Reader: Hello, we are reading “The Study of the Ten Sefirot,” Part 1. We are in Inner Observation of Part 1, Chapter 9. Item 34.

Reading: (00:43) Baal HaSulam. "Study of the Ten Sefirot" (TES). Vol. 1. Part 1. Inner Observation. Chapter 9, #34

34) Concerning the spiritual definition of time, understand that for us, the whole concept of time is only a sensation of movements. Our imagination pictures and devises a certain number of consecutive movements that it senses one by one and interprets them as a certain amount of “time.” Thus, if one had been in a state of complete rest with one’s environment, he would not even be aware of the concept of time. So it is in spirituality: A certain amount of new forms is regarded as “spiritual movements” which are entwined in one another by way of cause and consequence, and they are called “time” in spirituality. Also, “before” and “after” always mean “cause and consequence.”

M. Laitman: Yes, this is what Bala Shulam writes to us in his definition.

Question (Hungarian-Polish): (01:25) The new form is the difference of form from the Creator. This is time, as I see it. Is a new form created, or do we discover the pre-existing system?

M. Laitman: No, these are new forms. But they come out of the previous forms. That's how they come, and they clothe in our will to receive. And one is the consequence of another, before and after, meaning cause and consequence. And we are also this way in our lives. We measure life according to what was before, what is coming later. Cause and consequence always.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (03:51) In our world, if I go to sleep at night, I get up, and some time has passed. Things happened without me. In spirituality, he says it's an order of cause and consequence. Is there a force that makes things happen, or if a person doesn't act, nothing will happen?

M. Laitman: Certainly, the Creator does everything. He arranges the times for us, the actions. And that's how we accept our lives, before and after, now and tomorrow.

Student: What happens if a person doesn't do what he should do as opposed to if he does do what he should do? In terms of time, how will it change his time?

M. Laitman: With respect to time, it's possible that internally what he feels it appears to him that time passes slower or faster. But it doesn't change anything. Because ultimately, these are things that

And accordingly, we have the concept of time.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (08:11) So, time in spirituality, I feel as past, present, future? How does it, how is it felt in spirituality? Does it disappear?

M. Laitman: No, but the fact that you are in contact with the environment means that you're being acted by the environment, and you can determine how much you depend on them or not, how much you change.

Student: What does it mean to be in the environment, with the environment in a state of complete rest?

M. Laitman: It means that you are advancing in your perception of reality, like the environment.

Student: Not clear.

M. Laitman: We are in the environment. That's everything that surrounds us. Corporeality, spirituality, it doesn't matter what. That is why it's important to us, who do we depend on? So, to the extent that we connect between us, we reach a certain mutuality. Accordingly, time changes.

Student: In what way of equivalence should I be with the environment in order to be above time?

M. Laitman: You need to be in an environment truly adhered to what surrounds you.

Student: What does it mean to be adhered to what surrounds me?

M. Laitman: That you feel a change in times according to how the environment influences you directly.

Student: And as long as I feel that I'm in times of past, present, future, like a clock, it means I'm still within the ego?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Reader: Okay, the broadcast is back, and we have more questions from friends.

Question (MAK 11): (11:22) We understand how we use time in the world, the corporeal world. How do we use time in the spiritual world? What does it give us the concept of time, what should we do with it?

M. Laitman: So, we would be able to see ourselves as moving through time, and in this way, to change ourselves according to time. Time, it's all imaginary, it's artificial, it's invented. There's nothing about time that exists in nature; it was given only to man so he would come to know the opportunity that he has to change his life, to change time.

Question (Turkiye 1): (12:38) In item 34, it talks about spiritual time. If time is measured as a number of different changes of form, how many times we change form, so is the main thing we need to do, the friends, connect among us in order to accelerate the number of changes, so that changes will form as much as possible?

M. Laitman: Correct, that's correct.

Question (Tel Aviv 3): (13:29) Baal HaSulam talks about the creation of times, knowing that before that we were in complete rest, and in order for a person to be able to develop and grow, this concept of time was created for him through a sequence of operations. Can we see this as the soul being in complete rest, and now we are experiencing a developmental process, and afterwards, the soul returns once more to complete rest? Can we see it as such?

M. Laitman: No. We need to understand that the time that we feel, we experience, is a change of our inclinations, let's say. They constantly change according to the spiritual states our soul is going through.

