Working in Ascents and Descents - Selected Excerpts from the Sources, #25
1.Rav’s Introduction: We are working to shift from the will to receive in order to receive to in order to bestow. Everything that is in our thoughts, desires, actions, everything that happens to us we have to shift it from one place, purportedly to another place until we've shifted it. It is called the second state, the intermediary state, the state of work. The first state is when we discover we are all immersed in the desire to receive in one place and the third place is the goal we have to reach. Like ants shifting and moving from one place to another, from the desire to receive in order to receive to bestow in order to bestow, and even receive in order to bestow. This is the work and we have to get used to operating in this, we have to do this to work in the ten, to help one another, to know how to pray and to ask, to get organized in our overall organization to make our work easier and quicker, more comfortable and joyful with a constant elation in every activity that we do.
Shifting from in order to receive to in order to bestow contentment upon the Creator and accordingly we begin to feel Him, we begin to become partners with Him. Where we begin the work and the Creator finishes it. We have to hurry, as much as we can to finish the work as we are already in it to some extent. Each of us and all of us together. The thing is that the Creator wants us to scrutinize our partnership. One has to help one another so that through this work we will connect and stop thinking, each one about himself. We are in the state when we begin to identify our will to receive which separates us from the Creator and from our goal, but mainly that we will help one another, that is why the work should be in mutual help. No one can move from state one to state three through state two, but rather state two is our work in connecting among us, and to the extent of our connection, we advance from state one to state three. This is why we need to constantly understand that the work is not to run ahead because ahead means closer to each other, more connected, helping each other more, to be included more in one another -- this is called running forward, running ahead. We will try to establish these relationships between us in such a way that it will be with us all the time.

2. R. That is our main scrutiny of where we are and normally after we scrutinize and criticize our situation, we see that we are in some place in the middle. And we even have perhaps a decline along the way and instead of advancing, we are falling deeper and deeper into our ego and it becomes difficult for us to overcome it. Overcoming again is not forward to the Creator, we should interpret it correctly as becoming more and more tighter and tighter with the friends because there between us and inside is the Creator, this is where he hides. Then accordingly we have to activate ourselves through the connection, the internal connection between us where we desire for connection with the friends, more than we desire for the Creator, otherwise we will mislead ourselves into thinking that our goal to reach the Creator is elsewhere besides the center of the ten. This is certainly incorrect; this is how we will advance.

3. S. What does it mean to get a benefit from the descent?
R. Initially, we received from the Creator a broken system of Adam, 100% broken. From a state where it was completely connected, Adam HaRishon, as it was written, he was a creation of the Creator and it went through the shattering. The shattering of the desire to receive that the Creator created in it, suddenly the desire to receive jumps from a state of smallness, when a person is like an angel, like a beast, an animal. It is under the complete control of the Creator, having nothing of himself, not in his mind or in his heart. However, the Creator operating him is showing him how he is operated. This is a desire to receive, before the breaking, which is called Adam HaRishon, the first man because it is the initial state. Afterwards, the desire to receive grows in him to the level the Creator wants it to grow, meaning to the level that the Creator wants a person to grow to afterwards, that desire to receive that grows in a person is a desire for himself to enjoy for himself.
That desire is called the serpent, the serpent, that is it. A person who has no choice, with this huge desire to receive wants to devour everything in front of him. Meaning the relation of the Creator, the light of the Creator and the Creator himself, he wants it to be his to enjoy it, this is called Adam HaRishon during the sin. Afterwards, through this big desire that formed in him, that system breaks. ‘Breaks’ means that all of the desires become distinct, they move away from one another, feeling that no one belongs to another. That is how Adam HaRishon divided into 600,000 pieces, one desire divides into 60,000 pieces and more pieces and more pieces until we begin to feel that we are those pieces and we who are those pieces beginning to feel that we are antagonistic toward each other, that each one is an egoist on a small scale. The situation where we feel that each of us is an egoist and wants only for his own benefit and is disconnected from the others, meaning that he doesn't feel himself indebted or connected to the others, that he just wants to enjoy using them. Not that he has any common feeling with them. Just a feeling that each one feels himself and wants to satisfy himself, this is called Adam HaRishon after the sin, when his soul is divided meaning the feeling of being one divided into 600,000 particular souls, individual souls, individual parts, pieces. Where each one feels with respect to the other only one thing, how can I benefit and succeed in satisfying myself by using everyone. This is called the egoistic desire that formed in them after the breaking.
