Baal HaSulam. The Freedom (The Mind’s Control over the Body)

Reading. (01:23) “Some external contemporary sages, after contemplating the above matter..”

1. R. (08:57) This is relatively clear. If we would not get information from previous generations then it would seem like each generation is just starting its existence on planet Earth, from the beginning, like the first generation. But only because there is connection between the generations and from that we can convey, we can transfer knowledge and concepts from generation to generation and that is why each generation has become more advanced compared to animals. They too, have such incorporations to a lesser, much lesser extent but, nevertheless, you cannot compare it with humans. Where with each generation we see how the next generation is more developed, wiser, more intelligent, knows how to protect itself and obtain what is desired.

2. S. (10:17) What forms does the article discuss and should we consider them in a personal way or in a social way?

R. Both. Both, in the personal form, the form of groups, the form of society and all of humanity. That is how we advance from generation to generation. Which is why it is important for us to receive from past generations everything they have. To see if we are able to digest them properly, to take them incorrectly and to deliver them to the next generation and to the extent that we can add what we have acquired in our generation to what we have received from the past generation. Then we are giving the next generation the greatest gift that they can receive from each generation on a human level. There is something like that even with animals, but for them it is the results of life experiences where they pass on from one another, from generation to generation, but only in such a way to protect from harming elements and approach beneficial elements. That is how they teach their offspring.

3. S. (12:28) Accordingly, should we be in a better and better state from one generation to the next?

R. You might be right if we didn't have the evil inclination but we are not animals that only accumulate life experience from their progenitors, but we are also in our egoistic will to receive. So, each and every moment we are between the evil inclination and the good inclination and wherever we are pulled that is how we act. Hence,, the more advanced we are, the more developed we are the more we suffer.

S. What is positive and negative and harmful in development? 

R. If we can’t see the end. If we can’t see the reason then from generation to generation we suffer more harm basically. That's how we evolve. If there was to be on the Earth a few thousand people, if they connected, waged war then that would be enough to pull up the generation. Today it is not enough. Today we need to have very complex connections between us with nuclear weapons, with all kinds of things, with everything we can re-generate or reproduce, nevertheless,  no one feels himself safe and secure the next moment. Meaning the technique, the technology, our development, it works in the opposite way. They bring us to a state where we are not certain about ourselves, nor about our nature, not about any forms of our connection or anything. On the contrary, our connection, the more we connect more and more we see that this connection is not working for our benefit.

S. I understand if we saw the final form then we could use development in a good way?

R. Yes but how to show it to people?

S. How does development look if we could see the final form? Can we depict that?

R. Yes but no one would want it. No, we all work for everyone. No-one is working for himself, but only for others. What kind of people you can attract to such a form? This has to be in internal correction. A person is satisfied with how he lives and he feels alive when he fulfills the other. Like a mother who gives a spoonful of food to her baby. He takes it and swallows it. How happy is he? Do you have such relationships between people right now?

S. Let’s say that there was such a relationship? What does development mean in such a state?

R. Hitkalelut. Each one is incorporated in everyone. Everyone cares about everyone and then we are at Gmar Tikkun.

S. And everything that we call development today, science, technology, all of these things?

R. That is only to bring us the necessity of connecting correctly. Technical development simply separates and complicates us and we need to shuffle and reveal the connections between us and see how they need to be connected in different ways.

4. S. (18:40) How is it possible to see the final form of development in egoistic Kelim? It is clear that a Kabbalist could see that but most of the society's not ready for that and would receive it as some new religion.

R. No, we have to bring society to a state where, as it is written, ‘And who else should know me, from the littlest to the biggest.’  That is it. Each and everyone on the face of the planet would feel that they belong to the upper force, the force of bestowal and the more we keep the commands of this force we enter the feeling of paradise, really.

S. Yes we do very great efforts in our society to disseminate and bring this message to many people so that it will be a better world; that it would be like the garden of Eden; like heaven. Why are we different from religion?

R. We have a method to reach such a state corporeally. Rationally, we do not obligate anyone to believe anything. Rather we explain which laws of the world that we base our ideas on as Baal HaSulam and Rabash write.

5. S. (21:05) Today in the intellectual degree we are in we look backward, and we see the degrees that we developed that were incorrect and today with the pace of intellectual development today the next generations always disqualify the previous generation. How can we move to a better state?

R. To realize meticulously everything that Baal HaSulam and Rabash tell us and the main thing is to get whatever one doesn't do, to let the other one do it, and another one and another one. We are in Arvut. In complementary relationships.

S. We need to hold on to that whole series of developments that it has led us to today and appreciate it?

R. Yes.

6. S. (22:20) This part is called the mind's control over the body and it says that the mind’s control isn't necessary in order to recognize evil and to distance ourselves from it. The recognition of evil, is it a necessary part of the process?