Student: Now I understand it much better, because the article is not simple, but thank you for the clarification.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (15:15) He writes, “A certain amount of new forms is regarded as “spiritual movements” which are entwined in one another by way of cause and consequence.” That's his definition. What happens to the concept of time in the  adhesion with the created being with the Creator?

M. Laitman: I can't hear you well.

Student: What happens to the concept of time when the created being is in adhesion with the Creator?

M. Laitman: When the created being is in adhesion with the Creator, it's already a great correction. And he feels the order of changes in him, together with what the Creator had arranged for him.

Student: Can you explain what it means, a certain amount of new changes of form, which he calls spiritual movement? What does it mean that they are entwined in one another by way of cause and consequence?

M. Laitman: That's how we feel, or perhaps we don't feel, but in this way, all kinds of forces pass over us, surround us, and change us. That is why it's not written here how we can change the times in us, but our goal is to change the sensation of time so we would be equal to the Creator. Whatever the Creator creates, generates, and the way our world changes, it will be felt in us accordingly. And in this way, we’ll be able to reach unity with the Creator, to live in the same time.

Question (Ashkelon 2): (18:10) To continue the question, he says spiritual time means a certain number of new changes of form that are entwined in one another by way of cause and consequence, before and after. So, before and after, does that depend on the time that was before?

M. Laitman: Of course. Specifically cause and consequence, or before and after, are the direct form by which we feel the time passing over us.

Student: Before and after, he talks about here, are not corporeal but spiritual.

M. Laitman: What do you mean corporeal or spiritual? Man feels it.

Student: Yes. What creates in a person's time is changes of form, of before and after? Can you give an example?

M. Laitman: Anything. A while ago, you belonged to family, to work, to something else. Now you belong to the group. You work with them, you study with them. This is all dependent on time that comes to us and clothes in us. And according to the clothing of time in us, we feel where we are, if we are changing at all, yes or no, and so on and so forth.

Question (W Turkiye 7): (20:07) What changes within us are regarded as spiritual movements? Is it our thoughts, or the direction of our desires? What is regarded as spiritual change, spiritual movement?

M. Laitman: Spiritual change between us, we can't say much about it. We don't have examples for it. But we will learn about it shortly. This is the next excerpt.

Question (Haver): (21:02) I would like to ask you something that I may have missed because I don't feel well. It's written, at a certain time, in a way that if a person with his environment was in a state of complete rest, he would not know what is the concept of time, and so it is in spirituality. The question is, what does it mean, his environment in a state of complete rest? What environment? What is this about?

M. Laitman: When you feel that you're advancing with the general time.

Student: I didn’t understand, Rav. Can you explain so that I would understand it?

M. Laitman: When you advance, when you're advancing through life, with everyone, that everyone shares the same time.

Student: So, my labor and everyone's, all the friend's labor is the same time?

M. Laitman: Labor is labor, time is time.

Student: So, I didn't understand.

M. Laitman: You are in connection with your environment. And this environment advances according to the time it feels, changes it feels. And if you are advancing with them, then you share the same time.

Student: In other words, if my Ten is pulling in the spiritual direction, I'm pulled after them.

M. Laitman: Also then.

Question (Almaty): (23:15) Can it be said that we should yearn to accelerate time, these changes of form? Not enjoy this degree but look at the next degree.

M. Laitman: Very true. We must feel what time is demanding of us, and be connected, all of us, with this time.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (24:00) If I understand correctly, time is a result of changes of form that change?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, there are two ways to advance. One is through time, which is changes of form, and the other way is according to cause and consequence?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, what does it mean to advance according to cause and consequence regardless of time?

M. Laitman: It means to advance according to the forces that operate on you and wish to pull you toward their goal. Otherwise, if you don't consider that, then you are, as you call, you're flowing with time.

Student: So, a Kabbalist relates to the next state as something, as the thing that leads him?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Regardless of time, or is there a connection to time?

M. Laitman: If he is in contact with his environment, and his environment advances, according to the work of the upper force on it, then the person advances together with the environment.

Student: So, the thing towards which he moves is the next thing?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Now, I don't know how to ask it without using the term time, but when he looks at the next state, it doesn't matter, it may take a week, a year, five years, it has no meaning?

M. Laitman: There's no difference. Whenever he will acquire a new form according to the force operating on him, and will change accordingly, then we can say that he's gone through time.

