Passover - Selected Excerpts from the Sources
1. Rav’s Introduction: Pesach is the holiday, it's a very important state and the foundation for the spiritual development of each and every person. It's from the word Pesach (skipped over), meaning a person comes out of one place and enters the second place, and he skipped, he makes a transition from the will to receive in order to receive to the will to receive in the desire to bestow. We remain in the order to receive but the direction changes from in order to bestow to others and bestow to the Creator. Therefore, Pesach is so important for us for the spiritual person, this is why those who are drawn to knowing about Pesach, it's felt in them that there is a strong spiritual foundation in a person, and this is what he wants to scrutinize. Kabbalah speaks about two forces that we have in nature, the force of reception and the force of bestowal, and the transition from the force of reception to the force of bestowal, even though it's all inside the source of reception that's where we remain created beings. We want to resemble the Creator and stop being a created being, but that's not something that pertains to us but to adhere to Him, to come close to Him this is what we need to do. We exist in the will to receive but the will to receive has to take and clothe on itself bestowal so even though I'm in the will to receive specifically through the will to receive that I have in me, I would like to develop the essence of my action, the content of my actions that it would be an action of bestowal.
Therefore, even though I remain in the will to receive I begin to be the bestower, and here we need to learn how even though we remain in the will to receive we put on ourselves a form of bestowal, this is considered to make a restriction over the will to receive and put a screen and work on it so even though it's a will to receive inside we have bestowal on top of it. So even though it is in order to bestow accordingly to bestow in order to bestow and the quality of Bina we have attained and later the quality of the Keter that we receive in order to bestow. Even that is possible and by that we truly resemble the Creator we use our desire even though it is in order to receive reception but at the essence of its action is bestowal. Of course, all of these actions have to do with the created being and everyone they shall know me from the least of them to the greatest of them and my house shall be called a house of prayer to all nations. This is how the upper force gradually appears before everyone, but first of all it is those in whom the Creator awakens the desire for him, for them to come closer to him they are called Yashar Kel, Israel. One person may be called Israel, or a group could be called Israel, Yashar Kel and also the whole world can be called that.
This is why Israel is not a group or a nation or a 10 rather it is in an inclination towards the Creator the inclination that's called Israel because we're only talking about the desire. The desire to resemble the Creator is manifested in us in a request to the Creator that he will arrange it, that he will correct this desire in us. We will have an egoistic will to receive in order to receive so that forced of all he will perform a restriction and he will give us a screen and so that we will not use the will to receive in order to receive and gradually shifted to a will to receive in order to bestow, in order to bestow and later on to receive in order to bestow. That in the foundation of a spiritual act is all done because of the fact we had made the transition from in order to receive to bestow which is called the Exodus from Egypt. This whole action just like all the changes coming closer to the Creator they are all done through the reforming light by an illumination, a light from above from the Creator’s desire to bestow, he bestows on us, influences us more and more and does he raise us, elevates in us more and more each time, the desire to bestow. Where we don't really feel good in the reality of this world even though we have everything, we want more and more means that we want well, we don't even know what it is quite, but we are getting closer to wanting to bestow. I want something but what exactly do I want, I don't know this is how the Creator is bringing us closer from afar, this is how he is showing us how the desire to bestow, he grows it, he elevates it from the opposite desire.
As it is called that he makes a form within a form and this is how it happens gradually, how does it really happen we don't know later on, we will learn and later on we by ourselves later on will draw the reforming light. Even in animals we see that such things exist not only between the mother and the offspring but also even between animals.
Sometimes we can see that they show it to us but in spirituality this is already a development which is upon the great ego and therefore The Exodus from Egypt, the exit from the ego to the desire to bestow which is the beginning of a person's spiritual development he practices, is a process that is not simple and prolonged. Until a person goes through it truly with all the different details that he requires, according to the root of his soul he cannot be rewarded with the Exodus from Egypt. This is why all of humanity is going through stages of development and this is why everyone exists in this world, however there are those who already feel that they have to get to know the root of their life, their spiritual root in all kinds of different forms they feel it. This is us and what we have before us right now is to actualize this Exodus, this exits to spirituality. Let's hope we're going to study now and maybe we'll do it the most important now is that we're beginning as though there in nature, there's a force of reception in this force reception, really only wants to receive.
