Baal HaSulam. Shamati, 210. “A Slightly Flaw in You.”

Reader: Shalom, we're reading from Baal HaSulam's article Shamati 210,” A Slightly Flaw in You.” The study material is on Sviva Tova and our Arvut website. You can ask questions live or through our website. Rav, please.

M. Laitman: (0:21) This is a short article, and very beautiful on how we need to treat a woman.

Reading Article: (0:35) Shamati 210, “A Slightly Flaw in You.” It is written in the Talmud: “He who said to her, to his wife, ‘Until you see a sightly flaw in you.’ Rabbi Ishmael, son of Rabbi Yosi, said that the Creator says that she cannot adhere to him until you see a sightly flaw in you” (Nedarim 66b). The first interpretation of the Tosfot means that she is forbidden to enjoy until she can find a sightly thing.

This means that if one can say that he, too, has nice things with which he helped the Creator, so they can adhere to one another, so why has He not helped another? This must be since there are things in him, that he has good faith or good qualities, since he has a good heart, that he can pray.

This is the meaning of his commentary: “He said to them, ‘Perhaps like a becoming woman?’” This means that there is an external mind, better than all his contemporaries. Or “Perhaps her hair is pretty?” This means that he is as meticulous with himself as a hairsbreadth. Or “Perhaps her eyes are pretty?” This means that he has more grace of holiness than all of his contemporaries. Or “Perhaps his ears are handsome?” This means that he cannot hear any slander.

M. Laitman: (02:41) Yes, we can see that we talk about the desire of a man as much as he acknowledges his own desire he has a flaw, or he doesn't have a flaw, and then he can say that her hair, she has beautiful hair, beautiful eyes, beautiful ears, and it's all talking about the senses of a human that can appreciate what they have in order to bestow in other senses. And through this, he needs to get to it, and sightly falling in her, in you, he can see how the will to receive within him is already corrected and that rises him towards the Creator. Therefore, we need to check ourselves and to see that in the hearing, in the eyesight, in our five senses, can we say that we have beautiful senses, and they bring upon us only our actions, a beautiful summary of our actions. A person can say that he has a beautiful wife within his body, and therefore, he has great hope to reach the final correction. Let's read it again.

Re-reading Article: (05:21) Shamati 210, “A Slightly Flaw in You.” It is written in the Talmud: “He who said to her, to his wife, ‘Until you see a sightly flaw in you.’ Rabbi Ishmael, son of Rabbi Yosi, said that the Creator says that she cannot adhere to him until you see a sightly flaw in you” (Nedarim 66b).

M. Laitman: (07:22) It means that he has a pretty woman that in all his senses he can praise the Creator more and more by that that he gives him contentment and he does everything that the Creator expects of him.

Question (Turkiye 2): (07:48) Dear Rav, how can one find fault with oneself in one's inner or physical life? And how can one overcome this condition?

M. Laitman: A person by himself cannot do that. We can't even think about it. He can reveal his flaws within him only when he is in the society where the friends are searching each and every one within himself, inside himself, what he needs to correct in order to come near to the others, and to reveal the Creator through the connection between us.

Question (Tbilisi): (08:50) The question. Thanks to the lessons you give, I am in a constant state of gratitude towards the Creator. I constantly look for ways to thank Him, so I started thanking Him for Baal HaSulam, for Rabash, for you. And then this understanding came that it's also the Creator, There's None Else Besides Him, through Baal HaSulam, through Rabash. That's what gives this pleasure but to see the giver behind all this, I see the Creator, and I thank Him for that. Is that receiving in order to bestow that? I see that it's from Him?

M. Laitman: Yes, that's how it should be.

Student: And I need to make a Masach, a barrier here? And to go above reason, in other words?

M. Laitman: Yes. Yes, yes.

Student: Can you add a few words about this, Rav?

M. Laitman: Well, we will add some more soon. I can't leave people just hanging there.

Question (Women PT33): (10:27) We read an article before that, and it's not mind or not heart. I was not successful. There are things here that even in translation to Russian, are hidden. I wanted to ask you, please, what is a sightly flaw?

M Laitman: A beautiful flaw is everything that is not usual and is beautiful. It's beautiful. Just like we like in our kids. That's it.