Our whole work after we go through some time, meaning changes within us, recognition of evil, the feeling of emptiness, because we are in a state called the animate level of where besides this, we have nothing. A then we grow through the records that remain for us from the level of the corrected Adam when we were in one system, when the records gradually revealed to us from that stage and then we begin to connect, we begin to come closer to each other, we build besides families also some connections of tribes, and nations. We begin to move each of us from our own places into other places as we migrate and discover new nations and new continents. It is all through the awakening of those desires, those records from the breaking which awaken us to return to connection. In this way we advance.
There is a lot to talk about, here, but it is not that important to us because it is interesting to study it. But we need to connect it all to the emergence of the records and how those records operate. Columbus, Magellan, all of those people who opened up more and more parts of the pieces of Adam, who went so far apart and how they did it, of course through their ego’s by conquering nations, connecting them among themselves. In this way, by working egotistically, they gradually approach connections. Today, we see by looking at history and what is happening today, how we are already in an accelerated process of connecting among us. This is done especially, not by revealing more new tribes and nations, but by being in trouble, the pandemic, the desire to exploit one another, to succeed not through the elevation of blind nature but through our own technological advancements. This way we come to a stage where we become more and more connected.
Let's say we learned the wisdom of Kabbalah which is the science of the structure of the world and the correction of the world. For the first time in history, there is such a thing where we study it in a framework that is worldwide. Where the whole vessel of Adam is invited, it is summoned, and according to the level of desire in each one, each one may come and join. This is why it is considered that we are in the last generation, the beginning of the last generation. We are implementing with you that system of correction which should eventually bring the entire broken vessel of Adam HaRishon back into correction, and this is all work. And it is certain that we are already in it. Let us hope that we will not only continue it but that we will also finish it. Everything else besides those who approach and gather with us should be passive, a little more active than today to relate themselves to us, but still, we need to understand that there is the point of Keter, the group of Bnei Baruch which desires the third state, which is the end of correction. And the rest, well also to the end of correction, but according to the desire that is revealed to them, they desire only to have a good life, to get over the pandemic, to have a nice vacation, well a good life.
The desires are still not awakening more within them and will not awaken by themselves. Let's say by looking at an animal that has a ton of flesh and look at the weight of the brain that operates it, this tiny marble and in it a microprocessor operating this entire beast. This is why it says you are the least among the nation's, about us, those who desire the final correction. This is why we need to be very respectful toward our desire, our disposition toward the Creator, to develop it by helping one another. This is basically our work right now. Let's hope that we will very quickly hasten our development in the connection between us and also how to draw, to pull the whole world after us in order to bring them not in a state that they begin to study and understand where they are but only to know that through connecting this huge body of a cow to a tiny brain, by connecting the two this whole body will also feel good. We will get from the body all kinds of discernment that it will be able to work on in order to bestow and specifically by connecting to the body we will begin to bestow upon the Creator because we don't have these big desires that exist in all of humanity. And when they connect to us, they will feel that they can understand the process that they are in, what is ahead of them and how they can improve their lives to recover from the pandemic, from the virus and maybe work out other things. To improve their regular worldly life and this is how we will advance.
4. S. (24:06) What are the reasons a student can fall forever into the hands of the Sitra Achra, the other side?
R. We still don't really understand where in us is the Kedusha, Holiness and where is the Sitra Achra, the other side, but simply stated, when it is discerned where my desire to bestow upon the friends or to bestow upon me, contrary to their friends. These are the differences between the Kedusha, Holiness and the Sitra Achra, the impurity. So, this is how we have to try to discern and distinguish between them and to constantly be on the side of Kedusha. When we are on the side of Kedusha, meaning having the disposition to connect internally in our hearts to the friends to build one heart and to discover the Creator there, we have to strengthen this heart to attribute as much as possible all of our desires, thoughts and actions. Accordingly, when the heart grows stronger, we will feel ourselves that this is how we are advancing towards correction.
5. S. (25:56) You gave a description of the development of humanity from the emergence of the Reshimot, the records. Can you describe what is the difference between the records in our time, from the entire ego that has developed this far that is developing the world?