This is why it becomes clogged inside of itself and the force of bestowal which is influenced by the creator, this is called the evil inclination and the Creator bestows on it and the influence of the Creator on the will to receive is called Torah, Ohr or light, instruction learning and then the will to receive starts to change it doesn't even know by what, why but it starts changing. As we see with children, they develop they don't know how, they do develop some drive, comes to them from within and they do something and we watch them and we find out that, look what he's doing, look what he's doing now. That is that each time has new desires, new abilities and this is how we also develop in spirituality and now we have to go over this whole form of development in us, coming out of Egypt that we will go through the whole process of development. So much so that we hate it, this is called the recognition of evil, and we are capable to cry out to the Creator as it says the children of Israel sighed from the work and their outcry rose to the Lord.
Then the Creator imparts us a special light, it is called the force that is capable of pulling us out of the in order to receive to in order to bestow as much as we can act in order to be a nation, to be a group so we can come out of the in order to receive and we start to feel that we are raising above it to the force of bestowal. Then we begin to feel the spiritual world which is outside of Egypt in all kinds of different forms, the most important is that after the crossing of the Red Sea. We have a long way, at least a month, if not more, until we will scrutinize this entire process of the Exile in Egypt. It is a period that we have to study really well because we are in it because we are not even aware that we are just that we exist in our ego. The first state our first goal is called the recognition of evil to see our state, that is the desire in which we are in that it is evil. Why is it evil? Is it because it is as bad for us or because it is bad for the Creator because we are far from him? This is why we have to determine that it is bad, why I don't determine if this way etc. This is why we have to acquire these new spiritual values and then we will realize then feel how much we are acting according to corporeal values and we have to replace them by spiritual values and then we ask of the Creator to replace the elements for us our foundation and that way we will come closer to the Exodus.
2. S. (15:30) Is the recognition of evil by itself that prayer that the Creator answers and if so how to bring the whole group?
R. This is all we have to think about all the time your question is the general question in which we need to be, out of that we need we will get the answer, I can't give you the answer for that we have to attain, to achieve it.
3. S. (16:06) We are learning about the topic of Pesach. You say we're going to learn it for a month. What is the condition internally that we have to come to an earlier exit?
R. They enter Egypt even though they are brothers meaning people who have some corporeal closeness whether all human beings just like you, let's say, you started today for some reason to call yourselves Ukraine. When we come out of Egypt it is considered that we are gathering into one group called a nation it's not an ordinary nation we see many nations that are the 70 nations of the world rather it is a group that is entirely solidified in determining the desire that they exist in is a bad desire egoistic desire and they have to get out of it and this is the only thing that is important for them to let go of their ego and to be able to come out of it and rise above it.
4. S. (17:54) What does it mean that the light came or arrived?
R. Well, when the light comes it gives us the feeling the understanding, the new discernments with respect to spirituality, with respect to in order bestowal. This is considered the reforming light is bestowing and influencing us,
5. S. (18:10) You said that we should go this month to the entire process?
R. No. Of course, it's not that we go through everything in a month. I'm saying we have to study these things, and also, we learn many to sermons before that over the last few. I don't think that we are finishing them, that we are actually applying them inside of our will to receive but rather we went over it, we got to know a little bit about what spirituality is compared to corporeality, how we need to get organized, etc. But we have not actualized it. In practice, we just learned these things. And it's the same, here, we will have to learn the entire process, The Exodus from Egypt, not entering into the will to bestow but we have to learn how we exit the will to receive and how we get to the will to bestow. It’s up up to the reception of the Torah, up to the reception of the reforming light, so we can use it in practice. Later on, we'll learn to use it in practice we will learn that we get from above. It doesn't mean that we are in it already you will learn many things in school but what do you get out it? You learned it, you heard about it a little bit. We need to try to bring them closer to our feeling. When I speak of some state, exile, so I feel this state - what it is about, exile, right? Or the plagues, what exactly are these plagues of Egypt? Pharaoh. I feel what it is about, etc. There is the matter of the study and there is the matter of the realization. We should try as much as possible to put them join them together.
