Daily Morning Lesson: June 29, 2025

Part 1: Recorded lesson - Oct 11, 2021. Baal HaSulam, Shamati #19. What Is “The Creator Hates the Bodies,” in the Work?

Reader: Dear friends, in the first part of the lesson we will study from a lesson from Rav Laitman from 2021 based on the article Shamati 19, “What is The Creator hates the bodies in the work?” It's found in Shamati and in the writings of Baal HaSulam.

Question (Woman Internet): (00:39) He says, whereas one who is rewarded with private providence, he sees that the Creator does everything. What is private providence? And is there any other kind of providence?

M. Laitman: There is general providence by which the Creator manages the correction and progress of the whole vessel of Adam HaRishon to the breaking and then to the correction. The breaking already took place, now it's just becoming more and more apparent. And accordingly, what's required of us is to perform corrections of the shattering. And that's how we advance.

Student: What is private providence?

M. Laitman: Private providence is what exists on each and every one and all of us together as general providence. Let's say that some terrorist comes and explodes an atom bomb, a nuclear bomb on the whole earth. Although there is this force on a person, but the Creator watches over it and doesn't let these things happen. We sometimes hear that there were various opportunities to all kinds of lunatics to do such things. And we also hear that it didn't work out. That's exactly an example of the general providence. On the other hand, we see that with general providence, you have things like the pandemic, this virus. So we also see that it is spreading all over the world. That too is general providence. When the Creator wants all the people in the world to speak, think, and worry about the same thing. By this, they're getting closer to each other. It puts them in a common trouble, just like in a family. And in this way, He promotes us. Once in a good way, once in a bad way. Or as it seems to us, like it's a bad way.

Question (Woman Internet): (03:15) It says that a person is between life and death. What is that state?

M. Laitman: We need to see according to the text. Between life and death, meaning either in a feeling of life or in a feeling of death. Or in between life and death, where it's neither way. It's neither toward this nor toward that. When he doesn't feel taste in this or in that, or vice versa. He doesn't know which way it's dragging him. We need to see in the text itself, from the situation itself, exactly what it talks about.

Question (West 4): (03:59) It says, whereas one who asks of his friend for luxuries, which are not so necessary. What does it mean to ask the friend for luxuries?

M. Laitman: Luxuries? Luxuries, means more than what I need for my life. Like a regular person in this world, my body belongs to this world, to corporeality. I have to tend to it so that it has clothing, food, health, that's it. The regular things that the body needs, not more than that. All of a person's tendencies that we want to satisfy beyond the necessary, this is called luxury, surplus. And they are the things that take us out from the path to spirituality.

Student: Only exertion brings a person to adhesion with the Creator. What kind of exertion of effort is accepted by the Creator?

M. Laitman: Only the labor, only the exertion promotes us because only according to our labor do we develop vessels in which we can feel the Creator and understand the Creator.

Student: From where does a person take the strength for work?

M. Laitman: From where does a person take the strength to work? Of course, all the powers are in the hands of the Creator, but a person receives them from the Creator only to the extent that he comes closer and knows how to ask the Creator correctly, when he understands and he’s aware. There's nothing more to say, it's so obvious.

Reader: For the meantime, this is what I was able to prepare.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (06:44) You said that there is someone who moves us. On the other hand, there's also, who are we doing the action for? What is the difference in the intentions between these two discernments?

M. Laitman: Well, first of all, I have to detect that what motivates me is not my ego, the evil inclination, but that I am motivated by the Creator directly, not through the evil inclination indirectly. And where am I being drawn? Accordingly, to my ego, to pacify it, to satisfy it, or to the Creator, to please Him? That's basically what I have in front of me. Things are simple. We just need to constantly pay, give them more and more pinpointed answers, and as accurate as possible, as accurate as possible in the mind and in the heart.

Student: But it turns out, from what he says here, that the righteous long for a place to work.

M. Laitman: Yes, I yearn for a place of work, because if the Creator doesn't give me a place for spiritual work, then I'm idle. I feel like my life is just a life of a primitive beast, only to satisfy myself and argue with beasts like me. And that's my whole life, satisfying it, and that's the end of it. Meaning food, sex, family, money, power, knowledge - that's where I am. But if I want to bring my life to a different level, a more meaningful one, then I want to come to a state where I basically want to find the Creator. Without finding Him, I won't know how to bring Him contentment. And this is why I look for Him. Previously, I was looking for Him because I was curious in all kinds of states, like everyone else, or I wanted to manage my life better to be more successful. So, of course, I need the upper force to be rich, to be powerful, but afterwards, as I study the wisdom of Kabbalah, I changed my way, my purpose, and now I want to get closer to the Creator in order to understand how to bring Him contentment, what He wants from me, how I can direct myself toward Him more correctly, how I can know that I am advancing or not, so I don't veer off from the path and make mistakes. That's the way it is.