R. Yes, we learned that the system that the Creator created was complete, afterwards by revealing in it a bigger egoistic desire on the degrees of three and four, a real desire to receive, that system broke. It is called that the real evil inclination formed in them and when these desires wanted all ready to receive in order to receive and as a result of that the breaking happened. Through the breaking, these pieces have stopped being connected. On the other hand, they also began to become contradictory to each other, to oppose one another so that each one was not only disconnected from the others, they wanted to connect in order to extract from the other everything that they saw that they could use to benefit themselves. This is called the real ego, when I'm not connected to the others, it's like a baby who feels no connection to the other people. Afterwards when it grows and the desire to receive in him grows and he wants to have this and this and that, and this is how he develops.
The fact that the breaking took place, first of all disconnected us from one another and we began to see how we could afterwards use one another, benefit by using each other. This is when the development of humanity began when it began to arrange in bigger groups and families, because the family really is the animate level. Humanity began with several families and tribes which became nations in order to grow stronger and benefit and succeed more compared to others. This is how humanity developed. On the human level the desire to receive also developed on all of its levels of Root, One, Two Three and Four, when the desire developed into the desire to know and use nature, developing how to hunt animals and how to eat them in a certain way. In other words they started developing the clothing and textile industry, shoes and things they needed in order to survive. This is how the desire to receive started through its corporeal clothing instead of its internal spiritual clothing. From this the world began to develop by the shattering to the externality. This is the way it is to this day as we are developing only towards externality, we are already coming to a stage where we really see the relative end of our corporeal development. Because planet Earth is limited, because our desires are quite limited and it turns out that we have come to the end of the road.
Many philosophers and thinkers have already written about it, besides the Kabbalists who wrote about it many years ago. Now we are coming to a state where we have to really do some serious introspection, all of us together, all of humanity, all of the pieces of Adam. We must really reflect on what is going to happen with us, what is to become of us and where are we going. We see as we are advancing we can no longer move from success to success because we are going from crisis to crisis. We can really feel that we are in a trap, that the circle is closing in and everything we tried to do, eventually with all of our intellect and technology and everything that we have with our philosophies and psychology, everything that we want to build does this end up helping us, benefiting us? On the contrary it harms us as we can't maintain our families, our children, we don't see a good future for our corporeal life. We don't see that people enjoy during their lives, even though life grew three or four times as long as before, previously people lived 20 or 25 years. Today they live 4 times as long, what for? There's only one benefit in this, look how you live your entire life and what do you have left? You feel even emptier and you live pointlessly and you are leaving these things without any benefit, even your children can't enjoy them and also your relationship with your kids, your mutual relationship with them is also such that you don't feel that you are really indebted to each other.
People don't want to have children, or the next generation, we are really reflecting and introspecting. This is what we want to understand and explain to all of humanity. That here is our tipping point, that we have to discover the mistake, the nothingness, the great mistake that humanity is making by wanting to develop its desire and satisfy it as quickly as possible and with all kinds of things that emerge in it without tending to the intention of what am I doing this for, but only for the desire to receive. In other words, to rise a little higher than their desire with the question of what for. This is what we have to do, what we have to awaken in humanity and the Creator is doing this through the general crisis and we will see it soon, how through these waves of this pandemic and other problems that will come, that result or not result from it. They will bring humanity into despair from this whole evolutionary process and also through our own participation and explanation we will come to a stage where in the end, let's hope it happens quickly and without any war along the way, just for example this pandemic is also a short way, it is rather quick because after two or three years we are already beginning to think differently than before. Our values are changing and that is how we will advance, we just need to add to the whole process that the Creator is taking humanity through, as we also need to add what we can add. The purpose of life, the reason for this whole development. Meaning to show humanity how to add a little bit of understanding to humanity, a little bit of feeling of the process itself. This is a very respectable role, let us hope that we will do this.
S. (36:37) This is very clear but what is happening behind the scenes with the desperation because we can no longer be fulfilled from each other?
R. Yes this is called the end of the crisis, a crisis doesn't mean that we want to succeed but cannot. So we want to succeed more and we still can't. A crisis means that I am beginning to discover that through this kind of attitude to life I will never succeed. This is really the end of history.