R. How can you advance without the left foot?

7. S. (24:30) A question about free choice. From the previous paragraph it is written, even though there is free choice to choose books, teachers and friends that bring a person good thoughts. Many times new students ask about whether free choice is only in an environment of Kabbalists or is there free choice in other societies that a person goes through from one corporeal society to a more advanced one?

R. No. We cannot say it. Their free choice is possible only when you follow the path of the Wisdom of Kabbalah. That is what we are talking about when we talk about free choice it does not relate to any other path.

8. S. (26:00) In the last paragraph that we read it says that the Torah and prophecy advise him to accept it without self-understanding and come to these concepts. How do we pass spiritual attainment from one generation to the next?

R. We cannot pass spiritual attainment from one generation to the next. It is not possible to be done by a person: it is the upper light that shines on several people that have the longing that belong to the Kelim of bestowal. They receive this as an illumination from above and they pass it on to their generations: only in this way. Just like you see with Baal HaSulam his father was not a Kabbalist, his first teacher was not a Kabbalist. He was drawn and attracted to it. He visited his teacher and then he found the book by the Ari, then he ran off to buy the book and started studying. And after a few months he understood that his teacher, his Rav, is not suitable for him and he needs to go to someone greater, higher and he started to look for one that did not work out for him, but he eventually found one. There are all kinds of stories about that. There are those that are not suitable, not compatible, the student and the teacher according to the style of study, the style of thinking, the analysis of the material, the very scrutinies; they are incompatible and then the student departs from the teacher. That also happens. What can you do? In our lives we see everything happening and we need to understand that we do not understand everything. We cannot check or verify everything. We cannot control everything. Rather, ultimately, it is clarified over many lifetimes.

9. S. (29:24) The article talks about how there is this disconnect between spirituality and corporeality. What does Kabbalah say about this?

R. What is corporeal? What is spiritual?

S. It is written in the excerpt that there are these external teachers that have this disconnect between them? What does Kabbalah say about this disconnect?

R. The wisdom of Kabbalah says that everything is one force and this one force controls all forms of nature. Transparently, He goes through everything and this is how He runs everything; manages it.

S. What is lacking in external wisdoms that Kabbalah has that prevents that from happening?

R. They do not know the foundation on which nature relies what is managing, controlling, governing it. They do not know it. Try to talk to them about it. Scrutinize it and you will see.

10. S. (30:43) I want to talk about the matter of technology in the world. For thousands of years humans have used technology to make life easier and in the last few years that technology that we invent is replacing parts of our thoughts. For example, these little computers, once a person finishes school and you had to composite things together. Today you don’t have to do that. You just put a number in, and the computer solves it for you. In the last few weeks there was this computer program created which can even write songs and articles. It is really a wondrous thing. Where is all this going? People become dumber; I do not know how to put it in any other way but this is the outcome of all of this technology. This is where it's going and why is it going that way?

R. I think we are disconnecting from what used to fill our feelings, our intellect in the previous generations and we do not care much about it but maybe we do care about it but nevertheless we are moving away from it and gradually we are entering a new stage. How should I put it, we do not need to make calculations with numbers, we do not need to make comparisons between different equations, we do not need to memorize by heart all kinds of compositions. That is not what is important to us. If you remember what we learned in school, we have to memorize all kinds of things such as history, geography, calculus, and many things in physics, in every area. And what for? Because the more you remember the more you know. And today we are moving to the next stage where using computers, using devices at the tip of your fingers, you can disconnect from memory. There is no problem of memory whenever you need something you can simply call it out of the memory. Also with respect to various  formulas. I remember how it was a wonder how much we had to memorize and how many things we had to memorize. Today, no, everything is going to logical form. Can you correctly arrange the connections in your brain, in your heart and can you work with them more uniformly whereby both the brain and the heart are approaching mutual work and you will soon see how man, as we say in the wisdom of Kabbalah, in his brain and in his heart, when they work together and they collaborate, accordingly he is appreciated. I really hope this will not happen formally as we learned in school when we had to memorize it and talk about it in the lesson or in the test. We will be connected between us more emotionally. I do not have exactly the words.

S. All of this progress that we see in technology. Its goal at the end of it all is that will remain in a person is the emotion and maybe the connection between people and besides of the facts and the analysis, so there are machines that will do that for you. Is that where it's going?

R. Yes. It is moving towards an emotional system, an emotional system. We enter into an intellectual system; mental. We used to respect those systems greatly and we thought that this was the crown of humanity but in truth we will see again that man, a person will be appreciated by his feeling and how deep is his feeling and can connect to one network with the feelings of other people. And everything will take place in the feeling, in the emotional system, in the emotional network. Because this is really the network of the Creator.