Student: Just one more question. It's as if his body is in a corporeal reality. Doesn't he feel these changes at all? He's only immersed in the next spiritual state?

M. Laitman: He feels the changes like all the corporeal bodies.

Student: In other words, in his body, he lives in our world, but he already identifies with the spirit, with the feeling of the next state.

M. Laitman: Yes, that's correct.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (26:49) How do we feel what time requires of us?

M. Laitman: We feel it according to what we study. We learn that we need to advance with the study, with the perception of the study, at a certain pace. And together with that, we are in our lives, our corporeal lives. And we need to keep them, and observe them as well although it is not connected to spiritual life.

Student: Does the learning show us our next degree?

M. Laitman: Yes, the result of the connection between us, that's what he's trying to say, eventually it will become clearer. The result of the connection between us will be the feeling of spiritual time. Meaning, how much in the connection between us can we increase in us the sensation of spiritual time. And accordingly, we'll advance to such an extent that we will rise above corporeal time and will only determine for ourselves spiritual changes.

Student: The next spiritual degree that's revealed is a result of the learning. Is it revealed to everyone?

M. Laitman: No, no, no. To each and every one.

Student: So, how do we come to a common time, a common feeling? How do we aim together to the next degree when it's revealed to each one in a different way, at a different time, in a different state?

M. Laitman: For the time being, it's like that.

Question (Moldova): (29:23) We just heard now that time in spirituality is changes of time, and the quicker the time is changed, the states changed, the more we advance, so there's an acceleration of time, more states per minute. Now, the changing of these states, to what extent does it depend on us, and to what extent does it depend on the Creator?

M. Laitman: It depends only on our environment. The extent to which we are connected to our environment, accordingly we will change with them.

Question (Kyiv 1): (30:07) You said that our spiritual time is related to our environment. We have time for meetings, for a lesson, but what does it mean that we go through spiritual time as a group, as a Ten?

M. Laitman: We are going through spiritual time if we feel the kind of changes that pass over us. And according to these changes, we will feel how much we are rising spiritually.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (31:01) In the earthly time, we have the fear that we would waste it, that we would do something with it. In spiritual time, where do we place the fear so we don't waste it in revealing the states?

M. Laitman: Corporeal time, you check according to your clock and spiritual time, you check according to your attitude toward the spiritual goal. How close you are, or how further you are from it.

Student: And how do I increase the fear there?

M. Laitman: Check it. How do you yearn for it? How can you be in it?

Student: So, the yearning and the changes of states are the key to fear and the advancement?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (W PT 23): (32:14) How can we accelerate time in the work in the Ten?

M. Laitman: Through inner pressure. When we do want to be connected together as much as possible, both between us and together with the spiritual time. That we would go from state to state according to the spiritual time. And this will be our advancement accordingly.

Question (W Moscow 8): (33:12) There are states where it seems that it's impossible to take on myself this new form. So, from the perspective of a person, what actions can we take so the process will go by more softly and more quickly?

M. Laitman: The most important thing is to be connected together between you in the group. By that, we can accelerate time.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (34:00) When a person goes to sleep, he's disconnected from his environment. He doesn't feel time. The time passes. When he wakes up, he begins to connect to the environment and feels the changes that happened while he was seemingly disconnected, as if the environment moved ahead without him. So, he reconnects and feels what happened. In spirituality, Baal HaSulam writes that if a person was in complete rest and his environment was in complete rest, he wouldn't feel time at all. So, if there are no changes of time, is a person even aware? If there are no changes in spiritual time, is a person aware of anything? Does he have any awareness? Because we know that awareness exists between states.

M. Laitman: Spiritual awareness he cannot measure, he cannot feel, because nothing changes. And if something does change, then he feels that he can do something from that new state.

Student: So, if we're talking about a state where he is in complete rest, like the Creator is in complete rest, if he is in complete adhesion with Him, he has no awareness anymore. But we say that he has to feel everything if he is at the end of correction, in a state of complete rest.

M. Laitman: No, we don't know what is a state of complete or absolute rest. We know how we advance, how we can influence our advancement. We are still going through the degrees. So, here we have a question. How can I accelerate my development in the degrees.

Student: Yes, we learned that through strengthening the connection.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: But we learned that at the end of correction, a person comes to a state where he is in complete rest.