S. (37:24) A new history where we find a new kind of fulfillment? What is a new history?
R. The new history is when we are looking for a new feeling, a new satisfaction with a new process but mainly a new goal. We will see in history as being here on tiny earth and developing our relationship to the point where each one is satisfied. This we can see that the more we develop the direction, the technological development is one thing and the satisfaction from life is something completely opposite going in the opposite direction where we have more worries and problems between people and they are less satisfied with what is happening to them. Instead of having vacations, free time and some sort of relief they feel more and more locked, caged in their apartments as they are afraid of going out of the house.
We are not taking into consideration the egoistic development in each person so even though technologically we are developing, internally in each of us we are developing in the opposite direction, the ego is developing more and more. I want to dominate others more and, in our society, instead of becoming more cohesive as opposed to what we had for example in previous systems, when we lived in villages, or in small towns or even before when we were in the caves with all kinds of clans. Today no one wants to know other people, each one wants to go home and lock himself inside and not belong to anyone because he already doesn't know who's living next to him and with what evil intention they have. We have come to a stage where our lives are becoming more and more, instead of opening up to us new horizons they are closing us deeper and deeper inside, in addition to the pandemic and whatever follows it.
We will really feel ourselves and as much as we would like to go out to enjoy, to travel we cannot do this. The Creator gradually closes us inside more and more. Look at the prison you are in, it is how your will to receive determined and this is what you are coming to if you don't connect as the correction is only in connection but we will understand even without the wisdom of Kabbalah. As it will happen through dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah, we can awaken humanity more quickly but even without the wisdom of Kabbalah they will discover they have no choice. That they will have to stop with weapons, locking themselves behind the closed doors each one. On the contrary we have to come to a state where we have to connect with one another and this can happen only through education. When we develop people so they begin to understand that positive development can only happen by people getting closer. This is why now we are in this very special time where we are going into an arms race, into much worse states. When man to man is a wolf, a dog-eat-dog situation. So, either we are going for this or we are really going to implement the method of connection and we have to set an example called being a light to the Nations. The more that we unite and through our connection we reveal the greater power of connection, the essence of connection, the light of connection, humanity will begin to feel there is something here and they will see in the nations that God has done greatly with them. By this they will change their relation from hatred to connection and love.
S. (43:36) Light for the nations means to show that connection is the new fulfillment?
R. Yes, exactly this, we can't show anything but that as we also have nothing to show against the ego that is working in everyone and in us it works more than in everyone and they look at us as a most egoistic group, the most egoistic nation and we have to show this is actually the right connection, above the ego. And each one individually and internally wanting to gain and succeed. We rise above this, to connection between us, wanting to help each other and through the love of others we come to the upper force that is revealed and by this we build the Creator. Out of the contradictions and hatred between us when we begin to, called with faith above reason, feel the connection between us above this that when we on top of the hatred we build the connections of love and connection, this network that we build is called Shechina, Divinity. And its essence the power operating in it is the Creator and this way we discover in practice the upper nature.
S. (45:27) We should aim for this in advance, the satisfaction and adhesion?
R. Who?
S. The method of connection that's being revealed of the method for the new feeling, the revelation of the Creator you described now, as a result for Humanity, they don't aim for it?
R. They are aiming for the good life, on their degrees there are also people who are closer to us to some extent and those who are farther away, but what characterizes them is that according to the records that remain in them from the shattering of the system Adam HaRishon is that they don't have the inner records, Reshimot that comes out of the fact that this was a single vessel and therefore a true inclination towards connection, they don't have it. It will become revealed more and more also in us. It is hard to reveal. After we try and perform all kinds of mechanical actions without any desire, nevertheless we do them because we have something that is tempting us and we want to reach the revelation of the Creator's so we have to do this out of lack of choice. The force works on us and also through the surrounding light in such an indirect way it works on us. Then it will be even more difficult that they will have it at all, the most important is to understand that life can exist only in the form of getting closer. This is why the whole path is a path of connecting between us, disseminating the connection between us and the more that we developed between us also, the method of connection with a more and more powerful manner through connections and gatherings, with each and everything that can hold us along with us learning about it from the manuscripts from the Kabbalistic texts in relation to the others, in humanity, we just have to explain to them that connection between us eventually needs to bring us peace and safety, that is relatively clear. However, we need to extend this explanation through us to them, we are extending to them the reforming light to them and they begin to understand that we are talking to the point that we are bringing them the force of connection, the upper force and this is very important. They will understand that through us they are receiving the direction and the way of development, a ray of light.