Question (Women Mark 51): (11:11) Dear Rav, tell us please, the article speaks about the fact that we each have a beautiful flaw, a sightly flaw in us that we need to find within us?

M. Laitman: Maybe one, maybe a few. The sightly flaw is a corrected flaw, and this is a flaw that was a flaw, and it turns from our work to pretty, to good.

Question (Women Mark 41): (12:08) A question from the group. How to acquire good ears?

M. Laitman: This is a person who needs to make himself get used to ,and to listen to only that, that gets us closer to the Creator.

Student: Can we say that listening only to the articles, only to you, only to the friends of Bnei Baruch?

M. Laitman: Yes, that's the best thing.

Question (Women Moscow 5): (12:42) If it talks about spiritual beauty, can we say that these qualities through the tender means that I show my qualities, I acknowledge my sightly flaws in me? Or is it that these qualities are revealed and the Ten helps me to show them?

M. Laitman: Not until you will be in adhesion, complete adhesion with your Ten you'll still have flaws, deficiencies. And that will reflect on the others. And you will always need to watch over yourself so you can correct yourself with time.

Student: These deficiencies that you talk about, I see them through myself, through the Ten, or does the Ten show it to me through the Creator, how is it revealed in us?

M. Laitman: They are usually revealed in the connection with the friends, but the Creator is showing you of course.

Question (Women MAK 98): (14:17) If my desire is to fulfill another person and it comes out of the desire to do good to him, so when I check my attitude towards him and I see that I'm lacking the evil inclination that I'll be working above the hate, is it that correct?

M. Laitman: The flaw you already have from the beginning, your desire is one big flaw. So when you start to work on the connection with the friends, then we can start to see how much a person has flaws. But in the beginning, we all have the evil inclination in us.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): (15:13) Rav, how does the Creator correct our flaws and how do we become perfect?

M. Laitman: By that, that we are trying to connect between us, and we see how much we reject and hate each other and completely cannot accept each other, then we turn to the Creator and ask from Him for correction. And the Creator then comes down to us, turns to us, and helps us to change our perception to the friends. In this way, we are correcting our evil inclination.

Question (Women MAK): (16:18) Hello, dear beloved Rav. How is it correct to investigate and to see these desires that are in bestowal? How is it correct to understand this quality?

M. Laitman: This is only if you are in connection with your friends. With the friends, then you act in order to be as close as you can towards them and that's how you correct your ego.

Question (Women MAK 25): (17:02) Tell us please, in the article it depicts slightly flaws as if they are a great reward. For example, being as meticulous as a hair's breadth. So, the question is why is it called a flaw and not an award?

M. Laitman: We can see that there has been a flaw and now they are corrected.

Student: That means these flaws they show us that we will never be completely correct, that the ego will always show us something we could work on?

M. Laitman: It's not quite that it hasn't been. They can disappear and then new ones can be revealed.

Question (Women MAK 30): (17:59): Spirituality is the internal feeling of a person. How should we express these relations between us in the externality?

M. Laitman: To be part of the internal life in the group.

Student: So, in externality to express these internal relations between us.

M. Laitman: Yes, don't be shy and show it and reveal it in front of everyone.

Question (Women Ukraine 2): (18:39) And asking why is Baal HaSulam using here the word fair and not cleanliness? What is fair?

M. Laitman: Beauty called the cleanness of the thought. Help, support. Anything that the person opens his heart towards the friend.

Student: Can I continue? She writes that when you do an examination then according to this article you are more and more convinced each time that you are less than everyone suitable for this slightly and you are ashamed. So how to bring all this shame and flaws to the Creator?

M. Laitman: This is what we need to bring to the Creator and He will correct you. Do not be shy, come to Him, turn to Him and ask, and cry and demand that He will correct all the flaws.

Question (Women PT 25): (19:57) Rav, does everything in us we have potential to bestow with? Everything that is within us?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And what does it mean, does it mean to recognize where this thing is causing separation and to ask for it to be transitioned into bestowal with it?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Hadera 1): (20:24) We are broken parts, and each one has something that he shows that he needs to correct and a part that is already corrected. Can we say that the entire common desire can be corrected in the connection and only in such a way we can correct all the desires that I am connected with the corrected desire of the friends, and I connect to it and in such a way we build a whole complete thing.

