Lesson 2: Annulment as a Preparation for Ibur [Impregnation]

1. Rav’s Introduction: (1:28) This is lesson number two on the topic of annulment as preparation for Ibur, conception, impregnation. I would say this is the most current topic, very important, very central, very important to us. Why, because in this lesson we wish to scrutinize how do we begin to reveal the Creator. Which means the beginning of this spiritual entrance of a person into the spiritual world. We know that there are all kinds of verses such there is no Creator without a created being and the Creator is called Boreh, come and see, where to the extent we come to reveal Him, we reveal Him and it all depends on our vessel. The extent we are prepared for the revelation of the creator. So how does it happen? Everything starts from the fact that there is no Creator there is only Atzmuto, his essence: an abstract upper light that fills all of reality as the ARI says in the opening of his book The Tree of Life before the created beings were created there was an abstract upper light that filled all of reality and had no beginning or end’ meaning it was unlimited everything was filled with the light of infinity. What happens next, we also learn here, in this cascading from above down, but when the preparation is complete from above, how do we begin to reveal the Creator according to the same laws and conditions that He had set up from us, from above down and how do we come to it from below up, to Him? We accept that condition, and that there is nothing before us except for this abstract upper force, and how can we arrange it, how can we reveal it and connect to it? we are getting an explanation except this explanation doesn't touch us, it doesn't touch our heart. Because it's abstract it is not accepted by the heart and the heart doesn't feel the explanation the Kabbalists have given us. Nevertheless, we need to hear that the Creator is revealed according to the annulment of the Creator being. To the extent that the created being annuls his ego, his will to receive, to that extent the Creator can be revealed in that same place where the ego was if the creature annuls himself that's where there's room for the revelation of the creator. Let's say we're in the 10, we all connect in the point of connection, the center of the 10, the center of the circle between us. To the extent we can annul ourselves, each one towards the friends and by that, we arrange an empty place, a place vacant from our control. In that place we can reveal the Creator, in this way we invite him. More than that, by that we also arrange Him, we organize Him as it says ‘you have made me’ because according to the level of annulment of the ego of each one, relative to that central point the connection of each one. We place conditions on a certain character, nature and in this way the Creator is revealed meaning, the Creator is a result of the annulment of our ego. As much as each one can move himself and make room for the force of bestowal accordingly, we will make room for the Creator to appear and in this way, we reveal him. Meaning only through the annulment of a person towards the friends are we able to stabilize the image of the Creator. This is also the interpretation of the expression, the Creator stands behind every friend. Since to the extent that I annul myself towards their friends I discovered the Creator, that is right behind him. This is the meaning of ‘there is no Creator without a created being’ meaning, we turn Atzmuto, his essence into a Creator in the connection between us. To that same extent we can annul ourselves. We should not forget that only through the connection between us, can we build the Creator and make Him and without our work there's no Creator, there is his Atzmuto, his essence. Boreh, Creator, come and see, does not exist in reality. Only when we come to the connection between us and we make room in the connection between us, empty from our egos. That's why we receive the conditions for connection to the extent we can make this connection between us. From these conditions we annul ourselves towards one another so there will be a connection; then accordingly we make the Creator. I hope this is clear. Nevertheless, let's have a workshop.

Even when one is doing it towards others, he already comes closer to the revelation of the Creator to the extent he annuls himself; he has all the information, the opportunity to annul himself in that place and to the extent he annuls himself, he reveals the Creator. For the time being he reveals Him only on the aspect of Nefesh because this is annulment, later will be more active annulment and he will reveal Ruach, Chaya and Yechida and this way he will keep growing.

4. S. (22:37) Sometimes I feel a deep emptiness in my heart, what should I do in this state?

R. Remember what we are talking about now, and try to annul yourself, that's it. We have nothing else to do, this is the quickest and the cleanest work.

5. S. (23:15) We disagree with what the Kabbalists tell us to do, if there's like an inner barrier, so what is this thing that we need to take off our ego in order to be able to listen?

R. We need to talk about it more and more and more and try to reach what we discussed. If I annul myself towards the 10 through all kinds of actions, I am preparing a place for the Creator, because he is revealed only in the 10, between us.

6. S. (24:50) It said that the soul yearns to adhere with the Creator, is yearning considered Ibur?

R. No, yearning, longing can take many forms. Ibur, conception, impregnation, means that I made room in my ego for the force of bestowal to appear there, which is the Creator; in the smallest the discernment of Nefesh; this means that I am in conception.

