Purifying the Heart - Selected Excerpts from the sources. #5
Reading Excerpt # 5. (00:27) “The only advice is to pray for the Creator..” Twice.
1.S. (02:35) He starts by saying the only advice is to pray to the Creator but we also learned beforehand there is no other advice but love of friends or there is no other advice but choosing the environment. Why does he jump to the Creator?
R. Speaking about a state that a person is in, a certain state, where he says that in that state a person is in, there is no other advice for a person but to pray to the Creator.
S. But it is like he's skipping ahead.
R. So, he doesn't take previous or other discernments but he starts from that.
2. S. (03:30) It says pray to the Creator to give him a different heart. What kind of heart?
R. With different thoughts, with different discernments, with a different demand, whatever a person feels from his heart. The heart is the center of the person and the person receives from the heart all kinds of demands, calculations.
3. S. (04:11) The debt he keeps mentioning here, the fault, is it to pray to the Creator or to give contentment to the Creator? What kind of fault or debt do we have to keep?
R. We will see, I don't know exactly. It doesn't have to be that we rely on one excerpt and then we will know the whole picture.
S. Because the debt is the main thing here?
R. The only advice is to pray to the Creator for what? To give him a different heart. I know what will happen then, meaning to understand that there is nothing better but to give contentment to the Creator. At that time he will be able to see his faults, the faults are in himself. What can he do then? Specifically by understanding that if he sees the fault he will gain merit for himself, if he sees the fault, even though he is in the fault. But by that he sees that and identifies that fault, then he is already in a better place than where he was previously because he will be able to correct or otherwise he will remain with all faults. It follows that the debt, the fault, is his privilege. At that time it will be possible to examine the fault, unlike one who does not work in correction and who will never see the faults.
4. S. (06:20) It turns out that it is not good for happiness, to feel fulfilled, you have to constantly be searching for that debt?
R. But you can be in this search for the fault and together with that be joyful that you are in the correct work.
S. I got it but it seems complex. It is like this split.
R. Well, that is higher work.
5. S. (07:10) If I pray to the Creator to change my heart, is that the prayer of many, to change my heart?
R. Right.
S. Is that still correct to do?
R. Yes, here there are a lot of questions. What do you want from that? What are the conditions but that is a prayer. It could be good and in the right place.
Reading Excerpt #6 (08:00). “Before one achieves the state of bestowal..” Twice.
6. R. (10:00) There are rumors and all kinds of matters that in the world there are many people and thoughts that discuss the Creator in a way that is unpleasant, not good. Where that His Providence is no good, it is no good for the created beings. In short, they twist Providence in all different directions and then a person is hurt by that and he then does everything only in order to correct this attitude from the created beings to the Creator. That is what we need to try to do.
7. S. (10:55) Why does he say to purify the actions? Why not to purify the heart, purify the desire?
R. Because heart and desire are more internal but we need to do that in a more external and revealed manner so we should purify the actions.
S. But even if the actions are in order to receive for myself and why not purify the intention, what comes before the action?
R. That’s what is written. That is what is written. We need to purify the thoughts, the foundations for that attitude by which the Creator is good and benevolent in His foundation.
S. If I'm asking the Creator to purify my actions, I assume that my actions are not good and a certain disrespect to even doing them.
R. Why?
S. You know that your actions are not good, so how can I do them if I know that they are not pure? How will I do them?
R. Are you certain that you act that way?
S. No.
R. Do you understand that even when you depict to yourself that your attitude towards what you need to do, you’re not good, that in any case you execute them.
S. Yes but are you not supposed to do them?
R. All kinds of thoughts come to you, desires, opinions, actions which are egoistic, where you do them before everyone and you are not even ashamed. There are even those that you are proud of and then when you ask to correct them you have this question: is it worthwhile to correct them or not, where do they come from, what can you do with them etc.?
8. S. (13:49) I want to ask about the concealment, we say that concealment is part of the process because otherwise the created being would be nullified like a candle before a torch. What we see, at least from what I understand from the bible stories, that even though the Creator was revealed more than once, clearly, it didn't make people, the created beings, to be annulled like a candle before a torch. So what is the problem? What is the problem to do it again? Our ego is strong enough so you will not be annulled like a candle before a torch?
R. We prepare the Kelim, the vessels and from within these vessels we want to receive the revelation of the Creator that will help us not go against His desire.
S. But in the exodus from Egypt?
R. I really don’t know what’s going on there.
S. It is what is described and you said this is what describes this spiritual process. Why should this spiritual process they went through, the exodus from Egypt, be different from the spiritual process we are going through now?
R. I don't know. I don't know, it also doesn't interest me. We cannot compare our state with that state. No. To the extent to which we are different, good, bad. It is impossible to discuss that.
9. S. (15:37) What recognition, awareness should a person come to so that he will gradually begin to demand the purification of his heart?
R. From the beginning, when I start feeling that I can demand to purify my heart, so I turn to Him and demand it. So there is the prayer of the many in that, the prayer of the individual, there are actions, there are many things. The main thing out of all of these things is that we need to try to carry them out in a circle, in a group.
10. S. (16:40) What is a pure heart?
R. A pure heart is an inner desire of a person which did not go through the breaking, seemingly. That is how it is.
S. What is it?
R. That in the person when he prays and hopes that he will have it, that there is his will to receive that did not go through the breaking, that it is completely pure, it is a part of the general will to receive of the person.
11. S. (17:30) How to help shut the mouths of the agitators? How can you reconcile that with the fact that we do not cancel anything?
R. We need to rise above all the complaints and in such a way connect more and more to ourselves all of these means that can come to us more and more.
S. Meaning we use it as a help against, we use them to raise ourselves in the right direction?
R. Yes.
12. S. (18:25) So the prayer itself, I feel, is already the correction?
R. Yes.
S. I can say that?
R. Yes, you can.
Reading Excerpt #7. (18:55) “It is written, “Purify our hearts..” Twice.
13. S. (20:55) So why should we ask to purify our hearts?
R. To receive a pure heart.
S. But he says at the end of the previous item that a person has to ask to pray so that the Creator will purify his actions not because he wants to be rewarded with open Providence but to shut the mouths of agitators. So what are we asking for again?
R. Because open Providence, if a person attains it, it elevates a person above all the disturbances.
S. So why does he say that it's not because he wants to be rewarded with open Providence?
R. He wants to be above that in faith above reason.
S. But it isn't the purpose to reach adhesion?
R. When not to come to it or reach it?
S. The purpose of creation is to reach adhesion, the Creator to be revealed. So why shouldn't we ask to reach open Providence?
R. We do not want open Providence to bring us to corrections but our corrections will reveal the Creator and the whole world in a matter of open Providence; it is as if we build the open Providence.
S. But we ask the Creator to purify our hearts?
R. Okay.
S. So I do not understand. Why are we asking for this, what is the correct request to purify the heart?
R. The correct request is so that the Creator will purify our hearts, purify our hearts and from His action, our heart will become purified and we will feel the whole world as being in open Providence.