Question (Zafron 2): (10:26) How can we correctly relate the corporeal life to the spiritual work?

M. Laitman: It is written, make your work temporary and your spiritual work permanent. That's basically what we need. So, the most important thing for me during the day will be those times and hours and situations where I'm connected through the group to the Creator, and in the rest of the time, I feel that I'm forced to do - to work in my job, I have my family to care for, because that's how the Creator arranged my life. And if I do those things as much as I can, but in a way that I try, in a good way, then both enter correction. That's it. No more questions? Okay, let's continue for now.

Reading: (11:59) continuing Shamati #19. What Is “The Creator Hates the Bodies,” in the Work?

It follows that if the Creator gives room for work, these righteous are very happy. This is why they said, “first to the count of iniquities.” For them it is joyous to now have a place to work, meaning that now they have become needy of the Creator and can now come into close contact with the Creator, since one can come to the King’s palace only for some purpose.

M. Laitman: We see how opposite it is, what happens to a person who begins the work, that if he feels pressure, if he feels bad, he cries. Whereas a Kabbalist, who is under pressure and feels bad, is happy, because he's got a case, he's got a reason to turn to the Creator, and the reason that the Creator must have awakened in him. So when a person feels that he's under pressure, he already understands that it's an invitation from above, to come into contact with the Creator. It's an invitation from the Creator. Look at how important it is. Normally, we don't pay attention to it. So let's try, in the group, through the influence of the friends and one another, to change in such a way that even if you feel the slightest trouble, you immediately detect that it came to you from the Creator, as an invitation to approach Him. And to what extent do we need to detect it? It is written that if a person wants to take out of his pocket, say, one coin, but he puts his hand in his pocket and takes out two coins, this is called a punishment. A punishment  doesn't mean it goes in a bad way but if it's not exactly according to what a person wants, that's called a punishment. And therefore, it turns out that that's how we need to measure ourselves and see how the Creator governs us, both from the good side and from the bad side. When there is bad Hassadim, mercies and good mercies, we'll always discover how He pulls us towards Him.

Question (Bulgaria 1): (15:14) You said that the state of routine, of habit, is the worst state. What is that state? How do we discover that we are in it?

M. Laitman: That depends on the general preparation of the group. A state of habit, of routine, is not the worst state. Baal HaSulam too writes that sit and do nothing is better. That if a person doesn't quite know how to advance, it's better if he does nothing. Because if he does something, he will certainly do it with his ego. So there are many questions here, many things that you can't clarify them with words. You can write a thousand books, it won't help. Rather, we need, through the work, because there’s not so wise as the experienced, so we need to build such internal systems, and that's how we advance more and more. You can't explain to a child what he needs to do five years from now. But during the five years, he advances to a state where he understands and knows. And we are the same. So let's try to do what pertains to us, to our situation, and we'll advance accordingly.

Question (Qazaqstan): (17:01) When complicated situations occur, even when we ask, we automatically ask to pacify our situation. So how should we act correctly in such a situation so that we will have the right intention?

M. Laitman: It depends on your preparation. You can't say, now I want to relate to what is happening to me correctly. From where will you get the right way? It all depends on how much you prepared yourself. So the most right way, we see what Kabbalists say, go into the Ten, try to subjugate yourself, submit yourself before the friends, connect to them, and then accordingly, you will establish, you will calibrate yourself where can be your right place. Normally, your correct place is when you annul before all the friends. This is your correct state as of now. And you can always do that. The friends change, you change, but where is your correct state? In positioning yourself in this way.

Question (Almaty 1): (19:04) If the Creator hates honor, lust in their pure form, what is the technique to use them for bestowal?

M. Laitman: All the phenomena that you are telling me are cases, incidents of our ego. So we don't work against one, or another, or another. We’re not psychologists. We don't divide a person into a thousand anxieties, fears, a thousand successes, apparent successes, and other phenomena. This will not help us. We are talking about their source, their origin, which is all man's ego. And therefore, we need to relate to it. So don't pay attention to anything. You don't care about anything. Rather, the wisdom of Kabbalah takes nature's foundations, and it says how we should arrange them. We need to come to a state where our will to receive is directed entirely to please the Creator through the Ten. If I direct myself in this way, it is a sign that I have arranged my life correctly. That's it. The work is relatively simple, if we understand how to organize it.

Question (Revadim): (20:54) You said that sit and do nothing is better, but if a person doesn't make mistakes, he doesn't learn from them. So what does it mean, sit and do nothing is better?

M. Laitman: This is what Kabbalists tell us, that if you don't know what to do, in case you do not know what to do, in case you are confused, don't do anything. That's it. Why? Because at least from this moment on, you're not making any mistakes, you're not doing any transgression. If you're sure you know what to do, you checked your preparation in the group, or towards something, then go ahead and do it. That's the meaning of sit and do nothing, better.