7. S. (25:37) You sketched circles of annulment towards the friends, what are these levels of annulment?

R. This is Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Chaya, Yechida and to the extent I annul all these 5 degrees of my ego I turn them to, in order to bestow.

S. But practically wise how do I annul myself in each of the circles?

R. In practice you simply need to enroll yourself towards the friends, that's it.

8. S. (26:20) In the workshop we just had, we all agreed that we have a complete theory and intellectually we understand everything, but what we don't get is how we are supposed to expect and feel the revelation of the Creator or just be persistent and consistent in the work?

R. We need to discover the Creator with all of our senses: in all our thoughts, in our mind, and in our feeling, in our brain and heart, that He will fill us completely. That we would feel that he is filling us simply because this is the Source of our life. So, in addition to the physical life, we want to feel the spiritual life together with their Source.

9. S (27:27) Is the internal pain a measure for true annulment in each one of the stages or annulment towards the 10 can be without pain?

R. We need to overcome our ego but when we overcome it, we feel joy.

10. S. (28:06) How do I recognize the state of real annulment?

R. It's only according to the result, either the Creator has revealed or not. Before that you need to do everything possible in order to annul yourself towards the 10 and until the Creator appears in that place of your annulment.

11. S. (29:07) Prayer for the 10 is that annulment?

R. No, it's only a prayer. Don't confuse the different definitions.

S. In order to reach a true request I need annulment, I need to ask for others and not myself?

R. No, you need to ask of your annulment towards the will to receive of the others

12. S. (29:35) The Creator does not exist until we connect. We tried to connect but we can't and we reach despair. Who are we supposed to raise our prayer to the Creator that does not exist or the Force, His essence?

R. Boreh, means come and see, you don't reveal Him and you don't see Him, so all of your prayers are going to his Essence, to something that's not very clear. You have to turn to Him until you make the efforts and annul yourself towards one another and you will discover the Creator right there in the middle.

13. S. (30:40) We are very happy and excited to be in the Congress. The question is, to the extent that we annul ourselves we start to connect to their desires, even to feel the desires of all the friends and Humanity, like they are in us?

R. No it's incorrect, you cannot feel anything but yourself. When we annul ourselves, if we succeed in that, we begin to feel the force of bestowal, to the extent of our annulment, which belongs to us and to the Creator. In our restrictions we reveal the force of bestowal called the Creator. That's enough for the time being.

14. S. (31:31) What kind of preparation should there be in order for the annulment to be more effective in the 10?

R. Preparation for annulment should be simple, we think about it and talk about it and do it in the connection between us. When I wish to restrict myself to 0 as Rabash writes in the Social Writings; then according to my restriction I am rewarded, gradually, with feeling the Creator in the place of my annulment.

R. Gradually we come to constant annulment because only that is appreciated by the upper Force.

R. Try to feel everything in your heart, inside the desires, and work less with your intellect, more with the desire, more with the heart.

21. S. (39:30) How to understand better in this annulment, this void, that's created within us to which we invite the Creator?

R. Also, it's only through feelings. Think about it more and read what we are learning about. There is no mental answer for it, no rational, intellectual answer about it.

R. Only by annulling toward the group. I can measure only the extent to which I am advancing and on that, it is written in all the articles of the Kabbalists.

23. S. (41:21) It is written for Him to bend to do His will as mine, as Yours, so that He will do your will as His? What does it mean that the Creator is bending His desire? Is our path not in descent and ascent or will we need to annul all the time?

R. We are always going to advance through ascents and descents, and the Creator accordingly will relate to us.

R. We should not be afraid of our egoistic desire. We should not be afraid to demand an advancement from the Creator. We need to restrict our ego but other than our ego, there is nothing else to restrict ourselves in, rather to open ourselves up and to march ahead, that's it.

27. S. (46:54) What is the thought in the practical action when one annuls actively? Can we annul permanently, constantly?

R. Of course, everything is before us. The Creator is waiting for us to ask for His help, we just need to ask what kind of help, exactly when we wish to annul our ego in order to make room for Him to be revealed, in order to delight Him, and actually rejoice about doing it.

28. S. (47:57) How can we discover that our desire is the opposite of the Creator’s?

R. In the group, as we discussed. If we wish to annul before the friends in the group, then you are advancing correctly. There's no more than that. The discernments are very clear, very precise, very real. You don't have a clear way to annul your ego, but towards the friends, that's what all Kabbalists write about.