6. S. (49:06) We read that Rabash spoke about man's relationship to the Creator and only in these articles, if we take into consideration the social articles, it is man and the Creator, if we exclude the articles. Now we are learning about connection, about our work in the 10 through connection and disseminating throughout the world, so the question is can we understand this as an appendix of the study, can we think or evaluate that today if Rabash saw the process he would change his focus? Between us and the Creator and the Creator and us?
R. No, I don't know. Overall, of the years that I was studying and I was next to Rabash, I cannot say that it was this way. And also, it doesn't appear to be this way from all of the text. Connection between the friends and also in the Zohar, especially there, it is written, we have to search for it. The question is actually good, we should ask of our friends who are helping us to find the correct excerpts, the correct verses, that they will gather it for us to what extent it is impossible to get to the Creator unless it is through connection between the friends. Because, otherwise, it is not considered connection with the Creator. Unless you beforehand to some extent at least actualize some connection between the friend, otherwise how are you connecting and getting closer to Him? To be connected to Him you already have to be in a structure of 10 Sefirot to some extent, otherwise how will you have a grip on it, how will He create and clothe in you, to be in contact with you? It has to be as it says, “10 not 9 or 11”, you see, and that does not change, the structure does not change, and this method cannot change. It stems from the structure of the four phases of Direct Light that comes from the Creator -- this is how He builds the will to receive -- and so within the will to receive is where it all happens.
7. S. (52:26) The shattering into 600,000 souls is a disconnection between us. And today in the technological era, technology wants to control birth and death, and people don't want to hear about the Creator. So, is this shattering, disconnection between us and also from the Creator, or only between us?
R. I think that our evolution, our development, technologically and in general, will nevertheless bring us to the necessity to discover the Creator, who is the Creator? It is the inner force which exists inside matter and operates the matter, and when we, now, want to perform certain actions then out of the fact that we are engaging with large bodies of matter and smaller ones, and then to more subtle forces of the molecules and atoms, and even nowadays we are even engaging in particles and lasers. We want to reach a state where we are holding onto, we’re grasping the forces of nature in such a way that we can use them and control them. Through them, we can build certain materials but it is not going to work because, there, specifically, we discover to what extent we are not capable of advancing. We will invest more and more, and it won't work for me. We will have to realize that reaching the essence and purpose of life, even succeeding with technology, with the families, and each and everything that we do on the face of the earth, we cannot do this without us discovering the inner force that exists within all of that. We cannot -- it is like little children eventually after they play with all kinds of toys and everything, they can make something and build something out of it and then we reach out to the mother and they cry that it is not working for them. This is how we, now, during our time specifically are in a state of introspection. That we have nowhere to advance unless we will get to know the inner force that exists in the whole of nature. That we must not relate to nature as though it exists on its own, and we are also parts of nature and we can control it. We are discovering how much we don't understand where we are. Bit by bit, Nature is teaching us. Look at the blows of nature that we are receiving and may receive. Maybe I didn't quite understand your question, however, I already see in the near future that humanity will start to despair from its whole development and it will start to disregard all of the outcomes out of its development because it will start to discover how much all of these things were done only because somebody is trying to make a profit, to succeed at the expense of others. But all-in-all, it doesn't bring people any happiness.
S. In what does the connection between us bring about the revelation of the Creator? What will bring the revelation of the Creator?
R. The revelation of the Creator can only be by the connection between us meaning the egoistic desires that are at a certain distance from one another with antagonism between them, how should I say antagonism? Resistance, oppositeness between them, those desires cannot connect. It's like in an atom where you have particles that reject one another and they don't want to connect, however, on the other hand, there is a force that is pushing them together, activating them as a single system and by that they are able to coexist. And out of that matter is built and masses of matter, etc. It is the same with us, we see, here, there is a problem, we cannot be connected in a correct form with one another, it is becoming more apparent, more and more. And with this pandemic, we will discover the true reason for all of these germs, these viruses that are coming out of all of the different holes. That it is all only a result of our egoistic desire by which we are rejecting one another, we hate one another, and by that, we are emphasizing all of the negative parts in nature and they are coming out, beginning to hinder and disturb us, to control us. So, we will learn these things as humanity will learn eventually, discovering there is nothing bad besides the relations between us and to create good relations between us, not through Marx or any left-wing theories of any kind but only through the wisdom of Kabbalah.