S. Is that the next step of evolution you could say of humanity?

R. Yes.

11. S. (38:10) What is the advantage of the emotional system over the intellectual system?

R. The emotional system works on the degree of man. The intellectual system works on the level of the intellect. And so we can build the mental or intellectual system, we can manage it, we can even connect it to our minds and brains and the other way around and the emotional system we cannot do it. We cannot understand it, connect to it, or control it in any way, shape, or form. But step-by-step we will understand it in the same way that we are able to bring it to that scale; the one common denominator which you will be, ‘love your friend as yourself.’ Then we will be able to feel the other and when we begin to feel the other from that we will acquire absolute knowledge of everything: each and everything. Well, that is ahead of us.

S. Will the study of the wisdom of Kabbalah also change as a result of that?

R. The wisdom of Kabbalah constantly adapts itself to the development of people. I think we will also change the method of our study. It will become more emotional, more to do with our feelings and how we are coming closer to one another.

S. Interesting, so from this emotion we will also understand the science of  Kabbalah?

R. Sure. What is the wisdom of Kabbalah? A science, maybe a dry science but in truth it is all feelings. It is the will to receive, the will to bestow, Reshimo, coming closer and moving apart. They are all emotional places in our consciousness. In our awareness we connect to the wisdom of Kabbalah only through emotions and feelings. I remember that I did not understand when Rabash tried to explain it; that it is a feeling. How can that be such a high exalted wisdom that it is all the feeling?

S. Is it possible to reach that? Let's say, we study the Talmud Eser Sefirot, and you also studied the Talmud Eser Sefirot with Rabash all the time, as far as I know. Can we reach that emotionally and then we can read and understand and reach emotion?

R. Typically we read it and then we understand it emotionally but that is in our time but maybe we'll reach a different order.

12. S. (42:20) I feel that when we read the article Baal HaSulam is trying to explain to us that there is a special force that influences all of humanity very efficiently and humanity is the highest degree of all of creation and he is inviting us to join him in his work. Maybe you can tell us something about it because I feel it is a great source of inspiration for us. It is a special opportunity. It is something truly beautiful that we have before us, what we can do all over the world, to the whole world.

R. Can someone add to what he said?

S. Previously, following Baal HaSulam in the article, ‘The Freedom,’ is inviting us to work. I cannot add, sorry.

R. Maybe someone can ask instead of him.

S. I really feel that Baal HaSulam is describing a system and he's telling us where we can be most influential in this whole system of creation and he is inviting us to join him in this process of working with all of humanity with all of creation and I'm wondering if you can tell us a little bit more about it because I feel that there's a very strong source of inspiration for us to realize what we actually have between our hands and actually invited to work on.

R. I don't know exactly what you want from that? From that I do not know exactly what you want from that. The mind's control over the body that we are in it is a very complicated matter. He also doesn't write all the things here that he wanted to write. Let us hear what others have to ask.

13. S. (45:54) It seems to me that from the text that if I come to a correct feeling, if I implement what the sages have already found out for me and work with it, I think I can come to the correct feeling. Otherwise on my own I can die before I can find the medicine.

R. He’s saying something very correct, very correct. That if we go according to what the Kabbalists write to us we need to do exactly what they tell us to do and pray that we reach the same outcomes that they attained in order for us to have the understanding of what they wrote. Yes.

14. S. (47:20) I wanted to follow the French question before. How can we become partners of Baal HaSulam in the work of correction that he's trying to bring to humanity because it is felt that he's inviting us to be his partners and showing us that there's an opportunity here. How can we be his partners?

R. Correct but that comes from us reading these texts, wishing to incorporate in them and wishing to convert these texts into actions that pass through us and between us and that  is considered us being his students. That we go after him.

S. How can we be serious like him?

R. That is already the help from above, Godly help. Pray to the Creator.

S. Can we obligate the Creator?

15. S. (48:52) To continue the topic that you opened up before the advancement of technology, advancement in artificial intelligence, the internet and how you compared the advancement with the emotional network. It is very helpful how you explain the differences. What is that next level? In the recent interview with Oren, you explained how everything will be fake, how it will be virtual reality, how fake it is and then we will not trust anything anymore and then we will come to the truth.

R. Here and there I touch on these things but truly it is forbidden for me to talk about that too much because you need to reach that through your efforts otherwise you will not have the Kelim to reach these things correctly. Therefore, I have no choice, here and there I hint about it and touch upon it a little bit and all the rest is upon you. All the rest is upon you. It is forbidden for me to reveal more than that.

16. S. (50:32) Baal HaSulam is trying to tell us, do not work with your intellect, we are always above it. The question is how we develop this additional sense so we won’t have to rely on the intellect, but we can rely on the sense called above reason?