6. S. (23:03) You also said in the beginning of our preparation that this process we are going through, we’ll go through it according to the root of our soul. What does that mean?

7. R. This means that we have to go through the entire process, from the degree of zero. And then the Creator is about to make us familiar with the will to receive that He created so that we will get to know that the will to receive is evil and only by turning to Him can we ask that He replace it with in order to bestow. This way, each time a greater will to receive is revealed in us. We turn to the Creator, we ask for a correction and the Creator replaces for us the will to receive so that it will be in order to bestow and once again, he reveals to us an even greater will to receive, in order to receive. Then we already despair of this world, from in order to receive, of discovering in it the purpose of life, the essence of life, something for which it is worthwhile to live. And the world, it is still in searches. It is still searching. It doesn't quite understand why and what for it exists. It just runs around and chasing it will receive. It only has one desire, we already have two, the will to receive, corporeality and also spirituality, and we are between the Heaven and the earth, as we call it, but the world is not there yet. Therefore, the exile in Egypt starts from the animate degree, the degree of the beast, from the degree where we just don't want to connect. Just like it happened with Joseph - the brothers of Joseph, the sons of Jacob - they're already the result of Jacob. That they don't want to connect. They don't want to bow down before Joseph he wants to collect them. It’s the quality of connection. It’s not a quality of person, it’s the quality of connection and it’s specifically the purpose for which we need to be drawn, and they do not agree to it.
Therefore, because they had a fight, seemingly these qualities, these different qualities that don't want to connect. Therefore, they enter Egypt, that is, they get to know the evil in them more and more until they have become a great nation, a great will to receive, which they received through Pharaoh’s rule over them and instead of the 70 souls, the 70 people that came into Egypt, they become a great nation. Seemingly, it multiplied so much, that is, by taking more and more from the will to receive into them more and more forces so a person who goes through this stage of the exile, he becomes greater egoist, he becomes stronger. Even though he is drawn to spirituality, he also becomes egoistic more egoistic, this is how they exist.
10. S. (41:58) What's the connection between the individual action and the group action in the exodus from Egypt?
R. R. Well, there are stages in it. We get the force of bestowal, so this is already outside of Egypt. What does it mean the inheritance of the land? That the same will to receive that we receive we amplify which is born in us in Egypt. That same will to receive that we discover when all the evil that there is in it. When we truly reach the final evil, we run away, we can no longer remain in it and then we run away even though it's dark and we have no idea what will happen ahead of us. But the most important, is to get rid of that will receive. That recognition that I'm better off dead, this is what takes us out of Egypt and then we reach -- it doesn't even matter to which place -- but first of all to run away from what we had before. To run away from the evil, that I can no longer remain in that lie, in order to receive and then when we come to this awareness and of course it is only inside of the group. This is how it is solidified in the connection between us because, nevertheless, the will to receive is still there and we didn't place a restriction on it. We ran away from it. This way we reach the will to bestow, connection and this initial connection we are ready to receive the reception of the Torah.
12. S. (45:24) Earlier you attached that point that is between Heaven and Earth can you clarify this point?
R. No. These are states where we're still neither here nor there and we don't know who is the creator that I should listen to him, as Pharaoh says, and Moses says one thing and Pharaoh speaks another way in us and we're between these two forces. But we have to scrutinize. We’ll get there.

What does this specifically need for the development in our 10. What sort of work do we specifically have to do now in our work heading for this Pesach?