M. Laitman: At the end of correction, yes.

Student: How can we understand such a state? If he is in complete rest, he doesn't have any changes of states anymore, no more awareness.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: We'll leave it aside. If I may ask, I have another small question. Spiritual time, what's the connection between that and corporeal time? Is there a connection between the changes of spiritual states, between the feeling of spiritual time and the feeling of corporeal time?

M. Laitman: No, there isn't. The sensation of corporeal time, you can feel it according to the corporeal states in your group, and you can hasten this development mechanically. You connect more, you come more, and you develop more. But spiritual advancement is only according to how much you can be connected to one another.

Student: How is it possible that there are changes in the corporeal time if there are no changes in the spiritual time?

M. Laitman: I would say that those are systems that are unrelated. They are connected in the desire of a person but not on their own. We'll talk about it.

Question (Philippines): (38:29) In this world, we have the concept of time and space. Because this world operates so dense and heavy, that's why its operation is very slow. So, that's why we can measure time and space. In the upper world, there is no concept of time and space. Is it because the operation in the upper world is so fast that the changes in the spiritual states are as if they happened at once?

M. Laitman: No. Spiritual time and corporeal time are separate. A person can rise to spiritual time, and then he can change its influence on the spiritual reality according to his efforts. That's it.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (40:16) I just wanted to be precise about something. The concept of above time. What does it mean, above time? There's no such thing as above time.

M. Laitman: Above time means above what we feel in our world.

Student: So, above corporeal time.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (CzechSlovak ): (40:50) I have two questions from our friends. First, are the new forms, the new shapes, new stages, is the form a vessel, or are we talking about different, smaller spiritual changes?

M. Laitman: Each time changes, we should ascribe them to our spiritual changes, when we receive a bit more light from above, and it changes our vessel. And besides that, there can be no other change.

Student: And the second question: what should I do if the Creator shows me how bad I am? How to go through that state?

M. Laitman: Do you think that way? I didn't understand that. To ask. What we can do in our state is only a request, a prayer.

Student: To be precise, what to do if I feel terrible and opposite to the Creator?

M. Laitman: What you feel, you feel. What you want to direct at the Creator, so try to change yourself, and accordingly, turn to Him.

Question (Latin 1): (43:29) You answered the friend about spiritual time in the Ten and feeling the changes that happen in the Ten. The question is, how to increase our sensitivity towards these changes? What should I look for in the friends? Do I need to see if they're happy, sad? Do they care about life?

M. Laitman: I need to help the friends in such a way that we, together, connect between us, and that connection between us, we can attach it also to the Creator. That all of us together reach a state where we are connected, and that point, together, we attach it to the Creator. That is all. I have nothing else to add.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (44:45) Previously, you told the friend, you answered him regarding the distinction between corporeal and spiritual time. Is there general corporeal time and personal corporeal time?

M. Laitman: It's not that scrutinized in a person, but yes.

Student: So why do I ask? Because when you talked about the corporeal changes that happen in corporeal time, you said that we need to accelerate our work with the friends in the Ten, and by that, we accelerate corporeal time, so to speak. But also, there's the general time the Earth revolves around the Sun, and so on. How do we relate to these two things, the personal opposite the general?

M. Laitman: Individual movements we relate to as if we are in connection with the spiritual world. And corporeal movements we connect also according to how much we are connected in our corporeal connection between us. For the time being, it's not so well clarified in us.

Question (Baltia 1): (46:32) How does a convention assist us in accelerating corporeal time? Our participation in one prayer, yes? How important is each one's participation?

M. Laitman: It's important for us to be in connection with our friends, to try to understand each other, to do common actions with the help of mutual help, and that way we'll gradually come to a state where, in it, all the present and our future will be connected to our motion forward. Meaning that we will look at our state in the group, in general, as existing in some kind of instrument that can accelerate and bring us from one stage to the next.

Question (W Turkiye): (48:03) What is the meaning of history? Everything that happened before me, I wasn't alive, but I was told about it. How does it affect me today?

M. Laitman: That doesn't matter to us right now. Whatever was, was. I need precisely to be adhered to what is now happening.

Question (PT 19): (48:47) There's the issue of the records, the Reshimot for a person that emerged during our life. Does anything happen if I don't act upon them in time or not in time? How do they relate to time?

M. Laitman: It is important what records now awaken in you.

Student: What does it mean?

M. Laitman: Now, in the present, from the past, what now surfaces in you that you are now activated from.

Student: The question is, if these Reshimot materialize in time, if they don't materialize in time, can it bring about trouble or, to the contrary, good things?