M. Laitman: Just like that or we all together pray to the Creator to correct us.

Student: Rav, can I ask? What does the force of overcoming in a person depend on?

M. Laitman: As much as he wants to be straight with the Creator.

Question (Women Lithuania 5): (21:28) I've got a question I want to make it a bit clearer. The flaws are my uncorrected qualities that I've already gotten used to them. I got used to using them wrongly in the connection. My question is when I make an effort to hold Torah-Mitzvot, to do Torah Mitzvot, then the Creator is helping me to make sort of a transition towards these uncorrected qualities, these flaws, to make them good and to use them as good, yes?

M. Laitman: Yes, sure.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): (22:28) If one cannot see one’s own imperfection, what kind of a path should the Ten follow in order to recognize it?

M. Laitman: The Ten can give you a clue about that. We don't need to talk about it so openly but a little bit so that each and every one will give a small clue to the friend that he has this very bold quality. Negative bold quality and this is how they help each other.

Question (Women ITA): (23:31) The good art makes every defect seem as beautiful. So, does our good observation transform every apparent defect into beauty?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Everything depends on our heart.

M. Laitman: Yes. Only to correct the heart.

Question (ITA): (24:31) Dear Rav, is it our job to look for all the flaws? Can we make all the defects beautiful with correction of all the defects?

M. Laitman: Yes. We need to look for the flaws, for all the flaws and we need to correct all the flaws.

Question (Women Lithuanian 9): (25:15). Good day teacher, I want to ask, about these flaws; if in the Ten, the correct choice is when we take these flaws and talk about how each one sees that flaw, and then when each one of us says her opinion about the flaw we pass it on to the Creator and then we show this flaw, we've externalized it and then we send it to the Creator. Is this work correct?

M. Laitman: Yes, correct.

Question (Women MAK 51): (26:00) Dear Rav a question from my Ten. How is a sightly flaw different to a reward?

M. Laitman: In the correction.

Student: And the question is, something is very strong in us as not complete. Is that going to be a sightly flaw?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women MAK 113): (26:28) Tell us, please. Can it be that when a person loves, he sees the world as very beautiful, and he doesn't see the flaws in the friends and he only wants to bring himself to this beautiful world and to correct himself in order to be as his great friends?

M. Laitman: Yes, but he still needs to check himself and to see himself at the background of the group and to reveal all the flaws in him.

Student: Thank you very much, dear teacher. Health and great love to you.

Question (Tbilisi): (27:21) Dear Rav, I've asked about our great teachers, about me being grateful to the Creator for them and now I'm also in gratitude for the friends. My friends are also my teachers. I study through them; I correct my flaws through them. Can I raise my friends to such a level of greatness and thank the Creator for them in the same way as I thank the Creator for my teachers?

M. Laitman: Yes, of course, exactly like that.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): I'm not ashamed to turn to the Creator but when I'm turning to the friends, I hesitate because they see my flaws. So, what should I do in such a case? I cannot turn to the friends with an open heart. What should I do?

M. Laitman: We don't need to be ashamed of each other. We're gathered here to reveal the flaws in each and every one and to raise them to correction with the Creator and the Creator will correct them. Therefore, it is not important how much you see the flaw in her. It's really not important.

Question (Women Kyiv 7): (29:14) How do we compare ourselves in the Ten? Do we take ourselves as part of the whole Ten, and then we compare ourselves?

M. Laitman: No, we can't see the Ten in the right way. We only need to check our Ten and to aim it to the Creator.

Student: And if we had the desire, do we take and check if it's suitable for connection or is it in the way of the connection?

M. Laitman: Yes, we can reveal all those qualities in the Ten and then to ask from Him for correction.

Student: Can we take all the desires and connect it into one desire during the whole day and then raise it to the Ten?

M. Laitman: No, everyone has different desires, and it keeps changing during the day he needs to reveal all these desires, to connect them, to raise them, to turn to the Creator, and to ask for a correction and this is how each and every one in the group.