Question (PT 19): (21:57) What does it mean that he says, now they become needy of the Creator, and can come to close contact with the Creator, because one can come to the King's palace only for a purpose, for a need. He talks about labor, true labor, or exertion. What is true labor? What is that?

M. Laitman: I don't know. Labor is all against our will to receive, which yearns for rest. Now, rest doesn't mean I'm lying down and doing nothing. Rest can be when I run, when I do some very hard physical work. That too can be rest. Labor means against my will to receive. If my will to receive wants me to run, I feel good when I run. So, that's not regarded as being in labor. It's regarded as being in rest.

Student: But he says, if you labor, then you found - believe it. If you didn't labor and you found - do not believe it. So, what does it mean?

M. Laitman: It means you should exert against your ego. That's the meaning of exertion, of labor.

Student: So, what is exertion in the Ten? How do we do that?

M. Laitman: When everyone yearns for connection.

Student: So, that's called exertion? Labor?

M. Laitman: Yes, of course.

Student: So, what's my labor there? What's my labor, my exertion in the Ten, if you say everyone wants to have exertion?

M. Laitman: Ask yourself. How can I know?

Student: But specifically, for each and every one in the Ten, what is exertion?

M. Laitman: When you yearn to reach the center of the Ten and reach connection with everyone. And by this, you yearn to awaken everyone else to do the same.

Student: So, shouldn't we apply the force of overcoming in the Ten?

M. Laitman: Well, of course. We always have to activate this force of overcoming.

Question (Petah Tikva 31): (24:13) What develops in us the sensitivity to the fact that everything comes from the Creator in order to advance us?

M. Laitman: What develops our sensitivity is to turn to the Creator every step of the way.

Question (Ekaterinburg): (24:35) How is the request from the Creator different from a request from the friends? Can we relate to the Ten as to the Creator?

M. Laitman: I'm sorry, I didn't hear well.

Student: How is a request from the Creator different from a request from the friends?

M. Laitman: Look, I turn to the friends only to get an advice, support, but not a solution. That's the difference. My friends, a friend, Haver, comes from the word Hibur, connection. That's why I turn to them, in order to find the right connection between us, and in some new way, in some new form, to reveal the upper providence, the upper force, the Creator. And that's why friends are the vessel in which I discover the Creator.

Question (MAK, Petah Tikva Center): (26:01) I heard that every little trouble is an invitation from the Creator to come closer to Him. So what is the right response on our side to such an invitation? What is the Creator expecting from us?

M. Laitman: What does the Creator expect? That we will reach Him. And this happens according to the equivalence of form.

Student: So how should we respond to any trouble that the Creator sends us?

M. Laitman: He doesn't send us troubles. He gives us opportunities to approach Him. He doesn't give us trouble. Where did you see troubles? I don't see any troubles. I see that the Creator is awakening us, really - so awakening us to get closer to Him, to approach Him. In other words, you're looking at what is happening incorrectly. When I want to bring a little child to me, I tell him, look what is happening there. So he, because he's afraid, he comes to me. Otherwise I can't catch him, he runs away, he slips between my fingers, right? The same goes for the Creator. He frightens us so that we will approach Him. Otherwise, it's impossible. We are so…we're like bad little kids with our will to receive, we’re running in every direction, so that we cannot be gathered to Him unless by frightening us.

Question (Moscow): (28:03) It says, I sat in the house of the Lord for all of the days of my life. How can we always be in fear above the thoughts of the body? How can we always be in fear above the thoughts of the body, spiritual fear?

M. Laitman: For the fear to direct you to the Creator, it needs to be a complicated fear already, directed correctly, and therefore, we need to build such a thing. Just any fear, just fear just like that, will not direct you to the Creator. You need fear, spiritual fear, that the Creator is One, unique and unified, and He is good and does good, and you feel fear not because you're close to Him, but because you've moved away from Him. And then you need this fear in order to get closer, and that fear comes to you from Him. So how do you realize the fear correctly? You have a group. If you connect all those things together, then you see that the Creator is immediately arranging for you in the purportedly bad state, a good state.

Question (Woman Internet): (29:44) What is the difference between spiritual work and the reward?

M. Laitman: I think if it is spiritual work, it is in itself the reward. I don't need anything else besides having an advancing disposition toward the Creator and to remain in that way indefinitely, forever. I don't want it to change. I'm not looking for the adhesion itself, but to have the disposition, the inclination toward it. By this, I bring contentment to the Creator, as well as to myself. We see it in our own lives, although it's not as it is in spirituality. The minute people want, long for each other, then there is much more feeling between them and much more impressions than when they make contact, because then they have no impressions, no excitement. This is why we need to, nevertheless, yearn for work and not for the reward. Women understand me better than men.