M. Laitman: Yes, certainly.

Student: So, it's all related to the records? That's new to me.

M. Laitman: No, the main thing in our life is in the records.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (49:50) Why does the Creator give permission to the wise or to the prophets to reveal the future to us?

M. Laitman: Through what can He do that? The sages are those who connect us to the Creator.

Student: Why do we need to know about the future? How does it help us?

M. Laitman: We need to know the future only in order to connect to the future, to be drawn there, to do all the actions so that we feel how we ascend from one degree to the next.

Student: You just told the friend that we need to work with the records that awaken right now. Is there work to be done with the future, or no?

M. Laitman: Whoever feels it, so yes, that is your next state.

Student: Do we need to imagine the future according to how the Kabbalists describe it?

M. Laitman: Yes, certainly, certainly.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (51:15) Can it be said that there’s a specific time for the Ten, the Ten's time?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, when we incorporate together in our states, everything we go through, by that we enter a new time?

M. Laitman: Yes. However, I still don't think that it's possible to feel.

Question (W MAK 43): (52:01) Where’s the meeting between the previous state and the new state? Is there coupling through a screen, or do they not meet?

M. Laitman: We're not learning that now. Let's say that there is no clash. You could say that there is internal, and surrounding, as we learn. Certainly, there is a clash as we study, but we're not studying that here now. But those are additional layers, additional parts of new vessels.

Student: This resistance to the new form, can it interrupt the next stage?

M. Laitman: It seems to me that you'll get confused with that, but it doesn't matter. For us now, where it's happening, it doesn't matter.

Question (Turkiye 7): (53:24) What is the correction that a person should do in relation to negative emotions, so that a person can turn the suffering that comes to him due to time, or according to time, into closeness with the friends? What correction should he make?

M. Laitman: He needs to elevate himself above what he feels and relate to his friends with love. That is enough for him. If he does that, if he will work on that, then for certain he will succeed in all kinds of other demands in order to feel himself as existing really in connection with the Creator.

Question (Chelyabinsk-Omsk): (54:34) We perform many actions in the Ten, but these actions, do they all help us accelerate our time, or is it that until we reach prayer, there's no motion?

M. Laitman: [no translation]

Student: How beneficial is it to reach a prayer as quickly as possible, to move from our current place?

M. Laitman: Try to feel one another in the heart. That is all.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (55:39) How should we correctly understand the concept of time? Is time something that needs to be managed? It's not clear how to understand, how to grasp it correctly.

M. Laitman: Time, we need to feel it only according to how much we feel ourselves at a certain moment of time more or less connected. We pray for that, we forget. That is the concept of time that we need.

Student: What is our war? I suppose it's an inner war against time, over time, we lack time. Baal HaSulam writes that we act due to lack of time, shortage of time. What does it mean?

M. Laitman: It is that we need to constantly see ourselves as being connected together toward the point of connection between us. And in relation to that, we measure time, how much it works for that.

Student: How can we overcome this suffering that time seems to bring to us?

M. Laitman: It's very simple. Certainly, I want to now feel myself as being in connection to the friends, and that we together are connected to that action in the present time.

Student: So, if I understand correctly, by how we manage our connection, by that we solve everything that time brings to us.

M. Laitman: Right.

Question (W Moscow 6): (57:48) We have the holidays, Sukkot, and so on. If states aren't related, between corporeality and spirituality, so what is the spiritual schedule?

M. Laitman: We need to know generally what is happening in spirituality, because the general quality of the light expands to us and we are dependent on it. But no more than that. What is most important is what takes place between us, what happens there.

Question (W Lithuania 8): (58:33) Now, connection. What kind of connection in the group, that is the real cause for the spiritual clock?

M. Laitman: The extent to which we are in one Ten, we want to be connected in our desires, in our hearts. In that, we act on each other in connection between us, and from the connection between us, we can also raise the spiritual point that connects us together. I think that in that, we have finished item 34, and now we are in Chapter ten, right?

Reader: We will read Chapter ten tomorrow. We'll start our lesson tomorrow with Chapter ten. Thank you all for the lesson. Let’s take the last bit of guidance you gave us,  that we’ll be connected together in our desires, in our hearts, and from that, work on the connection between us. And with that, we'll continue to the next part of the lesson.