29. S. (49:21) How is it possible to include my annulment towards the group, and at the same time, to want to understand the teaching and its meaning, and everything?

R. Through the annulment you begin to attain the stages of annulment and of advancement towards the Creator. From that, you'll practically learn all the wisdom of Kabbalah.

30. S. (50:08) We’d very much like to annul, we're doing everything for this, and still sometimes it seems to us that we're succeeding, but again we're going to the domination of the desire to receive. What is missing?

R. Persistence. You have to constantly come back to the annulment, each one toward the ten. Then gradually, you will succeed, if together with that you turn to the Creator and you ask for His help. Not that you annul toward the ten only, but you annul and you help Him, you ask Him to help you annul that He will be your partner in your annulment. Then, in this way, everything will work itself out.

31. S. (51:18) If I have already annulled my will to receive, then why do I need to receive fulfillment in it?

R. We're not talking about such discernments that you are describing, because they are not real, realistic. Let's first annul our will to receive towards the 10, where we are, and then we'll discover the Creator at least in that first extent, in the first degree of annulment, then it will be clear where we are. For the time being, learn and make those exercises.

32. S. (52:21) If there is no Creator outside the connection between us, then does this mean that the desire of the Creator is the desire of the ten? Then, which desire of the ten is actually the desire of the Creator?

R. To bestow to one another, between the friends, is the desire of the correct ten from which it can turn to the Creator in order to bestow to Him. In our annulment we are preparing a place for the Creator to be revealed and by that we give Him contentment.

33. S. (53:09) With the help of what interaction is it possible to begin the process of annulment?

R. Very simple towards the ten, toward the group, annul yourself as much as possible and you'll start to feel that you're making room for the Creator.

34. S. (53:46) I understand that I connect to the Creator through the connection with my ten, but when I have insights, deep insights, how do I connect to the system of forces and laws?

R. You must annul yourself toward the desire of the group, toward the values of the group, annul yourself completely, restrict yourself completely. In this way, you'll begin to feel spirituality and the Creator, and the real world. Don't worry about what you want, you have complaints and thoughts, and desires. Restrict them, and in their place, you'll feel the Creator and the true spirituality.

35. S. (54:57) If, in my connection with the ten, I don't take the greatness of the Creator into consideration, am I performing an egoistic act?

R. No. If I annul myself towards the group even if I don't take the desire of the Creator into consideration, nevertheless, my action is to some extent, it is aimed properly.

39. R. (01:14:45) WSQ: What do I need to receive from the ten so it will constantly aim me towards annulment to the ten? What do I need to receive from the ten so that it will aim me towards nullification towards the ten, which is actually annulment before the Creator? That’s a question, please.

42. S. (01:24:45) If a friend is sick, tired and physically sick, but still got themselves to this congress just because of the friend, because the friend wants them to be there and they want to give contentment to the friend. Is that annulment because they’re doing it for the friend?

R. Of course, it’s annulment. Yes, clearly.

43. S. (01:25:31) If the ten has made a decision but it doesn't stick to it, nor does it scrutinize that state, so how can I annul to such a state in the ten?

R. You need to scrutinize towards what you are nullifying, and then with them you can talk about this as you don't see what you should annul before, and they should help you to find the state, the values, towards which you should annul.

44. S. (01:26:25) I was despaired because I understood that I'm unable to bestow. Then, I prayed together with the friends in the ten and I felt like I am getting force, help that is not really mine. Does this mean that the Creator answered my prayer?

R. We never have the strength to advance in spirituality, it's not like sometimes something took place here. You never have the force to truly spiritually advance, but to the extent in which I annul myself, I receive the force from above and then I can do a spiritual action.

45. S. (01:27:32) From the excerpt, it was clear that when we fall from our degree from lack of faith. What is lack of faith?

R. it’s the force of bestowal, Bina, where we don't have sufficient force of bestowal then we fall to our egos.

46. S. (01:28:07) Today we read that if a man is asking from the bottom of his heart to annul oneself, then the Creator helps him but that this state is temporary. Thanks to what can this state remain permanent? Thanks to the prayer, the prayer for the ten, the prayer for the friends, or maybe something else?

R. That is a decision from above, we cannot speak about those things. We need to try and yearn to be in increasing changes that come from annulment and bestowal from us to the ten and to the Creator. It's a good question but there's no answer that is practical at this point.