Student (Women MAK 67): (30:40) We've got a question from the Ten. The article is of two paragraphs and the second paragraph speaks only about the qualities. Is there a preference to these qualities that we need to develop these qualities in order to come closer to the Creator? Why just these qualities explained here?

M. Laitman: I don't quite see those differences. See, just continue. What is that everything is parts from the Talmud? It is based on parts from the Talmud. It is talking about the person, how he can correct his egoistic desires that he always needs to check himself how he looks at others, at his friends. Does he look at them in the right way, with a good will, in good eyes, bad eyes? This is how he should check himself.

Question (Women Almaty): (32:08) If the flaws are the desires to receive, and they become sightly when we have an intention to bestow, then that means that we only need to ask for the intention from the Creator?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: And if we are asking that I internally want to have this intention then I am already praying from inside, Rav?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Then if we all pray together and want this intention together then it could be that we wake up in the morning and we are already in the correct intention or is it gradually?

M. Laitman: It is gradual, it is a process, but You are already in it.

Question (Turkiye 7): Rav Shalom. I have two questions if I may. One of them is about seeing flaws inside the friends. It is too hard when you feel a friend deeply, when you feel a friend's desire, when you see what is behind the face of the friend. It is really hard to connect, it is really like you want to take to a rubbish bin and vomit everything inside that you see in others. How can a person overcome or get out of his skin? Because you see everything inside the friend and on top of it you have to come and hug that person.

M. Laitman: Yes, that is exactly right. The opposite. When you see the flaws in others then for sure you have those flaws within you. A hundred percent, therefore, there is no problem at all, you’re asking for the flaws you see in the friends just like it is your flaws, and if you were clean you would never see those flaws in them. And therefore, you turn to the Creator and ask for corrections for the flaws you see in the friends. Because it is for sure the flaws in you. And that is how you continue.

Student: I feel like this is also shame because it’s like I am describing myself actually by what I see.

M. Laitman: So what? But you are still correcting. Who is the hero? The one that reveals all his flaws from here until the final correction and not the one that does not reveal anything. He is not clean, he is so dirty that he can't even see behind, beyond his dirt. So thick he can't even see himself.

Student: I also want to ask one more question Rav, about women. Can we say that for a Kabbalist his woman is like his body, his desire, that he needs to work on that he needs to direct light from the Creator to the vessel of his woman? And through his woman he will correct himself, his desires, and his qualities.

M. Laitman: Yes, but it's not necessarily that the woman should know about it; if a woman doesn't want, she does not enter those scrutinies, yes? But the man, yes.

Student: So also, you talked about Rav, the eyes of the Shechina, and the body of the Shechina. I don't know, maybe two weeks ago we talked about it. And you said that the eyes of the Shechina are the relation of your woman towards you. And because of this, we select according to the eyes of the Shechina how that a woman is treating you or relating to you also at the beginning of this lesson, you just said that it's a great help towards the Great Gmar Tikkun. What is the help of the woman for a man or for a person who wants to be a Talmud disciple? What is the help, and support of this woman; how can we see this towards the Gmar Tikkun?

M. Laitman: Well, I will say a few words, but we will have to talk about it more. A woman can show a man where he is wrong, where he acts as an egoist, where he needs to correct himself and if a man listens to her, he has a good chance to reach correction quickly.

Question (Women MAK 26): (38:07) I have a question. Is not listening or hearing slander is not to justify?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (MAK 24): (38:32) You answered the friend from Turkey, that when you look out of a clean heart, then you do not see flaws in the friend. What helps us more than anything else to reach this clean heart? How to acquire that?

M. Laitman: Through the love of friends, we purify our hearts and open it toward others.

Question (Women Piter): (39:10) If I see a flaw in the friend that means that this flaw is in me or is it a little bit different within me? What is the difference?

M. Laitman: What’s the difference as long as we need to correct ourselves.

Student: Can I ask another question about the female?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: It is said that the men are first to turn to the Creator. What did you mean by that? That means that the woman's deficiency should always go through the men?

M. Laitman: Yes, the main thing is that the man will raise his prayer to the Creator.

Student: The connection with the Creator should be to everyone for women and men?