R. As much as you go in faith above reason you will have that intellect, that reason, that mind developed in you.

S. And what actions will it motivate me to do?

R. Actions of above reason.

S. Results of which has to be what?

R. That you start working with the force of above faith.

17. S. (51:30)  What connects people who share the same mindset, the same action as me. How can I connect to people who don't think like me?

R. You cannot connect to people that do not think like you, quite simply.

18. S. (52:05) In our world we see that people are smart, wiser people manipulate people who are less smart and less intelligent. How to use this wisdom in another way so that people will develop in their feelings and connect the mind to the heart?

R. We will explain the system of nature to them. The system that Baal HaSulam explains.

S. But the silly people can follow provocation easily but it's harder to develop.

R. That is clear, that is natural. Therefore we need to always continue.

19. S. (53:13) What to do if we feel the environment that we chose rejects or ignores us?

R. Are you talking about the group in relation to a single woman?

S. Yes.

R. We need to check that and clarify why it is like that? What does it depend on? I cannot even answer that.

20. S. (53:52) About the development of humanity in the path of suffering and the path of Torah. It cannot be the work of connections that we bring surrounding light to this world. It is felt as suffering in those that are not ready to receive the path of Torah?

R. Yes.

21. S. (54:30) When we sculpt something from two opposing forces what is the correct result that we have to get to?

R. That we will feel that it gives the Creator contentment.

22. S. (54:48) Why the detaining force and the creating force are opposing; they both work to create the embryo?

R. Because the whole of nature is composed of two opposite forces, so we need to join them in a correct manner in order to receive a final form.

23. S. (55:17) How is the degree of Lishma and the embryo connected?

R. An embryo is an outcome of the progress in Lishma.

24. S. (55:34) How, in practice, can each one in the ten work with the detaining force and the illustrating force and how can the ten do it together?

R. It is impossible to say. Each one as much as he can according to his Reshimot.

25. S. (55:55) Is the detaining force and the egoistic force one and the same?

R. No. The detaining force cannot be an egoistic force. There are several characteristics of it.

26. S. (56:20) Can we say that the illustrating force is additional Aviut, and the detaining force is the Masach?

R. One more time?

S. The illustrating force is additional Aviut, and the detaining force is the Masach?

R. There is something in that, let's say it's like that.

27. S. (56:51) After we learned in the lesson on Ibur, what task should we take to this day?

R. To annul towards the ten; to be there as an embryo in the womb.

28. S. (57:18) You said a moment ago that we cannot connect with people whose opinions are different from ours. How do we reconcile it with the fact that we do not cancel anything: Do we want to connect everything?

R. If it is not on the contrary we can connect. We don't even come close to the

R. You cannot battle anyone. Just leave them and let time play its role.

29. S. (57:55) About the article ‘The Freedom’ and all the questions that the friends asked. There is an inner war between the mind and the feeling. Owing to technology the mind receives so much from these technical developments, but it eventually gives instruments to the intellect to control the majority of the population who does not enjoy access to these sources of influence. How can we quote, unquote, strengthen the feeling in people in order to motivate them in order to go out and develop in the right direction the connection of the two for the benefit of everyone?

R. Come closer. There is nothing else and according to closeness we will see what we are left with and what we discard of. How do we scrutinize these kinds of connections between us?

S. We have to disseminate it to the nations of the world. How can we reinforce the emotional side in the existing struggle between these two organs or these two things?

R. It is complex, the nations of the world are still not in the state where they have to decide on the future. That time has still not come.

30. S. (01:00:01) How to bring to the world the system of the feeling of others? Right now there is no such environment. There's nothing to choose, there's only nature.

R. Yes. You're right. There's none of that.

S. How can we, because we are the conduit I think, how can we bring it to the world so there will be choice?

R. Through dissemination. The more you come closer to your friends and you have a feeling of connection so we need to promote that feeling of connection to as many people as possible, as widely as possible and then you will see how many of them will come and this is what we've been doing for several years now.

S. We do it but it's my perception of reality, but it seems like our power is not strong enough to allow for that choice.

R. That is correct. Try to disseminate more with more strength, with more force.

31. S. (01:01:43) Can you explain why the mind has no control over the body? It is only the feelings that control everything?

R. Yes but emotion is stronger than intellect. Emotion is stronger than intellect and we have nothing that we can do about that. If emotion comes and starts controlling the person then his mind stops working because this is how we are made. Everything began from a desire. The desire to receive and the desire to bestow. Desire is emotion and not intellect. In order that it will be felt in the feeling from the mind we need to come with that feeling, we need to process that feeling through a few systems. However, with emotion, taking emotion to a scrutiny that takes place instantaneously; is very simple. It's simple, go to a person and tell him: picture to yourself that I stab you with a pin until he will respond to you and depict that and depict to himself that he really gets this prodding from a pin. However, if you actually prod him with that so he will immediately feel that, his senses immediately shift into action. We need to work with emotion.