47. S. (01:29:10) In the process of annulment before the ten, we connect with the ten or is the connection some kind of an act, or an additional process?

R. No. We just need to nullify ourselves before the ten. To the extent in which we nullify, we will later see what more can be added. That we learn in the stages of Ibur (conception), Yenika (suckling), Mochin (adulthood), meaning the stages of growth, but this is revealed naturally. The main thing is to constantly annul.

48. S. (01:30:09) We have the following state, a friend that is from a long time on the path doesn't feel any taste in the work, feels heaviness, the inability to bestow, to annul before the friends. How can the ten help the friend?

R. Only by giving an example. Even words won't help, we all simply need to give examples of what we do. Well, if it doesn't help, let him leave, what can you do.

49. S. (01:30:58) What does it mean to give his soul to the Creator?

R. This will happen on its own from our annulment. We can't do this, it is done by the upper light. It builds in us the correct forms like an embryo that evolves in its mother's womb. It doesn't know how to evolve and neither does the mother, it’s the upper Force, it’s nature as we call it, that’s how it develops. We need to do the same whatever is in our strength, whatever the Kabbalists tell us and all the rest is the Creator called nature, as the numerical value is nature. That is what He will do.

52. S. (01:33:45) How do I know that I truly annulled myself and did the correct action and that I didn’t imagine it?

R. That can't be known. It can be known only according to the result, where the result is that you continue to annul.

53. S. (01:34:38) What do I need to do when I come to the 10 with a big desire to ask from the Creator? Does this mean I need to annul this desire to ask from the Creator too?

R. Yes you can. If you want to nullify, ask the Creator for the strength to nullify, for him to give you that. You can turn to the Creator for everything and ask for everything. If it goes through the desire to nullify in you, where you want to make more and more room for the Creator. And then ask for everything.

S. If I have a problem that I want to ask from the Creator by me nullifying, does this mean that I need to not want to ask the Creator about my problem?

R. I don't know how to answer exactly. It could be that there is something here but I don't know, I don’t know how to answer. I need to know exactly what we're talking about. Give me a question in a very clear way and then I will tell you what I think.

54. S. (01:36:36) In front of one friend I can cancel, in front of another a little, and in front of another I completely fail. Do I have to understand that friends are steps that the Creator sends me or I am in the confusion of the ego?

R. That is fine, continue that way from light to heavy more and more. It is the Creator arranging all of these degrees for you, very good.

55. S. (01:37:40) How to use the pain in order to work in connection and how not to fall to the ground and forget about the fact that there's none else besides him?

R. Keep holding on to the friends and the desire to annul to them as a small one to the great, and then you will certainly advance correctly.

56. S. (01:38:23) You say to annul to the 10 but they expect something from me at a time when I'm empty and disconnected. I feel if I open my mouth, I will lower the spirits of the friends and end up hiding myself and not being confronted with the situation. How do I annul to the 10 and participate without lowering their mood to the state I am in?

R. To nullify with them shows that you are annulling. It's not that you're empty and sad. to nullify means you want to advance the society, the 10 with all of your forces as much as possible, that is called to nullify.

S. Let's say we are in a gathering of friends and the friends ask you to speak but there's no preparation for it. You come to the gathering of friends, you want to annul the friends, you want to participate, but you are so disconnected inside you cannot even find the words to speak. There is such a disconnection from your emotion and your mind, like you’re completely split in two. So, you feel that if you do say something it feels like you're just lowering the mood of everybody and destroying the spirit that the friends are trying to create. How do I not make this damage to them?

R. Shut your mouth in such a situation because you are certainly not benefiting them, not because you're not willing, but because you're not ready to do it. You are not allowed to participate in society if you're not ready to bring forth their advancement. You are not contributing to yourself anything by this either. Just sit down and be silent, annul before them in silence This is what you are capable of doing.

57. S. No translation.

R. (01:41:16) No, because you want to advance towards the quality of bestowal and connection. Interpret a little more what you are asking for and then you will see if you should ask for it or not. If it is an egoistic request then you shouldn't, if it is a request that is coming closer to bestowal, to annulment, then it is worthwhile.

58. S. (01:42:04) How not to see and not to hear what you see and hear?

R. What do you see and what you hear, even that you don't hear and you don’t see.

R. You need to organize this yourselves in a way that there will be room for everyone. I cannot say anything about that. Pray to the Creator for Him to help you connect and be together. There is no other answer here.