M. Laitman: Well, we will scrutinize this one, meanwhile, ask and pray.

Question (Women Turkiye 8): (40:27) We have two questions. How are my friends in the Ten, a mirror through which the Creator shows me the flaws hidden within me?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Is my work to look carefully through this mirror?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women Brazil): (41:10) Is it correct that the way to correct our flaws is in the connection with the environment and through our feelings?

M. Laitman: Yes, yes.

Question (Women Azerbaijan): (41:42) A question from a friend. What is a flaw? What is it coming to action?

M. Laitman: Ego.

Student: If, for example, with a friend we see a flaw, does it mean that we see her ego or my own ego?

M. Laitman: You see her ego and at the same time you see yours and you can check yourself if you're looking at her in an egoistic way.

Question (Women German): (42:25) A question from the Ten. When we started building a Ten's diary, then it was like a means for us to find our desires and correct them. What to do when not all the friends in the Ten want to use this mean? Can we continue using it? Only to those who want to advance in the path.

M. Laitman: Continue, yes.

Question (Women Eng 1): (43:00) Rav, it's a nice concept to air all these flaws together. Is there also a need to do it in a basic way?

M. Laitman: No. Because we are telling them who they are, and this is not what we want to do.

Question (Novosibirsk): (43:30) You said that if I see flaws it's definitely in me. The other advice was?

M. Laitman: Not to criticize the friend.

Question: How not to become the correctors of the world?

M. Laitman: No. You try.

Question (Women Turkiye 7): (43:59) We have two questions. Sometimes I feel so righteous that I can't hear the friends. My concern is that with this feeling of being righteous, I might hurt the friend. What should I do in such a state?

M. Laitman: Before you connect to a friend, you need to do this exercise where you’re putting yourself down and then you raise the friend and then you connect to her. Always approach the friend from below upwards.

Student: Can we ask another question? Does the help of the Creator is to cover the flaws that I see with love?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Question (Women MAK 45): (45:32) Tell us, please. I see flaws within me and within the friends and I love the friends very much, but these flaws are in my way to see them as great. What should I do?

M. Laitman: You need to work on those flaws that are on you that you have these flaws and you're working on it.

Question (Women Lithuania 5): (46:18) Hello again, thank you for letting us ask again. It's a question from Lithuanian women. Can the shell, Klipot, awaken us or doed it only swallow the light?

M. Laitman: Sometimes it can shine but in different circumstances.

Student: Second question. There is a very strong flaw within women which is concern. Concern for the family, for the relatives. When it's too much it becomes controlling and not concern and sometimes it annoys the men very much and it stops their development. When we find it within ourselves should we talk about it somehow? How to avoid it? Or send everything to the Creator so that he will correct us and will give us this opportunity to use this quality in the correct place.

M. Laitman: Send it to the Creator.

Question (Women H 13): (47:49) Good afternoon, dear Rav, hello everyone. I wanted to ask can you describe in words how would the world look when the end of correction the general end of correction would come and when would it come and what does that depend?

M. Laitman: I cannot talk about it. I talk about it all the time. Every opportunity I have you need to listen to all my speeches, all my lessons and then you will receive the knowledge from there.

Student: Dear Rav, can I ask?

M. Laitman: What?

Student: I would like to ask, firstly hello to you. I would like to ask why every request I make the majority of them are at night and they always come with crying. I don't know why it happens to me. It's simply uncontrollable. Thank you.

M. Laitman: This is because you are an egoist, too much of an egoist.

Question (Woman Latin): (49:08) In order for the flaws to become sightly, beautiful it goes through a process of recognition of making an effort to see in the other what's in me and also in the request to the Creator for him to change us. Is it okay to have feelings of shame, guilt, and self-repulsion? Is it a correct process? So to what emotion should we come in order to completely cleanse all these flaws?

M. Laitman: Yes. We will look into those things slowly, slowly.

Question (Women Kyiv): (50:24) Thank you. I wanted to ask when I see a flaw within the friend, I don't straight away tell her that she has a flaw but I saw an example of how I think that I should behave and at some point, I feel that I am becoming higher than her and I feel that I am correct and she is not. So, how to even make a discernment here in relation to the friends? When do I have the privilege to show an example?