8. S. (01:00:03) How can we unite with the quality of unity? How do we become this ‘magical glue’?
R. We will learn that: how do we connect? Well, we try to do this in the 10 but it is a different method from what they need to do, the whole of humanity. They don't need to do it to such an extent. Well, first of all, they’ll receive through us the upper force that would connect them. They will want to come to us out of lack of choice, because they will feel from above through us that only we have some method, some force of connection. It says in Torah that these things need to be built. In that, there is nothing that would be difficult, out of lack of choice everyone will just run there.
9. S. (01:01:22) How can we give joy and fulfillment to the people you describe as ‘the body’?
R. If we, ourselves, have the importance of the process that we're going through: that indeed we are on the right path towards the special goal and we are entering a state called Ein Sof, and we need to distinguish between the state that we're in through the upper force, we are already inside the Creator, we exist in Him, He is developing us, this is one state that we're in. And the second state is that we exist under the rule of the will to receive which the Creator is revealing to us, on purpose, that we will ascribe ourselves even more to Him. It’s like you’re holding a baby or a little child in your hands and he wants to run away in different directions, and in order for him not to run away in some direction, you scare him. “Look, look! what's there?” And then he attaches himself to you even more. This is how we need to realize our state. We are on the hands of the Creator, the entire 10 -- each and every 10 -- and to the extent that we want to run away from one another, He is scaring us, doing all sorts of exercises to us so that we will connect even more between ourselves and to Him. If we will do it on our own, then our development will be more rapid and good, and smooth. Then everyone, all of the people, will feel, all of those around us, that this development is more fulfilling and more successfully.
10. S. (01:04:02) How can we increase demands for connection with the friends?
R. I need to be envious of the friends, I need to see how united they are and how much more successful they are, how they are keeping the times, the connections. And out of envy, I will also advance, and this is how we should deliberately, each one should awaken the envy in the others. It is a truly great force towards advancement.
11. S. (01:05:04) Technology allows us to work on our connection but in the rest of humanity, it works towards more separation, so the feeling of unity that humanity will feel in us, will it be some sort of visual perception, thanks to technology, or some internal perception?
R. It’s a more internal perception however we will reach this in our development in a more natural way.
12. S. (01:05:53) In our dissemination, should we give humanity hope and solutions for a better life or should we share with them the yearning for connection and the correction of our will to receive?
R. We need to go forward, as it says, ‘educate the boy according to his way’. I need to take his way, his goal whatever he wants, and bit by bit, to explain to him that in order to reach that goal, it is possible through whatever I am proposing to him. Then he will have to have happily taken our method in order to actualize his goal. Then along the way, when he will engage in my work to achieve his goal, he will also see that his goal is not good enough and needs to be altered. And this is how he will change. It is as we see it in ourselves, we are told that it is possible to reach a state where you will receive the spiritual world, the eternal world, you'll discover the Creator, you'll be connected to Him so start engaging in the wisdom of Kabbalah. So, we start to engage in the wisdom of Kabbalah and suddenly, we discovered that we have to reach connection between us. We have to break our ego, we have to rise above our ego, and we have to be in a connection which is opposite our nature. There is nothing more opposite to our nature. This is how we advance. That is, we need to show the goal and along the way, the fact that a person changes, so he will change but the most important thing is to always pull him to the goal. To make the goal greater all the time. That there is no choice and that's the highest, eternal and it’s for everyone, and eventually, nevertheless, everyone will have to go there. So as much as possible, we open up to the person and he advances and as he advances, he changes. Rabash would say you are walking with your wife somewhere in the city, so you have a goal to reach a certain state or place and she's telling you, no, we have to go across the street, here or there. Okay, fine, go with her and cross the street wherever she’s telling you. The most important thing is to reach the goal that you have determined. That's why they call it “educate the boy according to his way”. According to his way, this is how you should educate him until eventually he will reach your goal.

R. You need more than 2 hours a week but to use that internally to hold intention to awaken the public that's it this all has to cook inside us between us.