R. Passover, Pesach. From the word, Pesach, ‘skipped over.’ Where we go from the state of in order to receive to the state of in order to bestow. This is called “Passover,” this boundary we’re crossing from the will to receive to the will to bestow. We don't we go to the will to bestow; we go from the intention to receive to the intention to bestow. This boundary is called Pesach, Passover. Before that we have to go over all of our desires called ‘the four degrees’ -- Shoresh, Alef, Bet, Gimlet, Dalet -- these four degrees. When we come to recognize our will to receive in full as much as each and every one of you has to recognize it and you recognize that this will to receive is evil and he is willing, at whatever cost, to run away from it, and the dark, he's willing to get away from this will receive.
This means he is ready for the exodus from Egypt. We are ready to connect in order to escape the will to receive. This is called a true action of leaving the will to receive. But I'm going from one desire to another. I can't simply exit my will to receive, I have to go from one desire to another. This is called Pesach. Of course, all of those actions are done on us by the upper light, the reforming light, on the condition that we try to do it, what's required of us, in our study, in our labor. All those actions of course are presided over by the Creator and He is doing them on us.
S. What does it mean specifically for our work in the 10? What do we have to do to come to that state which you describe?
R. I talked about it. The exodus from Egypt means that you connect together, or just are willing to connect together and you cried to the Creator that you're willing to be as one man with one heart. Since then, you are going through that tip of the needle. That's how you go from the lower world to the upper world. This is called the exodus from Egypt.
15. S. (50:54) The exodus from Egypt is something that happens once to us, we never go back to them?
R. There is no return to Egypt each and everyone in the correction of his soul is going through the stages and there is no return. they raised you and sanctity and never bring you down that's the rule.

This is like the ark. The ark carries those who carry it. 18. S. (55:48) How can we build a desire that resembles the Creator between us?
R. That's what Rabash writes about in his articles about the group all the time we have to develop the forces of bestowal between us not that we need to speak of sometimes it takes away the flavor, we lose the power, it becomes tasteless. Rather each one has to ensure that each day has a new stronger inclination towards the friends in the group compared to the previous day it's all about that. In the beginning you will accept it gladly because this will receive will serve you. and you'll see how much you're able to enjoy it, enjoy this world, everything it has until you begin to realize how through all those good, beautiful things you see in the world, how this world is actually not made for you to enjoy it this way. More and more he will reveal to you how you're constantly losing and there's nothing before you except evil. and all the good actions that you used to attain in this world and joy in this world, all those actions will become bad, be a source of a loss for you. That's why then comes the time of the last generation, we have industry, culture, Education, power, whatever you can create heaven on Earth but instead we see that we can only build hell. This is the process that we discover while we are in Egypt. That's how we should reveal our presence and that's at what is revealed to us now.

If we're going to keep going there is no end to it, nothing about nothing there are no holy cows, nothing precious in this life, both life and death, life and parents, we are in the will to receive that looks down at everything. R. That will be revealed on the path, I understand your desire to grasp things, but it is good for you to be patient and to know the state that we are in.
53. S. (02:25:23) Why did Joseph enter Egypt and not the brothers?
R. because that is a point that yearns for connection and the revelation of the Creator and in the brothers not to that extent in order to connect, they don't yet understand the type of coming closer to the Creator through the connection. You also are not yet aware that we need to advance to the Creator only through connection. Maybe there is something somewhat that we need but needing is a side thing, meaning that needing only goes to connection and in the connection together we reveal the Creator and only through the connection and in the connection do we had here ourselves to him, this we don't yet have. There is nothing to do but to simply continue increasingly more to ask the Creator for the force of connection, only from this connection do we begin to approach the giving of Torah and the receiving of the reforming light and only there all of the corrections exist. These things need to go by as fast because we are truly already in this preparation.
54. S. (02:27:28) Before we reach Passover we go through happiness and preparation because we have gone through a very internal vessel, a congress in our vessel. How must we prepare ourselves to go into this event and for what purpose?
R. We only need connection all of the actions states and connections we need to go through us only towards the connection between us, so much so that the form of connection between us will begin to resemble the Creator. We will begin to stabilize and establish him in the ten desires which are connected together with one intention.