Question (Woman Internet): (31:17) How can it be that the Creator hates the bodies which He Himself created?

M. Laitman: The Creator created the will to receive. It is just a will to receive, as we learn. But to bring the will to receive, to sympathy with Him, to be identical to Him, He had to add to the will to receive the intention from an order to receive to in order to bestow. That intention to receive or to bestow is basically two forms of creation. And we need to come to a state where we detect what is in order to receive and what is in order to bestow. In order to build in us a system of correct scrutiny, for this we have the whole system of the worlds, the five worlds with the five Partzufim in each world, with five Sefirot in each Partzuf. And all in all, 125 degrees from our lowest, worst state to the state of the Creator, the highest state. And as we rise on the ladder of these degrees, we understand better and better and detect our intentions, thoughts, desires, or in short,  states toward the Creator, until we learn from it how we can, how we can be close to Him.

Reader: Yes, we are reading, This the meaning of the verse.

Reading: (33:35) continuing Shamati #19. What Is “The Creator Hates the Bodies,” in the Work?

This is the meaning of the verse, “And you shall take for you.” It specifies “for you,” since everything is in the hands of heaven but the fear of heaven. In other words, the Creator can give abundance of light because He has it. But the darkness, the place of lack, this is not in His domain.

Since there is a rule that there is fear of heaven only from a place of lack, and a place of lack is called “the will to receive,” it means that only then is there a place for labor. In what? In that it resists.

The body comes and asks, “What is the work?” and one has nothing to answer to its question. Then one must assume the burden of the kingdom of heaven above reason as an ox to the burden and as a donkey to the load without any arguments. Rather, He said and His will was done. This is called “for you,” meaning this work belongs precisely to you, and not to Me, meaning the work that your will to receive requires.

Question (Turkiye 3): (35:14) How can we hasten our study as a Ten, so that we can feel His Providence?

M. Laitman: I didn't catch it.

Student: How can we hasten our study as a Ten, so that we can feel His Providence?

M. Laitman: It's only by delving deeper and deeper into what Kabbalists recommend we do. To learn the PTICHA, the Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah a bit more, since there are systems that will help us understand technical discernments. And also later, according to the relationships between us, as much as we'll be able to detect the discernments that have to exist between us, emotional discernments, discernments of connection and separation, which is the main work we have to do. Where between the friends, the way we try to arrange the correct actions and deeds, accordingly, we'll be able to care about the actions we need to carry out, and from these actions to feel the Creator. If I will not move with my actions among the friends together, then how will we establish Him? As it’s written, you have made me. We make the Creator. We need to connect between us to such an extent, more and more, tighter and tighter, so we will begin to understand what does it mean, the Creator? The Creator is like a Lego set, where from our desires, according to repulsion, we feel for one another, but above that, we wish to be connected to one another. Then together, these two states, separation and connection, separation and closeness, as much as we work with it, the more we work with it, we'll begin to see, to discover who’s the Creator that we are making from our actions? We create Him. We build Him. We form Him. But if we don't have a Ten, if we don't have the ability to build Him in this way, we have no way, there's no chance and no hope of ever discovering Him. There's nothing to discover if you're not building. If you're not making His image out of your blocks, how will you discover Him? You understand that we are next to the state from which we can build the Creator, and we're not building Him. We are not building Him.

Question (Petah Tikva Center): (38:52) What is the Creator? Is that the force that we... How does it work in our connection?

M. Laitman: When we assemble Him, we begin to see that our desires, they make something common, and it becomes alive.

Student: Is that the yearning or the completion of the connection between us?

M. Laitman: It's a complementary action between us. Tell me something. You're taking particles from nature. Atoms, various atoms that have nothing, there's nothing in them, plus, minus. When you assemble them, then how from that assembly do you get suddenly something that's alive and is developing, which begins to be organic. Where the atoms begin to connect between them to such a degree that they become molecules, something living. What does it mean, living? It has the foundation of life, the secret of life, the DNA, all those things. We don't understand what's happening there, but we understand that all the foundations and all the secrets of creation are there. Where is it coming from? Those dead particles, protons, neutrons, electrons, muons, about 400 particles like that, how they, these particles, suddenly in the connections they make, they bring themselves to a state where in them there begins to appear a force called life. We don't understand that, we don't get it. We only see that they are becoming, instead of simply bricks, building blocks that you can use to build a house, like children used to build a house, they themselves build it. We awaken in them the force of the Creator, the force of creation, and they begin to connect between them. We simply give them the conditions, it's like we give the Creator conditions for revealing Himself, but they begin to build themselves. And then we see that there is an act of creation here before us, the act of genesis, as we call it. So our work is not to get inside and start to pick around what the Creator is doing, but rather place the conditions in which the act…
