day afterward or in two days you can already change it up and let another group do it and thus advance, it will bring about closeness and incorporation, Hitkalelut.
13. S. (01:06:00) I had a question about fear, he gives this destination for fear, he writes that fear should be he is worried that he won't be able to bring contentment to his maker. Logically this is understood but when you try to enter a little deeper, when you fear from missing bringing contentment, there has to be some sort of feedback on whether you did bring contentment or not?
R. You can't find a response?
S. I can't find a response, it feels like my intellect is what defines for me if I did the right actions or not. If I did right or not, I don't have any feelings.
R. The feeling with the friends that you bring contentment through them.
S. The feeling with the friends I see in the will to receive in their will to receive. They're satisfied or their receiving importance. They come burning to the morning lessons or like that, this is what I'm capable of understanding?
R. This gives you sufficient points to advance?
S. It gives me the motivation to continue and do these actions.
R. Yes.
S. How do I attack this from a different place that I should be afraid not to bring contentment?
R. Not to bring contentment?
S. To be afraid to not give contentment, afraid he will diminish in his ability to bring contentment to His maker. How do I identify each time and watch that this fear should be alive?
R. What for?
S. To not go back again to being in order to receive and mess with nonsense because this world, this weight is always lowering us and that fear disappears. When we have that consistent fear then we would be alive all the time because it hurts, but that pain kind of is constantly pushed aside.
R. You don't have an advice?
S. It seems to me, that's why I'm asking.
R. What can we answer him or ask? I don't even see one hand.
S. Why didn't you ask?
R. Why didn't you ask? That's also true, and still, what else?
14. S. (01:09:18) What does how much contentment we give to the Creator depend upon?
R. How much do you want? How much you're able to transcend yourself, connect some qualities, and vessels, and aim them at the Creator.
S. What does this ability of mine depend on?
R. How much you have prepared yourself.
S. What strives to be able to have an action that you are doing in order to bring contentment to the Creator?
R. That you imagine the Creator as being in front of you and expecting this action from you and you discover within you this charge that can come and emerge towards the Creator.
S. A kind of certain necessity?
R. Yes.
S. This necessity needs to kind of grow each time?
R. Of course, yes.
S. Meaning from action to action there just needs to be more necessity for it?
R. Yes.
15. S. (01:10:57) I wanted to ask about the left line in the Ten, when hatred erupts between friends, we know it's a good thing that we can work with it and it's part of the process. The question is whether hatred remains longer than it should remain, what's the meaning of that?
R. That you're not working with it.
S. How do you work with hatred?
R. First of all you grab hold of it so it's not just in the air and not just wandering between us. Rather, we want to work with the hate so that we can make decisions over it. Do we need it, should it become something greater, or higher, and are we going to keep it on the way and so on, but to work with it. It's an important piece of data.
S. If you don't work with them what do you lose?
R. You lose an element of the work, of the spiritual work, hate is a big force.
S. What is the responsibility if it's like there are two friends and there's a lot of hatred for a long time, what's the responsibility of the Ten towards this thing?
R. The responsibility of the Ten is to see how the hate between two or more friends in the group will become a force of progress.
S. What's the responsibility of the two friends who are in this process, and who have difficulty working with one another and influence them in all kinds of ways? What's the responsibility of let's say these two people who have this hatred between them, and this hatred is projecting upon many other things in the functioning of the Ten, what's their responsibility?
R. The Ten has to show both of them that in working with the hate not that just by deleting it and running away from it, letting it go, but rather working with the hate they can correct and correct it and bring about a force of connection and even love into the group.
S. Is this something that the Ten has to relate to in a very serious manner?
R. Yes, yes it's an opportunity, everything is awakened by the Creator and not for no reason.
16. S. (01:14:02) At least in the article as an answer to what the friend said there, I remember that all three fears are not for his own benefit, meaning also the thought of this world and also the next world. He writes there in another place that we also read in the note, for he is great in my eyes. That is some kind of thought that a person needs to think of when he's working, that this fear needs to be replaced with the greatness of the friends with faith. That there's no immediate answer, at least that's what it seems to be at least immediately in being stronger on the path.
R. Yes.
17. S. (01:15:11) It is written, "A person cannot emerge from their control by himself and say, I am going above reason, since it is against nature." My question is, how do we go above reason within ourselves when we only know our own nature?
R. By the society, the environment, the support. Envy, lust, and honor take the person out of this world and these seemingly negative forces envy, lust, and honor, if a person uses them to ascend above himself, then he succeeds, then he succeeds.
18. S. (01:16:28) The title of the article, “The Land Does Not Bear Fruit Before Man Was Created,” is the fruit the connection between us and the Creator?
R. Yes, fruit means everything that we enjoy in our work. Alright.
19. S. (01:17:22) How to make the transition from action to intention?
R. When we make a calculation with respect to the action then we understand, we see before us what we have to get to, and we get to the intention we get to the new intention.
20. S. (01:18:29) In our work many fears awaken, these fears are they corrections that we need?
R. I didn't understand.
S. He says that many fears awaken in our work, are these fears necessary for our work?
R. Of course, everything, anything that awakens in us doesn't have to be for everyone but anything that awakens in us, awakens intentionally, and we have to respond to it and that's how we slowly connect between us more and more.
S. Fear from not bestowing to the Creator is that a correction that we need to attain?
R. A desire to bestow contentment to the Creator is what we wish to attain, that's it. Consequently, we're looking for ways to do it.
21. S. (01:20:10) To be able to walk on two legs we need the right and the left line, we learn to walk towards the right we always say, but we also need to open the left line to be able to criticize let's say if we're working for the Creator's sake or not. How to do this correctly here let's say to come to the left line, to open the left line correctly?
R. A person alone is unable to do it only if he's incorporated in the society then he will see how many forces and what way he needs to add to bestow to the society, so it will become stable then he will see what his correct work should be.
S. How can we help each other, let's say in the Ten to open this correctly this left line? We should be focused on the right line we learn, but how do we correctly open let's say this left line to work with it correctly in the Ten? What should we do in the Ten to help each other?
R. Simply be closer together, to be closer together.
22. S. (01:22:14) What's the difference between falling into self-love and falling into thoughts where I don't do enough, I don't help the friends enough?
R. What kind of thoughts?
S. Thoughts where she doesn't feel that she's helping the friends enough.
R. I don't understand, I do not understand.
S. What should I do in a state where I feel that the friend is not helping the friends enough?
R. I help her and maybe she is incapable, she can't do it, she doesn't understand, she doesn't have the power or the urge, I need to connect with her.
S. She asked what's the difference between the difference between the thoughts of self-love, which is for myself, and that in which I feel that I'm not doing enough for the friends, it’s as if there are two egoistic desires.
R. Again.
S. Between that which I care about myself and that which I do not give enough to the friends, what's the difference between these two desires?
R. It's a great difference if I don't bestow enough, then I don't bestow enough, but not that I am drawing sucking away forces from there toward me, there's a difference. We have to work on it. It means that we're not realizing the connection in the Tens, we don't yearn for the connection, we feel an empty place, and we're still not working in it.
23. S. (01:24:33) In a state of easing, is that the state of the bride, is that a state of connecting with the friends?
R. Yes.
24. S. (01:25:00) In relation to that Torah is a revelation of the Creator to the created beings, where's the most significant revelation of the Torah, is it in reading, in the connection?
R. In connection, in connection.
S. Every expression of the revelation of the Creator to the created beings is called Torah?
R. Yes.
S. Let's say a person's walking around nature and reveals the Creator there, does that mean that he's doing some kind of Torah?
R. If he calls out like Adam the first Adam that called where are you, then yes.