M. Laitman: You are the example. You can always show the correct example.

Student: But the intention, what should it be? Because I have a pleasure by showing her the example.

Student: It doesn't matter. Meanwhile, it can be like that.

Question (Women MAK 36): (51:26) I am a bit confused. Tell us, please. There is a feeling that within everyone the flaw is one, but the points of the heart are different. So this change gives different flaws; is it correct to think like that?

M. Laitman: No, no. Don't look at it this way. The flaw gives you happiness, gives you joy.

Student: No, I don't mean joy. I mean that in each one there is the same flaw but the point of the heart is different and this change gives a different flavor to the flaws. But in essence, it's all one flaw.

M. Laitman: Yes, yes you can think like that.

Student: Why is beauty sorry, the translator did not understand.

M. Laitman: There is a pretty flaw and there is a not pretty flaw.

Student: But beautiful cannot be a flaw.

M. Laitman: The flaw can be beautiful.

Question (Women German): (52:34) What is the meaning of this comparison where it says those who interpret that perhaps becoming a woman that she has an external mind better than all his contemporaries? What does it mean better than all his contemporaries?

M. Laitman: Good, as simple as that. Just better than everyone else.

Question (Women Lithuania 9): I would like to ask in the morning lesson you said that the woman's desire goes deep, and the man's desire goes upwards. So, how does this connection happen? How to fill this point in the Ten?

M. Laitman: This is not your work. This, the Creator will do. Your work is to see the flaws in you and to pray for their corrections.

Question (Women PT 39): I don't think it's in continuation to the topic, but you answered the friend who said that she's asking every night to the friend, and she also said she's also crying. You said that she's also too big of an egoist. I wanted to ask what to do in a state where I'm such an egoist as well.

M. Laitman: We are not allowed to be on one hand, cry, cry, cry. What for? Where are the rest of the emotions, the thoughts? We also need to work to make sure that the flaws make sure that we are trying to come near to be even in balance and not to cry without stopping. This is not normal.

Student: (55:19) flaws are flaws in the relationship between us?

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: Besides that, all the flaws that I have in my everyday life, in my relationship with the wife, with the kids, what is it? Is it also a flaw?

M. Laitman: Sure, yes.

Student: And we also need to correct it?

M. Laitman: In each and everything that a person needs to correct it's outside of him. This is how he treats the Creator.

Student: But it's not related to the work in the Ten. I'm trying to discern between the flaw which is between us in the Ten and between a flaw which is between me and the world. It's not the same.

M. Laitman: Yes.

Student: So, how do we correct it? With the world?

M. Laitman: Yes. We only correct what is between us. At the moment, we are not reaching this type of correction that we correct the whole world.

Question (Women Turkish 8): (56:31) The fact that we cannot annul ourselves is the biggest flaw, and can we do repentance to the Creator even though we rebel against Him in our hearts?

M. Laitman: Yes. Yes.

Question (English 1): (57:08) If we are aimed towards connection.

M. Laitman: Repeat, please.

Student: Can we say that there are merits according to the ego that becomes a slightly flaw if we are aimed towards connection? Is that right?

M. Laitman: Yes of course.

Question (Women Moscow 6): (57:58) Is it enough to just ask the Creator to correct the flaws? What else is required of us to come to the correction?

M. Laitman: Only to ask. Only to ask for the complete correction.

Question (Women Ukraine 2): (58:24) Dear Rav, there is such an incident where you ask for the friends, and you feel that you are now helping him. There is also an incident where you want to help and ask, but the person cannot receive this help. And you feel as if the prayer is not going through. Is there any flaws that a person can receive this help?

M. Laitman: If you open your heart then most likely he will open his heart.

Student: So. it depends on me, yes?

M. Laitman: Yes. He is the bestower, the giver. You have to be absolute without having anything in return; that his actions will be correct.

Question (Turkiye 7): (59:30) Sometimes the ego hides and says, I don't have this flaw. In order not to see in him the flaws. In that case, how should a person approach his ego in order to face his flaws?

M. Laitman: That's a very beautiful question, and we will start with this one in the next lesson.

Reader: Thank you very much to Rav, and thank you very much to the friends. Two announcements at the end.
